Okay so in the United States we CAN get the little sheets of pills, but I think that's mostly for over the counter medicines? As far as I understand it, many prescriptions that are fulfilled by an actual pharmacist (as in you have to go to the counter to get the pills) are all counted out by hand? tbh I've never thought to question it. I think they get the pills in bulk and have to portion them out? does it save waste? we just don't know

This is SO weird to me.

It seems unsafe? And impractical? Especially for prescription meds. Like, if someone's taking different medications and they're all in identical bottles with only very small print telling you what it is, that seems to be begging for mishaps. What if you have bad eyesight, or don't look carefully enough, or spill bottles?

Likewise with prescription meds having to be counted out individually, what if there's cross-contamination? What if someone gets distracted? What if something is accidentally mislabeled, how would you ever know?

For reference, part of my job is sorting out weekly pillboxes for people who can't do it themselves, for various reasons. This is what someone's meds usually look like:

Everything is clearly labeled! Big, easy to read, the packages are all labeled in braille as well. See the 2 blisters without a package? That seems unsafe doesn't it?

Well.

It actually isn't! (Having them laying around loose like this is still bad practice, don't do that) It has the name, dose, lot number and use-by all on it. If I dropped this entire box on the ground so that everything was scattered, it would still be easy to sort out.

Usually packages come in 3 sizes: N1 (10-20 pills) for acute treatment, N2 (around 50), and N3 (usually about 100, more rarely 200), for long-term/permanent medications. That's enough variety for most purposes (and treatments like a course of antibiotics are usually standardized so the package will already have exactly as many tablets as you need).

AND! Everything being in blisters also makes it easy to count out! If you give out individual pills, like when you're a vet.

Sorry ik it's probably just a cultural difference & there's a good reason for americans to be doing what they're doing but this whole thing is so strange to me 😅

walmart proudly supports this strip of land by the street! here are some flowers with wilting leaves. its employees have to pay out-of-pocket for their uniforms. my friend once got fined by the city because she organized a community pick-up of the riverfront, which was technically private property.

no, you cannot afford to take that dance class, neither can i. by the way - i'm a teacher. i'm absolutely not saying "educators shouldn't be paid fairly." i'm saying that when i taught classes, renting a studio went from 20 bucks an hour to 180 in the span of 6 months. no significant changes to the studio were made, except they now list the place as updated and friendly. the heat still doesn't work in the building. i have literally never seen the landlord who ignores my emails. recently they've been renting it out at night as an "unusual nightclub; a once-in-a-lifetime close-knit party." they spent some of those 180 dollars on LEDs and called it renovating. the high heels they invite in have been ruining the marley.

I saw some posts just outlining Jan 21st, and wanted to clarify that Bisan has called for a full seven days of action.

What a global strike would look like is:

calling in sick to work

purchasing bare essentials ahead of the week so you can observe the general boycott of goods / buying as little as you genuinely can

putting in a concerted effort to elevate Palestinian voices and make it clear that this strike is in support of a permanent ceasefire!

Completely disregarding and disrespecting any expertise on socio-cultural topics/humanities and distrusting academics and historians (incl. acting as if no academics or historians could be queer or marginalised)

Downplaying the role misogyny played in the historical oppression of queer women and concluding that queer men must have been more oppressed than queer women

Bi women are, at best, not as queer as "real" queer ppl, and at worst, simply equivalent to straight women

Despite nominal trans inclusivity, transmasculine ppl are functionally women when convenient (combined with the above, bi transmascs are functionally straight women)

Despite nominal trans inclusivity (bis), shamelessly attacking, threatening and actively endangering any trans woman who questions them or smth they find important (often by unfairly presenting her as violent or as a threat)

Like idk but I feel like the takeaway from Hbomberguy and Toddintheshadow's videos should maybe be "be aware of such patterns in your communities bc they definitely exist" and not "this guy is uniquely awful" and I feel like a lot of the discussion I've seen surrounding this has been severely failing at that. Most ppl who've spent any significant amount of time on tumblr prob either have internalised at least one of those thought patterns, have had to de-internalise them, or have had to be extremely vigilant to not internalise them (which is done by, you know, seeking out other sources, which also seemed like an important takeaway from the videos)

you aren't supposed to laugh at your own jokes, so you don't, but then you're too serious. you're not supposed to be too loud, but then people say you're too quiet. you aren't supposed to get passionate about things, but then you're shy, boring. you aren't supposed to talk too much, but then people are mad when you're not good at replying.

you fold yourself into a prettier paper crane. since you never know what is "selfish" and what is "charity," you give yourself over, fully. you'd rather be empty and over-generous - you'd rather eat your own boundaries than have even one person believe that you're mean. since you don't know what the thing is that will make them hate you, you simply scrub yourself clean of any form of roughness. if you are perfect and smiling and funny, they can love you. if you are always there for them and never admit what's happening and never mention your past and never make them uncomfortable - you can make up for it. you can earn it.
