Actually, have some European Portuguese (or Portuguese from Portugal) idioms and expressions that I love. (Some might also be used in Brazil. Others definitely are not)

1. Category: Expressions that exist because of the Lisbon Earthquake of 1755 (yes there's more than one in this category. No, we're not all 200+ years old but we still reference that earthquake every day)

Rés vés Campo de Ourique - It means that something didn't happen by an inch. This was because after the earthquake the Tsunami almost got to Campo de Ourique, a neighbourhood in Lisbon.

Caiu o Cabo e a Trindade - This means everything is going wrong. It comes from the fact that the earthquake destroyed two convents, Carmo and Trindade.

2. Expressions to say "Go annoy someone else" or just "Fuck off". There's a lot of these.

Vai chatear o Camões - Literally means "Go annoy Camões". Camões is a very well known poet and writer from the XVI century. It's a joke about saying to go annoy somebody who's dead.

Vai ver se estou na esquina - literally "go see if I'm in the corner".

Vai dar a volta ao bilhar grande - literally "go round the big billiard (table?)". Beautiful.

Vai tomar banho - literally "go take a bath"

3. Who the fuck thought of these???

Rebeubéu, pardais ao ninho - it means that there's a commotion and/or a lot of noise. To translate this literally is difficult because Rebeubéu is barely a word but it means something like "(onomatopoeia that means lots of noise) sparrows to the nest".

Montou-se ali um 31 - means the same as the last expression. Literally "A 31 was set up there". You can technically make your own expression with 31 and it will mean the same thing - chaos. Now the question is: What in the world is a 31? Well, until today I also didn't know. It's allegedly a card game.

Nasceu com o rabo virado para a lua - means that someone got lucky even when they did not deserve it. They got what they wanted but didn't do anything to get it. Literally "they were born with the butt turned to the moon".

Cu de Judas - It means far away and/or in a place difficult to find. Literally "Ass of Judas"... Ass in butt. This expression is used all the time.

4. Snork mimi 💤

Vou bater chocolate - literally "I'm going to whisk chocolate"

Vou para o vale dos lençóis (probably my favourite expression that I use all the time because the mental image is amazing) - literally "I'm going to the bedsheet valley"

Vou fazer oó - oó is an onomatopoeia for sleeping. Only used with babies or jokingly.

Vou nanar - technically it means "I'm going to sleep" as nanar is another verb for sleep but I wanted to include it because it's something that you will only hear said in familial situations. It's not informal in the street sense it's just that it's a sweet way to say sleep that it's just not said by anyone else besides your mum when she wants to ask if you're sleepy and want to go to bed. It's cute :)

5. The origin of this one is more interesting than the expression itself

Primeiro estranha-se depois entranha-se - it means that you might not like something at first but you'll start enjoying it with time. Literally means "First you find it's odd afterwards it's engrained". So, this was actually thought by Fernando Pessoa, also one of the most well known portuguese poets and writers. He died in 1937. Anyway, for this wasn't a title of a book or something. He wrote this for a fucking Coca-Cola commercial. Cursed information.

6. ???

Quem anda à chuva, molha-se - literally "Who's in the rain gets wet". It means "WHEN WILL YOU LEARN?! WHEN WILL YOU LEARN, THAT YOUR ACTIONS, HAVE CONSEQUENCES?!?!?!"

Pão, pão, queijo, queijo - literally "bred, bred, cheese, cheese", which is beautiful. It means "Exactly what I just said", "It means just that"

São coisas do arco-da-velha. Literally "It's stuff from the rainbow". It means whatever happen was unbelievable. In the good or bad sense. The most common way of saying rainbow in Portuguese is arco-íris but arco-da-velha is s synonym less used. Galicia still uses it a lot though.

Feito ao bife - (Used all the time!!!) Literally "done at the steak". It means you're fucked lol (aka you were busted and are in big trouble)

Lula's government is criticized for creating an area for therapeutic communities after pressure from Brazilian religious entities

Responding to requests from religious entities, the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers' Party) government created a specific sector for therapeutic communities aimed at treating drug addicts, structures encouraged by the Jair Bolsonaro (Liberal Party) administration.

The creation of the Department of Support for Therapeutic Communities, published on January 20th 2022, raises criticism from human rights organizations contrary to the sheltering of drug addicts generally based on isolation, abstinence, and religiosity. To circumvent the pressures, the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family, and Fight against Hunger went on to say that the sector is under review.

One of the solutions evaluated by the government is to change the cabinet's name to reinforce the discourse that it does not serve only therapeutic communities, say members of the government who follow the discussion.

The department was not part of the initial structure of the new ministry. The area was created by decree published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette three days after the team of Minister Wellington Dias (Workers' Party) received representatives from the treatment centers. The group had been complaining about the extinction of Senapred (National Secretariat for Care and Prevention of Drugs), focused on dialogue with communities during the Bolsonaro government.

Confenact (National Confederation of Therapeutic Communities) participated in the meeting with the new government. During the elections, the confederation published an image of Bolsonaro on social networks, in addition to messages from members advocating voting for candidates against drugs, abortion, and "gender ideology".

The confederation told the report that it supports public policies and governments that adopt as a strategy "the non-liberation of drugs, the non-decriminalization of marijuana or any other illicit drug, the defense of Christian principles and values, abstinence as a prevention and treatment strategy, spirituality, [and] the work of third sector entities".

On Tuesday (24), the National Council for Human Rights (which brings together representatives of civil society and public power) cited the creation of the department and recommended that the Lula government audit all contracts signed with therapeutic communities in the past administration, in addition to the cancellation of partnerships with entities that receive teenagers.

The council also suggested to the Ministry of Health the creation of a program "aiming at the effective replacement of therapeutic communities by territorial mental health strategies and services".

Federal funding for these structures has exploded in recent years. It went from R$44 million in 2017 to around R$ 100 million [~US$ 19.41 million] in 2019, according to a survey by Conectas, an NGO dedicated to human rights.

The 2023 Budget has R$ 272 million [~US$ 52.79 million] reserved for "drug demand reduction". This budgetary action primarily serves these communities.

A 2020 survey by Folha de S.Paulo showed that 74% of therapeutic communities that received federal funding were religious in origin.

Treatment sites still have strong support from Congress. Of the amount reserved for this year, R$ 75 million [~US$ 14.56 million] are from individual amendments by parliamentarians, a number higher than the R$ 45 million [~US$ 8.73 million] indicated by deputies and senators in 2022.

The bet on therapeutic communities is resisted by members of the Lula government and the left.

The health transition group, of which Minister Nísia Trindade was a member, suggested in the final report the immediate repeal of government regulations linked to these entities. The human rights group also recommended reviewing the Bolsonaro government's policies on the topic.

The previous management even used BRL 24.5 million [~US$ 4.75 million] leftovers from Bolsa Família to cover expenses with these communities, as revealed by Folha de S. Paulo.

The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), stated in one of the first speeches after taking office that he intends to increase vacancies in therapeutic communities. For Gabriel Sampaio, director of Conectas, inspection of these treatment centers should be carried out by the Ministry of Health and follow SUS (Brazil's unified public healthcare system) standards, in addition to national and international regulations on human rights.

He also claims that there is a high volume of public resources destined to communities with little control over the works.

Confenact said that there are more than 2,000 therapeutic communities in Brazil and that this type of structure is one of the treatment alternatives for people with dependence on alcohol and other drugs. They also said that the effectiveness of reception is scientifically proven.

"Involuntary admissions are not among the characteristics of therapeutic communities, whether in the legal, technical, nor in the scope of current regulations.", stated the confederation.

Representative of Renila (National Inter-nuclei Network of the Anti-Asylum Fight), a group that criticizes the creation of the department, psychologist and psychiatrist Miriam Abou-Yd said that the therapeutic community is one of the impasses that surround the Lula government.

She claims that inspections carried out in these spaces find "restriction of the right to come and go, imposition of creed", in addition to the performance of unqualified professionals and the work of inmates, in situations "similar to slave labor".

"It is the most faithful photograph of the use of the suffering and the body of the other, always in the name of faith, but generating profit for ambitious, voracious and ruthless entrepreneurs", said Miriam.

Sought, the Ministry of Development said only that "the decree is being reviewed". The cabinet did not say how much should be passed on to therapeutic communities in 2023 and who will lead the new department.

Roberto Carlos Biography by Alvaro Neder

Best-selling Brazilian singer/songwriter Roberto Carlos is known as "the King of Latin Music." He has sold over 120 million records globally, and with his partner and co-writer, Erasmo Carlos, he has penned over three dozen Top Ten charting singles. Still active and successful in the 21st century, he initiated a major revolution in Brazilian music during the 1960s thanks to his fusion of Anglo-styled pop and rock and the second wave of Brazilian samba. His initial success coincided with the emergent youth movement in pop (started by the Beatles) that took over the world. Carlos was the leader of the country's Jovem Guarda. He was the host of the TV show that became a generic denomination of a musical style and what was a definitive change of face to the Brazilian phonographic market and of the very art of marketing itself (with the advent of an aggressive merchandising of the Jovem Guarda's top figures, including films, clothes, and more), encompassing deep behavioral/gestural/language influences widespread through his entire generation. His light music, derived from British pop, and his (and Erasmo Carlos') lyrics (happy, humorous, full of fashionable youth slang, and naïve though unexpectedly sexual) were deeply contrasting to the more serious MPB, with its somber images and protest songs. A few years later, in the late '60s, Carlos (counseled by his advisors) changed his style to become the most successful romantic artist in Brazil. Having written (always with Erasmo Carlos) some of the most beautiful songs in this style (such as "Detalhes," "Sua Estupidez," "Jesus Cristo," and "Debaixo dos Caracóis dos Seus Cabelos"), Carlos accumulated virtually all possible accomplishments as a highly successful artist, including a solid international career with awards like the Grammy and top positions on Billboard's Latin charts. Though the adherence to a worn-out sentimental formula proved to be effective in commercial terms, it ultimately led him to be known, in the '80s and '90s, as a cheesy artist by youngsters and a portion of adult listeners. Nevertheless, the mid-'90s witnessed a resurgence of Jovem Guarda talents through tributes by new rockers, and Carlos reached the 21st century uncontestedly enjoying his absolute title: the King.

Roberto Carlos was from a lower-middle-class family. At six, he lost one of his legs and began using a prosthesis. At nine, he debuted on his home city's local radio. In 1955, he moved to Niterói (Rio de Janeiro) and then to Lins de Vasconcelos (a suburb of Rio), where he started to get into rock through Bill Haley, Elvis Presley, and Little Richard, at the same time he met Carlos Imperial, also from his hometown, who, as a TV and radio producer, would be of considerable importance to Carlos' early professional years. Two years later, Carlos performed at TV Tupi, singing "Tutti Frutti." In that period, he was scheduled to open a Bill Haley show at the Maracanazinho (Rio) when he became acquainted with Erasmo Carlos (then Erasmo Esteves). In 1958, Carlos met the "Matoso gang" -- future artists Tim Maia, Jorge Ben, and the same Erasmo Esteves, among others -- who would meet at Matoso Street at Tijuca (a neighborhood of Rio). Carlos, Erasmo, and Tim Maia (together with Edson Trindade, Arlênio Lívio, and José Roberto "China") formed the group the Snacks (later the Sputniks), playing balls and performing on TV (including at Carlos Imperial's Clube do Rock on TV Continental, where Carlos was already a regular). The group was soon dissolved due to the incompatibility between Carlos and Maia.

After working as an extra in several films such as Agüenta o Rojão and Minha Sogra é da Polícia (in which they backed up Cauby Peixoto on one song), Carlos and Erasmo played together in Erasmo's quartet the Snakes until Carlos was called by Imperial to take Carlos Lyra's place in the Os Terríveis band, which played Elvis Presley covers on TV shows and live performances contracted by Imperial.

Soon, Carlos left the band to try to become a bossa nova artist. Strongly influenced by João Gilberto in that period, Carlos often tried to "sit in" at the famous Temples Plaza nightclub and the clubs of the Beco das Garrafas, but to no avail. A testimony of his ephemeral and unaccomplished bossa nova phase is Carlos' first album, with "João e Maria" and "Fora do Tom" (both by Imperial). In August 1960, a new release was launched, again in the bossa vein, "Brotinho Sem Juízo" and "Canção do Amor Nenhum" (again, both by Imperial). At the same time, Carlos would participate regularly in shows presented by Imperial, Os Brotos Comandam (TV Continental and Rádio Guanabara) and Festa de Brotos (TV Tupi). In 1961, during the same year in which Carlos recorded his first LP (a move toward boleros and ballads, Louco por Você) that earned some acceptance at the time (3,500 copies sold in one year), he accepted the suggestion of the record company CBS and changed his style to youth music, starting to write songs with the composer/lyricist who would become his most important collaborator: Erasmo Carlos. The duo's first hit was Carlos' rendition for an Erasmo version of "Splish Splash" (Bobby Darin), having as the B-side another classic written by them, "Parei na Contramão." The album was recorded and launched in 1963 as Carlos' fifth 78-rpm record, accompanied by Renato e Seus Blue Caps. It sold 7,500 copies, a modest amount today, but it represented a considerable amount then and the milestone of a new time.

Background/History:

Pre-Hogwarts: Angelo was born on August 23, 1972, in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, while his father (as the son of a Brazilian) did international work in the South American country. But he returned to England at the age of four, going to live in the small village of Royal-Garden, near the south coast of the country.

At 6, Angelo suffered the first blow of his life, his father was murdered in a duel against death eater Evan Rosier.

Because of the instability of his Veela powers, he can never interact with Muggle children, because of the risks of revealing the Wizarding World. And after learning about his nature, some wizard boys who lived in the Royal Garden began to bully him, which made him stay away from the children. The only person who knew all this was Jay, and defended his little brother.

When his brother disappeared, Angelo completely isolated himself, he started to stay inside the house reading his father's and brother's books.

At 8, Angelo won Arthy as a birthday present from his mother, and that made the rest of his childhood bearable.

1st Year: While traveling on the Hogwarts Express, Angel felt very insecure about being a half-veela, so in an attempt to change the color of his white hair to black, he ended up turning his hair blue. During the first year, Angel avoided to relate with the other students, having Rowan like its only friend. His teachers, with the exception of Professor Flitwick and McGonagall, were the only ones who didn't compare him to Jay.

After his duel with Merula, Angel met Penny Haywood, when the girl was so kind to him, that from that moment, Angel always blushed when she spoke to him.

He thought he would be a normal student, but no matter how much he avoided it, the curiosity to know what happened to his brother spoke louder, then with the help of Rowan and Penny, they decided to investigate the appearance of the "mysterious ice".

2st Year: As soon as he returned to Hogwarts, Angelo was increasingly determined to discover the truth about his brother and what led him to become involved with the Cursed Vaults. After finding Ben trapped in the ice, he realized that he would need to do what he could to break the curse.

When they found the first vault, and when Rowan was wounded, Angel spent every minute of his free time, studying how to get through the ice door.

The more he investigated, the more bad rumors of his brother were coming, but he refused to believe that Jay was a bad and selfish person as they say he is.

When it was finally time to enter the ice vault. Angelo, Penny and Bill, with much effort, managed to break the curse.

3st Year: With clues to the next Vault, he had to deal with Sebastian Anguslow, a boy who always bullied him at the Royal Garden, so after explaining his situation to Talbott Winger, he agreed to help him become an animagus. After five months, he managed to become a black Bombay cat. So he was able to avoid Anguslow and all his followers.

When he managed to enter Jay's office, after defeating Merula in a duel, he found several notes from Jay about the second crypt, but the image of a loving and protecting brother was undone by the facts.

When entering the vault, Angel, Tonks, Tulip and Barnaby had to face their fears to break the boggarts' curse.

4st Year: As soon as he got back to Hogwarts, his convictions about Jay were pretty shaken, he didn't exactly know what to believe, but if there was one thing he did know, thanks to his Veela skills, he was able to feel a negative energy emanating from her, which meant he should not trust Rakepick.

While steadfastly refusing to be Rakepick's assistant, he learned of a Dementor's invasion, and that it had affected Penny, he told Tonks that he would resolve this and find out the truth behind said. After Tonks taught him to cast a patronus, he discovered that he took the form of a Bombay cat, like Arthy.

After the incident with the Dementor, the relationship between Penny and Angel strengthened each time more, and this resulted in an invitation to the Celestial Ball.

When he met Torvus, the centaur's revelations made his convictions about his brother melt away before the facts presented. This left him devastated, the image of the heroic brother he had from his childhood had been left in a past that seemed unreal.

While investigating, Professor Flitwick suggested that Angelo try to become the Ravenclaw's new perfect. But he knew that it was only a responsibility to divert his search, but the privileges of a perfect one would only help him in his search.

Once his ticket to the secret crush had caused a real mess at Hogwarts, he tried to solve it with the help of Tonks and Charlie, taking the courage to invite Penny on a date, it was an even bigger mess, but in the end, in the light of stars were all perfect, and Angelo finally realized that he had nothing but himself to be accepted, mainly due to his crush. Penny Haywood.

When he finally managed to return the arrow to Torvus, it was time for Angel, Penny, Hagrid and Torvus to enter the forest vault. From that moment, Angelo began to resolve the curses to clear the Lancaster family name and free Hogwarts from these dangers.

5st Year: After returning to Hogwarts to earn his class schedule with the time of his detention, he joined Bill and Merula, despite many protests, joined the Rakepick apprentice group.

Once again Angelo had a personal reason to break the curse, Beatrice, Penny's sister was one of the victims of the curse, so during this year, he had to manage all his time between classes, study for the owls, train and play Quidditch, and investigate Cursed Vaults.

Upon learning that Jay was directly involved in Duncan's death, Angel believed that the caring brother and that he protected him no longer existed.

Without the motivation to find Jay, he simply continued his investigations to protect his friends and clear the Lancaster's name.

During Valentine's Day, even with Lockhart's interference, Angelo and Penny had a great date and in their moment alone in the greenhouse, Angelo asked Penny for a date and gave her first kiss.

After successfully spreading the chaos and getting the painting with Peeves, Angelo, Charlie, Bill, Merula and Rakepick entering the fourth vault. After discovering the truth about Rakepick and meeting his brother again, he had the revelation that thinking about him was the only thing that kept Jay's sanity. And even though Jay was left in the crypt, he had little hope that Jay would still be the brother he was during his childhood.

Order of the Phoenix / 2nd Wizarding War: As soon as they graduated from Hogwarts, Angelo and Talbott started their Auror training with Auror Kingsley Shacklebolt, thanks to their school friendship, the two Ravenclaws formed a great pair, becoming partners.

After finishing the training, Angelo and Talbott were assigned to small missions until they acquired enough experience for large missions. Until one night in 1995, Angel received devastating news, Kyril Vasiley, one of his best friends, had died, which left him devastated. The next day, he received news of the death of Cedric Diggory, another school friend, that was horrible for the blue-haired boy.

A few days after Lord Voldemort's return, Angelo was visited by Albus Dumbledore, who recruited him into the Order of the Phoenix. From that moment on Angelo became a member working on missions on behalf of Dumbledore.

In the battle of the department of mysteries, Angelo was with Tonks and they immediately went to Harry's aid.

During the time that Pius Thicknesse was minister of magic, Angelo works together with some friends to help Muggle-borns and other wizards unfairly accused of the persecution of Dolores Umbridge

He worked as an auror until 2011, after retiring as an auror, He worked on the Accidental Magic Reversal Squad for a year. Until he received an invitation from Professor McGonagall to replace Filius Flitwick as a charms professor at Hogwarts in 2013.

Old Age & Death: Angelo worked as a teacher at Hogwarts for several years, until he turned 89. Then he said he and Penny lived in a house in Hogsmeade until Angel turned 103, when he died of old age.

Logical: Angelo always likes to make his decisions based on logic, it is extremely rare that he makes a decision based on emotion.

Empathic: Thanks to his Veela skills, he is able to feel the emotions of others, so he always tries to make people feel better, he cannot see his sad friends, he always tries to make his friends feel better.

Shy: Angelo due to his complicated childhood, he is a very shy boy, not being able to approach new people easily, always preferring to stay in his comfort zone. But he makes an effort when he really wants to meet someone.

Intelligent: Thanks to his photographic memory, Angelo is very intelligent, and he uses that intelligence to help his friends with their homework, mainly in History of Magic, and sometimes he doesn't mind writing essays for them.

Angelo is a descendant of two pure-blood families, the Lancaster and the Trindade, family of his paternal grandmother, Damares Trindade, a Brazilian pure-brood family, but he was disinherited when they learned that his father had married a Veela, and had half-Veela children.

The Stellair family, is a family well known among the French Veela.

Angelo developed a passion for ice and snow magic after almost drowning in a frozen lake.

He has visited the Veela sanctuary in the interior of France several times, where he can assume his Veela form while there, but wizards can only enter the sanctuary with a permit from the French Ministry of Magic.

His little habit of reading while walking comes from when he learned to read, at the age of 4, he used to read the Tales of Beedle the Bard.

And Angel likes to assume her animagus form and stay in the lap of her closest friends, receiving ear strokes, mainly from Kyril, Candy, Elaiza, Roger and Jason.

When he needs to be alone to think or just cry, he can be found sitting under the beech on the shores of the black lake, but when he is there he doesn't like to see anyone.

Titans United #1 DC Comic 2021 Written by Cavan Scott Pencilled by Jose Luis Inked by Jonas Trindade Coloured by Rex Lokus Lettered by Carlos M. Mangual    The Titans face their greatest challenge-their own powers! Nightwing, Donna Troy, Superboy, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, and Red Hood kick off a thrilling new case that will lead one of their own to question not only their place on the team, but their very existence.    Well I am a fan of Cavan’s work so with him taking on the Titans, which is based off the television show, and bringing us one heck of a first issue like this makes me one happy little camper.  Already I like the premise here and I am immensely enjoying seeing this lineup of characters in their traditional DCU attire and feeling a lot more like the team we’ve been wanting to see.  There is just something about this and the dynamic of the team that just really works under Cavan’s writing.  The family feel of the characters, the sarcasm and just the overall way that they interact with one another feels like they have indeed known each other for what would be considered a lifetime.  Donna also has the best line in the book and I gotta say and it took me by complete surprise and I absolutely love it!    I’m very much enjoying the way that this is being told.  The story & plot development that we see through how the sequence of events unfold as well as how the reader learns information is presented exceptionally well.  The character development that we see through the dialogue, the character interaction as well as how they act and react to the situations and circumstances which they encounter does a marvellous job bringing them to life.  The pacing is excellent and as it takes us through the pages introducing us to the story and the characters does a magnificent job in pulling the reader into these events.    How we see this being structured and how the layers within the story emerge and grow is exceptionally well rendered.  The layers are where we see the bulk of the characterisation and plot twists and as they open up avenues that may or may not be further explored they all add some great depth, dimension and complexity to the story.  How we see everything working together to create the story’s ebb & flow as well as how it moves the story forward is impeccably rendered.    I am completely in love with the interiors here.  The linework is spectacular and how we see the varying weights and techniques being utilised to create the level & quality of detail within the work is truly astounding.  How we see the backgrounds being utilised to enhance and expand the moments is gorgeous.  How we see them work within the composition of the panels to bring out the depth perception, sense of scale and the overall sense of size and scope to the story.  The utilisation of the page layouts and how we see the angles and perspective in the panels show a remarkably talented eye for storytelling.  I am in love with the detail work we see throughout this book and the use of powers and costumes (Dove’s waist dove’s for instance) and just the strength that the visuals bring.  The various hues and tones within the colours being utilised to create the shading, highlights and shadow work show a phenomenal eye for how colour works.  From the choices, the application and how light sources change the shades are all done exceptionally well. ​    This is the Titans I want to see, granted there are some missing and some of these that are surprising to be a part of things but overall the Titans have as many members as the Justice League and many of the more obscure ones really do need a place to come back and shine, hint hint.  So with some strong, interesting writing and absolutely stellar characterisation wrapped up in these phenomenal interiors make this the Titans book we’ve been waiting for.

WHO applauds Brazil’s leadership in advancing multisectoral engagement towards ending TB

The World Health Organization (WHO) welcomes the new decree by the President of Brazil, His Excellency Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on the establishment of an Interministerial Committee for the Elimination of Tuberculosis and other Socially Determined Diseases (CIEDS).

“Brazil has made rapid progress over the past six months in bringing together nine ministries to prioritize ending TB and address the key drivers of the epidemic. WHO applauds the leadership of H.E. President Lula da Silva in establishing the Interministerial Committee,” said Dr Tereza Kasaeva, Director of WHO’s Global TB Programme. “This will serve as an inspiration for other leaders. We urge countries to advance efforts to strengthen multisectoral collaboration, and build an effective accountability system on ending TB.”

The Interministerial Committee will be coordinated by the Ministry of Health that is headed by Honorable Minister Dr Nísia Trindade Lima, and will include representatives from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Hunger, Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship, Ministry of Racial Equality, Ministry of Integration and Regional Development, Ministry of Justice and Public Security, and Ministry of Indigenous Peoples. The committee will support Brazil's ambitious plan to end TB and address the main drivers of the TB epidemic including poverty, undernutrition, and other vulnerabilities affecting key populations.

You lived in a neighborhood full of mysterious wizards, but you couldn't care about any of them. Traits: Romantic, Family-oriented and Good. Aspiration: Soul mate. Rules: Complete twin soul aspiration; Marry a human; Become a practical wizard, using only the spells of this branch; Enter a gardening career and own a large garden in your home; Have at least one child. Generation Three: The Half-Blood Her parents' relationship was beautiful, but everyone around her completely disapproved. They considered their father a threat to the wizarding world, since he was human. Your schoolmates didn't like you very much either and they called you a half-breed. Yet you felt part of that world. You decided that you would prove your worth. Traits: Ambitious, Bookworm and Self-assured. Aspiration: Witchcraft and Magic. Rules: Complete the aspiration of witchcraft and magic; Marry a supernatural; Become an indomitable and practical wizard, using both spells; Divorce after the birth of your first wizard son. Generation Four: The Hateful Seeing how your family was treated just for not having your pure blood was unacceptable to you. His parents not reacting to insults and insults made it unbearable. Your family has always kept it a secret that you could be both in order to avert a war, but you and your brother wanted the world to know. Traits: Creative, Perfectionist and Clumsy. Rules: Complete Best Seller Author Aspiration Write a book as a young adult telling about the existence of mestizos; Decide if you want to become more vampire or sorcerer; Sell ​​at least 15 books throughout your life; Marry a child-hating sim and have at least 1 child with him. Generation Seven: The Forest Witch Thanks to their mother, vampires and wizards hate each other and have created several rules that prohibit marriage among themselves in order to prevent the emergence of hybrids. Generation Nine: The War Orphan You lost everything you had during the war. He did not know his father and stayed with his mother for a short time. You felt alone in the world and knew they would hunt you when they knew of your existence. Your father's dark side is stronger in you than your mother's magic. Traits: Snob, Ambitious and Evil. On The Come Up by Angie Thomas

I raced through this 400 page book in two days, which is my favorite way to read a book! It's been a while since I read a YA book that I enjoyed so much. Bri is a high school junior at a Midtown Arts Academy but she lives in Garden Heights with her single mom and her older brother. She dreams of being a rapper like her father, shot and killed when she was four in a gang related conflict. Her mom wants her to focus on SAT and ACT test prep, get into a good school and go to college. Bri's best friends, Sonny, a gay visual arts student, and Malik, a filmmaker, thrive academically but Bri keeps getting sent to the principle's office for every tiny defiance. Finally, Bri's aunt is able to use her connections to secure Bri a chance at a freestyle rap battle in the Ring- of course her opponent is the son of a music producer with one or two vapid viral hip-hop tracks already released. I was literally sweating while I read the section about Bri freestyling, getting sympathetic stage fright. The pacing of this story is so satisfying- a perfect mix of action moments and scenes of reflection or family time. It had the heightened stakes of a YA novel, but grounded by the very real emotions of the characters. Plus there are moment that it made me laugh out loud!

Pass With Care by Cooper Lee Bombardier

An extremely strong collection of memoir essays, centered on themes of queer community, gender transition, reckoning with white masculinity, being a working class artist, relationships, trauma, healing, and accountability. Two short pieces about childhood, "Lincoln Street" and "Boombox", ached with the feeling of the last period of freedom before the full onslaught of gender policing and puberty. Many of the pieces provided a window to a specific queer moment in San Francisco in the 1990s, when punk artist collectives could still afford rent and run wild through the city. Bombardier also writes about working in traditionally masculine spaces, in carpentry, in welding, in construction, and as a college campus security guard. I enjoyed the nonlinear organization of the pieces in this book, and I highlighted several lines which I know I will be thinking about for a long time.

Be Gay, Do Comics edited by Matt Bors

I got this book in advance of it's August release date because I am one of the contributors :) It's a wonderful collection of short pieces, most previously published on The Nib, a few of which were commissioned new for this volume. I had read probably half of them or so in the past, but the ones that stood out on this pass included Hazel Newlevant's "Queer Uprisings Before Stonewall"; "Queerness has always been part of life in the middle east" by an anonymous author; "Decolonizing Queerness in the Philippines"by Trindad Escobar; "When You're Invisible in Pop Culture" by Bianca Xunise and Sage Coffey; "The Homophobic Hysteria of the Lavender Scare" by Kazimir Lee and Dorian Alexander; "Livejournal Made Me Gay" by JB Brager; "It's all for the Breast" by Alexis Sudgen; "Witch Camp" by Melanie Gillman; "The American Revolution's Greatest Leader was Openly Gay" by Josh Trujillo and Levi Hastings; and "The Wonderfully Queer World of Moomin" by Mady G, who also illustrated the beautiful cover.

The Killing Moon by NK Jemisin

Another home run of a book from NK Jemisin. This one is set in an alternate version of ancient Egypt, a city-state called Gujaareh, in which dreams serve as a source of magic. Sharers take dream-tithes from the citizens which they use to heal wounds and mental illness. Gatherers take a person's dreamblood- their life force- to be used in the service of Hananja, the moon goddess, ruler of the realm of dreams and the afterlife. One of these Gatherers is Ehiru, whose faith in his work and his mission is absolute- until he botches a gathering, accidentally sending a man's soul into the nightmare realm instead of a peaceful eternity. The man's angry spirit warns Ehiru that he is being used for corrupt purposes before it is ripped apart. Meanwhile, a diplomat from a neighboring country investigates her predecessor's probable murder; an apprentice-Gatherer begins his final training, not hiding the feelings he harbors for his mentor; and the Prince of the city, who killed his father and all of his siblings except one to gain the thrown plots a course towards immortality and domination. This book was written before the Broken Earth trilogy, and it's a bit easier of a read, partly because it is shorter. If you want to get into Jemisin but have been a bit intimidated, this is great book to start with. If you've already read Broken Earth, pick up this one too! It's a delightful treat.

Pandora's Legacy by Kara Leopard, Kelly Matthews and Nicole Matthews

The art in this book is very pleasing, but the story is fairly slight. Three siblings chase their cat into the forest and stumble upon a hidden temple to the Greek gods. They break a jar, and release some version of Pandora's curse on their small town- almost immediately, monsters begin attacking them. Confusingly, the first monster they face is a chupacabra, a creature who comes from South America myths, and later they see a jabberwocky, which comes from Lewis Carrol's poetry. These both felt out of place in a story based so heavily on Greek mythology. I also found the ending of the story a bit rushed. 

It Feels Good to Be Yourself by Theresa Thorne and Noah Grigni

For me this was a 5 star book on the art, 2.5 on the text. I'm glad this book exists, and I do think it's a good resource- I'm just not sure how engaging a child would find it, because it's not a story, it's a set of explanations of gender identity terms. But, still a good book for a first grade classroom!

Witch Hat Atelier vol 4 by Kamome Shirahama

I was SOOOOOO excited when my library announced they would start doing curbside pickup of holds because I knew I would get to read this book at last, which was on hold for me when the library closed in March! In this volume, two of Coco's classmates at the Atelier face their second test, another with a very shy apprentice with low self-esteem from another school. As always, the story is rich with new spells, new magical creatures, and hints of the dark forces that are trying to bring back forbidden power from the past. Reading these books makes me want to draw; they are so beautiful, from the page layouts to the costume design to the body language- seriously, one of the best manga series I've ever read!

The Fire Never Goes Out: A memoir in pictures by Noelle Stevenson

I've been following Noelle Stevenson here on tumblr since 2011, the fanart days, and I always looked forward to her year-end reviews. I think I had read over half of this book previously online! But I really enjoyed reading these comics again, in chronological order, and with new narration to give them more context. As a memoir it's fairly loose, but many of the pieces hit very vulnerable emotional notes.

6. What bothered you most about lockdown? Having to study in my room, it really messed up how i envisioned my study time and my leisure time as two different moments in my day, since i did both those things in the same space. 7. Which change, e.g. home office, would you like to keep once it´s all over? I guess online meetings? Because you don’t have to spend time going to a common place where everyone can meet. Also, in my case, online meetings started exactly at their predicted time, unlike most of my in-person meeting, when i usually had to wait to someone else who was “just getting there, guys”.  12. Any new hobbies you tried out during lockdown? I downloaded duolingo to learn Spanish, but that only lasted, like, one month hahaha I also bought a camera to photograph and film, but didn’t have much of a chance to try it out, i’m hoping next year i’ll have more opportunites to do so.
