@eddiemonth prompt, oct 22nd:  First concert | Triumph of King Freak - Rob Zombie | Eager a/n: a missing scene from an older fic, counting stars (when I look in your eyes)! post-canon fix, eddie pov, established steddie, fluff with a dash of angst, mention of eddie's late mother read on ao3 + ao3 masterpost | tumblr masterlist
December, 1988
“Why does your acoustic have that written on it? ‘This Machine Slays Dragons’?” Steve asks as he watches Eddie strum without looking at his hands. It’s a bit mesmerizing, the way his fingers glide along the strings of their own accord.
The song stops and Eddie slaps the body of the guitar in his lap.
“This old girl is an homage to one Woody ‘This Machine Kills Fascists’ Guthrie. Ever heard of him?”
“He did ‘This Land Is Your Land,’ right?”
Eddie claps his hands together and points two finger guns his way. “Ding ding ding, we have a winner. Yeah, he wrote that and a shit ton of other political critique folk music.”
“I didn’t know you liked that sort of thing. Sounds pretty far removed from Metallica, y’know?”
“Only in delivery. You’d be surprised how much overlap there is in meaning. But yeah, my uh—” Eddie stops and pulls the guitar closer to his torso and swallows the dust in his mouth that’s gathered from years of not talking about his mother. “My mom was a big fan of it. She loved Guthrie, Baez, Dylan, Grateful Dead, Cohen. You name it, she loved it.”
Steve’s heart tries to claw its way out of his body to run towards Eddie sitting on the floor with his back against the wall, timid smile, and fidgeting hands.
“That’s really cool, man. She sounds awesome. How come you don’t talk about her more?”
“It just—I don’t know. It still hurts, I guess. Which is stupid, I was eight when she died so it should get easier, right?” Eddie laughs humorlessly and stares at his strings like they hold answers to questions he didn’t know he had. He wants to crawl on top of Steve, desperate for warmth and comfort now, and looking at him makes the urge damn near impossible to beat back. So he doesn’t look up.
Steve adjusts his position on the bed, subconsciously making room. “Hell no, that’s not how grief works, Ed. Wish it was that easy but I’ve seen a lot of death personally and with work, and it changes people. You can tell me to fuck off if I’m like, overstepping here but you were a kid. You’re allowed to be sad about her death, and you’re allowed to talk about it.”
Eddie pauses for a long moment, considering the validation and how much he trusts Steve. He trusts him with his life, his soul, his heart, his  everything. Maybe everything could include his past, too. His voice is wistful when he starts.
“She used to sing Dylan’s ‘Forever Young’ around the house.”
December, 1974
Eddie sits cross-legged on the floor, threadbare couch behind him as he flips through a comic book gifted to him by his Uncle Wayne. The page crinkle with each turn and he traces the illustrations of each villain and superhero, the words a bit lost on him but the pictures jumping off of the page. Varying shades of saturated reds and blues disappear and reappear beneath his pointer finger and grins. He hasn’t read the story yet– he prefers to make up his own first– but he can see that the good guy is about to win.
Happy endings are just so rare in real life.
His mom is in the kitchen, singing softly and stirring something on the stove in a corroded aluminum pot. Eddie picks up the delicate scents of tomatoes and peppers, maybe some kind of meat. She’s been in a bright mood today, singing as she cooks, singing as she did her best to clean up the beer cans and bottles that litter the living room. Eddie even heard her singing in the shower that morning.
It’s not lost on him that his dad’s been gone for a few days. Hell, that’s the only reason he’s able to sit in the living room: there’s room for him.
His dad is always too loud, drowning out the soft soprano of his mother’s voice. Everything she sings sounds like a lullaby, so it’s fitting that Eddie closes his eyes to listen.
Eddie loves when his mom sings, especially the song she’s singing now.
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young
May you stay forever young
She never tells him, but he feels like she sings it just for him.
November 1990
Steve hasn’t been this nervous to give Eddie a Christmas gift since that first Christmas of theirs two years ago. Funny enough, the gift then had been related to his late mother, too. Maybe he has a pattern. The envelope shakes in his hands as he sits next to Eddie on the couch– their couch, actually. At least as of a few months ago when they’d put down their down payment on the small, one-bedroom apartment in the heart of Indianapolis.
Eddie glances over and sees Steve’s right hand nearly crumpling whatever his gift is, his fingertips white and his smile tight. Whatever it is must be time sensitive, since he’s insisted on giving it to Eddie so early.
“What is it, Steve? You look like you’re gonna shit yourself.”
Steve laughs, nervous and breathy. “I actually might, and we just bought this couch, so. Just– here. Open it.”
He pries the envelope from Steve’s hand and tears it open, Steve having to caution him against ripping it in half and voiding the fucking the gift. Three rectangles fall out onto his lap, full of typewriter style font.
“Oh shit, concert tickets!” Eddie smiles and knocks his knee against Steve’s. “Why were you so nervous? This is awesome!”
Steve nods at the tickets. “Did you see who it is?”
Eddie’d been too excited about finally getting to a proper concert, one that he doesn’t have to set up and break down with Gareth, Jeff, and Frank. When he looks down and actually reads the headliner, his heart stops.
University of Dayton Arena Presents: BOB DYLAN TUESDAY, NOV 13 1990 7:30 PM
“Steve… is this…?” He can’t find the words, buried and lodged behind the lump forming in his throat.
Steve watches him carefully as he traces the letters with one finger, a habit he’s picked up on over the years, and gently rests a hand on his thigh and gives it a squeeze. “You okay?”
Eddie nods. “Yeah, yeah, I’m definitely okay.”
Okay is an understatement. He’s bewildered, he’s humbled, he’s ecstatic. When Eddie tears himself away from the small rectangles that sit on his lap like the gold bars they are, he looks at Steve with wonderment. First, the music box. Now, this. How is he ever going to keep up?
“I know it’s your first concert but I saw that he was coming around and I just figured it’d be cool, y’know? I don’t know who he’s touring with or anything–”
He does this, Steve knows. He knows that he rambles when he’s nervous or when he’s put himself out there and for some reason, giving Eddie these tickets feels incredibly vulnerable. Even years later, even after Eddie’s constant reassurance that he could never, Steve would hate for Eddie to think that he’s encroaching on special memories.
Before he can finish his stream of thought, Eddie kisses him. Just leans over, tickets still in his lap, and claps both hands on either side of his cheeks as Eddie plants one on him. Then again. And again. And again.
Eddie peppers every inch of Steve’s face with kisses, interjecting in between each one.
“You’re–” Kiss to the nose.
“So fucking–” Kiss to the cheek.
“Perfect–” Kiss to the forehead.
When he finishes, Eddie rests his forehead against Steve’s and wraps his arms around Steve’s neck, feeling them shake beneath him as Steve laughs. “Always so dramatic.”
“And you love it. But, wait,” Eddie pulls back and picks the tickets back up. “Why are there three?”
“Do you honestly think Wayne would ever speak to me again if I got tickets for Bob Dylan and didn’t include him? C’mon, man. Christmas would be so fucking awkward.”

On Sept 20th we venerate Ancestor & Hoodoo Saint John Henry on the 153rd anniversary of his passing 🕊
Tumblr media
An icon of Hoodoo Folklore & History, John Henry - aka the Steel-Driving Man - embodied the otherworldly strength & will that defied physics, expectation, & the harsh conditions of his time. He is a symbol of Black Power as an unbreakable spirit of resistance and protest.
John Henry was indeed a real man behind the lore of his legend. Though there is still much debate as to who was THE John Henry among many possibilities. As it stands, most scholars believe he was born enslaved in VA in 1840’s, later emancipated after the Civil War. He stood at 6ft tall, 200lbs - a true giant of his time. He carried a beautiful baritone voice & played the banjo. That would make him the 19yr old who was convicted of theft in a VA court in 1866. For his alleged crime, he was sentenced to 10 years in the penitentiary & put to work building the C&O Railroad during the Reconstruction Era.
In the February 1870, the legend of John Henry was born along the C&O Railway at Big Bend Mountain near Talcott, WV - when over 1,000 railroad workers began drilling the Great Bend Tunnel where the Greenbrier River makes a seven-mile meander around the mountain. John Henry was a "free Negro" hired as a Steel-Driver on the C&O Railway. He & his counterparts were saddled with the gruesome task of hammering steel drills into rock to holes for explosives to cut a 6,450 ft-long tunnel through the mountain. Railroad work was hard; long hours of grueling labor, dangerous at times, for little money.
Holes were drilled into the layers of rock using a hand drill & hammer, then filled with powder & blasted in order to make the rock small enough to remove from the tunnel. The drill was held by a “Shaker” - tasked with turning it slightly after each blow & shake it to flip the rock dust out of the hole. The “Steel Driver” swung the hammer as hard & as often as he could, pounding the drill into the rock. John Henry was prolificly known as the strongest, fastest, & most powerful man working on the railroad.
Tumblr media
One day, the C&O railroad company bought a steam drill. It was said that the steam drill could drill faster than any man on earth. This sparked the age-old debate & challenge of Man-versus-Machine. John Henry immediately volunteered to go up against the machine to prove that the Black worker could drill a hole through the rock farther & faster than any drill could.
John Henry wielded two 10-14lb hammers, one in each hand. He pounded the steel drill so hard & fast that he drilled a 14ft hole into the rock. The steam drill only reached 9ft. John Henry held up his hammers in triumphant victory. Nearly a thousand railroad workers shouted & cheered his name. So much so that it took them a while before realizing that John Henry was tottering. Exhausted, he crashed to the ground with his hammer at his sides. It is said that the crowd went dead silent as the foreman rushed to his side. John Henry had passed away from exhaustion due to bursted blood vessels in his brain.
The Great Bend Tunnel was eventually completed on September 12th 1872, & remained in service until 1974. A life-sized, 750lb bronze statue of his likeness was erected on Dec 28th 1972 - on the 100th anniversary of the completion of the Great Bend Tunnel. Barbed wire was placed around the statue for many years to combat vandalism of white paint being thrown on it, gun shots to the face and torso, etc.
Tumblr media
Sadly, no one knows where John Henry was buried. Some say his likeness can be found carved into the rock inside the Big Bend Tunnel. Others say if you walk to the darkest edge of the tunnel, you can still hear the sound of two 10-14lb hammers drilling their way to victory.
"If I can't beat this steam drill down, I'll die with this hammer in my hand!"- John Henry, as told from The Ballad of John Henry.
John Henry's choosing to go up against the steam drill was not about the challenge in and of itself. It was about proving that the body & spirit of the Black man could NOT be broken. Especially while living in such hard, grueling times. Our livelihoods were at stake & our future was even more uncertain.
Thus, he is forever immortalized in the hearts & minds of our people as symbol of the blood, sweat, & tears that drench the C&O railway by Black railroad workers of the past/present. A beacon for those who lost their lives laboring under such dangerous occupation conditions. The lore of his legend (and the lives of Black workers lost) lives on in oral tradition through story, ballads, Blue's, & work songs from coast to coast. These songs and tales did more than transform John Henry into a folk hero, they reminded us to "slow down or die", which became a tool of resistance & protest among railroad workers.
John Henry was a legend turned symbol among the Black populace of the time. And an Ancestor turned Saint for us those of Hoodoo Culture.
We pour libations & give him💐 today as we celebrate him for his unbreakable spirit, unparalleled strength, & defiance against a system that see us all perish beneath its heel.
Offering suggestions: tobacco smoke, libations of dark liquor, railroad dirt (especially from the C&O railway tunnel/line), & sing/play ole rwork songs and ballads to his name.
‼️Note: offering suggestions are just that & strictly for veneration purposes only. Never attempt to conjure up any spirit or entity without proper divination/Mediumship counsel.‼️

TRACK 1
Curious Time
(1974-5)
It's dark all around you. You inhaled the smoke of different drugs with each breath but since it was so common in everyone's day, it wasn't bothersome. You pull the jacket a little tighter on your body, preventing the breeze from the ceiling fan from leaving you cold. Around you was just you and about ten other people at most, but you had arrived early anyway.
Your best friend had told you that there would be a performance by a rock band today, which made her interest grow that afternoon at the bar where she worked. She knew that you loved everything that involved this universe and since nothing occupied your schedule today, there you were.
You get up from the farthest table and make your way to the one closest to the stage, wanting to observe the members more. After arranging your things at the table with two chairs, after that making your way to the bar. You rest your torso on the marble object, smiling at the woman who was already preparing your drink.
“Are you looking forward to the band?” She asks, still keeping her gaze on her utensils. You nod with a wide smile. “I was told they were hot, and good, of course.” You roll your eyes while laughing, it was classic coming from her.
“Rock bands are always sexy.” You say, having a sip of the drink she handed you. “I wasn't that excited until you told me that Teddy Price was behind them, he's huge!!”
“Yeah maybe.” She shrugs, lighting a cigarette. “It doesn't matter, I have a boyfriend anyway. Can I help you with something else, kitten?”
You shake your head, letting her answer to the older guy who was waiting a few steps away from you. Do you feel him watching you as you put out the cigarette on your tongue, intrigued perhaps? You couldn't say it, your shyness didn't allow you to turn around and check.
If you had been watching Maria you'd see the curiosity also on her face when she noticed his gaze on you. And when you were getting ready to go back to your table you heard him softly, turning around.
“Sorry, were you talking to me? I didn't hear…” You calmly question, slowly seeing the bar fill with more people.
“I just asked if you've been a fan of the band for a long time.” He says once more.
“In fact...” You begin to say, trying to explain that you actually just knew the hit on the radio. “I'm just obsessed with Look Me In The Eye, my favorite, can't wait to see them play.” But something told you to get around the situation, and Maria's look at your conversation also said the same, since you knew every look your best friend gave you.
He agrees as he smiles small, you see him try to get something out of his pocket, while the other lowers the glass of tequila down his throat. “Here, keep this and go to the backstage door at the end of the show.”
You open your mouth to respond, very confused, but despite loving the idea of getting to know backstage, you knew that the probability of there being ulterior motives in this request was high.
“I'm sorry but I'm not interested in you.” You return the match, feeling embarrassed.
“What? No kid, I'm older enough to be your father.” He says, sounding just as disgusted by this scenario as you are. This relieves you, making you pull the match again. “I just don't have anyone to offer a pass to the party today, and you seem excited enough. “Just keep this, and go if you’re interested.”
“And who are you again?” Maria asks, her hands on her hips. You laugh at her.
“I'm Rod, the manager.” He responds, already getting up to disappear through the door towards the staff area.

Ecstasy was all that could define Warren Rojas at that moment (and perhaps throughout his life), he was finally accomplishing everything he wanted with his best friends, nothing could be better. He is the first to appear on stage, being welcomed by the audience shouting and applauding, he raises his drumsticks while his gaze quickly flicks to the people there, laying on you.
You didn't think he would be the one that caught your attention the most, not even if Maria was so right (after all, your taste in men has always been very different). Keeping your eyes on him you were speechless, every note he hit your whole body shivers.
The show was everything, actually mind-blowing for their first show of the tour, you were pretty impressed by all of them and their whole set. Billy says goodbye to the audience, the other members approach the edge of the stage to bow in farewell. Rojas observes you among the others, who applauded alongside you as they processed the most recent experience.
Warren Rojas (drummer of The Six): *chuckles* Yeah, I knew exactly what I was doing. I mean, she looked beautiful as she danced to our music. I just needed to get to know her. But it wasn't that easy...
Y/n L/n (songwriter): I actually was pretty nervous, I mean, I've been dreaming about getting close to rock stars since I can remember but actually doing it… it was intense. If I had known how things would go after that *laugh*
“I didn't want to say anything, kitten, But if you don’t decide soon what you want to do with this match, the party will end.” Maria says while drying the counter.
You let out a heavy breath, playing with the match between your fingers. “Do you think I should go?”
“You kidding? Of course!” She says it like it's obvious. “You keep telling me that this is the universe you want to be in, are you going to miss this opportunity?”
You don't respond, scratching the back of your head still searching for your decision.
“And if that guy tries something with you, you know just scream for me.”
Y/n Rojas L/n: She was right, I had been talking about all of that for so long that it would be stupid not to go.
When you hand the match to the security guard at the door he seems to check it before opening the door for you, it was like entering a sauna due to the drug vapor but you pretend to be used to it. As soon as you enter you can see Billy smelling a line so quickly that it causes you distress, Eddie had a girl you knew from somewhere you didn't know on her lap, Graham was playing something with Rod and Karen seemed to be feeling the effect of some drug kick in.
You think about turning around, feeling a little out of place, but Warren notices you entering the place and watches you from afar.
Y/n Rojas L/n: I felt someone looking at me, but I don't know, I didn't want to move because I was so nervous.
Warren Rojas: She was so pretty, I just wish I could remember everything from that night.
“Hey bella, you good?” You are startled by the drummer's voice behind you, right next to your ear so you can hear him.
“Oh, hey.” You turn to him, now noticing how poorly you had calculated the space between you.
Y/n Rojas L/n: It was an accident, I didn't notice he was so close.
Warren Rojas: *smirks* Aham.
“Hey.” He answers with the biggest smile you've ever seen. He squints his eyes.
Y/n Rojas L/n: He looked so high, I doubt he remembered anything from the set even. But it was cute though.
Warren Rojas: She thinks it was cute? Really? Wait a minute... *covers the camera* Hey babe, what's this about you..?
Warren was wearing a blue shirt, his jeans adorned him in the perfect way. His curls were a little damp, you couldn't tell if it was because of the heat in the room or because of the presentation a while ago. Embarrassed by the situation, you take a few steps back, your eyes fixed on the floor.
“You look lost.” He says laughing, and you notice that he takes a look at you. You seem to enjoy that. “I'm Warren Rojas. You are?”
“Call me June.” You say, accepting his hand when he extends it to you.
Y/n Rojas L/n: He was so kind to me I almost felt bad for lying about my name, I was actually shocked! I was just afraid, rockstars can be wild, and in my defense I thought I was never gonna see him again. *sigh* But you know, when you meet someone like Warren... Your life is never the same. At least mine never was! *You say, showing to the camera your wedding ring*
Warren Rojas: Can you believe she had the nerve to do that to me? It's not like I'd remember the next morning, but whatever.
Rock band parties were everything you imagined they would be, but Warren Rojas surprised you with every conversation. You didn't think that out of all the women there you would be the one to catch his attention but the drummer didn't let go of you throughout the event. And inside June's alter ego you connected with one of the most incredible men in the world, The drugs took over your consciousness while you were getting to know each other and that made everything even better.
Initially you stayed with the rest of the band, but after you mentioned that you liked writing things and producing music too, he insisted that you go back to the bar and you showed him. You didn't know if it was a good idea, but it was impressive how convincing he could be.
The night passed as quickly as the show, you talked and danced, smoked and laughed about the stupidest jokes you could tell. Even though you had met a few hours ago, You didn't know if it was due to the drugs or the little drink you had, but there was something different about being next to the drummer.
Interviewer: But did you continue to see each other during the rest of the tour?
Warren Rojas: Well… I kinda ghosted her.
Y/n Rojas L/n: *rolls your eyes*
Warren Rojas: *shrugs* I didn't mean to though. It's just, some drugs make me forget things. So I kind of never called back.
Y/n Rojas L/n: So, hear me out. Warren loves to say that I was crazy about him since day one but that's not true. I was not upset because he ghosted me, I was upset because I felt like I lost my opportunity to get into the industry. So, that's why I gave my number to him and also to Rod. And after I met Daisy, things just fell right into place. And somehow we keep meeting each other.
Interviewer: So you weren't into him?
Y/n Rojas L/n: I was attracted to him of course, but back then all I wanted was to go for my dreams. I didn't even know If I was going to meet him again.
Interviewer: So what happened?
You knew Rod was going to stay another day, you had heard last night that some complications had occurred and he would need to deal with them. The band was leaving early today, they would all meet up at the bar, so you decided to sleep together with Maria in your room upstairs. The bar owner was downstairs talking to those who had already arrived, you could see him when he stopped on one of the steps.
You see Warren and Eddie at one of the tables, they both look tired and clearly hungover. You deduce that they slept little and will recover during the journey to the next city, Then you finish your way to the end of the stairs giving a wave to Rod and Pablo who smiled in response. You make your way to Rojas, knowing he wouldn't forget your face this time.
“Good morning drummer.” You're the one who catches his attention this time, Warren feels happy in your presence. Eddie inspects you like he's trying to remember who the hell you are.
“Hey bella, my god how are you standing up? I can't even open my eyes after last night.” He turns to look at you, you feel comfort in this attitude. And he actually seemed unable to assimilate his surroundings.
“Well, I didn’t use everything you used yesterday.” You say with a weak laugh. He agrees, smiling with you. “I was going to the kitchen to make something to eat, you guys want something?”
“No need to bother.”
“I would love scrambled eggs to tell you the truth.” Eddie speaks at the same time as Warren, who gives him a reprimanding look. "What? She offered.”
“Don't worry, I'll be right back.”
Y/n Rojas L/n: I made them breakfast, for all of them, then I left my number on Warren's napkin and left it to talk to Rod later. Well, we know that neither of them helped in what I wanted.
Warren Rojas: She was so into me that she left her number on my napkin. *smirks* " I mean, she couldn't be more obvious.
Y/n Rojas L/n: I didn't hear from either of them for a long time, so I decided I didn't want to wait any longer. I gathered all my things and savings and moved to LA. But don't worry, I didn't move out of nowhere, I had this moving planned for over a year. I would stay at a relative's house while I looked for a place for myself. I'm not crazy, right?
Interviewer: So you haven't talked after you left?
Warren Rojas: Exactly, you know, the whole thing about being a rock star was great, I was having the time of my life, and to be honest, the first night was nothing compared to the rest. My wife will hate me, but it didn't take long to forget everything.
Y/n Rojas L/n: Looking back I understand why he didn't recognize me at all, I changed my whole wardrobe and hair when I moved.
Tumblr media
(1975-6)
Y/n Rojas L/n: Sometimes, it's all about networking.
Writing things under June's name was easier, thanks to Warren you gained a great name to let out your thoughts and ideas, so you started using it since moving to LA. You sold song lyrics under that name and started working with him and everything that involved personal things was still yours.
But the market was at a standstill, that was the best way you could define it. You had the money to still be there, but it wasn't pleasant to live in fear of the edges. And whether or not you wanted to be more active in the artistic world, this wasn't what you expected.
That was the fourth party you attended that week, little by little your hope was fading when things didn't seem to go the way you expected. And even if you tried to keep your creativity and desires alive, everything ended up on paper as sad lyrics and melodies. Still, you watch the singers interact with each other while dancing, drinking and doing drugs.
Apathetic around you, what consumes your thoughts is the probability of returning home, but you are taken away from them when a commotion around you begins, after a loud splash of water. You turn around curiously.
A red-haired woman sang while smiling mockingly, the guy in the water seemed furious and bitter, you then got closer listening to her sing “Stumble on Sublime”. She looks at you and raises her eyebrows, she comes closer.
“This song isn't his, by the way.” She passes you by isolating herself in a far corner of the party.
Daisy Jones: Y/n got me, like Simone she just understood me. She was probably the only one at that party who didn't judge me for pushing that asshole, and I liked that.
Y/n Rojas L/n: So we spent the night talking about lyrics, songs and everything related to that. She introduced me to Simone and we started seeing each other everyday. Daisy and Simone were the ones I needed to finally let all my inspiration out.
Simone Jackson: Y/n was fire, it was difficult to find pure talent like ours *laughs* But joking aside, we spent our mornings creating music and Y/n became an important part of Daisy's album and also a great help in mine.
Y/n Rojas L/n: Daisy was brilliant and I was good *laughs*, so her album was getting amazing. You heard it right? You can tell me I'm right. I was just thrilled that she invited me to work with her. *Holds up Daisy's record to the camera and points to your name*
Daisy Jones: Daisy and June were fire and intensity, Margaret and Y/n are friendship from start to finish.
Simone Jackson: But Daisy had a problem, the drugs were getting her behind. And even though she thought it made her create amazing things, we were getting worried, she just disappeared at times.
Y/n Rojas L/n: Unlike The Six, Daisy didn't have a tour... I don't know why.
Artie Snyder: Daisy had great songs, when Y/n joined the equation everything got better, but she wasn't rock. I didn't see crowds screaming and jumping to her songs back then, I couldn't risk the money.
Interviewer: How were things with The Six?
Rod: *smirks* A disaster, I mean, Billy had quit and they were completely lost. I knew he needed the time, but I believed he wouldn't spend so much time away from music. And I was right, he came up with Honeycomb… but it wasn't perfect. So Teddy had an idea.
Billy Dunne: *rolls his eyes*
Daisy Jones: Me and Y/n were drinking and smoking with Teddy one day, when I heard this really soft song coming out of the speaker and I just stopped.
Y/n Rojas L/n: I wasn't even paying attention until I saw that she was *laughing*, but from the moment I saw her look at me I knew we had to get to work.
Daisy Jones: Teddy asked us what we would do with it and I asked him for two days. That was all we needed.
Y/n Rojas L/n: It was a long two days, it was a complex song, I wish I had talked to the composer before, but Teddy said it was impossible. So I did my best with what we had.
Daisy Jones: In the end he loved the result, and asked me to record in the studio. Y/n didn't like being in this part of the production, in the singing I mean, but I still asked her to come with me. She loved the production part and choosing rhythm and instruments, so it was our moment to shine, we were very excited.

Bob Marley Assassination Attempt
Michael Manley, son of former Prime Minister Norman Manley, was elected Prime Minister of Jamaica in 1972. To address growing inequality in Jamaican society, Manley embarked on several democratic socialist reforms of the state, including land ownership reform, free education from primary to university, and nationalization of certain industries. Such policies had massive popularity among many people in Jamaica, but there were others who either saw the reforms as contrary to their businesses or as a high precursor to a Cuban-style communist government. Beginning in 1974, he was also opposed by the more conservative Edward Seaga of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP). The JLP used the threat of socialism to build support among property owners and churchgoers, attracting more middle-class support. By 1976 the two politicians hired local gangsters to help them increase their hold on power.
The 1976 elections marked the beginning of a period of political violence in Jamaica. A State of Emergency was declared by Manley's party the PNP in June and 500 people, including some prominent members of the JLP, were accused of trying to overthrow the government and were detained, without charges, in the South Camp Prison at the Up-Park Camp military headquarters.
Reggae musician Bob Marley announced plans to hold a concert in an attempt to quell the violence. Politicians from both parties were hoping to capitalize on Marley's support. While Marley remained neutral, many viewed him as tacitly supporting Manley and the PNP.
At 8:30 pm, on December 3, 1976, two days before the Smile Jamaica concert, seven men with guns raided Marley's house at 56 Hope Road. Marley and his band were on break from rehearsal. Marley's wife, Rita, was shot in the head in her car in the driveway. The gunmen shot Marley in the chest and arm. His manager, Don Taylor, was shot in the legs and torso. Band employee, Louis Griffiths took a bullet to his torso as well. Astonishingly, there were no fatalities. [Wiki].

ED GEIN
)c(
The depths of Ed Gein's depravity sank beneath the morals of civilized society. His deranged thoughts fed a dark desire, that motivated him to commit unimaginable crimes.
What began as casual Friday night grave robbing soon turned into murder. Gein needed freshly deceased female bodies to create his Corpse-couture. In a town with only 503 residents, freshly deceased ladies were limited. As a result of these dry spells, Gein had no choice but to kill. The laborious task of perfecting his artistry gave Ed Geins' life a sense of purpose and connection.
Gein transformed the family home into a palace of death. He covered wastebaskets and chair seats in a patchwork of hand stitched human skin; Female skulls adorned his bedposts while others were sawn in half and used as bowls. A pair of lips made a window shade drawstring; A collection of noses which he saved for a rainy day and cutlery made from bones. Gein dressed his naked body in skin garments that symbolized female beauty. A corset made from freshly skinned torso empowered the once emasculated virgin. In his new skin lady Gein was born. He assumed the role of 'woman of the house'. Death made it possible for Ed Gein to connect to the world. He gave life to dead bodies by dressing in their skin. For the first time in his life, he felt a sense of power and control.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He worshipped and feared his dominant mother, a religious tyrant who condemned the young Gein as a sinner in his masculine form. After his mothers death, Gein was distraught. He lacked the strength and discipline to live in the world without his mothers control. Increasingly, he craved her feminine power.
Ed's farming upbringing gave him some useful skills in butchery. He'd also dabbled in taxidermy when other kids were playing sport. With his lazy eye, speech impediment and antisocial family, young Ed was regularly picked on at school.
The gruesome nature of Ed Gein's crimes not only captured the collective fear of the public but also created a blueprint for three of the most unattractive antagonists in American cinema history: Norman Bates in Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" (1960) was directly inspired by Gein's overbearing relationship with his mother and his habit of dressing in women’s clothing. He kind've became the poster boy for psychopaths; Leatherface in “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” (1974) wore the skin of his victims, but stuck to more traditional gender roles; Buffalo Bill in “The Silence of the Lambs” (1991) is a composite of several real-life murderers, including Gein.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Locals in small town Plainfield described Gein as a quiet man who may have been a little odd, but harmless. They regarded Gein as one of their own. He had dined at their tables and even babysat their children. But this was well before they knew about his fetish for pelt-belts.
Tumblr media
The case of Ed Gein significantly contributed to Criminal Studies & Understanding of Psychopathy: Although Gein was not a diagnosed psychopath, his case has illuminated aspects of disturbed behavior, contributing to our understanding of mental disorders in the context of criminality. For instance, Gein's unhealthy relationship with his mother has influenced theories regarding the impact of familial relations on disturbing behavior. His obsession with female body parts also led specialists to understand more about fetishism and necrophilia.
Tumblr media
Additionally, Ed Gein's case promoted the development of FBI's criminal profiling methods. Robert Ressler, a former FBI agent and one of the pioneers in this field, especially used Gein's case, among others, to understand the motivations and behavior of serial killers.

20240108: the History of LEGO Castle Day 008. 6010-1 Supply Wagon (1984, 33 pieces, 23 different pieces) Supply Wagon was designed by Daniel August Krentz and was the first small set from the LEGOLAND Castle System theme. If you want to know more about the designer, Daniel August Krentz, BrickSet did a really nice tribute and has a full list of everything he designed. The Supply Wagon introduced the first "civilian" into the Castle System theme, listed as a peasant, and also saw the first playable molded animal in the form of a white horse. The horse can fit a 1x2 saddle or a combination of 1x2 plates and a tile or a 1x2 brick, which allows the horse to not have a gaping hole in the back when not being ridden. The horse can move its head up or down, to give the horse the ability to graze or hold its head high while pulling a wagon. This set also introduced the hinged bridle for the horse, giving the ability to build a cart or wagon that can travel up hills or rotate from side to side, though the main wagon build for this set does not allow for the rotational aspect. This set also introduced brown into the Castle System with 33mm wagon wheels, a spear, and a brown hood for the light gray minifigure torso, as well as dark gray for the sword and the round shield. In addition to this set, the light gray torso with blue arms, a v-neck, and a belt with a pouch was found in five other sets from 1985-1989 (6055-1 Prisoner Convoy, 6103-1 Castle Mini Figures, 1584-1 / 6060-1 Knight's Challenge, and 1974-3 Smuggler's Hayride). The back of the box builds continue to show doing the most with a limited amount of bricks, as you could use the pieces in this box to build a chariot-style wagon, a plow, or even weigh down the horse and make it carry all the supplies while the "peasant" patrols. I do very much like the silhouette picture, though, as it feels like a story just waiting to be told. Honestly, I miss these kind of sets, which were just a minifigure and a small handful of parts in a very small box for under $5. I think this one actually retailed around $1.99 or even $2.99 in the United States when it came out in 1984. BrickLink, BrickSet, and Rebrickable all list the Supply Wagon with the Lion Knights sub-theme under LEGOLAND Systems Castle but this set seems completely neutral to me. In fact, the only time this torso shows up seems to be when the Lion Knights need someone to arrest. This is probably also the best armed supply wagon I've ever seen, sporting a halberd, spear, short sword, hammer, and a round shield with no print or stickers to show affiliation. The 2x3 double convex slope gives the appearance of a treasure chest at the back of the wagon, but I think a real treasure chest would have been more fun. Though, as the "peasant" doesn't have any colored flags on the wagon, it would be difficult to assess exactly whose treasure the "peasant" transported :) Of note, this set, just like many of this era, contain the 1x1 plate with a thin side vertical clip. I can't tell you how many of these clips I've broken over the years so if you're building this set with era-authentic parts, you might want to be very gentle with those clips. And also the side clips on the saddles :) Toysperiod has a free download of the instructions. Just over two years ago, I actually wrote a little bit of fanfiction using my LEGO as inspiration. Here is a link to my original post on LEGO 6010 Supply Wagon.

Eugene Christopher Wright, Utah inmate 82494, born 1974, incarceration intake in 2010 at age 36, sentenced to life, eligibly for parole in 2031
Murder
In 2010, Eugene Christopher Wright was sentenced to prison for fatally gunning down a Springville, Utah businessman in the parking lot of a Sandy Village Inn in 2007.
Wright was ordered to serve a 15-years-to-life sentence for murdering Kenneth Dolezsar and received a five-years-to-life sentence for aggravated robbery for stealing his car.
Third District Judge Royal Hansen ordered that the sentences run consecutively because he said Wright never admitted guilt in the case and poses "a serious threat" to society.
"You are the one who planned these heinous crimes," Hansen said, adding that Wright also was the person who procured the gun, arranged a breakfast meeting with Dolezsar, disguised himself with a wig, fired five shots at Dolezsar's head and upper torso, and then fled in Dolezsar's vehicle, which was later found abandoned not far from the crime scene.
Dolezsar, who also coached men's hockey at Utah Valley State College, was shot to death Nov. 15, 2007. An eyewitness in a nearby car identified Wright as the man who fired the gun.
A jury convicted Wright following a trial and lengthy deliberations. Wright, however, has maintained his innocence all along and intends to appeal his case.
Bianca Pearman-Brooks, Wright's wife, described him in court as a good, gentle and patient man who is innocent of these crimes.

Help! I’ve fallen and I’m a “child-hating” talent agent weathering a (medical-termed) geriatric pregnancy in the fictitious town of San Pueblo, California!
Word on the street (me) would have it that Reuben Kincaid was faced with distressing news at his doctor’s office (and nearly passed out as a result, alarming and evoking sympathy from an elderly patient hobbling down the hallway with her cane… well, it wouldn’t surprise me. Lest we forget we learned in the “Soul Club” episode that he apparently carries “smelling salts” on his person?) in the fall of 1974…. But anyway, months later, he was preparing to depart from the Partridge residence for a business trip. “Reuben, don’t you look nice,” Shirley told him before he left. “Yeah. You’re glowing!” Danny crowed loudly, taking long opportunistic strides to catch up to his mother and manager. Reuben smiled at them, looking a bit incredulous. “You know, you guys don’t have to flatter me.” “Oh, phew,” Danny breathed, pretending to wipe sweat off his brow. “That one comment took a lot out of me.” Shirley glanced in displeasure at her son before asking, “What do you mean, Reuben?” “Come on, Shirley. I wasn’t born yesterday,” Reuben said. “I know what you’re saying is because of… “ he trailed off, flailing his hands vaguely around his torso. “This.” “Because of what?” Shirley asked, eyes widening and voice getting higher in mock bewilderment. “You mean because you’re pregnant? Oh, wait, or has your mother not discussed the ‘birds and bees’ with you yet?” she teased. And there occurred the exchange pictured above. “Reuben,” Shirley said then, focusing kind eyes back on him. “I didn’t mean anything by what I said. I can’t give a friend a compliment?” “Shirley…!” he started to protest, raising a hand. “I really do think that you look nice,” Shirley went on. “And healthy!” “A-ha!” Reuben exclaimed, leaning in and pointing a finger at the two Partridges, startling them both. “There it is! That’s the kicker!” Shirley’s expression wavered between concerned and amused. “Now, I could’ve flown across the entirety of Nevada and the better part of Utah by now if you had just said I look like a bloated tick ready to burst!” “Reuben!” Shirley chastised him, quick on his heels as he headed for the door before exiting. Danny watched on, smirking. Seconds later, the door partially creaked back open, revealing just a sliver of him. “And don’t say that you wouldn’t have noticed if I never said anything, because I won’t believe it.” The door slammed and opened once more. “Goodbye,” came a mellower voice sans eye contact, followed by a final proper close of the door.  Shirley let out a sigh and shook her head. Even young Chris looked up from his cereal and chimed in, “That was a really weird way to say thank you!”
Well, wacky hijinks ensue.

could you rank tina aumonts movies? like which ones would you recommend the most?
Hi anon! thank you very much for your question!! :D
OK, I haven't watched all Tina's films but I have watched lots of films of hers, so here I will add my ranking and a little explanation about my choosing, I hope it will be useful :)
Tumblr media
L'Urlo (Tinto Brass) - Without any doubt I would rank this as her best role although the film is very surrealist and maybe not eveybody likes it. It was filmes in 1968, shown at some festivals in 1970 and released in 1974. Tina's role is really dramatic and great.
Tumblr media
2. L'Uomo, L'Orgoglio, La Vendetta (Luigi Bazzoni) - Tina's role as Carmen, in this spaghetti western based on the novel Carmen by Prosper Mérimée is just perfect, she nails it every second she appears in the film. The film is good but Tina is just great.
Tumblr media
3. Metello (Mauro Bolognini) - This is a very beautiful film and Tina makes a great performance, in fact this was her favourite film from her carrer and she loved working in it.
Tumblr media
4. Torso (Sergio Martino) - Another film I would reccomend is Torso, for Tina's performance, the plot, the places where is filmed and for the OST!! This film is just great and one of the first films of a psycho killer ever made!
Tumblr media
5. Corbari (Valentino Orsini) - And the last film I would reccomend (making a TOP 5 is ok? or do you want more? 😜) is Corbari. Tina's acting is great in it, her character is a very strong woman who fights for her ideals and who also takes care of her lover and friends, a very mature woman.
There are more great films in which Tina plays a smaller role such as Fellini's Casanova, but I think five films is a good list. Tina made some great choices in the films she worked in but others weren't that good, in any case she showed she was a very versatile actress that could play any kind of woman.
Thank you very much for your question!! :D

Movies I watched this Week #129 (Year 3/Week 25):
A few months ago I discovered the early films of Alice Guy-Blaché, the first ever female filmmaker, and history's first director of narrative cinema. An enormously important figure, who was erased and forgotten until her recent resurgence.
The documentary Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché shows how central she was to the development of all of cinema. A most fascinating and moving detective story laying open the amazing life of this pioneering heroine, who helped define its crafts and systems.
Narrated by (another prodigy) Jodie Foster. Like 'The Méliès Mystery' biography, these two are a must-see for any film lover.
Best film of the week! 10/10.
🍿
The short film essay Celebration Sequences gives some excellent examples of “Storytelling's Most Useful Type of Scene”: Weddings, funerals, birthdays, parties, balls (and orgies). Celebrations give a story the chance to gather every important character and let them interact for a while under the auspice of important themes such as love and death.
Because of it, I watched Kurosawa's Hamlet-inspired The bad sleep well. Coppola listed The bad sleep well as one of his favorite films, citing the wedding ceremony of the first thirty minutes "as perfect as any film I've ever seen". He then used it as inspiration for the wedding sequence in The Godfather.
🍿
The devil and Miss Jones [Not to be confused with the 1973 'The Devil IN Miss Jones...] was an unusual 1941 Capra'esque comedy, with a pro-labor bent. It dealt with some real labor, wealth inequality and capitalism issues. And, it did not paint them outright as 'communist' agenda!
The 'richest man in the world' goes underground in order to root out 'agitators' and union leaders, who cause trouble at one of his department stores. However, after working as a regular shoe salesman down in the weeds, he learns to sympathize with the cause of his new working class comrades (after falling in love with one of them, of course).
🍿
3 by French director Nicolas Bedos:
🍿 Masquerade is a sleek caper, like Jim Thompson's 'The Grifters' but on the glitzy part of the French riviera. A young gigolo specializing in seducing rich, older woman falls for a beautiful young con-artist and together they devise a long-con to bilk high-maintenance diva Isabelle Adjani and wealthy real estate broker François Cluzet. Lots of erotic twists and thrilling turns. 6/10.
🍿 In his previous, genial comedy La Belle Époque, Daniel Auteuil is allowed to participate in an immersive reenactment of any historical period of his choice. After being kicked out by his wife, he decides to re-live a week in 1974 when he met her, the love of his life, at the La Belle Époque café in Lyon. A mix of Fincher's "The Game', with 'The Truman show' but with an imaginative heart. Better than Charlie Kaufman. 9/10.
🍿 OSS 117 was a French series about a fictional secret agent, a-la-James Bond, featured in 11 films and parodies. OSS 117: From Africa with Love is a stupid spoof of the EuroSpy genre of the 60's and 70's. and the third starring comedian Jean Dujardin (from ”The artist”). He plays a self-important idiot, politically-incorrect who can't get it up, more Peter Sellers than Sean Connery. Tintin was much deeper. 2/10.
🍿
Because I don’t usually watch such low-brow low-budget trashy sub-genres, I enjoyed the crowd-funded Swiss exploitation Mad Heidi much more that I would under normal circumstances. The absurd story deals with a fascist cheese-based dictator, and a zaftig mountain girl who must escape Stalag-type prison in order to save the motherland and prevent a tainted cheese apocalypse.
As Joe Bob Briggs used to write in his early reviews "Cheese Nazis, cheese zombies, edelweiss throwing stars, and goat cheese hustlers. Mustard covered sausages inserted up the ass. About 10 exploding heads and torsos. Every Swiss cliché in the book, from 'Sounds of Music' and Toblerone to Alp horns, cuckoo clocks, cheese fondue, watches, and pocket knives - dialed up to 11. Women's prison-fu. Gladiator-Fu. Lesbo Fu. One Black Goat Peter. Drive-In Academy Award nominations for Casper Van Dien as the megalomaniacal president of Switzerland. Check it out.” 4/10.
🍿
Pierrot le Fou, my 8th New Wave stream of consciousness improvised exploration by JL Godard. Without a screenplay, and Everything Goes attitude, it's one long Pop Art of random allusions, aphorism, literary riddles and intellectual bon mots. Actually, apart from his brilliant debut 'À bout de souffle' (Breathless), I was bored by most of his films.
🍿
The Novice, another remarkable first feature by a young female director (Lauren Hadaway, who doesn't even have a Wikipedia page yet). An obsessive freshman joins her university's rowing team and is so driven to compete that she destroys everything in her path, especially herself.
Hadaway's frantic use of film language is thrilling. Also her blending of music by Brenda Lee and Patsy Klein.
🍿
As a teenager I admired Knut Hamsun, read and collected all his books. My pride and joy, and the oldest book I owned was the rare Hebrew translation of 'Hunger', published in Poland in 1889. So I stopped everything to watch Jan Troell's lionizing drama Hamsun about his final and dying years.
Hamsun was a towering Norwegian hero who later turned Nazi-sympathizer traitor and supported Hitler & Germany even as it occupied Norway. Max von Sydow plays him as a venerable 'Great Man', complex, selfish, stubborn and conflicted, and Danish diva Ghita Nørby plays his wife, who was even more pro-German than him. 3/10
🍿
Another re-watch, Edgar Wright final installment of his Cornetto trilogy, The World’s End. Immature alcoholic Simon Pegg brings his 4 childhood friends back together to recreate the greatest achievement of their youth, a legendary 12-station pub crawl. Massive drinking & mayhem mixed with an alien invasion by blue-blooded androids.
Like the new 'Demon 79' it culminates with an unexpected apocalyptic Götterdämmerung. Yeah, 'The world's end' is not only the name of the last drinking hole. Plus points for the beautiful Rosamund Pike.
With every re-watch of any Edgar Wright movie, I go back to 'Every frame a picture' showing his visual comedy style, or other essays explaining his unique editing techniques.
🍿
Instead of watching Jason Reitman's 'Up in the air' for the 5th time, I picked up his Front Runner. A bland 2018 Political drama about the fall from grace of Senator Gary Hart, caught with his fly open aboard a yacht called 'Monkey Business' while running for president.
I saw Gary Hart at a political rah-rah at UCLA the first week I came to the US in 1984. But the film itself added no new wrinkle to the usual cliches of election campaigns, newspaper editorial rooms, media ethics or the hypocrisies of public figures. 3/10.

Jacob Epstein   (US-UK, 1880 - 1959)
_
Rock Drill, 1913-15 (1974 reconstruction after the original). Ready-made, plaster (plaster figure perched on top of an actual rock drill). [eucanthos’ edit w Chemical Brothers cover]
Reconstructied, by Ken Cook and Ann Christopher. Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery collection.
Although Epstein was not officially a member of the Vorticists, the full-figure sculpture has been hailed as the pinnacle of Vorticist art. Originally a positive statement, Rock Drill stood as a celebration of modern machinery and masculine virility. In 1940, however, recalling the horrors of the Second World War, Epstein reinterpreted the sculpture much more negatively:
My ardour for machinery (short-lived) expended itself upon the purchase of an actual drill, second-hand, and upon it I made and mounted a machine-like robot, visored, menacing, and carrying within itself its progeny, protectively ensconced. Here is the armed sinister figure of to-day and to-morrow. No humanity, only the terrible Frankenstein's monster we have made ourselves into.
Epstein sold the drill and truncated the figure.
Rock Drill was a "Readymade" created at the same time as Marcel Duchamp's Bicycle Wheel, 1913.
In 2006, Tate Modern asked contemporary musicians to compose music about a piece of their choosing from the gallery's collection, under the project name Tate Tracks. The Chemical Brothers recorded "Rock Drill", inspired by the Torso
