"you never stop," dorcas says. it's quiet and marlene doesn't stop painting. she can't. "you live your life in constant motion, marlene, you don't take a break."

"i'm okay," she whispers back, turning to dorcas. and she has bags under her eyes and tears ready to fall. her hair is messy and she looks so tired and broken. "i'm okay, dorcas."

"you need to stop," dorcas says. "remus says he hasn't seen you in ages. you haven't slept in two days-"

"i'm fine!" marlene says with sudden anger. she pulls away from dorcas, tucking her paint brush into her hair. "you don't understand, i just can't stop. it's not that easy." dorcas reaches put and grabs onto marlene's hands.

"marlene. i love you so much. so much. but you look like hell." she sets her hands on marlene's face and marlene leans into the touch, hands coming up to hold dorcas' wrists in place. dorcas runs her thumb over marlene's bottom lip.

"i'm sorry." and it hurts. "i'm sorry, cassie. i don't like being like this. i want to be normal." it's all she's ever wanted. "i want to be normal for you."

Thinking about Jade/Ari in In the Mirror…

Jade has a way of just somehow lowkey becoming your girlfriend even if you didn’t really want that. Not in a dubcon way, it just happens!

It happens to Delta, at first through fake dating and then through like, horny convenience and habit, and then they genuinely care about each other, somehow they’re just functionally a couple for most of the story. (Honestly they’re more functional of a couple than when pre-ressurrection Delta was passionately obsessively in love with her).

And that’s sort of what happens with Ari too — Jade is like wow she’s cute, too bad she’s straight, nbd. I’ll just be a tiny bit horny when she cleans my wounds but otherwise what great friend material! We’ll stargaze and shit talk.

But then throughout the whole mountain sequence, they get very very close, and by the end of it, even though they’re no longer required to cuddle for warmth or hold hands for safety, they just do. They continue sleeping in the same bed because it feels safer. Also they still kiss sometimes, usually when Jade starts it, and it’s just how things are. They love each other and they’re very physically affectionate!

Like, in Conviction theres literally 0 doubt that Ari’s straight. It will never come up, unless Trystan tries to make a joke out of it. She doesn’t go making out with girls or having threesomes or any of that!

She’s still straight in In The Mirror except… well… things happen! If anything, she comes out of all of it with a solid sense of her own sexuality because she’s explored outside of it. She has a threesome with a girl and a nonbinary person and is like okay that was nice, I don’t really want to do it again, my ideal sex is actually still just me and one big buff cis guy.

(Except when she meets the big buff dude of her dreams, he at first 100% thinks she’s a lesbian and/or taken™️. Oops.)

She’s not sexually attracted to Jade, and Jade IS sexually attracted to her, but there’s no romantic pining. And frankly they wouldn’t be a good match as a couple even if the attraction did line up right.

Just gals being pals. Queerplatonically.

sketch page I started at the end of Infinity Train Book 3 and beginning of Book 4. Kez correctly pointed out that Ryan and Min-Gi had this mutual condescension going on... knowing each other in and out, jealous of each other’s best traits, smug over the other’s shortcomings... yet, they both love each other. whether platonically or romantically, they wanted to (and did!!) stay together and create music together. :”)

hold up im reading more about the lionfish thing and this one island in Honduras has had such a huge problem with lionfish that the measures they have taken include

• getting special exemption from the Honduran government to allow divers access to harpoons and spears which are otherwise illegal in fishing

• public campaign to teach people how to prepare and eat lionfish (apparently they are very tasty once the poisonous spines are removed) (but watch out)

• holding lionfish combination hunting competition and cookout (reportedly they killed and cooked 1,700 in a day) (someone killed 60 of them with a rubber band spear gun???)

• most recently and apparently out of desperation, the divers in charge of culling the lionfish in the Roatan Marine Park just started. feeding the lionfish they killed to sharks. bc what else are you gonna do with it

• the sharks don’t seem to notice or be affected by the poison and begin hanging out with the divers

• the sharks then were seen hunting and killing the lionfish on their own

like this is nuts to me sorry. the sharks just had to be shown “hey this is food, did you know?? you can eat these!! here try one!!” we are possibly altering an entire foodchain bc we like feeding the big ocean wolves
