NEO: TWEWY
yeah I know, im late to the party.  Fake fan, whatever
BUT
I finally started playing NEO and oh my god
(for reference as of this post im on week 2 day 4,  so ya know, all of THAT has happened already
I wish I had thought to like, liveblog it or something, because I am SO invested right now.  I don't think I will, necessarily, I just wanted to put my predictions and thoughts out there so I can see how they stack up once I reach end game.
spoilers, obviously (also unedited)
okay so first, ARE we actually dead???  like I made a joke about it to my friend like “they are such Gen Z, like oh were dead?  Cool AND THEN DIDN’T QUESTION ANYTHING ABOUT THAT” but then it kept going and we still haven't talked about it?  Until we finally met Beat (my boy, I’ll get to you)  and he firmly says he's alive.  That opens a whole host of questions for me
Is he really?
Are we?
is anyone else, if we are?
I’m pretty sure there's some legit dead players, but now that im thinking about it I can't remember now if they actually said they died, or if they've just been playing the game long term (Motoi, and one of the Variabeauties come to mind)
and then what does that mean if they’re taking living players???  is that even allowed???
which brings me to my second point: WHER IS JOSH???  like im not expecting him to be a main character, but he is/was basically GOD, so is this him???  I don't think it is because we thought he learned a lesson since last time, and living players was never a thing when he was in charge.  So did he get taken out of commission?  is he the mysterious “you” that the hat character is talking about.  (I have a theory, ill get to it)
and Neku.  My son, my boy, my little spicy tuna roll.  How does this man come back into play now of all times.  first of all, what did he do to get back on the reapers radar after three years.  these ‘new’ games have been running for at least a year (we know Motoi has been playing for a year at least) and its been three years since the Big Game that took every one out, so how long have they been looking for him, how long has he been in hiding, and why can't they find him?  they wanted us players to track him down and fight him, which implies that he's still currently connected to the UG in a way that lets us interact with him, but if that's the case, shouldn't they be able to like, trace him or something (that might be a fanfic thing I've made canon in my head, about people having traceable auras or whatever).  because it sounded like Beat’s been looking for him too, and up until recently Beat was in the UG, so where's Neku?
and then Beat, poor guy.  Why is he looking for Neku anyway?  I mean, I guess if my friend is missing, id look too, but how long has Beat been looking for him?  How long has be been missing?  Why did he get dragged back into this mess too???  I’m digging the new fit tho, don't get me wrong, I liked Beat well enough before, but he looks a lot more Sk8ter Boi and less ‘basketball player’ now.  I do hope Rhyme and Shiki are doing okay without their guys tho, I wonder if we’ll hear anything about them at all?
Also what the fuck is Hype-Chan’s deal?  (I KNOW she has a name now, but she's been Hype-chan since 2012, she will be Hype-chan until I die). Like, something is going on with her and I can't wait to find out what.
Another question: I think its pretty obvious that the ruin bringers are getting special treatment.  the question is, why?  Whats the goal of keeping everybody in the UG like this indefinitely?  because that's what it looks like to me.  The whole point of the reapers game, as Kariya put it, is to find the best and brightest Shibuya has to offer, to give the people who can make Shibuya a better place a second chance at life.  Obviously the rules have changed since the last time we played, but what's the point of keeping everyone in Limbo like this?  Obviously Shiba’s having a good time (also, who made him the new conductor???  it couldn't have been Josh, no way) but what's even the point of having a game if you won't let anyone come back to life???
And where did all of these reapers even come from?  Uzuki told us that there are reapers all over the place, but did they wander here themselves, where they appointed by the higher ups?  Who's the producer now, since CAT is apparently on hiatus (I guess Sanae got in trouble after all?)
and then there's that whole vision Rindo had and keeps having about Shibuya like, blowing up or whatever.  Thats a whole thing I don't even have thoughts about yet.
theres a bigger story here im not seeing yet (at least I hope so, ill be disappointed if im wrong).
Heres what I think.  My predictions, if you will.
I think that something happened to Joshua after the Big Game.  We know that Sanae got in trouble, so it would stand to reason that Josh did too.  I think he disappeared himself (like with Another Day) and left Shibuya a vacuum, with very few strays left to pick up the pieces (Uzuki, Kariya, and that one wall reaper who said he knew Neku from before are the ones I can think of).  I think that, seeing this open playing field, reapers from other districts were either moved in, or they took it themselves (they seem like the sort.  All the new reapers are kinda sleazy and I don't trust them). I think that Neku, for whatever reason, figured this out, or was told, or kept some kind of connection with the UG or with Josh (hello fanfic brain, I see you) - I honestly wouldn't put it past Kariya to know more than he’s telling us so far, and to have something to do with it.  I think Neku dug himself back into the UG somehow to look for Joshua, so that Joshua can fix things again - they said they wanted to make Neku a reaper, but I don't know how they pan on doing that because it never seemed like something you could force on someone, and also Beat was able to quit being one, so how were they planning on making him stay?  I think that the reapers are gonna try and pull something similar to what Kitaniji did with his red pins, but this time I think the goal is to... merge the RG and the UG - it would make sense what with the living player angle, I just don't know what the end goal is.
I ALSo think that Shokie is gonna be a party member at some point, just based on the box art.  Do I want her too?  not really, but I think she will be.
I didn't even get into WHATEVER Minamimoto has going on, I couldn't make heads or tails of it, other than I think he’s also looking for Joshua (I don't personally think he has any reason to look for Neku specifically, outside of to get to Josh). We’ll see, I don't think we’ve seen the last of Pi Face
I have a Lot more thoughts, but im kind of just rambling at this point.
We’ll see how it shapes up, and where I was wrong

There's this aspect of Joshua Kiryu's character arc that I'm sort of flabbergasted to realize might be basically un-analyzed these past 15 or so years. I still kind of expect someone will pop up and point to something they've already written, but i'll talk about it anyway. This might also create some analysis ideas for NEO?? Ideally, anyway.
Essentially, I think it's really likely that Joshua misunderstood way more about his situation with Hanekoma, Minamimoto, and Neku than people tend to think. Not only that, but the idea that he had these misunderstandings kind of colors his relationship with Hanekoma. It also adds to him and Neku being foils. Where do I even begin.
I guess just with this scene that always made me go "hm, that's weird." Joshua: Think he's got a thing for you, Neku? Neku: What!? How the hell do you figure that? Joshua: Oh, please! The way he follows you around? Neku: That's just because I'm a Player. Joshua: I don't see him chasing after the other Players. Neku: (He's right… So why me?) Joshua: …Or is it my fault? Neku: (What? That's right… He might be tied in with the Reapers.)
So, what's so weird about this? Am I actually proposing that Joshua really thought Minamimoto was following Neku when he asked this? YES. I AM. That might sound nonsensical, and that's because it kind of is! But there's a reason for that.
When you know what happened in the Udagawa back alley a week and some change prior to that scene, it's reasonable to ask "why would Joshua think a Reaper was after some random RG guy?" Minamimoto came at him with a gun! But then why did Joshua even ask Neku if Minamimoto was following him? If he's trying to trick Neku into thinking this, he wouldn't immediately propose the truth afterwards. Maybe he's trying to make Neku distrust him as he does earlier (Neku scanning him, general sketch behavior perhaps) but not only is that redundant, it still doesn't answer why he asked about Neku in the first place.
So what happens if we take Joshua at face value here? Are we to assume Joshua thought he was the target at Udagawa, but Neku is the target now? I have no idea what the thought process would be behind that. Are we to assume that Joshua thought Neku was the target the whole time?? That still seems illogical, but maybe instead of asking why Neku would be the target, we should shift our focus and ask "why would Joshua think he isn't the target?"
I find that a lot easier to answer because we have Hanekoma. And Joshua thought he did too, basically.
We know from Secret Report 9 that the only person who should know Joshua's RG identity here is Mr. H.
SR 9: Minamimoto knows the Composer's RG identity (secret even to the Conductor), and has chased him to the Realground. The Fallen Angel may also have supplied him with this information.
Even in this report, it's proposed (by Hanekoma's misdirection) that someone else, some other Angel perhaps, could know Joshua's identity. We know that there isn't another Angel who told Minamimoto this information though. It was just Hanekoma. The only person in the story for Joshua to suspect is Mr. H.
Yet he doesn't. Or, I don't believe he does anyway. Let's take a look at our options.
Tumblr media
Why does Joshua not seem to be wondering who sold him out? We have two branching options to start with: "He already knows who did it" and "he doesn't realize he's been sold out."
Lots of people assume Joshua already knows Hanekoma revealed his identity to Minamimoto. Because like… how else would he have known? Literally what else is Joshua supposed to think after being shot at? I mean, I've been explaining what else Joshua could have thought, but the point is it's a fair assumption. The only issue is that Joshua doesn't behave like he knows Mr. H betrayed him until Week 2 Day 5.
Tumblr media
That is a long delay between then and when Joshua should have first known this information (before the story even starts.) I don't know when definitively Joshua put it together, but W2D5 is the first time we can say we KNOW he knows. And it really might have been that moment, because what happens right afterwards?
Well, Neku and him get attacked by Beat and Joshua learns about Kitaniji's "special op." But what happens right after THAT?
Joshua tells Neku that Hanekoma is CAT. An eye for an eye, I guess.
Part of the idea that Joshua did know Mr. H betrayed him from the start is that maybe Joshua was just putting up with that fact. That maybe Hanekoma was too useful, and couldn't do more harm anyway. Or that Joshua really didn't have any other options. I can understand why people think that, but I don't think we can bet on any of those. There's no reason for Joshua to think Hanekoma couldn't do way more harm than just tattling on him, especially as the week goes on and Taboo Noise crop up. Also, while it's impossible to prove one way or the other, there's no reason to think Joshua couldn't have built his game plan sans Hanekoma from the start if he thought he'd betrayed him. All of this assuming that Joshua gives a shit about what Mr. H did, admittedly.
On the other hand, if we posit that Joshua found out later about Mr. H, and that he'd give a shit about that, there should be some kind of change in his behavior towards him. This seems a little hard to to prove because that scene on W2D5 is the last time we see them interact (or even see Mr. H at all) until the ending of the game. That said, it's probably very telling that in TWEWY Mr. H is Joshua's sole confidant, and in NEO Mr. H has no idea what's going on with Joshua at all. I find that very interesting, but we're gonna put a pin in that for later.
Aaaaaaaaaall of that's to say that I don't think it's very likely that Joshua knew Hanekoma told Minamimoto his identity from the start. He shares information with Mr. H too easily for me to think that's the case. What's our next option?
It's possible that Joshua believed he already knew who told Minamimoto, but he was mistaken. However, I said before that there isn't any other suspect in the story and I don't think we can give Joshua another suspect to focus on without just making stuff up. Haz and Coco come to mind as people who might be able to share Joshua's identity, but we can't escape the fact that neither of them even existed at the time Joshua's main character arc was written. We would probably also have to invent some connection they'd have to this particular Game despite them being absent. I think this option is less likely than Joshua knowing about Mr. H the whole time, so I'm striking it off.
What we have left is the "Joshua didn't know he'd been sold out" option. Aside from what I've been arguing, the only other option is "Joshua thought Minamimoto found out on his own somehow." There's no solid reason for Joshua to think this, but it's possible he did anyway. The only reason I think this is less likely than the possibility that he didn't realize Minamimoto was after him is because of how Joshua talked to Neku back there. We have evidence that Joshua might have thought Minamimoto was after someone else; we don't have evidence that Joshua might have thought Minamimoto was able to discover his identity on his own. That said, after the conversation Josh had with Neku W2D2 it's possible his assumption shifted from one to the other as he was trying to figure things out.
So yeah, I believe it's most likely that Joshua didn't realize he'd been sold out at all because that would require him to think Hanekoma would do that to him. Because of that, he believed for more than a week that Neku was Minamimoto's target when they were all in the RG.
You might think that this idea would run into a lot of inconsistencies but I've found it to be shockingly coherent. (Honestly the whole background plot of this game is shockingly coherent for how overt it's themes are. I guess that's beside the point.) Like, let's look at the scene in Udagawa.
It starts with Neku looking up at the tag mural. Then Joshua runs up with a gun from Neku's left. It appears as if Joshua may have been looking behind him. Then Joshua fires in Neku's direction. Neku falls to the ground, but he is unhurt. Then Minamimoto is revealed to be behind Neku with a gun. He is clutching his shoulder. Minamimoto raises his gun, and Neku shields himself. Then several shots are fired towards Joshua. Joshua stops the bullets with his powers, and silently threatens to shoot Minamimoto again. Minamimoto runs off, and Joshua shoots Neku while he is looking after him.
If Joshua already believes that his identity is safe, none of that would clearly contradict that idea to him! Why did Josh think Minamimoto shot at him? Because Joshua already shot Minamimoto. Why was Joshua running if he didn't think Minamimoto was chasing him? To get to his target before the Reaper.
Conversely, why would Joshua be running from Minamimoto if bullets aren't going to hit him?
To us it's obvious that Minamimoto was chasing Joshua and tried to cut him off at the other end of the alley. But to Joshua at the time, he thought Minamimoto was going for the guy in between them.
This does raise some other questions, but there's enough of a case here that I think it's worth speculating off of. Did Joshua even have a theory as to why Minamimoto would be after someone in the RG? Maybe he thought Kitaniji sent one of his Reapers after his potential proxy. Why would it matter to Joshua if Minamimoto killed Neku instead of him if he needs the guy dead? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Joshua only leaves that extra Player Pin-- his trump card-- on Neku after Minamimoto leaves.
Kind of wild so far, right? Well we're not done because I think this idea that Joshua may have had created ANOTHER oversight for him.
Week 2 Day 7: Minamimoto: I was hoping for a little reenactment. Same spot, same setup as last time… Neku: (Last time? Nrrgh! Not now!) Joshua: You OK, Neku? Neku: Waaaugh! [incomplete Neku death cutscene] Neku: It… it was you? Joshua: Neku… Neku: You killed me… You stole my life!
What's with Joshua's reactions here? Did he not realize that Neku was getting headaches around Minamimoto?
(yes)
It's understandable if you think Joshua is faking it here, but if you're with me about this so far you also have to admit that Joshua's surprise can be pretty genuine. I'll be honest, I thought this way before I thought anything else I've put in this essay so far just because Joshua and the situation seemed sincere to me. Why wouldn't Joshua notice this, though?
See, there are four times that Neku, Joshua and Minamimoto are all in the same scene. Neku gets a headache from all of them, and this is what they look like:
Tumblr media
Maybe this is just me, but the sprite direction in all of them but the last one makes it seem like Joshua stays between Neku and Minamimoto, and that he does not take his eyes off of Minamimoto the whole time he's around. And compare day 1 to day 7. Even though Neku's sprite is the one in the middle, he retreats backwards when he gets the headache, giving the suggestion that he's actually sort of behind Joshua. That doesn't happen on day 7 though, meaning Neku is definitely far enough in front that Joshua can see him-- and that's when Joshua finally reacts.
How could Joshua misunderstanding Minamimoto's target contribute to this? Regardless of the misunderstanding here, it's clear to me that Joshua views Minamimoto as enough of a threat that he doesn't even glance at Neku while he's having a memory migraine. But the fact that Joshua does notice on W2D7 seems a little less random if that misunderstanding had cleared up for him and caused him to be less zeroed in on Minamimoto. Keep in mind that these four events split evenly into "before W2D5" and "after W2D5." That means that the first two, Joshua would have thought Neku was the target, and the last two are when Joshua knows he was the target all along.
It makes some sense that Joshua might be so focused on Minamimoto that he doesn't notice what's going on with Neku if he thought Neku was being targeted, but what's going on W2D6? Joshua should know by then it's not Neku that Minamimoto was after. Hell, Minamimoto saved both of them earlier that day so why is he so focused on him then but not the next day? I suspect it's because this was Joshua's first time talking to Minamimoto while knowing he tried to kill him, and he was very absorbed in it.
So on days 1 and 2, Joshua was totally focused on Minamimoto because he viewed him as a threat to his proxy. Day 6 Joshua is focused on Minamimoto but it's not about him being an immediate threat, and on day 7 Minamimoto is at his most dangerous, but Joshua thought he could relax more because he was the target and not Neku.
There is one more thing that might keep this from the list of "Shit Joshua Did Not Know About," and it's the fact that Neku… talks? He talks while he's in migraine pain. Joshua may not spare a glance Neku's way but he can hear. Would that not tip him off earlier than W2D7 if he wasn't just ignoring Neku? Funny that-- the dialogue is actually sort of clever here.
Neku talks a decent amount when he's getting that memory migraine around Minamimoto, but the most suspect lines Neku has aren't spoken by him out loud.
Week 2 Day 2: Minamimoto: You fractals have no future! QED. Class is dismissed! [Minamimoto leaves] Neku: (Finally… The pounding's stopped. What language is that guy speaking?)
Week 2 Day 6: Neku: !? Zetta… Neku: (Nrrgh! My head… again…) […] Neku: (The pain's fading… Are he and I connected or something?)
Earlier on (as in the two days Joshua is most focused on Minamimoto as a threat) Neku does also speak out loud about his brain suffering. If Joshua isn't looking at him as well though, they're all things he could interpret as Neku simply complaining about the Weird Math Guy Who Says Confusing Things Through A Megaphone. Neku doesn't like people being loud or people speaking nonsense after all, and uh… Joshua also didn't have the highest opinion of Neku's sociability. Assumptions are a hell of a thing.
So Joshua went into his Game with Neku completely unaware that Hanekoma betrayed him and that Minamimoto was trying to kill him specifically. Then he carried on for nearly the majority of this game without knowing that Minamimoto-- or perhpas the combination of him and Minamimoto-- was giving his proxy debilitating headaches. What does that mean for his character?
Little, but interesting things, I think. I find it pretty compelling that Joshua missed something big about Neku because he was so self-involved even while trying to protect him. It's a neat thing to point at and go "yup, Neku's not the only one who looks stupid for writing people off." I think it also lends well to the idea that they were both getting to know each other in week 2.
Also-- we're coming back to that pin from earlier-- I think it helps flesh out a difference between Neku and Joshua's situations at the end of the game.
Neku: I'm glad I met you guys. You made me… pick up on things, I probably would've just gone on ignoring. Trust your partner… and I do. I can't forgive you, but I trust you.
If you've collected all the secret reports, after Neku's ending monologue and the credits, there's the secret ending. And I feel like the idea of "trust vs. forgiveness" is a palpable element when the ending is viewed as a whole like this. TWEWY doesn't touch upon the idea of forgiveness nearly as much as it does the idea of trust, but I can't help but see a distinction between the two in Joshua just as much as Neku. Only where Neku trusts Joshua but doesn't forgive him yet, Joshua forgives Hanekoma but doesn't trust him yet.
Think about it, doesn't "forgives but does not trust" perfectly describe all of Joshua's future behavior towards Hanekoma? He'll hang around Mr. H in the Room of Reckoning and 104, or talk with him casually about the destruction of a neighboring city. But he wont talk to him if he's upset, or tell him any of his plans anymore. He doesn't seem to hold any of it against Mr. H but he refuses to confide in or rely on him. That turnaround feels really strong if you look at how much Joshua relied on him beforehand. Or if you view his impression of his assassination attempt as contingent on his trust of Mr. H.
The crumbs of information we get about Joshua and Hanekoma's relationship after the betrayal might seem sort of circumstantial. Joshua doesn't want to talk about his feelings for Neku in the secret ending. That carries over into A New Day, and seems to be about Neku. And then in NEO Joshua doesn't give any information to Mr. H for… unknowable NEO plot reasons. But there's something else between og TWEWY and NEO to suggest that Joshua doesn't trust Hanekoma with shit.
A New Day- Hanekoma (over the phone): If that kid is who I think he is, then he probably doesn't know a thing. If he's who YOU think he is, then he probably won't say a thing.
At first this reads fine because Joshua spent his week with Neku tight lipped and evasive as hell. But still, isn't it a little weird for Mr. H to be saying this? He tells Mr. H stuff, doesn't he? Not anymore! It feels like this Hanekoma is talking pretty universally despite having been the exception. But he doesn't know shit and he doesn't propose he can help them know shit if it's about Joshua. And maybe Coco's fake Shibuya has something to do with that, but it's hard to say.
Honestly, aside from gaining the perspective to not destroy a whole city (important), it's easy to look at this and wonder if Joshua came out of TWEWY worse off. And… yeah, NEO really doesn't seem to help that. But I'm going to end this off with some really vague NEO speculation.
What if it's REALLY just Hanekoma who doesn't know shit about Joshua now? It's probably impossible to know the extent of this, but for some reason Shiki and Beat seem to treat Joshua with a slight sense of familiarity now…? The fandom also (quite reasonably) assumes that the real final day of NEO is the first time Neku has seen Joshua since the final day of TWEWY but we don't actually know that. Some food for thought.

"It will be alright, Mini-moto..."
No context here. I needed some background texture, so I went to back these shapes. Maybe pretend they're glitches or something?
And where is his cap? Good question!

w2d5 lol. joshua finally gets cornered into unleashing his true power, with no apparent excuse prepared to tell neku, very obviously some kind of divine being whose cover has just been blown
then kariya shows up, makes a false assumption, and suddenly joshua has a golden opportunity. he can act like kariya has figured out his big secret in a huge plot twist moment. he can pretend kariya’s assumption is the truth because it’s something that comparatively looks a lot better for him.
way to go, kariya. you’re so smart and so dedicated finding out the truth behind the ug’s higher beings that you actually just totally covered for one of them by accident. this has to be the one time in the entire game that he’s wrong about something

2 3 10 12 13 for the ask game!
2. A headcanon you weren't sure about at first but have come to like! Ok this is hard to answer because I forget what's canon and what's intricately-woven-into-my-brain headcanon but I'll say the "Kariya was an Angel" theory! I never disliked it, but I never liked it more than the simpler explanation of "Oh he's just been around the block a couple of times, that's why he knows more than the average Reaper but still couldn't pick out Joshua as the Composer-that stuff's above his paygrade." Even now it's not "canon to me" level of headcanon, but I can see the appeal and really I appreciate anything that inspires people to look a littler closer at characters like Kariya or Uzuki. Also it's really good when played for comedy. His ass is showing up at the Angel convention, stealing as many appetizers as he can, and bouncing before anyone can point out that he got fired 30 years ago for skipping meetings to go play Tin Pin with random Wall Reapers.
3. A character that fandom has helped you appreciate It's too easy to say Coco so Beat! It's embarrassing to admit but I kinda had a bone to pick with him when I was first getting into the series for sorta "replacing Sho" in neo. I didn't think he was as interesting (and to be fair he really isn't in neo until you take his relation to Rindo's arc into consideration; he works wonderfully as a back for Rindo to hide behind even if his own story was very much concluded by the end of the first game. Then there's also his dynamic with Neku, which is very very good, but he didn't need to be a player character for that. Anyways). Beat analysis posting made me actually pay attention to him while replaying the games and realize how much I'd missed skimming over him in W2 (the poor guy's really gotta try to compete with fan darling Joshua and Sho, aka the loudest fucking man alive, for screen time). His stint as a Reaper is incredibly fascinating. I forget who, but I always distinctly remember someone talking about Beat getting prepped to try and deaden his heart and become as brutal and merciless as a Reaper is supposed to be before ultimately choosing kindness in both his siding with Neku and sparing Kariya and Uzuki in W3 and man.....yeah. He's just such a good guy. He's easily in the top 10 favs now, if not the top 5
10. A blog (mutual or one you follow) that has made your fandom experience brighter Well....yknow....
Tumblr media
There are a LOT of others and I'm too shy to tag but goldensunset (incredible analysis) playtwewy (fav fics ever) sho-minamimoto (awesome art + sho headcanons) dj-of-the-coven (made me love beat) purplelea (also incredible analysis) bitternami (very kind and wow I read a fic of yours once and it blew me away...I will remember to find it and leave a comment soon) leonvilasi (always leaves fun and interesting comments in my notes) off the top of my head and a whole bunch of people who aren't as active in the twewy fandom anymore or whose art I love and the people I always see leaving funny tags in my notes you're all awesome <3
12. Compliment someone else in your fandom AUGH HELL ON EARTH!!! dandelion2302 I absolutely adore the way you draw Sho your art is amazing.................
13. Your favorite type of fandom event (gift exchange, ship week, secret santa, prompt meme, etc) Yknow I've never actually done any fandom events before twewy! I had a blast during the twewybang and while I probably won't participate again for a while (I'd rather finish the fic I wrote for the 23 one first) it was a wonderful first experience with this sort of thing :]

Wings: Reapers, Pig Noise and Soul Pulvis
While playing around with ideas for my AU, I came across some interesting similarities between Reaper Wings and Soul Pulvis Wings.
We've seen both in the TWEWY and in the Animation that Minamimoto has had quite interesting wings. He has multiple pairs of wings. They can shatter or can gain a purple Taboo haze depending on the media. They're messed up in some way.
Even though Minamimoto isn't a Reaper in NEO, could our Chaotic Math Man have a new type of messed up wings as he continues to absorb dangerous birds?
Let's dive into that and see where that leads.

Shibuya Reaper Wings
First, let's take a look at a couple of Reaper Wings. We see some variations with the Shibuya Reapers.
Tumblr media
Since they are similar to bat wings, I'm going to try and use the same terminology where I can.
Tumblr media
Generally speaking, we have the Arm leading up to a central point called the Wrist where the Thumb(s) and Fingers can extend from. One outer Finger forms the outside edge of the wing and then multiple inner Fingers extend out from the Wrist and along the Arm. The Reaper wings also have a smaller extrusion right by the Thumb too, which can either be a second Thumb or another Finger. The Fingers extending downwards are connected by an Arc, which connects back to the Arm.
Coco's wings are smaller and more curvy while Kariya's are larger and sharper. Uzuki's are even larger, very rigid, and the inner Fingers don't all extend out from the Wrist, but along the Arm.
For the extra piece by the big Thumb, I'm leaning towards it being another Thumb, for theory crafting reasons way below. But if sticking with bat terminology, it would be another Finger I think.
Shinjuku Reapers
Tumblr media
We kinda get to see Shinjuku Reaper Wings. I did some Level Correction to see some of their wings better. (Mourn the variety. It's hoodies only in Shibuya, if you're not good enough, or something.)
Anyways, they generally follow Kariya's wing style.
Pig Noise
Tumblr media
In TWEWY, Pig Butoh (along with Polka and Tango, blue and red colour palette swaps) have Reaper like wings. In NEO, we have Pig Mambo (light) and Pig Bolero (dark). It's a little hard to tell but they appear to have the same wing shape as they do in TWEWY, just that they curl around in front. The overlap might make it look like it creates a "gap" like the wings like for the Pig Mambo (light).
Both the Reaper and Pig wings have a connecting Arc across the Fingers. However, the Pig Noise has an extra piece where the Arm connects to the body, not like the little Thumb or extra Finger by the big Thumb for Reaper Wings, and there is a circular cut or hole removed from the Thumb.
But in general, we can see that Reapers and Pig Noise have a similar structure to their wings.
Now let's get theory crafting!
Soul Pulvis
Tumblr media
So how are Soul Pulvis wings and Reaper wings related?
I stumbled on this by trying to make a Reaper Wing look a little more like a Soul Pulvis wing, and then made a Soul Pulvis wing look a little like a Reaper Wing. Added an additional step, modified the other stages and I got something like this:
Tumblr media
With that, we can see that the Soul Pulvis has a similar wing structure to the Reaper Wings:
Tumblr media
The fully connected inner Fingers in the Reaper Wing gets separated from the Wrist. One Finger moves down to where it would connect to the body, kinda like the Pig Noise or maybe like Uzuki's Wings. A star "eye" symbol appears in the gap between the Arm, outer Finger and Arc. The Arm and Thumb have shrunk. The second Thumb or other Finger by the old big Thumb has grown and now is curving in the opposite direction, away from the Thumb. We could say that the central Star Eye is part of the Fingers or is an entirely new thing.
So what does this mean?
Well, if we were able to see Minamimoto's Reaper wings during NEO (say if, an Angel could still see them), I think they could be at various stages of the above transformation. Maybe they would not reach the same design as the Soul Pulvis wings, but I think they would at least have gotten influenced by his bird snacking.
But that's not all.
There is something else that is similar to the Soul Pulvis and is linked to some Minamimoto:
Tumblr media
The open floating eyes that Felidae Cantus, Minamimoto from NEO's Another Day's Noise form, has. And it can be hard to tell, but there are Soul Pulvis flying circling around the fight, in addition to the mathematical formulas.
Tumblr media
Keeping the Soul Pulvis and the open floating eyes that Felidae Cantus has in mind, we can see similarities. Let's do another transformation to make it clearer:
Tumblr media
Most of the transformation occurs on the side closest to the body. There is a question of how the body side of the wing either grows another Finger or if the innermost Finger strengthens its attachment back to the other inner Fingers. But really they're not that different. And there are some similarities to the Reaper wings too. The tips of the Fingers are closer to the pointy Reaper wing spikes instead of the Soul Pulvis curves.
If the floating Eyes are not something separate, they could be Soul Pulvis wings that separated from their body.
This is why if we continue to use the same wing structure terminology, the Soul Pulvis and the floating Eyes that the extra bit near the Thumb, might be a second Thumb. Although, it could be that for Reaper-like wings that it would be a Finger, even though it's pointing in a different direction and isn't connected by an Arc.
So what does all of this mean?
Super theory crafting time! Let's consider everything so far:
Reaper Wings and Pig Noise Wings share similar wing structures.
Minamimoto in TWEWY and the Animation can have 2 additional pairs of wings compared to regular Reapers.
We've seen from TWEWY and the Animation that his (totally 100% normal) six wings can get messed up by shattering (TWEWY) or get a purple Taboo haze surround them (Animation). The Animation makes it clear that the haze is Taboo haze, which he gains once he gets very Taboo-ified.
Minamimoto has been consuming Soul Pulvis in NEO, so it may mess up his wings again.
There is a possible transformation from a Reaper Wing to a Soul Pulvis Wing.
Felidae Cantus has Soul Pulvis circling around their fight.
Soul Pulvis wings are very similar to the floating open Eyes that Felidae Cantus has.
Therefore, it is possible that our mainline NEO Minamimoto has messed up wings by absorbing the Soul Pulvis, and if Another Day Minamimoto is an even further Soul Pulvis infused Minamimoto - and if those floating Eyes are not something separate or a transformed/part of a Soul Pulvis - there is a possibility that the floating Eyes are his wings.
Now there are only 3 in the fight, which is not 2 or 6. But this is a different Minamimoto. Maybe his wing growth is in progress. Maybe he's learning and can't convert all his Wings into Eyes. Maybe he wants the fight to be fair(-ish). I dunno! But let's consider a Minamimoto who grew so skilled that he could turn his wings...Into weapons!
Anyways this was mostly an exercise in seeing how I could potentially mess up Minamimoto's Reaper wings and this is where it got me. If there is cool fan media of this or someone makes cool stuff based on this, feel free to send it my way cause I'd love to see it!

Wait...if death theory is true...Twewy x Milgram AU anyone? We already have canon duos...it could totally be done, the question really is what everyone's fee would be and what the circumstances of it are.
But like- Conductor Es!!! Conductor Es!!!!!!!
Uh putting down "Unable to Lie" as Kazui's fee right now btw, though honestly you could probably make a really good argument for either Yuno, Shidou or Amane for getting that fee. I don't want to double up on fees...hm...
I just hope someone else has played twewy I love that game so much-

mamiya theories/questions before i play DDD in full. spoilers for Falldown/Downfall / plus my own speculation
1) I'm still wondering if Yumehisa is Keito's Mamiya and it'd make a lot of sense bc his mamiya is invisible and doesn't have a body, and Yumehisa technically...doesn't either? 🤔 plus there has to be a reason Keito is dear to Yumehisa too and he wanted to save him (but couldn't). i haven't re-read samejima's side in DF (i should) so i forget if natsume makes a connection to invisible mamiya->samejima, but it doesn't really feel like it's him
2) I also once had the theory that Yumehisa was Minato's unborn twin that died/vanished (mentioned in Minato's DF), because of their visual similarities + in Minato's FD route, Yumehisa saying it's Minato who looks like him...Still wondering about this. UNLESS, Minato has...the body that was supposed to be Yumehisa's if he existed as a person? hm HM
3) Cause Yumehisa has many of the Spectator powers but he's something more than that, yet was he ever down on earth/living person who died and was chosen as Spectator? Did he never get a chance to exist in the "real" world thus existing only as a "subjectivity"...hence why he wants to create an illusion that's real so he can be real-real....HMM (i also vaguely wondered if mamiya=the creator but i think that'd be WILD....mamiya is god lol) (i mean) (it's not impossible) (a god who once wanted to help people/those dear to him and the results were catastrophic so he doesn't believe there's another way and in comes a spectator determine to save his friends no matter the odds...challenging everything...it'd remind me a lot of joshneku TWEWY if it was so).
4) BUT ALSO, WHOSE BODY DID PINK HOUSE EAT!! WAS IT NATSUME. WAS IT KEITO. WHO DID THEY VORE. cause in the cutscene that plays when yumehisa shows natsume what the pink house did, yumehisa is shown lying there for a moment (i think) so like hmmmmmmmm....unless they didn't actually eat anyone and it's part of the illusion (also the question is WHEN they decided to do this; if 2003 when keito died, it'd make sense, since he was very close to mamiya so...maybe...)
5) but natsume's death is also still a mystery! and the random bouts of him getting injuries while spectating in the library (the nosebleeds, the cuts) What does it Mean.
6) also the fact that keito and natsume were childhood friends makes me wonder, if keito knew mamiya yumehisa since then and if natsume...may have known yumehisa as well and doesn't remember? HMMMM!!!
7) ryou and keito like, in their FD routes, i think ryou not remembering anything in keito's and not recognizing the place means he went back to keito's time....and in ryou's, keito went to his. the question is HOW the time travel is happening (maybe has to do with 1999 and 2012 overlapping and thus, possible for characters to appear in either time...or at least these two in particular, GOING TO FIND EACH OHTER)
okay that's it for now i think GONNA PLAY. A LITTLE BIT BEFORE DINNER

Hello, hello!
Welcome to the blog, we're still around!
The main focus is Kingdom Hearts, including the mobile games, but we also take asks for TWEWY/NEO and FF15. As usual, it's yours truly -Mod Demyx- running things around here, feel free to use any pronouns and nicknames when addressing me, it's all chill!
If you'd like to follow me outside of this blog, here are my other accounts!
@jabberwockprince (main blog)
@jabberwockprinceart (art blog)
@vasito-de-leche (multifandom writing blog)
Tumblr media
I won't write: matchups, anything regarding rape or self-harm, pregnacy, explicit NSFW.
I will write: Yandere and other dark content, AUs (here's a little list of media I'm familiar with for specific AUs!), platonic and romantic interactions. Continuations of previous works, in-depth analysis of characters, etc. Basically, free real estate!
Feel free to ask if you're unsure about your prompt! Under the cut, you can find the full list of rules and masterlists!
Tumblr media
I.
Askbox will always remain open! You're all welcome to drop by for chitchat, to drop prompts, theories, heartcanons... And remember, this blog is not spoiler free! Asks are not answered in order, I generally go straight for those who catch my eye and delete those I don't want to reply.
II.
This blog takes requests for all KH games! But please, specify which version of the character you'd like for me to write, such as using their proper names (ie: Isa, instead of Saix) and from the specific game (ie: BbS Isa, KH3 Isa). Otherwise, I'll write for their most recent versions! You're also welcome to request for TWEWY/NEO TWEWY, plus Final Fantasy 15! I've decided to drop FF7 and it's remake due to lack of interest on those games from my part.
III.
Reader based prompts will always use gender neutral pronouns and be as vague as possible, so that everyone can feel included. The only exception to this are LGTBQ+ prompts (ie: Larxene comforting a dysphoric S/O, Sora reacting to you coming out as a lesbian, etc) Any requests asking for general female or male readers will be ignored and deleted!
IV.
When requesting a specific type of reader, please refrain from using characters from other media as reference (ie: a reader who acts like Nagito Komaeda from Danganronpa). I'm not in every fandom, nor I know every character ever, or what traits you're hoping to see - it's much easier if you describe exactly what you're looking for! Don't be afraid to send two asks if it's too long.
V.
You can request up to 6 characters per ask! The only exception to this is the Organization XIII, because I love them to death! The length of the post varies and depends on inspiration and number of characters!
VI.
You're free to send in your own [Heartcanons] - a cute term for KH headcanons about the game and characters. To diferentiate them from general chitchat, make sure to add [Heartcanon] at the beginning of the ask! These will be queued and post on Mondays, if there's any left around in the askbox! I also invite people to go feral discussing, rambling and even adding to our posts with your reblogs or in the replies! It's so fun to get together and talk about these blorbos!
Tumblr media
That's it for now! Rules might update as I see fit!
You're also welcome to translate my work if you'd like, with proper credit. Just don't repost it to different sites!

When Sora woke up in Scramble Crossing in the ending of KH3, it caused quite the stir among fans. After all, didn’t Neku show up in Dream Drop Distance? Fans wondered if a crossover was in the works, between Kingdom Hearts and The World Ends With You.
But was that the point? Or was the storyteller trying to tell us something else? After spending time with TWEWY and its sequel, I have theory. And it all boils down to the intent of the story. So, Sora wakes up in the same spot, and in the same way as Neku, only the time of day is different. Sora gets up and looks around, a look of shock on his features.
What Sora sees is just about the same as Neku, including the the most recognizable landmark: the 104 building. The only thing we know that is different in KH is that the world is called Quadratum instead of Shibuya.
That’s it, that’s the story, at least on Sora’s side of things. But why there? What is this place? And what does this mean for Sora? We don’t know, not yet. But looking at TWEWY could give us some clues.
Both Sora and Neku share the same creator, but that is not the only thing they share in the moment in question; What they value most has been taken from them.
Neku lost his memories and in turn, his sense of self. Sora lost his connections. Like Neku, he has no easy way of getting back home, nor regaining that what he lost.
This tracks with the aim of TWEWY’s Reaper’s Game. In order to enter the game, each player had to pay a fee, one of steep price: whatever they valued most. The point was test them and to encourage growth in each player. It could be then that this next story, KH4, will be a story with the same intent. One that tests Sora. Forces him to see things anew by removing that which he values most. And like Neku, Sora grows in the experience.

Have you seen the secret ending yet? 👀
I didn’t know what that was til you sent this, but NOW I HAVE
First of all, GORGEOUS ANIMATION. Second, Sora wakes up laying in a puddle in Scramble Crossing. The shallow water and mirror effect of the puddle(s) are similar to the salt flat-inspired Final World, the KH equivalent of purgatory… With the KH4 trailer having shown us that Sora wakes up 7 days after arriving in Quadratum, some part of him must still be asleep here.
7 days is the duration of a Reaper’s Game in TWEWY and since Neku also appears in Scramble Crossing after he dies, as well as this ending’s emphasis on the 104 building… maybe Sora has to deal with something like the Reaper’s Game to get a second chance at life. I doubt it’d be a direct crossover, but maybe. DDD does suggest Sora and Riku will meet up with their TWEWY pals eventually.
Sora’s side of this universe is golds, oranges, and reds, while Riku’s is silvers, purples, blues. Matching their character color schemes as well as their joint reality shift Keyblade. The first shot we see is the puddle reflecting a representation of these two sides. They stand across from each other, but they make up the whole puddle. They mirror each other as Riku and Sora’s characters do in this ending, but the puddle itself is also a mirror.
Tumblr media
And Sora’s side is the only one with puddles/reflections/mirrors. While they seem to be in the same universe, I don’t think Sora and Riku are in the same world or on the same dimensional plane. Maybe a parallel dream world situation like DDD, a mirror world like Toybox, but then, I’m getting a lot of CoM vibes, too… I also like how Sora wakes up in water, which has always represented darkness, with the camera angled at the ground, while Riku rises surrounded by bright light, with the camera angled at the sky. I just think the constant yinyang-ism of these two is neat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, something else that stood out to me is that one of the transitions from Sora’s side to Riku’s side is through this billboard that looks to be a PlayStation ad or some kind of gaming system. We go through the screen, similar to when Young Xehanort yeeted Sora into Verum Rex.
Tumblr media
And Riku has Yozora on his side, who we know is a video game character in the KH universe. Clearly, probably, Yozora is gonna be the link between Riku and Sora, since he’s like a fusion of their designs, color schemes, motifs. Man even has one red eye and one blue eye.
Tumblr media
But does that mean Riku’s in the Verum Rex video game that exists in the world Sora’s in, Quadratum, or is Verum Rex Quadratum? Is it a world you can go to in Quadratum like how you can go to Disney worlds in KH? Hmm.
Then we see a hooded figure in a black coat that I’m assuming is the Master of Masters making a heart in front of the moon — gee I wonder what that means! And I’m too lazy to find another pic, but MoM is in the same gold light part of the world that Sora is. Though like I said, in this ending, I’m pretty sure Sora’s not on the normal material plane yet. Not until he wakes up in KH4.
Ah, and then the theme is “Reconnect” and that could mean a couple things. The most obvious takeaway is Sora and Riku having to reconnect since they’re separated in this ending. But it could also mean reconnecting with the reality they come from… What I want to know is, MoM is originally interested in Quadratum because it’s a place neither light nor darkness is supposed to reach, right? But in this ending, we see his hands form the symbol for Kingdom Hearts. Why would he want to summon KH there?
My working theory right now — and I could be completely wrong — but my working theory is he wants to destroy Kingdom Hearts, rid the universe of darkness and light. Just based off of what we know about the MoM, he’s lived through multiple Keyblade wars so he’s seen the destructive influence light and darkness have had with their constant clashing, seems to understand light and dark cannot exist without each other, and was obsessed with reaching a world free of light and dark — a world he couldn’t even conceive… Maybe he gets to Quadratum and realizes he brought dark and light with him from the KH reality, thinks there’s nowhere he can go that light and dark can’t reach, and decides he’s going to destroy Kingdom Hearts, God, to liberate the universe, which would literally tear apart reality… And what he doesn’t realize is that so long as people continue to care and feel and have hearts, light and darkness, and thus Kingdom Hearts, will always exist. Cue shonen hero speech delivered by Sora and/or Riku about accepting the light and darkness inside of you instead of rejecting one or the other — because accepting the darkness is how Riku became immune to the corrupting influence of it (this is also where Xehanort went wrong wanting to create a new world of only light and Eraqus went wrong in his teachings believing darkness must be destroyed. One cannot exist without the other and both are necessary, reality depends on this duality). Cue epic boss fight.
But that’s just a theory! With some of Eraqus and Xehanort’s last words being about how it’s too late for their generation but not this one, before Xehanort hands Sora the X-blade, I think it would make sense to continue the theme of this generation understanding light and dark and how to create a brighter future better than the past generations did/do, which includes the MoM.

I’ve low-key seriously been considering making a TWEWY fan website on neocities to archive fanfic, theories, headcanons, artwork, and all that other good stuff. Don’t know if anyone would be interested in something like that, but as a programming fiend who’s obsessed with TWEWY right now, it’s a project I think I’d really like to take a shot at! If anybody has suggestions to make I’m open to hearing ideas.

The Librarian, Yoshiya "George" Kiryu!
A character who deeply believed in multiverse theory, and within TWEWY Final Remix we get to see more than one "Yoshiya", including one that matches 3's personality. And one Yoshiya was Neku's partner! Plus she has a feather in her cap, so I figured Yoshiya would be a good match for George.
