new podcasts I discovered this week while I frantically finished a crocheting project:
Syntax - how come I’ve never heard anyone talk about it???? I’m only on eps 8 but is sooo good and Silas is baby girl through and through,,, also pls let me hug J, Alyx and Lissy 😭
Midnight Burger - soooo funny and cool??? Gloria is such a mood and Caspar pls I love him (also I’m on episode 5)
The storage papers - I finally caved in and listened to it, it’s good but Uhm I think I missed the over all plot (or maybe there isn’t one idk I’m just confused 😭💀 but I’m also only on eps 10)

Listen up pod pals, what we’re NOT going to do right now is stop engaging with RQ Network shows.
If you read The Article and that’s the conclusion you came to, I beg you to reread.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, these shows ARE NOT PRODUCED BY RQ. Cutting your support to them because you want to disengage from RQ is not the answer. You would be hurting the people you want to help.
This includes in house RQ creators. Do NOT harass them. We’re. Not. Doing. It.

So I've been listening to podcasts again and I wish someone had done this for me when I started out, so let's sum up and describe some podcasts, shall we?

The Magnus Archives - Jonathan Sims, newly instated Head Archivist at the Magnus Institute, London, is trying to sort through statements of people that claim to have had all kinds of supernatural encounters, while only having a taperecorder to do so, because for some reason, the statements won’t let themselves be recorded on anything else. But I’m sure it’s nothing, right? Supernatural Horror at it’s finest, with incredible characters and worldbuilding. 200 episodes.
Welcome to Nightvale - An incredibly cryptic podcast, set in the fictional town of Nightvale, where all the conspiracy theories are true. Listen to Cecil Palmer, the host of Nightvale Community Radio talk about the happenings in the town, his day and that strange, beautiful new scientist that has come to town. Over 200 episodes, ongoing.
Wolf 359 - Communication Officer Doug Eiffels log of the USS Hepaestus’ journey, observing the red dwarf wolf 359. Twists and turns, some expected, some most definitely not, all in all a good time for all podcast fans. 61 episodes.
The Strorage Papers - Unsetteling horror stories, found in a storage lot, unraveling faster that a ball of yarn. Can you keep up? And, perhaps the more important question: Can you keep it together? Carefully crafted stories that make you lock your doors twice. 104 episodes, ongoing.
The Penumbra Podcast - The space noir tales of Private I, Detective Juno Steel and his adventures on planet mars. A podcast so mysterious and casually queer, it’s almost addictive. Although their phonecall noise sounds like my alarmclock, the sound design, characters, storytelling and worldbuilding are unlike anything I’ve ever come across. 4 seasons with about 20 episodes.
Camp Here and There - Camp Nurse Sydneys recordings of his daily announcements. If you’re a fan of Gravity Falls, this is that next summer you’ve been waiting for. 34 episodes for now, possibly ongoing, possibly not.

This is it for now, I’ll be adding on when I can. I hope this’ll help someone...       or not.

My friend does this a lot so I’m taking a stab at it. I’m looking for more Podcasts to listen to I need to kill sometime the next few days. I’ll tag ones I’m thinking of and ones I liked so far.
I really liked Malevolent (just look at my blog)
A Voice from Darkness is another big one for me. As is Red Valley (I binged that one)
WTN, Wolf 359,, The Storage Papers, The Scarab Archives and the Technomancy Project.
Ones in my to be listened to pocket are as follows Woe.Begone, Kane and Feels: Paranormal Investigators, and Neighborly.
Started and never finished Penumbra, Spirit Box Radio, and Hello from the Hallowoods.
Any other recommendations? And for the ones I listed which would you start with? I tried the Slit Verses that seems popular but I couldn’t get into it.

Audio Drama Sunday!
It’s been a hot second since I’ve done #audiodramasunday but this week I wanna shout out a few shows that are worth listening to, AND whose cast/creators I have personally seen make the community a better, more supportive place lately. 🎶🏴‍☠️🖤
🤖 First up, say hello to your new AI overlords with @human-b-gon. You’re seeing buzz about this show for a reason- but it’s also worth noting the creators have been on the scene connecting and hyping up other creators for a while now. That’s dedication worth mentioning!
💖 Warmly welcome @starshipqstar to the community y’all! Queer comedic sci-fi with a ton of heart. And let’s GO with this aesthetic. The show may be new, but I already see them going out of their way to interact with and boost other creators.
🐺 OBVIOUSLY @packhowlmedia is on this list. Aside from helping us produce, the creators also run #ADRAID. Our feature this week boosted our numbers and made us new friends! Trust me, connect with these creative mentors and listen to their AD leviathan, The Madness of Chartrulean.
💚 Did you know The Liminal Lands features other shows embedded in their episodes to support them? Or that the creator runs one of the most active Discord communities for AD I’ve ever seen? There’s so much love in there. Go marvel at this family-grown, surreal journey!
💅 Love drag? Camp? Soap operas? Ever wish there was an audio drama that brought these elements together in a series of feature-length stories? @sisterindica-blog may write some of the backstabbiest plots you’ve ever heard, but is a warm presence for creators and is always boosting.
⭐ When I think about support in this community, I think W. Keith Tims (who is not on Tumblr but go follow him elsewhere!) His show Book of Constellations is itself a love note to humankind, and he started The First Episode Of to uplift AD creators (we’ve been guests on it ourselves!)
🎧 Chances are good you know @horrificnathan (@thestoragepapers) and Cole Weavers' (Tiny Terrors) shows, but they deserve a shoutout for all they do. Did you know they also run Phonic Fiction Fest, a community-bolstering AD contest? We are still reeling from the connections and impact even months later.
📚 Speaking of PFF connections, have you seen @amongthestackspodcast's progress? Releasing soon and picking up speed, it’s going to be one to look out for. Nigel is a great ringleader, bringing people together, and I’m excited to see her vision for the infinite library.
✨ @innbetween has brought some wonderful connections into our life and show, and how could they not with the sweet, uplifting community they foster? Also, have you seen how committed they are to interacting with fans while staying down-to-earth? Aspirational honestly.
💜Ok yes I’m also in @careandfeedingofwerewolves, but I stick around for a reason. Listen to a few episodes and you’ll hear more than just a fun modern fantasy. They’ve baked in a ton of advocacy, found family, and blatant callouts on issues that often effect people in AD.
🥛 Lastly, go listen to @ophiuchusradio. They’re not *just* doing it for the bit. OR is funny, smart, and they have a full first season ready to binge. @ghirahims-left-shoe is a powerhouse of AD hype with an impeccable ear for the craft. If she spots your show, you’re seriously blessed.
🖤 I’ve undoubtedly missed some this week (already kicking myself over a few, I'll getcha next time!) but please know I’ve got a lot of love for y’all and this community. Keep creating. Keep uplifting creators who are using their stories to make the world magical. Keep being kind and human. To others, and to yourself.

So I sorta refuse to listen to The Magnus Archives Season 5 because I just do not vibe with JMart and I actively dislike Martin (extensive reason for that, uh, here.) Although I suppose I have to get to season 5 because of my recent writing project.
But anyone who enjoys/ enjoyed TMA, I have some podcast recommendations for you if you didn’t find them already:
The Amelia Project
Where the Stars Fell
The Storage Papers
ETA 17/01/24:
Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbidity and Mortality
Cellar Letters
Malevolent
You need to be okay with swearing (loads of swearing) for WTSF and you need to be okay with Death being extensively thematised and somewhat ridiculed for TAP
Religious imagery is getting kinda weird in both WTSF and TSP but I’m so far intrigued rather than put off.
And a side-note: Season 5 of TAP is coming up (12th May) and will apparently feature not just Ben Meredith but also Jonny Sims as a guest voice actor
It might seem counter-intuitive but I wold suggest you check out the TAP Anniversary Special to get a feeling for the main character. Then you go back and start at Season 1, the story only really picks up at season 2 but trust me, it’s intriguing and will hook you!
What I love about TAP aside from its premise and story is that it’s a European podcast. It feels inherently European rather than English or French or contained to any one nationality. And this comes through quite early on and very strongly. I love that! The characters are fun, whimsical and quirky. The premise has its charme and it has a “case of the week” feeling to it even while the overarching story picks up weight. There’s really a lot I like about it.
Like, I only got into TSP and WTSF because I was antsy for Amelia Project to update again. (Sorry, no offence.) Which doesn’t change the fact that I wholeheartedly recommend WTSF and TSP. (And maybe you can get into other podcasts from the Rusty Quill Network or Fable & Folly Network; I just couldn’t yet because they didn’t really catch my interest as much.)
For WTSF, huh… I don’t know which episode I would point you towards there, best start from the beginning. Although WTSF Episode 7 is a good hook, probably. It’s a bit ‘Good Omens’-esque and very fun, even though I occasionally need the transcripts pulled up to catch everything.
And TSP was supposed to be an anthology, I think, but it very very quickly devolved into a solid storyline so best to just start with the first episode and binge a few. The story will start puzzling together and making sense.

I have now listened to two horror audio dramas where the main character has made me audibly go “uhhh, buddy, are you sure that’s a good idea?”
which isn’t a lot but still funny that it’s happened twice

Gentle reminder that when you talk about podcasts on the Rusty Quill network, remember that the shows are created and produced by independent groups, not RQ themselves. The network is a great tool to uplift these smaller creators, so as listeners, let’s do our part in supporting them as well!
