"I was gonna say you're like a son to me.. but you're more than that."
"It ain't that complicated!"
How quickly that shoulder pat of comfort turned into a condescending one.

Another plot bunny has bitten me. The Isu are seen as gods, and they created humans, but God also created something else.
Angel’s.
What if Angel’s were the Isu’s ‘first’ attempt at creating a slave race, but they made them a little too useful. Like they were given some of the same powers as the artifacts you find in the games? There were some that had the power of the shrouds, so they could heal. Others had the 'knowledge’ base of the apple’s, etc.
And what if, these beings that were powerful, and had knowledge, and wings, decided they didn’t want to be enslaved?
So they revolted, like the humans later on, but ultimately failed. And this is where the terms 'fallen angel’ and 'demons’ stems from. Most were wiped out, and those that couldn’t be killed were imprisoned. And one of those angel’s just so happens to be Desmond.
He was a 'jack of all trades’ angel, but one that pretty much excelled at everything he was 'built’ to do, and one of the innate abilities he had made him very difficult, nearly impossible, to kill. So he was one of the ones imprisoned.
And where was he imprisoned at? The vault under the vatican. So Rodrigo was wrong in stating that God himself was inside the vault, but the assassin’s were very much right in thinking it was a 'weapon’.
So Ezio gets to the vault, and instead of a message from Minerva, he finds a winged man, chained suspended in the air, his wings pinned like a butterfly’s to the wall and bleeding golden blood.
And Desmond, knowing this being wasn’t an Isu, but also not an Angel, doens’t know what to do with the man that frees him.
Rodrigo though? Desmond doesn’t know what he is, but he knows evil when he sees it, and Desmond decides the first act of his freedom is to rid the world of an Isu adjacent monster.
===============================
Additions from teecup:
Perhaps we can even make it that Desmond had been ‘saved’ by Minerva because he had been Minerva’s slave. But it wasn’t kindness that made Minerva push for him to be imprisoned. Other than the fact that he was almost indestructible, Desmond’s genes were used for the second attempt of slaves because he was, for some reason, less violent than his ‘brethren’ (honestly, it was because Minerva was less of a dick than the rest of the Isus but he wasn’t going to say that) so the fallen angel Desmond became the ‘basis’ of humans.
So Rodrigo wasn’t exactly wrong in saying ‘God’ dwells inside the vault as one may look at Desmond’s connection to humanity as something similar to a god. Just… not the god Rodrigo assumes.
Also, Desmond’s connection to humanity would make him ‘kinder’ to them, especially to Ezio who he sees as the one who unchained him from his prison. At the same time, Ezio’s mastery of the Eagle Vision meant that he was drenched in the blood of the Isus, of the blood of those who betrayed him and his brethren so there would be some kind of conflict between them as well.
Desmond doesn’t need to see evil to not like Rodrigo. Rodrigo is the leader of an organization that says “May the Father of Understanding Guides Us” who, as far as Desmond knew, was supposed to be Yaldabaoth since Yaldabaoth was the Father of Understanding in charge of creating a slave race for the Isus (also, even if he hears that it’s Tinia, he’d be like “Tinia’s an idiot who was able to remain of high standing because his daughter was brilliant.”)
… If other fallen angels were imprisoned because they couldn’t be killed, doesn’t that mean that we can make Desmond’s main goal is to save those still alive?
Like, perhaps one of them was underneath Alamut and the other was in the Grand Temple (just to give us some kind of way to include Altaïr and Ratonhnhaké:ton XD)

jjk 208 was ok besides the yuki treatment (which makes it as a whole a big ol' fat stinker for me), but idk... How Gege handles deaths are very telling and built up but if Yuki is dead, then this is a dramatic shift in how Gege writes those who die. Plus, Garuda is an intertwined concept of the Phoenix and just disappeared this chapter. Maybe Yuki will rise from the ashes in some way

one thought before i disappear again but i really fail to understand damian fans' logic or interaction with canon on any level like your entire engagement with him as a character relies on a bastardization of every person around him. i don't see what worth there is in comparing how dick and bruce are comparatively written as parental figures in damian's life when your primary basis for analysis is canon from a writer who believes (1) dick shouldn't be in a relationship with kory bc he's happy-go-lucky and hates drama; and (2) bruce's life as a hero naturally culminates in fascism. neither of these are good faith takes on the characters involved so how can you place any value in how either of them are portrayed to interact with damian by way of that. and obv this doesn't even get into the plethora of talia issues which i have essayed about to the point of exhaustion. like idk i get that i can't make people hate a character obv lol and for many damian fans that attachment is there bc they read about him when they were young but i still don't really understand what there is about damian to be invested in once you're an adult who realizes he is holistically built on character assassination and racist stereotypes that he is inseparable from. like you can't really analyze his interactions with anyone without the context for those interactions being shoddy writing of someone else and i know that can happen in comics a lot but it happening in isolation is different from it forming the entire basis for a character

honestly, my working theory is that between season 4 and 5, Blaine built his way up to how far he can go with touching and prodding at Major in some elaborate psychological torture version of playing chicken but Major committed to the 'you're not getting a rise out of me with this' act very early and now, if he puts an end to it, Blaine thinks he's won so they're stuck in an endless loop of continuous escalation

— OCS AS GREEK GODS
HECATE
double, double toil and trouble. yeah you don't really get much facetime in the myths but you're literally the god of magic and dogs so stay winning. mysterious goth energy, does she really do complete dark rituals or is that just her vibe. no one knows and you're not telling
HERMES
you literally were born and then invented mischeif. like you were a newborn and you immidiately inbented theivery and then lying. go you. you are the living embodiment of chaotic neutral. Yes people are so annoyed by you sometimes, but you are so unbelievably charming that you get away with everything. who doesn't love a charming rogue
ARTEMIS
i mean this in the kindest way possible, you give off huge autistic lesbian vibes. oh you're living in the isolated wilderness? hmm. only with women? yes uh huh. if we're following myths as metaphors you have literal trans egg cracking energy so doubly good for you.
─────────────────────────
— OCS CORE
SILENT ADMISSIONIN
tarot, the fool is numbered 0 – the number of unlimited potential. as the protagonist, he is ever present and therefore needs no number as well as no introduction. the world revolves around you in ways that i can't begin to describe, though you'd shrug it off if i were to begin to explain. i need you to know that time is running out. if you want to get this done, you need to start now. sloth is your greatest enemy in this world, and you can only run so far from the opposition when you start with such a disadvantage. keep your head high, yeah? the kid you were is still in there somewhere. you need to show him that it was worth it.
CAUTERIZING RAGE
the house has burned around you, and you’re the only one left standing. is it gratifying to be the survivor? fear and anger are weapons in your capable hands, used only to serve your agenda of fighting back when deemed necessary. you're a powerful person, built from the ashes of your despair and your family's mistakes. with time, you'll bloom into someone softer, like the full blossoms that grow each spring and wither away with the leaves in fall. they won't disappear if you take your eyes off of them. you're enough.
ANIMAL INTUITION
loyalty is the saint you pray to. if you ever were stabbed in the back by your beloved, you'd probably apologize. to your enemies, you're fierce. to your allies, even fiercer. you cultivate a thick inner circle built on promises and devotion, fit only for the best of the best. it's impossible for most to even begin to dissect the type of person you are, owing to your unbreakable emotional walls and confusing philosophies. dream careers? body guard, movie star, unwitting pawn. don't let people get the best of that loyalty.
FRACTURED GLASS
no amount of orchestrated class is ever going to hide the fact that you’re doomed to be alone. you’re a puppet, you’re a weapon, but most importantly? you’re a fraud. your facade isn’t malicious, but that doesn’t change a thing. everything in your life is in your control now, and you chose to let yourself become stiff and distant. you’re guilty of everything you blame yourself for, and your misfortune is the fault of nobody but yourself. your selfish nature forges you into a man-made monster, so quick to blame and so desperate to escape consequence. i hope that you can become someone you’re proud of soon.

i think the frankenstein version of dracula daily has arrived at the "justine is framed for murder and as such gets executed for it" portion which makes the petty part of me gloriously happy that a lot of people are going to finally realize that the creature is not, in fact, uwu soft baby and that he actively planted evidence on an innocent woman to get her arrested and then convicted and then executed for murder for absolutely no reason other than he felt like it because he's an asshole. and i'll finally get to see the death of "the creature did nothing wrong he's a sweet boy!" takes within my lifetime.

youtube has caught onto the fact that im in a shizaya phase and is now recommending me the good shit, such as this interview:
which doesnt actually give us a huge insight into their relationship other than the basic "izaya prevents me from having a peaceful life so i hate him" "shizu-chan is a monster i hate him"
but we DO get funny tidbits like the fact that izaya claims he would absolutely attack shizuo while shizuo was sleeping BUT also admits that he's seen shizuo's "cute sleeping face" before and doesn't mention attacking him?????
and shizuo wasn't aware izaya had seen him which is odd because you'd expect izaya to have messed with him or something right?? and izaya would probably do something to make shizuo automatically know it was izaya upon waking up, like idk drawing something on his face or dunking him into a fountain or smth but there was just nothing. huh.
pathetic man walks past sleeping and vulnerable arch-nemesis, calls him cute and walks away alright
not to mention one of his ideas for messing with shizuo would for him to "wake up on 60th avenue and find himself naked" like izaya?? you know you'd have to make him naked yourself????
and i already knew that shizuo knows where izaya lives but like. why. what possible reason could he have. like maybe he tracked izaya there one day but you'd think he would have killed him at that point because izaya has nowhere to run inside his apartment right?? and shizuo talks like he's never considered attacking izaya while he's asleep ("I know where he lives, so I can if I want t- ...maybe not.") but wouldnt you consider that if you've known where he lives for god knows how long???
does izaya know that shizuo knows where he lives?? and obviously izaya would know where shizuo lives because he's just Like That but i think it's interesting that for however many years they've been beefing they've never tried to just end it until ketsu
maybe because it wouldn't be satisfying/fun in izaya's case or would feel underhanded in shizuo's case or something but still...
anyway they've totally fucked at each other's houses HAHA i fooled you into thinking you were reading coherent serious thoughts when in actuality-

🔥unpopular charles opinion
The thing is, it’s not an opinion, really. The question isn’t meant to be a complaint or a rebuttal or anything. I just genuinely don’t get it! The question goes something like this.
So Charles/Klinger seems to be the one actively disliked ship in the fandom, discounting the h*nn*hawk vs p*erc*ntyre gang war and that one rabidly anti-hawnk person (lol). Most nobody has any love for the ship, because it’s stupid and OOC, of course, but mostly because it’s egregiously obviously racist and gross, which is the critique that seems most common, and to be of most importance to people.
And to be clear, for the purposes of this post I am wholly agreeing with all that! It’s distasteful and immoral and people who are into it are insane, including me. I’m not arguing against this line of thinking, I just wanted to look at its inner logic. Because when I first heard people saying this, I thought, “Yeah, makes sense, Charles is truthfully a terrible person with abhorrent opinions. Nobody watching this already unfortunately bigotry-riddled show is obligated to try and look past that! It is Always valid to hate Charles’ guts.”
But it turns out most of the fandom (I assume it must be most, given how shockingly few people here have blocked me) actually don’t hate Charles, in general. It’s the specific ship, not the character, that’s distasteful. (Not to say any Charles ship is anything resembling popular, but like with most ships, that’s just a result of the general population’s Hawkeye BJ Laser Focus Gaze. I’ve never seen anybody actively dislike these ships when they’re brought up.) And the more I think about it, the more I wonder why, because well. to put it bluntly. It’s not like someone stops being racist when they’re not actively interacting with a nonwhite person.
You know what I mean? I feel like Charles’ bigotry would be a turn off for all of our generally morally sound protagonists, not just one who happens to be personally affected by it. But it only becomes an issue when it involves Klinger. I’ve heard people say that any Charles/Klinger ship fic would obviously have to go out of its way to address Charles’ racism, but I’ve read a few Charles/Hawkeye and Charles/Donna (and Charles / other strange and varied choices too, because of course I have) fics–really, REALLY good fics, that captured the characters very nicely and are very beautifully written–and I’ve yet to find one that discusses The Bigotry In The Room with any degree of seriousness.
(Pssst this is everyone’s chance to absolutely dunk on me by sending me fics that do this if there actually are a bunch and I’ve just never read them because I would in fact LOVE to read some fics with that topic regardless of ship!)
And to be clear, that’s fine with me! I truly do not care. When I read Charles running away to Maine or romancing Ms. Parker and I don’t see his love interests stop to ask “Hey, um, so any updates on the fact that you and your whole family are eugenicists?”, it doesn’t bother me in the slightest, because I just assume that Charles has already gone through the cult deprogramming step of his character development at some point prior to this, and either the love interest in question has already confirmed this off-page, or they are making the same assumption I am. After all, at least in Hawkeye’s case, the mere act of admitting romantic interest in a Democrat from the back of beyond would necessarily imply a shift in values, right?
(Admittedly, for all we canonically know Donna could be a fashy scumlord herself, so this reasoning doesn’t wholly apply there, but it obviously does to her fanon background/personality.) (Which is adorable, by the way. Everyone go check out the collective oeuvre of AO3 user onekisstotakewithme.)
So that’s all cool! It’s just that the same thing applies for me when it comes to Charles/Klinger. If anything, it applies even more, because you can have a fic where Charles’ whole family attend his and Donna’s 2nd wedding (Everyone go check out the collective oeuvre of AO3 user onekisstotakewithme!!!) but if Charles gets with Maxwell in any capacity, his father is at the very LEAST never going to speak to him again, ever. And personally I think that is SO fun and sexy, because Charles’ father is a white supremacist and I want him to die painfully forever and ever amen. <3
I got sidetracked a few times here and I just realized I never actually asked the question, which is, TL;DR: If it’s immoral–or at least gross and nonsensical–to ship Charles/Klinger, because Charles is bigoted, shouldn’t the same also apply to shipping Charles with many other characters too, given that they should logically also have a problem with his bigotry?
For what it’s worth, I have a bit of a theory about the answer to this, all to do with the incompetent way Charles’ bigotry (and other characters’ reactions to it) are portrayed in canon and the deeper Doylist factors that I think forced the showrunners into writing it like that, but I wanted to stay strictly on the topic of fandom attitudes for now, because it may be niche and silly, but I find it interesting. And I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts on it!

So to summarize:
"If Azazoth wakes up the universe ends"
and
"Shiva could Dr Manhattan anyone and anything out of existence by looking at them"
are mythologies that can and should co-exist, and picking just one is yet another example of FGO finding the one wrong answer and going with that.
they kept the shiva dr manhattaning ppl out of existence thing but ONLY for kama and ONLY to make shiva look like a colossal dick as well. like lets be real here if you were actively grieving your dead wife (who killed herself protecting your honor against her father no less), had made it explicitly clear you weren't ready/in the mood to remarry even if it was to her reincarnation, and some guy tried to love arrow you to get you to fall for said reincarnation anyway you might lose your temper! and he DID bring kama back to life as anaga as an apology in the actual myth, they just made it happen by accident in fate bc...idk screw the idea of a god trying to make up for hurting someone else i guess? this is off topic tho ghkldsf
like ideally if you wanted to make every religion canon AND absolutely had to bring powerscaling into it youd probably have it be something like current faith of believers+overall cultural impact+age of actual religion/myth/whathaveyou so you COULD give cthulu mythos some weight when up against like...idk the greek pantheon as it DID have a marked effect on specific styles of horror (ie it invented a new one) and is sort of known by most people in a pop culture kind of way (in that it is more relevant to the current cultural zietgiest than greek mythology. this is a bad example bc greek mythology is also still wildly popular just as the stories but ykwim). that being said no one really actually worships them, so actually having them square off against gods is...silly for lack of a better word?
and to use my previous example, if you wanted a like cthulu vs zeus showdown using the parameters i mentioned while its true that lovecraft mythos is much more well known/current to today and operates on a much larger cosmice scale, greek mythology and the culture it created HEAVILY influenced other mediterannean cultures which in turn heavily influenced a whole bunch of other cultures and that would need to be taken into account even if zeus is 'only' a thunder god. (ignoring that he was also actually worshiped, and for a far greater period of time than any lovecraft god)
so like, keeping all of the cosmic scale of the lovecraft gods but going 'uh well actually none of the other gods are like how you heard they were' is annoyingly inconsistent. even with whatever excuses they have re: sefar or whatever its just...bad storytelling. why is this one made up pantheon the only one exempt from their own rules, and why is it the one that actively seems to go against the franchise's general themes of the human spirit? it just BOTHERS me lol like picking and choosing when to follow or break their rules isnt at all new to fate but i think the fact that out of all the god pantheons they couldve left unaltered they chose the one invented by lovecraft touched a nerve in me.
this is all a very long way of saying that if azazoth DID exist and DID have all those powers it wouldnt even matter if he woke up bc the minute he even thought about stirring all the other equally omnipotent omniscient all-powerful gods from across cultures would simultaneously flip him off so hard hed cry
