today i volunteered at a historic home gut rehab the local habitat for humanity is doing and got to scooch around in the crawlspace and cut bits of wood and use a nailgun. at one point the Head Guy asked if i knew how to use a table saw and i said "yes but not with confidence" and actually? i do know how to use a table saw with confidence. but confidence that the table saw hates its users and thirsts for blood

Does anyone consider why and when Ares resorts to violence?

You can't say Ares is "bad" for killing people in war. It's fucking war, where people have to kill each other as duties. If human keeps creating wars, Ares will still have a job to do.

Ares fought against Otus and Ephialtes, it's to defend Olympus. These two giants are trying to kidnap Artemis and Hera. Should he stand aside and let his sister and mother get in danger?

Ares killed Halirrhothius and was put on trial for it? The dude just assaulted his daughter, Alcippe! Of course, Ares has to defend/avenge her!

Ares also rushes down the Trojan War to avenge his dead son Ascalaphus, and you call him irrational. And I get that Ares' other son, Kyknos, was a dick and got what he deserved (Heracles killed him), but can you blame the war god for getting furious?

(When Apollo killed a Cyclops as retribution for Asclepius's death - who resurrected the dead and defied the natural order, he's seen as a grieving father. I don't hate Apollo, but the double standard makes me mad.)

People do love reading the myths, seeing Ares getting into fights, and concluding that he's a mindlessly violent god without ever thinking of the context.

For how much Machete is described by others as off-putting, he really is a beautiful dog. Does Vasco ever tell him so? That his eyes make him look earnest, his fur the most comforting shade of white like cream, the way his ears catch light like stained glass? If someone doesn't tell him so, he'd forever think he was ugliest duckling

I think Vasco definitely tries, sincerely and often, but Machete is very reluctant to accept compliments and positive feedback. Especially if it's about something as personal and innate as his looks.

#he quietly spends a lot of time and effort trying to make himself look his best so appearances aren't a trivial thing for him #he's always very clean and neat and presentable #except on those occasions when he's soaked in blood but that's totally besides the point #white fur is kind of high maintenance any tiny bit of dirt or staining becomes an eyesore and if it dries it may be hard to remove #he bathes very frequently way more than average considering the time period #some of the outfits he wears are worth more than the combined lifetime earnings of like six generations of his family #silk was outrageously expensive and the brightest red dye came from pulverized cochineal insects that had to be imported from America #which had been colonized less than a century ago so those tiny little cactus bugs were really troublesome to get and the demand was huge #he doesn't quite have the nerve to wear perfume despite it's widespread popularity at the time #but he makes sure the smell of frankincense burned during church services sticks to his fur and clothes #in general when you spend your entire life around strict emotionally congested highly religious men #you might not end up developing a very healthy self-esteem or body image #once you've internalized that sense of inferiority it's hard to unlearn it #he's so thirsty for approval and praise but when he receives some he immediately gets uncomfortable and distrustful and vaguely angry #he absolutely struggles to compliment people back as well at least on any meaningful and personal level so there's that #answered #anonymous #Machete

as we know, angel likes david’s hands me too bestie, which inspired some thoughts i would love to share with you all, y’know, spread the brain rot around.

firstly, his hands are big; wide palms and thick fingers, prominent veins and trimmed nails, skin warm and calloused from years of work and roughhousing. no matter what size difference you headcanon these two to have, his hands overwhelm theirs, be it by a little or by a lot. and he knows how to use his hands in many different ways; cutting, grabbing, tying, manipulating, holding, caressing, on and on.

secondly, david is well aware of how much angel likes his hands; both because they’ve expressed as such before many times over during various…occasions, and because he’s noticed. not that it isn’t very easy to pick up on given how unashamedly they stare any and every possible chance they can.

when he works out the tension in the muscles of his wrists, cracking his knuckles one by one. when he feeds his belt through the loops of his jeans, fastening the buckle with smooth muscle memory. when he drives and spins the wheel with his palm, other hand grabbing the back of their seat as he looks over his shoulder.

when he needs a way to quiet them, shoving his fingers past their teeth or clamping his hand fully over their mouth. when he slides them under their thighs, positioning their legs over his shoulders or locked around his waist. when he cradles their jaw in his palm, guiding their pretty, mischievous eyes to properly meet his.

…ahem, thirdly! david himself enjoys having his hands on angel. one of his favorite ways is casually resting a hand on their throat. not necessarily choking them ( not always, at least ), but simply to have it there. he enjoys the small connection and comfort it brings, even if he’s far too stubborn to admit it. it’s similar to when they wordlessly take one of his hands and trace the deep lines in his palms, slip their fingers between his, press a kiss to each individual knuckle.

but, as you can guess, it isn’t always so innocent. after all, what is angel if not a brat — his brat, one he knows how to tame just as they know how to test him.

with his hand wrapped around their throat, he’ll stroke the line of their jaw, maybe the sides of their neck, or along their collarbones. the lightness of his touch tickles slightly yet makes their heart pound that little bit quicker. and he knows it; he can feel their pulse racing against his fingertips, can feel them swallow against his palm. the way the mood shifts with a little more pressure when he squeezes a little bit tighter. they can hear the grin in his voice as it drops into a low growl. “you gonna behave for me now…angel?”
