"Wait, I've seen that name before ?"

Yeah. He's the bird. In a few thousand years people are going to remember bird-him as the god of knowledge and human-him as Queen Ulevan's husband. Link between "Mecarevainen the phoenix" and "Mecare whose name is weirdly looking like a nickname for the first one and is a suspiciously powerful wizard" has been completely forgotten. He wasn't even trying to separate the identities.

Mecarevainen, Mecare or Meca for friends. Pronounce the "c" like a "sh" and you're golden.

This bird brought magic to Neseah. There's many ways to channel magic - drawing power from the things around you, from yourself, from a magical creature. These kinds of spells are often done through sheer willpower, and can be highly dangerous.

According to legend, Mecarevainen sought out Ulevan of Neseah, the nation's founder, because she was a powerful mage looking to protect her small territory from their larger neighbors. Linking their very souls together, he gave her the gift of runes - birthing the modern magical system most wizards use to this day.

It is unclear whether or not Mecarevainen is still alive today.

After all, the easiest way to kill a phoenix is for them to be soul-bonded to someone, and have that person die.

The Nesean castle was eerily quiet and empty of life. The dead were strewn about in its corridors and the prince was desperately hoping the hunch that tied a knot in his stomach was wrong.

Prince Vamir of Elfen finds his fiancée, Renia of Neseah, murdered by king Keryth of Elfen... his grandfather.

Recurring Nightmares.

Sometimes the fact that Abron looks a LOT like his grandfather, Keryth, who murdered Maran's family and also stabbed Maran that one time, hits a bit hard. Sometimes Maran's nightmares get weird about it.

Neiza of Neseah

At 36 years old, she's the youngest Nesean princess. Her hobbies include fistfighting her younger brothers, especially Maran, flirting, and sword fighting.

Notes.

She spends a LOT of time outside of the castle, usually in outfits that don't yell "noblewoman".

The most impolite of all of her siblings. If you know her from a diplomatic outing, you won't realize it, but if you're her friend from abroad trying to learn Nesean ? Oh the first things she will teach you are the swears.

Now that her older brother Elyzen is married and living abroad, she has become the family's most skilled diplomat and strategist. She does have work to do.

As she's fairly proficient in sword fighting, she did learn a spell to summon a sword just in case.

In another life, she would've been the personal guard in a guard/person they're attached to romance.

She is the first of the royal family to die, challenging Keryth of Elfen to a duel in an attempt to protect her parents. She is not good enough to win.

Neseah is a very small, mountainous kingdom. Most of its resources are ores and magical gems mined from the mountains, the trading center that is Rihvminev at the crossroads of the easiest paths through the mountains, and to some extent, garment making.

Considering the value of gems, inert and magical alike, it is no wonder its larger neighbor one day decided to crush it.
