REVIEW /// TURNED TO STONE Chapter III: Wizzerd vs. Merlin Als großer Fan der Ripple Split-Serie musste ich natürlich auch den dritten Teil direkt kaufen. Saftige 34$ hat mich der 2x20 Minuten Spaß gekostet und ich muss leider sagen... für mich hat sich das Geld nicht gelohnt. Aber mal von vorne. Nachdem vor einiger Zeit die Fans drauf pochten, dass doch mal die beiden Magier-Bands im Rippel-Format gegeneinander antreten sollen, hätte niemand gedacht, dass die Schlacht schon auf Social Media beginnt. Denn bei jeder Gelegenheit bekämpften sich die beiden "Zauberer" mit Memes und bissigen Kommentaren, dass daraus ein regelrechter Hype um die Platte entstanden ist. Doch wie es mit Hypes oft so ist, sie werden den Erwartungen selten gerecht. Zur Musik: Die A Seite, mit dem 18:55 Minuten langen "We Are" von WIZZERD startet mit einem 3 Min. langen Akustik-Intro, welches von einem Standard-Groove Riff abgelöst wird. Nach ein paar Minuten kommt ein Solo und Hall-Vocals dazu. Im Anschluss gibt es ein repetierenden Zwischenteil, der ebenfalls in einem Solo und dem orientalischen Outro ala endet. Das warst. Die B Seite mit "Merlin's Bizzare Adventure" startet mit einem düsteren Orgel Intro, gepaart mit bedrohlichen Lyrics und einem 6 Min. Doom Part. Danach wird es schräg. MERLIN verwandelt sich in einen funkigen Discotänzer, der mit einer Hammond-Orgel bewaffnet versucht kauzigen Pop zu spielen. Aäähh... What!? Soll das ironisch sein? Denn so charmant ich die Idee auch finde ein musikalisches Meme zu gestalten, umso enttäuschender ist es als Hörer, für den Ulk 34$ ausgeben zu haben. FAZIT: TURNED TO STONE Chapter III: Wizzerd vs. Merlin bleibt leider hinter meinen Erwartungen und den Fähigkeiten der beiden Bands. Zu beliebig, zu albern und zu schwach produziert, lassen die beiden Songs die epische Schlacht der Magier zu einer Kissenschlacht avancieren. Schade.
