just the other week I was like “don’t relate to people saying their fave actor has made them watch crappy media cause my guy was an acting prodigy who got to do good stuff straight out of drama school” and yet I’ve now gotten to the twilight portion of Mr. Sheen’s filmography and I don’t know if I can do this gang…i always thought the memes and screen caps from this series were iconically funny. But this isn’t entertaining bad it’s just…bad

Okay post number 2 I’ll actually explain myself.
Every time I think about Impa I go bonkers but ESPECIALLY when I think about Impa and Ganondorf/Demise. These two are having a full on SAGA off screen and Nintendo is just too afraid of the raw energy their dynamic would bring. They would steal the show if let loose. Zelda and Link’s soulmate bond would pale in comparison to their absolutely fucked up 8D chess eternal rivalry. They’ve been playing the “too different to ever be friends, too similar to hate each other” game for centuries and it’s high time we addressed it lmao
Despite having about one scene of on-screen interaction and no dialogue together, Impa and Ganondorf are pretty clearly set up to be narrative foils. Impa is the servant of the goddess, the protector of Zelda, and guide to Link. Ganondorf is the rebel, the Demon King, and the opponent of the Princess and the Hero. Impa is defined by her selflessness, time and again devoting her life to serving Hylia and the Royal Family, even at a price for herself. Ganondorf, in contrast, is characteristically selfish; seeking to fulfill his own goals at the expense of others.
The Sheikah and the Gerudo are foils too. Both suffer the subjugation of the Royal Family, and both are the only other two human races besides Hylians. However, the Sheikah for the most part conform to their roles, serving the Royal Family, (therefore labeled as “good” by the Hylian narrative), while the Gerudo actively resist that regime (and are hence labeled as “bad”).
(The Yiga Clan is also a very curious facet of this issue, but that’s a whole other can of worms I don’t really feel equipped to discuss right now.)
Impa and Ganondorf are also tied together through their game appearances. Impa does not appear in a game without Ganon, and while Ganondorf sometimes appears without Impa, two of those occasions are Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. The same man as OOT, who has already met her. (FSA idk what’s going on there lmao. She wanted a break and that’s valid.) Timeline wise, they also return together after SS, both appearing in OOT after not being present during Minish Cap or FS. Intentionally or not, if one of them is there, the other will be too.
Impa and Ganondorf are undoubtedly paired together in the cycle, although less explicitly than Zelda and Link. They balance out the four, with Link and Zelda being destined always to find each other and work together, whereas Ganondorf and Impa are destined always to work against each other. Ganon attacks the kingdom, and Impa facilitates the resistance.
For all their differences, Impa and Ganondorf often operate in very similar ways. Throughout many of the games, they’re both working behind the scenes; nudging the heroes or their minions in the direction they want like chess pieces on a board. Ganondorf is more explicit in this (ex: Zant, Vaati, etc) but it’s important to remember that Impa is more than a passive side character. In Skyward Sword, she is directing Zelda down the path that leads to pretty much every major event in the game, and in Ocarina of Time, she raised Sheik and almost certainly sent him out to find Link. (Honestly, as much as Zelda is Hylia-incarnate, Impa is really the one pushing the Goddess’s agenda.) From these roles as orchestrators, they share a level a power over the narrative that the other characters don’t possess. Power that exists to contradict the other.
There’s also the scene in OOT where Impa escapes with young Zelda, pursued by Ganondorf, and it’s entirely possible they duked it out before the drawbridge bit. If so, then Impa’s escape implies a level of combat/magical power that is reasonably comparable to Ganondorf’s. I think it’s reasonable to say that Ganondorf likely outweighs Impa in raw strength, but she holds her ground surprisingly well. Ex: surviving the Calamity, escaping the castle in the OG game, also probably surviving the initial fight with Demise as Hylia’s guardian.
The icing on the cake to all of this is that when developing the lore, Impa was originally supposed to be a bearer of the Triforce with Link and Zelda. I checked the Hyrule Historia after seeing a post about Impa initially wielding Power and it’s true. She was originally supposed to be a guardian alongside Link and Zelda, not Ganon. And I just… oh my gosh the implications of that.
Looking at Impa through the lens of not necessarily someone who was destined to wield Power in canon, but someone who conceivably could is so fascinating. It makes her connection to Ganondorf all the more potent, not just as foils, but as two people who could just as easily be each other as oppose each other. In Ocarina of Time, for example, it’s not hard to picture an Impa who took a similar path as Ganondorf. Her people have been brought to the brink of near extinction, mostly thanks to the Royal Family. It’s entirely conceivable that she might find herself drawn to the Triforce just as much as Ganon was, seeking not coveted wind, but the undoing of so many lost lives.
All of this just sets the ground work for an absolutely fascinating relationship, and it drives me nuts that the games never explore it. Impa and Ganondorf both share a great deal of ambiguity regarding their intentions, motives, and overall feelings, and focusing on the two of them would open the doors to aspects of their character we haven’t seen. Being non-Hylian, older, and typically more world weary than Link and Zelda, they have a perspective on the cycle that is intriguing, and almost certainly not as positive. I think that would be neat to see.
Demise and Impa also have some interesting potential, especially considering how much time they spent in proximity. Like she spent centuries guarding the Imprisoned, as well as the sword he was sealed in. Did they ever speak? Did she know him from before he was sealed? Did he respect her skill and power the way he respected Link’s? There’s so many brain worms there.
Anyway, I have so many more thoughts on these two but honestly they’re better expressed via creative writing lmao. I can’t even begin to describe the absolutely insanity that their interactions would be. They’re like mortal enemies and begrudging friends and bitter exes and strangers in the same sad situation and hot messes all at once.

your first i love you with seventeen
“maybe it’s cliche to say you know me best, but it’s true. maybe it’s cliche to say we only live once, but i spend my nights pondering those words, and every time my thoughts end up on you.”
seungcheol: “i told you i love you two years ago when i was drunk, and you never mentioned it. i didn’t forget. it was the first thing i thought of the next morning, and i could barely look at you. did you notice? i’m ready to say it now because i finally believe i’ll be ok if you don’t feel the same way, even though i hope you do.”
jeonghan: “my best friend slept over last night… you’ve met her... a hundred times it seems, but she started talking about you, and i wasn’t expecting her to. i felt this pride as if the words she used to praise you were somehow meant for me too. i’ve known how i feel, but that moment was laced with something more: something so assuring that the emotion is love. i’ve never known it like i do with you, and i’ve found myself wondering if this is it. it must be, certainly because i think of you with the same enchantment as my favorite things, and i don’t mean the chipped mug in my pantry or the blanket i’ve had for years. i mean the smell of the earth after rain, and the times the clouds absorb the color of a sunrise. my love for you is beyond what i thought was possible to hold in my hand, and yet…”
joshua: “i feel like i’ve loved you forever. i used to invite you over for dinner when we were just kids, and i’d smile to myself when i made a place at the table for you. i’d ask my mom for the blue cup because it’s the one you’d choose after school… i want that to be my routine for the rest of my life. i want to meet you at the dining table. those years weren’t nearly enough.”
jun: “you’re the only person who came to my university graduation. i love you. i knew when you fixed the tassel on my cap and kissed my cheek for a picture. i wanted more just because with no camera around. i love you.”
soonyoung: “your parents invited me into their home so sincerely. your mother held my face between her palms, and i had to close my eyes beneath the intensity of her gaze- her sweet gaze. you squeezed my hand when we filled the living room after dinner. i knew what it meant: a silent you did it, but it felt like the stars. i’m in love with you. i want to talk to your parents whenever they’ll have me. i want to look through all the pictures in their albums on the bookshelf. i want to wrap my fingers around blades of grass in the backyard, reminiscing that night with you beside me, sharing words and smiles in twilight’s breeze. it felt like heaven.”
wonwoo: “last night you held my hand when i was crying during the movie. i hadn’t realized you spent any time watching me. i swallowed the loudness because i didn’t want you to ask why i was crying harder, but your thumb rubbed my hand like you already knew. since the first day we met, you’ve seen me. it wouldn’t make sense for me not to love you.”
jihoon: “thank you for walking with me to the grocery store and remembering the things i forgot to add to my list. i love you, and that i’ll always remember.”
seokmin: “you invited me to the show. you looked at me with so much warmth when you told me you wanted me in the audience. i felt my hands cover my heart when your face consumed the big screen. i whispered my love for you among a sea of shouting, among a sea of people who would understand if i told them, without knowing how deep it goes, without knowing i’ve woken up to your face on a handful of my favorite mornings. i love you.”
mingyu: “we spent the entire day at the hospital, and i never saw you frown. you asked the questions i didn’t have the energy to. you looked at me after the doctor spoke for my reaction, to see if you needed to step in. i told you for days you didn’t have to come, and i was fine going alone, that i didn’t want to ruin your day off. you never listened. you told me you promised to go the next time you could, and i’m so glad. i wish it didn’t feel this hard to admit when i need someone, but it is. maybe that’s because i came to know the look of resentment in my parent’s eyes, and i’m terrified of you watching me like they have. for now, your eyes are warm, and i love you. i love you for so much more than what you did today, but the final piece slid into place when i saw you in my doorway this morning. you spoke so softly. i was just waking up, but you came over early, said you wanted time to make me tea… make sure i didn’t forget anything. i practiced the way it would sound in the shower: my first, true i love you. i whispered it into the stream.”
minghao: “my heart kind of hurts when i look at you, but i’ve decided i don’t mind because it goes away whenever you look back or say my name. i’ve come to love my name and brown eyes and you.”
seungkwan: “this isn’t the first time i’ve tried to tell you how i feel. it happened last year on your birthday. i bought one of those blank cards and filled its white with all the honesty in my heart. but i couldn’t give it to you. i couldn’t make your big day about me. i couldn’t write myself into your memory and tarnish the celebration if you didn’t feel the same way. i kept the card, and i’m ready to give it to you now. if anything, the love has grown, but the words are still… i would write the same ones in this moment for you.”
hansol: “you’ve eaten so many meals on my balcony; i love you.”
chan: “there’s something about seeing you do what you love… seeing you on stage. it all comes undone for me in those moments, and tonight was just the same. i have no idea who stood beside me, but i told them i love you. they said they do too, and it made me laugh. it made my heart burst. now it’s time to tell you. i’ve said it a hundred times already, but the meaning’s changed. it continued to grow and bloom, so now there’s all this love—petaled love, pollen love all over my fingers—i hope to share with you.”

Carmen Week Day 3: Screen cap redraw
Okay, so I kind of went off script with today's prompt. I love the one scene in season 4 where GoldLove threatens to kill Carmen without knowing she's talking to Carmen. I think Carmen's unbothered reaction is actually the sexiest thing I've ever seen. Uh! But anyway! I also love Spy x Family! I think it is also incredibly sexy when Twilight is floored by whatever bullshit is happening for all of 0.1 seconds before snapping into spy mode. I love the way the manga portrays it so while this is "technically" a redraw of a CS screenshot, it's also a redraw of this panel:

I heard nothing is stationary—well, it’s never been more clear.
Transcript:
Austin (as Parti): …that’s what I’m saying, I’m saying it’s not just a mentality, it’s like—it’s a structure that keeps people, it—no, it produces mentality, it doesn’t just…
One second, I think—I think we’re live. I think the signal’s up again. Hello? Hello? Are you hearing us? Hello, Palisade. Hello, Twilight Mirage. Hello, Qui Err Coalition. You know what? Hello to the Bilateral Intercession! I know you hate to hear us, [singsong] but we’re back!
Back in the lab again, back finding mixtures and fixes for shit you done mixed up. Back in Black’s chair, back at his microphone. I wish he could see it—the colors, the tone, the skies all rhinestones. I’m sorry, I’m stoned, just a little. A little goes a long way here on our new home. A little ripple in the middle of war. I saw a missile transformed into straw hospital filled, but it’s hard to ignore that the sky’s on fire with light.
Yes, they name me Particular Emphasis, but there’s a party up in here. I heard nothing is stationary—well, it’s never been more clear. We’re moving on them now, and it’s up for them. It ain’t even really close. ’Bout to hit the lick then take home [singsong] a full seven notes. So let me check mine, ’cause I know that I got some shit to say before small things grow big, before tomorrow turns yesterday.
This one’s for Baldwin, for Black Screen—all caps, please. This one’s for Phrygian, who’s between the fuse and the bomb. This one’s for the figure in our hearts who I hope is finally calm. This one’s for those who’ve had their names stripped away, or with names we never say, or with many names, multivalence, but committed in each to snatching they chains today.
Nah, you know what? This one’s just for me. If you’re listening, Bilats, let me tell you what I see. We are ungettable, unforgettable, unfuck-wit-able. And we’re really cute—we are unmistakable, undebatable, and we don’t even need a backing track to do what we ’bout to do.

Soo! TotK and AlttP. I played AlttP shortly after BotW on nso, when TotK still wasn't out. I liked it a lot at first, but I have to say I didn't complete it. It was technologically advanced for that time for sure, but I don't think it aged well. The dungeons didn't leave me anything valuable to remember, like other games did, the items weren't equipped easily and the story was too simple and banal.
As for TotK. Oh TotK. I got to play botw another bit before returning it (I had borrowed it from a friend), after quitting alttp. And I still liked it! Then I bought TotK and at the beginning I was extremely surprised, it looked so great. I thought Rauru was the same first sage from OoT and he had a "goat disguise" to not be recognized, like his owl form. Of course I was wrong and then I was so disappointed, i left it almost one year ago and don't have any urge to play it again, I probably will though and give it another chance because something was really good like seeing grown up characters or finding those "Zeldas" or building things or finding amiibo costumes. - the story is great for a standalone game, but for zelda? The zonai make no sense to me and contradicted everything we knew. In the past right after sksw the gerudo weren't known, the zora and rito didn't exist, the gorons weren't on death mountain. They should have made another antagonist and not Ganondorf. Zelda's sacrifice was honestly a so great part, but the ending was awful. - the "dungeons" were copies of each other. And short and banal as heck, and the dialogues after each one were always the same. - People didn't remember Link. Only some of the major characters did but the majority of the npcs didn't know him. And Link didn't have the majority of his clothes. I know the outfits weren't mandatory to get in botw (nothing was mandatory tho) but at least the most known could have been left. The gerudo outfit, the climber set, the hylian set, the luminous stone set! They made up a story for the zora tunic and that's a good thing. - The depths were empty and too dark, even after the light roots were lighted. It was too easy to get lost. - the ultrahand and fuse mechanics are amazing as well as the ascend, but they should have made them mandatory at least for some parts of the game, to give them more spotlight. - I would have loved to have way more sksw references, this isn't a flaw of course but a personal preference! Also I would have loved to have Wolf Link as an ally again, instead of the spirits of the sages. - personal experience: the game crashed after I defeated Ganondorf for the last time. I was about to see the final cutscene when the screen went black and it never played (I saw it on youtube). Everything else on the swotch worked perfectly so it was just the game. Of course it doesn't autosave or let people save the game after entering the zone before the first fight with Ganondorf so I'm back there. I hated it.

Pokemon Horizons Episode 18 Review - A Flashback Masterpiece
I’m sorry, Episode 16, you just got dethroned after two weeks of reign. Episode 18 is now the best episode of this anime by far. It’s just an origin story, but the animation and storytelling are so immaculate. It’s almost perfection in a way. It feels like a good closure to the first arc and the beginning to the next possible arc in the Rising Volt Tacklers’ journey.
Tumblr media
Liko and Roy are curious about how Captain Pikachu is able to fly in the air, so they team up with Dot to ask Friede about Cap’s origins. He avoids the topic, but with the help of Orla meddling, Friede finally reveals his past with Cap. Once a promising Professor, Friede starts his story jobless and listless. He had no motivation and no drive to do anything after quitting; he spends his days fishing with Ludlow and that didn’t excite him either. One day, he gets a phone call from his old teacher, Lucca (Liko’s mother), who he hasn’t seen since his student days at the Kanto region. Lucca moved to Paldea from Kanto after getting married to Alex. She wonders why he quit his job at the lab. Friede says that he knows everything there is to know about Pokemon, but Lucca sees through his front and points out that he lost his drive. She then asks him to meet up with him the next day at dawn where he is introduced to the Pikachu that will one day become Captain Pikachu. At first, Friede didn’t want to bother with a Pikachu, but after seeing how Cap used Volt Tackle to make a vortex into the sky, he became interested in it. He spends his next days trying to observe and theorize Pikachu’s goals and actions. After befriending him, Friede and Pikachu become partners and the Rising Volt Tacklers came to be.
First off, this backstory was amazing. It played out like a movie! I do like how Friede quitting his job and losing his drive is parallel to a lot of adults trying to find their place in life in the real world. People say that Pokemon is childish or for a general children’s audience (which it is), but having Friede and the Rising Volt Tacklers be adults and have mature motives for their path in life shows that Pokemon isn’t afraid to bring in an older audience as well. It’s like Mollie’s backstory that was told in episode 11 where she quit her job at the Pokemon Center because working there wasn’t fulfilling for her. Friede quit his job because it wasn’t fulfilling for him. I’m sure there are a lot of adults who relate to this; I relate to this myself!
I like how Pikachu was very hostile towards Friede in the beginning of their encounter. It shows off how much of a wild Pokemon he was back then. He was annoyed with Friede and kept tackling him. I think my favorite part of this episode was Pikachu gathering berries and then rushing off to eat them. I think this is one of the rare moments we see Pikachu behave very animal-like. We never saw Ash’s Pikachu as a wild Pokemon as much since most of his screen time was being a captured Pokemon and a pet of sorts. Seeing how Pikachu respected Friede towards the end of the flashback felt realistic because Pikachu knew Friede was always there and it even saved him from falling. In turn, Friede finding drive in Pikachu was understandable. Life is always full of mysteries and finding that one fateful moment can lead to a myriad of opportunities. Pikachu was definitely Friede’s muse in a way.
The animation was very smooth. The scene where Friede and Charizard flew up to the skies next to Pikachu’s vortex flabbergasted me. I never knew OLM Studio could animate this beautifully. This definitely looks like something shown in a Pokemon film or in a smaller mini-series like Twilight Wings. The way everything kept moving throughout the scene, taking a break when they looked beyond the horizon, and then moving again once Pikachu fell was breathtaking. I may not be an animator, but I can see good animation quality!
I do like how Lucca was the reason why Pikachu and Friede got together. Lucca is also the reason why Liko met the Rising Volt Tacklers. The theme of connection is very prevalent for this anime as it is a bond that expands beyond horizons. I cooed over seeing baby Liko in the episode; she’s so cute. I deduce that the flashback might have occurred at least five or six years ago since Liko is most likely ten or eleven at most. The fact that a mere glimpse of seeing Friede over a video call was the stepping stone of her current life is pretty fascinating in itself.
I also liked learning more about the Rising Volt Tacklers. It turns out that Ludlow and Friede were already acquainted with each other. Orla and Friede are also childhood friends with them both being Kantonians but Orla moved to Hoenn. The fact that Friede was requesting Orla to build an airship from Ludlow’s ship meant that he and Ludlow sailed all the way to the Hoenn region from Paldea. That’s determination right there. The fact that Friede, Cap, Orla and Ludlow were the starting members of the Rising Volt Tacklers seems meaningful now.
I love the little cameo of Larry in the restaurant, showing the game canon of him being a regular at that restaurant. Since this was a few years back, I do wonder if Larry is still a Gym Leader five or six years later and still working overtime. Anyways, I do like that this episode had the opening song play towards the end, signifying the closure of one chapter and the start of a new one. There hasn’t been talks or announcements of a new opening or ending song, so I do wonder where the show will go from here. I think this episode was flawless, but what about you? What do you think about this episode?
