TXT ft. Anitta "Back for More" MV initial thoughts

It's here! It's here!! It's finally here!!!

The MV for "Back for More" is out and it looks sooooo good!! 😩

The overall styling/creative direction works really well. Absolutely loved how they played with the lights and shadows for this MV -- still giving tinges of something... forbidden? idk but the feeling of temptation still kinda lingers in this track, imo

AND THE WHISTLING IS STILL PRESENT OMFG I'VE JUST REALIZED WE HAVE WHISTLING AGAIN IN THIS TRACK TOO!!! WHAT UNIVERSE/TIMELINE ARE WE IN FOR THIS MV/ALBUM?????

We have our boys looking expensive in their suits. Love how they introduced softer, more feminine elements as well (cuts, fabric/texture, shapes, the shimmer etc) as it works to both contrast and highlight different points of their choreography. TXT always ready to serve ugh love them and their entire creative and performance team sm

On the topic of choreography, we were robbed of more Anitta and TXT dance interactions during the VMAs stage!! ☹️ AND WE WERE ROBBED OF MORE CENTER SOOBIN MOMENTS 😭 but of course, i understand that it's hard to have a "center" when there are six of them (including Anitta) on stage and this might be the one and only time they can perform live together so they made adjustments to their blocking

THE DANCE BREAK THOUGH??? IMMACULATE. LOVED IT. lowkey obsessed with the choreo where they do some miming actions of some sort to the instrumentals (idk how to describe it) -- scratches my brain just right whenever i see it all unfold in front of me 💆‍♀️ it's a shame that the camerawork during their live stage wasn't able to capture all that :(

And Yeonjun's scene at the end??? his little smile might have just ended me like what is he so cute for!!!!! I thought he'd go for a sexy little smirk or smth but it turns out a cute smile was even deadlier???!!! and i'm not even a moawajjunie so prayers for all the moawajjunies out there (and the bamtoris and the ningdungies and the solomons and ofc my fellow soobrangans and OT5ers out there)

the overall vibe and execution of this track was well done -- kinda like a dark disco approach that works really well coming from tnc: temptation. are we still being tempted by the devil even after saying farewell to neverland? are they now the devil?? who knows!! in any case, definitely staying seated for all that tnc: freefall will offer us 🫡

TXT's The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION will be the first instalment of a new series focusing on the theme of youth facing temptation. The January 27th release date was already foreshadowed back in the Japanese MV of Good Boy Gone Bad, where 1:27 appeared on the phone screen of the girl at the beginning of the video.

In the latest teaser the concept was introduced with the Thursday's Child logo getting lost in a psychedelic fantasy of swirling greens and pinks. A cryptic message can be heard in the background, and once reversed, the voice says: "It's so sweet but I should find my name".

The message implies that the concept will focus on the boys facing a sweet temptation that they will have to overcome in order to find their name. As we know from The Star Seekers, the name is something directly connected to one's true purpose, identity and inner power.

Finding your True Name allows you to begin your path towards self-realisation and by the end of minisode 2, Thursday's Child has Far to Go foreshadowed that they were on their way towards that destination.

With The Name Chapter: TEMPTATION, however, things change because even if Thursday's Child wants to move forward and grow from the mistakes of the past, the whisper of the Devil holds him back. In the concept trailer we saw that this devilish voice belonged to a creature with odd eyes, and in the behind the scenes, Huening Kai confirmed it was none other than the odd-eyed cat, whose eyes were modified in post-production possibly to add a new layer of trickery to this already unsettling character.

In The Name Chapter, this odd-eyed devil tempts Thursday's Child to leave the path of growth and join him in the magical world of their imagination where they can be forever young.

Like in the trailer, the album description references Peter Pan to get the point across. The Devil is like Peter taking the Lost Boys to Neverland and TXT are like Wendy and the Darling Children getting lured in by this entity who teaches them to fly. "Too tempting to ignore", the boys hold the devil's hand as they stray from the right path and start defying gravity. Interestingly enough, the reference to them "defying gravity" might also be a callback to Defying Gravity, which is a song from the musical Wicked, the prequel to The Wizard of Oz. That is a story that has already a lot in common with TXT's concept, but in this specific case, Defying Gravity is even more fitting because that song marks the moment Elphaba actually turns wicked.

Since the goal of the odd-eyed cat/devil is to make them "leave tomorrow behind" and forget about all the responsibilities and worries that they have, TXT will have to "Remember their Name" in order to return on the right path.

GUYS THE TRAILER???? (warning: me yapping under the cut)

ok so, ever since the chasing that feeling ive gtten the hint that little prince is gonna be invlovled w the next comecack SOMEHOW. And i was right!!! so here, in the trailer it portays txt as the 5 little princes, and the fox i think was supposed a reference to their dreams, or like the little princes childhood and the magic in that childhood. Now we know that in txt's plot line it has alot to do with growing up, and in temptation they want to reject their responsibilities and and chasing that feeling it shows that they have come back down to earth and they accepted the responsibilities and adulthood requires. And in this concept vid, it looks like yeonjun is working a part time job instead of stealing money like in loser lover, and the fox now is shown to be inside a habitat of sorts. behind a glass, like how childhood memories and freedom is stores in our memories. So when they retrive back that fox, i think its supposed to be saying that just because their adults, doesn't mean they can't revisit those memories. Now at the end, the fox (or smth idrk) says that he'll never forget their names, and i think thats supposed to be interpreted as saying that you will always have the memories, and that they arent gone from you forever. In the little prince, theres a line that says "all grown-ups were once children, but only a few remember it"

i find it so disingenuous that some people act like transmasculine people can't relate to transfem people.

transmasculine people, GNC cis women and butches, for *years*, have been writing about how they are seen as predatory in the women's restrooms because they 'look like men' or 'don't look woman enough' to be in there. i personally have experienced dirty looks and weird stares in the women's restroom as an openly butch person AFAB.

there are countless videos of cis women being removed from women's restrooms because they don't look 'woman enough' to be in there to take a leak. a video of a cis lesbian actually went viral for this.

there's a song by tribe 8, a lesbian queercore band, titled 'wrong bathroom' about these women not looking 'woman enough' to be able to use the women's restroom.

s. bear bergman has an essay titled 'tranny bladder', in hir book, 'butch is a noun', about how ze has been forced to be able to hold it instead of choosing to use the women's restroom because of how ze has been harassed in the women's restroom in the past over not looking quite 'woman enough', same for the men's restroom.

leslie feinberg wrote in hir book 'stone butch blues' about how the main character, jess, (butch) and her friend, ruth, (a trans woman), would declare that 'the world is our restroom' because of how they would rather use it on the side of the road than continue to be harassed in public restrooms about their presentations, assumed to be predatory.

like, do people just think that transmasculine people are not seen as predatory at all?

trans women are hypervisible and that definitely leads to them being labeled as predatory in a much more visible manner, but just because you don't see it, just because it may not be reported on as much or go viral, does not mean that transmasculine people aren't seen as predatory, and the idea that we can't be seen as predatory or that we have some sort of special privilege that means we're somehow not seen as predatory by society is, frankly, dangerous, especially for younger transmasculine people, who are going to experience a pretty rude awakening in the real world when they get questioned and harassed or even removed for not looking 'female enough' to use the women's restroom.

Neuvillette refers to Venti as "The God of Breeze and Hope" (his voicelines about the Archons.) Both are odd: "breeze" instead of "wind" (but the term is under the umbrella of things referring to the wind) and "hope." The latter is more important. As of now, we haven't seen Venti be referred to as such.

We've seen him be referred to as the God of Poetry and Songs, the Wind God, etc. We know he blesses wind gliders so they actually work, amongst so many other titles, but never "hope." That isn't to say the term doesn't fit him, it's just surprising. Neuvillette is the Hydro Dragon Sovereign, meaning he could know more than we do or at the very least know things about the Archons that haven't been revealed by even themselves (and Venti DOES have a habit of doing that).

Anyway, I've been thinking about it since I read the line and a lot of Mondstadt's lore has to do with hope: The Nameless bard hoped for freedom, to see the clear skies and birds that cageless soar; at the time of the Aristocracy that came after, the people of Mondstadt hoped for an end to the tyrannical reign, and the people of Mondstadt hope for their freedom not to come under threat again. The theme of hope is around not through Venti's actions themselves but rather a collaboration between Venti & the people of Mondstadt, and you'll also remember the Freedom Sworn description also questions whether or not Venti gained the love for Freedom from the people or vice versa (and I also said it could be both in that instance). So in this instance, it is "both" once again.

also the only time we see a card kingdom tree in the cyber is in the egg man room, which interestingly has a hint drawn right next to one of spamton's garbage cans (the one where he sells you the thorn ring). did he draw that, maybe?

i really really love this because: it goes well with my idea of spamton being an artist (shop background, vandalized queen paintings) + we know jevil has been to cyber city but now we might have confirmation spamton has been to card kingdom too and this is making me silly

TXT’s upcoming THE NAME CHAPTER will most definitely touch on the concept of True Names already introduced in The Star Seekers. True Names were first mentioned in The Doom's Night, and have been a huge aspect of their lore ever since.

In the Webtoon version of The Star Seekers, True Names are described as something that "not only shows your fate but also your powers. They are a source of redemption for you and everyone else."

In the Wattpad, on the other hand, they are defined as something that is "like a prophecy" but not quite. Everyone and everything has a true name that defines the essence of their soul, and while they don't necessarily show you the path to reach your fate, they do hint at the final destination of your journey.

A huge aspect of TXT’s story is for them to understand what is their name in order to realise their destiny. This is a concept that is also heavily featured in their music, where the "name" is something that has been mentioned in every album ever since their debut.

While we still don't have much information about The Name Chapter, the focus on the name suggests a focus on the theme of self-realisation. Discovering your name means discovering yourself - the powers that you have, the potential you can develop and the true purpose of your life.

Sebek and Silver - More alike than meets the eye

I know much has been said already on how Silver and Sebek diametrically oppose each other – from their handedness to their hobbies, and from their personalities to their poses in certain cards – but something I feel we also need to focus on is the one unifying point in their story arcs. Namely, their journeys to discover just who they are.

*This post contains light spoilers for cards and story content that have not been released on the EN server yet*

Sebek is infamous for his one-track mind. He dedicates himself to his studies, his extracurricular activities, and his training, all for Malleus’s sake – partly to earn commendation from the men he so respects, and partly to bring honor to his liege’s name. His endeavors are admirable, in that he is diligent, persevering, and earnest, yet rarely does he divulge any of his genuine, private ambitions.

Consider, in fact, that the very reason he sought to enroll at NRC was only to serve as Malleus’s guard, rather than for his own academic aspirations.

Though we’ve yet to learn just why he so fervently worships Malleus, perhaps we can trace this desire for his liege’s recognition back to a broader need to be affirmed of his worth. If you recall his despair at manifesting his magic so late, and how much it bothered him - hurt him, even - when Silver departed for NRC and left him behind, the great extent to which he values magical prowess is clear to see. And if we further consider how he so longs to separate himself from his human heritage – from his magicless heritage, could it be that, even more than the glory of knighthood, he simply yearns to find a part of himself that he – and all those around him – can be proud of, can find worth in?

For what is he without his magic? He, a mere half-blood, born amongst a peoples whose bodies thrum with a power more sacred, more ancient than the air within our lungs and the ground beneath our feet? I feel Sebek is so driven, so severe in his efforts to claim the right to stand by his liege’s side, just so that he one day might finally be able look himself in the mirror and say, “here, here is at least some part of me I don’t have to be ashamed of, that I don’t have to hate.”

And Silver, that sweet boy, how unerring, how remarkable is his selflessness, how his inexhaustible compassion belies the scant 17 years he’s spent awake on this earth! But when one pours out so much of oneself for others as he has done, when all that one does is for the sake of someone else, how often one loses sight of one’s own identity. Indeed, if I were to draw for you a map of the inside of Silver’s heart of hearts, if I were to plot for you his every dream, measure and record every aspect of his being, I scarcely doubt there’d be a single point you couldn’t trace back to his desire to make his father happy.

To that end, consider how we learned in Silver’s latest birthday vignette that Lilia began training him from an incredibly young age – when he had only just become conscious of his surroundings. A child that young cannot make such a monumental decision for himself - the decision must be made for the child. And so, we do not truly know if Silver’s dreams of knighthood are the result of his own personal meditations, or if his father, in his infinite folly, thrust them upon him, burdening the young child with an aspiration that would go on to consume nearly every facet of his life.

With the both of them being so unsure in their own identities, it's why I find it so poignant - and so apropos – that Sebek is the one to rouse Silver from his moments of self-doubt, time and time again. When Silver questioned his capabilities as a leader, when he wished desperately that he could change, that he could be more like his classmates, and when he, in his darkest hour, doubted even the sanctity of his father’s love for him – each and every time it was Sebek who liberated him from his great desolation.

It has to be Sebek - for who better to accompany Silver on his journey towards self discovery than one who must walk down the same path as he? Who better than his best friend, his brother, his reflection – his veritable light in the darkness of his own heart?

I find the parallels between Vaggie/Charlie and Carmilla/Zestial to be really neat.

Vaggie and Carmilla both leapt to the defense of Charlie and Zestial. Both bite their tongue at danger and disrespect directed towards themselves, but when who they care about is the one being threatened, they react with no hesitation or composure to defend them.

In conjunction, Charlie and Zestial are both more powerful than Vaggie and Carmilla (even if this is more strongly implied in Zestial’s case). Yet they seem so much more hesitant to act on this power. Charlie explicitly hates using her royal status or fighting people, while Zestial just endures Velvette’s insults and questioning, only making small verbal defenses of his position. Not to mention how they’re both much older than Vaggie and Carmilla. Charlie is a slow aging immortal and Zestial is the oldest living Overlord and is on the regular described as ancient.

Charlie and Zestial both see themselves as someone Vaggie and Carmilla should confide in. Charlie isn’t upset that Vaggie was Exorcist, rather that she never told her. While Zestial “implores [Carmilla] to share the load.” He’s worried about this weight she’s carrying by herself, and wants to support her. I imagine Charlie felt similarly, Vaggie has been carrying her secret in silence for years, and with Charlie dedicating her life to helping others, it must her to know someone she’s so close to has been hurting this long.

“Ain’t you supposed to protect this place?”

“I’ll keep you safe, and keep this secret.”

There’s also how their ‘protector role’ seems completely self assigned. I highly doubt Charlie ever wanted Vaggie to be her personal guard, and Zestial reacts in surprise at being included with who Carmilla is ‘keeping safe.’ If you take Zestial’s reaction (or lack their of) to Velevette, you could make the point they do this because Charlie and him are unlikely to defend themselves (or at the very least hesitate to do so). Which I think speaks to the intrinsic sense of duty Vaggie and Carmilla have.
