Sonic Colors’ story is good, actually...(mostly)

Ok, this is a take that’s probably gonna get me torn to shreds by the Sonic fandom, but I’ve had this stored away for years. There is...discourse in Sonic fandom about how this series has handled its attempts at story. These range from inconsistent tone, lack of continuity, characters getting flanderised or just becoming whatever the plot needs them to be in each game. But some of the most controversy comes from the more recent games from 2010 onwards. Mostly because it’s the point when people spotted a really noticable simplicification, a larger focus on humour, and less of the series’ extended cast. A common argument is that the series gave into bad faith criticism and threw away its own identity. And one game that gets caught up in this discussion is the one that (depending on who you ask) started that trend. Sonic Colors.

The game recieved critical praise and strong sales when it came out. But the conversation around it has shifted somewhat. There’s a lot of factors that come with this. The fact that opinions surrounding around any piece of media will inevitably get more nuanced  with time as more voices join in for one thing. And also the fact that context can affect how a game is viewed. As a result, Colors gets a fair bit more flack from parts of the fandom nowadays. Some of these I agree with, and some I don’t. But I don’t have time to write a full comprehensive review of Colors, so I’m just going to focus on one part I think deserves a second look: the story. First, as this is also a talking point in Sonic fandom, let me lay down my stance on story in Sonic in general. I admire that the series is generally more committed to narrative than your average platformer. The fun characters and hype moments are really good at capturing a kid’s imagination. And when these game hit, they hit.

That being said, I do think the series’ attempts at storytelling are deeply flawed with a lot of missed potential and those slam dunks don’t happen very often. The tone shifts on a dime with each installment, continuity, which was always dubious at best, basically stopped mattering at some point in the mid 2000s and the series never looked back. And while you do get some nice character arcs, they rarely stick game to game (see Tails and Amy losing any Adventure game development by Heroes or the slow burn character assassination that is evey post SA2 Shadow appearance). Heck, Adventure 2 is my favourite story in the series and I still think it gets really muddled from trying to cram WAY too much story into such a short game, which is admiable ambition, but still... My point is that while I absolutely want Sonic to do better in terms of story, I know that, in terms of games at least, it’s rarely gonna rise beyond ‘harmless kids’ story with some legitimately cool aspects and interesting ideas in it’. If it can give me a fun time where I can watch my favourite characters interact and feel like themselves, I’m satisfied. And while you can go after the writing of Lost World and Forces all you like and I certainly won’t stop you, I’ve never been one to tarnish Colors with the same brush. In fact, I think there’s some good stuff buried here, and I’m gonna go into why.  For starters, I think the game’s premise is really solid. It’s definitely basic. Eggman builds an amusement park in space. Sonic and Tails suspect foul play. Sure enough, Eggman’s harvesting aliens as a power source. Go stop him. But, simple as it may be, I actualy think this is neat. Sonic is no stranger to nostalgic pandering, and chucking in homages to its glory days at the drop of a hat. In many ways, Colors is effectively a Classic Sonic storyline. It beings back the subtle bit of environmentalism that kind of faded from the series over time. Sonic was always about saving the environment from an evil industrialist who wants to turn nature into his personal weaponry depot, and Colors brings that back into sharp focus. But it doesn’t just do this by wheeling out Green Hill for the umpteenth time. Instead, it places it in a new context, one that can allow for some of the most gorgeous environments in the whole series.

In fact, the whole, ‘Eggman attempts to industrialise an alien planet’ reminds me of Sonic CD, another game that put a fresh twist on the Classic story formula through the use of time travel. And like CD, Colors has some really solid visual storytelling. Going through the stunning, imaginative environments of Sweet Mountain or Starlight Carnival only to get to Planet Wisp and see how much destruction Eggman has wrought to do this is really effective. Colors bring back an aspect of the series that had started to get forgotten over time, but in a way that still feels fresh and creative.

Colors’ story is lighter and simpler than past entries, but I think it works with what Colors is going for. To me, more than any game in the series, Colors is ‘Good Vibes: The Game’. It wants to show you gorgeous vistas, make you laugh a little, and unwind with the characters you like. A lack of urgency can be a nice refresher once in a while. Again, I like more dramatic plots in Sonic but the series’ clunkier attempts to tell them (particularly Shadow and ‘06) were still looming large in the public consciousness in 2010. I think something fun and feel-good with these beloved characters was what the series needed at the time. Speaking of characters, let’s get to them, shall we? Well admittedly there aren’t many this time around, at least in the console version (and yes, I’m sticking to that version since I have more experience with it and this post is long enough as it is). It’s really just Sonic, Tails, Eggman, Orbot (Eggman’s lacky from Unleashed) and newcomer second lacky, Cubot. Now, nuclear take for y’all....

Sonic and Tails’ friendship is arguably the best it’s ever been in Colors (at least as far as the games go). I really like the sibling esque friendship between Sonic and Tails in the series. It’s always so charming to see how in synch they come across when you get to play as them both in stuff like 2 or Advance 3. And whenever the series properly digs into Sonic’s trust in Tails’ or Tails’ admiration for his big bro, it’s a delight. That being said...the series doesn’t really do that very often. Sometimes I feel like Sonic characters run into the Kingdom Hearts issue of plot overpowering the characters instead of the two working in harmony. Sonic and Tails rarely slow down to have moments of genuine character interaction because it’s always a case of ‘hurry, Sonic! We have to race off to the next level now!’ It’s like there’s no time for the cast to have breathing room. And then there’s Colors. Yes, Sonic and Tails don’t seem very threatened by Eggman’s plan, and a lot of cutscenes are just them bantering back and forth. And while some more substance and urgency would be good...isn’t it kinda nice to just let these characters just exist and see their dynamic? And it’s a good dynamic, too. Sonic is cocky and excited to be here. He’s here to kick ass, take names, and mouth off to his enemies. So the fact that his enemies here are all robots whom he can’t get a rise out of, which gets him visibly annoyed is a cute character trait. And I like that Tails isn’t above gently poking at Sonic. He respects him, but he also knows he’s the smarter of the two, and doesn’t mind gently pointing out when Sonic’s ego goes to his head. He loves spending time with him but he’s not fawning over him. And I like that. And that little moment of Sonic pushing Tails into the elevator to save him is a short, effective bit of characterisation that shows that Sonic will come through for Tails, even if he puts up an unflappable facade and acts like stuff doesn’t bother him. This was Roger Craig Smith and Kate Higgens’ first mainline game (unless you count Free Riders) voicing these characters, and I think they both do a good job. And on the Japanese side of the voice cast, Junichi Kanemaru and Ryo Hirohashi are as great as ever.

Look, I’m not saying Colors’ story is high art. It definitely has its problems. And one of the biggest sticking points for a lot of people is the English localisation, which ups the emphasis on humour and adds in tons of extra jokes. Now, I’m personallly of the opinion that Ken Pontac and Warren Graff get a little too much vitriol for their role in the English scripts. I may not love their contributions but they did not ruin the series by any stretch. Trust me, I’ve seen Forces’ Japanese cutscenes. It’s still dumb, rushed and boring without their input. At the same time, I do have my critcisms. To me, their work on Sonic comes across as two writers who just are visibly out of their comfort zone. Their background is much more in adult oriented comedy like Madworld or Happy Tree Friends, so they now have to tone themselves down for a much younger audience and while getting themselves used to a series they admitted they weren’t super familiar with prior. Again, I wouldn’t say I love their English scripts by any stetch. To me, their scripts kind of run into the Yu-Gi-Oh GX dub problem where they’re too overly comedic to faithfully recreate the Japanese, but not out-there enough to be a fun gag dub, so it’s just an awkward middle ground. But I think they get blamed for a lot of the choices of Sega of Japan, that aren’t really their fault. With all that said, I think their script for Colors is...actually fine. It’s probably my favouite of theirs that they’ve done. I’d take it over Lost World any day to be sure. The jokes are certainly a mixed bag and feel like they’re playing it safe going for a very young demographic. But they’re inoffensive at worst, and, while humour is subjective, I like enough of the jokes to have a good time and shrug off the groaners. Eggman’s PA announcements are easily the highlight. Partially because Mike Pollock is killing it with his delivery, and partly because, with how focused they are on the theme park’s highly unregulated, death-trap level ‘attractions’ (to the point that I feel Eggman would have been sued into the ground if Sonic hadn’t bothered to stop him) they lean into slightly darker humour which I think is Pontaff’s strength. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17MwXZN6ZJI Seriously, go listen to these then come back. The comedy is definitely mixed, but there are some real wins in there, and I find it mostly works with the game’s very feel-good, low-key premise. That may not be what I want for Sonic all the time, and it absolutely got more obnoxious in later entries. But I think it works in Colors, specifically.    My other gripe is the climax, because the game kind of has two hooks for it, neither of which are super fleshed out. The mind control ray and the Nega Wisps. And I think the latter is way more interesting. It’s like a creepy alternate take on Badniks, instead of converting animals into machines, Eggman is mutating them into monsters. The mind control ray, meanwhile, is kinda generic and sort of solves itself by the end. I’d have cut it and made the Nega Wisps the focus of the story’s second half. And I still maintain that the DS version proves the other characters could have been included without cluttering up the plot too much and they honestly should have been.

At the end of the day, Sonic Colors is a good game, and its story is, at least to me, fun. It gives me what I want out of a Sonic game story: A chance to watch my favourite characters bounce off each other and watch them save the environment from the funny-but-still-evil scientist. All amidst some of the prettiest locations and most pleasant vibes in this entire series. Sure, it’s not the character-driven hype train of SA2 or the unexpectedly heartfelt adventure of Black Knight, but maybe I want a lower-key change of pace once in a while. Maybe I like watching these characters have fun and letting the dynamics write themselves rather than stringing them along hastily to the next plot thread. Nonetheless, Colors is just a video game. One you’re allowed to like or not like. But I feel that, much like the Adventure games were at times unfairly blamed for the stumblings of certain folow ups, Colors draws ire purely because other games tried to ape its success and failed. I’m not gonna scream that Colors secretly sucked just because Lost World and Forces were disappointments, and that goes for gameplay and story, just like I won’t turn around and say Adventure 1 was garbage just because ‘06 exists. Like many Sonic fans, I’m hoping that Fronters will not only play well, but will push the boat out more and make more use of the world and characters of Sonic. But regardless of that, whatever issues Sonic may have encountered before or after it, Colors is still a win for the series in my book, and one of several.

Fates Reexploration Part 2: Down the (rabbit) hole

And we are back folks. This one is a bit on the shorter side, since not too much happens, but I am already pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoy this.

I absolutely love this shot of the Nohrian capital. You can immediately tell so much about this place. Perfect mood setter and extension of the lore found in this game. You look at this and know immediately that it’s not a very pleasant place to live. The castle is literally dug into the ground, while shaped like a colliseum. 

Man, I really wish 3 Houses had done this with the capitals. Would have helped make the cultures feel more distinct. Imagine Deirdriu giving everyone Venice vibes, Enbarr being full of ancient buildings and bombastic architecture, Fhirdiad covered in glittery snow... Ah, what a shame.

Fun fact! Garon is voiced in Japanese by Akio Ohtsuka, the same guy who voices Ansem (and a lot of his various knock offs) in Kingdom Hearts. So every time one of his voice clips plays, all I hear is “KINGUDOMU HAATSU YO” 

This is kinda interesting. He says “... Us royalty, as those who have inherited the blood of the ancient gods, the “Divine Ancestral Dragons”, are the descendants of gods.” (he says gods a lot in this), which is interesting in that it subtly refers to the Nohrians (and Hoshidans) not being actualy related to dragons, but rather just having received their blood ages ago. (like what happens in that one Hydra/Anankos dlc)

The English didn’t use that and only made a vague statement about having the dragons’ strength after the initial “We are their descendants etc.), which isn’t quite such a neat nod.

This isn’t a translation note (it’s mostly the same in English). I just never noticed Touma being hinted at this early.

I do like how this scene builds up the sheer grip Garon has on everyone invovled here. They simply cannot afford to defy him and it takes a huge amount of drama and deception to get out of this situation. This especially nicely contrasts with Xander being the confident older brother before this, whereas now he is almost helpless.

Another one of Leon’s more common expressions. まったく (mattaku), essentially a (formalish) expression of exasperation (usually). Miyano really is good at making him sound so annoyed and done with everything. 

That ナイス at the end is Elise literally saying the English word “Nice.” in katakana. Elise uses English loan words occasionally to make her dialogue sound more peppy and carefree.

Anyway, yeah that’s about it for today. I hope I have more to talk about next time. Maybe I’ll start merging chapters together until I get to the route split.

Because I’m a hypocrite myself! I originally wanted to name myself a hypo.critical not only for my obvious characteristic but also because prefix ‘‘hypo’’ usually means low, and critical as a short for critical thinking so it means I’m not only a hypocrite but I also lack critical thinking which got me into troubles multiple times, heh.

I also considered to change it to something like ‘‘frankenstein’s sparrow’’ a first month I arrived here because I like the sparrow bird symbolicity in the Frankenstein musical but then I let it be :p

I never queued up a post! I am scared to let this site to post my post when I don’t expect it, I find something nice in posting stuff myself, it just feels more personal for me I think.

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?

Ooh, a long story. I’ve been a fan of Frankenstein musical and J&H musical and patiently waited on YouTube for any fandom activity, like animatics, videos and comments. After a while I noticed that many of those channels have their own Tumblr page. I think that @dragonheadskilax’es blog was the first one I found out about and I remember I went to Tumblr each day just to see if he posted something! I discovered other J&H musical blogs and also infamous brightgoat’s blog and after two months of visiting those blogs everyday without an account I decided to make one just to follow those people. So I did :)

6. Why did you choose your icon/pfp?

I used to like pigeons and sparrows and I also wanted something small in my pfp to symbolize my faith and so I found this pic on Pinterest and that’s it! I had a very simmilar pic on my YouTube account and on my Wattpad account (now inactive!) so I took that picture, changed the colours a bit and ta-dah! 

7. Why did you choose your header?

It’s a quote from the script of Frankenstein musical and it’s not only funny seeing Victor not yelling but whispering the ‘’It’s alive!’’ quote. Plus, I can’t imagine Hunter Foster delivering this line xD

8. What’s your post with the most notes?

So apparently it’s a ‘’Rainy days in ingolstadt’’ pencil comic I did not very long ago. Which I’m delighted for but also: how can have a lazy clervalstein comic I did in like 20 minutes have most notes than those posts of talented and more skilled arists? Seriously, 107 notes is too much considered how beautifully can other people draw, much better than me! But thank you nevertheless, I’m glad you enjoy my art :3

15th anniversary of our madness!

Yes, you read that right. Today, April 13th 2021, marks the 15th anniversary of when I was crazy enough to bring out the idea of a crazy roundrobin crossover on the Moony Witcher Forum.

When on that day, April 13th 2006, I made a post with the general idea for Mai Dire Fine I never thought I would be starting a saga that would be still ongoing 15 years later.

But here we are, with me and Aelit still working on its latest sequel of sorts, The World without Authors. Compared to back then, our writing skills improved a lot (Mai Dire Fine was not a good story) and, while there’s always more we can still learn, we are proud of our improvement.

So, where are we? We published recently the 10th chapter of The World without Authors, which is currently around 69.000 words – we’re already closing in towards Blank Sprite‘s length (77.000) and that’s just part of the first arc, Scattered Shards. Adding in the previous stories, we’re past 320.000 already.

Even with The World without Authors‘s “all-stars” cast, we still only have a total of five characters from Mai Dire Fine, only three of which (Sergio, Nikki and Kathleen) were part of the main cast as the other two (Faith and Virgilia) were introduced towards the end… well, technically there’s a sixth character, the mysterious “Professor”, but his identity is spoilers as of now. I believe there might be enough hints between The World without Authors and my older behind the scenes post for you to be able to guess his identity already, but the reveal is meant to be a nasty surprise that will set up the second and third arcs, Venezia Immortale and The Dove and the Crow. Yes, we’re planning (well… sort of planning) that far!

But enough of that, let’s head to the celebration specials!

Unfortunately, the Q&A session was a complete failure. We didn’t receive any question by the deadline, but the mailbox is still open! Feel free to ask us anything, we’ll make a Q&A post as soon as the question come in, and we’ll keep it updated every time new questions arrive.

We still have a few more goodies, though. The first is a bit of an experiment on my part, I took one of my early PPC missions, A Very Awkward Exorcism, alongside a couple scenes from the interlude set chronologically just before it, Planes, Guns, Clones and other usual PPC Stuff, and gave them a complete makeover into a comic. Yes, I made what I believe might be the first full PPC mission in comic form! You can download it in PDF format (Trigger warning for rape, contains some partial nudity) here. I hope you’ll enjoy it!

Another thing I made is a special anniversary illustration, in which our characters, and a few we borrowed, from all over our works enjoy some partying. With all the things happening due to the Unravel they deserve some off time, don’t  you think?

Let’s start with the back row, left to right.

First one is Ai Minase, from Koikatu. She has the distinction of being the “adopted canon character” of The World Without Authors – while we have other canons working with Strike Dove, she’s the only one who became part of the main cast on a deep level. While Hayate Yagami, her crew, the Razgriz and Long Caster also work with my main cast, they’re more of external allies. Her dress looks a bit like a tablecloth, but that’s a canon-ish outfit of hers: while she never wears it in her route, it is in her character card in the slot that gets used during dates in normal gameplay.

Next to her we have Keiko Caterina Turbo, Sergio and Nikki’s daughter with her own PPC spinoff, Wings of Canon: Second Strike. She is also the only survivor of the Second Strike cast, having lost Shiro and Saki in the Unravel, and as such the role of representative of her series is all on her. She also doesn’t like skirts, at all, why do you ask?

Then we have Hajime Irene Turbo, Keiko’s half sister/alternate incarnation from the timeline in which Sergio got together with Ami instead. She’s an original The World without Authors character, but still related to characters from my previous works. Fun fact: Keiko and Hajome’s birthday, April 13, in indeed based on the day and month we began Mai Dire Fine. If we consider HQ Standard Time (the PPC’s timeline) to coincide with the real world, they turned two years old today.

Next is Hajime’s mother, Ami Tanegashima. Mentioned first in I don’t like luxury cars to pave her way for her posthumous role in Blank Sprite, we can consider her the representative of my Blank Sprite original characters here. She’s now stuck with the absurdity of not only having a daughter she never thought she could have, but also of said daughter being currently only four years younger than her. Considering Ami’s small frame, there will likely be plenty of times in which she’s mistaken for Hajime’s younger sister… also, now that she’s 20 years old and of drinking age in Japan, she discovered she actually likes alcohol. And can deal with it surprisingly well despite her light build (as opposed to Sergio and Nikki who both can’t hold their liquor)… yes, she had more than a few glasses here. Luckily, she doesn’t drink very often.

Toasting with her is Aya Kibokami, the “fragment” that split off Madoka Kaname at the end of Blank Sprite. As such, she’s here as a representative of canon characters of Blank Sprite. Due to a certain scene of Madoka Magica, in which Madoka expresses a desire to go out drinking with her mother (who really enjoys drinking) once old enough, there is fanon of her eventually developing the same taste for liquor. While we’ll likely never know if the canon Madoka would, Aya is the other heavy drinker of my cast and here is depicted finally having a toast (or two… or a few…) with Ami to celebrate the success of their “Save Sergio and Homura from their spirals of self-destruction by making them defeat Vera and save Madoka together” master plan.

And, of course, fussing over Aya’s excessive drinking we have Kuroko Tenshimi, AKA the “split fragment” of Homura Akemi retaining the memories of the Blank Sprite Incident. While her and Aya haven’t featured yet, they did make it to the Unraveled World. However, I don’t plan on making them part of the main cast yet (in fact, I’m planning to reduce the amount of characters we’re following as the cast is getting too big), and I’m actually considering having them star in their own The World without Authors spinoff, but nothing set in stone yet. Oh, and fun fact about them, they did already have a bit of starring of their own as they were the hosts of the Third PPC HQ Hunger Games. How Nutmeg TV managed to get hold of them for that will forever remain a mistery.

Next, a character very few of you are likely to be familiar with. Nina De Nobili, the title character of the Nina, the child of the Sixth Moon book series. Acting as a representative of the Mai Dire Fine canon characters here, she’s been chosen since, as I said in the past, we started Mai Dire Fine on her author’s forum, and even received encouragement from her to keep writing at one point… despite the fact we were basically butchering her work. However, everyone has to begin somewhere, and Moony Witcher (real name Roberta Rizzo) knew that, so I’m glad she didn’t shoot down our hopes – I might not be here now with a 300.000+ words saga under my belt otherwise. Nina is not planned to reappear in the Unraveled Worlds, as she’s from a series intended for children that wouldn’t mesh well with our current plots.

The little guy sitting over the counter doing karaoke is Conan Edogawa from Detective Conan (anyone insisting on calling the series Case Closed can leave now). He’s again a canon character featured in Mai Dire Fine, but there are plans to involve him and some other characters of his series in the third arc. Also, as you can guess by Nina’s reaction, he’s a terrible, terrible singer.

Leaning on the couch we have Hiro Shirogane, our Gundam pilot. He’s a fully original character created for The World without Authors whose original concept was made by Aelit, although I was the one developing his backstory and relationship with Miksa. I admit that for a while we weren’t too sure about what to do with him, but I hope his current subplot will be enjoyable.

And now, the front row. Leftmost is Hanami, Nikki’s alternate from Kathleen’s alternate timeline (and as such a The World without Authors original). She’s been adopted by the Kinomotos (as she’s also an alternate of Sakura) and is now living with them. Something that debuted in this illustration are the glasses: those are her timeline’s Sergio, and she doesn’t actually have a need for eyesight correction. She had the lenses replaced with fake ones, and wears them due to them being one of the few things she has left of him, though they’re also a good way to differentiate herself from her “sisters”.

Then we have Sakura Kinomoto from Cardcaptor Sakura herself. If we go by name only, her first appearance in my works would be Mai Dire Fine, but that particular Sakura ended up becoming Nikki so it is safe to assume her first appearance was actually in the first mission of Wings of Canon, my main PPC spinoff, titled Don’t Forget The Canon, and she has been confirmed alive in the Unraveled World, in which she is now legally Nikki and Hanami’s younger sister. As in the comic I posted above, her hair is actually lighter than Nikki or Hanami’s as most CCS media have her with a light shade, but Nikki and Hanami both derive from the 1998 anime that had a darker brown as Sakura’s hair color.

Next to Sakura is Syaoran Li from the same series, who instead did appear as himself in Mai Dire Fine. He was badly OOC though, and if the The World without Authors incarnation of him does remember Sergio, things might a bit tense between them at first… though, hopefully, just until he gets explained that no, the “Sakura” Sergio was in love with was actualy Nikki and there’s no need to be jealous.

Then we get to Kathleen Leone. She is not the Mai Dire Fine incarnation of the character, but an alternate made for The World without Authors. Despite that, she started considering the main timeline Sergio as her own brother even before he had to kill her timeline’s, due to the latter’s descent into madness. We haven’t been able to give her much space until now, due to the action being mostly in the air, but that will change soon. I won’t spoiler anything, but Chapter 11 will be a big turning point in the story.

Of course, holding arms with her is Faith Leone, Everything I said about Kathleen applies about her too, as they’ve arrived in the Unraveled World together. We haven’t shown much on our plans to develop her so far, but trust us: we’re going to both fill in more of her bakcstory, and give her chances to shine soon.

Cutting the cake together we have Sergio Turbo and Nikki Cherryflower, both of which made their first appearances in Mai Dire Fine and appeared in all sequel works. For as much grief the Unraveled World is bringing them, it is arguable they’ve gained more than they have lost, as they’ve both got their families back thanks to it. Fun fact: their outfits are loosely based on the ones they wore during Chapter 7 of Blank Sprite.

Last but not least, Corolla. Introduced in Don’t Forget The Canon, she’s my most successful character. Defined by Aelit “Kathleen, but written well” way before we started working on The World without Authors, it isn’t a suprise they synergize so well together… much to Sergio and Nikki’s dismay. Here, is she more excited for the cake, or because they are cutting it together like it was a wedding cake? Probably both.

Pokémon!

Another pokémon generation, another great set of pokémon to choose from for my top ten. I really don't think that there are any pokémon that I think are awful - they all range from average to fantastic. Additionally, in Sinnoh, I loved the big expansion on the new evolutions to old pokémon concept - and I think this Top 10 reflects that. As is always the case, I have included both the original Gen4 sprite as well as the shiny sprite, with all sprites taken from Platinum for the sake of consistency. Gen4 also marked my first first shiny since Gen2, and although Bibarel didn't sneak into my list, I really just wanted to mention it again!

10. Roserade

The last slot on the list is always tricky as it edges out all your honourable mentions, but I couldn't have a list without Roserade. The first of several on this list that is a new evolved form of a previously establised pokémon, Roserade is a perfect example of how this can breathe new life into a pokémon family. I can't imagine ever bothering with Gen3's Roselia which was fine, but nothing too special. But with it evolving into the masquerade ball-inspired Roserade, it was always on my list. I trained one on my Pokémon Pearl team and I think it is now my favourite Grass/Poison type - sorry Venusaur! Also, the shiny is lovely; the blue and red rose-hands change to black and purple and it looks so good. If this was a top ten list of shinies, Roserade would be even higher up!

09. Honchkrow

Honchkrow gets into this list head of the regional bird of Sinnoh, Staraptor (which I also think is great), for a couple of reasons. I think Staraptor is great, but the type combination Normal/Flying just isn't as interesting as the cool Dark/Flying type of Honchkrow. Additionally, as with Roserade, I love how it takes the previously average Murkrow from trickster crows to a group of lackeys who surround the Mafia Boss that is Honckrow. It's a great evolution concept. I also enjoyed training my Honchkrow (again on my Pokémon Pearl team) to combine it's Super Luck ability, the Scope Lens held item, and the high critical hit chance move, Night Slash, to dish out a crit every three attacks or so. I don't hate the shiny either, although I wish it was a bit of a deeper purple as it does stray dangerously close to hot pink. Still at least it isn't yet another blue pokémon turning to this colour!

08. Lopunny

I feel like Lopunny isn't a pokémon that would be on many people list of favourites, and I totally see why. It is weirdly sexualised - not too surprising given it seems to be based on a Playboy bunny - with the way it hold it's arms in front of it's chest to give the impression of cleavage (which it thankfully doesn;t actually have) and the 'wolf whistle' cry that cannot just be a coincidence. I never planned to use one but I needed a male Lopunny to help hunt for a female Combee, and he ended up sticking around on my Pokémon Diamond team. A big part of this was the headcannon I had that given it is a pokémon with such a feminine design, my Lopunny was a bad-ass pokémon drag queen! I also really like the shiny with the (thankfully not hot) pink highlights. YAAASSS!

07. Floatzel

I'm not even sure exactly why I like Floatzel so much - but it really appeals to me all the same. I like the animal it is based on - the Weasel presumably, although it could easily be a stoat, ferret, or otter - and think the design with the dual tails acting as a propeller is really cool. I also like how the rubber tubing element of it's design doesn't make look clumsey or inept like a Water-type pokémon, with what is essentially a flotation device, could easiy end up. Floatzel is another pokémon that I trained on my Pokémon Diamond team and it is both quick and relatively hard hitting on both the Attack and Special Attack sides, which makes it nice and versatile, especially when playing through and requiring it to learn both Special and Physical HM moves. The shiny is nothing to write home about though, essentially a more washed out orange. Maybe they were going for a gold colour, but if so it just looks kinda off. I'll stick with the original, thanks!

06. Mismagius

After two original pokémon lines, I'm back to new evolutions to old pokémon, and also my second drag queen pokémon! Another feminine-styled pokémon, my Mismagius is male earning it the nickname Ru Pol (because Ru Poltergeist was just a little too long). Evolving from the very overlooked Misdreavus, I always planned to use Mismagius on a team and he becomes the third member of my Pokémon Pearl team to get into the Top Ten. Really great Speed, Special Attack, and Special Defence, combined with a really good movepool for great type coverage makes Mismagius an excellent pokémon that I was a big fan of before even playing through the Sinnoh games. I'm also a fan of te mustard-coloured shiny, but if I had to choose between the colour options, I think the original is slightly better suited to a spooky Ghost-type.

05. Hippowdon

This is the first pokémon in my top ten that I didn't actually train in Gen4. This is odd because if I had produced the list without playing the games and the chance to bond with various other pokémon, then I think Hippowdon would have been in the top three. Part of the issue here is how difficult/late in the game you can get one. To catch it's pre-evolved form, Hippopotas, you need to capture a certain number of Unown in order to get into the tunnel where it lives. Since I had all the Unown forms in Emerald, I was never going to do this again, so I never caught it. The fully evolved for is available in the post-game, but this is far too late. Even so, I still love it as a pokémon. I really like the design of a scary looking, Ground-type hippo with sand pouring out of it and I think the sexual diamorphism in colour between the male and female forms helps make up for the fact the male form's shiny is rather lackluster, being just a more washed out beige. One day I will definitely train a Hippowdon of my own!

04. Mamoswine

Sinnoh certainy introduced some cool (Ice-type pun not intended) Ground-types, as this is the second of three in this top ten, as well as the fourth out of five that evolve previously established pokémon. Interestingly, after Swinub appeared in my Gen2 top ten, this is the first time two members of the same evolution line have been in a list of my favourites! Mammoswine was a key member of my Pokémon HeartGold team and is such a great addition to the Swinub/Piloswine family. According to in-game cannon, it is essentially a pre-historic evolution that only happens in certain circumstances in the modern day which makes it feel like a fossil pokémon, but without the need to saddle it with the Rock-typing. Unfortunately, on the shiny side it draws the short straw of the family as it just looks a bit weird compared to Swinub's aquamarine or Piloswine's lovely golden coulouration.

03. Vespiquen

Moving into the top three, Vespiquen is another pokémon that I liked before I ever played through Sinnoh and was very keen to use on a team. It's not hard to see why I like it; it is a fearsome-looking Queen Bee with a great honeycomb design, and the fact it can be a bit of effort to obtain since it only evolves from female Combees makes it feel like a prize when you finally get one. I had earmarked Vespiquen for my Pokémon Platinum team but it ended up missing out as, despite being part Flying-type, it can't learn the HM Fly. This caused me to drop it out for Drifblim in the end, but it is another pokémon I would love to train someday. Although I definitely prefer the original colouration, the more angry-looking orangey-red of the shiny is still a great look, but the idea of shiny hunting a female Combee doesn't sound like fun at all!

02. Yanmega

Yanmega was a late choice for my Pokémon SoulSilver team, but using it there rocketed it into the top ten, as I hadn't really ever considered it muc before using it on that team. It actualy combines everything I like about my previous two entries; it is a bad-ass looking Bug-type with an amazing design, and it is also a pre-historic evolution, based on the huge dragonflies that lived back then and evolving in the same way as Mamoswine. Since it is a new evolution to Johto's Yanma, it made sense to use it in the Gen2 remakes over and above Vespiquen, which share the same typing but only really has ties to Sinnoh. Finally, Yanmega has a realy excellent shiny with the blue version looking so good and it right up their with Roserade for best Sinnoh shiny!

01. Torterra

As we reach the number one slot, it shouldn't come as much surprise to see a member of a starter pokémon line here. The starter lines are always among the best designed pokémon of any region and my favourite from Sinnoh is easily Torterra. It has an excellent design concept; a Grass/Ground-type tortoise with an entire eco-system on it's back, my Torterra was an integral part of my Pokémon Diamond team. Given how much I like a lot of starters families, it is interesting that this marks the first time a fully-evolved starter has made the list, although the first-stage evolutions have been well represented with Bulbasaur, Cyndaquil, and Mudkip all previously representing their various regions. The only downside to Torterra is that I don't love it's shiny. It certainly isn't bad, but the variation of green used just can't hold a candle to the original.

Wow, I can't believe that I am finally at the end of Generation 4. As always I will be posting all the lovely art that I had commissioned of my Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, and SoulSilver teams before I move onto Gen5. I know these upcoming games are often considered rather devicive within the pokémon fanbase, but I also think this view has softened over time so it might actually be more of a case of fans of the franchise not enjoying new things. Eiter way, I'm excited to see how I fare with Pokémon Black and White!

FROG!! 

ok so hes a liddol baby . he likes to hang out with sand ! theyre best friends and sometimes go to beaches and other places together. he’s very sweet and a little quiet. just a baby.

speaking of sand here they are!!! they dont talk much but when they do it sometimes freaks cookies out due to it being a drippy sand hole like

frog doesnt care about it too much . sometimes he tries to put sticks or something in their mouth just to see what’d happen. sand just eats the stick

rabbit’s foot is ! very lucky to say the least. hes also pretty gullible and easily fall for tricks but due to his luck they never seem to work out. very rarely does something harmful happen to him, though things like disappointing or saddening other cookies can happen. 

SPEAKING of disappointing or saddening cookies... fun dip! he’s often disappointed due to his tricks not working on rabbit’s foot but that only motivates him more. someone once said he looks like he’d be gumballs brother and honestly that’d be a chaotic pair of siblings (while im hesitant about canon relations with ocs..... who cares????). so yeah fun dip and gumball are brothers. 

rabbit’s foot is very much like a young child (though he is aware of a lot of things, he just has a personality alike to a young child. not a brain alike to a young child) and fun dip is a goofball prankster.

almond is very grumpy and they want to be a powerful wizard . honestly if they knew how to contact de or find her they would. also they are very emotional but tend to bottle it up (becuase in their tags on their ref its like “bad boy or crybaby” and i was like ‘’ok both’’). 

they dont hang around cookies often

and now for your local gamer boy. basically mlg jokes all the way around. mtn dew cookie references all that old stuff! theyre likely aware of other things too but theyre like “ah, nah, no thanks bro lolololol” and somehow they have that one robotic male voice? you know  the one in all of cowbelly’s videos that reads the memes? yeah that one. idk how to describe it

they also live off of doritos! besides their pet because it’s kind of obvious that’s a different dorito (plus g4m3r br0 has been existing for a while so it’d taste bad)

garlic cooky! hes a dad and he’s married but that was on ponytown . i made him when me, kiley, and jamie decided to make a lil oc family . kiley made bread cookie his husband and jamie made butter, their daughter. garlic cookie had a very chaotic family when we all actualy messed around on there !

he also adopted some one’s herb pony on ponytown who acted very feral . we joked about dog with a blog because garlic called him the family dog . garlic cookie thinks toe toe (what he named the feral herb) is a dog unironically. like legit. also he’s a vampire ! he’s allergic to himself but isn’t dead yet somehow.

they are a very sweet cookie who wishes to befriend many aliens! they’ve learned many languages and often mixes things up (as in, like, you know, accidentally saying an alien idiom in english or an english idiom in alien, forgetting words from either language then trying to describe it then BAM remembering. probably said an alien idiom in ANOTHER alien language while speaking in an english conversation). they know plenty of written languages and honestly? they try so hard to make sure every one is heard. theyre not very professional and theyre kinda bad at driving a ship 

whcih is why they let their space buddy drive the ship! yeah their dog, buddy, drives a spaceship. its funky but their dog is literally a spaceship itself.

My thoughts on Voltron season 7, not that anyone cares.

Look, I’ve always belonged to that part of the fandom that would rather enjoy whatever the creators are trying to bring to the show than getting frustrated for what they don’t bring, because It’s a cartoon and It’s supposed to be fun and entertaining, so I’ve pretty much liked every season to some extent until now. But this season is seriously making it hard for me, I’ll tell you why. 

First of all, the expectation the producers created was just too much, and yes, I’m talking about LGBT+ rep, because at this point is pretty much impossible not to. The producers claimed from the very first beginning there was going to be representation in the show, we all know about the infamous art with Lance and Shiro holding the sign and all that. You can’t just do that kind of statements without expecting a good amount of people to hold you accountable for it sooner or later. Then this year’s comicon came, and the vld panel came in through all smartass and sassy showing us Adam ans Shiro’s previous relationship and being all like “see, we told you guys ;)”, and I have to admit, they got me. I truly thought they were going to take charge on the matter. Only to find out they went and killed Adam on his second appearance. I shit you not, when I saw that little picture of his on the screen going dark I was like ´oh shit guys wtf are you doing, stop´, because THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU DON’T DO. That is an old trick and a mean one. Putting lgbt characters in a story just to kill them off is not new, it’s a pretty old and terrible trope, and a content creator for a show being broadcasted on year 2018 should know better than that. Saying two characters have some kind of relationship and then making at least one of them dissapear so you don’t have to make them interact furtherly is a dick move, and just not the way to do justice to a community. 

Second, Acxa. And don’t get me wrong, I love her. But as many of you are probably also thinking, the path they seem to be taking with her character, and her relationship with Keith, to be more precise, is uncalled for. And please let me make it clear; I’m not saying this as a Klance shipper (I ship a lot of shit, I don’t even care anymore), but as a fiction consumer. If what we all fear is happening actually happens, and Keith ends up paired up with Acxa, It will be nearly impossible for me to enjoy that plotline for the sole reason that it’s forced, and there’s no worse kind of forced relationship than an heterosexual forced relationship. We’ve been putting up with them for decades now, it’s not cute, it’s not interesting. To be fair, this dynamic was probably planned since the begginning, and I don’t think that, at that point, the creators expected Keith to become such an icon for gay representation. Even though one could say he has been written as gay-coded, there’s no way to know if this was actually on purpose. However, even if Keith’s characterization was unintentional, his relationship with Acxa has, at least in my opinion, no appeal whatsoever. It’s lame and boring and uneventful, so I really hope they don’t become endgame. 

Last, and I really don’t want to sound like a crazy Lance stan here, but they really need to step up their game with his character development. So far he’s the only main character for whom we’d only gotten glimpses of his inner and outer struggles. And while that’s what makes him such a relatable and lovable character, these issues need to be adressed properly in order to become interesting. It’s like they keep showing us how insecure and affected and traumatized he is, but they just... let him overcome all of it out of screen. And that’s not fair considering every other paladin has had their time to face their demons (Officially now that Hunk got his little arc). So with so little show left to close all the plots, I can’t help but think his big shot, if ever comes, will be probably rushed and anticlimatic. I really hope I’m wrong, I really hope they surprise me, but considering the treatment they’ve given to the plot so far, I’m very low on expectations.  Overall, I don’t think the season was terrible, It was actually pretty fun and eventful.A lot of shit went down, a lot of new great characters were introduced, and they actually managed to surprise me with a lot of things. I just know better on what to expect from now on. This show won’t give us the kind of experience we were waiting for, and that is on us for having so much (let’s be honest) unreal expectations, but also on the staff for feeding those expectations wrongly. I’m not mad at the creators, I don’t think they’re bad people, or homophobic, or lazy. I just think they are straight, and it shows. They’re a crew of predominantely straight people that tried to enter the territory of revindication, in what I’d rather assume was nothing but good faith, but sadly it’s not enough. And it’s a shame, because I actualy like the show. It’s a fun show, with colorful characters, and cool action sequences and an awesome soundtrack and funny goofball filler episodes, it’s great. And  we haven’t been enjoying all those good things, because we’re too busy waiting for all those other things to happen. I personally will set my mind on enjoying the rest of the show, not thinking about what I want there to happen or how progressive I want it to be. I’ll just... watch it, and have fun, and if something makes me angry I’ll just focus on all the other things that don’t. I completely understand If you are dissapointed on the franchise and decide to stop watching. Nobody should be watching something that makes them misserable. I still have reasons to keep watching, so I’ll probably stay till the end, unless another major fuck up happens, who knows.  Take care and eat cake

17:20: Guess what George has been doing all day? Has he left the apartment? Has he brushed his teeth? Is he “out of commission”? The answer to all these questions, and more, coming up!!!

Not gonna “get into” what happened last night, feel like it’s a “breach of privacy” that I don’t want to do. Yeah, no, not going to. It was a really good night, though, what a turnaround for the day! Wasn’t expecting that in the least, was expecting something a lot… More dreary, I think. Dungeon World was engaging in a surreal way, like, I was having a ridiculous amount of fun playing that. Chose bard as my class, for obvious reasons, I think, and elf as race. Really looking forward to the next time we do this, felt distinctly “wholesome” and “creative” as a group activity. Left at 21h30 in order to make it to a metro station in time to meet up with someone to get drinks with. Was, like, wow. Was a good night. Still riding waves from it now, as I’m writing this update.

Didn’t jot down any timestamps for today, but here’s the answers to the questions I posed earlier:

-George has been studying all day. It’s disgusting and reprehensible and he hates it. But at least it’s cozy in his apartment; he’s listening to Glenn Gould play some Haydn (for once, hahahaha), and has been steadily consuming tea all day. It’s okay, I guess, in the end. It’s good that he even has a roof over his head and doesn’t have to worry about his next meal. He’s very, very grateful for that. He is grateful for not being sick, and for not having to always be on the lookout for physical violence. Yes.

-He HAS left his apartment! Sort of. Sort of, not really. He stepped out on the porch. For like three seconds. That’s it. It was kind of chilly. It was earlier in the day. It was in the morning. It was nice but then he went back inside.

-He’s not exactly “out of commission,” he’s just got a boatload of stuff to do. Midterm to study for that’s happening tomorrow, and another stats assignment that he just totally didn’t know was due tomorrow that he’s gotta plow his way through. It’ll be okay, though, he’s feeling strangely optimistic about all this work he’s put off.

17:38: Going to keep updating today’s post from here on out, didn’t include any updates before because, like, just been… sitting… in front of the computer, alternatively watching YouTube and trying to study… But, seems like a good check to just make sure I’m focused. Stay tuned.

Going to head out now to catch the last of the sunlight; the sky is so light today, like, baby blue light, and the sun looks really mellow and embracing and not harsh like it often is. Gonna maybe walk to the market across the street and buy some pasta sauce supplies, or something. Maybe some other “treats”? Mussels? French fries? Hmm. Mmmm. Mm. Yum.

17:42: Facebook group chat with Dungeon World “crew” really active right now. Phoebe asking if anyone wants to go to this Venezuelan place around the corner from my house. Even better. Way overspending on food but if I get the cheapest thing on the menu it seems like it’ll be okay?? Could “use a study break” now anyways, this is a good excuse to go outside. I like Dungeon World “peeps.” Smiling to myself softly.

18:39: Back at home. Phoebe “shamelessly stealing” my wifi (my internal words, meant facetiously, I’m trying to be funny, I’m not actualy begrudgingly doing this, lol) to do a work related call that she needed to do at seven. Gonna sit on bed and “stare at things on the internet” in one half of my screen, solve my stats problems on the other half. Dinner didn’t cost that much, like, ten bucks, thankfully; was actually pretty good, will probably go back to that place. Called Arepera, it’s right near where I live; I’ve walked by it so many times but just have never gone in. Need to start budgeting better to allow for more “restaurant exploration,” need to stop just wasting money on fast food purchases when I can just as easiliy throw something on the stove...

Chatting with Phoebe about incompetency of people, feeling extremely introverted, feeling further and further more resigned about “being alive” as we get older. 20:00: Phoebe finished with work call. Leaving now to “go home and feed her cat.” Was nice idly working in my bed, actually, usually I really hate it when people are in my space but this was ironically focus-inducing. Told Phoebe I’d “try to study for probably another two hours and then just give up,” which is probably wishful thinking; probably won’t even make it another hour, but going to really “see what I can do.” Probably going to do my usual habit of sleeping early and waking up early tomorrow morning to finish the assignment, it doesn’t actually seem that hard this time, a LOT easier than the first assignment for some reason? Can also study for the midterm throughout tomorrow since it’s not until, like, four or five or something.

Before leaving Phoebe recommended an album by Mariya Takeuchi, a Japanese singer songwriter. I think it’s called “Variety,” or, at least, this song she recommended is on Variety originally, I am pretty sure, after some Googling? Apparently it’s a concept album about someone falling in love, getting married, separating, getting over the relationship. Sounds “right up my alley,” going to “listen the heck out of this” tonight. If any of you have music recommendations, please tell me too?? I am always listening to music like almost ceaselessly throughout the day and always want more to listen to, give me suggestions, especially if they’re depressing, or concept albums, like this one. Thank you in advance.

20:23: Little brother signed into Overwatch, I sent him a message asking if he had time to play a game, he said yes!!! These little gaming interactions with him make me so happy, I love voice chatting him and just playing a few rounds (or several). He seems inundated with school work so he can only play one game.

Overwatch inexplicably not launching... Seems really bad, getting a lot of anxiety, like, a LOT that I’m going to miss my “window of opportunity” to play with him... Going to try restarting computer, wish me luck...

20:45: Finished playing round of Overwatch. Went Zarya so our team had a tank, we took A site pretty easily, but couldn’t break through B. Brother had lag issues all game, I’m sad he didn’t have a better time, it’s always so frustrating to play with lag. Sad I can’t play more with him, feel “heavy hearted.”

20:52: Going to walk across the street to grocery and buy some beef jerky or something, and a can of beer. Feeling excited to wake up early tomorrow, going to take down notes on how to solve the rest of these stats problems but not actually solve them, shouldn’t take me more than an hour to complete this problem set.

After a long pause, we decided that it might be a good idea to make a new release. Mplayer For Windows 7

Among the bigger news is that we found a maintainer for the X11 gmplayer GUI, so those holding out on it against our earlier recommendations will get a lot of bug fixes.

There is also support for more subtitle types (Bluray, DVB, DVB closed-caption for example), many improvements to -vo gl including output of 10 bit video, very basic but usable OpenGL ES support and much better SDL support which makes it a usable choice on OSX (particularly on older PowerPC variants much faster than corevideo or quartz). MPlayer will now also try much harder to handle intermittent network failures, for example trying to reconnect.

As part of the code cleanup efforts, the internal libfaad2 copy has been removed since the FFmpeg decoder is working well. Also the internal mp3lib copy is no longer used by default since the many alternatives (FFmpeg, libmpg123, libmad) avoid its recurring issues like incorrect decoding with newer compilers. However it can still be forced at runtime for easier tracking of regressions. Please do not rely on this since it will be removed in the future. If you do not actually need it consider disabling it at compile time with --disable-mp3lib.

As a first for this release, the tarballs are available in two variants: compressed with xz and compressed with gzip. Please get the xz variant if you can to save bandwidth, the gzip version is for everyone that cannot use it. Should you never have encountered xz compressed files, newer versions of tar can uncompress it via 'tar xJf MPlayer-1.1.tar.xz'.

I needed a simple command-ling media player, and this was perfect! Extremely lightweight and very versatile. I use it for some custom clip management and window capture for streamers to use when broadcasting using the OBS Studio streaming/broadcasting software on Twitch. I take chat commands that create a text semaphore/trigger file, and when the script sees the trigger, it uses this Mplayer utility to play. I am just doing this for fun, and to help streamers offer a little something extra. if a streamer wants to rotate 8 different 'Hug' clips when a viewer runs the '!hug @somename' command in chat, there should be a utility that can launch the clips when the commands are run, then rotate the clips so if 4 or 5 people use the 'Hug' command to hug each other, it doesn't just play the same clip over and over. The fact that you can title the player window allows a streamer to have a few different windows captures set up. Maybe 1 for fullscreen clips with a chromakey filter, a regular fullscreen clip fo speciual event clips, and maybe ones for subscriber 'intro clips' they use when they join chat to announce their presence in style. Maybe another for 'accent clips/memes', so users can add commentary by launching clips at proper moments, like a '!rip' command that plays a rotation of funny 'I'm dead' clips when the streamer dies playing a game. The streamer just ads these 3 or 4 window capture sources to each scene they want clips to be available, then the script/utility launches each clip with the appropriate window title to have it play at the right size and location. I'd love to see someone actualy do this properly. I have it all working. I just needed a 'lighter' player that was flexible enough to support all the different clip types. I was using VLC Media Player, but it did noy play smoothly, often hitching/lagging for a split second when launching clips, making it seems rough and 'unfinished'. This gives a smooth and polished feel when playing the clips.

This is awesome. No more need to fire-up some heavy graphical user interface just to listen to audio streams! (Sorry I couldn't do this, due to a complete lack of free time here!) The only thing lacking, instructions how to install mplayer.exe and instructions concerning how to use with Cygwin. Basically, the mplayer.exe goes within your $PATH. I'm not sure where the other sub-folders should reside, but I simply created a symbolic link using Cygwin for my usage here. (ie. See below Cygwin Instructions) Initial execution of mplayer.exe seemed to search all of Windows fonts. Successive exections of mplayer.exe appeared to forgo the font searching, resulting in the usual quick start of the program. For cygwin users: 1) Unpackage the mplayer package to a folder. 2) Start cygwin and make sure you have a local bin folder (ie. /home/user/bin) within your path. If not, create the folder and modify your local $PATH to include your /home/user/bin folder, replacing the 'user' with your user name. 3) Type 'ln -s /place/where/you/unpackaged/mplayer/mplayer.exe /home/user/bin/' 4) If you prefer using .exe' command suffixes or are required to, and you have 'mplayer' aliases within you Linux bashrc and are copying the Linux bashrc over to Windows' Cygwin, then open the bashrc file within vim and type ':%s/mplayer /mplayer.exe /gc' without quotes. The command will aide in replacing the 'mplayer ' with 'mplayer.exe '. Most Cygwin users can skip this as Cygwin seems to recognize commands without the '.exe' suffix!

Nice work ! Version 37051 has not any more WMV bug. Really nice Job ! Don't stop working on mplayer, i use it everyday for a project i'll publish soon... Thanks again ;)

(1/?)I've actualy had a friend pull the 'you're an adult shouting at a minor' card on me. We were having a fight and it basically boiled down to, while we were at an oversea's con she did not like the fact that I was acting like an adult/guardian towards her, rather than a 'friend' (I was the only adult out of 4 people and we were in ANOTHER COUNTRY) Basically she was being shitty and entitled and did a number of stupid and irrisponsible things, then coldn't understand why I was upset.

(2/?) half way through the argument, I was getting frustrated because she would not listen, would not admit she had done some shitty things and then she derailed the whole thing with "Well I'm not the adult shouting at a minor" SHE was the one who kept starting these 'conversations' who wanted to 'talk it out' when I wanted to let it go and just pretend it never happened. I then proceeded to burn that friendship to the ground (not a very mature move, but at least I'm aware of that)

Because they use it when they stick their noses where it doesn't belong, get in too deep and don't like the situation they've gotten themselves into. They like to think "I'm mature for my age, I can handle adult sitauations and arguments" but the moment they're held to adult standards they want out. You can't have it both ways. If you're mature enough to have these arguments, then youre fucking old enough to deal with the consequence

That argument is one of the most ridiculous things I see in discourse. To me, talking about how young you are as an excuse means you’re admitting that you don’t have the knowledge or experience to participate in this conversation. When I see that someone is a minor, I don’t immediately think “Oh, so there’s an expert on sensitive topics.” I think “Man, I was pretty dumb at that age. I’m still pretty dumb, but I’ve learned a lot since then.”

I know some very nice and smart people who are still minors, but they’re definitely above average, so whenever I see someone under 18 on Tumblr, (Or like around the last couple years of high school. I’m only 19 myself.) I read any discourse posts they make with that in mind. Sometimes I’m surprised by how mature and reasonable they are, sometimes I’m not. But even if you’re a child prodigy, you can’t make that argument and expect to come out on top. It’s a concession. And that’s why it’s so hard to counter. Because they admit defeat and then treat it like a victory, and that doesn’t make any sense.

Your former friend seems immature. I don’t know her, so I can’t say anything about whether it was just a childish moment or an actual problem she needs to solve, but it was probably good getting rid of that friendship. She was just abusing a loophole in social interaction that you couldn’t do anything about, and that sounds like a nightmare to deal with.

It’s part of the whole idea of anti immunity, which is a term I just made up to describe how antis have set up this discussion to be intentionally one-sided. Basically, anti immunity is the fact that antis are allowed to call people names and accuse them of supporting actual crimes, but their targets can only respond with calm arguments. Antis can call us filthy pedos and threaten our lives, but if I posted like that my real name and address would be all over Tumblr within a week. I’m going to make a long post about all this, because I’ve been meaning to address it for a while now, but the trump card in this game is “I’m a minor.” And that’s shitty.

Three Musketeers: Carrie Ann, Len & Bruno are back. You know as much as I love Julianne as a judge & I really do, as well as some guest judges, it’s nothing like the seeing the 3 original still kicking after 25 seasons. 

Only one judge speaking per couple, ehhh right. lol

1.Terrell Owens & Cheryl Burke - Cha Cha (5+5+5=15)

Cheryl was the secret 13th pro, no real surprise, she’s been away for a bit, but they almost always come back (looking at you too Mark Ballas). I’m just gonna put it out there, I’m not the biggest Terrell Owens fan but I won’t let it cloud my judgement of his dancing. I actually think he could do well, DWTS loooves a tall, dark, football player with twinkly toes.. Cheryl is a good pick for him. This was a nice, standard cha-cha for a premiere nothing too exciting, he’s got rhythm & musicality. His footwork was a lot cleaner than expected, obviously could be sharper among other things. He’s kind of flat-footed, but he has the work-hard mentality that could see him trend up mid-season.

2. Debbie Gibson & Alan Bersten - Foxtrot (6+5+6=17) I’m familiar with Debbie’s long career but knowing she struggles with Lyme disease & his pushing herself to the max for this show gives me a whole a new respect for her. Alan has been busting his butt in the troupe & as a stand-in for some seasons so it’s nice to see him get a chance to show his stuff as a pro. Beautiful foxtrot to debut with, her & Alan are cute together. Debbie is very striking on the floor, there are times when she was right on it & then a little stiff and weal posture at times. I can sense a breakthrough coming. 3.Sasha Pieterse & Gleb Savchenko - Cha Cha (6+6+6=18) I have never watched Pretty Little Liars so she’s a virtual stranger to me but I predict she’ll be around for some weeks with the PLL fan-base. She seems to have fun personality. Gleb is not my favorite, he has yet to truly impress me. I think Sasha was holding back her Fierce (prepare for season long Sasha Fierce puns, it’s happening...).She seems to be comfortable out there but hopefully she’ll really let loose sooner than later. There’s a lot more there. Best footwork so far, I just wished they used more of the floor...

4. Drew Scott & Emma Slater - Foxtrot (6+5+5=16) I’m one of the 10 people that don’t watch HGTV, but I do know who the Property Brothers but I don’t have an opinion on them, except Drew is the more attractive one, don’t @ me.  What I do know is Drew got lucky getting paired with reigning champ & DWTS sweetheart Emma. Their popularity should take them far. Easily my favorite choreography of the night so far, it was charming,, on the nose, but pretty jam packed, she made him work more than any other celeb so far. Len is right, that he’s pretty clunky with his feet & hands, hopefully that can be sorted over time. I can’t be too hard on him he had more to do than a lot of celebs. 

5. Barbra Corcoran & Keo Motespe - Cha Cha (5+4+5=14) I’m probably the biggest Shark Tank fan that exist, don’t ask why I just am. So I’m super jacked to see Barabra she’s one of the best and most entertaining sharks. I hope she doesn’t get cut too soon. What can I say about this dance, except I loved every minute of it. I love seeing people live their best life, especially people of a certain age. You got money, power, respect & fame, why not live as much as you can , what’t there to lose? Barbara totally embodies that. This dance definitely had Patti Labelle “In Da Club” vibes. Of course she can greatly improve& I hope she does, but most importantly I hope she continues to have as much fun as possible. 

6. Jordan Fisher & Lindsay Arnold - Tango (8+7+7=22) I’m not a jet setting millionaire so I never saw Hamilton, so I’m not familiar but he’s with Lindsay & that’s enough for me pay attention to him. They seem poised to go really far. He’s charming, cute & has a lot of promise. This tango was fast as we’ve come to like on this show, and pretty sharp. Best footwork, choreography & partnering so far.

7. Nick Lachey & Peta Murgatoryd - Cha Cha (6+6+6=18) Obviously, Nick’s brother Drew won Season 2 with Cheryl but who cares anymore, that was back when the show was less flashy & looked like it was shot on VHS. I’m not really in the mood to hear about this “rivalry” all season. Because, we unfortunately have to focus on Nick vs his wife Vanessa with Maks this season. I was over the competing couples when Alexa Vega & Carlos Pena were on & I’m over it now. It is cute they’re respectively paired with married couple Peta & Maks. Nick is not the most rhythmic celeb, with ironic because Peta is one of the more rhythmic pro’s. He’s stiff but what he lacks in technique, he makes up for in enthusiasm. I’m sensing Vanessa might be the better dancer of the two, at least I’m hoping.

8. Vanessa Lachey & Maksim Chmerkovskiy - Cha Cha (7+7+7=21) I gotta say marriage & fatherhood looks great on Maks. I’m glad my prediction was right, Vanessa is better than Nick. She’s actually really good, one of the best of the night. Maks’ sharp footwork suited her well. Her placement is clean, swift & sharp. One of the most synced partnerships tonight, I want to see her go far.

9. Frankie Muniz & Witney Carson - Foxtrot (7+6+6=19) I haven’t heard much about Frankie since early 2000′s except his car crash some years back but he looks healthy, happy & wealthy (those Malcom in the Middle checks had to be nice). They really benefited from a great, emotional song (Sign of The Times). For someone who once broke his back you couldn’t tell, his extension was really good. To be so shy, Frankie dances very broad, he’s got a great early connection with Witney. Definitely a highlight of the night. 

10. Nikki Bella & Artem Chigventsev - Tango (7+7+6=20) Nikki is about the only name I recognize from the WWE Diva’s. It’ll be interesting to see if she can reign in her dominance to let Artem lead her. Len is absolutely right, her looking down almost ruined the dance, I thought she was uncomfortable at first then I realized she was just watching her feet. When she was in hold it was great, her legs are super long which make for great lines. She’s got great confidence & attack, can Artem contain it? 

11. Derek Fisher & Sharna Burgess - Salsa (6+6+6=18) Derek is Laker legend, I’m excited he’s paired with Sharna who plays no games. NBA players need redemption on this show, Derek might be the guy to do it. His hips & footwork will need work, I think he needs to loosen up more, but he’s super enthusiastic about the whole experience. That ending was super close, Sharna almost ate it..

12. Victoria Arlen & Val Chmerkovksiy - Cha Cha (7+6+6=19) Victoria’s story is remarkable being paralyzed for 10 years, competing in the Paralympics, winning Gold & Silver & learning to walk a year ago & now DWTS & she can’t even feel her legs. Like what are you doing with your life right now? Victoria has a winner’s spirit, she’s incredibly resilient and partner with Val that can take her a super long way. Plus she can actualy dance, there’s no sympathy card in this pairing, Val gave her some challenging choreograph, not just for her situation. The routine was fun, uplifting & matched her spirit and personality. The fact that she can’t feel her legs just blows my mind when watching her dance and sync with Val. The placement was great & clean. These two are ones to watch, she’s got a great story, she’s got Val & she’s got moves. 

13. Lindsey Sterling & Mark Ballas - (7+8+8=22) Lindsey is an incredible violinist who is no stranger to the DWTS stage, having guest performed & she’s also close friends with the Hough / Ballas family already, so this seemed like a natural pairing all around. Obviously great to have Mark and his hair back on the show, he’s a personal favorite with Val. This was by far the single best performance of the night. Quick, sharp & technically sound. Mark took a risk with that hip-hop breakdown but Lindsey murdered it. It was complete flip on what you expected from her as Len noted, something Mark is good for. She’s such a natural and exuberant performer & Mark is such a seasoned pro, it’s a match made in heaven. Honestly, I believe Mark has been robbed many times (Chelsea Kane, Katherine Jenkins, Paige Vanzant) it would be nice to see him win his so long overdue 3rd mirrorball trophy & Lindsey might just be the partner to get it done. Tied for the top with Jordan & Lindsay

Honestly it’s so many celebs that I enjoyed Week 1, I can’t honestly imagine what 2 I would want go home next week.

Tokyo 7th Sisters - Episode Queen of Purple Novel Summary Part 3

Continuing Part 1 and 2, here comes part 3. Because I forgot most of Chapter 3 (lol) I ended up skimming the chapter and... uh... this ended up long....

Chapter 3. Feel Her Rock

After what happened in the game center, Matsuri had Ferb’s offer at the back of her head as she walked around a game store, thinking, how that’s so unfair, with Ferb’s straightforward and honest eyes in her request, it was hard to say no. But Matsuri understood very well there is a huge different between just a drum gamer and a real drummer, and just how between real drummer and gamer there is this gap of skill height, which at the moment she ofc cannot measure and it was more than just hitting the right beat in the game. Yet on the other hand, she knew how Ferb is someone who does not fool around when it comes to music. As musician with that much passion, Ferb would be the first person to understand how music and game differs and she was always serious when it comes to music, yet it was her the one who asked. In that moment, Matsuri remembered fondly the first time she talked to Ferb properly.

They talked together the first time in Nanasis lounge, when Matsuri was waiting for Conney and shihainin who was still not present yet, and Ferb was there first. Ferb offered her drinks and (just like many people) thought she was not as old as she was (lol. Ferb offered juice instead of coffee or something and Matsuri was like, how ruuuude lol). Matsuri noted that although her aloof outer personality made her looked as if she was a lot more mature than her age, Ferb was actually just a regular 17 years old teenager, who answered in rather disinterested fashion like “aah~” “I see” “I don’t exactly know” when it comes to things other than bass and music (where she was suddenly full of life and turns chirpy). In Matsuri’s eyes, such childish personality was endearing. When it comes to things that she loves, Ferb properly see things that she needed or that she did not need, such as when she asked Murasaki, in which for her Murasaki was indispensable with the vision she had in mind.

Within that decision of making the band, Matsuri also remembered Murasaki and wondered on her approach. Like Ferb, who knows exactly what she wanted in things she loved, Murasaki see things in black and white and properly assess which was important for her and which was not especially when it comes to singing. Murasaki did not talk much and their interaction revolves around meeting during lessons and that was also not beyond songs. During vocal lesson Murasaki shine like no other and was in full zeal but when in dance, Matsuri did not even remember much of Murasaki. With her straightforward and stoic attitude, which was admirable in her age, Matsuri felt it took a long time to get to know Murasaki despite Matsuri herself actually can get along well fast with anyone type of person. Murasaki did not seem to mind company, nor would she mind if there wasn’t. Such part also, where one did not need to mind much on that side, is what makes Murasaki an easy company to be with. That said, Matsuri thought if that was anything with her upbringing. Her mother did not exactly seem like she was the strict person, considering she gave someone whose part time proposition was rejected some free curry just because she felt bad. It did not seem like Murasaki was told to help, and instead volunteered to help. In the end, Matsuri concluded she did not understand Murasaki that much.

Browsing the game section, Matsuri found the Yuri girl game that Yumeno recommended to her in super serious fashion. Matsuri then thought of Yumeno, too, understanding that although she was a bit, actually super, weird, Yumeno was the most sociable among the three. Even, her rather ridiculous conduct may also be to light up the atmosphere. Matsuri remembered how the first time she met Yumeno, without even a greeting this girl just started to take pictures of her with drools by the side of her lips a told her to do skinship and hold her like wtf man lol. even when they knew of each other’s age, even if Yumeno turned a lot more polite but with her conduct it was questionable if she really respect Matsuri like her age should have deserved. LOL.

Looking back, Matsuri wondered if the three girls would be okay alone. If there was anyone to look after them. As she thought so, a new rhythm game notification came up in her Holocom which was about this “make your own rhythm game!” kinda thing. While thinking that, Matsuri also felt that it can’t be helped, she should tell Ferb her decision. Just as she thought so, a mail came from Ferb: “Matsuri-san, do you have time?”

In a cafe (I think), Murasaki, Ferb, and Yumeno gathered around to talk about the band and Yumeno was like, “I smell Matsuri-san!” and Ferb was like, “eh, is there even such thing?” “Oh you’re so pure, Ferb-chaaaaaan!!” or something and true enough Matsuri came (lol). Ferb actually gathered them all to give them the music sheets for each of their parts--and she said even if Matsuri had not given her decision yet and it was only for her to look at in case she is interested--tho Matsuri cannot read music sheets lol. Murasaki commented that even her light music club might have difficulty doing the drum score however (lol) and Ferb is like, I understand, but to be able to follow a song’s bit, the natural instinct, to play drums is what I think Matsuri has. And Ferb finally show her song to both Murasaki and Matsuri.

Both where impressed, agreeing that it was a good song (Yumeno: I feel like I will have nosebleed lol) and Matsuri asked just how long they had until the registration closed. Ferb was like, not so long (ehe) and Matsuri went like Feeeerb-saaaaan?? And turned out it was the end of next week. Matsuri asked if they had any reserve plan if Matsuri declined, and their options was finding a live house drummer acquaintance (which did not seem likely), Ferb’s light music club member (which also was not likely), Murasaki’s old man ojisan acquaintance (very unlikely), and last was what Ferb say “let’s just think about it when the time comes”. at that moment, Matsuri felt the responsibility of being the oldest between them, to give security (despite the fact that she did not really show herself as a mature person in her words or her hobbies and her outer personality and there did exist more mature person within nanasis than her), but seeing them in such a bind, made her felt like it was her duty as the oneechan between them and eventually she said, yes.

Ferb was like”yes for what?” LOL like none of them actualy believed she would do it. Ferb looked deep into Matsuri and said, “Thank you, Matsuri-san.”

However then there came the problem of how they would practice. Yumeno said things like, “aaah~ if only it’s a game, then Matsuri-san can definitely hit all the perfect score! and I will be in the land of beautiful girl Harem!” or something along that line, which remind Matsuri that there was a game which allowed them to make songs into game, and she would learn the rhythm from that software--saying she would take Yumeno to help her in her training since Yumeno was the one between the other three that understood games the most and how it works. Matsuri asked for a week time for her to do focused training and she also borrowed a drum set from nanasis studio. Murasaki asked for what she could help do for everyone, which Matsuri answered steadfastly, “the song.” And song it was decided that they would do it.

A week after that, in Nanasis studio, they performed the song for the first time. On Matsuri’s drum lines, Ferb commented how inwardly how Matsuri was lacking volume control, however she was properly keeping the beat--just like what she thought and for that time Ferb felt that she was not wrong at all in her decision, and Yumeno said once, if only Matsuri-san knew how to hit a drum properly, just about how to hit it the right way, then they would have made her a good drummer already. And when Murasaki’s voice finally hit it, Ferb was blown away at how she did it just right--really unlike the fact she only sang jazz in the past and at that moment, for the first time, Ferb felt like she could finally make a song that totally fits her image, her self, into reality. That passion perhaps something that she had never even felt even when she played with her light music club friends. That feelings of excitement filled her, even long after the song ended.

When it ended, when Matsuri asked if she actually passed, Ferb commented that despite the lack of volume control (on how she hit it too hard, or lack of speed control in her hit), she did--though just 1 song tok so much of Matsuri’s stamina already lol. Everyone was very positive in how it turned out and after a 10 minutes, they would proceed to record it. But there was another problem: the band had no name. None of them thought of a name and Ferb did not really bother about it and in the end they went with “Seto Ferb Band (temporary)” as their name (which Matsuri went like “are you serious?!”---well no one was taking Yumeno’s suggestion of “Ferb-chan;s Harem Kingdom” as a good name either).

After the session, Ferb came to a live house wondering about her light music club friends. There, another high school band was playing, a copy band playing 4U song. after enrolling to Nanasis, Ferb came to taste just what an exhilarating feeling it was to perform one’s own song instead of someone else’s, however why, why is it that even if it was not their own song, even if the one who perform is not 4U and even far from it, why did the audience have so much fun? And so that question and unease lingered in her heart.

So why I made this blog is to cope and rant and stuff

Yeah yeah I’m just a stupid teenager and my problems don’t ever really mean anything, especially when it comes to stupid high school drama, but I do have actual problems.

Here’s my stupid rant or what ever.

Two days ago I lost one of my best friends named Ahrlenny Wendy Hernandez, she was battling leukemia for little under two months, perhaps longer but that was when she was diagnosed, prior to that she had been in the hospital for a month ish due to having liver and gallbladder problems, she even got her gallbladder removed due to having stones. Anyways so she had missed out on a month of school and when she finally came back for little under two weeks, she was feeling extremely poor again. She went to the hospital and they did blood test after blood test after noticing an extremely low white blood cell count.

She called me and some of her our other friends in our chat and told us while crying that there was a massive chance of having leukemia. We reassured her and said it was unlikely and that if she did have it we would help her over come it and help her heal through out the entire process. The next evening, I get a group call in my a group chat with my little gang that included Wendy on snap chat. She is balling now, saying how she has it, Julianna and I once again reassured her that she would make it through this with us by her side over that call, then we told Sophia, Aileen and Raven that night, who then reached out to her to say the same as we did to her. We would help her heal, do cute stuff with her like videos for youtube about makeup and gossip and everything we could for her.

She started chemo, this was about a month and a half ago, maybe less. She was doing fine, the chemo wasn’t even making her sick nor throwup even. She even still had the energy to keep her streaks up the entirety of her poor health. She was texting us in the chat about doctor stuff. We would tell her the latest band drama and she would laugh or sass in a reply to what happened with us. It was simple enjoyable moments I should have paid more attention to.

We were told to tell certain friends in band about her having the leukemia, she didn’t want people to all know about it, whether fear of misjudgment or not wanting pity I’ll never really know. We told everyone we needed the very next school day. The day we told people, Aileen and I told people to make cards and such to give her when we were going to see her in the hospital for the first of two times. We got a white and purple orcid and two stuffed bear animals. But when we called the hospital that day after school she was in surgery for taking bone marrow out of her hip and we(Jacob, Aileen, my mother and I) decided to visit her the next day, though she said she wanted to see us either way. We wanted her to rest and promised it for tomorrow. We got an actualy card instead of some scratch paper, and had all the people who knew sign it to our best ability.

Aileen and I got picked up by my mom and we had the card, the flowers and the bears all with us in tale. We were excited to see her for the first time seeing for in about a week or two. We wanted to tell the tea irl now.

We got to the local hospital, asked for Ahrlenny Hernandez and put Aileen Martinez and Isabella Duncan for our visitors passes, though Aileen was Eileen and Martinez was Maritinez, but my name was spelt correctly haha.

We were then guided to Wendy’s room and go to see her cute, dumb, smiling face. Her Spanish only speaking family was there, her mother was talking to her sister, her Father was watching soccer on the TV and her little brother was as energetic as always. It seemed rather normal for them to be there.

We went over to Wendy gave her our gifts and our card, and one extra bad card that talked about being her plug from some kid in band once she got better, and for wendy to subscribe to his youtube channel. Werid plug but ight.

Anyways, it was pretty chill but Aileen and I were also pretty awkward around her family. We had fun, talked shit about some band kids, talked about what we would do after this all finished. Everything seemed so perfect, so calm, so hopeful.

I then got a text from my mom asking where we were as we had been in there for an hour, and she wanted to go home. We hugged Wendy goodbye for the second to last time ever. And went home. Then we kept texting in our snapchat groupchat, everything was going alright, chemo was doing it’s thing, it was looking up.

Three weeks later Aileen and I planned a sleepover on for February Second, where we planned to visit Wendy the next day and spend as much time as we could with her. We tried to bake cookies for her and her family, but at Aileens, she didn’t have butter, just this butter like spread, and no brown sugar just normal table sugar. We tried to make it work, but the batter cooked to odd for cookie like texture, so we tried to make two cookie loafs, the first one I messed up due to not baking it enough and the second one was pretty good if I do say so myself.

We slept pretty hard that night, and woke up to get our stuff together and go visit Wendy. My mom had work at 11:00am, and would give us a ride at 10:20am- it was 9:00am when she said this but my stupid ass read it as ten-twenty like in ten to twenty minutes. Rushing both of our selves ready we waited and then we realized the the wrong in my reading and waited.

We got to the hospital at about 10:45am, and asked for Ahrlenny Hernandez once again little did we know for the final time. We got to her room which had her(duh), her nurse, her mom, her dad, two aunts, and her little brother. It was p a c k e d. We went over to her, hugged her hello, and sat down near her bedside. She was getting chemo as we entered the room too. She had gotten pale but nothing near to looking deathly, she had lost some weight as well, and was eating a bad of sun chips and drinking water when she was getting the chemo.

I had a bag of mini-marshmallows and proceeded to eat about 4/5ths of the package, it stated to “have fun with your yum” but also to eat one at a time but little to late I was eating them by the handful. It was amusing to us three, even the nurse! So we talked and gabbed about the latest band stuff, like about gigs, fundraisers, drama, gossip and funny stories that she sadly missed. We were laughing and having a lot of fun. I told her about the cookie loaf situation which made her laugh, same thing happened when I explained that whole 10:20am not ten-twenty minutes. It was so fucking wholesome and fun, and I wish I got to savor it more.

At some point her uncle and cousin showed up and barley said hello to her and just started watching soccer which was pretty sad and funny all in one second. Her two aunts when they showed up hugged her and gave her a stuffed animal and food.

As we were talking about all the things we wanted to bring up she even asked us what color wig she should get, purple or blue? She said. Purple always worked great on her.

I started to text our chat to invite them to say hi to Wendy at the hospital but they had work or family problems and couldn’t go, so I texted my friend Gustavo, he was friend with Wendy and in the same band we both played in. We convinced him to come and said he wasnt gonna walk, but said yes. At some point she was supposed to get up and do some walking around the area to keep her self moving and such, but I convinved her to stop at this little side room that had this airhockey machine in it.

Of course she and I played against eachother, and it was a lot of fun, but mid game, in which I was agressivly playing, she stopped cause she had gotten a phone call from her mother, turns out Gustavo had shown up to the room a L o T quicker than we expected and so we walked over to him and brought him to the air hockey room, made jokes and had fun, I still however was playing pretty aggressively and at one point she didnt even have to try and I was pretty much playing against myself. It was pretty funny as I even hit the puck off the air hockey table top a few times like an idiot.

We finally rested a little and then we walked with Wendy around about two or three laps around that part of the hospital. We got back to her room and talked for a little bit more. But my mom was saying I needed to get home to shower and clean my room. So we said our goodbyes and hugged her for our last time ever. Aileen and I where there for nearly seven hours, when we finally left. We got a ride from Aileens mom. And that was the last time I ever got to see Wendy’s smile and hear her laugh for the last time.

We still texted for the following weeks, she told us little over two weeks ago that she was finally let go to go home, but that she would have to go to LA or Sanfransisco for better chemotherapy, She said La as in Long Beach she has family. And we wished her luck like we always did.

About three to four days before her passing, on Friday or Saturday, she sent us an update, her last one. She said she went back to the hospital because she had fainted onto the ground. She got her blood tested and once again she had extremely low white bloodcells. She said that she was sent home and told to eat every 2/3 hours and that she would be fine. We had little communication the day or two before her death. Mostly silence. None of us noticed reall, just thinking she needed time alone or something.

Tuesday morning she passed away, I don’t know if she went painfully or in her sleep. I don’t know if she was home or at the hospital. I don’t know if it was the leukemia, the chemo or if she got sick from her family. I don’t know. All I know is that that day I was talking about raising money for her to my school counselor and for two hours after I got home I was getting notifications from many friends if the rumors were true.

I was in disbelief, no no no! I was thinking it was some sick disgusting joke. I hoped it was. It wasn’t, her cousin posted on his social media wishing a good rest finally after a fight she had with her life.

The next night was spent getting all the photos I could of Wendy, I made about five posts on instagram/snapchat stories and four on instagram that day about her. Who she is and was to me. I also spend that night calling people to inform them of our loss of a musician, a friend, a sister and a family member. I called my old band director even. So many calls, so many texts, so many fucking tears. It took till Wednesday night to know it was real, a gofundme made by her sister to raise for her funeral and rest. Its all real.

She was taken away in the blink of an eye, she fought hard but lost. And I fucking hate that someone like her lost, she’s so fucking strong. I never got to say my last I love you to her. No last goodbye. No last stay safe. Nothing. Everything taken from her, her family and friends all so quickly.

Stupidly enough drama about her death accured after, the day after we had found out, literal hours after we found out, one of my friends posted a story to her instagram stating how she loved Wendy like a sister and how she’ll miss her and someone who hated Wendy proceeded to ask her “did u tho” hours after most of us had found out.

Then today, Thurday the 28th of February, finally a moment of silence was made, no one in my class and in many others did not stop talking during it all. And apparently it felt rushed and disingenuous by the person who had made the announcement about the now passed 15 year old girl.

It’s all fucked. This situation. But fuck man I just wanted one more minute to tell her how lucky I was to have her as my friend. But I didn’t and no one did get that minute.

Goodbye my friend. Stay safe. Please.

10. Nowe from Drakengard 2. So this game was incredible because you could fly a dragon and Legna was awesome. BUT I loved the main character Nowe because he was strong willed and he had the strenght to litteraly destroy the world because he wasn’t happy with how people were treated during this one (but then depending on the end he makes it better). Love made him grow.

9. Shiro from Voltron. My dear Shiro, you went through so much and still you think about everyone else before yourself. Too much ! But you’re a real leader, the right balance between insightfulness (is that a word ?) and friendlyness. You care about everyone and you think deeply. You are fucking strong and you will rock with the black lion (and have babies with Keith... Oops).

8. Wolfgang from Sense8. So he’s very different from me mostly because he’s very “physical” and sure about himself. Things are quite simple with him. He knows he’s sexy and he uses it for our biggest pleasure *coughs*. I’d like so much to be more comfortable with my body like he is, and protect the people I love, and not hesitating in shooting people that hurt me. He’s like, my bad side maybe, I don’t know, but I like him for those things.

7. Alicia from The Good Wife. She loose everything but she manages to take care of the kids and work, and she goes through big fucking shits all the time, because she’s a mother, because she’s a woman, because she’s in the shadow of her husband. She’s one of the strongest woman I ever met in a serie, she pulls through everything and she has a very very strong heart and opinions.

6. Gladiolus from Final Fantasy XV. Dat sweet boy. He’s the shield of the king, the rock that you can’t move. He’s handsome and he can take fucking pillars into his hands to destroy ennemies. The serious, the kind, the self-confident man that gives me motivation everytime I go to sport because he’s strong in every way. But he’s soft too in his way when he can and open-minded. He’s like the perfect guy honestly.

5. Cloud from Final Fantasy VII. I hesitated between him and Aerith but basically I love Aerith for the same reasons I love Yuna so I chose to pick Cloud because I didn’t want to make twice the same speech. He’s so pure and broken, and he rebuilt himself through the game like a boss. He loose someone dear to him and he goes through it and grows. He beats his fears, he understands what he loves and how much he wants to protect everyone.

4. Erwin from Shingeki no Kyûjin. This is a character I know almost only by fanfiction because I never read SnK’s manga (and I don’t want to, for obvious reasons if you know what I mean). He has a good balance between sacrifices and determination to find out more about everything. Plus, he bears all the weight of the fucking world on his shoulders because he takes decisions that are hard. I wonder how he sleeps at night honestly, but what he does has to be done and I think he prefers it to be him instead of someone else. Very good leader.

3. Yuna from Final Fantasy X. Again, self-sacrifice, desire to make herself useful, to help people around her. I’m glad I grew up with characters like her because they really put me on the good path to be kind and empathic towards others (maybe a little too much). She’s so strong, like she can actualy summon beasts to help her, and god I always get mad when there is that wedding scene. She’s so strong, she’s a real hero and again she bears all the world on her shoulders. And still she smiles and laughs like no one else.

2. Hijikata Toshizô from... a lot of medias. I’m cheating a bit for this character because he’s a historical figure from Japan. He basically transcended the class system of Japan, coming from peasant to samurai during the XIX century. Strong-willed, attached to his vows, determined to make his friend the best and the most awesome man of Japan (a little too bad he’s more famous than him but well). He made hard choices again, that were necessary, beared all the deaths of his companion and still pushed through life as much as he could.

1. Fenris from Dragon Age 2. I just love him. He was made as who he is because of shitty people, lose his memories because of them, but he cares too much about others and he lacks of self-confidence. He hides his hurt and fears behind anger, but he lets if go as the time goes and becomes soft and so lovely. He’s very human and he faces his demons and wins. I would beat the whole world for him, I would give him everything I have, and I would take all of his pain if I could. He will always be that mefiant angry cute elf that I can’t not romance. Puppy eyes.
