Meraki Year 1, Day 9 (Autumn 3rd) Summary
Sometimes pictures say a thousand words... and sometimes you just need to say a couple hundred more anyway.
* The major happening of the day was, of course, the unfortunately under-photographed joint community lot birthday party of Meraki’s five oldest native (non-supernatural) denizens, organized by Lehabim of the Golden Eyes (with inspiration from Dan O’Dubhghaill.  Darah and Hasrah of the Icicle Eyes, Japhia of the Green Eyes, Linus of the Brown Eyes, and Nehorai of the Sapphire Eyes aged up from toddlers to children.
* Dan is bored.  If you are too, you are in good(...?) company.  The very good news is that I have made an executive decision to start posting entire seasons at once, using roughly (hopefully) the same amount of posts as I’ve been using for each day, starting with the winter.  I have loved getting to know all my sims so well, but, like, these toddlers were toddlers for literally two years, and I’m like... my actual toddler is almost two; let’s get on with it or he’s going to have kids before they do.
* Notably, Darah and Nehorai had not finished learning to talk, so I did have to devise the penalty system after all.  For talking, I decided to do a coinflip between Shy and Inappropriate as penalty traits.  Darah flipped Shy and Nehorai, Inappropriate.  (Incidentally, he is also naturally shy by birth - only 2 outgoing points.)  For failing to learn to walk, it will be a coin flip between Clumsy and Couch Potato.  And failing to potty train will be guaranteed Slob!
* Stachia of the Icicle Eyes, Nadii’ya of the Brown Eyes, and Saphir of the Golden Eyes returned from their overnight trip to the Meadow.  They brought back lots of deer, boar, herbs, and fruit to divvy up amongst the village.  It was not divided equally, but everybody definitely got something.
* Junia of the Sapphire Eyes got promoted to Level 4 of the Neolithic Trader career, Livestock Trader.  This unlocks catalog purchase and sale of pretty much any Barnyard Bash animal.  (Yay!)  This also makes Junia the furthest along in any career path, aka, closest to advancing us out of the Neolithic Era.
*  I can state with a reasonable amount of confidence that bread is, in fact, on the way.

Lehabim:  “Thanks again - ”
Dan:  “Spare me the pleasantries.  Next time, come up with something actually interesting for me to do, and then I might stick around for a friendly chat.”

Junia:  “... and so, now that I can trade horses, we’re going to start seeing a lot of things improving around this cave.  We might even get out of the cave and into a real house before you know it!”
Gandu:  “Yes, and I’ll build it!  That would be incredible!”
Tumblr media
Nehorai:  “Mom, what if you make a fake horse costume and go to one of the villages you trade with and gather up all their real horses at night after everybody’s asleep and bring them home?”
Junia:  “Uh, well, that’s called ‘stealing,’ Nehorai.  And it’s not a good thing to do.”
Tumblr media
Nehorai:  “Well but if you outsmarted them with your horse costume isn’t it more like winning them?  It costs a lot less to make a horse costume than buying real horses.  It just makes sense, Mom.”
Junia:  “What - ?”
Gandu:  “Birdie, I’ve got this.  Nehorai, you’re going to learn as you get older that just because you can outsmart some other sims doesn’t mean you should.”
Junia:  “Exactly, it’s not resp- ”
Gandu:  “Sometimes they fight back, and it ends up being more trouble than it was worth.”
Junia:  “That’s not - !”

Stachia:  “Cubs!  Meat tubes!”
Tumblr media
Darah:  “Mommy, you know how Mr. Lehabim stood up at the beginning of the party and made that big long announcement?”
Stachia:  “Yes, Cub, why?”
Darah:  “Well, I was wondering what he meant.”
Stachia:  “Oh, well, he meant that it’s important when sims live in a community that they act like a community - share important events with each other, to help bind us together.”
Darah:  “But there’s so few of us.  Why do we need help binding together?”
Stachia:  “That’s a long story, Dar.  The Mommy’s-tired-and-hungry-so-you-get-the-short-version version is, all the mommies and daddies in Meraki were born in other places, different communities all over simulated creation, and found each other and came here to start a new community.  So Mr. Lehabim was reminding us that whatever our traditions used to be, we’re all Merakians now, so we should, uh, do our own thing, as the case may be.”

Stachia:  Where are the girls?

Hasrah:  “I want to visit the stars one day.  All of them.  As many as I can!”
Darah:  “Well, I want to ride on a shooting star and then I can get between the stars really really fast and then I’ll see more stars than you!”
Hasrah:  “Nuh-uh!  That’s cheating!”
Darah:  “It is?”
Hasrah:  “OB-viously.”

Hasrah:  “Sissy!!  We made it!   Ooooh, I love your hair in braids like that, will you do mine sometime??  Pretty please?  Oh, I can’t wait to go hiking together tomorrow, we finally get to explore the forest!  What do you want to see first, the waterfall, or maybe we could go looking for Dan’s Hollow!!  What do you think, Sissy?”
Darah:  “Okay, Sissy!”

Gandu:  [mumbly]  “Salt, mysterious substance in a mysterious bottle... fish, obviously... why do I feel like I’m forgetting something?”
Gandu:
Gandu:  “Obviously there’s nothing else.  Come on, fishies, let’s get you to the grill.”
Tumblr media
Gandu:  “Wait, did I actually put the salt on the fish?”
Gandu:
Gandu:  “Yeah, no, obviously.  Is this what Tobiah feels like all the time?  Ogre farts, that’d be terrible.  I really need to get some sleep.”
Gandu:  “Stop talking to yourself, Gandu.  Get grilling.”

Hasrah of the Icicle Eyes is beginning to channel her natural charisma into a newfound sense of ambition.  Her playful, gregarious, energetic spirit is bound to make her the ringleader of this batch of kids, if not the whole village one distant day.  Like her mother, though, she’d really prefer if someone else cleans up her messes.
Darah of the Icicle Eyes is as shy as her twin is sociable - but she doesn’t mind, she’d just as soon spend the day running through the woods making up games in her head or planning the treehouse she can put her natural handiness to use building than playing with the other kids inside the village-limits.
Nehorai of the Sapphire Eyes has spent so much of his young life watching his dad build things that the tinkering bug has bit him, too.  And it’s a good thing - since his mother’s recent misfortune at work is going to squeeze the family finances, Nehri is developing a keen sense for the value of a simoleon, and is going to be pretty frugal for the rest of his life.  All in all, he’s a sweet but serious kid, though he can be a little inappropriate at times.  While he’s never quite sure what it is about what he said that made everyone so uncomfortable, he’s picking up quickly that maybe he should try and keep his mouth shut more often than not.
Tumblr media
Linus of the Brown Eyes is the apple of his mama’s eye, and he hasn’t fallen far from her tree, either.  Like Nadii’ya, Linus is dramatic, easily impressed, and a big fan of the cuisinal arts.  A nice, outgoing kid, he’s excited to make better friends with Hasrah, his best toddler pal, and the rest of the first-borns crew.
Tumblr media
Japhia of the Green Eyes is also easily impressed, which is probably why she was so enthusiastic about her dad’s silly budderflies song... even though, as a night owl, she is perfectly happy singing the original words to that tune.  Like many a kid, she’s bubbly, kind, and loves to play games, but she’s also a borderline couch potato so don’t expect to see her in the village tag tournament anytime soon.

Junia:  “Nehorai, my big kid!  Look at you!”
Nehorai:  “Mom.  You just got back?  Just now?”
Junia:  “Yes, there goes the horse, silly goose.  How was your birthday?”
Nehorai:  “Mr. Lehabim threw me a birthday party at the Fishin’ Hole.  Well, me and the other kids who spun up today.  Mr. Lehabim wanted to make sure we felt special and the whole village has its own trer-ditions.  Together.”
Tumblr media
Junia:  “That sounds so fun!  I’m sorry I had to miss it, Nehri, but I’m glad it was a good night!”
Nehorai:  [gasping]  “Mom!  Let go!”

Tobiah:  “Hey, before you go, I did have another question about the meadow.  While you all were there, did you see anything that would make you think, you know, that Stachia would make a good ruler over the village?”
Nadii’ya:  “Why in all of simulated creation are you asking me that?”
Tobiah:  “Well, cuz I know she and Lehabim keep trying to convince everyone to back them, and if we’re all going to move forward together, maybe we should sorta, you know, figure out which one of them we support, and see what we can do about getting the others on board?  So this doesn’t cause divisions down the road, like back home...”
Tumblr media
Nadii’ya:  “You know my feelings on this, babe.  Meraki has no king.  Meraki needs no king.  We’re all just sims, equal to one another.  I’m not about to let someone start telling me what to do or not do, where we can or can’t go.”
Tobiah:  “But they both - ”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nadii’ya:  “Alright, to answer your question, no.  I saw the opposite.  I saw someone who was trying to order other sims around without being willing to get her hands dirty herself.  Saphir and I were setting up the camp, gathering firewood for the night, and there Stachia was, just watching the birds and ignoring all the actual work.  Getting her to even pick berries was like pulling teeth.  So no.  I don’t think I’d be willing to back Stachia as our leader.  It’s mind-boggling to me that you’re seriously considering letting anyone be our leader, but no, definitely not her.”

Gaia:  “Bah?”
Noel:  “Stay put a tick, love.  I’m just going to the fire, I’ll be riiiiiight back, I promise.”

Kimba:  “...and what a reintroduction to the community!  I haven’t talked to a single sim outside my own cave in days!  But having a party like this, I feel like every single one of us is so close now.  And to think, such a short while ago we were all lost strangers.”
Tumblr media
Pallu:  “You know, I haven’t actually had time to think about it.  But you’re right.  Huh.  I’m glad you got out of bed today.”
