Buck & Eddie: Eddie calling for Buck
24 times Eddie called for Buck, 1 time he called him Evan and 1 time he asked if he was hurt
When Eddie and Buck talk to each other, Eddie rarely says Buck’s name.  However, when he does say Buck’s name or call for him, he says it with a purpose.
He’s trying to get Buck’s attention because he’s about to do something dangerous/reckless
He’s worried about him
He’s deflecting because he doesn’t want to tell Buck what’s going on with him
He called him Evan when he wanted Buck to understand he’s not expendable
He asked Buck if he was hurt after he got shot because he thought Buck was injured too
The different ways Eddie calls Buck’s name are important because he knows Buck and he knows how to talk to him to get his attention.  Eddie has loudly called for Buck before like he did during their argument in the grocery store in 3x5 “Rage”; he loudly called for Buck to stop in 3x18 “What’s Next?” when Buck was being reckless at the train wreck and he loudly called his name in 6x4 “Animal Instincts” because Buck was being reckless when he hopped on that victim’s bicycle to chase after the drunk driver who pulled off with Chimney in the car.
But Eddie has never SCREAMED Buck’s name the way he’s going to do it in 6x10 “In a Flash”.  In the trailer, he’s shown SCREAMING Buck’s name after Buck gets struck by lightning and it’s DIFFERENT.
Eddie’s going to SCREAM Buck’s name with PASSION because (1) he loves him and (2) because he’s never seen Buck’s lifeless body before.  After Buck’s leg got crushed by the ladder truck in 2x18 “This Life We Choose”, Buck was conscious and talking until they put him on a stretcher but Eddie was right there by Buck’s side.  In 3x1 “Kids Today” when Buck coughed up blood, Eddie saw him but he was able to quickly get to him just like the rest of the 118 along with Maddie and Athena.
But in 6x10, Buck will be in the air and Eddie’s going to be on the ground.
Buck’s biggest fear is losing Eddie and Eddie’s about to face one of his fears which is losing Buck. Remember Frank and Buck both asked Eddie in 5x13 what he was afraid of.
Will Eddie try to save Buck by climbing up the ladder or will he get struck before he has the chance? Only the showrunner(s), writers and producers know the answer to that question.

Smilers update
Tumblr media
So it's been about 2 months since I have gotten a new aligner, and now my teeth are feeling pain again.
My bottom set is done completely. My top set was causing issues because my last molar on the right side is way too wonky, so it was fucking up the fit for the whole aligner.
The Ortho decided to contact Smilers for them to propose a solution. Flash forward 1.5 months. No news. I called - apparently they DID get a response. Smilers' solution was to attach something on the inside of my bottom teeth, which apparently super hurts, cuz they Ortho said everyone comes back after 3 days to tell him to get it out of their mouth cuz it hurts too much.
So instead their solution is to saw off the last molar on the aligners. So it'll align all teeth but that one.
Tbh I'm pretty ready to be done with all of this, but I have 5x2 = 10 more weeks to go. That's a whole 2.5 months.
And then when I'm done, i can finally get a night guard to protect these more permanent retainers from my interminable grinding.

Oh thank God they aren't waiting till shit goes down to brief Team Flash.
LMAO Iris "what the newspaper says some shit? That's like Tuesday for us, bro."
Seriously though I'm tired of Iris being "tough". The best thing, maybe the only good thing, about Season 3 was that she was allowed to be soft and vulnerable and scared and sad. We badly need to roll back on this stoic tough chick trope. LET WOMEN BE EMOTIONAL FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
I miss Soft Princess Iris. :(
SINGH. I missed Captain Singh. He's like Barry's number one stan. "You got an intern working a crime scene without going through any hiring protocol whatsoever, Allen? Good job!"
Incidentally how can you "hire" interns if you don't pay them?
So. Now that we've seen a man become compressed into a block of meat, can we have some PG 13 post-coital Westallen nookie? This show's attitude to sex is so fucked up. Shishkebab people 96 times per season but zero hints of a sex life between a loving, committed couple.
Nora, I love you but you may actually be worse than your Dad at showing up to crime scenes with flimsy excuses...*flashes back to introductory episode on Arrow 2x8* nvm
That block of meat is making me hungry. Need breakfast.
"Please stop caring about me" LOL
Ralph is sort of growing on me. Granted, so could fungus.
Okay that was mean.
I really hope Barry also tables his family drama for five minutes to be there for his best friend. Caitlin and Cisco keep being deprioritized since S2 - S3 and its grating on me. Be there for your friends too, Barry.
Excuse you, going to Thailand and painting your toes is a great way to get over a break-up. However, I strongly advise against any drastic hair decisions.
Oh. Poor guy. Be gentle, Mad Dog West-Allen
(Get it? Mad Dog Lane? TNAOS? Ok then)
I do like when they show civillian casualties. It makes what they do seem more impactful.
Is Joe on paternity leave?
I like these West family subplots. Joe and Cecile are v cute.
Cecile reading the mind of your child without their consent is the opposite of being the perfect parent. Wait till she's out and raid her room for drugs like everyone else.
Barry is like me with teenagers. "When I was your age it took five minutes just to connect to the internet and your search history turned up on your phone bill shut your gob."
Oh Nora. *facepalm*
Idk why Barry always calls his villains out. He's a speedster with the advantage of surprise. Its stupid.
"Denser than people who still believe in love." I feel you so much Cisco.
I see the CW is still forcing us to be minutely acquainted with people's chins.
SERIOUSLY just let Barry take five seconds out to give Cisco a comforting pat on the back Im so tired of this.
LOL Barry you're giving Nora math homework? That's just harsh.
Lmao Cisco is getting Anne Hathawayed HANDS OFF THE HAIR BRUCE. **proteccs lush beautiful Cisco curls*
"Does that mean you think there's something wrong with me?" NO BABY YOU ARE THE MOST PERFECT AND BEAUTIFUL
"You cut my hair I cut you" YOU TELL HIM
Oh. Oh my. Oh.
I have never been so attracted to Cisco Ramon before. Clearly I have been a fool.
Heee she raised her hand. "But Dad, I wanna punch stuff!" Most precious bean.
Errm pretty sure your Dad killed the Sand Demon, Nora. I don't care about DC's no-kill rule but that was not his finest moment.
Lmaoooo welcome to fatherhood, Barry.
Maybe a stern little talking-to wouldn't hurt at this point.
Whenever she says "Dad" my insides melt a little more.
Okay, Barry and Iris need to draw some hard lines between their professional lives. The investigative journalist cannot just waltz into her husband's CCPD lab and look through his laptop. Literally you could have done this at home instead of the lab. One day they're going to be accused of evidence tampering.
Shit like this takes me out of a scene unnecessarily.
Barry: "NORA ISN'T LISTENING TO ME SHE THINKS SHE CAN DO ALL THESE THINGS BUT SHE CAN'T, NEMO!"
Joe: *internally laughs himself stupid*
So this is why parents want their kids to reproduce. The sweet, sweet karmic payback. xD
(Fourth grade? Barry came to live with them when he was eleven. Also pretty sure Barry kinda hated Joe for a while what with having arrested his Dad and being traumatized. I can see him hero-worshipping Joe a couple of years later maybe.)
I can't get over how hot Cisco is. Bruce better not have burned his iconic t-shirts tho.
Aww, Caitlin. That sucks. :( I know the theme this season seems to be fathers and daughters but you should really talk to Iris about absentee parents who faked their deaths.
No seriously this is a great bonding opportunity for them! I need to see a solid friendship between the two main female cast members so bad it's been four seasons please throw me a bone
Oh, step twenty seven is hitting me hard too. I think I might actually like Ralph soon.
Okay, real talk. Yeah the superficial stuff can't distract you from the truth that your relationship tanked. But that whole cry on your couch for two weeks, get away to a seaside with friends, getting a makeover, buying new clothes, redecorating your living space - these are also rituals of grief and helps you cope till you get enough emotional distance to deal with reality. Superficial stuff is what makes life bearable, okay?
The other thing is to give relationship advice nobody asked for
Moving on.
I love that Cait and Cisco are always there for each other.
Awww Barry's showing Nora what a fuck up he truly is loool.
Oh my God. Season 1 Barry. "Sometimes for people with our abilities the most impressive thing is restraint." WE HAVE COME SO FAR. I'M LOVIN' IT! *prouds*
Yessss Iris being as smart as the nerd herd!
GO TEAM WEST-ALLEN!
Young lady, you roll your eyes at your mother one more time and we're gonna have words.
Kinda hate that in order to give villains a chance against speedster powers you gotta significantly bring the latter down several IQ points.
Baby got moves! Nice!
Barry! What about those moves you used to lay out the ARGUS guards??
This fight would be more impressive is I could see jackshit. Lighting, people!
Hmm. Did Cicada just have a "Save Martha" moment?
Nora is so scared and worried for her father, poor babb.
YES MARVEL REFERENCE!
Wait, so they got their powers back?
Y'know he didnt have to vibe that to realize the obvious next step is confronting Caitlin's mother.
Actually that sounds like respiratory problem. New villain - Halitosis.
Oooh Future Spoilers Girl knows who Cicada is
Aaand that's a wrap folks.
Ngl I had hoped for more "West" in Team West-Allen but this was a solid ep.
Please have Nora call Barry "Dad" as many times as possible k.

Buck & Eddie: Eddie looking up at Buck
Could Eddie looking up at Buck in 6x10 “In a Flash” be a callback to all the other times he’s looked up at him?  It’s happened several times over the past 5 seasons which could mean Eddie saving Buck has been foreshadowed for a while.
Eight times Eddie has looked up at Buck and 2 times he will be looking up at Buck are included in the GIFs above and the explanations that coincide with those instances are listed below.
2x14 “Broken” - Eddie looked up at Buck while he was on the ladder trying to save Alex from the house fire but the ladder bent.
3x15 “Eddie Begins” - Eddie looked up at Buck while he was standing on the loft’s balcony in the firehouse.
3x15 “Eddie Begins” - Eddie looked up while The Well was collapsing with Buck above ground digging him out with his hands.
4x12 “Treasure Hunt” - Eddie looked up at Buck when he suggested they search for the buried treasure together.
4x13 “Suspicion” - Eddie looked up at Buck after he was shot by a sniper and fell to the ground.
4x14 “Survivors” - Eddie looked up at Buck while Buck was holding gauze to his gunshot wound.
5x2 “Desperate Times” - Eddie looked up at Buck while he was laying on a cot during the blackout.
5x13 “Fear-O-Phobia” - Eddie looked up at Buck after Buck broke down his bedroom door.
6x10 “In a Flash” - Eddie will be looking up at Buck when he gets struck by lightning.
6x10 “In a Flash” - Eddie will be looking up at Buck while his unconscious body hangs from the aerial and Eddie will keep looking up at him while he climbs the ladder to save him.

Musings about character arcs coming full circle in S7
I was recently rewatching 5X2 “Strangers” and subsequent episodes and I realized something about the character arcs that are finally resolving in S7. Basically the road map for several characters (5 characters) arcs is outlined when they walk into Father Gabriel’s church at the beginning of S5. Each character pauses at a specific area and focuses on something critically important to them and their development from S5 onward. I am putting these thoughts under a read more because it’s quite a bit of musing.
Let’s start with Rick first. The thing Rick focuses on when he enters the church is the alter upon which is a whole bunch of empty cans of food.  Now symbolically when you place something on an altar you are handing it over to a higher power and saying you relinquish control of it. At the time team family is desperately in need of food so it makes sense that there are empty cans of food on the altar but on a much deeper level the altar symbolizes one of Rick’s greatest apocalyptic flaws which is his need to always be in control.  Rick can’t accept that he might not be able to control some things. For example he could not accept Lori’s death and he literally fell apart because he could not handle the idea that he may have failed her. Rick clung so tightly to the people that were/are important to him that he felt he could not go on if something happened to them. That he would no longer have a reason to live. In trying to hang onto those he loved Rick defaulted to violence and being in control. The reason the flash backs of Herschel are in “A” is to create this juxtaposition between violent and in control Rick and nurturing Rick who hands control over to others. They show the audience the origins of farmer Rick. Farmer Rick learns from Herschel the importance of planting things and nurturing them as they grow and while doing so he trusts others to be in control at the prison. It’s about having a vision for the future and understanding that you give things the best start you can and then you have to stand by and watch them take off on their own. As well is also symbolizes that you can’t always be in control and that you have to allow others to help you to make things grow.  The altar symbolizes that Rick needed to let go of his control in order to embrace balance in his life. Jesse was an example of control freak Rick and what happened when he lost all balance in his life. Michonne brought balance back into Rick’s life and because of her hope he was finally able to find Rick the optimal leader. This Rick has achieved balance between his need to be in control and his desire to grow things. This Rick will be able to take counsel and he will be able to see the bigger picture beyond his personal loss. He will be able to trust others to help him grow things. This Rick has acknowledged the he could lose the love of his life and she could lose him and they could go on because their mission is greater than either of them. This Rick understands the higher purpose he is called to. This Rick could put his love for his family on an altar.
The next individual I’d like to discuss is Michonne who in the church focuses on depictions of two important biblical scenes. The drawings done by children depict the burning bush and forty years of wandering in the desert. I think these two items point to two very important parts of Michonne’s arc. The first is the burning bush. The story of Moses and the burning bush basically revolves around the idea that God tells Moses to lead the Israelites to the promised land.  I think it’s very significant that Michonne saw this picture because it’s basically her optimism that gets TF to the ASZ. Rick looks to her several times and each time Michonne steadfastly holds to the belief that they have to get to what essentially for TF amounts to the promised land. The second part of Michonne’s arc involves the forty years of wandering in the dessert. Starting in S4 the writers begin to explore Michonne’s story which is beyond tragic. We see the first hints of it when Beth wraps her ankle and then the story slowly unfurls. Over the ensuing seasons we come to understand why Michonne was so shut down when she was first introduced and throughout time she is shown opening up to both Rick and Carl about her past. She is slowly but surely bonded to these two individuals and to the Grimes family. She credits Andrea for helping her to start down the path towards healing but it’s really the developments in S6 and Deanna’s final push that help Michonne to realize that she can allow herself to be with Rick. Michonne spent a long time wandering because as she admits to Carl in S4 she was gone for a long time and she blamed herself for what happened to her son. She dragged Mike and Terry around as punishment and as a reminder of what had happened. In a way she became a member of the walking dead. We see her revert to this when the prison falls and then she makes the conscious choice to step away from that. For Michonne’s arc to come full circle she had to realize two things. One was that she is a leader. Deanna gave her the plans to Alexandria, she led team family to the ASZ (her optimism did), and she has been paired with Rick for that reason. The second was that she had to allow herself to be loved. She had to accept that she could be loved and she also had to accept that if something terrible happened that love wouldn’t just end. In 7X12 we see Michonne freeze when she thinks Rick has died and she almost allows herself to be devoured by a horde. This is symbolic of what Michonne allowed to happen to her when her son died. She froze and disappeared inside herself. She was gone. Michonne’s ensuing conversation with Rick in “Say Yes” brings Michonne’s arc full circle because he tells her that she is a leader in her own right and that if something happens to him then she must go on because that’s what they need to do for the people that love and depend on them. Michonne realizes that she can no longer revert to being gone because too many people depend on her and she must go on for them. She must be a leader for them.
So looking at Michonne and Rick’s arcs we see two characters who have spent three seasons slowly being woven together until they have overcome what in the past have been their characters biggest flaws. These are two characters who have struggled and regressed (and who may still at times regress) but who have essentially closed the character arcs they started on in S4. Rick has found the balance he needed. He’s come to terms with who he is. He’s the monster that could rip Joe’s throat out with his teeth but he’s also the man who can feed his people. He can grow things and he can focus on the future.  Rick has found his strength and the things that keep him going without clinging to them so tightly that he is destroyed if he loses them. Michonne has found her strength as well. She is a leader and she has found that allowing herself to love again has added a richness to her life that she was missing. She is grounded and strong and she is present (here) in what is happening around her. She controls her destiny it no longer controls her.
Next we have C@rol who upon entering the church finds Father Gabriel’s notes . The first significant thing she focuses on is “Thou shall not kill” then she flips through the bible past exodus to genesis. There are also a lot of other biblical themes around C@rol. In “Consumed” she talks about not going to hell if there is still a God and in “Same Boat” she takes the rosary beads which I don’t think was wholly about using them for her ploy. C@rol’s arc is defined by this moment in Father Gabriel’s church and it’s this. . . C@rol knows that what she did to Karen and David was wrong and it’s eating her up alive. She’s being consumed by her guilt and the only way she is going to deal with that is to go back to the beginning and face it. We see this journey over the ensuing seasons C@rol repeatedly running away from what she’s done. She makes excuses for it, she attempts to justify it, she refuses to accept Tye and others forgiveness for it because she won’t face her own guilt over her actions. She’s running from herself. In “Consumed” we see another road map for this as it shows what C@rol is being Consumed by. After C@rol is banished by Rick she ends up in a law office and on prominent display in the law office are the scales of justice. Ever since killing Karen and David C@rol believes that the scales of justice are out of whack for her. She thinks the wrong she’s done can never be righted and she believes all the negative things that continue to happen are her fault. For example she blames herself for not seeing what Lizzie was and for Mika’s death. Mika was another representation for Sophia and Lizzie represented the monsters of the world. Once again C@rol failed to see the threat and her daughter was killed. C@rol is then once more forced to confront the horrors of the world and deal with them in the form of what she has to do with Lizzie. It’s very symbolic. “Consumed” also gives us another window into what C@rol’s arc is when her story is interwoven with Daryl and Beth’s so closely. In “Consumed” C@rol says to Daryl at one point that she doesn’t want him to die and that she doesn’t want Beth to die. C@rol feels like she is being punished for what she’s done and that the people that she cares about are being taken away from her as punishment. It’s part of what eventually drives her away from the group. It’s about her not wanting to kill but also about her guilt and her belief that these people that she loves are being killed as a punishment to her because of what she’s done. Then C@rol is injured and taken to Grady and Beth is the one who saves her life and she at least suspects that if she doesn’t outright know it. Then Beth dies and C@rol’s fears are realized ten fold. Not only did Beth end up dying as she feared but she protected C@rol when she might have died as well. To C@rol this creates even more of an unbalance in the cosmic scales of justice and even more than that she is then forced to watch her closest friend as he suffers through this lose. Daryl is beyond lost and hurting and C@rol recognizes that and some of the distance that develops between them stems from the fact that C@rol blames herself for what happened. In her mind Beth should have gotten out of that hospital and it was her who deserved to die.
That being said C@rol’s time at the cabin in S7 was about her finally coming to terms with what she’s done. C@rol ran away from her family because she believed in her mind that her affiliation with them would lead to their deaths. She saw herself not as an asset to them but as a liability. Essentially that they would die to pay for her sins because that was how she would be punished by the universe or whatever higher power she holds to. When Daryl comes to the cabin in 7X10 C@rol needs to hear that everyone is okay because she needs to believe that by taking herself out of the equation everyone is okay. She again repeats to Daryl the line about not wanting people to die. She has to hear that by punishing herself (taking herself away from her family) that people have been protected. Daryl goes along with this because he can’t bear to hurt C@rol and he sees how upset she is but in reality it would appear that C@rol actually needed to hear the exact opposite. What C@rol ended up hearing from Morgan was that people died anyway. She ran away and punished herself and people still died. People that she cared about, and loved, and was close to died, and it wasn’t her fault. She needed to hear that so she could stop blaming herself for what was happening. Ben was also a part of that because he represented to C@rol Mika and Sophia all over again. These were young people that C@rol couldn’t save but she is finally beginning to understand that she can’t control the world. She can’t save everyone.  She is accepting that what she did to Karen and David was wrong but that she’s been forgiven for it. She’s finally gone back to the beginning and faced it and realized that everything that’s happened since hasn’t been as a punishment to her because she unbalanced the scales of right and wrong.
That being said I think C@rol going to the Kingdom and King Ezekiel was a huge step. She is finally processing and putting away all the hurt and guilt that she was carrying around. By giving her space but not leaving her completely alone King Ezekiel has given C@rol what she needed to heal. He let her know he respected what she needed to go through but that she wasn’t alone. The Kingdom is C@rol’s “Grove” all over again but this time it will have a different outcome. C@rol is going to put down roots with Ezekiel and Ben’s little brother and she is going to grow something that finally gives her peace and a sense of purpose. King Ezekiel is C@rol’s future because he helps to bring balance to her life and she to his much the way Rick and Michonne do for each other. C@rol has finally gone back to her beginning and examined what happened and forgiven herself something she was unable to do even after Tye forgave her. It would appear that while C@rol’s arc is closing it is not completely resolved. There are still some very unresolved things that are tied up with Beth and Daryl’s arc that should come into play before the whole arc is finally complete and also some things that I think we will see come into play in her relationship with Ezekiel. Confessions that will finally allow her to put her demons to rest and find the balance she needs between killing to protect those she loves and living in the world as it is without becoming a cold blooded killing machine.
Glenn is the fourth person to enter the church and be shown looking around. Glenn comes across a bible verse from Galatians 6:9 and studies it for a long time. It says “Let us not become weary in doing good” which is the core of Glenn’s upcoming arc. Glenn remains a symbol of hope through the remainder of his arc. He is shown repeatedly trying to help Nicholas when Nicholas is even trying to kill him.  Symbolically Glenn is part of the good in the world and the interesting thing is that it appears that this will be addressed and driven home in an upcoming episode. I don’t want to get into spoilers in this post but needless to say it’s an interesting close to this arc as well. It will also come full circle and Glenn’s arc has become Maggie’s because of his influence on her.
Finally we have Daryl who focuses on a wooden carving of the last supper. This carving is then focused on two other times throughout the church arc. So in total we see it three times and it is directly related to Daryl’s arc. The last supper has many connotations but the interesting thing is that it has one very obvious one that segways into the arc of another team family member who isn’t at the church and never will be. One of the most well-known things about the last supper is that this is where Jesus predicts his betrayal and foretells that before the next morning, before the rooster crows, Peter will deny knowing him three times. The other team family member we see this theme with is. . . Beth who observes the Caravaggio in Dr. Edward’s office and says “It’s beautiful”. The painting is. . . The Denial of Saint Peter and it depicts Peter’s denial of Christ. After Peter denies Christ three times he then breaks down bitterly and weeps because he understands what he has done. This particular painting is about those denials. In it Peter is issuing his denials to a serving girl and a roman soldier. Edwards makes some interesting observations about the painting stating that it doesn’t have a place anymore, that he found it on the street and saved it, that art isn’t about survival it’s about transcendence, and that it’s what makes humans more than animals. Then Beth states rather empathically that she sings and that she still sings. In this moment we are to understand that Beth is a symbol of art and that all of the things that Edwards is applying to the painting also apply to her. Later on the painting comes up again when Beth confronts Edwards about his behavior. It’s in relation to the theme of choices a common theme that is interwoven throughout the show and Edwards tells Beth that he doesn’t have choices. He says that when they arrested Christ Peter denied being a disciple because he didn’t have a choice. They would have crucified him too. That is Edwards excuse for allowing things to happen. He’s admitting that he won’t be crucified too. He won’t stand up for what’s right because he refuses to reap the consequences of doing so. He isn’t willing to risk his life or safety.
So in relation to Beth and Daryl we have the theme of the last supper and the denial of Christ by Peter. This is obviously intended to be a shared theme between these two characters. Where all the other themes above influenced the characters arc this theme also influences these characters arcs.  So the question really becomes what is the meaning behind this symbolism. So here’s my take on what this symbolism is intended to imply. On the most basic level for a Christian accepting Christ is about understanding that humans are flawed and sinful but that if they accept Christs love for them then they are redeemed. That they can be a good person because Christ forgives transgressions and his love is all consuming.  It’s about freedom, redemption, and love. These are themes that we see very strongly in Still and Alone between Beth and Daryl. Daryl is seeking all three and Beth is the one providing them. We are shown in a small window of time the person that Daryl Dixon will become if he feels free, loved, and forgiven. There is a lightness about him that is undeniable as he shows that he is finally hopeful and settled even with so many things in their lives uncertain. Daryl has still found a measure of peace with Beth that he has yet to be able to replicate. In this situation Beth becomes Daryl’s Christ figure or the person he looks to for the things in life that he needs and also she instills in him the guiding principle of their world which is that there are still good people out there in it and they deserve to live. They deserve to live and be protected and the sanctity of that must be upheld at all costs. At what amounts to Beth and Daryl’s last supper at the funeral home Daryl finally admits to Beth that he believes that there are good people and she is his reason for believing that.  Beth literally becomes Daryl’s savior.  She is the religion in his life. She is art and beauty and hope and life and he sees all of those things in her and he wants to know that they can survive in their world even when the world itself seems to deny that is possible.
That is the shear tragedy of what happens at Grady. Daryl literally watches his savior as she is crucified before him.  Much like the disciples watch as Christ is crucified Daryl watches as Beth is. Her Judas is Dawn. After everything Beth did for Dawn she betrayed her at the most pivotal moment. First she demanded Noah back and then after Beth stabs her Beth is shot. Beth saved Dawn from O’Connell and for that alone she owed Beth the opportunity for both her and Noah to leave.  It can be argued that Dawn felt she didn’t have a choice. She was afraid of her fellow officers. Afraid of showing weakness because she felt she would be killed as Hanson was if she did. Her fear drove her to make bad choices because she felt she didn’t have any. In her mind she couldn’t just let Noah go.  Judas arguably didn’t have choices either. The story had to go the way the story did so therefore someone had to betray Christ. But in the end we all have choices and that is an overarching theme in TWD.
So if Daryl and Beth’s story is the story of the last supper and Peter’s denial of Christ then Daryl is intended to be Peter.  We see Daryl throughout S5 truly trying to live by the code he learned from Beth. He believes that there are good people and he desperately trying to honor Beth by living by that code. Where it all falls apart for him is in S6 during “Always Accountable”.  Here Daryl again tries to live by the code of helping good people and the whole scenario blows up in his face. The episode is strewn with reminders of Beth because she is the code Daryl is trying to live by but in the end the whole scenario blows up in Daryl’s face and that’s where we begin to see him lose it. He is grieving and angry and hurting and his religion as it were starts to slip away from him. It’s at this point that the door opens for Daryl to issue his three denials of Beth and her teaching that good people still exist.  According to the story we must see that before dawn can come. Accompanying that will be Peter weeping bitterly when he recognizes that he has denied Christ.
So narratively speaking I posit that the episode East was pointing to the fact that the dawn was coming. The sun always rises in the east. It’s at that point that I believe Daryl’s three denials of his “good people” faith take place. The three denials in my mind are as follows and result from Daryl losing himself to anger and pain. They are him hunting Dwight after Denise’s death, him punching Negan during the line up even though he had to know that doing something like that would bring even more wrath down on team family ( I know he thought it would be him but still), and his acceptance of the punishment Negan derives for him because he believes that he deserves it (he loses faith in himself as a good person).  These three events read like a progression and they are because it shows the steps that strip from Daryl his faith in himself as a good person. Each one of these events is linked to Glenn in some way Glenn begging Daryl to come home, Glenn’s death, Daryl believing he deserves to be punished for Glenn’s death and each one of them strips away what Daryl has come to believe about himself and the faith that he has been desperately trying to hold onto. Glenn literally chases after Daryl begging him to come home because he is afraid he will get himself killed, then Glenn is killed for Daryl’s actions, and then Daryl allows himself to be punished for what happened to Glenn. Glenn is a symbol of good people he literally embodies it and we see here Daryl’s three denials of his faith as symbolized by Glenn.
Then we see Daryl’s redemption as with Peter. When Peter realizes his three denials he sees Christ, remember his words, and weeps bitterly. In that jail cell in 7X3 we see Daryl facing that same realization. The music that plays, the song, is symbolic of Beth and her words to him about being the last man standing and all the connotations that go along with that and with the polaroid of Glenn Daryl is literally brought face to face with his faith. It’s hugely symbolic because this is the point where Daryl realizes what he’s done and comes face to face with himself and his actions. It is here that Daryl finally finds his faith again. That is why Daryl when he’s brought before Negan  stands up so steadfastly and says that he is “Daryl”. He will not betray his faith anymore and even if he is clinging to it for someone else and not for himself he is clinging to it. In order for the dawn to come the new day to come Daryl had to face his three denials. We see hints of this theme with East and then in 7X1 when Negan and Rick talk about the coming dawn. We also see this with the metal rooster at the Junkyard group’s strong hold. Daryl has issued his three denials and he’s found renewed faith in his beliefs. It also appears we will see this reinforced for Daryl in an upcoming episode.  Lost and confused Daryl has his faith bolstered by someone very close to the person from whom his faith originated.
That being said the question is what happens when dawn comes. In biblical telling of the story Peter’s denials come before Christs crucifixion. I think TWD universe has chosen to alter that scenario a bit as it is simply a template and a theme not an exact blueprint for what is going to happen. In the biblical account Christ was resurrected and through his resurrection and forgiveness Peter found the strength to go on and live the faith he had waivered from. Daryl has the potential to become one of the most powerful characters on the show if he believes in himself as a good person and if he believes in his ability to go out and influence the world around him. We’ve seen hints of this throughout the last several seasons. As each member of team family comes into their own this season we are faced with the question of what does that mean for Daryl? For Michonne , Rick, and C@rol their arcs coming full circle are about finding balance and overcoming the flaw that has been plaguing them and preventing them from reaching their full potential. The same should therefore be true of Daryl as well.
How then does Daryl find his balance? If his greatest weakness has always been his inability to see the good in the world around him and have faith in that how does he overcome that? If they hold true to the biblical story then Daryl still needs to confess his weakness to the one from whom his strength originated.  If Beth was truly intended to be the Christ to Daryl’s Peter than the story doesn’t end with her crucifixion.  There is so much more that still has to play out. Narratively these themes are intended to be symbolic in nature and not an actual blueprint but the themes are still there. Daryl lived his whole life up until Beth believing that good people couldn’t survive. His childhood and subsequent adult hood were literal illustrations of why that was the case. He even says to Beth at one point that he doesn’t think the good ones survive anymore. That theme is repeated over and over in regards to Beth and Daryl also sees it play out with Glenn. With Beth he is led to believe that she can’t and won’t survive because she embodies all the things that don’t last in TWD world. That she is a good person, that she is art, that she is weak (she isn’t but others see her that way). That theme creates one very large one for Daryl that says that his experience says that good people aren’t  worth believing in because the things they embody can’t and don’t last. Why have faith? Why have hope? What does that get you but heartache and pain? He desperately wants to believe in them but he is too afraid of being hurt. He clings to those things when he has nothing else left because they give him strength but he doesn’t truly have hope in them.  If everyone else’s arcs are coming to a conclusion or at least reaching their main point this season I have to believe Daryl’s will as well and I am very curious as to what that conclusion will be because as of right now it isn’t all that clear in the narrative except for the fact that it should in some way involve Beth and the faith that she helped Daryl to come to understand because for him to achieve balance in life is to believe in good people existing and surviving even though the world says they should not be able to. Daryl needs to see that good really can triumph over bad and that happiness and love do have a place in the world.
