Mae: Maman! Maman!

Raina: Hi darling! Did you have a fun time at Auntie Gwen's?

Mae: Yah! Yah!

Raina: You alright? You look…. Tense.

Cordy: [hmmf!] I'll tell you about it when we put Mae to bed.

Raina: … Ok, but then you need to cheer up until then.

Cordy: [smiles in spite of herself] I suppose I can do that.

Cordy: AND he had the fucking NERVE to say I was being unreasonable!! As if LYING to me for months about something like this isn't unreasonable!

Raina: Hmm. [sighs] You're not gonna like what I have to say.

Cordy: Don't tell me you're on his side!

Raina: I kind of am. If I died tomorrow, I wouldn't want you to live the rest of your days alone.

Cordy: Don't talk that way.

Raina: But do you understand what I mean?

Cordy: [sniffles, says nothing]

Raina: Surely you knew this could happen, right?

Cordy: Why should it!?

Raina: I mean… Sure your Dad is older, but not dead. Didn't your parents only stop having kids because he got a vasectomy?

Cordy: Don't even say it-

Raina: He's got needs Cordy! Clearly!

Cordy: UGH!!

Raina: Just think about it a little.

Cordy: I'd REALLY rather not.

Raina: Oh not that part, just the rest of what I said. And what he told you. Now come to bed at a reasonable time.

Cordy: Fine.

Here are some photos of one of my sims families! I'm currently on gen 2. I want to start posting about them on here, too!

The first two photos are of my founder, Myra Steele! This was originally going to be a playthrough of the Family Dynamics challenge, but when I got to generation two, I decided I wanted to take it in a different direction lol.

The next couple of photos are of Myra's daughters Imogen (the one with blonde hair) and Serena (the one with auburn hair). The next two are of Imogen during her time at Foxbury, where she graduated with honors! And the last one is a picture taken during her wedding ceremony (happy valentines day btw 🥰)

My Adventures with Superman brings Hope back to the Man of Steel - REVIEW Ep 1 & 2

*Spoilers for the first two episodes, now streaming on Max!*

Growing up, Superman always came off to me as a very nothing character. White bread. Good for the sake of good. Not funny like Spider-Man, not dark and cool like Batman, and too powerful to be in any real danger.

He was just there as the original cape and tights. He was important because he did it first, but that didn't make him interesting.

As I got older, and I read and saw him in more media, I realized the fun of Superman comes from the kindness. The hope he brings to those around him and that stable positive force is essential to the world and the Justice League. While he is the most powerful person in the room, because of who Clark is and his values, he's the person you fear the least.

He's gonna save your cat, he's gonna stop that burning building, and he's gonna get the bad guy, as unharmed as possible.

This is where the DCEU lost me, and where I think most Superman content does. That hope, that kindness, the gentle giant that Clark is has somehow been lost in translation.

While Henry Cavill is a great actor and can play the hopeful side, setting the tone of the movies as so dark and serious drained Superman of his charm.

Superman and Lois has done a good job bringing Clark's hopefulness back in moments, but the Zack Snyder DCEU feel coupled with the CW drama still keeps Superman and Lois pretty dark and dire.

While Hoechlin is a fantastic Superman, the world he inhabits has kept me wanting a true representation of the character I love.

Which is why My Adventures with Superman is such a breath of fresh air.

Let's start with Jack Quaid. Using such a pure sounding soul like Quaid to embody Clark was a stroke of genius. While he is known for playing good-ish characters like Hughie in The Boys and Peter Parker/ The Lizard in Across the Spider-Verse, Quaid does not coast on his past charms for Clark.

This character equally feels fresh, different from Quaid's past characters, and like a kid who is transitioning into the Man of Steel.

Whether he is struggling to flirt, scold Lois for lying, or fight a robot, Clark feels genuine, kind, and strong.

As Superman, Clark does not change into a scary, super powered god. Instead, he is trying to help the bad guy, clean up the messes, and rescue kittens from trees. While we only get a glimpse of his true Superman form at the end of episode 2, it is enough for me to get so excited that I'm typing this all out. This is the Superman I've been waiting for!

Rounding out the cast are Alice Lee and Ishmel Sahid as Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen.

Lee has a quality not always perfectly emulated for Lois in my opinion, which is spunk. Moxie. She is so clearly the leader of the team for the Daily Planet. Couple that with her comedy timing and clear chemistry with Quaid, this may be the blueprint for Clark and Lois in the future.

While usually Lois is a made journalist by the time Clark shows up, starting them at equal footing is an interesting development. I'm hoping they use this to show just how quickly Lois Lane can rise the ranks against others.

While Sahid is utilized the least so far, conspiracy theorist comic relief Jimmy is equally charismatic and likable. He is a character I think the DCEU and CW didn't quite understand the value of, but this show clearly does. My hope is this character goes on to go on as wacky adventures as he does in the comics.

The chemistry between the three characters is very strong for the first couple of episodes. So much so I don't know if I'm more excited for more Lois and Clark romance, Clark and Jimmy bafoonery, or Lois and Jimmy investigating.

While the villains leave something to be desired in the first two episodes, the inclusion of overarching villains Deathstroke, Amanda Waller and General Lane lead me to believe they hope to build out this universe, at the very least into Batman.

If that is true, I am so in.

I can see a world where we have 3-4 different anime shows introducing key members of the Justice League, all leading up to an anime style movie where they fight Brainiac, with Jack Quaid's Superman at the center of it.

But perhaps I am getting way ahead of myself.

All in all, My Adventures with Superman has me excited for Fridays to come. It has heart, it has comedy, and it seems to understand the Last Son of Krypton better than most pieces of media.

This should be the blueprint for Superman Legacy.

A Superman who brings donuts for all his coworkers.

Joy: I'm so glad you all could come! This was lovely, what are you doing next weekend?

Cordy: Oh! It's time for the annual Steele Family portrait! [laughs] I've been coordinating getting everyone in the same place for months! Getting Ollie in town is the hardest.

Jamali: [!!!] Ollie Steele!?! Could I meet him!?

Cordy: Sure! He's interested to meet you all of course. How about you come with? You can be in the photo!

Arturo: [quietly] Really?

Joy: Oh that's so kind of you! But we wouldn't want to intrude-

Mae: Momma! Momma!!!

Cordy: It wouldn't be an intrusion.

Eli: I think we should, Mom.

[sounds of surprise and confusion around the table]

Joy: Really? You do?

Eli: Yeah, I think we could use some new family photos around the house. Plus if this next part goes right.... Amina?

Amina: [???]

Eli: One of the last things I did with my dad was pick this out for you. And I know I should have asked so much sooner… But when he died I just got so scared. I know how patient you've been with me, and I just hope this isn't too late. Amina, I love you. I want to spend as long as we've got together. Will you marry me?

Amina: [laughs] Finally! Of course I will! I love you too.

Whenever I think about your Keir I think about Bethany telling Anders he reminds her of Malcom. I’m sure that won’t ever affect Keir ever.

bethany is my favourite mage bc she never misses with that psychic damage

but really he and anders aren’t even a thing in act 1 so it’s less like “PLEASE stop comparing my crush to our father” and more like “oh fuck off i spend my entire life trying to act like our dad and one (1) mage rolls up and suddenly he’s dad??”

#the bethany anders keir weirdness about malcolm is so real #because bethany says ‘you remind me of him (generally positive)’ in act 1 #but in later acts i think she’s still seeing the same thing just with a different uhhh mindset #seeing the way her dad wanted her to be something she wasnt and strive for something she was never sure was worth the sacrifice #how he tried to make decisions about what was best for other people. how he risked lives etc #whereas anders also has his own perception of malcolm which i think is quite... idealised #it means a lot to him that a mage raised a family that loved him. and hes envious of it #but thats definitely a standard anders is making up. if anders and malcolm really met we’d have to cast a barrier between them within five #minutes. for their own safety.#whereas keir in some ways saw a more complete version of his father from the beginning #but he also believes those more uhh flawed abrasive damaging sides are necessary. of course he does he repeats them #his father may not have been the easiest man in the world to live with but he always did what he had to #and kept his word and held himself to the same standards as others #but oh wait here’s the legacy dlc with the steel chair—#anyway my point being that u get these 3 in a room and theyre talking abt 3 entirely different malcolms. carnage #i dont think it would naturally occur to keir to compare anders to malcolm #but hed be like. ‘i GUESS?’ when bethany said it #honestly anders one of the things that’s kind of disillusioning abt malcolm bc like #i mean say what you like about my man anders but he was never all talk #not to dismiss the courage it took for malcolm to escape & raise a family #but thats one thing. insisting on using your abilities to help people & to go BACK for those still in the circle is kind of another #a lot of dialogue implying malcolm talked a big game about mage rights #but apart from raising a daughter who hates herself what did he actually do.#sorry thats mean but you see my point #and its not just justice that makes anders like that. sure he was more scared and hopeless about the circle #but his instincts are to help. you wouldnt catch malcolm going back to help against darkspawn even when told to run #and my malcolms also. gruff. stoic. serious. a man of few words. he does not do bits or tell you about his cat #if keir hears bethany compare anders to malcolm and at all agrees it’s not really anything about personality #he’s saying yeah i guess anders does seem like a good mage and a good man. thats the only commonality he would jump to #these tags got incredibly away from me

One thing that bugs me about most Superman movies is how they all tend to place too much emphasis on Superman being this divine saviour sent from above to guide and protect humanity, a duty bestowed upon him by his heavenly father.

It started with a few lines in Superman '78, which Superman Returns picked up on, and then Man of Steel just went all in on, going out of its way to frame being Superman as the cross Clark has to bear.

I really hope Superman Legacy ditches all of that and just has Superman be a nice guy with powers who wants to help people.
