February aka The Birthday Haul
I cashed in some rewards to get my biggest #bookoutlethaul box just in time for #thrillerathon. I don't think all are thrillers but majority deal with dark topics.
I've read Kara Thomas, Mindy McGinnis, and Karin Slaughter before so I have really high hopes for those.  The rest are new to me authors. I think I'm most excited for Sweet Pea, I've heard very good things!

Thrillerathon TBR February 2020
Tumblr media
I can’t believe that Thrillerathon is almost here again but I’m SO excited for this round. Thrillerathon is a thriller and spooky-focused readathon hosted by BookTubers Harriet Rosie and Emma at Drinking By My Shelf. They’ll be running reading sprints and other Thrillerathon related activities during the week on the readathon’s official Twitter page, so check that out to join in the fun!
I tend to zoom through thrillers and spooky reads, so I’ve been overly ambitious with my TBR. Cue heavy sighs and head shakes from those who know that I do this regularly and almost never reach my near impossible goals. However, the Netflix list and other tempting new releases will be put on hold, as I make a concentrated effort to blast through the nine books I’ve chosen between 15th and 23rd February.
Yes, it’s a lot and no, you don’t need to have that many on your own TBR but you’ll know by now that I love to push myself (*internal screaming*). Let me know what you pick for your own list and without further pre-amble, here is mine! -Love, Alex x
OLDEST THRILLER ON MY TBR: Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
Tumblr media
Published in 1938, this Gothic thriller has been on my bookshelf for years. As far as I know, it’s about a woman who marries a wealthy man and finds that both he and his household are haunted by the memory of his first wife. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about it from sources I really trust, so I can’t wait to finally dive in.
THRILLER WITH THE CREEPIEST COVER: The Hoarder by Jess Kidd
Tumblr media
The more you look at this cover, the more you notice and the more disturbing it becomes. I’ve been interested in Jess Kidd’s work for a while and although this is her second novel, this is the one I’m starting with. It follows Maud, a troubled, lonely carer, her eccentric charge Mr Flood and a long-buried family secret that threatens to rear its head. Full of oddity and maybe even a bit of comedy, I can’t wait for this one.
SHORTEST THRILLER ON MY TBR: The Honjin Murders by Seishi Yokomizo
Tumblr media
I am delighted that this Japanese classic has finally been translated into English after originally being published in 1973. On the night of a grand wedding, a brutal murder occurs and the entire village of Okamura is shaken up, leaving amateur detective Kosuke Kindaichi to find out what happened. The Kindle edition is only 192 pages, so I’m hoping to tear through this one!
A NEW TO ME AUTHOR: In The Woods by Tana French
Tumblr media
This was recently dramatised by the BBC (The Dublin Murders) and I deliberately didn’t watch it because I knew I had a copy of this. I believe this is Tana French’s debut novel and I have high hopes for it, as it led to her becoming a very well-established name within the crime genre. Spanning two time periods and two very similar cases of missing and murdered children, two detectives piece together the evidence and make some connections that hit very close to home.
A TROPE I LOVE: Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
Tumblr media
I’m not sure whether you can call ‘schoolyard scandal’ a trope but I’ve always been drawn to dramas that take place in and around a school or college environment. There’s something about the familiar setting being slightly offset by secret truths that I find incredibly addictive. Dark and suspenseful, Big Little Lies explores both the public and private lives of three women who meet at the school gates. That’s all I want to know before inevitably becoming obsessed.
A RECOMMENDED THRILLER: A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder by Holly Jackson
Tumblr media
Due to my not exactly secret true crime obsession, I’ve been recommended this YA thriller so many times by multiple people. When a teenage girl decides to investigate an apparently solved murder, she begins uncovering some secrets that someone has successfully hidden for years. I’m really excited to finally get to it and see what all the fuss is about.
NEWEST THRILLER ON MY TBR: Grace Is Gone by Emily Elgar
Tumblr media
When a beloved mother is violently murdered and her sick daughter is missing, a small English town is rocked. It’s up to a disgraced journalist and the woman who found the body to uncover the dark truth. With striking resemblances to the Gypsy Rose/Dee Dee Blanchard case (one of the most disturbing true crimes I’ve ever come across), I’m highly anticipating it. This upcoming mystery comes out on 20th February and I was recently accepted for it on NetGalley. So I’ll be fully reviewing it immediately -watch this space!
AN AUTHOR I’VE READ BEFORE: Rosemary’s Baby by Ira Levin
Tumblr media
I read Ira Levin’s The Stepford Wives for the previous round of Thrillerathon and this one has been staring at me ever since. Rosemary’s Baby follows a young couple who move to a new area and unknowingly garner the intense interest of their neighbours and their friends. I know that the film adaptation is considered a horror classic so I can’t wait to watch it after reading this!
THE GROUP BOOK: Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
Tumblr media
I bought a copy of this sci-fi thriller a long time ago and although I was hugely intrigued by it, I never got round to reading it. So I’d like to thank Harriet and Emma for finally giving me an excuse to! Dark Matter is the story of a man who wakes up in a lab to discover that the life he led before has gone. His house, wife and son no longer exist and someone is hunting him. It’s exactly the kind of mind-bending weirdness that I love, so I’m really looking forward to picking it up.
So those are the books that I’m hoping to get through next week -let’s see how well I do! What pulse-racing, creepy reads are you going to be reading for this round of Thrillerathon?

Happy February friends! Do you have any planned books that you want to read? I’m a #moodreader so I never really know what I’m going to end up reading every month😌. . For February I only have a set of 4 ARCs I’d like to get around to reading...but that doesn’t mean I’d like to read other books as well!! If I manage to squeeze in the time to do so, I would love to read These Rebel Waves (by @sara_raasch ), The Wicked King (by @blackholly ), and Wayfarer (by @alexbracken ). . There’s also a thriller-a-thon going on over at Twitter ( @ thrillerathon ) that I would LOVE to join.. I also have one book lined up that I’ve been SO EXCITED TO READ . I think I’ll get another thriller out from the library and then read one that I own. Oh gosh, I’m hyping myself up! SO EXCITED AHHHHH . . . #bookstagram #monthlytbr #tbr #bookphotography #booksandcalendars #theserebelwaves #sararaasch #thewickedking #hollyblack #wayfarer #alexandrabracken #photography #booktography #bookobsessed #bookblogger #bookblog #booked https://www.instagram.com/p/BtcDxKWHMS7/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1nilhwauknb6o

NEW POST: #ThrillerAThon and #TimehopAThon wrap ups! Check out what I managed to read below! #bookbloggers #booklovers #bookwrapup #readathon #bookreadathon #bloggers
Hi everyone! If you didn’t know, I recently took part in the Thriller-A-Thon – a readathon that is focused on getting through some of your most anticipated thrillers, and the TimeHop-A-Thon! If you missed my TBR on these, then you can check them out here (Thriller-A-Thon TBR! & TimeHop-A-Thon TBR!) to compare what I wanted to read, to what I actually read! #thrillerathon wrap-up
In all, I read 8 books with 2,615 pages read. Not pictured is Rolling in the Deep, which I read as an ebook. My favorites of the week are Dark Matter and The Nest, which has me all paranoid about a nest on the side of the house - the husband insists it's an old bird nest but....
Least favorites were Conclave and Rolling in the Deep, which were just too short and not entirely necessary. I also expected to LOVE Night Film and it was just okay for me :(

I know this is an insane TBR for #thrillerathon but I basically just grabbed what I either need to continue (The Vanishing Stair, The Devil's Advocate), what has been sitting on my shelves for too long (Blue Hill Blood), and new releases I have hyped myself up for (Wilder Girls). Plus, KU and Audible Escape are always contenders too. I'm starting a tad early with Try a Chapter and will see what hooks me.

Finally got my first 5-star read - this is my first Ruth Ware book but I will definitely read more from her. I did not see that coming!
Other progress: I'm about halfway through The Couple Next Door and hope to finish it today. Only a couple chapters into Wilder Girls but I've officially started it.
