29 AUGUST— The ninth and final episode of the Base x Mnet competition show Crowned aired live on August 28.
The episode started with a live view of the studio where the performances for the night would take place. After a short introduction from the host, a segment was shown of the groups preparing for their lakefront trip. As the cut began to show the first group pulling up to the lakefront houses, the segment cut off and returned to the live stream from the venue.
Quantum/phase were the first performers of the night. The clip package before their performance recounted their journey so far on the show, from their theatrical first performance of “Wonderland”, to their cover of “Come Back Home”, to their preparations for their finale performance. At the conclusion of the clip package, Quantum/phase entered the stage and gave the first ever performance of their new original song “The Real”.
Next up were Titan. Their clip package showcased their journey from the top to a disastrous fall in round two, leaving open the question of whether they can rise up again. Member HARU shared his hopes (“Titan has been practicing hard day in and out to show Gaias a better performance than we did last round. I think that Titan is ready to make our full gambit for the final win.”). They performed their song “Checkmate” at the conclusion of the clip package.
Ultraviolet took the stage next. The clips before their performance point out that Ultraviolet has yet to break the top half of rankings as they juggled the show with their world tour, but they’ve been rising as world stars outside of the show. Viewers got last words from the members (JAEIN: “This has been a pretty long journey, but I’m glad Ultraviolet got to be a part of it.” / SOPHIA: “Once the music and lights comes on and all I see is an ocean of Beyond waving their lightsticks in front of me, suddenly, I feel very brave, very bold. Kind of like now. I’m ready to give my all.”) before their performance of “ME”.
Platinum won one competition already in their careers, pre-debut, and their introduction pointed that out. After a few clips of the group rehearsing their elaborate staging, their full performance of “Finale (Show and Prove)” aired.
Lily were introduced as another group who, like Ultraviolet, had yet to break into the top half of the rankings, though they’ve been busy with a successful comeback and their tenth anniversary celebrations outside of the show. Lily’s performance of “You Think” showed new charms they’d yet to reveal through their performances on the show.
The next series of clips showed how Cloud made a strong impression in their first week and ranked fourth, but suffered from a less well-received cover of Selene’s “Decalcomanie” in the second round that earned them eighth place for that round. They came out with a vengeance with their performance of “Hit”.
Equinox won the vote among other groups for favorite first round performance, leading to high expectations set for the group. Their performance of “Dazzle Dazzle” was led into by way of a calm MINJUNG (“We’ve drawn up so many squares and zig zags, and now it’s back to the point where we draw conclusions. No nerves or claws out, I’m ready to just lay back and relax as the final performance ensues.”)
Andromeda brought their own brand of girl group mysticism to the show and managed to raise up several spots from the results of the first round to the second. With hard work, could they rise to the top? the clip package asked. Their original song performance, “Aura”, used their unique concept to show their charms.
Candy’s emotional journey was highlighted with a revisited clip of SUN crying after their first round results were revealed. Their final song promised to signify a journey of its own. Viewers heard from a few of the members (SUN: “It feels as if filming started both yesterday and a year ago. The idea of it ending makes my heart jump. The people in the competition are also all so busy. It’s hard to know when I’ll next be able to see the majority of them, and through this process I’ve been able to grow closer to many of them as well. I’m nervous, excited, but above all, I feel ready. When a door closes, you must take the sadness of loss with you, while feeling hopeful for the next door that will open.” / YERIN: “We’re determined to do our very best and our final stage will be a reflection of our passion.”) before their live stage of “So Bad”.
Selene entered the competition as the most senior group and climbed up the rankings between the first round and the second, but weren’t able to break the top three yet. The members were heard sharing their determination (KAMI: “I think those watching in the audience and those who see us on TV will be able to experience seeing a cool stage.” / MIRAE: “The biggest strength of our final stage is the Selene-ness. It’s a stage I believe only Selene could pull off the way we plan to.”). Their final stage, “Destiny”, was an emotional one and had enough impact to get the crowd singing along by the end.
Despite a last place ranking in the first round, Catalyst were able to rise up to the top three after their cover performance of Polaris’s “Dionysus”, despite a difficult penalty to overcome. Catalyst solidified them as underdogs with the potential to win, and that was shown through the clip package before their live stage of “Wolfgang”.
Calypso shot to public attention via virality shortly before Crowned began and they proved they were more than a viral trend with high rankings in both rounds so far. Member YENNY was shown in Calypso’s introduction participating in their finale song’s styling and she got the last word (“So far, we’ve been able to defy my wildest dreams and highest expectations and having come so close to being first… I think I’m a little extra greedy to actually rank first. we’ve worked hard and come so far, I’d like to be able to prove for once and for all that we’re not to be underestimated.”) before their stage of “Whistle” as well.
Polaris made an impressive showing of ranking second in the first round and then rising to first in the second round. As the current first place title holders, their pre-performance clip packaged built the suspense for how they might place in the final round, the ranking that would really count. TAEYONG shared his thoughts (“I hope that audiences will see and understand the message in our finale performance, and I hope they’ll say that it represents Polaris well.”), and then Polaris gave the final live stage of the finale with “Basquiat”.
At the conclusion of the live stages, the audience was informed that the live finale audience voting was open.
While voting took place, the episode returned to the lakefront trip. Each groups’ accommodations were shown, ranging from luxurious to cramped based on how well they ranked for the second round. The groups settled into their rooms and several clips were shown of new housemates interacting, such as Candy’s SUN and Selene’s HYOJUNG and Selene’s KAMI and Candy’s YERIN.  Cross-house friendships also shined, such as through the interaction of Ultraviolet’s LUCIA and Equinox’s MINJUNG. Titan’s DAEWON was dismayed at Titan’s “exile” ( “It’s been... an adjustment.”). Meanwhile, groupmate DURI, who earned private accommodations thanks to his first round MVP title was shown relaxing and choosing to forgo his private chef to cook his own meal.
The BBQ party that night followed. A montage was shown of groups bonding and interacting despite the tense air of competition.
A series of other moments throughout the trip were then shown, such as groups hard at work rehearsing and groups being kicked out of the warehouse so others could practice, including Titan’s DURI using his special pass, ending in a rock-paper-scissors match with Candy’s YERIN. Ultraviolet’s LUCIA was shown repeatedly helping out around other houses with their cooking and cleaning in several clips with a halo edited over her.
The second day’s lyrics competition resulted in Ultraviolet and Polaris having to switch houses and privileges.
Finally, after the extended segment dedicated to the groups’ lakefront trip, the host announced there were only five minutes left to vote.
Each group was then asked to come out on the stage, one at a time. One more suspense-building montage of the lead-up to the final ranking was shown.
“First things first, our special judges have gotten their votes in. For this round, we asked Mnet staff to evaluate both the finale performances and their personal interactions with each idol on the show to vote for their MVP. The winner for this round’s MVP is... Selene’s Kami!”
The audience cheered and the cameras focused on Kami and Selene.
“While you won’t get any special housing for this like our first round MVP, these votes have been factored into the final ranking and will help Selene’s final score.”
After the announcement of the MVP, the focus turned to the big moment.
“Voting has now closed and all of the votes are in. I have on this tablet a direct line to the vote totals. We’ll start with twelfth place. In twelfth place is a group that came onto the show with an explosive impact, but couldn’t manage to keep their momentum.”
Words then appeared on the screen behind the groups declaring TITAN won 12TH place. Titan was then dismissed from the stage.
“Eleventh place is a group that has had an amazing year. They impressed viewers and their fellow competitors alike, but not enough to become our final champions.”
Words then appeared on the screen behind the groups declaring CALYPSO won 11TH place. Calypso was then dismissed from the stage.
“Tenth place had to prove themselves on a competition show even before debut. All of the members are winners, but they weren’t able to snag the first place this time around.”
Words then appeared on the screen behind the groups declaring CLOUD won 10TH place. Cloud was then dismissed from the stage.
“In ninth, we have a group that has proven themselves over and over again in their long career, but they weren’t able to prove themselves the winners of the crown tonight.”
Words then appeared on the screen behind the groups declaring SELENE won 9TH place. Selene was then dismissed from the stage.
“In eighth place, we have a group that had a lofty reputation to live up to as performers coming into the show. They gave some great performances, but not great enough to end up at the top.”
Words then appeared on the screen behind the groups declaring QUANTUM/PHASE won 8TH place. Quantum/phase was then dismissed from the stage.
“A long string of hits and a reputation as industry greats that precedes them earned this group seventh place.”
Words then appeared on the screen behind the groups declaring LILY won 7TH place. Lily was then dismissed from the stage.
“We’re getting into the top half of the rankings now. No one out of anyone on this stage tonight should be going home dejected, but top six is no small feat. In sixth place, we have a group who, in their own words, grew in front of our eyes.”
Words then appeared on the screen behind the groups declaring CANDY won 6TH place. Candy was then dismissed from the stage.
“We have three boy groups and three girl groups on the stage now. In fifth place, we have a boy group who are loved far and wide and impressed viewers with their various talents throughout the course of the show.”
Words then appeared on the screen behind the groups declaring PLATINUM won 5TH place. Platinum was then dismissed from the stage.
“The next group is also widely loved. They’ve given their all despite busy schedules and came out in fourth place.”
Words then appeared on the screen behind the groups declaring ULTRAVIOLET won 4TH place. Ultraviolet was then dismissed from the stage.
“On stage now, we have our top three groups and our thirteenth place group. All four of these groups gave their all the whole season, but, in third place, we have a group who showed that they were an unexpected force to be reckoned with for their young age.”
Words then appeared on the screen behind the groups declaring ANDROMEDA won 3RD place. Andromeda was then dismissed from the stage.
“They might not need an introduction with how successful they made themselves in the competition, but I’ll give one anyway. They proved themselves an impressive team every step of the way. Our runner-up to the crown is...”
Words then appeared on the screen behind the groups declaring POLARIS won 2ND place. Polaris was then dismissed from the stage.
The lights then focused on Equinox and Catalyst as they were ushered from two different sides of the stage to stand next to each other. Tense music played.
“Catalyst and Equinox. One of you will leave tonight crowned idol royalty. The other will go home empty-handed. Catalyst, you’ve climbed your way up to the bottom. Have you proven yourselves by climbing all the way up to number one, or have you fallen again? Equinox, your results have been consistent. Consistency could be the strength that propelled you to the top, but it could also have hindered you and brought you all the way to the bottom.”
The camera scanned the audience, where a mix of different lightsticks and banners filled the venue.
“The winner of Crowned and our very own idol royalty is...”
Words then appeared on the screen behind the groups declaring EQUINOX the 1ST PLACE WINNERS of Crowned. CATALYST won 13TH place. Catalyst was then dismissed from the stage and a staff member brought out a trophy topped with a giant gold-colored crown for Equinox.
“Dazzle Dazzle” played while confetti fell from the ceiling and the audience cheered. The members of Equinox were given a few moments to speak in response to their win, and then all of the groups were brought out for a final congratulatory cheer from the audience for all of the season’s competitors as “Dazzle Dazzle” continued to play the show out.

😈, 💖, and 💔 for the fanfic emoji asks please!
wheee, thank you! <333333
😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers? I don't...think so? I'm sure there've been a few occasions where I've chuckled to myself as I ended a chapter on a cliffhanger, but I can't think of anything that quite fits this question. I try not to be mean to people, in general. :D
💖 What made you start writing? Oh, now you're asking. I've been writing stories for as long as I can remember, since I was a tiny little kid, and I moved into fanfic in my early 20s, although I didn't initially know that was what it was, not having discovered the internet yet (my early 20s were in the mid-90s XD ) - there were a couple of books that I felt drawn to write extra bits for (Lost Souls by Poppy Z Brite and Moths to a Flame by Sarah Ash). Then in about 2002 I discovered the X-Men comics fandom, having enjoyed the first film but felt there was something lacking, and wrote my first piece for that fandom late that year. Then I fell headlong into the Tolkien fandom and the rest is more or less history. But what made me start writing...was the feeling of having stories to tell, characters who wanted to talk, and having to write down what they wanted to say because they wouldn't leave me alone. :D
💔 Is there a fic of yours that broke your heart? Yes there is, and it's Never Forgotten. Also my original novel, which was based on a short fic. (I've just realised I missed marking its tenth anniversary a couple of months back XD ...btw that's a pseudonym, not my real name... :D )
Thank you for asking! <333333 Anyone else want to ask me stuff about fic by means of emojis?

'Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies and star David Tennant open up about bringing a classic 1970s comic character to TV screens. Tennant and Catherine Tate are set to lead three 60th anniversary specials, with the new Fourteenth incarnation of the Doctor reuniting with former companion Donna Noble. The first episode of the 60th anniversary celebrations will air on November 25 with "The Star Beast."
With the Doctor Who 60th anniversary celebrations kicking off soon, Davies and Tennant made a guest appearance on the BBC's The One Show to promote the upcoming specials, where host Alex Jones asked about the inspiration behind episode 1, "The Star Beast." Both Davies and Tennant opened up about their own appreciation for the 1979 Doctor Who Weekly comic strip, before the showrunner explained how he approached bringing the character Beep the Meep into live-action. Check out Davies' and Tennant's responses below:
Russell T Davies: Yes, that's right. Many years ago in 1979, there was a Doctor Who comic strip, which is fantastic, written by Pat Mills, drawn by Dave Gibbons, who are titans of the comic industry, about a little alien, the sweet little meep, falling to Earth. Being lost, wanting to get back home, and making friends with school children. You'd think that was stolen off ET, but it was printed two years before ET. It actually precedes it, it's a great story. So when I came back, I just thought, "Why not adapt a really brilliant story?"
David Tennant: I remember reading it! I remember getting Doctor Who Weekly as a kid. So, when I opened the script, I was like "Adapted from "The-?" I remember that!"
Davies: It's part of the fun of it. The Meep is a great creature, so innocent, so sweet, and so lovely, and you just want it to be saved. Where are the toys? Where are the plushies? But, it's my job to make those things work, and tie that into the story of Donna, who starts seeing aliens and remembering, "What's going on?" You get that to dove tail, and it's a mix.
Doctor Who Has A History Of Adapting Expanded Media For Television
"The Star Beast" isn't the first story from Doctor Who's expanded media to be brought to screen by Davies. Within his first season, the showrunner's first Dalek story drew heavy inspiration from Robert Shearman's 2003 Sixth Doctor audio drama "Jubilee." While the television story had a near-future Earth setting as opposed to an alternate, dystopian timeline, both stories featured their respective Doctors following a signal revealed to be the sole surviving Dalek following a bloody war the Doctor had some involvement in.
In the season 3 two-part story "Human Nature/The Family of Blood," Davies would again bring another tale from Doctor Who's "Wilderness Years" to screens. The story is an adaptation of Paul Cornell's 1995 novel Human Nature. While the Tenth Doctor's motivations to become human differs from the Seventh Doctor's in the original novel, the two stories are incredibly similar. Both the TV story and the original novel received short story follow-ups written by Cornell during 2020's Doctor Who Lockdown watchalongs that suggest both takes still happened somehow within the Doctor Who universe.
Though Beep the Meep may be a surprising character to jump into the main TV series, it is clear both Davies and Tennant hold a great deal of admiration for the source material. Davies' discussions about tying the story into Donna's new arc promise knowledgeable viewers will still be surprised, even if they know where the Meep came from. As such, the 60th anniversary adaptation of "The Star Beast" is both a perfect introduction for casual audiences and a welcome celebration of Doctor Who's past for familiar fans.'

Duncan Edwards reviews Grief in the Kitchen and Mirth in the Hall for Brainwashed (I missed this at the time it was published in May).
This new record is a deep collection, full of sweet spots, rich in detail, crystal clear in execution, and teeming with life. As usual, he reveals the multilayered meanings and nuances in even the most apparently straightforward songs, as with "The Bonny Moorhen" of Celtic folklore, and "Drimindown," a simple tale of a lost cow but also a devastating loss of a family's livelihood.
By my calculation, it’s still four months until the tenth anniversary of the release of Hirta Songs (I remember the hangover fireworks at the 6th November launch gig), but Folk Radio UK are always ahead of the game, including with this retrospective. They draw on old interviews, including this quote:
“Yes, I like collaboration. At its best, something alchemical happens in collaboration where whatever elements the individuals involved bring to the process merge to create something exciting and surprising, something of which an individual working alone would not be capable. Well, it’s not a given that all Scottish musicians or writers are particularly interested in Scottish traditional music and culture, or Scottish folklore and history, or Scottish poetry and the Scottish oral tradition. But I am one of those Scottish musicians who is interested in those things, and Robin is one of those Scottish writers who is interested in those things too. So in some ways, it could be said that we have some similar artistic preoccupations or a shared, or at least overlapping, sensibility. Although I’m interested in those things and drawn to the past, I’m also concerned with the future and creating new work, work which is original but nevertheless rooted in and part of some kind of Scottish cultural continuum – and I believe that Robin is, at times, very interested in doing this too! So with that in mind, I felt that Robin and I could work well together – as we had done once before a few years ago when we wrote just one song collaboratively for Chemikal Underground’s Ballads Of The Book project, which teamed various Scottish writers with various Scottish musicians. As that process had borne fruit, and as through that process I had come to form a friendship with Robin in addition to our working partnership, I felt that if were to collaborate again in the future, it could yield some satisfying results.”

The tenth anniversary Frigid Bitch was a celebration of a decade’s worth of toughing out any shit the world had handy to throw your way, grabbing your bike and slogging through the elements with whatever ragtag badass crew you managed to scrape together. Vet racers worth their salt noticed that the checkpoints on their home-printed manifests were labeled by year instead of the classic cheesy conundrum codes. What could it possibly mean???
Tumblr media
The start being remote, cyclists all over the city strategized their initial locations and prepared their maps, gear, & breakfast buffets. Clogging up cafe floors, squeezing into friends’ conveniently located apartments, or heading to the highest place they thought in likely proximity to a checkpoint; email inboxes were repeatedly refreshed as they waited for the location drop.
Then bam, there they were - in chronological order, the 9 best checkpoints from previous years’ races starting with the heart of the city and cycling down through social hubs, cliffside staircase intersections, riverside punk spots, aggressive cobbles, off road hike-your-bike sites, and of course: big ass hills. The tenth checkpoint was this year’s addition, the crown on the brow of FBX: The House of Raging Women.

Romeo
One of the best/worst checkpoints of all time, anyone following the hand drawn manifest map found themselves riding down a deserted-lookin dead end street, discovering a set of steps apparently running through resident’s backyards and flowing into a massive staircase culminating in a full-on street-signed intersection in the middle of the urban wooded cliffside and then back up the adjacent staircase to find a host of members of Yinz Run Club cheering and slinging snacks & shots. Anyone clever enough to approach from the other side had to run or ride down and up one of Pittsburgh’s infinite steep cobbled hillsides.

Rialto
The best known urban Dirty Dozen hill, clocking in at about a 20% grade average but hitting over 30% in spots. The narrow near-one-lane road shoots straight up into Troy Hill from Route 28. A brand new set up steps was a life saver for the racers not brave enough to attempt the ride up, while others resolutely blocked astounded drivers stuck behind them. Bike Pgh staff met them at the top with a hard cider reward.

The Button v2
The last time the actual Button down the train tracks from 43rd street was a checkpoint for the Frigid Bitch, race day had it completely submerged by the icy floodwaters of that winter’s thaw. This year the stop migrated slightly west and featured a mechanic and ride-your-own-margarita station sponsored by SweetWater Bikes in front of a steep gravel descent onto rocky Allegheny Riverbed that only one cyclist dared ride down. A few others bypassed the gravel entirely by scaling the weedy cliff behind the margarita machine. Volunteers waited under the glorious looming presence of the 40th St Bridge, smoke-set with tiki torches and watching to make sure no roadie-shoe-shod babes slipped into the river.

The Schenley Lake
Train tracks criss cross all over this town, and racers had to cut through another set in Schenley Park to get to Panther Hollow Lake. Volunteers at this checkpoint made all the early arrivees throw down their bikes and wait til go time before cowbelling them off in a run for their manifest stamps. Many ran, some jogged, a few sauntered, and one was heard to say “I’m not running just because some dude told me to.” Rock on.

Melwood Steps
Oh hello, it’s another set of steps. Carrying your bike is a skill, they say. A couple racers self-penalized their time on this one by blasting down the Herron Ave S-bends without catching the turn to the Melwood Staircase just across the street from the RockRoom.

Probably the best checkpoint of all time, back again from last year for double the fun. This time the overgrown sidewalks directed riders straight up to a crew of Venture Outdoors volunteers stationed at the apex of the small but mighty cobbled bump in our South Hills.

The House of Raging Women
The premier checkpoint of FBX! The HORW was never before used as a Frigid Bitch checkpoint but was once included in the first alleycat we ever hosted: the infamous Ladies’ Night race. Transformed to a surreal and dada-like celebration of the Frigid Bitch director, Bananna-LenaVille could only be found by the semi-secret back-alley entrance behind a flush of rowhouses under the shadow of Children’s Hospital. One group of riders spent precious clock time sniffing around up and down the hill block on 44th before the local post man hollered “Yinz looking for a party??? It’s in the alley!!”

The Finish
Back at the Wheel Mill a rush of racers threw their bikes on the ground and their bodies up the stairs to find the race official and fling their manifests into her hands. They celebrated, they chowed down on Revival Chili, they gabbed, changed clothes, grabbed a Necromancer Brew, and hunkered down to wait for the results. When the darling FBX MC picked up the microphone though, it was to announce something else first....

The Pittsburgh Babes on Bikes Racing Team Debut
There’s a brand new team in Pittsburgh and it’s pulled from the crew of women and under-represented gender identity cyclists that make up the massive pool of Frigid Bitch bad-asses. Powerhouse hitters in the cycling scene, the team is ready to rejuvenate racing in Pittsburgh and beyond. These babes are here, some of them are queer, and they’re out to have a damn good time racing bikes and taking you with them.

The FBX Podium
If the debut of a brand sparkling new team of killers wasn’t enough, FBX was ready to pull out the celebratory stops with the first podium announcement. ALK took over the mic to haul up the best, the brightest, the bitchiest - the longest running Frigid Bitch contenders of all time.
In first place, with ten years under her belt, having booked a back-up airplane ticket just to make sure she had a way to get to the race:
1 - Ngani Ndimbie
In second place, having missed only the first frozen fountain Frigid Bitch, here cuz she cut short a California vacation with her wife:
2 - Katharine Jordan
In third place, holding an 8 race record starting with the 2015 Frigid Bitch that only *6* people raced, the gorgeous MC:
3 - Alexandra Korshin
Honorable mention going to the 8-race record holders starting in 2016:
- Two-time tandem contestant Lauryn Stalter
- Masters category killer Frankie Montenegro
- Uncontested holder of the 9-month pregnant record and half of the banana tandem Alyssa Crawford.

Today in Fandom History: May 4
Fandom: Marvel
May 4, 2012, The Avengers was released to theaters. After three (kind of four?) phenomenal origin films Marvel decided it was time to bring together one of the greatest teams in comic book history, The Avengers. The original line up which consisted of Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man (the first/Hank Pym), and the Wasp (Cap would come in on issue four,) would be altered with the exclusion of Ant-Man and Wasp and inclusion Hawkeye and Black Widow as well as adding Captain America. Though the Avenger members in the comics are always changing to include X-Men, Inhumans, and other superheroes, the movie lineup has actually become the most well-known. The comics even started updating with the movies, bringing Vision and Scarlet Witch back into the main Avenger comic verse soon after the Age of Ultron release. We got one superhero team-up series twelve years prior in the form of the X-Men Fox Franchise (which are AMAZING) and the Fantastic Four movies (...more questionable), but it was this one that seemed to garner the most attention. Maybe it was because we got the origins to Thor, Cap, and Iron Man a couple years prior so non-comic reading audiences would be drawn back into the cinema. Maybe X-Men paved the way for future superhero team flicks. But either way, no one can deny the magnitude of what this movie did not only for the MCU, but for the state of movies today. The Avengers proved that a superhero team movie could not only work but excel. It also reaffirmed Marvel’s blending of action with sci fi and comedy, and led the way for the DCEU to get off the ground and bring the Justice League to life. The Avengers was a landmark in film history and today we wish it a happy tenth anniversary. Avengers...              Assemble!

My predictions on BSD getting animated going forward
I’ll be taking a look at the novel page counts (Japanese and English) and comparing them to the screen time they’ve gotten so far and then using this to predict how long the remaining light novel adaptations will be (approximately). At the end will also be my rough prediction/hopes for the order of some of these being adapted. I say some because I have yet to read what there is so far of the gaiden novel translations, the main story manga has essentially still been on the DOA arc almost since where the anime left off, and I personally think that it’s currently too soon for Storm Bringer (aside from money purposes).
Note, most of this was written well before the anime 5th anniversary livestream but the announcements wound up not affecting it. I then of course made adjustments as needed account for the novel content we do have so far, both in Japanese and in English (officially).
Page to Episode Count
Not counting the afterward, ads, etc for the English/US copy, Japanese is including it
Also all eng page counts are using the Yen Press release and jp page counts are taken from the fandom wiki
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*148 is purely counting the Untold Origins portion of the novel. If we also count the A Day at the Agency short story that’s included before it (56 pages), then we get the full 203
Also the English page count for BEAST was noted before the English release date but after page counts have been posted by affiliated retailers, so subtract a couple pages from the written count of 176 for the time being to account for the afterward and possible character sheets being included
Now that we have our page to episode counts (as of April 5th, 2021), let’s find the actual content run time of what we do have animated so far.
Seasons 1-3 and the OVA all have the same episode length/duration. Each episode is 23 minutes, and we can subtract 3 minutes on average from that to account for the OP and ED being played. This leaves us with an average of 20 minutes of BSD story content per episode. So on average, each of the first 3 seasons contain 240 minutes, or 4 hours, worth of story content.
Dead Apple’s total run time is 91 minutes, with the OP and ED making up 9 of those minutes. However, we do have a bit of the story content being played while the ED is playing (as sometimes happens in the anime as well). To keep the math simple, I’ll be approximating story content time at 82 minutes.
Apply these numbers to the novels that have been animated so far and this is (approximately) what we get:
Tumblr media
Now let’s use these numbers to predict the screen time needed for the other novels
Note that we can’t really use Entrance Exam as a fair measure because of how much got cut out (just compare the run time of it to Dark Era and it speaks for itself). However, the numbers for Dark Era and Dead Apple are the best ones to use, as they both have minimal changes between anime and novel and both have official English translations currently available. Take out the approximate time taken up by OP/ED and and the numbers pretty much match up.
So with that being said, we can estimate Untold Origins (only) at approximately 3 eps/60 min and 55 Minutes at 1h 40-55min/100-115 min or 5-6 eps if it doesn’t get a movie. We can also estimate the A Day at the Detective Agency short story at the beginning of Untold Origins to take up about 1 ep, probably even a bit less.
1+ 3 + 5-6 = 9-10 episodes which isn’t enough for a full single cour season unless they all get put into one big OVA season, but also 10-11 eps (or less) seasons are a thing (ie. Fugou Keiji: Balance Unlimited, Blood Lad, Black Butler: Book of Circus, The Seven Deadly Sins: Signs of a Holy War, FLCL)
My personal predictions/hopes for the anime adaptation timeline going forward
This is considering the manga content, current “pausing/stopping points” what wouldn’t be too awkward, each of the novels relevancy/necessity to the main story manga, and assuming we continue with single cour (12-13 ep) seasons
Hopefully/ideally a 55 Minutes movie
S4: ch 54-70
Early S5 (preferably) or end of S4: Untold Origins or A Day at the Agency
S5: ch 71-88/around where we are now?
A Day at the Agency can, in my opinion at least, be chucked in at any point either as a single episode OVA or as the light novel content for s4 (maybe not even taking a full episode and then starting ch 54 in the last few minutes for example). Keep in mind that the current DOA arc is a long one and has plenty to it, so personally I think it may even be better to not include a novel adaptation in a future S4, as it would likely already be a right squeeze content wise. Remember, we also have a few XX.5 chapters that are continuations of the chapter directly before them.
I still need to read what’s currently available of the gaiden novel fan translations but it can probably be adapted at any point as well. I’m estimating approximately 5-6 eps as an OVA series. I don’t really think it would get a movie, partially because you can make it only so long, especially since it’s an anime movie and unlike Storm Bringer, it doesn’t have Chuuya to practically guarantee the profit.
BEAST also doesn’t directly impact the main story and can be adapted at virtually any point. However, seeing as we do have a live action confirmed for it and it’s page count lines up very closely with Dark Era, it can be either 4 eps or (more likely in my opinion) a movie, as it can be considered almost stand alone content.
Personally, I believe it is currently way too soon to animate Storm Bringer as it came out only a little over a month ago (as of writing this) and has minimal plot necessity as of ch 91, but I do believe it should be either split into 2 movies (a part 1 and part 2) or it would need 8 episodes, likely as an OVA season. If it were to get animated sooner than 55 Minutes or Untold Origins, which I believe to be very unlikely, I feel that it would almost certainly be driven by the financial gains of Chuuya being included, and his popularity alone. Reminder, SB is about Chuuya and not SKK. Dazai’s appearance in SB is proportionally a very small percentage and he’s not even mentioned in the official plot summary.
However, you can argue that SB is starting to have some relevance now, with the recent mention of the Order of the Clock Tower in ch 90 and the increased relevance of sealed ability weapons in ch 91. However, I really do believe that you can’t adapt Storm Bringer before 55 Minutes because of Standard Island and its treaty, it also talks about sealed ability weapons, knowing who Wells is, and 55 Minutes canonically takes place during the “downtime” portion of S3. In fact, here’s Asagiri’s words directly from the Afterward (translation by Yen Press):
“this volume didn’t take place in the past, but rather sometime after the tenth volume of the manga. In other words, it’s a tale about the ‘usual’ detective agency in novel format.” (55 minutes, p 237)
Untold Origins also should be adapted sooner rather than later (at least compared to SB in my opinion) because it’s about Ranpo and Fukuzawa’s shared past, which becomes increasingly relevant ch 70 onwards, as well as the need for the ADA being founded (which ties in with Yosano’s backstory in ch 65-66).
In regards to whether I think each of these would be better suited to a movie adaptation or as multiple regular length anime episodes, it’s mainly due to page count and partly due to the budget difference between the two, as well as how difficult I think it would be to animate each of these based on what needs to be drawn. The anime industry isn’t the fastest to switch to newer technology, hence why we see issues with 3D blending sometimes. I really do think that at the very least, 55 Minutes deserves the movie budget because of how detailed and complex the architecture of Standard Island is described as, as well all the mechanical parts needed for the final battle of the novel. Hate the lizard mouths introduced in Dead Apple all you want, but you can’t deny that the 3D cgi was blended very smoothly. For any of the other novels to be movies, it’s more so because gaiden and BEAST can be considered their own stand alone stories that don’t rely too heavily on the main story in terms of when they take place and get adapted. I feel that SB is more likely to get its own season or an OVA season more so due to its length, but multiple part anime movies have also been done before (ie. the Fate/Stay Night: Heaven’s Feel movies), so it’s not entirely impossible. Especially considering that merely having any Chuuya screen time means that you can expect the profit and popularity to really go up, especially with SKK being on screen together (regardless of whether you love or hate how the fandom tends to push a shipping POV on them).
These are all of course just my hopes and predictions and estimates based on information currently available, so take them with some salt. I’d love to hear opinions on how, when, and why each of the currently non animated novels should be adapted going forward. Also please stop begging the relevant BSD official Twitter pages for SB to be animated next and go read the other light novels you Chuuya simp

On Dan’s tenth anniversary of sobriety, a full year and a half after his death, he found himself nervous. Not simply because he had reached the decade mark, but because this year meant something different. The previous years had been for his own sake, all leading up to him helping Abra and facing the True Knot.
This year, and the years to come, it was because he had so much to live for.
He didn’t want to miss a single thing.
He went to the AA meeting by himself. He had done it a thousand times before and had celebrated nine anniversaries at the meeting over just as many years.
When it came time for his speech, he took the chip he was handed and stared down at it in his palm. He hadn’t prepared a speech—he never did—but the words seemed to tumble out of him as though they had always been there.
“My mother would’ve wanted me to live my best life. Obviously I didn’t for a long time. I don’t know if she would’ve been disappointed or devastated or horrified.” He inhaled shakily. “But now I am. It took me a long time to get here, but I did, and I’m glad I did. Even if it meant going through all of that other shit.”
The Overlook. Jack Torrance. The hauntings. The beast within himself.
“If she were here, I would tell her, ‘I did it, Mom. I can finally say I’m happy.’”
He suddenly pictured her smile, a warm beacon dispelling all darkness.
“For my eighth anniversary, I dedicated it to my father. Today, I dedicate this one to my mother.” He looked up, blinking away tears as the members quietly clapped.
I have someone taking care of me now, he told her, hoping she could hear. I don’t have to do this alone anymore.
~~
You waited outside the place where the AA meetings took place, sitting quietly on a bench as night settled in overhead. The moon was out, painting everything in silver that the street lamps couldn’t reach. A gentle breeze ghosted over your face, pleasant and soothing.
You hadn’t counted the months it had been since you woke up in the hospital. What was important was that you had woken up at all.
Dan had cried when you woke up and they had taken the tube out of you. You had cried in return, though not as hard, letting him hold you tight enough to make your ribs ache in protest. The doctor and nurses had to pry him away in order to check you over and ensure everything was fine.
My last resurrection, you thought. That had been part of the deal with the Other. No more second, third, fourth chances.
You actually had to live this time around. Really live, not simply survive.
It scared you, but so had everything else. You clung to that thought.
Dan emerged from the building. Upon seeing you, a wide smile broke out on his face. You felt yourself smiling back in return, your chest constricting. Rising to meet him, you let him envelope you in his arms.
“Let me see,” you said, looking for the chip.
Dan fished it out of his pocket and presented it to you. The number 10 dwarfed the small disk.
“Ten down, sixty more to go.”
“Don’t remind me,” he said, not quite laughing but amused all the same.
Slipping the coin back into your pocket, you stared up into his beautiful blue eyes. Your own had gone back to their original color, no longer opalescent and unnerving. Along with it had disappeared most of your Shine, the Other having drawn it out of you as part of the bargain.
You no longer had the darkest Shine, hidden like an eclipsed sun. Instead, it was like the moon: weak but clear light, enough to leave an impression.
That suited you just fine.
“I’d suggest a celebratory dinner, but I can smell the pizza and cake on your breath,” you said, laughing. “So what should we do?”
Leaning down, Dan pressed a languid kiss to your lips. “I have an idea.”
“What’s that?”
Hesitating, he swallowed thickly, working up courage. You frowned, trying to understand the sudden anxiety on his face.
He took a deep breath. “Marry me.”
You gaped at him. An awkward smile pulled hard at your mouth, disbelief writ large on your features.
You have to live life this time, not merely survive it.
“Alright, Dan Torrance,” you murmured.
Joy swelled in his chest. He kissed you again, picking you up and sweeping you around in his arms.
Did you ask her yet, Uncle Dan?
She said yes!
I told you she would.
Dan put you down, laughing in tandem with you. Your own head swimming, you managed to say, “Do you have a ring for me?”
His smile faltered. “No. Not yet. But I do have this.” He stuck his hand in his pocket and closed it around what he wanted.
Presenting his hand to you, he unfurled his fingers.
The 10-year chip rested there in his palm.
“Dan,” you whispered. “That’s yours.”
“I wouldn’t have it if it wasn’t for you.”
“You staying sober is your own accomplishment.”
“But I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you.” He pressed the chip into your hand. “I have a whole lifetime of thanking you for that.”
Throat constricting, you clutched the chip, fighting back against the tears pressing behind your eyes. He didn’t have to use his Shine to know how much it meant to you.
Regaining your composure, you managed to say, “You can by taking me home.”
Then you sent him a flurry of images of what he could do to thank you.
Dan crushed his lips to yours again, hot and breathless, and hurried you down the street, unable to get home fast enough. For the first time in his living life, his footsteps felt light, his shoulders unbowed. He wasn’t afraid, and he wasn’t dogged by shadows.
He was with the light of his life.
He couldn’t ask for more.

Filled It With My Feelings Text Translation
Sorry it took so long, but I finished the text translation of Filled It With My Feelings, the Senyuu 10th anniversary book! I didn’t translate the Season 1 Episode 1 redraw though because I’m sure we can all recite what happens in there by heart at this point.
As it’s an illustration book, the translation is meant to be read along with the pictures - you can purchase the digital PDF of the book at hiaruron.booth.pm/items/2329424. You should be able to purchase it through PayPal or some international credit cards.
I’ve included the text under the cut, but you can also read it on the Google Docs here.
Please note I do not give permission to anyone to use this translation for scanlations. There’s a reason why I’m posting this as a text translation rather than as a scanlation - it reads perfectly fine along with the raw book.
However, feel free to use this for text-only translations to different languages, just send me a message about it.

[Text Paragraph]
The story of Senyu first arrived on Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010 at 12:39 PM. Naturally, at that point, the name “Senyu” didn’t yet exist - a email was sent to my inbox entitled “A discussion about a new project.”
It was a rather vague email with few details, but at the time, I  was working as a day labourer in a certain distribution centre in Tokyo’s Ota Ward. As I hauled around boxes, my days were filled with uneasy thoughts of my future- I gave up on becoming a mangaka, I started work at an anime company but I quit there too, what am I going to do from now on? So I pounced on that vague email- Maybe this will shine some clarity into my life!
Senyu. was the product borne out of that email, and to my great appreciation, it really did shine clarity into my life. My future, which had been dark and uneasy, was illuminated bright by the light of Senyu. I would like to say that was why I made the protagonist’s name “Alba” - which means dawn - but unfortunately, that isn’t the case. I only learned the meaning of Alba’s name later - it was a total coincidence.
Anyways, a lot has happened, but it’s now Senyu’s tenth anniversary.
Thank you very much. I never thought that I could continue for this long. This is all thanks to all of you, for supporting me all this way.
Senyu. is a part of my life at this point - I don’t plan to end it any time soon, so I will be counting on everyone for their continued support.
Haruhara Robinson.
Page 4
Alba
While this may be obvious, the character I’ve spent the most time with in this work no longer feels like a mere “character” to me.
He had a beta design with bangs. But since I thought he might seem more cheerful with his forehead showing, I settled on his current design. I intended to give him a haircut that was similar to characters like Kirimaru, but my lack of artistic skills at the time ended up giving him a hairstyle with a bizarre composition.
I struggle now with how to draw his hair well.
Hero Symbol
I’ve always liked the idea of accessories that had the symbol of a hero, so wanting to have the same concept in my own work, I did my best to think up a design. I was really happy when it came out as merch.
Page 5
Ros
His backstory is really something!
I feel like he carried the entirety of Senyu’s serious plotlines on his back. I thought of Senyu. as like a story that uses the protagonist Alba to give the completed story of Hero Sion a happy ending?
There were times when I was drawing things out that I thought, He feels kinda pitiful? But then in the story, Ros says, “Don’t judge people as pitiful by your own standards,” so then I thought, I-I’m sorry.
His equipment at the start was supposed to be like a machine that let him whip around his heavy sword like it was nothing, but everything ended before I explained any of that.
Page 6
Rchi
At the start, I just thought of her as a cute little girl. But gradually, she grew darker and darker, and by now, the dark aspects of her personality are a part of what makes her unique as a character.
Her hair accessory often disappears. Near the start, there was the explanation that it was confiscated when they were arrested, but beyond that it’s just because I forgot to draw it.
There was an explanation for why she was naked under her cloak during her first appearance, but I’ve forgotten it. I believe it was because since she was camping outside, she washed herself outside as well but her clothes were blown away by the wind - so she wrapped an old cloth around herself…?
Page 7
Foyfoy
The name “Foyfoy” was decided by an audience poll. At first, I was planning to make him Chinese-inspired, but before I realized it that concept had disappeared. His mark is leftover from that original idea.
Foyfoy’s hairstyle is one I drew often when I was a student. I often gave rivals or secondary main characters this hairstyle.
I’m glad I could draw a design like this in an official work.
Page 8
Alles
A character drawn specifically with boobs that a Haruhara who was too embarrassed to draw boobs drew because “I can’t run from boobs!” The reason why I stopped drawing her midway through isn’t because of my embarrassment, but because I wasn’t used to drawing them, so since I never practiced it, I forgot how to.
Princess-chan
TL: This is written with the kanji for “Princess” rather than the katakana for “Hime” as her name is usually written.
She was meant to be a cute, elegant girl, so it shocked me when she immediately ended up as a violent character from her first appearance.
Since I hadn’t decided on a name for her, in the anime her name was listed as ???. I caused trouble for the anime staff.
Page 9
Rudolf
I can’t help but feel that eldery soldiers are cool. When I was doodling for fun, I often drew eldery soldiers.
Himendam
I thought of a development where a cute girl pops out from a nice big suit of armour, so I created the Himendam.
At the time, I thought, “This is a pretty unusual development, it’s great!” but now that I think back on it, it’s actually pretty common.
Slime
The first monster to appear. The first monster you fight should be a slime! Slimes should be blue! I’ve been influenced by Dragon Quest in that way.
I had this child of mine show up as your standard old monster in order to increase the impact of the panda who would show up right after.
Page 10
Minister
While I honestly have no idea why the minister is always standing next to the king, usually that’s the case in RPGs, right?
So I had him stand next to the king in the same way. I feel as though his overall image is influenced by Magical Circle Guru Guru’s Kaya. While I hadn’t realized it while designing him, Kaya’s design affected me unconsciously.
The King
His whole thing was “a super serious old man that makes a stupid face during funny scenes,” but before I realized it, his stupid face became his default expression.
He just may be the nastiest character in the series, considering he wrapped up the entire world in his schemes for his own personal desires.
Mob Characters
The mob characters in my work tend to have this face. I like how they tend to make cutting comments while having non-descript faces.
Page 11
Suit
When Ros’ design went from complicated equipment to this thing, I was shocked at how much easier it was to draw.
I think this thing was what triggered me striving for easiness in my work. Can I blame everything on this thing instead of me?
Just kidding, it’s all my fault.
Fake Foyfoy
If you don’t make careful enough observations, you can’t make a perfect disguise, and you end up in an idiotic costumed-character-like disguise. I wanted to use this plot device a few times more after this, but I didn’t have any chance to use it at all.
Mii-chan
Haruhara happens to have had a stuffed animal for as long as he can remember, and he still has it since he’s never been able to throw it away. I feel as though that stuffed animal served as the model for Mii-chan. In terms of his colour and overall atmosphere.
But my stuffed animal isn’t a pervert like him!
Page 12
Samejima
A delinquent overflowing with manliness. What’s with his hairstyle, I wonder. It’s actually pretty easy to draw.
He just might never lose against anyone so long as he thinks, “There’s no way I can lose.”
Januar
I stuffed in everything my little sister likes into his appearance. “Straight-cut bangs, black-haired, one-eyed, droopy eyes.” But it isn’t as though I went and got her feedback directly so she might just tell me, “He’s not my type at all.”
I chose his personality based on my tastes- “A kind idiot.”
Page 13
Teufel
I thought of a “butler who doesn’t obey orders” around the same time as a “soldier who doesn’t listen to what you say.”
I wanted to have him appear at some point in the future, but then I saw a book called The After-Dinner Mysteries in a book store, which made me think- “M-m-m-m-maybe this book has a butler who doesn’t obey orders as well?!” So I panicked, ran back home, and drew out the head butler’s story.
That’s why the head butler’s story was shoved in out of nowhere.
I read The After-Dinner Mysteries after I wrote in all the butler plot devices I wanted to use, and it was interesting.
At the start, Ros had his three burrs hairstyle so his design was differentiated from Teufel’s, but from Season 2 forwards I struggled with differentiating them.
So Teuf-kun has been going through some small design changes, a bit at a time.
Page 14
Nisepanda
Before Dwango reached out to me, there was a manga I thought up with the plot “a zoo with an easily deceived curator.”
I planned to have a nisepanda appear in that work. The plot device was, “They thought it was a panda, but they were given a mysterious lifeform instead.”
Death Hot Dog-kun
A character that was born during the enthusiastic atmosphere during a meeting with my editor.
We happened to be eating hot dogs during the meeting.
I barely ever have these meetings for my other works, but for Senyu, I’ve been having meetings like this for years. So through sheer enthusiasm and cheer, things like mysterious characters and plot devices end up being created during the meetings.

Dezember
Mysterious characters in manga often show up with their face cast in shadows. Dezember was born because I thought, “Why not make those shadows real?” But he ended up as a cooler character than I expected, using his shadows to attack and such.
I wanted to base him off of a toy for future plot developments, but I’m really glad I decided to based him off of dice. He became a really good character.
August
I think he’s actually a really nice person.
My editor for Main Quest really liked August, so whenever they got the chance they tried to push for more August.
Avril
A character that’s rather rare for Senyuu - one that just genuinely does bad things for bad reasons. I planned to draw her as really evil so you could tell she was a bad person, but she ended up just casually munching on bread - it really surprised me.
Neun
Back when his only appearance was a silhouette, I just wanted to make people think of that character at first. But now that I really think about the design I thought up for him after - isn’t he pretty cute?
Juli
Just like Foyfoy, I often drew characters with this hairstyle back when I was a student. I usually gave it to trustworthy ally characters. I like his design and personality quite a bit - sorry I haven’t used you much…
Page 17
The Shadows
It’s super cool to be able to split your body for each die face. I also feel like it’s a great character setting that each split has his own personality. A thought just crossed my mind - couldn’t I draw a manga just based around the Dezembers’ home life?
...I guess it would end up like Osomatsu-san...?
Page 18
Zwei
I wanted to use the concept that she was old despite her looks because she was a demon, so I had her dentures fly out - but now that I think about it, there’s other old demon characters, including some characters older than Zwei. So that would make her dentures a result of her own problematic lifestyle, not because of her old age…
Wanna Stab~
A mob among mobs, who ranked high in a popularity poll. I shall now grant him a name - “Phoenix the Rich”.
Mortmome
The stuff on his shoulder does some mysterious things, preventing his body from turning as well when the drill turns.
Page 19
The Great Mage
The cape he wears is very warm. His research assistants gifted him the cape as a present for his birthday sometime in his later years of life, as they were worried about his health. That’s why Alba always wears the cape.
Elf
He’s meant to be someone who knows the secrets of the world - but I can’t count the number of times I considered whether it would be better to just make him a regular old funny character. Good on you for surviving through all that, Elf!
Alf
While I did want there to be a “Elf’s best friend” character, I hadn’t thought about his name at all. So when it came time for him to appear, I really struggled with it. I wanted to make his name like Alba and Ros (Albatross) or Salt and Lake (Salt Lake)…
I may have struggled the most with Alf’s name among all my characters, considering I usually just pick names on instinct.
Page 20
Salt and Lake and Lym
The Hero Academy trio. At first, I planned for Salt to become the Demon Lord, but when I sat down to draw everything out, Lake ended up in that role - it really shocked me.
I had always planned for the story to shift from the adventure setting of Seasons 1 and 2 to the school setting of Season 3. Though the end result is completely different from what I imagined.
Season 3 was really fun to draw since it defied my expectations at every turn.
Page 21
Lyman
I wanted to draw a pathetic older man. I also want his scar to be because of some pathetic reason like “He tripped at a bar.”
Elmer
I reused the soldier design I thought up prior to thinking up Alba and Ros. He’s a little older than Rchi.
Justice
Justice is her ally. In other words, I wanted to make a character where no matter what she does, “I’m doing it, so it’s just!”
But it was too difficult to figure out how to deal with a character like that, so I ended up just making a regular old hotheaded reckless character.
In the end though, she ended up as a character I quite like.
Page 22
Grandpa
A character who loves money. Since I love characters who love money, he’s a character that’s fun to use. It doesn’t actually have to be money, I like characters true to their own desires in general.
Hasegawara-kun
He was originally meant to be a silent character, but I got the urge to make him talk right before I was going to send in the manuscript. Since I wouldn’t make it if I typesetted his speech, I wrote his lines myself. By writing his lines in a way that can only be expressed through handwriting, I made it seem like I planned that from the start.
I made his speech typesetted again after I did that plot where he speaks super eloquently.
Rib Man
He requires no explanation!
It was funny when he moved in the anime.
Page 23
Sochi and Co.
There’s a game called Medabots - in that game, a character called Samantha leads a three-person team called the Screws. I’ve always liked that team since I was a kid. And then, I learned that my editor for Senyu was close with people who were involved with creating the original Medabots. So I had my editor tell them, “I want to put in characters I respect! Please leave it be!”
Please google the Screws that I respect, I respect them.
Lucop
I had vaguely thought up what was going to happen until the end of season 4 of Senyu. But since I’ve done everything I originally thought up, F5 - which I’m drawing now - is all based on plot developments I thought up in +.
-I’ve been saying that for a while now. Lucop as well was just a throwaway joke at first. But as I started moving him around, amazing developments like “Huh? No way… you had a past like this…?” burst out of him, and so he became the current Lucop.
Page 24
Midnight
A travelling doctor. As he treats his patients, he’s also searching for a cure to Mom’s mysterious disease. He’s a completely normal person with no special powers. He wanted Alba to become strong through his own power, not through familial connections.
Cecily
A mother who adores her children. I think it’s pretty amazing that she managed to raise Lake up herself and send him off to school despite being blown off to a mysterious place out of nowhere.
Page 25
Rchimedes the Second and his wife
Rchimedes the Second and his wife. (T/N: Yes, it’s written twice.)
Daromeon-san, who’s currently illustrating Kengan Ashura, was the one to draw the ridiculously beautiful backgrounds in the flashback arc in Season 2 when the Second was imprisoned. When I complained that I couldn’t draw it, he drew me amazingly beautiful.backgrounds.
The Second’s design is based off of a mysterious preconception I have that “Demon Lords should wear raggedy capes.” Mama’s design is based on those soothing, kind moms you often see in anime.
The Mana Maker that he holds in this picture isn’t any particular Mana Maker. I just wanted to let a Mana Maker show up in a group picture.
Page 26
Rchimedes
While he’s tremendously evil, he ended up being quite loved. The Senyu characters I designed near the start wear clothes that I would never design now - I really think it’s amazing. Why did I dress him up in a jumpsuit when I decided to draw a Demon Lord?
On a side note, I imagined that the white part of his clothes peels off smoothly like tape if you pull at it from his neck.
Crea
Since he took back his body from Rchimedes, his height shouldn’t have changed, but for some reason he mysteriously shrunk.
Page 27
<no text>
Page 28
Originia
In a way, the story of these three marks the start of Senyu. Originia comes from me messing around with the the word “Original”.
Rchimedes' scariest era just might be when he was living alone with Sion in Originia. Even though at first glance, it seems like he was living a peaceful, cheerful life with Sion, though occasionally getting beat up by him. But in reality, just what was he thinking deep inside, as he lived out his life, watching Crea and Sion?
Since I’m the author, I can generally imagine what my characters think just by thinking about it. But when it comes to Rchimedes during this time, all that comes to mind is “Scary scary scary”, and I can’t really think any further in detail.
I’m often asked “What’s Rchimedes’ original eye colour?”, but I think it was probably blue. I feel like I drew his eyes as blue somewhere, but I can’t remember…
Crea’s clothes slung around his shoulders that don’t fall off for whatever reason are actually sewn on - that’s why they don’t fall off. Crea sewed it on himself. While his threadwork is rough, it’s very sturdy. I think it’s wild and cool.
I showed a bit of what Sion did in the main story, but he generally did things like hauling supplies for hunting, looking far in the distance since his eyes are good, and going shopping in far-off cities for the village. Things like that.
Page 29
The two from Season 4 Episode 0
The two from Elf and Alf’s universe. Since Rchimedes’ magic research hasn’t progressed that much, they mostly fight with brute force. Since Crea never had his body stolen, he’s doing well. (He’s not doing well at all.)
Page 30
Creasion
When I was a kid, I read in a manga, “‘Hero’ isn’t something you call yourself - it’s a title you’re granted by others.” I remember thinking, “I see, that certainly makes sense,” and agreeing with it. I also thought, “While you generally think of heroes as being brave and splendid, the person who’s actually adventuring might not be able to stand expectations like that sometimes.”
Creasion may be a character borne out of those feelings of mine.
Ros, please have tons of sweets and smile tons as well.
Page 31
<no text>
Page 32
Sleepiez
When I thought of the name “Sleepiez” in Senyu+, I didn’t think much of it except “There’s an anti-Alba organization”. I also planned for Boss to be a new character. But after I took the time to think about it properly, the Sleepiez in their current form were born.
Thanks to the current Sleepiez being created, F5 was able to start even though I thought before “I’ve already done everything I want to do with Senyu, I can’t make another proper season.”
If there was no Sleepiez, I feel like + would’ve lazily continued, then at some good cut-off point, I feel like I would’ve been told, “Do you think it’s about time to end it?”
A tenth anniversary for example… it would’ve been a good cut-off point… how scary!
Boss
I can’t write about most of the Sleepiez members just yet, so I’ll be talking about Boss as their representative.
Boss is an alternate universe’s Alba, so despite being Boss, he’s still Alba, and so I want to make him feel like Alba still. But since he’s Boss he can’t retort or make jokes, since it would ruin his dignity. So at the very least, I gave him Alba’s fashion sense to keep his Alba feel. Since his heart stained black and he became evil, his fashion sense naturally became eviller as well, but he’s still Alba, the base is still Alba. He’s wearing clothes that kinda feel like a middle schooler who just discovered fashion for the first time, like he hasn’t managed to go full evil in terms of clothes just yet.
Now I can keep Boss as Boss while still giving him an Alba feel! ...is what I thought, but… does he actually still have that feel…?
Page 33
Alba with Mana
It made me happy that my wish for my protagonist to become the strongest at the end was granted. I thought up a lot of reasons for why only one of his eyes is red, like how it’s because his awakening is still incomplete, etc., but the number one reason is “it’s cool.”
A single red eye is cool, right?! It’s cool right?!
Now that he can use his mana to some extent, he controls his overwhelming mana to hold it back, so his eyes are both back to black now.

SQ Senyuu.
I had this conversation once-
Y-san from Dwango told me, “I want to take Senyu to a magazine to have it serialized!”
I thought it would be awesome if it actually happened, so I approved it. Then I was like, “If you do take it to a magazine, where would you take it?”
Then Y-san responded, “Well, if you say ‘magazine’, you think Jump.”
And I was like, “Nah nah, Jump would be impossible, ahahaha.”
I never thought that Y-san would actually bring me an offer for serialization in Jump - Y-san was way too capable. Since my personal experience with Jump all started from there, I’m really grateful!
Pages 36-43
<Season 1 Episode 1 redraw>
Page 44
Afterword
Since I’ve remade Senyu Episode 1 many times before, I thought that I would never remake it again. But then I thought- why don’t I remake Episode 1 at the exact time it was originally released ten years ago, as celebration! So I ended up remaking it again.
But I think it may be my first time remaking it without changing any of the jokes or content.

SEPTEMBER 2020 GOLD STAR MEDIA SCHEDULES & REVIEW
Members may earn 3 points each (up to 6 points) for writing, by the end of October 7 KST:
A solo para of 400+ words based on their monthly schedule (does not count toward your monthly total).
A thread of six posts (three per participant, including the starter) based on their monthly schedule.
Threads do not have to take place directly during an important date listed on the schedule, but must be related to what the muse is mentioned to be doing in the paragraph explaining their schedule/the company’s schedule for the month and/or their thoughts on the mentioned activities or lack thereof.
These schedules may be updated throughout the month if new information needs to be added.
Reminder: August schedule posts are due by the end of September 7 KST. Please do not post schedule posts in the fmdschedule tag.
OVERALL COMPANY
As has become standard at this point, all idols under the company will be permitted a short, three-day break over Chuseok unless they have individual schedules (admin note: points claims) conflicting with the vacation. It is a true break, meaning idols may travel as they wish and are capable of doing within such a short time period and, if they don’t have individual schedules, their manager will be off the clock as well.
Important dates:
September 30(-October 2): Chuseok vacation (no activities save for any individual schedules).
GOLD STAR SOLOIST 1
Rehearsals for her concerts get more intense this month, as she’ll be beginning the tour next month. She’ll also be holding two mini fanmeetings on the day of her twelfth debut anniversary where she’ll let in 120 fans drawn from a lottery of her fancafe per time. Since she’s holding concerts next month, the fanmeeting will be more focused on meeting with fans in a more intimate setting and interacting with the celebrity MC than giving more than a handful of performances of old classics. She won’t be performing any of her songs from her latest album at the fanmeeting to save them for her concert. Other than that, she’s given the kind of freedom in her schedules only able to be afforded to someone of her seniority and status in the industry.
Important dates:
September 18: Twelfth anniversary fanmeetings.
GOLD STAR SOLOIST 2
With the turning of the seasons over to fall, the time comes for her to record her next comeback. Her comeback, as has previously been conveyed to her by the company, will be a holiday single release that she’ll be putting out in both Korean and English. Christmas releases in the industry are often hit or miss in popularity and Gold Star hasn’t done them often, but it’s been decided that she fits the image for one well, so she’ll need to go into the recording studio this month to record “Sweater” and its English version.
Important dates:
N/A
GOLD STAR SOLOIST 3
He starts off the month by filming the music video for the title track of his English album, as well as live performance videos for his title track with his featuring artist and for his release from earlier this year, “Love Die Young”. Three weeks later, the album is released worldwide and he begins promotions. Though it’s an English album, he’ll be promoting solo on music shows for a month to meet with his Korean fans. To help promote it internationally, though, he’ll be performing a set at a YouTube Music Night event in Seoul and the videos will be uploaded on YouTube shortly after.
Important dates:
September 5:  “Congratulations” M/V filming.
September 6: “Congratulations” Live Performance video and “Love Die Young” Live Performance video filming.
September 24: Release of ”Congratulations” and Before We Begin album, music show promotions continue through October 24.
September 26: Performance at YouTube Music Night Seoul.
SILHOUETTE
Preparations for their repackage are more laid back than usual due to the nature of the comeback not being performance heavy and the repackage only including one additional song. This month, they do have fittings for their stage outfits, but the fittings will be shorter than usual since they don’t have to worry too much about the range of movement the outfits offer. Later in the month, the members will go in for a simple photo shoot with Grazia Korea that will be released in their November issue. The photos will be accompanied by an interview, where the members will be asked about passing their tenth anniversary, the success of their last comeback, and their future plans.
Important dates:
September 13: Comeback stage outfit fittings.
September 21: Photo shoot for Grazia Korea’s November issue.
ARIA
Queendom nears its final month of filming next month, so Gold Star have continued to clear out Aria’s schedules to focus on the show. The eventual airing of their “Sixth Sense” cover stage this month brings a surprising amount of criticism among fan communities, largely drummed up by the stark contrast to the image the public is used to from them and for covering a song by their company seniors that’s still freshly released. Management instructs the members not to let that discourage them, though, as they see the Fandora’s Box performance as the perfect chance to show exactly what fans want from them. The group’s main vocal and lead dancer/vocal will be representing the group in the vocal unit and performance unit stages respectively. Full details of Queendom filming for this month can be found here.
Important dates:
September 3: Episode two of Queendom airs.
September 7: Queendom episode seven filming.
September 10: Episode three of Queendom airs.
September 17: Episode four of Queendom airs.
September 24: Episode five of Queendom airs.
September 29: Quendoom episode eight & nine filming (unit stage, Fandora’s Box stage).
ORIGIN
The end of “Black Swan” promotions on September 14 only allows a few days before their album release and a brand new round of promotions for “On”. In those few days, the group will once again fly out to the US, this time to New York City, to film a performance in the middle of the night at Grand Central Terminal that will be aired a few days later. They’ll also fit in a few radio interviews while they’re there before they make a quick return to Seoul in order to begin music show promotions once again.
Important dates:
September 14: End of music show promotions.
September 14: Release of “Outro: Ego”.
September 15: Filming of performance on The Tonight Show in Grand Central Terminal in New York, NY, USA (to be aired September 19).
September 18: Release of “On”, music show promotions continue through October 18.
IMPULSE
While the company focuses on the debut preparations for PULS2, the other members of Impulse are offered an extended vacation for Chuseok that they are free to take unless they have individual schedules that will interfere with it. They’re encouraged to take advantage of the break while they can, as they’ll be hosting a fanmeeting before the year comes to a close.
Important dates:
September 20(-October 3): Extended Chuseok vacation (excluding PULS2 unit members).
       ↳ PULS2
While their group mates are offered vacation, the members of Impulse’s new sub-unit don’t get the same opportunity, as they must continue to work hard preparing for their unit debut. Now that their album is recorded, this month, they’ll learn and practice the choreography for the title track “Focus”, as well as b-sides “Drunk On You”, “Senses”, and “Long Black” in preparation for music show promotions and the showcase tour they’ll be embarking on.
Important dates:
N/A
FUSE
"Psycho” is a success, whether that’s because of the time fans of the group were kept waiting or because the song is more fitted to the public’s tastes. Promotions are kept to a minimum for reasons management doesn’t go into depth on, with only one fan sign and no radio show appearances or television appearances beyond music shows, but it doesn’t stop the song from earning praise and several music show wins. Fuse has re-proven their place as a top girl group this time, if anyone has begun to doubt them. Their Chuseok break begins slightly later than everyone else’s on the evening of September 30, but Gold Star will offer them an extension of their break next month to make up for it.
Important dates:
September 12: Fan sign in Gangnam, Seoul.
September 30: End of music show promotions.
ELEMENT
With no comeback yet confirmed internally, the members will take a brief trip to Los Angeles from September 25 to September 28, during which time, they will film a Halloween-themed video with Access Hollywood that will be uploaded next month and they will also film some content for their YouTube channel. During the short time they’re there, they’ll film a video of them taking a guided tour of the best tourist spots in LA and will also be able to explore Los Angeles themselves with self-cams on September 25. On the 26th, they’ll film the Access Hollywood Mukbang video and get time to themselves off-camera. On September 27, they’ll film a vlog of the whole group visiting Universal Studios Hollywood.
Important dates:
September 25: Los Angeles guided tour and free exploration Youtube video filmings.
September 26: Access Hollywood Spooky Halloween Candy Mukbang video filming.
September 27: Universal Studios Hollywood vlog Youtube video filming.
FEMME FATALE
Before they hold their fanmeeting next month, the members have to go into fittings for their stage outfits. The stylists will take into consideration some of the members’ preferences due to the more intimate setting of a fanmeeting, but the stylists will still have the final say in what the members wear. The members are also expected to continue rehearsing their solo stages as they began to do last month.
Important dates:
September 14: Fan meeting stage outfit fittings.

FORUM ROMANUM I
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE ARCH OF TITUS
In AD 80, the tenth anniversary of conclusion of the Jewish War,  the Senate commissioned a triumphal arch dedicated to the Emperor Titus. Built near the Circus Maximus, the arch carried a dedicatory inscription that cited Titus’ honors and acknowledged his father and co-belligerent, the deified Vespasian. The inscription concludes with a summary description of the nature of Titus’ accomplishment honored by the monument:
Following the advice and example his father, he prevailed over the Judeans and destroyed the city of Jerusalem, which, since time immemorial, had been besieged by generals, kings, and peoples in vain or left unmolested by them.
The inscription therefore cites the emperor’s virtues and provides an example of its manifestation: his good judgment and filial piety are xemplified by his seeking the advice of his senior officer and father, Vespasian, and his skill and determination as a general are proven by the fact that he prevailed where others had failed.
Tumblr media
One year later, another arch, also dedicated to Titus, was commissioned by his younger brother, Domitian. Built on a small hill on the Via Sacra, the arch served as a ceremonial gateway to the Forum Romanum. The location of this monument alone indicates that it was designed to serve a very different function than its precursor by the rowdy Circus Maximus. A bronze quadriga adorned the attic, to which a plaque was affixed bearing a dedication prominently carved in straight-line capitals:
Senatus populusque Romanus Divo Tito Divi Vespasiani filio Vespasiano Augusto.
Titus, like Vespasian, is now divine. The arch commemorates his victory over death, in AD 81, through deification. This is expressed in the relief at the center of the coffered soffit of the arch’s passageway, showing Titus carried on the back of an eagle to elysium. Whereas the first arch was triumphal, the second Arch of Titus is a funerary monument. The young emperor’s ashes were deposited in the attic.
Tumblr media
The two Arches of Titus shares more than a dedication. Both monuments cite the pacification of Judea as evidence of Titus’s greatness. Whereas the earlier arch asserts that claim textually in the second part of the inscription, it is expressed on the later arch pictorially. The famous relief sculptures on the walls of the passageway depict Titus in his chariot drawn by 4 white horses and his troops carrying the unmistakable spoils of the temple in Jerusalem.
Tumblr media
Since the publication of Franz Wickhoff’s Der Wiener Genesis in 1895, the spatial construction and scenographic realism of the panels have been adduced as evidence of the emergence of a distinctly Roman art. If the reliefs are best understood as a continuation of the inscription, as has been persuasively argued*, then inscriptions and epigraphy are essential components of the romanitas of the arch and of Roman imperial art in general.
Tumblr media
In the Middle Ages, the later arch was incorporated into the walls of the Frangipani family’s fortified residence. What remained of the arch in 18th century can be seen in paintings of the forum. In the 1820s, the arch was completely disassembled, reconstructed, and restored. Much of the marble veneer of the exterior dates from this period; the inscription and stone sculpture are original.
Tumblr media
The first arch had been known only through a 9th-century compilation of Roman inscriptions that noted its location near the Circus Maximus. Its precise location was discovered in 2014, when archaeologists excavating at the east end of the Circus Maximus unexpectedly unearthed the column bases and plinths of a massive, three-bay arch. Fragments of sculpture and epigraphy confirmed that this was indeed the triumphal Arch of Titus.
Tumblr media
A reconstruction was immediately proposed. However, the area around the Circus Maximus is susceptible to Tiber flooding and the arch’s foundations are below the watertable. To reconstruct the arch at its original location would require the implementation of a drainage system under the monument prior to rebuilding. Until a corporate sponsor is identified, the foundations of the arch have been reburied. A group of smaller fragments can be seen strewn on ground by the site.
