I always think it's a little surprising, irritating, endearing, something when big, tough men find solace in being gentle with their daughters.

There's reason to do tough things with them, too, to make sure they grow up strong and independent, but I think of a man like Simon "Ghost" Riley, who spent a huge percentage of his life being beaten down consistently by almost all the men who were around him.

And sure, he trusts the men in his task force with his life now, no question about it, but... I think the sudden calm he experiences when he starts to raise a daughter is beyond strange for him, but also weirdly... healing, too. Enjoyable.

That's not to say he doesn't, and hasn't, enjoyed the boyish things in life, the watching sports, the playing in the dirt, the pretending to hold guns part of growing up... but he finds himself sitting through your daughter's ballet class, overwhelmed by the calm that surrounds him, actually able to focus on the intensity of her pliers, her releves, the way her pink skirt ripples when she leaps into a sauter.

It's a new realization, a new kind of war (between him and learning how to be a parent), but it's one that doesn't revolve around the consistent anxiety that warps his stomach when he watches boys, little or not, teeter the line between roughhousing and fighting, picking on one another for shedding accidental tears that, really, cause no harm.

With your daughter, he's set in charge of watching her play with her friends and finds there is no lump in his stomach when she giggles with them, no dark possibility drifting in the back of his mind that she'll reach out and get her arm broken by someone she trusts--the fights she fights with her peers all between the characters they play and not between their fists, their games of laughter and drama and screaming but not of raging violence.

There's people who ask him, people who joke, wouldn't a man like him prefer a son? He must've been so disappointed... Yet, Simon still has yet to think of the best way to tell them that he honestly enjoys having a daughter a little bit more, that she runs to him and not for a second is he afraid she's hiding a snake up her sleeve, because she's only ever greeted him with flowers.

Other dream detail - I've found it kind of odd that the Lion says that Marcille will make a wonderful dungeon bc once he actually gets ahold of her he goes the complete opposite way, saying he needs Laios to be in charge of the dungeon bc she isn't good enough

Which could just be like a "the Lion thought she'd be good at this but actually she isn't," but I also wonder if it's in part because the Lion didn't put her in that role in the dream

Maybe Laios did! Which would mean his the Laios'-subconscious-building-blocks of this scenario would probably include Falin being alive and whole, people living alongside and eating monsters, orcs living comfortably with other humans, and Marcille helping him make it all work.

Which means it ALSO might be another instance of Laios accidentally throwing her in the path of the Lion (like with the nightmares chapter), which... oof

Was the design and stuff for Wheeljack based on the IDW comic sparkeaters? Because I've been thinking abt this for ages and it seems so-

It's also made me think abt another character- Soundwave- like he has a visor (that's possibly over his face) and he has tentacles- like it could be very easy for him to be one as well-

Ok so I just went to the IDW TFWiki page for sparkeaters and

WHAT? WHAT. WHAT?? WHAT???

So I have never read IDW and the only information I have about it is what I’ve absorbed from my TF mutuals. I knew sparkeaters were some kind of monster BUT I NEVER KNEW WHAT THEY LOOKED LIKE?? WHAT?

First of all that’s really creepy looking and secondly THEY LOOK ALMOST EXACTLY LIKE HOW I IMAGINE EX!WHEELJACK DOES. DOWN TO THE KNIFE TENTACLES AND EVERYTHING. HOW?? I’VE NEVER SEEN THESE THINGS IN MY LIFE I’VE ONLY VAGUELY HEARD OF THEM

So to properly answer your question, no, Ex!Wheeljack’s design is not based on sparkeaters, it’s just a really weird coincidence (and frankly I kinda wish I had because these things look cool lmao). His design was actually based off the first plotline I had for Horror Show before I scrapped it. Shockwave was originally going to try to create synthetic energon but since he has even less information than Ratchet does in canon, it doesn’t go well. Naturally he decides to go big or go home, mixes it with Dark Energon, and injects it into Wheeljack. But that felt too much like copying canon and a virus seemed more like Shockwave’s style anyway so I changed it. You can still kinda see the original plot in his design because I just started by basing it off of the Terrorcons from Thirst and then I went “what if he had stabby tentacles too wouldn’t that be fucked up”

And YEAH. I think it was the Art of Prime that mentioned Soundwave was deliberately designed to seem alien even when compared to the other Cybertronians? I’m not sure when sparkeaters were introduced/if Prime was out by then but Soundwave’s design, especially when compared side by side with sparkeaters, is certainly a CHOICE. When you've been in the fandom for a super long time sometimes it's hard to remember what stuff is in canon and what isn't. Like sometimes I forget how VAGUE L's background really was in the manga initially. We weren't ever even told in the manga if he was actually an orphan or raised by Watari from childhood on (that was mostly just implied by the existence of Wammy's and then fleshed out more in things like the anime and the one-shots that came later on). Going by the manga alone Watari honestly could've also been just some guy that L hired once he was already an adult

#and i know i can be a stickler for canon a lot #but sometimes i remember this and think it's actually cool when i see people who are newer to it come up with other ideas and theories #that could be just as plausible but just havent been widely thought of or agreed upon by the fandom or authors as the truth #also im not trying to offend by saying this to anybody attached to that backstory i just think its fun to realize #there are many potential possibilities for plausible backstories for L #one of my fave writers in the fandom would often change up the characters like L and B's backstories frequently #between one fic and the next #and i always enjoyed and admired seeing how all the different backstories could still seem plausible and right #l lawliet #watari #p
