Round 1: zan-Nate (Intro)

You know that feeling when it’s nearly sunrise on New Year’s Day and the whole tribe is getting ready to burn the demons of the old year away, then the next thing you know your entire village is hurled back to the tail-end of the prehistoric era by an angry god of greed and deception, who then announces that the ancient tyrannical empire that, in this time, is almost at the point of being founded, will be your people’s creation, before storming off and sealing the portal and leaving everyone wondering if it’s true, false, a double bluff, or will become a self-fulfilling prophecy?

And in times like that, there’s only one place they’re likely to turn to: the one who speaks for (most of) the Spirit World, shaman Mari zan-Nate. So it stands to reason that this Test of Time should introduce Mari’s household first.

Mari (ve/vir) is twenty-five starbands old, which is actually pretty impressive in the high-turnover career path of Nuidya shamanism. Three apprentices (who also use ve/vir pronouns, like most shamans in KS) live with vir as adopted members of the zan-Nate clan.

Vinya “zan-Shola” - who everyone seems to agree is not a zan-Shola at all, but rather some kind of fae changeling - is the youngest apprentice, stood next to Mari gawking at nothing in the above picture. As the only apprentice with innate magic, Mari has high expectations for Vinya, which Vinya isn’t convinced ve can live up to.

The eldest of the trio, Tiozura zan-Zade, is a survivor of two time rages and, like Vinya, figures that if weird stuff is going to keep happening around vir then ve might as well study shamanism - and, hopefully, learn to keep it in check. I have no idea what ve’s winking at.

Finally, there’s Luyisula zan-Avira. The only AMAB member of the group, Sula took the apprenticeship with Mari due to being unhappy identifying as a boy... and as a girl... and ve’s still not really feeling the rakare (the gender identity of most shamans in KS, literally ”ancient soul”) thing. Sula both hopes that delving into the Spirit World will help clear things up, and fears what the answer might be.

A little about the fate of the unfortunate prisoners and hostages. Prisoners as inconvenient to the authorities as Bianca Melek-Taito-Arias do not live long. After their fight with Titus, the girl died suddenly. To what extent the two events were connected, no one had time to understand. Just a day later all the prisoners, including the hunters, were released. The official story was that it was time for Shanli Jano to enter the gymnasium, and that Titus and Valentine were going to have a baby. They wanted to keep the Sins in jail longer, but Shanli said he intended to marry Okani. So they let Okuto go along with her. The young men did marry once they were out of prison, and became infatuated with each other. The kind Okani gave Valentina a new silk robe to wear during her pregnancy.

another test of time-oriented download! this would be mammut's early civ living for the sims 4, converted to the sims 2. it works best for the roman era, i think, but you can use it in other eras and it would probably fit in as well 😊

everything has been compressed and there are 4 items in total. to reduce the amount of files, the coffeetable is repo'd to the bench. hope you guys find uses for these in your game! ♥

I've been building the ancient houses, mostly trying to replicate what I did before in my old hood. I might have gone a bit overboard with the bathhouse. It has a mini clothing store (because as per the rules of the challenge you need a clothing store and I couldn't be bothered to have it on a separate lot), a sauna, hot springs, swimming pools, and hot tubs. I didn't put any bars or massage tables in it though... for now. The plebeian houses should really be apartments but it's more convenient for me to make them into regular lots.

Here is the ranking of the original families I revisited just to double check their standing. Below there is a short summary of each:

Bruni - 122.000$ - no surprises here, the most kids mean you are going to become emperors in this challenge. This family's firstborn son is already dead but he has 2 children. He also has a brother. So it will be interesting to see who will become the emperor of the next generation, because for now it's the patriarch, one of the founders. #bruni

Tia - 113.000$ - patricians - this family consists of the patriarch, his son and 3 grandchildren. The heir's sister is deceased by now, but she was married to the heir to the throne so she'd be the queen mother of the next emperor. Lovi is running away to get married abroad as soon as she can, but that's fine because she has a younger sister and a brother. This family definitely already has connections to the ruling household, and they also have some connections to the occult. #tia

Imago - 105.000$ - patricians - this family consists of a patriarch and his son's family - wife and one child [for now]. Sadly the heir's twin sister is already deceased (she married into the Tia family and had 3 children). #imago

Orange - 60.000$ - plebeians - a family of a father, his son, and grandson (sadly moms died in childbirth due to unfortunate rolls). They have one puppy they acquired from the Wolfens. Because the heir of this family got married in the previous era, they have a connection to the royal family. Damu Orange married Tefnut Bruni (one of the to-be-princesses). The patriarch of this family is a bit of a Casanova. He's been romancing hobby instructors after his wife's passing. #orange

Wolfen - 44.000$ - plebeians - this is the family of the father and son who have got a ton of wolf puppies. The heir wants to get married rich, but I don't know how rich of a spouse he can get. I would have to check if any of the Asian sims count as rich. #wolfen

So who is going to be the servants? I think I'll do what I've done before and if I need to, I'll make them in CAS. I know you are supposed to have servants in the wealthier households, but I didn't always do this, because these households are so big... I also have a 'bonehilda' (spectral assistant - I use a default replacement and a summoner object - careful with this one, I think it creates an NPC but I'm fine with that).

I’ve got to rebuild again... ugh, mod conflicts and resets suck. For my first Kulo Seeri rebuild of 2023, though, I’m trying something different: turning KS’ frontier subhood into its own main hood in a separate save folder, and converting Kulo Seeri proper into a heavily modified Test of Time challenge. Story posts from it will live on my Dreamwidth and be linked here.

Obviously, I’ve changed most of the details regarding what the eras represent, I’m reversing the gender-based restrictions, and I’m ignoring the CAS sim guidelines (I have seven already established clans) and anything in the original rules related to genetics. I do have one slight problem though... (cut for personal issue impacting my game)

I still don’t know what I want to do about male sims. I will definitely keep them, but I’m unsure how my variant ruleset will treat them. It’s not in my nature to be harsh or repressive, but - even though the last fifteen months have seen me overcoming a lot of my PTSD - I still can’t play out any situation in which a male sim has power/authority over a female sim, and I still occasionally want to get back at/spite the male classmates and teachers who literally tortured me at school.

Basically I’m torn between the core gentle, caring nature that wants my game to be a safe place to escape to with as few unnecessary restrictions as possible, and the less than pleasant side of me that wants my game to be a revenge fantasy and says that keeping male sims down is a necessary restriction, which is not how I want to think at all. I don’t know... I just want a peaceful escapist hood but my inner demons still won’t let me... help?

Nehorai:  “Well but if you outsmarted them with your horse costume isn’t it more like winning them?  It costs a lot less to make a horse costume than buying real horses.  It just makes sense, Mom.”

Gandu:  “Birdie, I’ve got this.  Nehorai, you’re going to learn as you get older that just because you can outsmart some other sims doesn’t mean you should.”

Junia:  “Exactly, it’s not resp- ”

hello! recently there has been a MASSIVE rise in popularity for the test of time challenge over on the simscord, and i got roped in to make stuff for everyone, because, well... let's just say there isn't an awful lot of cc for non-medieval or non-modern sims in ts2. so, yeah. have 4 historical hats converted specifically for the early stages of the challenge!

this set includes: - valhallan fortnite flower crown - valhallan dbd babylon plague mask - vintagesimstress bearserker hat - zx-ta tsm fox hat

everything has been compressed and tooltipped, all of the hats have preview included, and are usually for more than just one life stage! wow! if there are any issues with these, kindly let me know 💕

On an off topic note, I bless the "no unlink on delete" mod, it was definitely a worth download, because my DUMB DUMB ass just demolished every old lot WITH THE GRAVES ON THEM.... I know I can recover them, so eventually I want to do that. As soon as I get the families sorted and their daily lives can resume.
