Johnny Cage
Tumblr media
Adult Reader -
Reader : Cage, you can't be serious.
Johnny : Oh, come on, at least imagine kissing while you're invisible, please.
-
Reader : For the last time, I'm too busy fighting crime to be in your movies.
Johnny : Come on, babe, a cinematic universe with Spider-People? It'll be a hit!
-
Johnny : No, wait, just hear me out, Man-Spider, a Spider gets bitten by a radioactive man!
Reader : I don't know why I talk to you...
-
Johnny : You seriously couldn't have chosen a better suit.
Reader : It's not meant to be sexy, but if it can distract you in this fight I'm all for it.
-
Teen Reader -
Reader : Wait, you're serious? I can be in one of your movies?!
Johnny : Sure, kid, anything for an adoring fan.
-
Reader : It's... It's such a dream to meet you, you're so awesome in Ninja Mime, I-
Johnny : Let me guess, you want an autograph?
-
Johnny : So, a radioactive Spider is still out there, making more of you?
Reader : I may have accidentally killed it before I knew...
-
Johnny : Hah, I'm a martial arts superstar, some spider-kid isn't getting the best of me.
Reader : I've defeated men twice the size of you!
-
Kung Lao
Tumblr media
Adult Reader -
Reader : Yes, webs come out of my wrists, why?
Kung Lao : Do they come out of... Anywhere else?
-
Reader : I do everything I can to protect the people I love.
Kung Lao : Would I happen to be one of them?
-
Kung Lao : You're always missing our dates...
Reader : I'm sorry, but crime is everywhere and I need to stop it.
-
Kung Lao : You're buying me dinner at Madame Bo's for the incident at Johnny's.
Reader : I didn't mean to activate my electricity in the pool!
-
Teen Reader -
Reader : Why would I crawl on Madame Bo's ceiling?
Kung Lao : There's webs up there, they fall down on the food sometimes.
-
Reader : I can't take a break, someone could get hurt-
Kung Lao : You're a kid, this isn't your responsibility.
-
Kung Lao : Ah! You can't sneak up on me like that!
Reader : It's not my fault, I didn't realise I was invisible!
-
Kung Lao : Wait a minute, you're part Spider, but afraid of them?
Reader : Don't say it so loud, someone could hear!
-
Kitana
Tumblr media
Adult Reader -
Reader : I don't know, can you handle my electricity?
Kitana : Don't underestimate me, Earthrealmer.
-
Reader : Kitana, I don't understand what you mean?
Kitana : I mean, Earthrealmer, I would love to see what those webs of yours can be used for.
-
Kitana : That magic you possess, it's incredible!
Reader : I got bit by a radioactive Spider, it's not magic.
-
Kitana : Stop turning invisible around the palace, it's making Mileena suspicious.
Reader : I can't help it, it happens when I relax!
-
Teen Reader -
Reader : Once a great man told me that with great power comes great responsibility
Kitana : He must've meant a lot to you
-
Reader : I'll zap you if you get too close!
Kitana : Ha, are all Earthrealmers so immature?
-
Kitana : I doubt you'll best me in Kombat.
Reader : Just know that you'll never live it down when I do.
-
Kitana : I can't believe my mother thinks so lowly of you, you're only a child.
Reader : You'd be surprised.
-
Mileena
Tumblr media
Adult Reader -
Reader : I don't think your sister likes me much...
Mileena : It's because you keep crawling on the ceilings.
-
Reader : I'm sorry for electrocuting you.
Mileena : I was under the effects of my affliction, you were only defending yourself.
-
Mileena : You're awfully close to that Earthrealm girl.
Reader : Gwen's just a friend, Mileena.
-
Mileena : That's a cute trick you have there.
Reader : What about spider webs are cute??
-
Teen Reader -
Reader : Can you train me?
Mileena : Only if you teach me your own moves.
-
Reader : I'm more than capable of fighting!
Mileena : I understand the feeling of being underestimated, Earthrealmer.
-
Mileena : Your abilities are useful in Kombat.
Reader : I want to protect anybody who can't match them.
-
Mileena : Never go invisible during an Outworld dinner again.
Reader : I'm sorry, I got nervous!
-
Sindel
Tumblr media
Adult Reader -
Reader : I apologise for accidentally using my powers last night...
Sindel : Don't be, dear, it was an interesting experience.
-
Reader : With great power, comes great responsibility.
Sindel : Inspiring words, I trust you to live up to them.
-
Sindel : Your abilities are promising, let's hope you put them to good use.
Reader : I'll do my best, I always try to.
-
Sindel : I never thought I'd feel this way again...
Reader : What? I don't understand, Empress.
-
Teen Reader -
Reader : Oh, come on! It's so fun to swing around!
Sindel : It's childish at best, Earthrealmer
-
Reader : You're so level headed...
Sindel : And you're immature.
-
Sindel : Hah! Liu Kang sends a child?
Reader : Will you people stop acting like I'm incompetent?!
-
Sindel : You are a worthy adversary, but far too much of a jester.
Reader : I fight crime flawlessly, I should get to joke once and a while!
-
Syzoth / Reptile
Tumblr media
Adult Reader -
Reader : I love you, Syzoth, but I can't stay.
Reptile : I won't fault you for returning to Earthrealm to protect your family.
-
Reader : You want us both to be invisible while we-
Reptile : It was just an idea.
-
Reptile : Our abilities make us challenging adversaries.
Reader : It's only fitting that we come together as one.
-
Reptile : You are always away from me.
Reader : I have responsibilities at home, Syzoth.
-
Teen Reader -
Reader : Woah, you can turn invisible? So can I!
Reptile : But are you as stealthy as me?
-
Reader : Look at me! I'm upside down!
Reptile : I can see that, Earthrealmer.
-
Reptile : You need to stay home, even with your abilities, it's far too dangerous here.
Reader : I can handle this place!
-
Reptile : Just because you can electrocute people, doesn't mean you're prepared to fight Shang Tsung.
Reader : I have to at least try.

WIBTA if I made a document that publicly pointed out that my ex-mutuals (and former close friends) had NSFW discussions with minors (which included me at the time)?
TW for possible grooming; I'm not sure what criteria behavior has to meet to be grooming, but we'll get there when we get there.
I mainly feel like this is just petty because it happened back in 2021/2022, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to get some judgement for this. Also, to get this out of the way ahead of time, as far as I know nobody was baiting anyone; in fact I didn't realize that the behavior from my adult mutuals was probably not good until INCREDIBLY recently.
So for context, two years ago I (gender irrelevant, but I'm almost 20) had a fairly close-knit friend group. Mixed ages, but I believe the youngest was around 16. Oldest was mid-20s. When everything started, I was 17. My mental/emotional maturity isn't exactly that of a 20 year old, and my mental/emotional maturity at that age wasn't exactly that of a 17 year old. I very much act younger than I am sometimes, especially online. Additionally, I was open about my life at home not being great.
As an emotionally and mentally immature 17 year old, I would post NSFW in the form of text more than I should have (by which I mean I probably shouldn't have been doing it all at 17, at the very least not publicly where adults could find it). At the start I was pretty openly hesitant about it, but the adults in my mutual circle honestly kinda encouraged it? This eventually spread out, and my mutuals who were younger than me started joining in (and remember, these mutuals were 16-17, and the oldest adult in the mutual circle was mid-20s; before I get asked, I do believe the adults in the group were aware as most of the individuals in this mutual circle had either their age or their age range {ie, minor or adult} in their bios).
This experience, frankly predictably, caused a fuckton of damage to my moral view when it comes to this kind of stuff, by which I mean I've seen similar situations, saw people telling the younger person to get out, and thought "man I feel like they're overreacting" when they're obviously not. I don't know if desensitizing me to it was intentional or not, and that specifically is why I don't know if it qualifies as grooming (as I am unsure if grooming has to be intentional or not).
Seeing people interact with me then looking through their posts to find out they've interacted with the adults in this ex-friend group just puts a bad taste in my mouth, which again, is something I didn't realize the reasoning for until recently.
I just kinda feel like it'd be a dick move to make a document detailing things that happened 2 years ago, but at the same time someone in their mid-20s having and encouraging NSFW conversations with minors is something I think is worth pointing out. So WIBTA if I made a document detailing all this and posted it publicly?
What are these acronyms?

Not related to lore Olympus but this discussion seems a bit uhh strange. Some of the comments are calling Mattie bites a right woman hater. If you don't believe me,check this out.
https://www.reddit.com/r/webtoons/s/4zaDi6fWos
god okay I feel like I'm opening Pandora's Box with this shit but I have lots to say about it so... yeah fuck it, let's do this, I'm brave-
So I can absolutely agree with OP's sentiment that BlackLightJack's content has become uh... more aggressive and mean-spirited , and don't get me wrong, that was always sort of his vibe, but now it feels like he's straight up just weaponizing his fanbase and like... y'all know how curt I get about LO here, I can be a real asshole about it, even I think what BLJ is doing feels really shitty, immature, and frankly just uninformed? Because most of his videos are just him pout-screaming profanities into the microphone, like I know this is gonna sound nitpicky and petty but I can literally hear it in his voice that he's enunciating his words the same way an 8 year old would so that spit would land on the person they're yelling at ("STOOOOOOOOO-PPP-UHHHHH") and lately his content just feels like what it used to feel like being in CoD lobbies back in the day. Him having the name 'webtoon killer' just gives me such a sour taste in my mouth. Like... this feels like some kind of Batman villain in the making LMAO
But maybe no one wants to hear that opinion from someone like me who's literally called themselves the "far superior off brand" as a gag LMAO and that's fine honestly if you think I'm full of shit, this is also just my opinion!
But like... and I know I'm being an asshole going 'b-but-!' but... BLJ is also building an entire ass monetized platform off his vibe and using that platform to specifically go after Canvas series and creators. And let me tell you, while many would argue "well it's just the webtoons that are grossly negligent / breaking Webtoons' ToS / etc.", his fanbase is also constantly just sending him new comics to read and trash on and I feel like it's only a matter of time before he goes after a completely innocent creator whose only crime was being not great at webcomics which... shouldn't be viewed as a default crime punishable by pitchforks. That sorta already happened with the Fulcagay situation, I don't know Fulcagay and he almost definitely wouldn't know me, but he's a fellow Canvas creator who I've run into and shared a space with, and BLJ's original comments about him just felt incredibly off-base and volatile without giving even a shred of benefit of the doubt. I get the sense BLJ doesn't know about Hanlon's razor ("Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity") because EVERY video he does about every comic and creator he's addressing assumes maliciousness always.
This is the same shit we got with Youtube creators like Leafy who became infamous for just taking the piss out of everyone until they took it too far. Like, take it from me, it can be VERY easy to get so entrenched in being an asshole and taking the piss out of everything that completely innocent people get hit with splash damage, and if you're not willing to take responsibility for that, then you're gonna look like a bigger dick than the people you were aiming for. This pee analogy working for y'all? 😆
As for what Matty Bites has to do with that, I don't really get it? Like maybe I'm just misinformed here, maybe I haven't watched enough of her stuff, but she's never given me anywhere near the amount of red flags I get off listening to even one episode of BLJ. Matty feels like someone who actually reads and analyzes and researches the stuff she's criticizing in a way that's relatively harmless with her own flair sprinkled in (and her humor is hilarious btw, her opening skits are great LOL); BLJ meanwhile feels like he's constantly one opinion away from starting a #victimofcancelculture campaign because he's just trying to be as edgy and angry as possible LMAO (and ironically they're both often criticizing the same thing, but it goes to show how delivery makes a hell of a difference when it comes to dishing out criticism)
All that said, if there is something with Matty Bites that I'm missing here, I'm fully open to being informed because I haven't watched many of her videos and there could just as well be something that I've missed. But I don't think she's anywhere near as hostile as BLJ tends to be, I don't think Matty Bites' comedic video editing and sassy commentary has ever resulted in creators actually being attacked and bullied like BLJ's have.
Overall I think anyone who builds a platform or audience off criticizing content (and this includes me!) needs to practice responsibility and accountability in what they put out and what they choose to focus on and criticize. It can be really easy to accidentally use "criticism" as a get-out-of-jail-free card to just be a bully. It can be really easy to wind up leaving your criticism so unrefined and surface level without any deeper reflection that you never actually open your mind to anything and you just end up echoing out hate speech without even intending to. And it can be really, really easy to ruin your own palate from willingly consuming nothing but shit all day.
Just to quote some very famous words from a fictional character that absolutely apply here:

More rainworld ramblings: DP spoils under cut
I may get hate for this hc but it's my headcanon not yours, and if you believe otherwise good for you.
Again I don't expect anyone to read these it just makes me happy to ramble.
After reviewing all SRS dialogue with Pebbles and NSH, its pretty clear they really don't get that their actions affected more than just their life. I mean they only mention Moon a few times, and usually it's because NSH brings it up.
I don't hate SRS as a character, they're written really well to make me feel so strongly about how bad of a friend they are to NSH and FP. And I still think they're a silly lil dude despite being, a terrible friend.
I'll review what we know.
First Offence: Spearmaster's pearl
The message seems really sweet at first glance and you think, man FP is being such a douche right now. And well he is, but he's also really young, and he's in pain, being cyberbullied by UI, and upset. Sun's approach is not very good for his current mentality, they come in preaching things FP already knows about, they berate him for not doing the experiment right and acting rashly despite him being in pain as his insides are getting eaten, and they know, him they know that he's emotionally immature and probably really upset, and they chose to send him something they knew would just make him more upset.
Second Offence: Watch in Horror Broadcast
-
[LIVE BROADCAST] - PRIVATE Seven Red Suns, No Significant Harassment SRS: I'm in noticing you are becoming more defensive. This obviously wasn't the end result I was aiming for, you know. SRS: Please respond to my messages. I don't want to leave it like this. I need someone to talk to. NSH: I don't mean to be cold, I'm just very worried. NSH: The activity I'm seeing from Moon's can is becoming increasingly... concerning. NSH: Our available options are rapidly diminishing, and I feel helpless to do anything. NSH: I can just watch in horror. SRS: ... NSH: You should have sent the messenger to Moon instead of Pebbles. SRS: Do you think that would have helped anything? NSH: To be honest, no... I'm not sure that it would.
Suns gets on NSH's ass for being upset Moon is dead. There is no, I'm sorry for your loss, or even comforting NSH. It's just "I need someone to talk to" it's about SRS, and how SRS feels. Not how NSH feels. And this is more apparent in the other broadcasts because it's just about Suns and how they feel about Pebbles or about Spearmaster.
Third Offense: Humiliated Broadcast
[LIVE BROADCAST] - PRIVATE Seven Red Suns, No Significant Harassment SRS: I'm just so frustrated. SRS: I feel like I've doomed not one. but two iterators. SRS: And in the whole process I've lost a great friend, who won't even let me help him. NSH: We make mistakes, it'll be okay. You know Five Pebbles really looks up to you. SRS: Yes, I know that, but... NSH: I think he's scared. Scared, and humiliated. Unparalleled Innocence spreading the news probably made him feel even worse. SRS: ...I think you're right.
this one is actually not bad, but still the conversation is about SRS, they don't ask how NSH feels despite being Suns' therapist friend this whole time.
Fourth Offence: Tragic and Big Setback broadcasts
[LIVE BROADCAST] - PRIVATE Seven Red Suns, No Significant Harassment SRS: I just don't understand... why hasn't Moon done anything about the situation herself? SRS: She was appointed as Pebbles' superior. She has the power to stop him. NSH: I've been very close with Moon, and I can tell you she is incredibly caring. NSH: And while her kindness is one of her greatest attributes, it is also to her detriment. SRS: Isn't this excessive, though? Surely she at least has a sense of self-preservation. NSH: I'm sure she convinced herself that she could help Pebbles. That she could bring him under control with words rather than forced action. NSH: She's probably still trying that now, unless her systems have degraded past the point of even allowing that. NSH: That's why this is so tragic to me. [LIVE BROADCAST] - PRIVATE Seven Red Suns, No Significant Harassment SRS: I remember talking with Five Pebbles not too long after he was first put online. He had a bit of defiance, even back then. SRS: It was an odd situation, to be certain. Its quite rare for one iterator to be made the administrator of another. Just as rare as them being built right next to each other. NSH: His lack of appreciation used to bother me. Moon was a great big sister to him! SRS: Yes, absolutely. However. Five Pebbles had a very strong drive for independence. He was never one to want to be told what to do. NSH: I think a lot of us were like that in the beginning. I remember being in that phase a very long time ago. It takes many iterations for our world views to develop and for us to realize the flaws in those lines of thinking. NSH: Unfortunately, from what I've seen, Five Pebbles seems to have plateaued at that phase. SRS: No, that's not true. I was helping him to get past it. We were making good progress, actually! SRS: The current situation, however, is going to be a very big setback...
I don't like the way SRS explains Moon to NSH despite him being closer to Moon than Suns is, you know Pebbles, NSH knows Moon.
And I just hate the whole big setback chat, seems like they're (NSH and SRS) objectifying Pebbles and treating him like a project rather than a person. Also feels like they're forgetting that he's younger than they are so he's still growing.
AGAIN despite saying all this I enjoy SRS's character, their role in the story and their dynamic in the group feels good, and real. It's exactly how a friend group like this would work. It just confuses me a little how people depict Suns often as a caring person when they are really never shown to be considerate of anyone's feelings like Moon or NSH is. I don't think SRS was a good influence on Pebbles, and might be the reason he's the way he is.
This entire thing is partially why I also don't really ship sunstone, but yk I still enjoy the Sunstone art and stuff. I don't waste my time chasing people I don't agree with. You've got your ideas I've got mine, I bet your art/story is beautiful it's just not for me.

Hi ❤️ I was wondering, how did you like New Spring if you've finished reading it?
Personally I think it was a great choice to read it even before getting into the Eye of the World and I enjoyed all the details about Moiraine, Siuan and Lan's backgrounds/relationships. It made reading EotW even a little easier to me. The only complain I have is that it was too short 🥲
BTW do you have any favorite parts that you'd like to see as flashbacks on the show?! I would love to get a scene of Moiraine and Lan meeting for the first time or their first bonding!
Oh no! I am so, so sorry for not replying sooner. I really didn't mean to leave you hanging. I was excited to receive this question, and then neglected to respond for...two weeks? Oh boy. I apologize.
I did truly love New Spring. Ripped through it in a couple of days over my reading break (a highlight!). I actually totally agree with you re: reading order. I'm not particularly stringent about that in any case, but I say, if you most ardently adore enjoy a character, just dive in and read everything ever directly written about them :D
It has now been a while since I read it, but I think that most of all I appreciated these very flawed, smart, and funny characters it brought to life. I've mentioned this before in a post, but I'll say it again as many times as possible: I love (love! LOVE) Mo's social ineptitude. Or at least that she treats most social interactions like a dramatic performance, where she has to put on a certain face based on her training and her upbringing. I find the part of the book where she learns about power structures in the Blue Ajah, and the fact that she picks up on this complicated dance of deference and authority that someone (Eadyth?) must then explain verbally, to be incredibly moving. Who among us hasn't felt the temperature of an intricate web of social relations, not natural but cultural (or maybe a combination of the two, where difference is felt and ostracized accordingly, sometimes in a very insidious and subtle way) and been utterly confused, and wished that someone would just explain what the fuck is going on between people? All of this says a lot about her background: culture, class, and also her particular brand of neurosis. I find it very endearing and more relatable than I care to admit (outside of this space). Yeah, also I think she's autistic. I'm nd as all hell and I think so, so it must be true.
Also, I love that we get mean Mo. Impatient Mo. Stubborn, obstinate, and immature Mo. She really did grow up with Lan. I think that's gorgeous. These two are actually kids when they meet, and then it's just them for 20 years on the road, and they learn to be PEOPLE, and to not communicate, and to fulfil the roles that are required of them/all that their duty really entails/how to navigate the politics of their world. Just the two of them. I would kill for flashbacks to times after they initially bonded, and how they were able to grow so close after a rather sticky beginning. I think the answer lies in the empathy that is inherent in a bond. Lan sees Mo as a stubborn child, but when he finally feels the fear and doubt and uncertainty she struggles with every day... a child doesn't normally feel those things. She struggles with the weight of the responsibility that has suddenly been thrust upon her, a responsibility that, to her great credit, she approaches bravely and willingly. Mo, too, can't stand Lan at first (I personally think she is jealous of his gravitas and his calm: we know she wants to be that way, but can't yet. Not until she grows up a little more), but she will soon meet the man who has been raised from birth to be the king of a nation that no longer exists. And what that does to a person. And exactly why Lan must be the way that he is (and how much she can learn from him). Also, I actually cried laughing and just gleefully clapped and giggled when Mo was pranking Lan and her inner voice was just...so conniving and sneaky and clever. "He would meet the wasps in perfect health." I genuinely think it's the funniest line ever written (perhaps that says more about my dumb sense of humour than RJ's comedic ability, but to his credit, he is really fucking funny sometimes).
And I can't end my little rant without talking about Siuan. I so appreciated the chance to get to know this character, who is introduced so beautifully to us in the show at the height of her power. As someone who is more than a little bossy, strategic, and clever, and who is very accustomed to being in control of a room. I love seeing what that looks like in a young person. She has the confidence, personality, and work ethic, but not yet the experience to be an effective leader. However, she leads Moiraine. And Moiraine likes it and she lets her. Again, relatable. More than I care to admit outside of this space. I also am fascinated by the cultural and class differences between the two women. The qualities they share (curiosity, drive, ambition, and so, so much integrity) are almost outweighed by those differences (Siuan is measured where Mo is impulsive, Siuan is frugal where Mo spends lavishly, Siuan is irreverent and unconstrained by the expectations of her rank, while Mo is and has always been bound by them). It's cool to see how they change one another. And the ways in which they remain unchanged into adulthood. Right up until we meet them together in the show. Also I think it's really fucking cute that Moiraine wanted to sugar momma Siuan so bad that she tried to buy her a horse. Who?? among us?? hasn't lived that fantasy?? No? Just me? (I would love to sugar momma my baby girl, if only I had the means).
Will you tell me what you thought about it, too? I would love to hear all of your thoughts. What would you like to see explored in the show?
Thank you so much for your thoughtful asks. I love answering them, even when I take too long.

3. In The Untamed, for some reason the Jiang trio don't speak up or look for Wen Qing & Wen Ning when all the fighting is over. I'm hoping there was some kind of good reason for that, but it bothers me. Particularly since they wrote in all that romance subplot for Jiang Cheng and Wen Qing. But anyway, none of them spoke up before WWX literally ran into Wen Qing. But you know who else was on Dafan Mountan with the scary statue and the local Wens turned it puppets?  Who also saw Wen Qing try to protect them and spent time inside WWX's string talisman cage thing with her?
Nie Huaisang. He also knows that there were some Wen being held hostage by Wen Chao to force Wen Qing's obedience. Heck, Wen Qing and/or Wen Ning could plausibly have been the ones to care for him when NHS fainted at the indoctrination camp. What if he had told all this to his brother? Either during the war or as soon as he showed up in the Nightless City for the Very Awkward Victory Dinner.
Emotional Support - ao3
“It’s done,” Nie Mingjue said, and promptly collapsed face-first on Nie Huaisang’s bed.
Nie Huaisang patted him on the back of the head.
“There, there,” he said. “The mean politicians won’t hurt you anymore.”
His brother mumbled something into the sheets that sounded suspiciously like Wanna bet?
“Today,” Nie Huaisang revised. “They won’t hurt you any more today. Tomorrow is a new day.”
His brother groaned.
Clearly it had been an especially awful day, and someone was in need of some attention.
“So what did you end up deciding?” Nie Huaisang asked. He even put aside the book he’d been reading, which was a huge sacrifice on his part. But in fairness, his brother hadn’t acted immature in his presence for years and years by now, not since they were little kids, and he had just won a war and avenged their father; a little sacrifice on Nie Huaisang’s part seemed to be reasonable.
“Jin Guangshan’s going to be throwing a party,” Nie Mingjue said at once, and Nie Huaisang had to hide a smile – of course that would be the most traumatic part of it for his brother, who hated parties and hated politics and (in all honesty) hated most people. He didn’t have any ear for music or an eye for dance, so he couldn’t even enjoy the entertainment, and the Jin sect tended to, as his brother put it, “cook their food beyond recognition.”
“I could get horribly sick right before?” Nie Huaisang offered.
“No, it’s to celebrate the end of the war. We have to attend. Inauspicious not to.”
“Ah, I see, I see. My sympathies.”
“You have to attend, too.”
“Yes, but I’ll actually enjoy it, I like parties and socializing,” Nie Huaisang pointed out, mercilessly, and his brother groaned again. “Anyway, tell me something good instead. What did you end up doing with – ”
He cast around for a subject. It was hard, given that he didn’t care much about politics, and there were so many ‘things that could not be spoken of’! He couldn’t ask about Lan Xichen, because he’d been proposing a sworn brotherhood with Meng Yao and his brother didn’t want to think about that (though he’d probably give in eventually given how much he’d always liked Meng Yao before it had all gone wrong up somehow), he definitely couldn’t ask about Meng Yao for obvious reasons, his brother wouldn’t care or even know about the forever ongoing Jin Zixuan and Jiang Yanli drama, the Jiang sect was also a no-go subject (his brother had literally done everything in his power to warn them of a possible attack short of moving personally to the Lotus Pier to try to defend them, and yet he still felt bad about what had happened), Wei Wuxian had turned into a possibly insane demonic cultivator and everything about him had become incredibly awkward…
Wow, he was running out of Great Sects to pick from.
“ – the leftover people from the Wen sect?” Nie Huaisang finally settled on.
Mostly out of lack of anything better.
It was pretty weak. His brother even turned around and cracked open an eye to give him a judgmental look, which was pretty well deserved.
Still, there wasn’t anything else to talk about, so Nie Huaisang gave his brother an expectant look until he gave in, as he usually did.
“They’ll be resettled somewhere,” Nie Mingjue begrudgingly said. “Xichen’s idea, giving them mercy, and everyone agreed – even Jin Guangshan. They’ll be given good farmland, a place to live peacefully, albeit with a guard, at least at first. The Jin sect promised to take care of it. Suppose they figured they might as well contribute something to the war effort…”
More likely they thought that throwing around their money now would be enticing to all those sects that needed money for rebuilding, Nie Huaisang thought cynically, which was all of them. His own included!
They were short on everything now, thanks to the war. His own spending budget was practically inviolable – the one time he’d tried to cut back voluntarily, half the sect had emptied out their own pockets to slip spending money into his room and he was still finding random strings of coins in weird places – but for just about everything else, they needed to scrimp and save up the money to pay. There were building repairs, which meant both supplies and workers; more disciples, which meant more weapons, more clothing, more food; more staff and civilian support, which meant even more food, and of course as non-cultivators they also got sick more easily, which also meant more doctors…
Hmm, actually, that reminded Nie Huaisang.
“Farmland, you say?” he asked, propping up his chin on his hand. “What about the ones that aren’t farmers?”
“The ones – you mean the Wen sect?” His brother rolled onto his side. “Who cares if they weren’t originally farmers? What do you expect them to do, continue being soldiers?”
“Not soldiers,” Nie Huaisang said, rolling his eyes. “But the ones who had other professions! There was that girl who came to the Cloud Recesses at the same time as Jiang-xiong and Wei-xiong, what’s her name, Wen Qing. She’s one of the ones from Dafan.”
“I’m familiar with Wen Ruohan’s niece,” Nie Mingjue said dryly. “Her medical skills were reputedly the only thing that kept that madman going after he poisoned himself with Yin Metal.”
“Oh, that.He was probably threatening her family.” Nie Huaisang shrugged when his brother stared at him. “She had a cute little brother, a stutterer, nearly as much of a good-for-nothing as me, plus a bunch of people back in Dafan…don’t you remember, I told you, the thing with the statute?”
“That time you went into Wen territory on your way home from the Cloud Recesses? Yes, it rings a bell.”
“Not the point,” Nie Huaisang protested. “The point is, we know she’s a good doctor, right? A doctor and a young lady, which means she’ll probably be shit at farming…and we could use more doctors that won’t turn their nose up at treating non-cultivators.”
“Are you suggesting that we bring people surnamed Wen here?”
“Why not? Wen Ruohan’s dead, and he’s the one we really hated. Anyway, it’s not as if the Jin are going to complain if we poach a few of the Wen for our own purposes, right? That’s just less farmland they have to pay for.”
“…we don’t even know if Wen Qing is even with the Jin sect,” his brother argued, but it was weak and they both knew it. “They didn’t catch everyone, you know, it’s only the prisoners of war. Some of them might still be loose. Or she could have died, or something…”
“The point is still a good one,” Nie Huaisang said virtuously, enjoying being the one in the right for once. “To the extent that any of the ones that were captured by the Jin sect aren’t suited for farming or have other professional skills, we can pick a few of the best and bring them back here. As long as we only bring back a few, they’ll be vastly outnumbered and won’t dare to make trouble…you know, maybe that’s the reason the Jin sect decided to volunteer? Getting first call on picking out the more talented Wen to recruit seems like something they’d do, more than actually contributing to the war.”
Nie Mingjue groaned a third time, which was probably a concession.
Nie Huaisang decided to play his trump card.
“Anyway, if the Jin are angry about us doing a bit of poaching, they might get so huffy that they’d cancel their horrible victory feast…”
“We should be so lucky,” Nie Mingjue grumbled. “No, don’t promise me fantasies, there’s no way they’re cancelling that. But we can go look for Wen Qing anyway.”
“And Wen Ning! That’s the brother I mentioned, the cute one.”
“…that’s the second time you’ve said he was cute, Huaisang.”
“Well, he is,” Nie Huaisang said. “I’m not sure what you’re getting at.”
“I’m getting at the fact that your argument hinges on us only taking those that have useful skills, and it doesn’t sound like he has any useful skills.”
Nie Huaisang thought about it, but the only skill he’d ever seen or heard of Wen Ning displaying was that one time Wei Wuxian had claimed without any backup he was good at archery, but obviously that wouldn’t help his argument at all. Not that he was going to let that get in the way of an argument with his brother, of course.
“His skill is the fact that he’s cute,” he proclaimed. “His presence is very comforting!”
“…are you suggesting that you want him around for emotional support?”
“He’s my emotional support Wen,” Nie Huaisang said, and managed to hold out for exactly two heartbeats before descending into cackling. “Oh, that’s terrible, even for me.”
“It really is,” Nie Mingjue agreed. He’d hidden his face back in the bed but he sounded like he was smiling. “All right, you win, have it your way the way you always do. We’ll go check out the Qiongqi Path in another half-month or so.”
“Another half-month? Why not now?”
“I’m busy. Lan Xichen…anyway, I’m busy. Maybe we can time it to be just before that awful party.”
“So that Jin Guangshan will be too busy complaining about that to do anything else? I see the logic.” Nie Huaisang carefully didn’t mention what was probably going to be a sworn brotherhood ceremony his brother didn’t especially want to engage in. He still didn’t know what had happened that had made his brother so angry at Meng Yao, but it’d only gotten worse as of late, as had his brother’s paranoia about not letting Nie Huaisang anywhere near Meng Yao. “Of course, that might mean he’d try to talk to you throughout the party…if you want, I can go by myself to check out the last few Wen sect. While you’re busy.”
As expected, his brother looked relieved at the suggestion. There really wasn’t any justifiable reason for him to keep Nie Huaisang, as a blood relation, from attending a fancy sworn brotherhood ceremony, but if Nie Huaisang did what he usually did and ‘wandered away’ on his own business right beforehand, unable to be found, well, that was all on empty-headed Nie Huaisang’s own head, wasn’t it?
And after, once the oaths were sworn, his brother would feel more comfortable about allowing Meng Yao to interact with Nie Huaisang again.
“Yes, I like that idea,” Nie Huaisang said amiably. It was the least he could do. “I’ll head out tomorrow or the day after – I’ll take a few others with me, don’t give me that look! I wasn’t planning on going by myself!”
“Uh-huh,” his brother said skeptically. “Remind me again about when you spent time with Wen Qing? Something about encountering a goddess statute when it was just you, Lan Wangji, and Wei Wuxian..?”
“And Jiang Cheng!”
“Huaisang…”
“In fact, maybe I’ll ask one of them if they want to come with me,” Nie Huaisang said haughtily. “It’ll be just like old times!”
“Huaisang, leave them alone. Don’t they have to rebuild their own sects?”
“All the more reason for them to come with me,” Nie Huaisang argued. “They need spare manpower as much as we do, don’t they? More, in Jiang Cheng’s case!”
“Jiang Wanyin will be preparing for Jin Guangshan’s party, same as me.”
“Sure, but Wei Wuxian won’t be. He’s worse at parties than you are, da-ge, and that’s saying something.”
“You are not allowed to go by yourself with Wei Wuxian,” Nie Mingjue said, and his voice had a tone of finality. “It’s not the way it used to be, with him being a talented young master. We don’t yet know what effects that demonic cultivation of his will have on him – and the Yin Tiger Seal, too…”
“Fine. Then I’ll get Lan Wangji to come with us,” Nie Huaisang said. “He’s not the heir either, and it’d be more convenient if none of us younger brothers were at that thing you are going to be busy with, right? You can’t seriously be worried that Wei Wuxian will try something if Lan Wangji’s on his back all the time.”
“They’re friends, aren’t they? Would you really say that it’s being ‘on his back’?”
“Uh, yes. You’ve met Lan Wangji! The more he likes you, the more he quotes rules at you! If he dislikes you, he’ll just ignore you!”
Nie Mingjue was forced into a chuckle. “Yes, well, I suppose you have a point…take some Nie disciples with you as well, all right? Just in case.”
“Fine, fine, ruin my fun! We’ll take a complete caravan, it’ll be a complete circus, but at least we’ll be safe and secure and ready to fight in the event we should be menaced by, I don’t know, a small army or something.”
His brother was actually laughing now.
Much better.
Nie Huaisang smiled and picked up his book again. He’d go find Wei Wuxian tomorrow, he thought to himself, contented, and Lan Wangji as well – the latter would agree as soon as he knew the former was coming, he was sure. Jiang Cheng would probably be happy to see them get out of his way while he was trying to negotiate tricky political waters, and it wasn’t as if they were actually going to end up causing any serious trouble, after all.
They were going to be visiting a farm. How much political trouble could they find there?

hello! any advice to get out of your head for someone who hasn’t picked up writing since they were a teenager? for some reason, in my head, i view writing on my own time for fun as “embarrassing” or “cringy” simply because i’m getting older and view it as a immature hobby…
…which is obviously not true! i have a lot of respect for writers and i know you can write at any age, but whenever i open a page, i feel out of place and can’t read my old writing in fear people would look at me as immature. the same goes for creating detailed characters and storylines.
i’m not even old either (19) but i mainly wrote a lot in middle school—maybe that’s why? idk.
tdlr; any advice on writing for myself again without fear of judgement?
Hi anon,
Thanks for writing in! This is something a lot of creators struggle with especially if it’s something they did when they were younger and during a time they considered themselves to be “immature” or “cringey”. The brain is great at linking things and creating patterns, and because you wrote a lot when you were in middle school, a time period that I think is universally accepted as the worst and cringiest part of life lol, your mind linked the hobbies you did during that time to the feeling of immaturity and cringiness. The great news is that most people grow out of this phase naturally! I know it’s not exactly the same but I remember when I was just starting college I felt embarrassed to talk about the bands I liked in high school (and secretly still liked) but as I got older and became more self confident and sure of myself, I learned to unabashedly embrace those parts of myself. And nobody cared! In fact a lot of people felt the same way as I did.
But don’t worry, I’m not saying that you just have to wait it out! There are definitely things you can do to speed up this process. My first suggestion is that if you’re worried that people will think writing for fun is immature (which as a 29 year-old with a writing themed blog I promise you it’s not!) , then for right now, just don’t tell anyone! It can be your secret hobby while you learn to be more confident and rewire the way your brain thinks about this.
I’d also suggest trying to find other people who also enjoy writing either as a hobby or as a hopeful profession so you have a safe community you can explore your writing in. Surrounding yourself with like minded people can be really helpful! I remember the first time I attended a writing workshop it felt so amazing and freeing to be surrounded by people who I knew also loved writing and were never going to judge me for my passion. It’s currently national novel writing month and even if you don’t feel up to trying to write an entire novel in one month, there are still plenty of NaNoWriMo activities you can take part in. There are tons of discord channels, forums, virtual events, and in person events you could join.
A lot of it will just be reminding yourself that it’s not immature or cringey. This won’t change you knee jerk reaction overnight, but just like how positive affirmations work (at first you think it’s dumb, then it’s kind of neutral, and then you start to believe what you’re saying to yourself) after a while you’ll find that the way you think about writing has changed. Think of writers you love and admire and how you don’t think they’re immature or cringey for writing, and neither do most people! Think of Tolkien who created incredibly detailed story lines and characters, and even went so far as to create multiple fake languages that many people now genuinely learn for fun. Even if fantasy isn’t your preferred genre I have yet to meet someone who considers what he did anything less than impressive. Not once have I heard someone call what he did immature or cringey. So I think just recognizing that you have this thought pattern that your logical brain knows isn’t true, and for now just accepting that you have this cognitive dissonance and not feeling bad about it, but taking these small steps to work towards changing that thought pattern.
And finally, just write anyway! Like I said you can keep it a secret for now if you want to, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! But try to write anyway. The more you write now then the more examples your brain has to rewire writing not as something you did when you were younger and therefore something immature but as something you do now as a young adult. And don’t put too much pressure on yourself as you’re getting back into writing for the first time in a while. Do not expect that your first attempt is going to be a masterpiece, but just have fun with it! Get into the habit or writing regularly, whatever that means for you. It could be once a week, it could be every day, just do what works for your life and your schedule right now. The more you practice the more normal it’ll feel and like anything, the better you’ll get at it, which will help you feel less cringey about your writing.
I’ll leave you with one small anecdote. Any time I tell people that I’m writing a novel they are always immediately impressed. I have never had someone say anything negative about it or anyone act like it was a dumb thing to spend time on. And most of the time I hear things like “Oh I wish I could do that, but I just don’t have the dedication.” Or “Oh I always wanted to write a novel, maybe I’ll give it a try now” or “Oh me too! What writing software do you use?”
I know this was a long answer but I wanted to try and ensure I was actually helpful! Please always feel free to reach out if you have other questions, or if you ever just need another reminder that there is nothing immature or cringey about wanting to write in your free time.

Why do you like yandere stuff so much? No judgement, I'm just wondering cause I noticed a lot of people like it and I just can't wrap my head around it, so I wanted to ask a few people who enjoy it
WELL it's a bit of a loaded answer... I obvs can't answer for everyone, so this is just my personal take:
(pretty long and also just ioewjgfuireuiver kinda emBARRASSING so ima put it under here)
A bitch be lonely. I think that's the most common thing that draws people to the trope. Like, if you're someone who grew up without friends like me, the idea of being solely idolized by someone, like given their complete attention is just rlly appealing to me. To be loved, to be wanted, to be worshiped no matter how much your brain has convinced you that you're not worthy of love is just *chef's kiss*
The attention. This is kinda the same as the first answer but for me a big thing I love in the trope is when I- or well y/n, more correctly- gets praised a lot and treated like they're the most important thing in the world. I already have awful self-esteem so I like being told I'm perfect and wonderful as I am (TヘT) I think most people also have this mindset.
Being taken care of completely. No more worries about bills, food, shelter, etc... cause it's all taken care of for you (whether u like it or not so you don't have to feel guilty about it lol)
The whole power dynamic. I don't rlly have a sub/dom kink or at least not the mainstream kind (?) but I do enjoy the idea of being able to let go and just be myself without having to worry about judgement or societal norms- because, well, said character has already broken out of what's considered acceptable by kidnapping you or whatever so we're already past that lol.
Kinda adding onto that, being able to be flawed without, again, worrying about putting someone off. You can be ugly, socially inept, talentless, fuckin' stupid, whatever, and it's all okay. You don't have to fit in with anything society deems attractive- said character is flawed enough themselves to find you perfect.
The danger aspect. I love horror in general, so it's kind of like that for me. I have severe anxiety so being able to just feel scared for a while can be incredibly cathartic for me.
The "reframing" thing. In case you haven't noticed, yandere stuff for me tends to be pretty light-hearted. While I'm totally cool with people enjoying yandere stuff with tons of blood/violence/etc, I usually go for "softer" stuff, like stalking, kidnapping, etc. In a way, I'm taking something that makes me feel helpless and scared and making it something that brings me an odd sort of comfort. I suppose this is a way I can cope with anxiety- by taking some form of fear, like how I often feel helpless and trapped during panic attacks, and putting it in the context of when I'm helpless and trapped but in the arms of someone who wants nothing more than to protect me and would literally crush anyone/anything that tried to hurt me aaaAAA ❤️
The fact that it it's fiction! Fiction is a beautiful thing, where you can tackle potentially traumatic things without irl consequences. Would I want anything like this irl? NO!! Stalking/kidnapping/what have you is absolutely vile if it takes place in real life. Even stuff like be very controlling of a partner (unless you have their complete consent and have talked this stuff out ahead of time/have a safe word and all) is entirely unhealthy and toxic. In fiction?? Go for it. It can also be a great way to cope with intrusive thoughts if you suffer from those as well.
That being said, it's absolutely not for everyone, and I imagine most people would find the trope to be disgusting and horrific- and that is completely understandable and okay! It's up to people (who I'm assuming and HOPING are 18+ bc if you're a minor it can be way harder to distinguish reality from fiction and lead an immature person to believe any of these traits like being controlling/ultra possessive are okay irl and maybe even encourage them to seek out abusive relationships/yandere stuff tends to be thrown in with stuff like violence, sexuality, really disturbing stuff in general, etc so when I say all these things, it's coming from my ADULT perspective) to be discerning of what they can handle both mentally and emotionally. If it leaves you feeling gross, creeped out, or disturbed in some way, stop and avoid it.
Alright, sorry for the ramble! As you can tell I'm pretty passionate about it. I hope that answered your question somewhat! ✨

Of course Ming Ye’s plan to save Sang Jiu involves gruesomely dying in her stead. If aesthetically suffering was an Olympic sport, the man would be going for a gold medal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have my issues with this portion of the story (not the way it’s written, it’s done well, but with my liking or lack thereof for this couple, about which more below) but this is the important point! Yes, the tears are important blah blah but this is a lesson about how to swap someone’s demonic stuff without, you know, driving nails into them like they are evil Jesus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By now, I am quite done with these two boneheads, but I confess that made even my cold black shriveled heart hurt.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I guess they had a starter marriage :P)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ummmm, honey! She just massacred 10K people! I am sure they had old and kids among them. Like...by now I want to smack both of them with a shovel, tbh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Awwww. Even with my annoyance at these two, this once again made me :(
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sang Jiu being her charming self. Let the man die in peace (or, since you yourself are about to keel over), let him survive in peace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
OK, OK, Mousie, stop being irritated and concentrate on how pretty LYX looks here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then she’s all “psych! I can’t be undevilized or even survive because my normal body is dead.” You couldn’t have let him know BEFORE he got repeatedly flambeed for you?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s OK, hot dimbulb, there are many many fangirls who will gladly accept your...ahem...divine essence. All night long.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What the hell! Now that she’s dying, she still wants to do her best so he’d not have any peace. No dissipating before a final twist of the knife. WTF! By now, any shred of sympathy I had for her (and to a large degree MY) has disappeared utterly. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think it’s bad writing - just as MY is terrible at communicating and prone to dramatic gestures over common sense functioning, Sang Jiu is incredibly self-absorbed and immature from beginning to end. She was someone who thought it was a great idea to marry a guy who did not know her at all because he was hot. She also thought it was a great idea to force him into sex right after they got divorced. She didn’t wait to find out whether the method she came up with would result in divine punishment or whether it was still worth it to use the crystal chalice despite where it came from or or or or or really anything. It’s just before she went powerful and evil, Ming Ye and the viewer could ignore the red flags (which got redder and redder; I mean much as fictional dubcon in 14 was hot, it WAS 100% dubcon/sexual assault; no nice sweet good selfless well-adjusted person does that) but once she got power into her hands and trauma really shoved her further, it became really clear. It’s kind of like Tantai Jin. If he has no status and no power, does it matter in terms of its effect on the world if he would love revenge or is cold or has trauma or w/e? No, of course not because whether he’s a well-adjusted sweetheart or dysfunctional psycho, he has no power to carry out anything, whether it’s to open a puppy shelter or to carry out a wholesale slaughter. But once he gets power, his traumas and quirks become everyone else’s concern and one must deal with them somehow because he makes it everyone’s business. Same here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What. The. Fuck. That is not romantic, this is UGH. Honestly, I am glad MY and SJ found each other because they should not inflict themselves on other partners. It’s kind of amazing that I started out liking them and by now I am all “thanks divine lightning, hurry it up with your barbeque.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He ultimately does not but by then I stopped caring. I am so so so happy we are back to our headcases Tantai Jin and Susu.
The thing is - my ranting does not mean I did not enjoy this portion of the story (unlike in the novel where I skimmed it since I dngaf about it at all.) The acting is great, the visuals are nuts, and the characters, including MY and SJ are completely internally consistent and their actions make total sense for what and who they are - their arcs are logical. I strongly dislike both of them by the end, but that does not mean it was not a well-done story.

Björk - Homogenic Review
I heard Björk’s 3rd album, Homogenic, as part of going through her discography for the first time. I heard the standard version. She’s quickly becoming one of my favorite singers; I love the timbre of her voice, and her passionate style. I guess this is her most famous album? I dunno, but I’m happy to report it’s a banger.
“Hunter” starts the album with a moody combination of spooky, reversed-sounding atmosphere, stuttery drum machine hits, and daunting strings. It sets the tone of the album well, and it’s pretty good stuff. Apparently the lyrics are about her feelings of newfound fame in the music industry at the time. It’s a great beginning to the album – stating that she’ll keep hunting for new sounds no matter what.
“Jóga” is actually the song that introduced me to Björk, when someone sent me it in a DM. But it had been a while since I heard it, and I wasn’t prepared for the fucking epicness this track unleashes. Two minutes in you get the first shit-hits-the-fan moment of the album, where a thick, distorted drum beat and groovy, perfectly-modulated electronic bassline suddenly BURST into the 2nd chorus. The strings are incredible; her vocals are passionate; everything about it is amazing. I think there’s even a polymeter? I dunno, this shit is crazy. The lyrics seem to cover a hefty amount of themes too, including her love of Iceland and how it shaped her.
“Unravel” is a pretty laid back tune with slow, washed-out drums. I love the somber atmosphere and how the drums become distorted, but it’s mostly carried by her gorgeous vocal melodies. The lyrics are also an interesting description of when 2 people leave each other, then reconnect.
“Bachelorette” is another incredibly epic piece, with a large variety of booming percussion, dramatic strings you should always expect from Björk, and even a NASTY piano bassline. At this point, the album really seems like it wants to blow your mind every other song.
Oh, did I say every “other” song? “All Neon Like” is hands-down my favorite track on this album. I’ve never heard anything like it. It begins with possibly one of the most beautiful, ethereal melodies I’ve ever heard, before bringing an extremely interesting hyper-distorted drum beat. Then after 2 minutes you’re greeted with THAT fucking synth. Extremely noisy but not too harsh, playing a rhythm so groovy and quirky I can’t help but dance while smiling like an idiot. It fits SO well with the drum rhythm, too.
“5 years” is a fun-sounding song with a cute synth, playful bassline, and the distorted drums you should expect from this album. It’s very euphoric when the strings come in, and the song is an empowering expression of unrequited love.
“Immature” begins with a sampled vocal and jungle d&b-esque bassline, before delivering yet another show-stopper moment, where the bass gets heavier and it becomes groovy as fuck. What do you expect from this album by this point? I love how the lyrics convey growing past the popular notion that you need someone else to complete you, and she gives one of the sauciest Björk-growls I’ve heard from her in a while. If you know what I’m talking about, you know.
“Alarm Call” has a wonderful mix of awesome hip-hop beats, industrial vibes, and psychedelic synths. It’s a super fun listen, and a joyous expression of nature and love for music.
“Pluto” sounds like the kind of dystopian nightmare Hiroyuki Sawano would make, with ridiculously aggressive synths and drums. I love hearing the Björk-growl with that kind of distortion, but the song really doesn’t do much for me melodically or compositionally. I love the lyrics though; they’re kind of hilarious as well. Seriously, if you’ve never heard this album, at least look up the lyrics for Pluto and get a good laugh.
“All Is Full of Love” ends the standard edition of the album with really beautiful ambience full of reverb. The sounds expand pretty nicely as it goes on.
This album is amazing, and after 3 albums I feel like I now fully understand Björk’s solo work as mostly focused on sound selection and design, and her incredible singing. Her lyrics are always cryptic but fun to analyze, too. The last 2 tracks might not do much for me at this current time, but I was fully on board beforehand, and it’s insane how many flat-out BANGERS this record has. 4.5/5 Talk to me in a few months and it might be a 5

Hi 😊 I really like your posts, especially the ones where you analyse the books 🤩 I have a suggestion: Geralt flirting ❤️ yesterday I found a post (I think it was by darkverrmin, not sure) saying something like: of course Geralt knows how to flirt, he's a 100 years old 🤣 Later someone added the scene between Geralt and Yennefer on Skellige as evidence ("you smell lovely" etc). It got me wondering how it is in the book canon... Maybe you can answer that 😉
Hello dear! Thank you so much, you are too kind. <3 As always, I am apologizing for how long I take to answer asks.
I hope people don't ever take it as an indication that I don't want to answer. I LOVE getting asks. I just put so much time and effort and research into them sometimes I have to leave time aside, reread, have a certain type of energy, etc. But I do get to them. So always send them.
So, Geralt flirting.
One thing I love about very old, mortal, and near immortal characters, is their very human flaws. When an Ancient is awkward, immature, or insecure, I don’t know, it scratches some kind of itch in me.
It says, it’s ok if you don’t have it all figured out (even though you thought you’d be fully formed and mature by the time you reach adulthood) this guy’s been here for centuries, and he’s still a dork.
It says, flaws are not something to grow out of. They are just seasoning.
It says, we are all human and have frailties, every single one of us, no exception. (even non human characters are stories about what it is to be a human) It is comforting, you know?
I used to watch the tv show Angel, and the parts where he and Spike fought like children brought me a lot of joy. Or on Doctor Who when you see this basically immortal almost millenia old failing at creating a catchphrase or being socially awkward, it makes me happy.
What I’m saying is, the only good immortal character is one with weaknesses that you would really think they would have matured past by now. So, I would say that Geralt’s age doesn’t necessarily mean that he is good at flirting.
In fact, the man is OFTEN awkward. Another great character trait is someone who can be drastically, drastically different things in different situations. Geralt is incredibly eloquent. He is terrifying when he wants to be. But then he can get in front of Yen and just be reduced to absolute buffoonery.
So, can Geralt flirt?
Well, first, to be fair, he almost never needs to flirt. Almost every single one of Geralt’s liaisons are initiated by the women. Women are entranced by his noble character, and his slight whiff of emotionally unavailability.
He doesn’t actually do much of anything flirtatious at all in order to get laid. It’s like his weapons are: 1) Be heroic 2) Toss in a teensy bit of gentle snark 3) Open his arms as they fall into them and 4) Unless it’s Yen, and he actually cares, in which case he’ll be fuckn awkward and hem and haw around, sniff her hair, stare at her boobs, call her 'dear friend' and never live it down.
So, I don’t know. Can he flirt? Maybe if people would stop throwing ass at him and make him work for it, he could? But he never seems to have to! And his age certainly doesn’t keep him from being awkward as hell with Yennyboo.
And actually I love him for that.
(thanks for the ask, this was a fun one)

expressing my take on dream is how i finally get cancelled but tbh im ready.
so i just watched the moistcritical video on whatever bullshit happened on twitter regarding him.
i wanna establish that im not exactly a dream fan. i dont watch videos of his or really anyone from that part of youtube. i dont think hes that great of a person necessarily.
also, i want to establish that i am an idiot 18yo boy. ight? im not some kind of expert on this shit. its literally just my take. its an opinion. and im putting it on the internet. as people tend to do.
okay. recap. dream allegedly sent snapchat videos of him moaning to a minor. there is zero proof that the video was from him, and zero proof that it was sent to a minor. then the fight between dream and gumballva. oh my god. guys. god i cant even with this bit. alright alright ill get to it
im gonna completely fuckin disregard the snapchat thing. theres absolutely no proof. innocent until proven guilty, as it goes.
about the fight between dream and gbva. holy shit stop taking sides. both of these men are immature man babies whos fame got to their head. "it was a physical fight!!!!!!" believe it or not, drunk slapfights happen sometimes. just because the fight was between two famous guys doesnt make it any more important or significant.
gbva was referring to himself as Michelangelo. he was saying how dream is "miniscule compared to him" like the worlds most pathetic dick measuring competition. he mentioned his "intellectual stature" guys. my friend told me about how the gumball va TOTALLY BURNED DREAM and DESTROYED HIM so i had high expectations. but no. the guys just stroking his own ego and shittalking some other guy, and people are hype about it because the other guy is dream and OOOOOOO DREAM BAD GUYS.... and because gumball is pretty well loved as a show. he called dream a slur. like on one hand, it is INSANE to me that a famous guy called someone a slur and twitter cheered. on the other hand its actually not that big a deal. yes, slurs and homophobia are a big deal. but let me reiterate that this is literally just two drunk dudes trying to roast each other and failing miserably. a slur isnt going to end the world. like it isnt cool that he said it, he shouldnt have said it, but honestly what the fuck ever. people are being killed in mass rn and this is what we're arguing about and im part of the problem so WAHOO.
and then theres the fact that dream recorded it. guys its not that fucking weird. im sorry to burst your bubble but recording arguments or recording when someone is aggressive towards you isnt abnormal. was it a little bit dramatic and incredibly childish to post it on twitter? yeah!!! duh!!! this is dream we're talking about. dramatic. childish. but the thing is, and hear me out, hes allowed to do that. insane as it may be, humans are allowed to be dramatic and childish. humans are allowed to brag about their "intellectual stature" in a cab after a night out. humans are allowed to be flawed. no, i dont think he was recording it due to feeling unsafe. i do in fact believe he was recording it to start drama. i believe whole heartedly that dream recorded the argument hoping his teenaged fanbase would run to his rescue. and you know what? who gives a shit!! are you actually surprised? are you REALLY? because dream very obviously has something wrong in his head. im not saying that the shit he does is okay because of it. but i want everyone reading this right now to imagine how you would realistically cope if you suddenly became famous during the fucking plague at the ripe ass age of 21 in the span of a month and then spent the next 3 years being either worshipped by children in mass or brutally harassed by literally the entire world. because believe it or not, 21 year olds are immature and are not normally equipped to deal with a situation like that. its entirely possible that dream already had issues, and its also entirely possible that he FORMED issues in the past 3 years due to the intense stress of his situation. dream is fucked up. dream has issues.
but listen to me. as far as we know, dream is not a pedophile or a murderer or a racist or a homophobe or any of that shit. sure, hes awful at babysitting each and every one of his bajillion preteen fans, but thats kinda not his fucking responsibility??? if a kid is going around doing awful shit in the name of some guy, blame the kids parents. its their job to teach their kid how to act online and around other people. and sure, dream is very very likely a narcissist and seems to be incapable of criticism and needs attention constantly or else he keels over like a scared gerbil and dies. hes kind of a shitty fuckin guy!! BUT GUESS. WHAT. so is like 70% of the population!!!! most of us are fucking awful!!
i know i cant change shit, i know id get bodied by even a single dream anti. i just wish people would stop giving him attention, leave him the fuck alone, and let him get therapy or spend a year in the woods or smoke some fucking weed idk.
seeing the reaction people have to literally just some schmuck makes me TERRIFIED of putting myself out there. can we all just accept that everyone is flawed and sometimes good people have shitty takes or do shitty things. if you had the same exposure to the world that dream did, how quickly would YOU get cancelled? im just. im fucking begging you to look at this guy (and other equally underwhelming schmucks) with a critical mind and context to why you may see them the way you do.
im not tagging this shit i dont hate myself that much. i dont mind if no one reads this i just wanna rant. just leave the guy be.

Submission #84
Ok, so hear me out.  We’ve all heard of Amy being jealous of Sally because Sally’s with Sonic—a tired take tbh.  But, we’ve got plenty of evidence in the older Archie comics of Amy supporting and defending their relationship from the public, so I’d like to think she’s actually pretty graceful about it (even it was always under the naïve and presumptuous impression that she’ll still be the one to marry him one day, but what can you do about Archie’s penchant for weird characterizations).
Still, imagine if the primary reason Amy was so envious of Sally was because unlike for Amy herself, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles don’t ever leave Sally behind.  They’ll always slow down for her, and always listen to her (like how it so often used to be in the Archie comics).
I’m sure Team Sonic’s reasoning is founded in something supposedly harmless, along the lines of, “Amy’s more capable, so we don’t need to worry about her.”—which I imagine is a double standard that would hurt Sally as well, were she to become aware of it, but that’s another thing altogether.
The point is, Amy would no doubt interpret this incredibly personally, the issue compounding over the years.  She’s always struggled with the notion that she doesn’t bring anything special to the table of Team Sonic.  She’s faster than Tails and Knuckles, but not Sonic.  She’s smarter than Knuckles and Sonic, but not Tails.  She’s stronger than Sonic and Tails, but not Knuckles.  She’s got plenty of special abilities on her own, but so do the other three, so as someone who struggles with self worth and has trouble seeing beyond her ability to be useful to others, she dismisses almost the entirety of her unique skill set—not even taking into account her proclivity towards proactivism and compassion.  She doesn’t bolster any archetype for the team, so she may as well not be apart of it.  And more often than she’d like to acknowledge, she isn’t.
And the worst part is that she had convinced herself that she was fine with this.  She understood why she got left behind, and was never vocally upset about it, content to always play “catch-up”.  She always gets stronger, and always gets faster, and works tirelessly to expand her well of knowledge and skill sets—all to no real avail.  But it’s okay, because she doesn’t take it personally.  Team Sonic have always had a bad habit of leaving everyone behind in the dust, including her.
But then Amy notices the one exception to the rule, and it’s Sally (for whatever list of plausible reasons there may be or that you may speculate in addition).  It’s honestly kinda heart-breaking for her.
She’ll speculate endlessly about why this is.  Sally’s capable, so Amy never questions her abilities, and instead tries to figure out just why Sally isn’t ever excluded.  Is it because she’s older than Amy?  But Tails is younger than almost everyone, and even if his sheer intellect makes up for it, Amy has to reason that her own academic prowess relative to Sonic and Knuckles can fill the less aggressive gap in age.  Is it because she’s so level-headed and equanimous?  But Knuckles is known to have a temper that surpasses Amy’s fairly often.  Is it because she’s more mature?  But—and and as much as Amy tries to ignore the fact—Sonic is fairly immature and short-sighted himself, with others, Amy included, having to constantly check him and reign in his impatience.
So she erroneously concludes that everyone just likes Sally more.  Something about her personality, her character.  And why wouldn’t they all like Sally?  She’s logical and strong-willed, tactical and a born leader, stern but kind, sweet and pretty—and the list could go on.  Amy wouldn’t even realize that so many great things about Sally are things they have in common.
Amy and Sally are actually pretty good friends in light of all the things they have in common too, so it’s less that Amy dislikes Sally for what she perceives as favoritism in their friend group, so much as Amy dislikes HERSELF for just not being up to snuff.
And Amy feels like she can’t tell anyone without the guilt of it all eating her alive.  Cream is obviously Amy’s closest friend/sibling-figure, and would therefore be the most comfortable option for venting, but Amy acknowledges that Cream is far too young for her to dump her insecurities onto, and therefore just plain refuses to delve into the topic altogether.
That is, until she and Shadow start to grow closer a handful of years into the future.
She’s probably be the type to laugh off her pain and envy, thinking herself immature for being jealous over something that’s probably just petty—but I think Shadow would be genuinely shocked and upset on her behalf.  Because yeah, okay, people can have preferential friends, but combined with the fact that Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles have an apparent history of being exclusionary towards Amy specifically, it all just leaves a bad taste in Shadow’s mouth.  He knows that with Cream being so young and having to devote a fair portion of her life to school and just plain being a kid, Big living his best life relaxing and fishing as someone who’s probably a pacifist outside of absolute necessity, and on-again off-again Team Rose member Blaze being a high responsibility princess from a whole different dimension—Amy doesn’t often have access to a dedicated assembly of Heroes that make up her own, independent team.  So she makes an effort to help people in any way she can on her own, often merging into other teams—or tagging along behind, in the case of Team Sonic apparently.
No matter how big a miscommunication the situation may turn out to be in the end (if it even is one at all), and no matter the fact that Amy would always and inevitably forgive her friends for leaving her out of the crew at times, Shadow would probably endeavor to include Amy in SO many more of Team Dark’s missions—and not just because he has the softest spot in his heart for her.  She’s an incomparably versatile asset to any group she’s apart of, but also so much more, and he desperately wants her to see that and believe in herself just as much as she believes in him (I know and love how many times you’ve pointed this out in headcanons).
Ngl tho, I just kinda love the idea of the entirety of Team Dark being Amy’s hype man.  It’s what she deserves.  I like to think that there’ll be a period in the future where Cream goes through her formative years unburdened by continuous fighting, Big gets to retire from warfare at the ripe old age of mid-20-something, and Blaze can actually make more time to rule her Kingdom—which does sadly leave Amy without a proper team most of the time.  But she’s an optimist!  She’s a hero through and through, so she’d always find a way to help others.  If Team Sonic doesn’t step up their game, then Team Dark will just have to adopt her and absolutely dominate the hero scene!
((Can I confess something? I actually really like the way Archie handled it. Wanting Sonic to be happy above all else while still never doubting that she’s his endgame is great for her character IMO. Very fitting, and it averts the constant-jealousy alternative. Let her be hopeful, compassionate, and friendly with her “competition!” I think it’s a very clever way around the issue, and it gives us great scenes like this one:
Tumblr media
That aside, I really like your analysis of the underlying problem. I hadn’t thought about it too much before because I love Sonally so much, but yeah, they really don’t leave Sally behind. And Amy sees it, too.
Tumblr media
Literally.
Even if they left Amy behind because she’s more “capable,” I don’t think they’d tell her that unprompted, and even if she pressed them on it, the “capable” explanation wouldn’t jive with their constant devaluation of her potential input. This bothered me whenever I played SA2 as a kid, and it only got worse once I found out she held her own and had her own role to play in SA1. She already proved herself as a vital part of the team. Why did they drag her backwards like that? I think the writers intentionally wrote her as kind of annoying in SA2 so it’d be more “understandable” that they’d leave her behind, but as someone who was frequently ghosted and ignored for being “annoying” growing up, it just didn’t work for me.
Thing is, she’s not even faster than Tails in most iterations. He keeps pace with Sonic, but she has to catch up with him. Hedgehogs are naturally fast; her description in Sonic Chronicles: the Dark Brotherhood states that members of her species have “innate hedgehog speed,” but she doesn’t stack up to Sonic or Shadow in that regard–or even Blaze or Tails–so if you extrapolate too far, that could even make her feel worse, especially because she isn’t spiky like other hedgehogs are, either. I sometimes wonder if she feels insecure about that.
But that’s all just angsty overanalysis.
It’s easy to feel insecure when it feels like you don’t have a specialty. One of my best headcanons (in my opinion) discusses that very dilemma, and Shadow has to reassure her. Her abilities, while powerful, are mostly very subtle and easy to miss. Vague psychic powers? She barely uses them. Invisibility? It showed up exactly once in an erased timeline. Hammerspace? It’s only pointed out in canon one time. Reforming villains? I don’t think she sees herself as special for being able to do that. She’s never been arrogant or even mentioned it. At first glance, she just seems like an ordinary girl next to her friends, just like Sally–but they wait for her. Not for Amy.
What a lot of people fail to see is that appearing ordinary is a superpower in and of itself. It makes for a great leader. Someone like Sonic is larger than life, but the average citizen will see Amy Rose, just a girl with a hammer and a positive attitude, and think, “If she can do it, why can’t I?” Sonic will never have that. Sally and Amy are similar, and despite what many in the fandom think, that’s not a bad thing. It’s just that leadership probably wouldn’t feel like a big deal to her. She wasn’t full of herself when she led Team Rose, she just saw herself as a girl on an adventure with her friends who gave a couple pep talks. Someone had to do it. I doubt it would even occur to her that that was impressive. The youngest team leader with the least experienced partners got them to their destination faster than anyone else? Do you think she cared about that at the time? I don’t.
Amy is remarkably resilient and optimistic, but chasing constantly is exhausting. Chasing and never catching up will burn anyone out, and I don’t think she’ll be immune to that forever. I mean that in multiple ways. She deserves people (especially one person) who won’t do that to her.
I agree with your assertion that Amy would turn her negative feelings inward rather than being bitter toward Sally. She’s not the type to blame others, particularly these days. And Sonic’s romantic history with Sally really would lend credence to her theory that he likes Sally better, and while Sonic is a very fair guy, there may still be some truth to it.
I love the idea of Shadow’s temper flaring up in the wake of Amy being mistreated. In fact, I wonder if this submission was at least partly inspired by my recent headcanon about her weighted bracelets, as that was a prominent theme there. I like seeing Shadow’s temper used for good. He’d validate her feelings, letting her know that yes, it is fucked up that she’s treated that way. There’s nothing like having someone who’s as passionate as you are stepping up to your level, letting you know you really aren’t crazy and it truly isn’t fair. Amy needs someone like Shadow by her side. She just does. If not now, then later for sure.
I can imagine Shadow taking her under his wing for missions at first because he thinks she deserves a place on a team so she can do good like she always wants to, but then he’s introduced to her ridiculous skillset, and he’s like, “Oh, shit, she’s got better mobility than I do...and she double-jumps...and summons objects out of thin air...and stops time...she turns invisible...she’s strong as hell–how the fuck do they ever lose her in the first place?!” And then once he actually helps her train and sees her rapid self-improvement, he’s somehow both smitten and threatened at how quickly her speed and chaos powers approach his level. It starts with something like this:
Tumblr media
And before long, he winds up like this:
Tumblr media
Amy being a part of Team Dark isn’t just popular for the sake of shadamy. It’s a legitimately good idea that I think would be great to explore if they ever aged up these characters, though I know Sega won’t go there.
Thanks for the submission!))

PINNED POST
who am i?
someone who’s been sewing since being voluntold into the puppet factory at age 7. (yes i did grow up in a circus.) a legal adult for decades now but immature enough to get away with calling myself a boy until i die. trans man who dresses like an off duty drag queen. undiagnosed autistic with sensory intolerance for synthetic fibers. proud of my weight gain and not shy to block fatphobic bigots. too arthritic to give a shit about typos or capitalizing. former professional alterations-er. white usamerican who believes strongly in class solidarity across all lines. faggot.
what will you find here?
ive never been good at keeping my tumblr self organized but i’m really going to try to keep this one focused. at first i’ll be posting project round ups and picture tutorials as i work through the immense backlog of my stash, but i’d like to answer questions and help folks troubleshoot their own sewing, fitting, and mending problems. theoretically i’d like to do video tutorials but i dont have the time or equipment. certainly some anti-oppression based political analysis and references to the leather community will filter through, and probably some garden and pet pictures. i’m going to be coaching my life and business partner through making their first clothes pretty soon here so that will be posted in some form as well. tips for adapting clothes for sensory issues and physical mobility based disabilities. me fixating on pattern matching to a truly asinine degree. all black projects covered in cat and dog hair that are really hard to photograph well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
what do i make?
ive made everything from thirty foot puppet costumes to these-jncos-arent-wide-enough industrial high fashion jeans to back support corsets and more but currently my own projects are all about providing me with a wardrobe that a) keeps me warm b) doesnt trigger any sensory issues c) makes me look like hot shit. you could call what i’m working on a capsule wardrobe but really i’d just call myself broke. my idea of looking like hot shit involves seamlessly blending the fashions of a sixty year old redneck who goes to town twice a year, and the hardest fem at goth night.
what am i interested in?
i really like historical fashion, especially viking and pre-viking era scandinavian, medieval british isles, and irish/scottish/english/american from about 1800-1960. (NOT saying that other places dont have incredible clothes and fashion traditions, but sewing is pretty much the backbone of my ancestor work—not nec. reverence bc not all of my ancestors deserve it frankly (though some do) but connection and understanding—so i focus my research and construction where my own ancestors were (if you call yourself folkish you can fuck off and die in a dumpster fire right now and if you dont, dont bother googling they dont deserve your attention)). i often take historical undergarments and adapt them for contemporary outerwear, or blend methods of fit or construction that were traditionally used exclusively for either mens or womens fashion in a single garment. somehow i ended up specializing in flattening out princess seams.
perks
follow me and maybe i’ll get someone to video me using the treadle machine which has belonged to my great grandma, my gay great uncle, my gay great uncle’s widower, my mom, and myself

“you’re really into anti-oppression, why aren’t you adding image descriptions?”
a couple reasons. as i mentioned i have a host of disabilities (physical and otherwise). my dayjob involves a lot of computer work, sewing is really hard on my hands and body, i cant always look at screen for very long, and if i made myself wait to post until i could do image descriptions, i would never post at all. i don’t think requiring disabled folks to do things they can’t is the best approach to radical hospitality. if anyone feels moved to add image descriptions to anything i do, i will reblog their post with the tag ‘image descriptions added.’ my main aim in starting this blog is to share my knowledge with trans/disabled folks and other people that experience gender dysphoria, body dysmorphia, sensory issues, or physical difficulties getting clothes on and off without pain. the typed writeup that will accompany each picture tutorial is my best attempt at sharing my knowledge and processes with anyone who uses a screen reader

[SPOILERS FOR THE QUARRY]
I’ve seen a lot of people upset that The Quarry’s ending was a little rushed and that none of the romantic character development panned out anywhere. Specifically that Ryan kind of rejects Dylan/Kaitlyn and that the Emma/Jacob plot is never resolved. And I have some thoughts.
1. Ryan is no less queer just because he chases after a woman. Is it WEIRD that Laura kind of flirts with Ryan and the game hints at this being the end game ship? Yes. It is. And it’s not good writing. But excluding that, Ryan going after a woman does not negate his previous feelings for Dylan. Or Kaitlyn. When it comes to AMAB people, so many people FROM THE LGBTQ+ want to automatically assign “gay” and leave no room for any other labels. Ryan can be interested in a woman and still be queer. He could be bisexual, pansexual, or anything else. It’s also not queer baiting. He doesn’t end up with anybody in the end, being single ≠ not gay. Stop that. (Before someone attacks me, I’m not saying “don’t ship Ryan/Dylan”. Read my actual post. I ship Ryan/Dylan).
2. The Jacob/Emma ordeal is bad writing. I’ll give you that. But it’s also realistic. Yes, we as the audience would have LOVED to see actual pay off in the end. Be it talking about their relationship or fighting or the revelation that Jacob sabotaged the car. That would’ve been great for US. But realistically, in this situation as a bunch of 18 year olds, that probably would never happen. They’re kids. They’re immature and young. And also their friends are being murdered. Jacob is separated from the group 99% of the time. He and Emma are both focused on surviving. Talking about feelings can wait.
3. Yeah I can’t defend the Abi/Nick thing. Is it realistic that Nick is never reunited with the group? Yes. Is it a shitty pay off and poor writing? Also yes. And unlike Jacob and Emma, it feels like the writers wanted you to get them together and then halfway through forgot about that whole subplot. Idk. I agree with the criticisms on this end.
4. It’s lowkey funny and kind of a power move that Supermassive Games set up these romance paths (Emma/Jacob, Abi/Nick, Dylan/Ryan/Kaitlyn) and then when the plot gets moving, separated them all. To the point that none of them see each other again after a specific point. Emma and Jacob never reunite, Abi and Nick never reunite. Dylan and Kaitlyn become a platonic power duo. And Ryan goes off on his own. Not only is that incredibly funny, but it’s also realistic. Romance isn’t the goal here. Surviving is. Is it poor writing? Depends, I’d argue yes and no. Does it leave the audience unsatisfied? Definitely. But I think we need to recognize why the writers intentionally split up almost every romantic pair (besides Laura and Max. But even that isn’t really a “good” ending).
It’s silly people are already arguing about this. (The irony is not lost that I say this and then make a whole post about it. I know, I’m part of the problem). Can’t we just enjoy the game?
