Hi. It has been a while. I will be addressing my thoughts throughout the last two months. Feel free to skip if you don’t care.

First of all, apologies for vanishing in a sudden and leaving all the materials untranslated or any other work behind, and also thank you guys so much for the supportive messages and comments.

I have actually been struggling about whether to drop the series since mid 2021. I have never publicly talked about it because I did not want to bring any negative energy to the community. I decided to continue because first, I am running this fanpage and second, I was still hopeful towards the author and the officials. Yet since various announcement and release in late 2021 (e.g. stage plays, live action movie, main manga etc.), I no longer have faith and respect to them. With all the sentiments have been accumulating in the past few months, and I think it’s time to take a break.

This is the only reason why I decided to go on a hiatus. It is nothing about the characters or whatsoever. I simply 1. get disappointed by the story and 2. disagree with the business approach of the BSD officials.

Being able to understand Japanese allows me to be exposed to more source of information and hence made me have a different set of opinions comparing to the mainstream English fandom. I deactivated this Instagram account in the first few weeks of January because I received lots of hate messages. Surely no one would feel happy for receiving hateful comments, but I accept that this is something I signed up for when I decided to make this account public. Nevertheless, I never regret for what I have ever posted or said, and I am very thankful that there are many people agree with me and support my views.

Now, I will keep both my Instagram and Tumblr account for anyone who wants to reread my post, or for my potential comeback to the fandom.

So far, I don’t see myself coming back to BSD / BSD fandom anytime sooner. Still I don’t want to completely exclude the possibilities of it. As long as BSD returns to the style that I love, where it talks about the reasons of living, the significance of salvation or the philosophical meaning behind war and conflicts etc., I think there is still a chance that I am returning. But for the time being, I am afraid that I am going to leave.

Last but not least, I would like to express my deepest and sincerest thank you to Nika, Granny and Emma for all the assistance offered in my discord server, as well as my mutuals Sara, Kira, Q-san, Alex, Vic, Yosi etc. for defending me, together with all the love and support.

Forgive any insensibility, but I really don’t understand why people would be upset at BSD or at the vampire arc. It seems so, so clear that it’s only a plot point, none of those important characters are going to die - the fact that it’s so many main-cast characters all infected should precisely be an indication that it’ll have to be undone. It runs long, for sure, it’s a huge-ass buildup to a rollercoaster climax and it can be a lot to take in, but I’m really not seeing anything wrong, traitorous to the audience or a single sign of bad writing, from my point of view.

BSD doesn’t make a habit of killing characters, not main-cast ones. Side characters, guards, smaller enemies, sure, but not main cast. That’s why I’m calm as ever and simply enjoying the ride!

hey idgaf about how you feel about the bsd characters, but don’t ever apply those feelings towards the irl authors. people have edited nakahara-sensei’s wikipedia page to have dazai-sensei as his husband. someone else is spreading misinfo that mori-sensei tried to destroy yosano-sensei’s work, despite how they were very close. those people are NOT the characters, so stop viewing them like they are.

this isn’t funny or factual. you are blatantly disrespecting the dead all because of your feelings toward some fictional characters. some lines and pixels that are NOT 1:1 representations of the authors.

Some quick spoiler-y thoughts on 55 minutes under the cut:

okay the pain. like can we have one story without immense pain?? I guess we cannot but that's what I signed up for so it's all good

actually Akuatagawa dying isn't good like he remembers his own death and that's so messed up he literally burned alive like that's traumatising

but it gave me so much to think about so I appreciate it

55 minutes really proves that I spoke the truth in my Atsushi analysis like it proves at least half of the points I made there

and Dazai in a trashcan is the new Fyodor in jail

they were made for each other, true soulmate behavior

being obsessed with staying in very specific places

I remember seeing people wonder whether Yosano could heal Dazai in that small window between being nearly dead and really dead and now I have the canon answer so that's very cool (thanks Asagiri, one less thing to keep me up at night)

but really I thought about the "but never zero" meme before the sentence even ended and afterwards I started laughing and had to take a break and write down a note to make a meme out of it

the plot was so interesting but I started getting a bit lost so I'll need to read a summary to put all the pieces togather (which is cool, I like reading summaries)

but it was so much lore

I think it may actually be my favourite light novel

it delivered everything I wanted

but then again the rest is equally good so I can't choose my favourite one for sure

Sorry for the delay in answering this ask but I just had the chance do a full read through of your post! And again, definitely some good and interesting points made. As 95.5 was already released since then, yeah we know that at least the figure in front of Dazai at the end of 95 was Nikolai with Sigma in tow. Going off of the dialogue in 95.5 it does however look like Nikolai was the one responsible for the hallway

Okay a large part of this is thanks to discussion on @chazukekani’s server rn cause we’re just bouncing ideas off each other lol but my thoughts so far:

Daisuke Hirakawa as Gogol (for reference I’m thinking KnY Enmu but ever so slightly lower pitched)

Yuma Uchida as Tecchou or Jouno but I can also see Daisuke Namikawa as Tecchou (Jellal voice for reference)

or maybe Yoshitsuga Matsuoka (for reference something like Sora from NGNL in this case) or Ishikawa Kaito as Jouno? Kouki and Nobuhiko are also really good choices to consider tho 👀

Saito Souma as Sigma

Idk about Mushi or Fukuchi but for Fukuchi sound/pitch wise I imagine something sorta between Fukuzawa and Natsume’s voices? Can’t really think of a character as a reference point for how I imagine Mushitaro sounding rn

Also dw I’m aware that a couple names I’ve mentioned have already been featured in bsd but TJ Eckleburg is a pretty minor role and Rokuzo is just not coming back. Also Uemura has voiced young Oda already, so this isn’t exactly the newest thing in the industry if the voice fits for a seiyuu to voice multiple characters in one production/project
