"I was thinking of the East Village, Danceteria, The Roxy, my friends that died of AIDS, the good old days, and a million other nostalgic thoughts." Madonna 1992

12.08.2023 prompt - Love Among the Shelves
Barbara was at the children's section's front desk when he approached.
It was her day shift, but every instinct she developed during her over-a-decade time as a vigilant, screamed inside of her that this man was DANGEROUS.
"Excuse me, sir!" She called him, as she took a quick look at the population.
(fifteen children, ten mothers, and a teen- probably a babysitter, or an older sister).
"How can I help you?" She asked as he stood in front of her, almost 2 ft over her. She quietly unlocked her wheels, and reach for the emergency taser.
"I want to get a library card." He says.
"This is the children section, mr...?"
"Dan. Just Dan. And that not for me, that's for the hellion". He gesture to his left, only seem to notice no one's there.
"ELLIE!"
"Sheesh, Old Mold." A kid show up. "No leed to yell. MY ears are still new and working."
"You can't just disappear without telling anyone!"
"What, am I in prison now? Oh, wait, I'm not the one who's been locked up!"
"You little hazard. What did we say about telling OUTSIDERS private information?"
"Do it for fun and profit?-"
And the man just grab by the back of her hoodie, and pick her up in one hand.
"That's the Hellion. She needs a library card."
The kid move a little, trying to escape, before giving up and just looking at Barbara.
"Hi! I'm Ellie - WOW ARE YOU JAZZ'S CLONE?".
-OR-
After learning that Danielle just travel around the world on her own, Dan's core re-develope his old obsession.
(protect her)
They travel across the world as Dan& Ellie - father and daughter.
Ellie wants to go to Gotham, (They have WEIRD THINGS) and they try getting a life there.
On an attempt to get something like normal (halfa?) life, Dan take Ellie to get her first library card.
Enter Barbara Gordon, a librarian extraordinary by day, and a vigilant named "Oracle" by night.
Somehow, she keep meeting that single dad (ex-prisoner) and his daughter.
(she CAN'T be introduced to Damian. The world may not survive it).
Or: I started thinking Dan/Barbara and now I can't unsee it.

Humans L O V E mimicking things, meowing back at cats, taping our feet with the hops of a bird, noticing how someone says hello or goodbye and repeating their same greeting to them, copying posture and voice volume.
Would Aliens be put off by this? Enticed? See it as endearing or creepy?
Turians noticing how humans stand on their toes more while talking to them, how they puff their chest more and follow the movement of their talons. Curiously asking about their war paint and commenting on how cool it looks, wondering if it's okay for them to pain something similar on their face.
Quarian's bouncy nature gets copied by humans around them without realising it, softly bouncing on their feet or tapping their fingers against a surface with the same rhythm.
Humans who just see something and ask if someone's gonna copy it, and not even wait for an answer.
Asari phrases sticking to human pop culture and becoming common slang or sayings the more people repeat it between themselves, yeah everyone knows what embrace eternity means, memes about it were just trending.
Same with Turian's "bare-faced" saying, the humans embrace it and use it in their own language despite having no business to do so.
The fact we consider mimicry as flattery. We coo at cats sitting on our laptops because they saw us spending time there, we laugh at dogs wearing hats or human like clothes, we learned how to appropriately pet birds so that we don't send them the wrong message, we took notice of the other species around us and how to best befriend them.
So of course these same humans would see the aliens as friends to share their toys with, give them all of our stories and art, let them borrow our language and clothes, enthusiastically explain our constellations and dreams while encouraging them to share their own. We're a community and family based society by nature that adopts everyone into it. It is possible for a human to feel closer to an alien and bond deeper with them than they might ever do to another human.
