Gentle reminder that when you talk about podcasts on the Rusty Quill network, remember that the shows are created and produced by independent groups, not RQ themselves. The network is a great tool to uplift these smaller creators, so as listeners, let’s do our part in supporting them as well!

Watching the documentary on Netflix on Academy Ivy Ridge is wild. Not just the obvious. But I remember years ago posts on here about it!! I remember reading about these horrible things where these kids my age were fucking kidnapped and brought to these places. And then I never heard about it again!! So I am just now starting the first episode. I have so much respect for the people who had to survive that shit, and then had the strength to go after them and make this documentary and shit.

Just a disclaimer for anyone who's planning on watching the Program; the documentary about Ivy Ridge.
If you have religious trauma, a lot of the stuff performed at Ivy Ridge is very similar to a lot of the stuff in youth groups or church camps. Not to the extent of Ivy Ridge because oftentimes only the "good, god-fearing kids" went to church camp but a lot of the brain-washing stuff is very similar to the stuff used in evangelical programs so that could be a lot to process if you are just beginning in your journey of deconstructing all the stuff that happened to you in evangelical spaces.

REVEALED: Obamas WERE On Martha's Vineyard When Chef Mysteriously Drowned in their POND: 8 feet of water
In a turn of events, it has been confirmed that former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, were indeed present on Martha’s Vineyard when their personal chef, Tafari Campbell, tragically drowned under mysterious circumstances. The Obamas, who own a massive house on the island, initially reported through their office that they were not at the residence when the incident occurred.
However, the narrative has since been changed, stating that while they were on the island, they were not at their residence at the time of Campbell’s unfortunate demise.
Campbell, 45, was discovered dead on Monday by divers after he went missing in the Edgartown Great Pond, Massachusetts. Campbell had been paddle boarding with another individual around 7:40 pm on Sunday. Eyewitnesses reported that he was dressed entirely in black and was not wearing a life preserver, a detail that has added to the mystery surrounding his death.
The DailyMail wrote:
Initially, the Obamas’ office said they were not home.
Their office clarified on Monday that they were on the island, just not at the residence when Campbell drowned.
The circumstances leading to Campbell’s death remain unclear, and an autopsy is expected to take place. As part of the investigation, a toxicology analysis will also be conducted, which is a standard procedure in drowning cases.
Campbell had a long-standing relationship with the Obama family. He served as a sous chef at the White House during the Obama administration and continued to work privately for the family after they left office.
Adding another layer to the mystery surrounding Campbell’s death is the fact that he had taken swimming lessons as recently as 2019. Reports have led to further speculation and questions about the circumstances of his death.
Campbell’s Instagram ‘Fitness’ highlight showed his dedication to maintaining his health, showcasing him swimming backstroke, freestyle swimming, logging a 40-minute swim workout on his Apple watch, and even bench pressing 315 pounds.
WATCH:
Campbell’s wife, Sherise, released a heartfelt statement on Instagram mourning the loss of her husband. She wrote, “My heart is broken. My life and our family’s life is forever changed. Please pray for me and our families as I deal with the loss of my husband.” The couple were parents to twin 19-year-old sons.
The staff at Edgartown Meat and Fish Market, where Campbell was a regular, also paid tribute to the chef, whom they remembered as a ‘wonderful guy’. “We saw him last week, he was such a nice and happy guy,” one staff member shared, adding that Campbell had been a customer for a few years and would often chat about what he was cooking.
Barack Obama's Chicago Man Country Friends:
November 17, 2007 Larry Bland shot and killed in his own home
December 24, 2007 Donald Young shot and killed execution style in his own apartment
December 26, 2007 Nate Spencer died in Chicago Hospital (AIDS)
November 14, 2011 Larry Sinclair, Obama's CHICAGO 1999 Bathhouse & cocaine prostitute involved in hit and run car incident
In 2008 Beau Biden & Joe Biden arranged to have Sinclair arrested for telling the Washington, DC National Press Club about his gay love affair and cocaine use with Senator Obama.

wasn’t going to speak on this due to legal reasons but since i’ve now been contacted by the rest of the survivors from the series & more, we all deserve to speak up about what we went through & everything that was happening to us while we were part of the program. it is completely mind-blowing that all of this is finally coming to light, especially this way. i still have my journal & everything written down from day 1 i was there, until the day i escaped. apparently i hold the record for the only student, internationally, who was ever able to successfully escape the program alive. ❤️‍🩹🫥 finally justice for us!!!

this is a PSA for anyone who likes cool sci-fi shit and/or podcasts: go listen to The Program Audio Series asap!!! i do need to give content warnings for unreality throughout the series, so tread with caution if that’s something that bothers you, but it’s seriously such a banger and i don’t see anyone talking about it. (also, if you’ve heard of/are a fan of The Magnus Archives, this podcast is also from the Rusty Quill Network. Different genre from TMA, but equally quality content imo)

Hey I haven't said this in a while but You should listen to The Program.
It is an absolutely incredible audio series that I can't put into a single genre (simply because their episodes just cover so many) that has captivated me completely. Science Unfiction in a glorious set of several deliciously crafted thought experiments and stories that when woven together creates an absolutely mind bogglingly large tapestry of world building and narration of the universe that its in.
I legitimately can't say my praises enough for The Program, and I'm actually planning on listening to it a second time to snag any wayward details I could have missed.

Nick: Walking out out on that stage for the first time is a feeling like no other. I wake up and pinch myself everyday that I'm a Jonas brother
Tumblr media
Joe: When I first step on stage it feels like the shot of adrenaline you feel when a roller coaster takes off next with the emotion you get from watching any Tom Hanks film and feel like you're about to cry
Tumblr media
Kevin: What does it feel like when you step out onto stage? Its completely euphoric. I feel the noise of the crowd become completely silent. The lights from the flushes light up the stage and all you can feel is you own heart but, then you feel the pulse of the audience like a wave crashing over the ocean, and then the entire world comes to life.

478. 93 things about 1993, part 2
Tumblr media
(part 1)
Tumblr media
7. The Buffalo Bills lose their third Super Bowl in a row.
Tumblr media
8. The Red Shoes loses $8 million on broadway (12/19)
I don't know much about Broadway shows, but I tried watching some clips from what I'm guessing was the press reel? and (this is just me) the performances looked so stiff. I got straight up Balki vibes from George de La Pena.
The day the reviews were published, box-office sales dwindled to $20,000, Mr. Starger said, a death knell for a show that cost more than $400,000 a week to run. It might have lost $200,000 to $300,000, he said, if he had kept it open another week and invited the Tony voters, fulfilling the award requirements, and it would have taken an infusion of $1.5 million to allow the show to run through January, thus giving it a chance, however slim, to go on. He decided not to take it.

9. The Mega Mac (April)
Anybody else think it wasn't a coincidence that McDonalds tested this large burger in Washington D.C. -- where former McDonalds lover President Bill Clinton had just moved to? Were they trolling ol Bill?
That burger doesn't even look that big now.

10. People killed while copying The Program (October)
Michael A. Shingledecker Jr., 18, of Polk, Pa., was killed almost instantly about 1 A.M. Saturday when he and a friend were struck by a pickup truck while lying on a two-lane highway in Polk, a small borough in western Pennsylvania. His friend, Dean G. Bartlett, 17, was critically injured. And Michael Macias, 17, of Syosset, L.I., was critically injured when he was hit by a car at 10:40 P.M. Saturday as he lay in the middle of Bayville Avenue in Bayville.
Law-enforcement authorities and family members said the teen-agers were apparently copying the daredevil stunt from "The Program," in which the college football hero shows how tough he is by lying down in the middle of a busy highway as cars and trucks whiz by in the dark. There are fears that scores of other young men are copying the stunt. 2
A few days later:
The Walt Disney Company said today that it would delete a scene in its new movie "The Program" after one teen-ager was killed and two others critically injured while apparently imitating the scene.
The brief sequence near the film's start involves several drunken college football players lying in the middle of a busy road to prove their toughness. The scene will be removed by Friday, Disney said today, and the film's coming attractions trailer will be pulled.
[...]
"While the scene in the movie in no way advocates this irresponsible activity, it is impossible for us to ignore that someone may have recklessly chosen to imitate it," the film's writer and director, David Ward, said in a statement released along with Touchstone Pictures, the division of Disney that released the film. "In light of the incidents reported, we are deleting the scene from the movie."
The movie is playing in about 1,220 theaters and was the nation's 12th-most popular release last weekend. 3

11. Major advertisers turn their back on NYPD Blue
So, remember when NYPD Blue premiered and there was a huge controversy on how violent and graphic it was
...
Tumblr media
and how Dennis Franz showed his butt in the shower or something? (source)
Some ABC stations wouldn't air it, (including my local ABC station which is something I didn't know until just now! 4) Major advertisers refused to buy commercial time during the show:
And while each episode of the series has been fully sponsored, at prices averaging around $115,000 for a 30-second spot, almost all the commercials so far were bought by marketers of over-the-counter drugs and film distributors, which are far less susceptible to complaints over program content, because they are much more interested in quick mass-market impressions.
Many spots are for products that are far from household names: Permathene-12 diet aid, Wash 'n Curl shampoo, Cortizone-10 anti-itch cream. But those advertisers on the show seem satisfied. 5
I found a commercial break, and sure enough it felt more like a day time talk show commercial break instead of one for a major television program. I know people don't really pay attention to commercial breaks, but you could really tell a difference.

OH. I thought it was kind of funny that Caruso bought an ad for their curler system. Get it? David Caruso?

The program by Suzanne young is a 6 book series I’ve never talked about. It was split into three parts if I remember correctly. You had present past and future. It’s a weird dystopian future book where suicide is even worse than it is now that even if you are a little depressed you get shipped away (spoilers ahead) and basically brainwashed (they erase your memory) and drug you to hell and back.
And it was really interesting and confusing. It brought up, I think, important ideas and ethical issues we should talk about. But it was also really weird and for being so much about suicide and depression I feel like it occasionally didn’t handle the subjects well. (I could be wrong I read them like 4 years ago.
But I was just curious if anyone else has read them
