~~ 20 Summertime ~~

Take me back to the sweet times

The hot nights

That is where I'll be

 November morphed into December. All the days he had spent with Aurora, merging into a beautiful kaleidoscope of memories. They found themselves lying on the bed in the late afternoon heat, clothes abandoned on the floor, their bodies slick with sweat.

Henry moved down her body.

“You are insatiable”

“I have lost time to make up for and distance to account for” Henry replied, smiling into her thigh as he began his oral assault. Aurora though, fell into a fit of giggles, trying to pull her leg over his head. He held them in place with his hands, dissolving into laughter with her.

“Henry, stop. I’m ticklish”

He would stop and try again, and every time she would giggle.

Frustrated, Henry gave up.

“That sensitive huh?’

“Well, can you blame me, we haven’t left the bed all day”. Aurora said, looking down at him.

“Are you complaining?”

“No!”

“Then, I don’t wanna hear it.” And with that Henry dived back in, her giggles quickly turning into moans.

 The night found Henry and Aurora travelling up to her parents for dinner. Arriving, they were greeted by her family as well as a few family friends that had stopped by. Henry must’ve given off an uncomfortable vibe as Aurora pulled him aside.

“Listen, Dad invites everyone over, he’s Italian. It’s in our nature to be surrounded by loved ones and feed them. Don’t worry, they’re good people and no one cares what you do.”

Henry’s face softened at her words.

“I’m just nervous!”

“Don’t be, but a word of advice, always keep some food on your plate, if its empty you’ll be pressured into seconds and thirds.”

Aurora grabbed his hand and pulled him into the kitchen, greeting everyone. Henry was astounded at the amount of food prepared, and only for a handful of people.

Aurora handed Henry a drink as he took a seat next to her brother. Forgetting his anxiety, he settled into a comfortable conversation, people coming to join them.

He must’ve figured out at some point that Aurora was missing, looking around the room, he couldn’t find her.

Lorenzo walked over to Henry, replacing his empty beer.

“Where is Aurora?” he asked

“Her and her sister left to get ice cream” Lorenzo said sitting next to him.

‘Ice cream?” he asked, he had heard that correctly, right?

“Yep, ice cream. I don’t know, all I know is they were on instagram, found ice cream and went to get it.”

As if on cue, Aurora and her sister walked through the door, setting two bags on the counter.

“MUUUUUUM, where can I put this ice cream? Is there room in the freezer?” Aurora called.

Somewhere, Leah yelled back

“Make room!”

Lorenzo looked at his daughters as they unpacked the bags, playing tetris with the open freezer.

“How much ice cream did you buy?”

“$150 dollars worth” Aurora replied

Henry choked on his drink.

“Aurora, you bought $150 of ice cream?” he asked, coughing to clear his throat.

“Damn straight, its pavlova gelato from messina. They only make it twice a year for 2 weeks at a time. Its my absolute favourite, I need to make it last”

“Is 5 litres enough till June though?” Her sister asked.

“I fucking hope so!”

Henry got up from his chair, intrigued.

“Is it made of gold?”

In response, Aurora pulled out a spoon, got a scoop of ice cream and put it in Henry’s mouth.

He sucked on it a little bit, savouring all the flavours, the tartness of the raspberry, the creaminess of the ice cream, the crunch of the meringue and the sweetness of the passionfruit. He looked at Aurora and took the spoon from her, wrapping his fingers around the tub; he walked back to his seat, digging into the ice cream.

Her shocked expression quickly turned into annoyance.

“Oi, Cavill, that’s MINE!” she walked over to stand in front of him.

“Not anymore” he said as he moved the tub away from her hands. Aurora huffed and folded her arms.

“I will tell your trainer!”

“Yeah, this is totally worth it”

“You can’t eat a litre of it!”

“I can and I will” Henry said, shovelling more ice cream in his mouth.

11pm and they began the hour-long journey home, the ice cream secured in the cold bag. Much to Aurora’s displeasure, Henry did finish the ice cream. She made sure to remind him that he owed her a replacement.

All the roads began to blur as Henry’s eyes became heavy, he wasn’t sure he would last the drive back without falling asleep, the food coma starting to set in.

“You can go to sleep if you want, Henry.” Aurora said, playing with the radio.

Closing his eyes, he drifted off to sleep.

Aurora woke him as they pulled up in the driveway, sluggishly making his way into the house; he stripped his clothes and fell into the bed, waiting for Aurora to join him.

He felt her body slide in next to his. Groggily he wrapped his arms around her.

“I want you to be my date to the Oscars.”

“Ok, are you sure?’

“I’ve never been surer of anything in my life. I love you and I want you with me”.

“I’ll need to find a dress”

“You have one, wear the wedding dress.” He snuggled his face into her neck.

“Henry, that’s not appropriate”

“It is, its beautiful, so are you, I want you to wear it.”

Aurora sighed. “We’ll talk about this tomorrow”

Henry nodded as sleep overtook him.

They never did end up talking about it. Henry spent his last few days soaking in the summer sun before he left for home for Christmas. He truly felt at home here, like he had lived there all his life, there was no explaining how the summer in Australia differed from everywhere else. He couldn’t explain it, it was just as if they waited all year for it, Australia came alive in the summertime, it shone, it danced. The evenings were his favourite, sitting outside, watching the sun dip below the escarpment, the heat of the day ever so slowly settling into the night as he sat with Aurora on her back porch watching Pickles make her nightly rounds while they shared a drink. On particularly hot nights, they would saunter up to the pub and play a few games of pool, on those nights, she became very competitive, he only ever won a handful of games. The pub and its patrons content to just be in each others company, everyone knew everyone, there was never a lack of conversation. The warm nights spent with Aurora were magical for him, he felt normal, getting to know his girlfriend and simply just being, just existing in her company, he did not want to leave. Everything about her turned his life on its head.

 The day he left, he stared out of the plane window, watching to coast of Australia disappear beneath the clouds, taking him away from the summer down under and away from her. He would see her in a few weeks when she would come to spend 2 weeks with him for New Years and then for the Oscars. He did not want to go back, the thought depressing him as the plane moved over the Indian Ocean; the greyness of London suddenly felt suffocating. He did miss Kal though, that was one good thing about being home, but then he remembered his bed would be empty without her there.

It was only a few weeks, and then she would be with him. He could do this.

1. Do you and your F/O(s) go on dates a lot? sadly, no! Since we’re both really busy with kicking our careers off, dates are usually few and far between. But we spend all our free time together, and when we do have time for dates they’re really special! Not special as in like...super expensive (maybe sometimes after Mac starts moving up the ranks in the WVBA) but they’re just full of love and they’re always meaningful as well as memorable. 

2. Is your F/O(s) ticklish? If so do you use that to your advantage? He’s not super extremely ticklish but I do know of his weak spots and you BET your sweet bottom I’ll attack those spots! When he has to go somewhere early I might do so while he’s trying to get out of bed until he gives in and lays with me just a little while longer.

5. What was your first impression of your F/O(s) when you met? asfghasjf this is SUPER self indulgent but in my perfect dream universe he was smitten with me on sight and was kind of flustered and stuttery when he tried to talk to me. I thought that he was very cute! 

12. Does your F/O(s) have any habits that upset you? His insistence on pursuing a career where he regularly gets beaten viciously mildly upsets me! but those are his dreams and I wanna support him so I find other things to be upset about, like perhaps him sometimes using the same knife for the peanut butter and the jelly when he makes a sandwich. Those things aren’t dealbreakers tho!

How many pairs of shoes do you own? I’ve never taken the time to count. I will say that I own far more than I ever wear. I’d go barefoot everywhere if I could.  12. What was your last dream about? The only detail I remember from my last dream was that I was reading a book that somehow turned into a pizza??? As I was reading it?? And I was fine with it.  13. What talents do you have? I have solid people-skills, I’m a good communicator, I’m pretty creative and crafty.  14. Are you psychic in any way? We all are! But yes, I'm deeply intuitive and I have a strong connection to myself, others and the universe. Though I’d like to strengthen that skill and I keep meaning to research and practice more in depth. 15. Favorite song? I love music too much to ever choose just one 16. Favorite movie?
