To your last post: I love a hc that all the protection charms Yanqing wears are from Jing Yuan: he's proud of his student (son) and is confident in his abilities but deep down as a parent he's deeply worried about Yanqing's well-being, especially when he isn't near to personally insure his safety. (and Yanqing certainly doesn't make his life easier, running away to fight criminals and go on solo missions kskdkd). He totally prays to Lan
P.S. I love your fics and headcanons about the HCQ and Yanqing so much! Thank you for writing them!!
Hello!!!! I'm so glad you love my work, I really enjoy making them for everyone to read!!!
I know this reply is a bit late, I am behind on answering all my asks 😅
In canon, I have a headcanon that Jing Yuan took Yanqing in when he was a little baby, barely a month old. Jing Yuan was already so tired of his role and his life when he came across Yanqing. He was absolutely taken in by the baby, who seemed to babble endlessly and cry when Jing Yuan set him down. With this new sense of fatherhood also came a sense of fear and anxiety since babies are so fragile and Yanqing was so, so very curious.
The first was the silver lock charm, which was originally on a silver hoop to prevent Yanqing from choking. Jing Yuan got it not long after he took in Yanqing. The charm was decorated with auspicious symbols for Yanqing to live a long and healthy life. He knew a long life was a small ask for Xianzhou Natives, but he had seen war and knew full well how easy it was to die. Yanqing enjoyed the charm greatly, especially the little tinkling sounds the bells made.
The second was the red string on his ankle, a symbol of protection and good fortune. Yanqing was probably about 6 months old when he got the anklet. A gift from Jing Yuan, he had heard of the tradition from Yukong when she got Qingni and Tingyun a red bracelet. Survival is based on luck 50% of the time and he prayed that Yanqing could receive all the good fortune he could get.
The last one was the bells, a bracelet that was also given to babies for good luck and protection. The bracelet was bought in conjunction with the lock charm but Yanqing had a habit of sticking the bells into his mouth so the bracelet was removed of out of fear it was a potential choking hazard. It was given to Yanqing at 1 year old when he outgrew the phase of shoving things in his mouth and instead started the crawl off. The jingling of the bells quickly signaled his location and allowed everyone to keep an eye on him. In the early years, the bells were the most useful protection charm Yanqing had.
While they did not get rid of his anxiety, they did assuage it a little bit. A little bit of hope for Yanqing's safety and survival and a symbol of Jing Yuan's love for his only son.
Please feel free to send more 🥰

To be honest when I first played Star Rail I didn’t expect them to make Luocha this shady.
Like, it’s established early in chapter 2 that the only reason the Astral Express crew gets into the Luofu is because Silver Wolf hacked them in (which almost gets them arrested). So... how did Luocha get there? How could he possibly show up after them? He wasn't already on the Luofu since he didn't know why everything was on lockdown, and he was heading out to meet with Tingyun so he wasn't traveling with her, and since HER ship was the last to come through before the Astral Express... uh??
Additionally, despite the docks being on lockdown for multiple hours, Tingyun was there with guards— what was she looking for? Survivors? Seems unlikely, since everybody was evacuated a while ago, and she’s someone from a trade guild, not a rescue professional. Sure, maybe she meant to look for Kafka, but she’s displeased when asked to do this later on… and if she’d been looking for somebody why not use a Diting to begin with, since that’s what everyone uses to track Kafka down? Is it only because she’s a Foxian and doesn’t need one, or was she looking for someone who wasn’t supposed to hide from her? Was she looking to meet with Luocha... DESPITE THE LOCKDOWN THAT SHOULD BE STOPPING HIM FROM COMING IN?
We know the amount of time between Trailblazer, March + Welt leaving and Dan Heng leaving the train by himself is something like half an hour, so there’s no way the docks re opened long enough for Luocha to casually get there by accident. Either he’s been there since before lockdown and hid (until Tingyun's ship came in?), or Silver Wolf also let him in, possibly using the Astral Express as a cover.
Then, after Tingyun's gone, a lone rookie Cloud Knight wound up in the exact same area, and found someone Tingyun missed (although the Foxians are noted to have sharper senses). If Luocha had been hiding, why wasn't he hiding from Sushang? If he wasn't hiding, how did he get into the port? It doesn't make sense... for a honest man.
I think it’s most likely that he’d been hiding in that area waiting for a contact to lead him inside the Luofu, though I’m not certain whether it would be that half an hour or two days. Tingyun was looking for him, as he later confirms that's who he was set to meet with… maybe since she was distracted by the Astral Express crew, and in Jing Yuan's direct line of sight, Sushang was sent to meet him instead?
This sounds like it could be intentional. Like, just look at the facts. Cloud Knights move in squads, but a legitimately less than two decades old rookie was sent in the allegedly evacuated danger zone (WHERE AT LEAST ONE ENTIRE SQUAD ALREADY GOT BEATEN) alone to "rescue civilians"?
Whoever thought sending Sushang alone was a good idea was using her as a tool, most likely a tool to sneak Luocha in. It’s made very clear that she is NOT strong enough to be there alone, she gets wounded and then downed even with Dan Heng’s help and Luocha has to heal her. Additionally, she has no idea about safety protocols, since she sponsors both of them in without asking questions, even though Dan Heng is forbidden from entering the Luofu.
Sushang is actually quite perfect here. She's new, she's very young, she's eager to prove herself and save people, she's very uneducated and lacks knowledge that would help her point out Luocha (or Dan Heng) as suspicious. Additionally, Tingyun does know her, as seen in her voicelines:
About Sushang Sushang is very kind and comes to my shop everday to ask: "Is business difficult? I'll help you!" "Did anyone smash your shop? I'll help you!"...
She’s the perfect scapegoat if someone needs to take the fall for dangerous people sneaking in later.
Now the question is WHY. Why would Luocha need to hide despite his cover as a merchant, why would he need to get snuck in by a naive Cloud Knight when Tingyun seemingly fails to meet him, we know he’s been on the Luofu before so this is clearly a special occasion...
And most suspiciously: Why is Tingyun's "About Luocha" line this, when he explicitly says that he was going to meet her?
A businessman from beyond the sky? And he's not on the Whistling Flames' records... Weird, why can't I remember him?
There’s also Luocha's suspicious coffin, and his Abundance alignment… HM.
Tingyun's sussy fascination with the Abundance could give her a motive to lie in her voiceline... She seems worried about Foxian lifespans. Her character stories show that she does genuinely care about Yukong and the Luofu, but considering that she only has a hundred odd years left and Yukong knew her as a child, Yukong probably doesn't have that long left. Maybe she wants to find a way to extend her life? Being her successor as Helm Master gives them a close relationship to ponder upon...
Another possibility is that she's being genuine, of course. Since Luocha has been shown to use the Abyss Flower and has the ability to reconstruct structures he understands similarly to the Core of Reason/Void Archive's power, he might have access to the memory-altering Fenghuang Down divine key, too. In which case, she wouldn't be lying...
Hard to tell which is the liar for now, though.
As for WHY he might have these divine keys, whether it's because Luocha could be Void Archives in disguise, or because he's a callback to Seven Swords visual novel's version of Otto Raksha, also remains to be seen. Both are in the realm of possibility.
Since an Emanator was the one to sneak it in... Could it be Luocha, and the Stellaron was once hidden in that coffin…? "Someone he met once" seems to be something of an understatement considering dangerous vines seem to be coming from it. Dude are you hiding a whole ass Yaoshi in there or something?
Conclusion:
Luocha is suspicious, and either him, Tingyun, or both are lying.
Tingyun was most likely looking for Luocha when she met the Astral Express crew instead.
Sushang is being used big time, though Luocha doesn't seem to have it out for her at least (he had numerous opportunities to let her die and didn't) so we can probably count on him continuing to keep her from dying. I'm sure this will not backfire in any way. Cough.

NOT THE BEST ROOMIE! 🥀 BLADE
synopsis: sharing an apartment with blade isn’t the best option. there’s many reasons why but your number one reason is that he’s secretly crazy. he might be. well, he is crazy. and he’s also the killer going around xianzhou. double whammy.
cw’s: cursing, mentions of murder, violence, reader stays strapped
notes: another idea i had in mind. but he’s js so…. fine. written with a modern au in mind, mild hsr spoilers???? (i can’t play anymore so….. idek if it would count as spoilers. 🤷🏾‍♀️)
genre: action
songs recommended: frankenstein by rina sawayama, drama and trick or trick by aespa, crazy girls by toopoor, proud mary by tina turner, outside by big boss vette, mascara by deftones
having a roommate isn’t bad, but if it’s with a guy who’s cold, somewhat unapproachable, and his room’s decorated all black with led’s as the only light source? in your eyes, that’s a red flag. unlike your room, covered in cute band posters, sanrio figurines, a makeup cart in the corner, natural light filtering in from the pastel yellow curtains, and a speaker blasting twice and other artists that you like, as well as fashion magazines being plastered on your desk and your computer.
but how did you become roommates with blade? well, that’s what he likes to call himself. in his words: it disgusts him when someone uses his real name. which is understandable. the day he moved in with you, your life changed for the worse. well, he was kicked out of his last apartment due to some discourse and he couldn’t find a place to stay. well, he did stay with silver wolf and kafka but decided to move out after ‘the incident’.
“so, you’re the quiet guy everyone on the block is talking about! i’m your roommate felicity, it’s soooo good to meet you-!”
you’re ignored by him because he’s carrying his stuff in. all he says is: “i have no time for introductions. thank you for letting me stay.” it hurts your feelings a little bit because of how dismissive he is. but you don’t mind it, he’s still warming up to you.
after a few minutes, you knock on the door to his room. no answer so you just *creeeeaaaak* open it a small bit. “i was wondering if you needed any help- AEONS!” what awaits you is a sight. he’s the complete opposite of you! everything’s all black, including his curtains. “ummm…. wow. that’s something..” you mumble. he seems to have a lot of stuff from different countries. keeping note of that.
“do you need help? those are a lot of boxes.” you ask him politely. he just seems to ignore you, why? but a few seconds later he responds with just a flat “no thank you. i do not prefer help.”
the night came to xianzhou faster than lightning, and you ordered and got something delivered for dinner, you were eating and binge watching the newest drama that came out on netflix recently; when you realized that the other container in the bag was untouched.
blade said he would be ‘headed out for an evening walk’ which was quite odd because there was a serial killer going around xianzhou, the media said that whenever he finished his “job” he would leave a red spider lily. which symbolizes death in a sense. the focus around you shifting to the paper bag on the counter and the ambience of the tv became muffled. you have a very bad feeling in your gut, you feel as if you might regurgitate everything you’ve eaten these past ten minutes, your head spins, you feel weak. but after that sensation goes away, a news report flashes on your tv screen. it was of a new killing. just in the newsroom.
you recognize the person who was killed… it was your colleague tingyun, who was very much possessed but didn’t realize it until jing yuan did an exorcism in front of everyone that same day the realization hit him. “…nah. that’s fucked up. all the way fucked up.” you mumble. you hurriedly get up from the couch and throw your trash away. before unplugging your phone and smart watch. you fiddle your thumbs and put in the passcode, unlocking it. you text your other colleagues and family. to make sure they’re safe. they all said yes, except for a band of people you were close friends with. march 7th, caelus, stelle, welt, dan heng, and himeko. a few minutes later, yukong reaches out and asks if you’re safe. same with jing yuan.
you reply with a no due to the fact your now not-so-roommate was the serial killer going around xianzhou. you had to deal with him before his next victim.
“that’s it. that draws the goddamn line.”
you say with a straight face; at this point it’s on sight. you bust the door down to your room and go into your closet and rummage through your closet to find a lockbox. a lockbox containing one thing you use in emergency situations. a gun. you place it on your desk as carefully as possible. from your dresser drawer you grab a fresh change of clothes in order to be comfortable for the night ahead. you’re hunting him down. you grab a small black purse that’s also mildly spacious. you place your gun, your phone, pepper spray and a few other things in there. including your keys to get back inside.
you then change from your usual clothes into a black crop top, a black and hot pink jacket and wide-leg pants that are also black. you were really ready to hunt down and beat blade’s ass. you swiftly run to the door of apartment to unlock it. after doing so you fiddle with your bag and finally get ahold of your keys in order to lock back the door.
after exiting the apartment building your anger is through the roof, tears of rage pricking the insides of your eyes, every sense of calm and peace is out the window. what’s on your mind is vengeance, answers and his motive. well you bet that jing yuan and them are hot on his trail. they may be. but they can’t really catch him. after a few hours, maybe six-seven hours later you catch him in the rain. soaked in blood, sweat and rain water.
“BLADE, YOU’RE FUCKING SICK!” you scream at the top of your lungs over the rain battering down, pouring down buckets. as if the souls in heaven above were sobbing about this encounter they were witnessing. “I WOULDN’T HEAR THE GODDAMN END OF IT! MY ROOMMATE BEING A SICK ASS KILLER?! YOU’VE LOST ALL MY RESPECT!”
“i am sick? me?! hahaha! you must have the wrong impression.” he charges at you with a knife his eyes wild and his hands and clothes are covered with blood. but he runs to gracefully. but with full force he charges at you until… you pulled it out. your gun. that stopped him in his tracks.
“you ain’t realized i stay strapped did you? you really thought i was defenseless?! surprise surprise… YOU MANIAC!” you spin kick him in the face, the whiplash of the kick mixed with your power and strength had him seeing stars for a few moments. after a few minutes of hand to hand combat, a handsome figure with long black and turquoise hair, his aura being serene and calm. it was dan heng. your best friend. “felicity, enough.” is all he says. his deep turquoise eyes staring down the killer known as blade.
you still breathe heavily all while you’re upset, angry, confused, and genuinely filled with such rage. “dan heng i really recommend that you let me go so i can beat his ass to a pulp-“ he shushes you with just a glare. “enough, my dear.” is all he says in order to have you centered and refocused. but blade on the other hand still has that crazed look in his eyes. “dan heng… old friend, i should have killed you when you betrayed them.” he smiles with a mad look in his eyes. but you were waiting… for a signal. and it happened.
in the nick of time… authorities came and took matters into their hands. taking blade back to the shackling prison where he belonged for him to rot for months to come. after that whole incident your friends decided to help you pack up his stuff. over the next few weeks, you yourself were recovering from such an awful situation. with a smile on your face just like the old times.
…or would he come back? like he allegedly promised when you visited him. you don’t know, you just had to be careful. even in such good times such as this.

As per request, I will assign the Redacted cast Honkai Star Rail mains (also because I have been all over this game since release and am therefore most certainly the most qualified person for this job):
Asher: Still waiting for Fu Hua to make an appearance, but he almost cried when he saw Himeko and did cry when he pulled her. The Honkai Impact 3rd vet is now a Himeko main.
Baabe: Herta main because they thought she was cute.
Milo: A Jing Yuan main whose main team is based on follow-up attacks.
Sweetheart: A Welt Yang main who almost threw their phone the first time they saw and recognized him (they, like Asher, are also a Honkai Impact 3rd player).
Angel: Hook main solely to cause chaos.
David: Refuses to play this game, but would likely be a Clara main if he were to play.
Darlin: So far all of their pulls on standard and all their lost 50/50s have resulted in an E3 Gepard, which they've taken as a sign from whatever higher power that they must turn this man into a dps.
Sam: (Actually good at this game btw) has a team full of supports only and mains Asta.
Lovely: Serval main "because she's hot" (Vincent 100% agrees).
Vincent: Has been saving for Kafka since day one, but then Blade came out, and now all his Stellar Jade is gone.
Gavin: Yukong main (I tell you this, as a Yukong main).
Freelancer: Silver Wolf because "Why do the enemies always have the toughness I can't break with my current team?!"
Lasko: Somehow turned March 7th into a possible dps by building her follow-up attacks (also plays the freeze team of Herta/Pela/March/Gepard).
Lasko's Co-worker: Best Bailu build in all of Dahlia because god knows the d.a.m.n. crew doesn't build their healers properly.
Huxley: Bronya, because he likes playing and building supports.
Damien: Seele, because he likes doing big damage.
Kody: A very edgy Dan Heng main.
Elliott: Sushang main because big c-
Sunshine: Yanqing main. Don't ask why. I just feel like it.
Guy: Sampo. No explanation needed, I hope.
Honey: E6 Natasha which was originally built because Guy has no idea how to build healers correctly but after E6, Natasha just became a dps. Guy is scared of their build.
Besite: Qinque main because Bestie and Qinque give off the same vibe.
Blake: An Arlan main because symbolism.
Ollie: Pela main. He somehow knows her full name and how to write it properly.
Mentor: A Tingyun main because they think she's cute.
Aaron & Smartass: Preservation and Destruction path Trailblazer. This was Smartass' idea because they thought it would be funny.

Heyo. Anon from before, and I wanted to say congratulations for beating Belobog!
I appreciate the encouragement, and I figured that I should inform you of what I'm up to in the game. I have nearly done almost all the hidden and side quests that I can access at Trailblaze Level 20. But I am still there. Still farming.
But in my perpetual state of farming, I thought of your response to my post, which is how ruthless HSR is for new players, and I wholeheartedly agree.
So I did enough quests and stuff to pull on the beginner warp and ended up with Gepard as my lone 5*. Tried for Robin too, but didn't get her, unfortunately.
Even with Gepard, I legitimately could not do the two fights for Equilibrium 1. Gepard is arguably a good shield, but because I'm still in the beginning stages, I can't trigger his shield often enough to get protection from enemies, so my characters die. Couple that with the fact that I only really have 3 DPS units in my account - Physical Trailblazer, Dan Heng, and Serval, and it just got so frustrating.
I had to take a breath and walk away because I got so frustrated. I tried every team under the sun with the units I had leveled. I tried two sustains in my team with March 7th and Gepard, along with Trailblazer and Dan Heng. I switched out Trailblazer for Serval. I switched March 7th for Serval. I switched Dan Heng for Serval. I tried switching March 7th with Natasha (as much as I could build her). And on and on and on.
It was infuriating to me that despite grinding and leveling up my characters, their traces, and their light cones to the absolute highest levels it could go, I still died by a large margin. It wasn't even close.
As I kept dying over and over, for me, that's when I had the thought of the Gacha system completely screwing over my hopes of progression.
In my gacha pulls on the beginner banner, I ended up with more 4* light cones than characters. That isn't a bad thing. But the 4* Light Cones I did pull, I can't use. I have no Nihility units. I have no Imaginary units. I have no Quantum Units either. Aside from Natasha, I have no other Abundance units. Already, that means that I have a very limited selection of elements that I can use to fight against enemies, and my team building is really limited.
Furthermore, I got a lot of characters with repeating elements. They are characters I can't use to their fullest potential. Case in point, I got Tingyun in my pulls on the beginner banner. I've heard she's great. But because I can't reliably heal or shield every turn, I can't swap her in because it means one less sustain unit. She's a support, yes. But she can't support if she's dead.
On top of that, she uses lightning, which also means that she's vying for the same spot that Serval is. I could try to shove her and Serval in a team together, but then if I come across a unit that's immune or resistant to lightning, my damage is nonexistent.
So back to the teams I was trying and failing to do Equilibrium 1 with - one of my issues with having two sustains (either Gepard and Match 7th or Natasha) is that my team becomes very Skill Point (SP) Hungry. For Gepard, March 7th, or Natasha to be able to do their sustains, they need a skill point, which takes away from the ability of my DPS to do any sort of damage. And on top of that, since the Equilibrium enemies have more than one in the horde, I'm playing a game of... can the shield or I hold out long enough to heal from the relentless enemy attacks?
At that point, I found the game frustrating because it felt like I was spending all my time doing SP management. I couldn't break the enemy shields because I didn't have the elements to do so. I couldn't do damage because I couldn't break the shields. In my latest attempt, I was surviving yes, but because of how long I was engaged in the fight, the computer I was using overheated and shut down in the middle of the fight.
So guess who had to do the fights from the beginning once again?
At that point, I was on like try 5 when the computer I was using overheated. I tried again, but gave up my play session after I died.
I'm bad at turn based combat. I fully admit to that. But I find it messed up how you can literally level up a character's levels, traces, and light cones to the max, and still not be able to clear.
I play Genshin too, which makes HSR all the more frustrating. While I found the beginning of Genshin hard to get used to, I could still clear content if I leveled up my characters, their talents, and their weapons to the max. I could visually see enemies dying quicker because of the effort I put into my characters.
But not HSR.
I get that the way I play HSR could be a skill issue. I fully get that, especially as I'm bad at turn based combat. But it is frustrating, especially after spending 20+ hours grinding my characters to as high as I can go, to know that I still can't beat the dang trial to ascend my Equilibrium level.
I'm gonna hope that at some point, I get lucky with enemy RNG and I can squeak by by the skin of my teeth to ascend my Equilibrium level and advance the story.
But until then, it's back to the Calyx grind.
thank you thank you! please do, i love hearing other people's experience with games and stuff ᰔᩚ
orgh…. yeah, it's definitely super ruthless especially with team comps. i hope you at least have friends who have maxed-out characters so you can clear the calyxes everyday without too much pain??
this is a very amateur opinion and i'm not sure if it'll help much… but as you said, i think gepard is more usable in later parts of the game. as of now you won't be able to use his shield that often. i'm seeing my brother's build and you also need energy regen, which i don't think you've even unlocked in the relics at your state of the game (idk if it plays a major difference but it feels like it would). idt you can build him that efficiently in the beginning, and if i remember correctly there are not many enemies that will do AoE attacks anyway. i'd say swap him out for march 7th.
i find asta really useful and is generally a good support, or, since you have serval, maybe she could work too? if i remember right, i think i went for dan heng-bronya-trailblazer-march 7th for equilibrium lv 1 quest, but you can always replace bronya with serval/asta maybe? trailblazer also swappable with natasha if you find march's shields isn't making it.
sobsob i already get frustrated reading your whole story, i can't imagine how painful it is for you ;;; have you tried looking at some guides online? there should be ones that can help with directing which team you need to use to specifically clear that quest, and with f2p characters. 20+ hours is INSANE…. you did a lot more than me because i completely disregarded almost all side quests. atp when you level up your equilibrium you'd be ready for equilibrium lv 2 trial orz

Team Pt.1- Ensemble & @/crystalkat6747 OCs
Return to File
Recovery date: May 4th, 2024
Description: Hello I just got an idea from rewatching the Xianzhou quests, what if my OC's, Kesshou and Kakeru arrived on the Loufu, the specific time when they arrive would be after the abundance deer was defeated but just before Phantylia revealed herself, Kesshou was originally going to visit the Loufu to visit someone very important to her, but when Kakeru received word of the stellaron he decided to go there as well because he already close to the Loufu, and the two of them meet up with Tingyun, the trailblazer, March, and Welt Yang when they got to the alchemy commission. Most believe that Ali's were extinct and the few that did were sworn to secrecy, luckily since Ali's can conceal their wings they can somewhat pass as normal humans.
Notes: This work was recovered in conjunction with @crystalkat6747, we thank them for their contributions. If you want more information on these characters there's this post on Kesshou and this one on Kakeru, but you should be good to read without them.

Kesshou leaned over her cousin’s shoulder as he brought the ship down into Cloudford.
Her eyes darted across the approaching landscape. There were cloud knights patrolling and mara-struck corpses strewn about, along with thick branches and smatterings of golden leaves. It looked like a wreck.
She straightened up and pointed to a spot a bit away.
“There’s Yanqing,” a sense of urgency saturated her tone.
“I see him. Go wait in the back, I will be there in a moment.”
She steadies herself against the wall as the ship shudders upon landing, squinting at the harsh sunlight that pours in when the door hisses open. With her free hand shielding her eyes, she can make out Yanqing waving at her as he stares behind her. The door barely finished its descent to a ramp when Kakeru strode past her, leaving her to follow on his heels.
He may no longer be the heir, and it may be proper for him to be following her as the current heir, but old habits die hard.
Yanqing greeted them both before leading them towards a starskiff, his pace was brisk, and taking them to the Alchemy commission.
“What happened here?” Kakeru asked, face set in a stern expression.
Kesshou and he were sat across from the Lieutenant, their royal upbringing obvious in the way they held themselves.
“There was an incident with a stelleron and the Ambrosial Arbor, the crew of the Astral Express is helping us handle it.”
“Why did you not ask us for aid?” Kesshou pressed, concern written across her face. “I, at least, could have come.”
Yanqing shook his head, turning to look out the window. The cousins followed his gaze to see the lingering glow around the still blooming Ambrosial Arbor. It would be a lovely sight if they didn’t know what it did, what it was. An embodiment of the abundance, and the curse placed on the people of the Xianzhou alliance.
Kesshou swore that in her reign she would repay the alliance for all they’d done for her people, her kind. She swore she would try and lessen their suffering, be it by finding a way to help with mara or remove their curse of longevity all together. And yet they wouldn’t even call her for something like this.
“The General only asked for their help because they were already looking for the stelleron,” Yanqing said, seeming to catch on to her thoughts. “I’m sure he would have called you if they weren’t here.”
His eyes drifted to Kakeru as he finished, though the other man was still staring down below.
A great warrior, though perhaps his teacher was rubbing off on him.
The starskiff slowly came to a halt and opened up. Yanqing waved them out and followed, directing them towards the meeting point.
Madam Yukong had been the one to hail them upon entry. At first she had simply tried to send them away, citing internal matters that prevented them from accepting visitors for the time being, but once they’d identified themselves she’d sent for Yanqing to pick them up. He’d been on patrol in the area.
Kesshou had been on her way to the Luofu to visit and run into Kakeru on a planet nearby– her ship was in desperate need of repairs and so she’d been forced to travel with merchants. He’d informed her of a transmission from the IPC he’d caught about the recent situation, and offered to let her catch a ride. That was how they’d arrived here, together, despite being on two very different paths of exploration.
One of them was on a mission to find his father, and the other was on a mission of betterment for her people. Somehow their paths always seemed to lead them back together, back to the Luofu.
The three soon met up with Fu Xuan, who dismissed Yanqing and took the two Ali the rest of the way.
Something in the air made their wings bristle, but Fu Xuan only promised to explain once they met up with the Trailblazers.
Thankfully they didn’t have to wait long.
“Master diviner, you’re back!” A knight greeted the three as they entered the makeshift camp.
The greeting caught the attention of who must have been the Trailblazers as they didn’t look familiar. One face, however, was familiar.
“Tingyun,” Kesshou greeted the Amicassador.
Tingyun looked towards her instantly at the sound of her name, though there was a lack of recognition in her eyes. She did not light up instantly like normal, only smiling and waving once Kesshou’s face twisted slightly.
Where she might expect a twisting feeling in her chest, Kesshou instead found the crystals of her wings prickling.
“Wow,” a pink haired girl gaped in awe, “Ali? I didn’t think there were any still around!” An older man with a cane next to her cleared his throat. “Sorry.”
Fu Xuan ignored all of it.
“I have kept you waiting, but the deceit of the Disciples is laid bare to me now.”
The Trailblazers were just as out of the loop as the two Ali, something they were grateful for as it forced the master diviner to explain everything. They were caught up on the Sanctus Medicus and the happenings with the Ambrosial Arbor before the pink haired girl took a stand about doing the Luofu’s dirty work.
“The Cloud Knights assault was to demonstrate our power to the enemy head-on… now it is time for the unexpected. Please, come with me.”
She led them towards a spot overlooking the Elixir Crucible, explaining that the Disciples were using it to disperse smoke that caused the Xianzhou natives to lose themselves to the mara.
As Fu Xuan spoke, Kesshou slowed her pace and fell into step with Tingyun. She leaned in slightly and dropped her voice to a whisper so as not to disrupt the others.
“Are you alright?”
Tingyun turned to her with a gentle smile.
“A little tired, but my dear benefactors have been excellent bodyguards.”
There was something off about Tingyun, something Kesshou couldn’t quite put her finger on. Whatever it was made her wings bristle, and Kakeru was clearly picking up on it as he kept throwing glances at her.
“It seems we’ll have to reschedule our plans.”
Something in Tingyun’s eyes seemed to glint as she replied, “yes, we will.”
“Caelus, Mr.Yang, what do you think?” March 7th asked.
“We will join you,” Kakeru said before they could answer. “You would not be handling this alone.”
That seemed to make her perk up a bit, and ease any hesitance the other two had as well. As the Trailblazer’s discussed their answer, he turned to Kesshou for her answer and received a nod. He was confident he knew the answer anyway.
The group set out towards the Crucible and quickly handled the smoke.
“That arrow of yours is remarkable,” Kakeru commented as they dispelled the last bit of smoke. “It is not too dissimilar from my daggers.”
“Thank you!” March chirped. “Your daggers are pretty cool too, and that thing you did where you flew up and then zapped that one guy, so cool!”
A small smile crossed his face and he nodded. “Thank you.”
“Making friends I see,” Kesshou hummed.
Though the light hearted mood quickly vanished as they approached the main Crucible and spotted the leader of the Sanctus Medicus. Kesshou’s wings flared out, wrapping everyone in a shield as she raised her sword and Kakeru redrew his daggers.
The fight was… too easy, even with the master diviner’s help.
Something was still horribly wrong.
“The Ambrosial Arbor’s descent… will bring us undying bodies…” The leader groaned, struggling to her feet. Her words earned varying responses from the group ranging from disgust to annoyance. “The one who gave us the Stelleron… said that…”
That piqued their interests and put them back on their guards. There was definitely another attack coming. They just didn’t expect it to come from behind them.
The woman’s ramblings trailed off as she pleaded for her master’s aid, every word putting them more and more on edge.
“Tsk, tsk,” Tingyun’s voice cut through the tension, only Kesshou pulled her eyes off the enemy to look back, “little pawn, must you force me to intervene directly?” She shrugged. “I’m loath to flout my philosophy of destruction. Never mind.” She crossed her arms and let her gaze rest on the back of the Master Diviner. “It would seem the time has come for other means of dismantling the Xinazhou from within…”
Her heels clicked against the stone ground, echoing through the tension. She brushed against Kesshou, sending her a wink.
“Tingyun!” Kesshou yelled, dashing forward and sliding to her knees as the Foxian collapsed. The sickening crack of her neck echoed through the Ali’s head as she pulled her head into her lap.
“Benefactors… allow me to reintroduce myself…”
Kesshou was yanked back by Caelus, and she stumbled to her feet behind him. She drew her sword and brought up shields around everyone once again as monsters from the anti-matter legion appeared from nowhere.
“I am Lord Ravager Phantylia.”

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Ooh uhh Gepard definitely snuck on me. During the Belobog story I was very neutral and then one day I was like NO, LOVE. LOVE THAT BOI.
The character everyone else loves that I don’t: Aventurine. And this is absolutely zero hate towards anyone who writes him and I can say more about it but then it feels like shitting on someone's fave character cuz I have several Aventurine mutuals and know that I care you.
The character I love that everyone else hates: See I don't know who is HATED but my instinct is to say March 7th. Queen, I love you.
The character I used to love but don’t any longer: I don't love Tingyun as much as I used to but I still love her better than most <3
The character I would totally smooch: Kafka. Take me Kafka. Robin. Take me Robin. Gepard, Stelle, Jingliu-*i get dragged off stage*
The character I’d want to be like: Kafka cuz I wanna be a dashing coat thief with a hot voice yeah
The character I’d slap: Aventurine.
A pairing that I love: Robinhill save me. Save me, Barbenheimer. Also ofc LiuBai. Oh my god why can't I think of any other pairings.
A pairing that I despise: Me x My No Robin Guarantee.

omg jing yuan !! as soon as i met him i knew he was gonna be a fav of mine, and his deal with the finches just sold it. i really love his cn va. he was also really fun to play as for that little stint he was part of your party, i got the awakened dan heng card Right before that final battle which felt perfect and now they have this guy and im like i NEED him his mechanic lags my entire laptop. the xianzhou luofu has been very fun to get to know so far, i do love what dan heng/dan feng and jing yuan have going on, and i guess blade is part of that? i love edgy characters but ironically he's felt like the most boring of the cast so far... but that means i still have two of the quintet yet to meet i think! i cannot guess who theyd be right now. the timelines theyre working with are so funny to me like i guess dan hengs supposed to be 700 years old but also still a teenager? being eternally 17 sounds like some horrific curse. which im still not entirely sure of what he did but that seems undeserved. speaking of which reincarnating (?) and then ending up befriending someone who looks more than passingly like your old life's old friend (the trailblazer and jing yuan's visual similarities are a coincidence im sure but its funny to me) is such a neat concept i hope they touch on. + SEELE AND BRONYA!! they were an amazing part of that storyline i want them on my team so bad. I just got the missions to go back and see whats up with them so i'll have to check it out... when i first continued the story to get to the xianzhou seele was visiting and i thought the game would make her disappear after the warp but she was still there... i was like we've taken this kid 500 million light years away from her home planet we've committed a crime here. ANYWAY this is a mile long i hope u have a good weekend nd get rest o7
yeaaahhh jing yuan's va is so good!! i love playing on cn tbh the other dubs dont hit the same idk... i dont have him tho (f) and both times his banner was on i didnt have enough jade to pull for him 😭 first time bc i spent everything on seele, second time bc of sparkle KHFDKJGFDG literally my roster is almost all the girls (not you topaz. and silver wolf was bc i lost 50/50 💀) and barely any guys (i have dhil and luocha and dr ratio bc he was free... all the others i skipped and im gonna skip aventurine as well LOL) can u tell im a lesbian :'))
and i thought dan heng was like in his early 20s??? but none of it rly gets explained so KFDJKDG we do know viyadhara when they reincarnate become children again and then age up before they go through the whole egg-reincarnating thing again. but like in his prev life he was several decades old and looked the same anyway, yet blade/yingxing at the time was like. an old man (the only "mortal" among them 😭). and then baiheng and jingliu were around the same age as jing yuan? wait actually jingliu is older since she's his master but yeah. it IS interesting to see how their dynamic has shifted tho but you'll see (if you havent gotten to that part yet in any case, i think if you finished the tingyun/emanator of destruction part you should've already known abt most of this due to companion quests!)
also YEAH KDFJHKJFDGD it's so funny that characters from different planets can visit the astral express even when they're not on/near their home planet like oh... i guess we kinda abducted you, lol. although, hey, look at it like this: you can show them entire fields of grass or something which they don't have on their home world...! (and obvi you can just take them back to their home world in a snap 😌)
also my weekend was great!! went to a film festival and talked to friends and had a good time overall fdkjghfkjdg idk if i already said this but saw zhu yilong on screen twice (!!) and also met the director of the movie he was in it was super fun <3 def needed that lol

Before I post screenshots about HSR’s Ver 1.2 storyline, here are my thoughts on it
*WARNING*: May contain spoilers for Ver 1.2 so be cautious when reading it
Are we still here? Good! Let’s proceed:
- I instantly regretted being Trailblazer Level 60+ because now the enemies are a struggle and I only got lucky because I got Silver Wolf and Luocha with me.
- Speaking of, it took me around 100 turns to defeat the Sanctus Medicus goon. The wolf enemies are basically the hardest mobs to take down sadly.
- Managed to meet up with Fu Xuan thankfully and my goodness, I ended up taking lots of screenshots of her.
- Anyways, the Alchemy Commission is quite a breathtaking place. Lots of great scenery.
- Did the task of shutting down the machine that spreads mist that’ll turn the Cloud Knights into mara-stricken and thankfully using the Camouflage paint thing I made beforehand to conceal myself.
- Dan Shu’s boss fight was legitimately hard and I only succeeded thanks to the team composition of Luocha, Silver Wolf, Yang and Jing Yuan.
- Was NOT expecting Tingyun to be revealed as the Lord Ravager Phantylia or rather the ‘host’ of it. Also the expression she gave before she snapped her neck gave me the chills. Guess Tingyun being suspicious since the Ambrosial Arbor’s awakening has been pretty well foreshadowed in a creepy way.
- After some time when Fu Xuan send what has happened recently to Jing Yuan and some speculation on what has happened with the real Tingyun whether or not she existed in the first place, we boarded the ship that leads us to Scalegorge Waterscape.
- Meanwhile with Dan Heng, Sushang and Luocha, both arrived at the Alchemy Comidsion where the three of them went their separate ways. For Sushang, she’s reporting to the nearest Cloud Knight captain, Luocha has to be someplace else and our boi Danny is going to search for his friends!
- From there, there were several foreshadowing that there’s more to Dan Heng and I really like it to be honest because of the subtle buildup. Also the boat cutscene is lovely and photogenic.
- Me when I see Blade and Kafka: 🥰😍
- Me when I saw my boi and very first 5 star unit Yanqing: 😆
- I’m quite curious tho I wonder how does Kafka even managed to control the Mara within Blade. That must have taken a lot of power but I’m pretty sure from Kafka’s POV, it’s just child’s play to her.
- Imma say this but the way Daman Mills voiced Blade is quite amazing and very different from his other roles like Yotasuke from Blue Period. The way he just laughed maniacally, the way he said ‘Don’t hide’, man these are so good!
- The boss fight with Yanqing is thankfully story-mandated and the cutscenes for it is quite dynamic.
- Yanqing copying what Jingliu has taught him in his Companion Quest is quite formidable!
- Thank the goddess Kafka stopped the fight because she sense the arrival of Jing Yuan.
- Me when I saw Jing Yuan: I’m not gay for him but- 👀
- Kinda a little sad to see Blade and Kafka go but hey they decided to take a backseat and so.
- Speaking of which, love how Kafka has a bit of a Tired Mum™️ vibes within her alluring and charming prescene at least when it comes to Bladie and Silver Wolf lmao.
- It’s nice to see my OTP of Dan Heng x Jing Yuan finally being real /joke but no fr, it actually turns out that Jing Yuan knew Dan Heng, or rather Dan Feng.
- Actually, I find it pretty funny how Dan Heng kept the Dan in his name and only changed his second name or Chinese character when he reincarnated.
- P.S. I need to know Danny’s secret on how he managed to hide his long hair, pointy ears and different outfit. Though part of me thinks it’s some kind of Vidyadhara magic.
- Anyways, our boi Danny and best husbando Jing Yuan caught up with the main crew and wowzers the way March was the first to speak about Danny’s different appearance is just out of pocket.
- Anyways, using Dan Heng’s true form in story-mandated battles is the best!
- It’s kind of funny how Danny is still the POV character but oh well I have him spoke to March, Yang and the Trailblazer but it’s sort of funny how when speaking to Caelus/Stelle, they just give head nods and remain silent, more or less reflecting the Silent Protagonist trope.
- The cutscene where Dan Heng revealed the Scalegorge Waterscape temple is a sight to behold.
- Seeing Jing Yuan trust Fu Xuan on the duty to General to her if he didn’t make it is just 🥹 (I love these two ok)
- Anyways, avoided the enemies as usual using the Camoflauge tool because I’m severely underleveled.
- The temple riddles are a tad bit annoying but I got through to them alright.
- Reached to the ending and now we’re kicking Phantylia’s ass! And we’re using a story-mandated Jing Yuan as well! (Thank goodness because my Jing Yuan is underleveled as heck)
- Seeing Phantylia’s true form is quite a sight! I love how balance the design is.
- My final team ended up being Luocha, Sampo, Yang and story-mandated Jing Yuan.
- The flowers assisting Phantylia is just straight up annoying because it leeches Skill Points but defeating them can help you recover them.
- Jing Yuan’s voiceline for Phantylia is just pure awesomeness! Props to Aleandrjo for voicing him.
- Having Dan Heng be summoned in the middle of the boss fight like back in Jarilo VI’s boss fight against Cocolia? SUPER AWESOME!!
- Defeating Phantylia is quite hard but we did it-
- Oh fuck oh no!! Jing Yuan is captured and is about to be turned into a Voidranger! Thankfully Danny saved the day!!
- Also you can’t convince me that he was about to Princess carry Jing Yuan too as well!
- Anywho, to conclude, Phantylia is gone for now and Jing Yuan more or less declared a war against her and the rest of the Antimatter Legion before being collapsing from exhaustion and have to be brought back to rest.
- Overall, this quite an engaging story and I hope the rest of the story in HSR is like that as well in future updates!
Anyways, these are my thoughts on Ver 1.2 storyline.m and I hope you like them!

HI THERE! IM BACK FROM MY TRIP! And holy moly i didnt missed a lot???? (i think..? I’ll have to read back your post but i want to send an ask now!)
First, love the new theme btw. Yaoshi is also my fav aeon from the aeons we currently know! They are so pretty and divine and i did have a huge stupid smile when Yaoshi kissed us in the simulated universe THEY JUST WANTED US TO STAY SAFE!!!!!!! I sometimes wonder if Hoyoverse is just building them up to be someone you should hate just to make plot twist that turns out, them just simply doesnt know the horrible results their actions does. They do it with good intention but didnt know the results would be bad. But i honestly like their ambiguous morality that hoyoverse have for most of the aeons because well they’re aeons they’re gods ofc they wont follow human morality.
Second, your second oc you have rn is pretty interesting. So i have QUESTIONS!
1. What do they look like? Ik that you said you’re not finished with their design but are they like in a child/teen body but has the mentality of an adult? (Something similar to bailu i guess)
2. What are their element?
3. What does the other aeons think of Ambrose? Like ‘why the hell does Yaoshi have a little human with them’
4. Is Lan and by extension the Xianzhou Alliance aware of Ambrose’s existance and special connection towards Yaoshi? since their relationship with the said Aeon isnt the typical relationship an emanator and aeon would have (i hc that Yaoshi is known to particuraly have a good relationship with their emanators but Ambrose is noticably their favourite one child)
Thirdly, can i just say something? Since i get busy a lot, I dont get to instantly play the new update which sadly leads me to be easily spoiled. Case in point, Tingyun infamous neck snap. I was just casually scrolling on youtube when i saw ‘Tingyun neck snapping in 4 languages’ Like wth youtube!? I try to just forget about it but the mind could never. By the time i do get to play and get to play the quest, i already knew her fate and just keep giving her the side eye. Ik her fate but idk the reason and stuff leading up to it. It was an interesting experience to say the least
Lastly, i am proud to say that i have FINALLY done Dan Heng IL companion quest and have researched enough that i can FINALLY continue on the brainrot i keep talking about, i might finish it this week if i can manage my time better but we’ll see. So keep your eyes wide open!
I hope you have a lovely day/night, now i should go to bed as im tired like hell.. BYE

HI BELOVED HELLO <333 oh i am SO excited to talk about ambrose. they are so fucking RRRAHGHG i love them....... pleasmelejldjd......
i agree!!!! you cannot call an aeon "good" or "evil." none of them are either of those things. good and evil are just human perceptions of morality, and divine beings like aeons cannot be placed into those human boxes (which is why i think the xianzhou's attitude towards yaoshi is so. odd. bro it was YOURRRR ancestors who looked for THEM!!!! THEY did not look for YOU ALL!!!!!! YOU GUYS looked for THEM!!!!! and hyv really wants me to think yaoshi is the "villain" here HELP AKJSJSGJUFBAJ) AND YAOSHI KISSING US CRIES SOBS SCREAMS they have such a gentle and nurturing soul in my brain. it is so hard for me to look at them and think "yeah that's a villain" THEY'RE NOT CRIES
i don't know if i prefer the idea of yaoshi being completely 100% aware of the consequences of their blessing, or being completely unaware and being so consumed by their path that they cannot see the harm they're doing. i think both interpretations have their own appeal. the second one is definitely more agonizing, though. either way, i do not see the abundance as a villain personally. aeons are not human. human morals cannot be applied to them.
and as for ambrose--
ambrose is, physically, a young adult! a very young adult. think eighteen or nineteen. i want them to be chronologically older than most people on any of the xianzhou alliance's ships, though, so i am working on an explanation for why their mara is less severe and has not completely consumed their consciousness.
i think they're either physical, fire, or imaginary. i haven't decided yet. i'm open to suggestions.
this is SO funny and i love thinking about this. i think most of the aeons were like... what the fuck. What Is That. why does yaoshi have a little human. what the fuck. i think nous would get along w/ them despite nous' involvement with the xianzhou; ambrose sought to be freed from the limitations of mortal comprehension in order to learn more and see beyond their home world, after all. and really, i don't think nous would give a FUCK about the conflict between the hunt and the abundance. they don't fucking care bro they are more concerned with other things LMAOOO. ambrose clashes really badly with nanook because they have a deep set love for humanity and the universe, whereas nanook... does not. the child of abundance, ambrose, does not like the destruction at all so they are ALWAYS going around and eliminating the antimatter legion when they can. IX could not care less about them rip..... IX's apathy is a stark contrast to ambrose's infinite kindness and passion for existence. in general, ambrose doesn't seek out any of the other aeons except nous. nous and yaoshi are the only ones they really talk to.
I AGREE I AGREE i think yaoshi is one of the aeons who really likes their emanators! ambrose in particular is like an extension of themselves (perhaps this could contribute to why their mara is less severe? ambrose is but an extension of their aeon, after all. their aeon's power probably does not hurt them as bad as it does to those who do not share that kind of bond with yaoshi; i think yaoshi can literally FEEL when something is not right with ambrose and vice versa. like, they share a sort of metaphysical bond). lan knows about this, and therefore, so does the xianzhou alliance. ambrose is regarded as an enemy, a thing that needs to be eliminated from the universe... even though they did nothing wrong. ambrose honestly doesn't care because fuck it, you know? there is no point in lamenting the loss of potential allies when those potential allies seem to vehemently hate their parent... but ambrose has learned from yaoshi to have love for every living thing in the universe, so the hate is very one-sided. they are not just a pathstrider. they are an emanator. they cannot emanate their parent's will and strength if they are hateful. so, they have a gentle and tender love for life and that does include the xianzhou alliance. the alliance sees their softness as patronizing, unfortunately. ambrose avoids lan like the fucking PLAGUE because they know that lan would absolutely take any given opportunity to remove them from the universe, and yaoshi would absolutely come to their aid if they sensed that ambrose was in danger. and ambrose cannot be responsible for aiding the hunt in eliminating the abundance. if they survived, and if yaoshi happened to... not survive, they would not be able to live with themselves. so they don't bother trying to make amends with the xianzhou or lan.
NOOOOOO YOUTUBE SPOILERS ARE THE WORST. THEY ARE SO UNAVOIDABLE. TUMBLR SPOILERS? THOSE CAN BE AVOIDED BUT YT.......
ahh that's awesome! i still have to do it HSKNKHSBGKA but you're welcome to brainrot in my inbox whenever you'd like to <3
rest well!!!!

ADKHWBGADWTAHDTAH THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING TO MY QUESTIONADHAHSMDWABDSABDW AHWDN sorry if im getting annoying HAHAAH
I'm curious about what Yanqing was like in his teenage years lol or like how was he as a student? or like any memories with his parents emememememe dbweuew sorry im not good at explaining
eat well
Hello!!!
No need to apologize, I enjoy getting asks! They really make my day!
I'll split them into two with Yanqing as a student and Yanqing as a teenager. I sprinkled in a little mention of his parents since I wasn't sure. Do feel free to send another ask if you want some more or something different!
Yanqing as a student
Yanqing is a great student both in terms of academics and Cloud Knight training.
For Academics, he's incredibly studious partially due to his perfectionist nature but also his parents' expectations. While their expectations are not incredibly high, they were not okay with him just barely passing. As he got older, he did not need to ask his parents for help as often, but if he did, he would usually only ask Dan Feng.
Yanqing excelled in his Cloud Knight and swordsmanship training. Jing Yuan and Jingliu personally took care of training him once he was able to lift a sword. While Jingliu was the stricter of the two, she still spoiled him a lot more than when she was teaching Jing Yuan. It was very obvious from an early age that Yanqing was a prodigy when it came to wielding a sword.
However, he was also expected to learn how to fight with other weapons. While the Cloud Knights have basic training in fighting with a variety of weapons, Yanqing was expected to have an advanced understanding of how to wield a bow and spear, courtesy of Dan Feng and Baiheng. (Thank you to @ladylucina28 for helping me come up with this) Yanqing did not enjoy it and quickly dropped it once his skills were deemed passable.
Yanqing as a teenager
He is still very close to his parents. If he finishes his training early, he would go to their place of work to hang out with them. Partially for the company and partially because they will feed him whatever he wants so he doesn't have to buy it. They also give him money if he begs enough so he has developed no sense of financial responsibility.
His best friends are Tingyun, Qingque, Sushang, and Qingni. He doesn't hang out with Qingni as much once she starts her training though. He also considers Bailu one of his best friends since he'll sneak into her office so she can heal him before Dan Feng finds out about his recent batch of injuries and sends him home with no training for a week.
Yanqing, when he enters his teen years, begins being sent out to the field. While his skill has out-classed his fellow knights for years, Jing Yuan could not bear sending his child out into danger. However, there came a time when it was obvious that if Yanqing was not sent out to the field of his own free will, he would sneak out and put himself in more danger.
Of course, he does have his streaks of hyper-independence which drives his fathers up the wall. He takes on incredibly risky missions and acts without care for his own well-being. He takes his oath as a Cloud Knight to defend the people very seriously, even at the cost of himself.
As he grows older and seeks to carve his own identity, he also starts to grow insecure about his standing compared to those around him. He starts to question himself as to who he is, and what makes him valuable to his family, and it is also when comments of him getting his position through nepotism start to affect him. His self-worth also starts to tank. (sorry for the angst 😅)
This starts to put him at odds with his family who don't really know how to understand it. They all grew up too fast due to the wars and as a result never really were teenagers. There was a point where it felt as if Yanqing was on an island of his own, distant and confused. It also greatly distressed his parents since Yanqing did not want to communicate to them what exactly he was feeling since he felt it would make him ungrateful for all the care they gave him.
They, of course, do overcome it and Yanqing slowly returns to being a lot happier.
I hope you like it!!! Please feel free to send me more asks!!!

gives u a character for the meme !! speak about your muse - miss tingyun !!
Tumblr media
𝐢. 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐢 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫
when i first saw miss tingyun, i immediately fell in love (mind you those were the times when it was somehow speculated she's an upcoming genshin character). i love her design and as someone who loves the mythos concerning kitsune, i was very much intrigued! little did i know there will be much more to her. i love how she's portrayed as a meek damsel in distress, because it plays so well into my portrayal. she's anything but! yet she paints herself so in front of the stranger, to garner their sympathy perhaps? you can tell she doesn't really trust us for a long while, because she plays along with the facade, often telling us to take care of her. and then she suddenly hints at the other side of her character when she talks about the fruit. at this point many people in the fandom were like "SUS" and. yes. correct, but she's been that from the very start, you just fell for her game.
anyway, this is probably copium, but i strongly believe she's a genius strategist/schemer. considers transactions her battlefield and information her weapon - but when cornered, she will strike back, fangs and all.
as for her design, i absolutely love her color palette. red is considered lucky color in many cultures and her green eyes? quite rare as well. the color combination of red and green speaks to me on several levels but most prominently i see the vivid green snake offering red apple. the forbidden fruit seems to be integral part of her character's imagery and i live for it. also! her cheeks? chubby and cute? not to mention the fact instead of going for the "foxy eye" that would very much fit, the design team went for downturned "cute" look that is further enhanced by the placement of her makeup. just makes me think i am absolutely right with the "presenting cute but being vicious" agenda.
𝐢𝐢. 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐢 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫
so being the kind of person that absolutely loves exploring romantic sides of character, especially through various different lenses that each partner brings. let me just preface this with saying i see so many potential ships that make me go wild.
general jing yuan however, has to be one of my favorites, especially ever since i've been talking with @riftzenith. i love how they are very different and could complete each other well. also the fact that one is immortal and the other longs for immortality? both hiding their true faces/feelings? but both also terribly good at politics? please.
there is also blade and while i feel like that's another rare ship, my interpretation of tingyun especially could prove to be an interesting counterpart in that relationship.
trailblazers too! but that would certainly need more time, because tingyun started that relationship off with her mask that is difficult to take off. there's so many other ideas i have and especially when other muns come to play! kafka, luocha, sampo, bronya just to name a few!
𝐢𝐢𝐢. 𝐦𝐲 𝐧𝐨𝐧-𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐨𝐭𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫
i can't wait for her and yukong's time on screen! i feel like those two share a very strong mother-daughter relationship that i absolutely dig. yukong is a mentor figure as well and to tingyun she embodies something the foxian has been trying to immitate herself until realizing she needs to pave her own way forward.
aside yukong however, i live for the friendly rivalry i see between her and fu xuan! tingyun has probably been trying for years to wrap the diviner around her finger, but failing so far, because unlike others, she's not as easy to fool!
𝐢𝐯. 𝐦𝐲 𝐮𝐧𝐩𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫
none. i have nothing. tingyun has done nothing wrong ever in her entire life. but in all seriousness, something that irks me is the constant comparison between yae miko and her just because they have ears? they are similar in ways, but so very different in others. they would also probably hate each other for seeing so much of their flaws in the other lmao. also for those that see her as frail? think again!!!!
𝐯. 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢 𝐰𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧 / 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧
i so so so want to see more of the tingyun we got a glimpse of after the deer fight. i want to see her flaws, but i also want to see her bare her claws! i want to see her cornered and fight as a last resort, because that's her trump card! but i also feel like those things are something very few get to see and for it to be on screen means to sort of break that??
i want but also don't want her to be the final boss of the luofu storyline haha - it would mean betrayal, possibly dire consequences, but then again, seeing her true face... oomf

HSR 2-20-24
Walked around Penacony for a while nabbing up Emotion Gears I'd left around.
12x Nihility Calyx rounds for Kafka. She's one of my main DPS so I figure getting her maxed out would be pretty solid investing. Today's haul got her Talent buffed (8 -> 9).
12x Erudition Calyx rounds for Himeko. Today's haul wasn't enough to get the last Trace I wanted to get with her for now.
After that I went in for some rounds in Mirror of Chaos. Starting at the older one to get some extra stars before it's gone.
Tumblr media
LOR Stage 10: First half was incredibly smooth, the Aurumaton made me have to take things slow but aside from Black Swan getting into the red at one point I was never in any real danger. Finished that up with 25 Cycles left, and while Ratio cleaned up real quick I still finished two over the full clear limit. 18 Cycles left on this one.
Tumblr media
LOR Stage 11: The Bronya half of the first battle took its time, so I ended it with 23 Cycles left. The second half was surprisingly simple but, frustratingly, I was one action off from finishing in 20. 19 Cycles left over.
Tumblr media
LOR Stage 12: At this point I wasn't even worried about three-starring this, I was just gonna be satisfied with clearing it with no deaths. First half went reasonably well, and outside of having to tank 2 Flamboyant Gores The Deer didn't feel that bad. Wrapped up The Deer with 13 Cycles left. Kafka was actually surprisingly easy to deal with, although I'm annoyed that Welt ate it at the very last attack meaning I 0-starred this one. I was at 30 stars total anyway so it's not like it cut me off a reward but, man.
Tumblr media
DOL Stage 7: First stage of the new one for me! It's an earlier stage so this wasn't hard. First half went down with 28 cycles left, but the Swarm took a little longer and I wound up finishing with 23 Cycles left overall.
I'm really glad Player From the Other Side is the battle theme for this MOC, it's one of the great themes from the 2.0 OST. Not sure if I vibe with the Turbulence for this period since it's clearly modeled for the benefit of Sparkle, arriving in a week-ish, but it's fine.
After that I did a little work on Light Cones - got Planetary Rendevous and Good Night Sleep Well up to 50 and I'll probably spend a little time getting materials for them. PR is gonna be something I swap out onto Yukong for my mono-Imaginary build and GNSW is probably gonna stay in storage until I can get it superimposed, but eventually it's gonna be Sampo's new cone to replace Fermata with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also got a new copy of The Day the Cosmos Fell to superimpose onto Himeko's copy (S1 -> S2). Also opted to get Tingyun's LC to L80 (from 75) since I've been trying to use her more lately.

CBGC Chapter 44 “A New Chapter”
TN: If anyone has any corrections or feels like the translation is incorrect, feel free to send me an ask so we can figure it out, because I'm flying blind here. -----------------------------------------------------------------
A sword fell, the momentum was magnificent, devestating, and invincible. The stars of the sky are gathered in that sword, condensing them, and those eyes looking at Tian Cefeng from afar.
Li Xinmei couldn't see the situation on Tian Cefeng, but she could see the sword. Fang Dingyuan sat on his knees stupidly. He saw Li Xinmei looking up hard to see the main temple, so he lifted her body slightly and let her head rest on his leg.
The sword fell, and the light flowing in her eyes dimmed. Fang Dingyuan could not calm down. After a long time, his shoulders could not stop shaking, and his eyes burst into tears.
The man should not kneel lightly, and the man does not cry easily.
Obviously this was a rival that he had lost, and he used to look down upon her, but now, she has made him feel like he has been stabbed with a knife.
Throughout his life, he couldn't do what she had already done. Not impossible, but unexpected. She was bent on going out of the Wuliang Sect to see the land. He never thought that one day, she would use the formation method to draw a sharp sword and cut it to the main temple, where Wuliang Mountain and Elder Gu were.
Will Wuliang Sect be stunned by this? Fang Dingyuan had no other thoughts at this time, he just lowered his head and reached out, gently closing her lost eyes for her.
...
When the supreme sword ray smashed towards Gu Fengyang, the suppression put on Su Tingyun's spirit also weakened instantly.
Su Tingyun soul was extremely weak, but at this time, she remembered that she had to pull someone back. Quickly getting up with the extinguished flame, she didn't even fear the sword rays from the sky, she rushed directly to Gu Fengyang, stretched out her arms and tackled him.
The giant sword fell, and Su Tingyun was shrouded in bright sword light, but she didn't feel any extra pain. Is it because the pain was so extreme that she could no longer feel the pain of the giant sword's chopping?
However, in that light, Su Tingyun seemed to hear a soft call.
"Grannie ..."
Her heart seemed to be tightened momentarily, and an indescribable sorrow arose. Just then, Gu Fengyang's screams sounded, his body, his soul!
The flesh, which had already been exhausted, could no longer handle it, and was split into two sections by the sword. His soul was again severely damaged by the blazing flames, and Gu Fengyang's ancient soul flew away from the body, and entered the hall just before Su Lijiang flew past.
Liu Feizhou, who had been nailed to the stone pillar, had not died, and he was desperately trying to stuff medicine in his mouth.
A blow from an elder in the Crossing Tribulations period made him feel like he had been broken. If he had been seriously injured before this Crossing Tribulations Elder, and his mind was not on him, Liu Feizhou's life would be gone at this time.
But now he is also alive, and fortunately he has brought a lot of medicine.
Although Liu Feizhou was very weak, when he saw a real person entering the hall, and the ancient elder's spirit came out, he still shouted with all his energy, "Be aware Su Lijiang, he wants to posses your body! Madam Wei was almost refined into a human pill! "
If it is a surprise attack, the Su Lijiang will be more likely to be possesed because it is hard to defend, but a reminder from Liu Feizhou makes Su Lijiang vigilant, the soul is tense, and wary.
A thin camel is still larger than the horse, and at this time Gu Fengyang, although the soul was seriously damaged, he still had more strength than Su Lijiang.
Golden light rushed into his head, Su Lijiang's figure was motionless, and his face was stupefied.
"I saved you and brought you here just to take your body!" Gu Fengyang shouted sharply, "It's like that Wei Yun saved you, just to force you and humiliate you!"
When bringing Su Lijiang, he discovered the weakness of Su Lijiang through a magic array. So after he went out, he ordered Su Lijiang to get people back.
It's better to be alive, then dead, and good news to get dead.¹
But if he could do it again, he would never bring that mark of disaster into the cultivation world! Now that the matter has come to an end, he can only forcibly lose his body, and also loses his cultivation realm, otherwise Su Lijiang's body won't be able to bear his soul.
However, the soul's damage recovered very slowly. If he lost his body according to the original plan, and combined his strength of soul and spirit with the gathered resources, he could use the body of the Su Lijiang to break through the Crossing Tribulations period again within a hundred years. As long as the news of the Supreme Elder's fall is surpressed, Wuliang Sect is enough to stand tall.
But now ...
No matter what, he must succeed. Su Lijiang's conviction is unsteady, and his soul will be completely devoured by himself.
Hearing Elder Fengyang's words, Su Lijiang was shocked in his soul. Anyone who knows his esteemed master turned out to be a hungry wolf in sheep's clothing. He saved his life and led him to cultivation, just to take his body. It would take a while to accept.
He always thought that Elder Fengyang asked him to take Wei Yun in order to hone his mind, but now he knows it is so he can be disturbed by the mental demon.
At that moment, Su Lijiang even lost control of his body, and Elder Fengyang, who had seized the opportunity, immediately shouted, "Chu Yu, what are you still doing? Kill Wei Yun!"
After Su Tianyun burned Gu Fengyang, she could not support it anymore. The flame radiating from her body seemed to be the last glory of her soul. The flame of fire was extinguished, and her body was invisible in black. The whole person fell to the ground, and in front of her was a handful of black ash, which was the remains of Gu Fengyang's body.
"Get up, get up!" Liu Feizhou was nailed to death. He was desperately struggling, and started bleeding from the wound that had started to heal after taking the medicine, but even so, he couldn't move half an inch. His soul was suppressed by Chu Yu, who was holding a sword, and he could not do anything.
"Damned old lady, get up!" Liu Feizhou continued to shout, knowing that at the next moment his throat was tight, his head looked down, and his throat was bleeding. He did not even see her drawing the sword, and she already cut him.
Before entering the hall, Liu Feizhou she cut off his eyelashes, and a blood line was cut off his neck. This time, it is no longer just a line of blood.
But Chu Yu could completely kill him with a sword and completely cut off his head. Why didn't she do this? Liu Feizhou didn't have much time to think about it, because he saw Granny Wei slowly lifted her black head that could not be seen, and the long sword in Chu Yu's hand pointed directly at her skull.
At the critical moment, Su Lijiang snarled in his throat, and he shouted, "Don't!"
Chu Yu's hand trembled slightly, and she did not look back, but she could see Su Lijiang's struggling expression, his red eyes and pained face, his trembling body.
"Dying and yet still struggling!" Gu Fengyang soul violently rallied, crushing towards the Su Lijiang with a strong spirit power. At the same time, he gained control of the body again, "Chu Yu, what are you still doing? Don't forget, you have my soul imprint on your soul!"
Chu Yu's shoulder trembled slightly, and the sword in his hand stabbed forward. At this moment, Su Tingyun's finger burst into flames again, shocking Chu Yu, and she jumped a few feet away. After this time, Su Tingyun's ring became dim and dull, and the aura that was constantly flowing into her body re-injected some strength into her body like back light and then became completely silent.
Chu Yu's face turned pale, and the sword in her hand was destroyed by the fire.
Chu Yu's sword is Her destiny magic weapon, this time, her primordial spirit was wounded, and spat out blood.
Su Tingyun, who fell to the ground, had some vitality again because of the cool aura that finally poured out of the ring. Gu Fengyang's body was destroyed, and his soul was in the Su Lijiang. Now she was weak and barely regained consciousness. She didn't know what to do.
Her only strength was the fire in her soul. Now, she was so weak that there was only an almost soy-bean sized light left, and the ring could no longer provide her with any help.
Is she waiting for death?
"Run." Liu Feizhou's throat was still bleeding, he only said this word.
Su Tingyun stood up and ran out subconsciously. When passing the Su Lijiang, she yelled out, "Su Lijiang is alive and well, you can live well after so much pain, why give up now?"
Su Tingyun stumbled and ran out, and Chu Yu got back up at this time and chased her with a sword.
Su Tingyun panicked and ran, but she didn't know where to run.
She found that Chu Yu's sword behind her forced her to go in one direction only. Su Zingyun thought for a moment. This is Wuliang Sect. It is impossible for her to run away as she is now. She is going now. The only place to escape can be the forbidden horizon.
There, no one will chase in.
It is death, entering the forbidden horizon, but there may be a line of life. This Chu Yu, is it trying to force her past the forbidden horizon ...
Forbidden World is not far from the main hall, Su Tingyun has not arrived long before running. Chu Yu's cold sword directly behind her. she did not hesitate for a moment, and jumped directly off the cliff.
The ears are whistling wind, the tip of the nose is an indescribable smoky smell, and when the body falls it is as if it is cut by numerous small blades of wind. Su Tianyun is extremely weak, and she can no longer hold on to conciousness. She faints.
Chu Yu stood beside the Forbidden World, her eyes dim.
Just then, a strong wind came and fanned her directly.
Su Lijiang stood by sullenly, "You deliberately forced someone to come this way here, why didn't you just smash her into pieces?"
Chu Yu got up and knelt in front of Su Lijiang. "Elder Hui Hui is the elder, and after suffering from my deceased person, Chu Yuerong is suffering from her. I hope to take revenge on Wei Yun slowly. Sealing the beast within the bounds of the earth will definitely smash her corpse into pieces and peel her skin off it. "
"Humph."
Chu Yu thought that the Supreme Elder had succeeded in winning the house, and there was a trace of sadness in her heart. But the next moment, she suddenly saw Su Lijiang's face change again, at the same time, she heard an outcry, "Junk, don't give up!"
The battle between Su Lijiang and Gu Fengyang Yuanshen for the body is still going on. The head of Wuliang Sect has already reached the main temple, and they don't know what happened.
The array of battlefields was full of people. Everyone was confused. They don’t know why the mountain guards attacked their own people. Several elders of Wuliang Sect, including the Lord of the Rune Palace, were badly injured. They were afraid that it would take them to decades in seclusion to recover.
But before seclusion, they have to figure out what happened.
"What are you doing here?"
"Child, what are you doing here?" The scolding man was the Law Enforcement Elder, and he glared at Fang Dingyuan and the girl in his arms, yelling loudly.
At midnight, it appears near the map! It's just that these two disciples have low strength, and it is impossible to be the one who starts the mountain guard array.
"Speak!" Seeing his disciple kneeling in a daze, Fang Dingyuan's Master couldn't help but remind him.
At this moment, Fang Dingyuan calmed down, "Xiao Mei said she was leaving Wuliang, and said goodbye to me." He looked dull, and his eyes flashed with tears. "She was going to leave, not coming back."
The Law Enforcement Elder asked Elder Fudian, "Is this correct?"
If a person wants to leave Wuliang Sect, he must have the sect's consent. Such a big event must be known by Elder Fu Dian. Ning Xuzi quickly said: "This is true, she just said goodbye to me."
"Then why did she die?"
"A lot of sword rays came out, and we were very close." Fang Dingyuan cradled Li Xinmei firmly, and couldn't help crying.
He wasn't really sure she was dead, and there was always a hint of hope in his heart. He always feel that these are masters of medicine, and it is not difficult to revive someone, but now they all have said that she is dead.
Even if he died, he had to protect her and conceal the things she did. He had to protect her, even if it was only her body.
"It doesn't seem to have anything to do with them." The Law Enforcement Hall Elder came to the conclusion that although the sword array first attacked those with higher cultivation, there were also some disciples with low strength who were unable to avoid or panicked and got hit by the sword rays. There were many casualties.
The death of a Li Xinmei was irrelevant at this time.
"The dead are thrown into the forbidden horizon."
For thousands of years, the rule of Wuliang Zongzong has this rule. The dead are left to the Forbidden Horizon. The purpose of this rule is unclear. The time is too long and the years have distorted the history. However, it seems that there is a beast that is sealed underneath.
Someone came to drag Li Xinmei's body, and Fang Dingyuan held on tightly, "She is dead, she is dead ..."
"She is already dead, and a golden core cultivator is dead, so don't hold her so tightly! Let go, you're welcome."
Fang Dingyuan could only watch the corpse be dragged away. He looked up at the direction she was leaving, and looked at her floating skirt corner. It had not moved for a long time, like a stone sculpture standing in the dark.
...
There was white fish belly² in the sky, and the extremely fierce and cruel night finally passed.
Yaoyang jumped out of the mountain stream, but did not dilute the darkness shrouded in Wuliang Mountain.
Such a huge change in Wuliang Sect is unknown to many people in the practice world. But many of them did not include him.
"Your Highness³ doesn't seem very happy today." Ren Jia pinched his companion Ren Yi, who stood beside the bucket, with a small elbow.
The corner of Ren Yi's eyes twitched, his heart couldn't help growling, and royal him was wearing such a thick mask, how could you tell that he was unhappy.
Ren Jia smiled, "So I'm A, you're B."⁴
The cultivator sat on the stone steps. Next to him was an emerald-colored jade bowl with a crystal-clear grass growing in it, as if carved from jade.
If someone else saw it, they would exclaim, "Langa grass, what a rarity!"
At this moment, a cultivator rushed to report: "Most of the orchid tongue grass in the entire cultivation world died overnight. It was finally found that the orchid tongue grass planted in the large gates such as Haoyue Sect were found!"
It's no wonder that royal him is unhappy ...
It's okay, the grass is gone, but it can grow again!
But the old woman who could tell a story and had a rough voice was gone.

Yang Tingyun, one of the “three pillars of the early Catholic Church” in the late Ming period, has often been studied by scholars seeking to understand why he converted to Christianity and what Christian philosophy he embraced. This article shifts the focus to Yang’s secular concerns after his conversion. The article delves into the issues of Yang’s reassessment of Chinese history and political systems under the influences of Christianity and Western learning. It concludes that Yang’s Christian-centered interpretation of Chinese history and his aspirations for European-style institutions led him to question the importance of monarchy in China, with the result that he shifted his interest to the state, declaring an urgent need for pragmatic learning to strengthen state power. Citing the Jesuit fathers’ swift mastery of the Chinese classics and Western languages’ unlimited applications, Yang further became critical of the Sinocentric worldview of Chinese tradition.
Cheng, Y. "Changing Cosmology, Changing Perspectives on History and Politics: Christianity and Yang Tingyun’s 楊庭筠 (1562–1627) Reflections on China." Journal of World History, vol. 24 no. 3, 2013, pp. 499-537.
Before 1592, there is unfortunately a paucity of sources regarding Yang’s life in Hangzhou. The only extant source is the diary of Feng Mengzhen 馮夢禎 (1546–1605), a retired official from Hangzhou who enjoyed organizing scholarly parties to discuss poetry and philosophy. Through Yu Deyuan 虞德園, Yang’s tongnian classmate (i.e., people who took the same examination) for the juren degree and also a good friend of Feng’s,8 Yang became acquainted with Feng and joined Feng’s literati circle. Feng’s diary vividly records the late Ming gentry’s life at Hangzhou. The literati of Hangzhou favored tea-drinking parties over wine-drinking parties. Their gatherings were usually held by the West Lake, or at some Buddhist monasteries, and their time was spent reciting poems with service provided by singsong girls; discussing Buddhism, Daoism, or Neo-Confucian philosophy, particularly the Zhezhong 浙中 branch of the Wang Yangming 王陽明 school; and exchanging views on nourishing life, as well as on ghosts and immortals.9 Through these activities, Yang, like many scholars in Hangzhou, distinguished himself as belonging to the power holders of the local elite.10
Yang Tingyun’s name disappears from Feng’s diaries in 1591, no doubt because Yang went to Beijing to prepare for the metropolitan examination. In 1592, Yang obtained the jinshi degree, having taken the examination under the Chunqiu 春秋 (Spring and Autumn Annals) category—a specialization indicating his interest in history.11 From 1592 to 1599, Yang served as the county magistrate of Anfu, Ji’an prefecture, Jiangxi, where he had close contact with scholars of the Jiangyou 江右 branch of the Wang Yangming school—a more orthodox tendency of Wang Yangming learning.12 In 1600, Yang received his new appointment as censor; he was to serve in this capacity in various places, including both the northern and southern capitals and border regions of Sichuan, Huguan, and Jiangxi Provinces. In 1607, Yang was appointed educational superintendent in Nanjing until he retired in 1609. Yang’s career as a censor and educational superintendent shows his keen concern with matters of statecraft.13 For example, Yang courageously exposed at court the abuse of power by eunuch tax collectors and mining attendants;14 he submitted a “Memorial on Tax Reduction” (Jianque shu 減榷疏) regarding the high taxes imposed in the Jiangnan area;15 Yang sent a memorandum criticizing the mismanagement of the border issues by the involved Han Chinese officials and recommended that the government grant the native Miao chieftains rights to govern themselves in exchange for their donation of grain to the Ming government. Unfortunately, the Ming court did not consider any of these recommendations.16
Yang’s major accomplishments during his early official career were in the area of education. Earlier, as a county magistrate in Anfu, he supported the Jiangyou branch of Wang Yangming learning (see n. 12). In South Zhili, Yang supervised local schools and encouraged lecture and discussion (jiangxue 講學) activities in private academies of various schools of thought, including the Zhezhong branch of the Wang Yangming school and the Taizhou 泰州 school, a late Ming Neo-Confucian school that promoted the idea that everyone is already a sage, needing only to become aware of his or her inborn goodness of heart. He donated funds to build a private academy that honored Fang Xiaoru 方 孝儒 (1357–1402), the early Ming scholar who continued to be loyal to Emperor Jianwen 建文 and was executed in 1402 together with his relatives of all ten degrees by order of Emperor Yongle 永樂 (1340– 1424);17 he also inscribed the words “Early Awakening Hall” (Xiangjue tang 先覺堂) on the tablet of the private academy that honored Wang Gen 王艮 (1483–1541), founder of the Taizhou school.18 Most important, he paid special attention to publication of books, including his father’s Yangshi shuxun 楊氏塾訓 (Instructions for the Yang Family School) in 1603; Xinggua bian 省括編 (Book of Examining the Arrow), compiled in 1606 by Yao Wenwei 姚文蔚, who was Yang’s tongnian classmate in the jingshi examination; and Qiu Jun’s 邱濬 Jiali yijie 家禮儀節 (Ceremonial Use of Family Rituals) in 1608.19 Yang sponsored the publication of these books and wrote a preface for each. Among these publications, a particular interest of this study is Xinggua bian, which may have served as the primary source for Yang to complete his Dushi ping.20 But as we shall see below, these two books are quite different in nature and say a great deal about the different kinds of historians Yang Tingyun, a Confucian Christian, and Yao Wenwei, a Confucian, represent.
[...]
In 1611, Li Zhizao’s father died. Li invited Nicholas Trigault 金尼閣 (1577–1628), Lazzaro Cattaneo 郭居靜 (1560–1640), and Sebastino Fernandes 鍾鳴仁 (1562–1621) to his hometown, Renhe, to officiate at his father’s funeral ceremonies. While offering his condolences to Li Zhizao, Yang had some discussions with the Jesuit fathers; he became fascinated with the ideas that the Jesuit fathers expounded and even invited them to his house for more thorough discussions. When he requested baptism, the fathers rejected him because his having a concubine violated one of the Ten Commandments. After resolving this issue, Yang Tingyun converted to Catholicism and was baptized with the Christian name Michael (Migezi 彌格子).26 Why Yang converted to Christianity remains unresolved; conclusions of this study propose such reasons as Yang’s high regard for Christianity’s emphasis on the “moral solidity and practicality of moral values based on human relations,” his comparison of Buddhist monks’ morality with that of the Jesuits through the issue of taking concubines, and Yang’s shifting the sources of moral authority from Buddhist stress on inner authority to Christian emphasis on external authority.27 At any rate, upon his conversion to Catholicism, Yang destroyed his Buddhist statues, stopped communication with Buddhist monks, and constructed a Christian church for the Jesuit fathers and their friends. He then tried to convince his family members to become Christians. His family—father, mother, wife, and children, but not his brother—were baptized.28
[...]
These facts, in light of the passage translated above, seem to indicate that while, on the one hand, Yang was devoted to the Jesuit fathers and the Christian community, on the other, he continued to have indirect communications with Buddhism as he still enjoyed contact with scholars of the Taizhou school and of the Wang Yangming persuasion. It is no surprise that Yang, Chinese Christians, and the Jesuit fathers (in their Chinese writings) often referred to their coreligionists as tongzhi (like-minded comrades); they often called their gatherings jiangxi (a variation of jiangxue), meaning lecture and discussion meetings, like most of the Taizhou scholars used.
[...]
Although the anti-Christian movement in 1616–1617 was disastrous for the Jesuit fathers in China, it led to an unusual opportunity for Yang Tingyun to intensify his religious pursuit. When the first anti- Christian movement occurred, six Jesuit fathers—Nicolò Longobardo 龍華民 (1559–1654), Lazzaro Cattaneo, Nicolas Trigault, Giulio Aleni, Pierre Van Spiere 史惟真 (1584–1628), and Francesco Sambiasi 畢方濟 (1582–1649)—came to Hangzhou to seek protection from Yang Tingyun and Li Zhizao. Yang constructed a wing in his house for their place of lodging and worship. As these missionaries lived in his house, Yang enjoyed daily contact with the fathers and learned the fine points of Christian theology and sacraments.36
Among these Jesuit fathers, Aleni perhaps had the most influence on Yang. The months of forced inactivity in the wake of the anti- Christian outbreak gave Aleni the chance to improve his knowledge of China from Yang Tingyun and Chinese Christians in Hangzhou. Aleni stayed in Yang’s house for a year. When the prohibition on Christianity was relaxed in 1618, Aleni frequently traveled to instruct Catholic converts in Shanghai and Hangzhou. In 1620 Aleni came to Hangzhou again to give advice on the religious ceremonies regarding the death of Li Zhizao’s mother. There, Aleni, Yang Tingyun, Li Zhizao, and some Jesuit fathers, including Trigault and Francois Furtado 傅泛際 (1587– 1653), enjoyed very friendly and thorough discussions about Christian doctrine. Sometime in 1620, Aleni left Hangzhou but returned the next year, in 1621, and stayed until 1624, when Ye Xianggao 葉向高 (1562–1627), the grand secretary who had just retired, invited him to Fuzhou to disseminate Christian teachings.37
