Painting.

Hi everyone, I'm behind schedule and my inbox looks like this:

I'm clearing my asks, turning them off, and doing nothing but work and will post nothing except direct posts about my work. I'm under a lot of pressure and need to focus.

One more final comment answer.

Someone seemed to be upset about my method of painting the Good Omens art. I thought it was a strange comment, so looked at their feed. All the cartoons they displayed were made in flat color or with the common digital color style that looks like a slick metallic airbrush finish. Which is fine.

But obviously, I chose not to do that on Good Omens.

The painting on Good Omens is more rendered and uses more color variance because I like painterly effects.

I could make everything look slick or flat, and it would take less time. But I want my art to look painterly.

*trips and another fiction podcast falls out of my pocket*

hello, it is I, Lauren Shippen, maker of many audio dramas, including the daily @breakerwhiskey. after having so much fun doing that podcast every weekday, I thought "what would be the opposite of doing a daily podcast?" and here we are, with a yearly one. New Year's Day is a yearly podcast about what to make of your life when you live forever and is a collaboration between me and my dear friends Andrew Nowak and Briggon Snow (who you may know from @thebrightsessions). here's the elevator pitch:

Every thirteen years, two old rivals meet on New Year’s Day to discuss their lives in the intervening decade. They lead separate lives but share one earth-shattering secret: they’re both immortal.

new episodes will come out every january 1st - for this first jan 1, we released 3 episodes, so that the main story could get underway, but moving forward it will be only one a year! which is a real change for me obviously! and will certainly be an interesting challenge from a storytelling and audience building standpoint.

on a personal note, this show is a continuation of what I've been trying to do with @breakerwhiskey and what I hope to do with @maxinemilespod later this year, which is to independently produce fiction podcasts. I could go on and on about how tough 2023 was on audio drama - and independent art in general - but suffice to say, having a career as an independent artist is hard. we're making this show - as with @breakerwhiskey - for the sheer love of it, and we hope you love it too.

Once again, that’s Whiskey Alpha Romeo, currently along I-80. 

[click, static] Breaker, breaker. [click, static]

You know, I just realized how bad those initials are, but that’s the rule right? W for east of the Mississippi, which–isn’t that a bit backward? Shouldn’t it be W for West? Anyway, W for east of the Mississippi plus the initials of your name– but I mean, still, WAR is a bit…Whiskey, I guess is okay. Though that’d be the part of the call sign that everybody in this area has, so…not really specific. 

Then again, it doesn’t seem like anyone is here – no other W-call signs to mix me up with. So if you are listening somehow, Whiskey is…fine. 

I don’t have a number? I don’t technically have any kind of license either, but who would be giving them out, right? I mean, in that case, I guess trying to stick to any kind of convention is sort of pointless at this juncture, so I could’ve picked any old name… 

But, I mean, we all have to hold on to whatever bit of structure we can to stay sane, right?

And I don’t know, I have the pamphlet for this thing and it feels like I should follow it to the letter. 

You know, this thing has been sitting in our garage for five years and this is the first time we’ve sent a signal out? I mean, we’re remote, yeah, but that doesn’t mean we couldn’t’ve–

Sorry, not we. The first time I’ve sent a signal out, though Lord knows she never did either. And never will, I mean, I doubt she’ll even notice this is gone, I doubt she’ll miss it, I doubt she’ll miss–

Anyway, here I am, clogging up the airwaves. I think that’s bad etiquette. But if no one is listening, there’s no one to offend.
