The idea of only liking media that shows perfect morals and characters who make perfect decision will never appeal to me because i just don't find it interesting to see everything go how it should. Show me a guy who thinks he's doing the right thing, but us - the audience - can see he's going to fuck something up massively or that he just fell too deep into whatever negative emotion he's feeling that he doesn't realise his decision is Bad.

#like stories where good fights evil and good makes no morally grey decisions and in the end they defeat evil #they can be good and fun stories esp for escapism #but... they just don't appeal to me. i like following the inner workings of villains or morally grey characters and i like seeing #the various ways in which a character would excuse their behaviour and decisions to themselves (which is why cartoonish villains are lame #to me as well - evil for the sake of evil - altho the ''he was bullied as a child :('' type thing is annoying too) #and like they don't even have to be evil maybe they're just Wrong you know? #this is about Eichi . by the way. he's not evil but he thought he was doing the right thing (and i mean in a way...) #but his way of doing it was machiavellist and uh well! he brought about Good Changes but at such a steep cost #and how did he excuse it to himself? LOVE. that's such good characterisation i love it

bullock ships it know whats up. meanwhile, gordon is like 🤷‍♂️ 'idk, they look like sworn enemies to me'. so what if batman apprehends him very weirdly.

(one of very lovely an’ endearing btas crane’s features for me, always gonna be how he’s a complete twerp compared to his comic counterparts. he’s not only hella scrawny, but he’s also pretty short too.

comic crane build like a pencil compared to bruce, but btas jon is this, but a small version. a real gremlin, where in the comics, he's a goblin.

him being smaller have it's +. for one, he's easier to throw around an’ manhandle. or in this case, i kinda just thought ‘hey, bruce will have no problem to just place him in his laps’. jonathan is cuddly sized for the bat. gotta abuse this advantage to the max. he can catch him this way, or can hold him too… 

an’ look at that, it might lead to one of those few *rare, very rare* times, when jon will attempt to be comforting. he sucks at this, but he does show a shine of sympathy, if he's in the mood for that. but yeah, he would only do it, when batman is all sad an’ down. if he was scared, it’s another story. 

depressed bat makes crane feel some sort of way he hates. he won’t dare to call it anything, but he would rather them do smth less…..this. being held is nice tho. so he tolerates it, telling himself that it's fine just this one time. but then, casually tolerates *basks in* it every damn time from that point on, while using the same excuse… 

he can be regal like that lol.

i always loved, when the bat tried to catch the scarecrow for a second time in ‘nothing to fear’, an’ jon talks to him in an odd manner. almost like a teacher would speak with a student. bruce’s slightly shameful an’ vulnerable expression is everything in that scene, esp when jon stands on the upper row of stairs looking at him. the tides shift later on, naturally. but even as a kid, it was fun to see batman being kinda humbled by some short, weird guy in a potato sack. 

like, jon is so funnily rude an’ ‘argh’ through the whole ep, it’s hard not to cherish, that batman had to put up with it. the way jonathan abused his henchmen is also smth else. he literally re-broke the dude's nose, while calling him names lol. i just wish, that besides ‘lock up’, we had managed to see other sides of him, which clearly existed. love him being a rude ass almost all the time too tho, bc it suits him. an’ it’s a fun difference compared to comic crane, whose spitefulness is usually more emotionally loaded an’ childish. btas crane feels like a proper antisocial sociopath, than anythin’. but like any good sociopath, he has that one person, who he fancy *even if in a strange fashion*. so, batman has a chance to see it all, once he gets past the cold shoulder phase. 

in their case *btas universe*, i picture that jon’s wary ‘get out of my way’ fashion in which he deals with bruce, would essentially build up into proper obsession, where terrifying him is less of a curious experiment an’ method of eliminating him, but also like….he legit wanna know what batman fears. what he sees. how jon affects him an' if it affects his every-day life. fights with him getting more personal an' more crucial.

from that bit, i was wondering what jonathan might have thought about times, when batman hung out with justice league. an’ if there was a villain, who he would feel envious of. an’ idk, doctor destiny came to mind. he’s not like fear-themed villain even per say, but he can control dreams, which is scary in itself. so jon *naturally for him* assuming that dr. destiny went after batman’s fears an’ gave him nightmares. which would instantly make him possessive an’ jealous lol. it’s his an’ bat’s thing! it fully escapes crane, that batman…doesn't ever prefer whatever villain he's fighting. not in way, where he thinks that he bonds with them over being tormented lol. i mean, he kinda does it with jonathan to a degree, but he'd rather they did it in more normal way.

regardless, bruce will have to tell him, that nope, like dr. destiny totally sucks compared to the scarecrow. mostly bc if he won’t, jon might make so, that dr. destiny won’t breathe air ever again lol.)

The video editing may have set a new standard in my& eyes for how good Minecraft videos can be, and for many Ivory was an introduction into the wonderful and fun scene of Minecraft prison escapes! And let's not forget the absolutely gorgeous skin that I& still foam at the mouth every time about-

Told through the eyes of pets around the neighborhood, "Unleashed!" is a tail—woof, I mean tale—about dogs that's secretly about people, and what happens to all of us when it's time to cross the Rainbow Bridge. Like all good stories, this one starts with a smell...

Vibe: Spooky slice-of-life. Hygge horror. Equal measures silly and poignant—or at least that's the goal!

Atlas of Dreams

This project is inspired by almost 2 decades worth of dreams and meditations. It has taken many forms over the years. Originally, I wanted it to be "Narnia" for an older audience, but the story has made it pretty clear that that's not what IT wants to be, so... more exploration needed, I guess

What Norse myth books have you read already? I need new recs x

I don't think any of these are particularly new. Trying to make a list of all I've read. And granted, my attention span has gotten worse over the years.

The first book featuring the norse pantheon in any form I read was Neil Gaiman's "American Gods".

There's Diana Wynne Jones' "Eight Days of Luke" which served as inspiration for "American Gods", according to Neil Gaiman. Children's book.

There's also "Odd and the Frost Giants" by Neil Gaiman and his "Norse Mythology" retelling. Children's book.

I LOVED Louie Stowell's Loki: A Bad God's Guide to Being Good, if you have children or trouble getting through books, get this! It's hilarious and smart. I enjoyed it as an adult. Diary of a Wimpy Kid meets Norse mythology.

I enjoyed the first two books by Joanne Harris as a teen, "Runemarks" and "Runelight." The first two (esp. the first) are fun and I love the Bart Simpson-esque portrayal of Loki. Unfortunately, the quality of later books focusing on Loki is terrible.

I unfortunately read Joanne Harris' "The Testament of Loki", first chapter is interesting, but he's unwillingly sharing a body with an annoying teen girl, and the way Harris deals with eating disorders is really bad. It's awful. Don't recommend.

I think Lyra Wolf's The Nine Worlds rising series are an easy read. I think she has a great comedic voice and the books are worth reading just for that, and I like the toxic Odin/Loki relationship. I do have complaints about them, such as the anachronistic language (e.g. Loki knowing what a Chihuahua is), and that Sigyn doesn't have flaws other than caring too much for her no-good brother. She also has the women are either saints or evil witches dichotomy going on in terms of portrayals of goddesses. I think the stakes are good in these books so that you keep reading them.

I enjoyed Cat Rector's "The Goddess of Nothing at All" A LOT. While it doesn't have my ideal morally gray portrayal of Sigyn yet, it did make Sigyn more complex than others have. I also like this book mainly because I am a sadist and I love whump and there's a lot of suffering on it. It's so sad you won't be laughing at the myth!Loki memes. I would avoid this book if you don't like whump. I do have criticisms about it, such as her Loki was a bit too nice for my taste and could have been worse (making him justified for cutting Sif's hair feels forced; he can still be a loveable and tragic asshole, you know?). But my tragedy-loving self loves this!

I was looking forward to Genevieve Gornichec's "The Witch's Heart", it has a cute start of Loki giving Angrboda her burnt heart, but she criminally made Angrboda and Loki boring as fuck. Angrboda conveniently doesn't remember anything and just fumbles her way inside a cave for a large portion of the book. And she is the POV we're following. WE ARE STUCK IN A CAVE SHE WON'T LEAVE. Loki's portrayal in this is one of the most cisheteronormative I've seen yet, and it's surprising the author managed this in a story where Loki is impregnated by a horse and wears a dress (he impatiently yanks off because he felt emasculated). The author thinks having a lean build and no beard=queer. Loki only shows interest in women and feels emasculated while wearing a dress. I also happen to hate Skadi and her weird castration fetish in this book. Bitch wouldn't shut up about it. The good thing about this book is that there's no anachronisms, and I liked Hel's portrayal.

So confession, I had Kindle Unlimited trial briefly, and I read a bunch of Loki books, such as Lyra Wolf's.

I think(?) I read A.B. Frost's "Father of Monsters". It was quite short, but has nice illustrations, and Loki's endearing, even if a little shit. That both takes one for the team and also endangers the team.

I read (partially) some book about Loki escaping his punishment early and rejoining the Aesir, but it was criminally boring (it never described how Loki got out of situations and the prose was incredibly VAGUE) and seemed geared towards Norse pagans(Which I AM NOT). Had a spiritual conflict-avoiding vibe. It was called "Loki" but forgot the author's name and I accessed for free by Kindle Unlimited. I also didn't like that it referred to cops as "Tyr's warriors". FUCK COPS.

I have not finished reading Mike Vasich's "Loki". I think the man thinks MCU Loki is accurate to Norse mythology, because that's the only Loki I could picture (and he was adopted by Odin). And man spent way too long describing sensing "power levels" that I ended up getting bored and stopped reading. I've also seen some amusing excerpt from another of his books I have not read. But, if you're an author, don't spend a lot of time describing power levels, FFS! You'll bore the fuck out of your readers.

AA this is the last fic writer ask question fr :o again it took me a while to get to all of them pfft but i appreciate them a lot!! this question especially is really sweet wkdndn but yes!! and hope anyone reading my answers to these questions found it interesting at least pfft

hmm…. compliment….. im a MAJOR stickler for detail :O i literally cant turn my brain off i have to get EVERY detail i can right whenever possible wjdnd. not that im always right bc im very much not but i try very hard to be!! and i absolutely adore trying to put a lot of detail and nuance into things in my work esp since i focus on characters mental thought process so much hah. i try very hard to do a lot (or at least i consider it a lot widjdj) of research :o for example i wanted to write astrea fic so i devoured every heinkel and reinhard related side story possible and now they give me intense brainrot. cries. since i write a lot of character study i HAVE to look at everything possible before i finish a fic or ill cry inside if i miss one (1) detail i couldve taken into account hah. so i do think im a hard working writer :o !! analyzing things for fun especially when i admire a work of fiction runs in my blood wjdnd it just Happens. i try my best!!

as for um. that one crack treated seriously gluttony if fic i did once (selfcest…). is it accurate to who gluttonybaru is as a character? no in the sense that hes written purposefully in that fic to be like. pushed to his Most Extreme. but also i did try to at least be kind of accurate bc. i combed through SO MUCH of arc 6 and the gluttony if to write him fr 😭😭 there was TOO MUCH analysis in that fic thats why its got a novel length wordcount HAH. hes always had a hate love relationship with “natsuki subaru”….

uhhh uhhh oh yeah something else vaguely related to this that just came to mind—for example my multichap pride otto fic has me like really wracking my brain bc pride otto has screentime for exactly 0.2 seconds (im totally good at math) so its like. i wanted to like analyze how he most likely thinks and what sort of behaviors he has and how hed even react in All the new shenanigans im putting him in. but im also working off of 0.2 seconds of screentime so i had to also go and look at how main otto thinks and try to make Many Educated Guesses on how otto goes from point a (main otto pre-meeting subaru) to point b (the otto we see in pride if). which is something i do every time i focus on an if character in general anyway HAH bc i think it gets easier to understand if versions of characters, no matter how different they seem from their main route selves, once you examine who their base character is and THEN you look at the if events and how its warped them away from their base character. if that makes sense. i think its really fun hah.

i also recognize though that it wouldve been maybe Easier to make pride otto in my fic a little more. dead inside. empty. bc i know that ive been writing a lot of his anger and irritation hah. and it wouldve made sense for him to be a little more tired kind of dead inside in his internal dialogue!!! but i figured that i might as well go a little differently with it to yes maybe subvert expectations a little bit (and bc. ok after arc 8 Confirming Many Things About Otto, no way pride otto wasnt angry at some point. fr.) but also bc. you know when a person whos been in a traumatic situation they couldnt escape for so long is forced to change themselves to survive? if that person manages to finally escape its like. now they gotta try and unlearn any trauma related lessons theyve learned now that the danger is over bc what helped them survive is now maladaptive bc the danger is Over. thats kind of how i approached the fic fr T^T but also i try so hard to write pride otto as the jaded ass he definitely is. theres so much jades in him for sure. (this sentence totally makes sense.)

oh!!! uh uh one small detail with pride otto—when characters have titles, he will almost Always call them by their title in both internal and external dialogue. reinhard is sword saint and julius is the greatest/finest knight and felix is blue, etc etc. otto is well. 1. emotionally constipated 2. distant from others 3. Going Out of His Way to distance himself from others 4. hes very fixated on power and hierarchy and 5. he is Very aware of the role hes played in crushing each knight in the knight trio. main otto Absolutely feels guilt even as hes being ruthless. i figured pride otto likely at least Used to feel guilty. if hes not still guilty deep down.

okay yes hop has probably atoned for his sins by now and his monologue at rock bottom was really good but it still pisses me off sometimes idkk. im just waiting for the payoff of seeing him actually DO better this time😭

and exactly! the angst in s2 is like- messy- but that’s good television! it gave us a top 5 millie preformance how can i even be mad

men in stranger things are weird sometimes cuz you have to overlook their CRIMES, (i’ll be like “omg jancy!” then i REMEMBER…) it’s weird when a character is randomly at their worst for a scene or a season just to meet the story’s requirements

jopper can scream at each other all sam and diane for nostalgia in s3 but when you look at it in a larger context it’s kinda dicey. like how weird of hop to doubt her when he already knows to trust her instincts.

and also it’s just like- nobody drags him enough for me! he’s so loved- male characters can do ANYTHING kinda- so i have to get him. out of principle. and i see that hopper (and like david harbour) is too important to kill off in the show and that him and el’s relationship isn’t all lows, not even in s2. i think i’m just bitter that 1. st tiktok treats el like she was SO unreasonable in that scene>:( (i need to stop going there it makes me want to rant on tumblr) and 2. how much time was devoted to bringing him back last season like my cali boys were so neglected. :( (after 2 failed prison escape attempts i was like (why i am still looking at this insanely bruised man) so-

but yeah i need to stop typing now cause i have a million thoughts in my head about hopper and the way that he is. and the way the show treats him. (how funny is it that even the viewers can have a complicated relationship with him. maybe i’m not giving the writers enough credit in that regard)

-I have a hard time even being really mad at Jonathan for the Incident cuz like, that was such a weird ooc moment that was clearly just so the plot would happen. Like he got possessed by the spirit of the writers to do that shit. And like I can't even be mad at the writers either because like, the plot they were servicing is really fucking good? I might be the only person in the world who thinks this but I think this show is phenomenally written esp from a plot structure perspective. Near perfectly even. Like this show single-handedly instilled a sense of how to do super satisfying setup and payoff, and how to have every scene push multiple things forward, and how everything seen on screen needs to be relevant to as much as possible. Its so tightly written that its like...yeah Jonathan had to do that shit. It allowed like 3 perfectly intersecting plotlines to play out. There was no other option. And like there probably was and maybe I'm coping or whatever but like...idk it's perfect to me :) But still we forgive but we never forget. And we only forgive after they display a marked change in behavior. And we still never forget <3 (side note: remember when El dumped him and Mike ((and Lucas)) went full andrew tate for a second? That's the one thing he's ((they've)) actually ever done wrong lmaooo ((tbf they were also 13 so like)))

-I think the biggest problem with the Russia plotline is just that it's not fun? Watching Hopper get tortured in a labor camp is not fun? I came here for 80s vibes, friendship and supernatural shit and it only delivers that whenever Joyce and Murray are onscreen (who are really fantastic together tho) and once the monster finally shows up way too late into the proceedings. There should have been inklings of monster throughout to add some intrigue and let us know that this was all going to have a point that tied into the plot of Stranger Things the 80s Monster Show. But alas.

ummmm hi so i’ve been ~obsessed with this story for like so long. long time reader first time commenter. i actually came here to tell you how literally almost all of the 1989 vault tracks have directly reminded me of your story (esp suburban legends and say don’t go)!!! being a tumblr veteran i don’t really spend too much time interacting on here, but i check for an update on your master list every few days just to make sure i haven’t missed anything!

lo and behold i come to your blog to find everyone in complete shambles lmao. all i can really say is that everyone having such strong reactions is a testament to how compelling your story is!!! you are so sympathetic with how you write all of your characters and i hope these uhhhh heightened reactions don’t deter you from the story you want to tell! sometimes it’s hard to write grey areas in fanfic because a lot of people use it for escapism and want everything to be black and white, good and evil. but people are not black and white! i’m rambling, what i’m trying to say is trust your instincts and don’t let die hard stans make you question your own work. fanfic is supposed to be fun! and i’m having so much fun reading yours!

I don't want you to think I'm critical of dancing on her own OK maybe I am but I'm not here to .....make your day worse just give my own two cents I'm glad that peter gets therapy and I'm glad you mention peter is extremely young during all of this it makes me a little bit more empathetic to see his side of the matter and while it's wonderful that our lady character is capable to forgive him despite all this shit he put her through I still don't think she should be romantically involved with him like ever it not that he doesn't deserve her and bla bla (though that is also a very valid point) it not healthy for either of them she has seen him as an escape from her abusive childhood and clung on to the one thing she sees as normal it's quite similar for him to keep her with him because of his abandonment issues maybe there is quite strong love there but is it strong enough to take away the fact that they both view each other as coping mechanisms ? Im also much more optimistic and I like to think if anyone was in th place of the oc would've cut out peter along time ago which is what I wanted for them to go on healing parts separately from one another and find themselves and each other along the way again that's what is my hc for this actually that she views Gabe as the last starw forces him to move out And gets the fuck away from this man whose cut her of from so fucking much just cause he can't stand to have someone else in her life that's so so shitty but then I'm not her I don't even know how I would react if I was put in this situation humans are so weird in this way we are all wired differently while we like to think we want to do something some way we might do the opposite I guess I'm one of those people who like the "but this is the right way to go about things" ending rather than gray ending that don't satisfy me but that's my problem maybe that's what makes this fic so good for me it forces me to confront how I feel about morally Gray characters and complex situations rather than conforming to this good Black and white ending we have something Strange though it is also happy ending just not the one I agree with so yeah....the point of all this is youre a great writer thanks for writing this and I hope peter gets all the therapy he can lives with knowing that he's a very very lucky man cause I would've kicked him out a long time ago. I need to go reread this line by line because it's so much and I love it. And I'm glad you have your own opinions on it! That's what makes writing fun to me is seeing everyone's different takes and sides and who identifies best with what part. I love discussing my work and other people's work that I love in detail. Sometimes I think too many people just throw out a "this was good!" and then bounce. I want to talk about stuff and hear people's deeper thoughts. Esp for a fic like this, I knew it would potentially be divisive.

When I write, the characters sort of are their own people and I'm just their puppet for them to put their stories on the page. I don't know how else to describe it but I have such a clear picture of who they are, what they do, and why they're doing it that they become their own little entity chillin up in my brain. So when I write, I can say "How would x react to y?" And then they sort of take over from there.

For this particular story, I had two very broken, traumatized people. You hit it perfect by saying they were each other's coping mechanism. She has literally never had another friend in her entire life besides Peter. That is not healthy! None of this relationship is healthy. It starts off with Peter protecting her from bullies, the first and only person in her life to ever stand up for her, so she basically imprints on him as her savior. She views him through rose colored glasses. Even when he's horrible to her, when she looks at him, she only sees that scrappy little boy from the first grade beating her bullies with a stick. She can't separate that image of Peter from the man he's grown up to be.

Peter, on the other hand, is so psychologically broken that he's just as bad (actually, he's worse). He's torn between wanting to always save her but not being able to know how/being too scared of failing/her actually not needing him. He doesn't know how to navigate being a super hero and the deaths that come with that and how to keep up healthy relations. You are absolutely right when you say it's not healthy! It's very much not. His depression also lead him down the path of becoming hardened, bitter, and mean. He emotions are frozen up still.

What's funny is that I don't actually view the ending as happy. It feels almost bittersweet to me. She had been waiting her whole life for Peter to love her how she wants. This is the first time he's expressed that out loud to her. She's been waiting for that kiss for so long that I don't think anything else mattered to her in that moment. She's blinded by her childhood dreams. Peter is blinded by his fear of losing her.

Technically this isn't the "end" also. I mean, it's the end of me writing the story but they would still live on in the fictional universe. I do think that she would lose her virginity to him eventually and I do think he would be really sweet about it. But as for them working out long term, I really don't know. The thing about therapy is that it slowly unveils stuff about yourself that you didn't realize over time. (I also don't think a therapist would encourage this relationship, both hers and his, I think they would tell them to hold off on it). I doubt they will listen, though, because I know these characters. They are going to try before they are ready. They are going to try to force things and I don't exactly see the best outcome for them.

For the ending, it's not exactly happy or a finality of what they will be. It's meant to be hopeful and nudged into the direction of healing but that's where it ends.

The rest is to up to you, my love! Envision their messy attempts at a relationship to fail. Envision her striking up a conversation with Gabe a year into the future and him inviting out to movie. Technically anything that happens after they go back home is up to the reader! It's out of my hands!

Final points because I've rambled far too long, the story wasn't meant to be about what is right but what would happen if you put two messy, traumatized humans together and forced them into different situations. They wouldn't make the right choices because they've never been taught anything different. All she's ever known is Peter so, therefore, all she's ever going to chose is Peter...until she works on that in therapy and, hopefully, finds her own self again and learns how to live without her crutch. For now, they recognize their love for the other, whatever form that takes and, for now, that will have to do because they don't know any other way of living. Bittersweet! Not happy.

Thank you for this ask though. It made me happy that someone could even care enough to feel anger on behalf of a character I wrote and want justice for them. All I want is for people to love the creatures in my head as much as I do.

5. Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee

One of my two biggest childhood influences. Ps1/PC puzzle/platformer/adventure game about a funny blue guy escaping from slavery when he discovers his whole race is about to get butchered and sold as food products. Gets back in touch with his native roots and gets granted spiritual powers to help him free his fellow captives and topple capitalism while killing hundreds of cops along the way. There's no guns but there are grenades occasionally. Or you can possess the cops and make them use their guns to kill other cops. And then blow themselves up. Has a ton of sequels and a couple remakes, ports and remasters on PC and just about every other console. Cannot recommend enough. Also you can fart on command this game has a dedicated Fart button you use it for communicating (and then in the sequel you can possess farts too)

4. Myst

The other childhood influence. This game and whole series made me a huge wanderlust slut. Point and click adventure, puzzle solving, world exploring, journal reading. Some puzzles will definitely have you Stumped (but feel free to hmu bc I still have the first game memorised like the back of my hand and am happy to offer guidance ^^) my fave is actually the third game Exile, but I gotta pay respect to the OG. It's full of images and sound effects that remain engraved in my brain in vivid detail 20+ years later

3. Bloodborne

I'm actually not talking abt the whole "series" here I dont rly care much for dark souls etc. It's just this one lmao. Love the tone, love the gameplay, love the level design, love all the horrid monster designs. Love the Rally mechanic discouraging you from hiding and playing safe when you should be going full throttle wailing on everything as fast as possible. I love learning to party attacks with a firearm instead of a shield. I love the blood vials system. I love the doll I love Eileen the crow I love lady Maria I love all the funny little creachurs and most of all I love dying and being dead

2. Final Fantasy V

This ones kinda personal and maybe a bias I guess but idk this was my first FF and even now when I go back to it it just Hits Different somehow. Maybe it's nostalgia/bias but even comparing it to the other pre-ps1 FFs it's just got this vibe of its own. The music helps ofc the music is so fuckin good esp the new pixel remaster arramgements. Anyway it's a nice fun story about Four Complete Randos And Their Grandpa And Pet Chicken And Pet Dragon And Pet Sea Serpent And A Gay Pirate Gang And A Furry And Also A Tortoise At One Point who fight against a Giant Evil Tree that spent like a hundred years absorbing all of the most Evil souls in the world and now he wears a big blue suit of armour and calls himself Exdeath. He wants to conquer and kill and maim and destroy and eventually suck the entire world into The Void for no other reason than he's evil and loves being evil and badass. Not a whole ton of complex plot depth but that's why it's so approachable as a FF game. Also this game is where Gilgamesh and Battle on the Big Bridge came from, plus Omega and Shinryu, so if you like those then you're obligated to play this one. Also one of the main characters is a genderfluid twink with a thing for silver foxes and another is a non-binary/transmasc pirate

1. Kingdom Hearts

I couldn't not lmao. The entire series Of Course but also in this case I specifically mean the first one. Again it might be nostalgia bias but the first KH just has this unique charm to it, this warm atmosphere that none of the others have been able to replicate. Traverse town feels like a second home to me

me, from the future, after i finished writing this: oh god oh fuck im a rambly asshole and i put this underneath the cut

im pretty rusty all things considered and i dont think ive said this explicitly but my academic background is in english literature but within english literature i focused dramatic literature and within dramatic literature i focused specifically on witches and their potrayal on stage. i cant rattle off the esoterica like i used to but essentially the witch on page and on stage is the personification of a given community's anxieties and often in western literature of the anxieties associated with social hyopcrisies and, as one might imagine, socially out-grouped women end up being a pretty good vehicle for that kind of imagery. an an example i like to point to in western canon for its visibility and how explicit it is to these points, while notexactly my specialty because american literature is especially weak for me, is the scarlet letter because its a whole book about a woman suffering the punishment of a man's sin that he super duper definitely also commits but is still totally cool guys i swear and i think a lot of people have read or are aware of the general plot. in this example, they push her to the edge of town while all of them secretly continue to patron her to create a sort of ‘girl what were YOU doing at the devils sacrament’ type of  beat when they are literally all going there for her needlework. to those ends, we see the very basic theme of appearances vs reality re: social hyopcrisy, but its an extra fun layer of commentary on the community’s fears in that they revile her but seek her out specifically to embelish their own vanity (which is very on the nose for our contemporary understanding of puritans haha (wherein the text they are concerned with the appearance of virtue rather than actually acting virtuous)). so the witch in ficiton can often be portrayed yeah as sedentary because a witch who leaves the community who fears her forfeits the dissonance the community participates in that gives her power over that community in the first place. spoilers for scarlet letter, but the reason why i like to point to it as an example especially is because it really does insist on that single-placedness: in the end, neither hester nor dimmesdale can escape the puritanical rule that torments them to, in this reading, illustrate that neither witch, woman or otherwise closted as dimmesdale is, can ever really leave the seat of their power because without it they are a spooky scary reflection without the object thats casts them.

but also my head is full of fuck! and while this was my focus of study, i am by no means an expert (i actually went on to pursue education instead of getting deeper into literature or theater and that body of knowledge has waned even further for me relatively speaking lmao)! this is just one reading of literary witches that i am deeply fond of and is a very handy way to understand any (socially) isolated fictional woman’s role in a story. wrt to our blorbo in laws, consider this reading in context of say savathun or mara or eris morn and you see a lot of neat things that characters in fiction are afraid of. its also sorta funny to psychoanalyze the player base at times, esp wrt how mara is talked about at large at times (but again i cannot emphasize that i dont know anything and i know even less about social sciences and every part of history that i didnt specifically scrutinize for my own study)

I (finally) watched Lupin the First

Actually, I watched it twice, because the first time I was kinda meh... You know the reason is probably... welll... anime Hitler and all rofl. (It’s certainly not the first time we’ve seen anime nazis, it’s just... always bizarre for me >.>) That and I kind of left thinking, “For all the to-do over the 3D animation, it was just an average Lupin story. The guest character took over too much.”

But on second viewing, which is a thing I tend to do because I often have very different opinions when I go in knowing the outcome vs when I don’t, I did in fact like it much better. Liked Laetitia more too, and the amount of attention she got is equivalent to other movie guest characters, so. Only to be expected. It’s a Lupin movie. The story doesn’t fill you with awe, but it is good fun. The characters all had at least one good moment (although, for Goemon, I count him running at full speed chanting "zantetsuken zantetsuken” as his shining moment x’D)

And the 3D animation, which I expected to find off-putting, actually worked out really well! I loved the designs for the main cast. Lupin does look a liiiittle cartoony compared to the other guys, but at least he looks like himself. A noodle man.

(The girls are a different matter. Both Fujiko and Laetitia look plucked out of a Disney movie - Frozen in particular. Of course feminine characters never get the flexibility of design that masculine ones do. But it was a little weird seeing Elsa and Anna set alongside Jigen’s fuzzy beard and Zenigata’s cleft chin, esp bc the girls’ eyes are so much larger.)

Fav bits are def the car chase in the beginning, and Lupin channeling his inner spider-man to web-sling through the tunnel of death. And Goemon driving, lol.

My one quibble - aside from anime Hitler rofl - is that the climax at the end, where Lupin almost gets sucked into the black hole, is like... entirely his own fault?? I think??? I possibly misunderstood what was going on, but as far as I can tell, he leaves all the others behind to deal with the nazis, goes to face Gerard (or whatever his name is) himself, deliberately sets off the micro black hole thingy in a way which I guess is meant to destroy it forever, and... doesn’t have a backup plan in case his method of escape (parachute) is lost? That... took a little of the drama away for me. I kept thinking “What a dumb way to die. All your friends are inside watching like, ‘Gee, maybe we should have suggested at least one of the four of us went with him to help in case of emergency,” lol. Yeah, this is all typical of Lupin, going in alone etc. But I mean, I laughed, and I wasn’t meant to be laughing then :P The whole thing is set up to make the main character have to go it alone, I guess he’s probably thinking something like “I gotta protect them so I’ll go by myself” or some such. At least bring a spare parachute, bro. Or throw sticky putty at the one and only enemy who you know will be there to prevent you escaping...

However, that aside, the movie is pretty entertaining. If you like Lupin, you’ll know what you’re getting into anyway. It’s got significantly more action going on than Part VI, thank goodness. Fujiko still doesn’t wear a bra but she kicks ass and that’s what going bra-less is all about.

A bonus fav: Fujiko saving Jigen’s hat, so fast I almost missed it

1. Most self-indulgent AU

OKAY, I KNOW I ANSWERED THIS HERE, BUT I HAVE ANOTHER ONE….. my ChrysiJacks Wicked AU is VERY self-indulgent. I think Jacks being an annoying popular kid in a magic school and Chrysi being the outcast is VERY good, especially since I think Jacks would slowly fall in love with Chrysi, even though she’s the weird, creepy outcast. (Plus, everyone that describes Chrysi calls her the one with “hair like bone, eyes like blood, and her face is speckled like a toad’s back” and then Jacks sees her and is like “have you guys never seen freckles before?” Like.. yeah, as if Chrysi isn’t the most bewitching person ever.) Then when they fall in love, Chrysi has to go into hiding because she pissed off the wizard president… yep! Good stuff!

Jacks ends up being engaged to Tella, but both of them can tell his heart’s not in it. When he sees Chrysi again, he thinks he just might scream!!! He’s so happy!

The song As Long As You’re Mine? Followed by No Good Deed??? WHEWWWWW, CHRYSIJACKSCORE… Chrysi saving him by turning him into the scarecrow, Jacks lying and acting like he’s helping Dorothy (??? Though it probably won’t end up being Dorothy LOL) kill Chrysi, when he’s actually working on his escape plan with her? Both of them leaving Oz together, because they care about each other so much? It’s just. Yeah. I love Wicked and I have since I was younger (We don’t talk about the book here. It’s an okay book, but we do not discuss it here.)

2. Guilty pleasure AU

Again, I answered that here, but I HAVE ONE MORE. My Chrysi/Tris Fear Street AU is a MAJOR guilty pleasure… I actually curse Chrysi this time, and later Chrysi gets possessed (she stabs Tris with his own broken drumstick. It’s great) and!!! I just love it because I never give Chrysi and Tris a love story that’s meant to last, but this one!!! This is it!!! They fall in love and they stay in love! Yes, Tris did technically kill Chrysi, but it was out of love :) And she came back to life in the end. So it’s fine.

Plus I think a lot of the relationship drama is still similar to the movie, since Tris is bi and he can be very self-conscious about how Chrysi and others perceive him.

And there’s the whole part where Tris is tying Chrysi up places, like his little possessed pet. He’s taking his possessed girlfriend out on walks :) Don’t worry, she only bites sometimes.

I’m not very coherent, but their relationship fits very well in the storyline—Chrysi’s a cheerleader that moved the town over, Tris sneaks over to see her at the game because he used to be in marching band (he never turned in the uniform), and uhhh, they both get mean in that argument. I love it.

12. Free Space (Askers choice) 

I’m jst going to mention a random AU off the top of my head!! Ummm, OH, my Twelve Dancing Princesses / Entwined AU with Chrysi and Archibald!!! Chrysi is fighting tooth and nail, trying to keep Archibald from being interested in her, but, by God, he’s determined to get to know her. She just wants to use him to break the curse. It’s hilarious, esp since he knows her well enough by the climax to be able to tell which Chrysi is the real Chrysi and which Chrysi is Elias Bloom planning on stabbing him. He also gets to see Chrysi pummel Elias Bloom into the floor. It’s very fun for him. Oh, also he and Chrysi kiss and stuff. And. Stuff.

13. An AU I’m fixated on right now

I’m actually currently working on Fake Dating ChrysiJacks at the moment! So that’s something I’ve been fixated on—just the growing displeasure Chrysi has with the arrangement, and the way that she realizes (with great horror) that she wishes Jacks actually wanted her in a romantic way—instead of in a way to get back at his ex. But she puts up with it. She gets a lot snappier with Jacks as time goes on, though, and Jacks doesn’t realize why.

By the time Jacks realizes he actually does love her, unfortunately, Chrysi’s decided she’s done with it. He tries to tell her that he wants to kiss her, but she jst looks at him tiredly and goes, “No you don’t. You want to kiss Tella. I’m just a convenient stand-in, since I won’t die.” He doesn’t get the chance to tell her that he’s not stupid anymore and he actually does love her.

Too little, too late.

Data hoarding (esp web 1.0). Swimming used to be my favorite outdoor activity but it's a bummer doing it alone. I write and dabble in digital art for fun but I struggle a lot with sharing.

I love the smell of the ocean. Hopefully one day I can return to Cornwall and get a good sniffa in on Merlin's Cave. I almost got stuck in there at high tide, but I gotta say it smelled delightful while I hopskipped for my life.

Teeth are also neat! I have intimate experience. It's so neat that we have bones on the outside.

🦀 Animals: seahorse, opossum, kiwi bird, cephalopods, crows and pigeons bc they're smart af and know no fear, chickens bc they have so much personality... man I'm all about the animal kingdom's weirdest n silliest lil fellas.

🕹️ Games: JUST GOT A ROG ALLY SO I BE GAYMIN!! Currently playing Stardew Valley, Dave the Diver, Balatro, and Fallout New Vegas! Some all-time faves: Zelda, Zero Escape, BioShock, Fallout, Dragon Age, Baldur's Gate, Bugsnax, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga... One of my besties got me into Vintage Story, which I can't recommend enough, even if it's been a bit since I updated our multiplayer server. I should defs get on that... Anyway I friggin adore games that focus on story and exploration! I'm a slut for environmental storytelling, like object clutter... Oh!!! Also surreal and psychological horror! But like if monsters are involved I'd prefer to be dating them ya feel me?

🫐 Food: blueberries, blue powerade zero bc regular tastes funny, cheese, jerky, pickles, cheesecake, tarts, fish (cooked or raw, in general tbh, Cajun cooking means tons of wet critters yumyum). Anything spicy or sour or with a dash of acidity for balance! I can't handle too much sweetness and prefer more tart or fruity snackies.
