I notice on tumblr (well this is applicable to everything i think but i had certain tumblr discourses in mind rn) theres a way discourse is approached on here where there needs to be a solution that can be applicable to all situations on a given topic. I mean like theres a reliance on slippery slope fallacy (if we criticize this then that means u hate this/it will lead to gay people being illegal ect.) In that just trying to talk abt things, not finding a "solution" or anything just discussing and exploring the nuances of life, are discouraged and shut down instead of recognizing that not all things are like each other. Like i know ppl are trying to now do "x and y can both be true at the same time" but it feels more like just a tag-on rather than an approach for nuanced discussions, like a "yeah now there's two solutions to this topic and everything abt the topic can be divided into x or y."

Not me on my 3rd acc. Tho yall really help me stay clean. My partner started back in Novemberish maybe sooner. Right after our 4 y anniversary. And then she just dropped it on me. She knew i was trying to stay clean for her and i was doing such a good job. I only thought about it and would scroll here to "get my fix" its an addiction and i dont think ppl realize that. She brought my favorite drvgs into the house and hid it from me for months. Tho she doesnt even know i have a tumblr. Shes starting therapy now finally. And me too. I have an appt next week. I havent been since i was 12. Im scared. I dont trust therapists. I wish i could just cvt head to toe. All over everywhere. Id be exactly how i wanna be. I want this. But i cant. Gotta be around for my partner. Even tho she didnt want to for me. I told her if she wanted we could together but that we wouldnt be same ever again. I wish shed said yes but thats just jack. yeah so i've been thinking about this since the earliest days of blinkies.cafe. currently i have some obstacles.

manual work

at the moment, i personally have to add every new template to the generator. there's a bunch of manual work involved: choosing font, font colour, default text, text positioning, etc. it takes a bunch of trial and error to see what looks good.

when an artist submits a blinkie template, i want to make sure they're happy with the result. so it's a back-and-forth collaborative process. it takes a bit of technical knowledge on the part of the artist as well, to know what sorts of things i can & can't do.

i should streamline this process.

in the meantime, i'm already at capacity with adding templates >< i love doing it - it's like "comfort work" for me - but i also have a full-time job and chronic fatigue and chores and adhd, and a lot of the time i just don't have much time and/or energy to spare.

credits & licensing

if i'm gonna start accepting submissions from a bunch of different people, i need to draft like a "terms & conditions" statement for submitting.

basically to say, "by submitting your template, you agree to let me use it for X & release it under Y license. people will be able to make your blinkie say things, and i'm not responsible for what they say. here's how you'll be credited" kinda thing.

but idk much about art licensing and i know even less about writing legal text

also, different artists might have different opinions on how they want to be credited. the easiest thing for me to do would be to have the artist link pop up after you generate a blinkie and add it in the archive of sources. i'd say that in the terms & conditions, but ppl might want to be credited in a different way, and i can't have like a custom crediting method for each submission.

possible solution

one of my thousands of wips (thanks adhd) is a blinkie generator that runs entirely in the browser. if i can get around to polishing it up, i'll put it on blinkies.cafe, and you could embed it in your Neocities or even your tumblr theme.

basically you'd upload your template somewhere (tumblr, imgur, deviantart, whatever) as PNG frames, then you'd paste their URLs, select a font, type your text, and generate a blinkie!

it'd also give you a URL for your own personal blinkie maker, so you could post a link and other people could use it too ^^

this would be a lot easier for me to maintain because i wouldn't have to moderate or manually add templates at all!!

it'd also make it possible for anyone to run their own personal blinkie maker with their own templates, and host it on Tumblr or Neocities or anywhere else that lets you embed scripts :3

downsides to this are that A) browser-based gif generation might not work on all browsers or on older hardware, and B) personal templates wouldn't get the visibility of being on the main blinkies.cafe gallery.

i also wanna say, i remember looking up "seventeen x chubby reader", "svt x chubby reader", or smth along those lines on tumblr but just knowing almost nothing will pop up 💔. until i saw a little fanfic called "tiger stripes" and was baffled that someone actually wrote something that had someone like me in mind. i remember feeling and being so happy about it. just thank you for your svt x chubby reader works because u make us chubby carats feel so seen 🫶🏼 - 🐱 anon

redacting the guy + the tag from your ask purely to try and avoid anyone tracking down the writer by any means! i trust my followers to not do something like that, but i'd feel better reducing that risk in any way <3

oh yikes! i think like... its worth it to sometimes address fatphobia in writing, but that kind of stuff 100% needs a warning! one of my current fic ideas involves a reader who is confident in her body but kinda relapses back to a previous mindset of 'maybe i Should be ashamed of it' after being fully insulted for being a bigger gal and the fic would absolutely have a warning.

i do agree that you def do not have to be a bigger person to write chubby/fat reader fics, but its definitely something you need to be mindful of when you wanna handle the heavier topics. im always happy to weigh in with my own thoughts + experiences, and im sure other people would be, too! no shame in trying to address it in themes/plot, but there's def a difference between endorsing those ideas and discussing them (and i'll say i have no idea which was being done in this fic)

Hello, friend! Apologies for bothering you but I had a quick fanfic question and you seem like a friendly person to go to!

So, I just got into writing, but I'm a longtime reader. *However* most of the fics I've read come from AO3, not tumblr. So I'm not "knowledgeable" on how to post work on here, so to speak.

That being said, what are the appropriate tags I should make for a fic? Also, how in the fuck do I make a banner?! I've tried making one for a previous work but I just think it's the wrong size?!?

hello hello!!! i'm honored u decided to come ask me aww 🥺🥺 i will do my best to respond!! (keep in mind tht there rly arent any set technicalities to this, it's just what i do!!)

so of course tag the relationship first i would say. im gna use bkg as an example lmaooo so like 'bakugou x reader'. use both his first name and full name in separate tags (bkg katsuki x reader, katsuki x reader) bc you never know how people will look up certain tags. and since people spell his last name differently also tag that. i think there's a thing where ur post appears in only the first 5 tags u use??? but im not sure if thats legit. id still be wary.

i personally wouldnt tag an x reader fic as simply 'bnha' or anything bc like... the x reader niche is pretty mmm small n unique and i dont think ppl who arent into it wanna see y/n fics in the mha tag LOL but thats just me. keep it to the x reader tags or whatever fic youre writing, be it ship fic or whatevr, it's the same process.

u could also tag it as like 'bakugou imagine' or 'bakugou fluff' or smthn. and you can also create a unique tag for specifically your writing so that people can easily look it up instead of hunting for a masterlist! like you can do, idk '__ writings'. makes it easier when theyre on your blog since they can search for its content

in the case of x reader fics, i'd also use 'bkg x y/n' or 'bkg x you' bc again, never know how people will search for smthn.

and make sure you tag any TWs too! for instance, 'tw blood' or 'cw blood'. its good to use both for people who have the tags blocked!! i also find its nice to insert warnings/mentions at the top of your post! like if the reader is fem or gn, if its an AU, any TWs, if its fluff/angst/hurt, the pairing, anything you can think of that you blv readers will want to know abt! maybe add a short summary or a lil snippet.

so. banners. i personally use canva bc its free<3 my banners are 3000 x 1055 px! ive found tht it works p well. you could probably increase the height more, up to u. just fiddle around with the sizing! the lil dividers are typically 3000 x 40 px for me, but only bc i think 40 is the smallest canva can go lol

hey, im a new writer. can u give out some tips for writers who just started writing fics

hi! yes ofc!

when i first started writing, i kinda had one goal —> write the type of fics that i would want to read. i think that’s really important when you start writing. it keeps you going and it keeps your motivation up for writing. i think that’s the main thing when it comes to all writers.

as for actual writing tips. i would say stick to third or second person. first person kind of loses its touch now a days, especially on tumblr. it might be an aesthetic thing, but for me personally, i connect better with fics in those povs.

also try to avoid using the same words repeatedly. i read my fics out loud to myself to see how certain lines sound, and if something doesn’t sound right, i change it. there’s always an alternative way to say something if you ever find that you don’t like what you’ve written.

i would say maybe start small, with a blurb or two and get a feel for it. my very first fic on here was a silly little blurb about peter parker and y/n picking a baby name.

and also, never take yourself too seriously. at the end of the day, while i do sometimes get frustrated with the amount of notes i get, i have to remember that i’m writing for myself. nobody goes back to my masterlist and rereads things as much as i do. bc like i said, i write the type of fics that i wanna read. maybe it’s a little selfish, but my writing is tailored for me and it always will be. never ever will i write a fic that i don’t like and is purely for someone else’s enjoyment. i want ppl to read my work and enjoy it ofc, but in the end, it’s all for me.

So this has been a Fun couple of months.

A little over a month ago, half the people at work got laid off. Including me. We recently lost our biggest client so the unspoken threat of layoffs was in the air but tbh i thought i was safe. I was one of only 2 ppl left on a very specialized team and i had been there years longer. Surprise! 😡

Then getting my severance was a mini nightmare. Finally got it and it was like half of what i was told, bc it got torn to shreds by taxes before i even got it.

Then abt a week ago i found out a close online friend died. I hadn’t known him v long, probably only a couple years tops, but we played overwatch together several times a week and i chatted w him in discord every day. So it hit me harder than i expected.

A little light at the end of the tunnel, though: i applied to a job last week and just found out yesterday that i got it. But yeah. Rough 2 months.
