Evermore: Chapter 1

Bruce Banner x Reader

Description: This is Chapter 1 of a slow burn fic between the reader and Bruce Banner. The overall rating is 18+ because it will turn NSFW in the later chapters.

You were in the kitchen of the Avengers compound. It was your first anniversary of being an Avenger. So Tony wanted to throw a party to celebrate your “adoption.” You had just turned 21, and your coworkers thought it would be the perfect time to introduce you to drinking.

So, to prepare for tonight, you and Peter were making cupcakes. “You know, this seemed a lot easier on the Tasty video.” Peter mumbled as he tried to create galaxy icing.

You looked up from carefully pulling the first batch of cupcakes from the oven. “Use the toothpicks to swirl the colors, not a spoon.” You instructed as you placed the hot tin on the counter.

“Whoever came up with this recipe had too much time on their hands.” Peter noted as he began to swirl the blue, purple, and pink colors with a toothpick.

You giggled softly and placed the second batch of cupcakes into the oven. You heard footsteps come closer to the kitchen, two voices conversing softly. Soon, Tony and Bruce entered the kitchen.

“Hello, tiny bakers.” Tony greeted you and Peter.

“Hello, tiny men.” You greeted in return.

Tony scoffed and looked to Bruce. “Excuse me? Tiny? We are average height.” He defended.

Bruce chuckled and leaned against the counter. “It smells great.” He said.

You smiled proudly and motioned to the cupcakes cooling on the counter next to him. “Thank you. They were made with love.” You stated.

Peter began to pour the icing mixture into a clear bag for decorating. “I don’t know about you, but I’m making these with neutral feelings.” He said.

You rolled your eyes and hovered your hand above the cupcakes to test the temperature. “Will you be coming to the party tonight, Dr. Banner?” You asked.

Bruce stood up straight and began to walk back over to where Tony stood. “Of course, Y/N. It’s your adoption anniversary. Besides, someone has to be the sober monitor.” He responded.

Tony rolled his eyes. “Bruce, I already told you that we don’t need a sober monitor. What’s the fun in that?”

Bruce crossed his arms. “Keeping my wits about me and making sure nobody is dying of alcohol poisoning.” He responded, jabbing Tony in the chest with his index finger.

“Whatever. Let’s go finish up the trial in the lab so you can start being sober earlier.” Tony deadpanned as he and Bruce began to walk towards the lab.

Peter laughed slightly as he opened a sprinkle container. “Dr. Banner is such a dad.” He joked.

You leaned against the counter, resting your chin on your hand. “More like daddy.” You blurted out. Then your eyes widened and whipped your head to Peter.

Peter stared at you with wide eyes, frozen from pouring sprinkles into the icing mixture. “Did you just call Dr. Banner ‘daddy?’ As in you want to fuck him?” He managed to say.

You blushed heavily and crossed your arms. “I mean…he’s…I just think he’s really hot. And sweet. And caring.” You mumbled.

Peter crossed his arms with you. “Y/N, he could be your literal dad.”

“Daddy.”

“STOP IT.”

“So what if he’s older? Wanda is in love with a literal robot. Cut me some slack here.” You defended.

Peter narrowed his eyes at you. “Listen, Y/N, as your best friend, I have to beat up any guy who breaks your heart. It’s Bro Code. But Dr. Banner has anger issues that’ll send me to the emergency room.” He explained.

You laughed and waved him off. “Peter, don’t worry. It’s just…it’s only a crush, okay? He’d never feel the same way about me. He thinks I’m a kid.” You said before grabbing the icing from him and starting to ice the cupcakes.

Peter heard the slight sadness in your voice and placed a hand on your shoulder. “Y/N, don’t think like that. You are a badass, and he would be stupid not to be interested in you. Just flirt a little with him at the party tonight, blame it on the alcohol, and see how he reacts.”

You raised an eyebrow. “That sounds like a solid plan…have you ever done that before?” You asked.

Peter shrugged. “I did it once to MJ before we started dating. Except she’s hard to read, so I learned nothing that night.” He replied.

Shanks

When he went to college he had double-majored in philosophy and literature. He ended up pursuing philosophy further and became a philosophy professor.

Partied quite a bit and hung out with buddies on weekends as a student. Somehow he miraculously kept up with all his work (even with the hangovers) and got really good grades in his classes. 

The professors and teachers didn’t really like him as a student because he would talk a lot and distract people (especially when he had classes with Mihawk). But they appreciated that he did all his work and was willing to give advice to others who needed help but didn’t do their work for them.

As a professor, he gets along well with most of his coworkers. Shanks doesn’t forget their birthdays and will get them a small cupcake or card, something they appreciate.

He still will go to bars or hang out with his buddies but not at the high rate he did as a student. Often can be seen at the coffee shop on campus for lunch with Mihawk, a student, or one of his ‘crew.’ 

Laid-back, very willing to help his students. Doesn’t cave-in to the suck-ups though, but he will still be jovial around them. Teaches the material really well and isn’t the type to teach straight from slides. Often encourages discussion in the class or lecture and will use those discussions for quiz material. Does require attendance for the most part, but a few missed days is fine by him (he will notice if someone has missed more than a few).

If he has a smaller class, he will go around and shake everyone’s hand and ask how they are every day (I legit had a professor do this in my Indo-European class this past spring semester, he only skipped one day, I was a bit shook).

Mihawk

As a student, he double-majored in literature and ancient history. He ended up sticking with literature and became a literature professor focusing on Spanish linguistics. 

Studied a lot as a student, and kept mostly to himself until around his junior year which is when Shanks started dragging him out occasionally. He did really well in his classes, but got points taken from some of his classes because he didn’t participate a lot.

The professors either liked that he was quiet or disliked that he was quiet. Some of the teachers would scold him though because whenever Shanks had a class with him, Shanks wouldn’t shut up so both of them got scolded. Mihawk wasn’t very happy and would glare at Shanks for it. Shanks didn’t care. 

As a professor, he keeps his personal life and his professional life very separate. The only other coworker he lets see his personal life is Shanks but that is because he never leaves him alone (in his perspective- in Shanks’ perspective they don’t meet up enough).

His coworkers are sometimes wary of him because he can seem cold at times, the ones he works with for longer amounts of time are used to it though. 

Most of his nights are spent reading, drinking a bit of wine, and/or grading. Mihawk also owns a really nice house, so usually, he reads and drinks by the fireplace.

His teaching style is a bit unique. He doesn’t do lecture slides either, but he doesn’t do full-blown discussions. Mihawk will assign pages and expect them to be read, then he will ask questions and gauge the students’ understanding. After he will go more in-depth about the material. The type of teacher who expects his students’ to take plenty of notes on what he is saying especially since it will show up in some portion on the tests. 

Willing to help, but the student needs to have at least tried a lot and can not continually go to him for help or he just won’t help.

Really harsh professor and he can grade very harshly depending on the level of the course. Teaches in a flat-emotion way, so it can put students to sleep (don’t let him catch you because he will remember and if you need help then it is your fault).

Buggy

As a college student, he had majored in theater. Since he was really good at being dramatic, the university asked him to work for them so now he is a teaching assistant and the one who signed off on the Drama Club. 

Didn’t study a lot and would party often as an undergraduate. It affected most of his classes so he got average grades. His best classes were drama, theater, and dance. He had to take one literature class because of the curriculum and it ended up being in the same class as Shanks, who he had gone to high school with; needless to say Buggy wasn’t happy and the professor hated both him and Shanks because they were noisy.

The professors that taught subjects pertaining to his major liked him, particularly because he was really enthusiastic about it. All the other teachers and professors didn’t really like him because he would doze off. 

As a teacher, it is a mixed bunch of feelings he receives from his coworkers. Some like and respect him, others don’t like him. The business professor (Crocodile) especially seems to dislike him, so Buggy avoids the business department; something Shanks teases him for. 

He still goes out to drink at bars with a few of his friends. Shanks tries inviting him sometimes too. Shanks gets rejected for inviting him sometimes. Shanks doesn’t take it to heart but complains about how “we could have been high school pals sticking it out for life” even though he agrees they shouldn’t be ride-or-die friends either.

His teaching style can be all over the place. But he really gets the students’ attention and they all seem to do well in his classes. Students either love or hate him too, most the drama and theater kids love him though. He also is very active in helping the Drama Club. The Drama Club is basically his cult, Buggy thrives on it.

Materials/Methods, Discussion, and .... Conclusion

In the past week, I’ve been really absorbed in my research. As a recap, the lab focuses on a multimodal brain imaging technique combining MRI, PET, and EEG. My job this summer has been to compare attenuation correction methods for PET images taken in these trimodal studies, because the EEG cap causes artifacts in the PET images that need to be removed. Last week I spent a lot of time working on my paper and poster, which I’ll present at next week’s research symposium. I’m still finishing up these things, and have also shifted my attention to writing an abstract for the 2019 BMES conference - I want to present my research there this fall. 

In wrapping up and writing about my research, I’ve been reflecting on the internship as a whole. At the beginning of the summer, I felt a little bummed about my project - I was hoping it would involve more hands-on image processing, which is something I’ve gotten very excited about in the past year. Once l really dug into the project, though, I began to enjoy the work. I also attended many interesting seminars in Julich, learning all about image processing and medical imaging modalities. Even if this research experience wasn’t exactly what I expected or isn’t exactly related to what I want to study going forward, I’ve gotten a lot out of it, and I hope I’ve made some good contributions too. 

This summer’s work was mainly valuable because it was my first time taking a research project from start to finish, rather than chipping in to pieces of someone else’s work. I am so grateful to have had that experience. I learned how important it is to take good notes (especially in a project with mine, when you’re dealing with a million different images/data points/etc!). I learned how to write a solid abstract (very important) and how to choose the best comparisons or statistical tests so the results have the most meaning. For the most part, I was dealing with my own results and had to make my own decisions - I had support, but definitely no hand-holding - and I think that made me a better researcher.

I have little in the way of other life updates - I’ve mostly been working, running, spending time with friends, and hanging out in Aachen. This week, I expect to do more of the same. I’m not sure whether I’ll travel this coming weekend. I feel a little sentimental about next week being my last one here, so although traveling is cool, I might want to stay in Aachen and soak in the atmosphere here. 

I did stumble across a great spot in Aachen this weekend (actually, it was a recommendation from my friend). We wanted to meet up on Sunday to do some work, and she suggested Barbarella, an adorable cafe that’s almost cloyingly sweet in how pink and frilly and cupcake-y it is. I absolutely loved it, and felt like I was at a fancy tea party. All I ordered there was a hot tea, and even that was special - it came with a little dish of sugar and a cute mini pitcher of milk.

My next post will be my second-to-last! This summer really has flown by, and I’ve realized how short 10 weeks actually is. I’m dreading having to say goodbye to the people I’ve met here. On the other hand, though, I miss my family and my routines at home, and it’ll be nice to get back. Hopefully, this last week and 4 days will be packed with barbecues and dinners and pool days, because I want to absorb Aachen (and spend time with my friends) some more before I go.

April Ramble: Eye Troubles, Hair Uncertainties, and Doll Instanity

I’m gonna try to do a monthly update about stuff from now on.

So, Lots of stuff has happened. and at the same time lots of stuff ...hasn’t...happened.

Eyes:

I’ve finished Erasii’s mouth and right eye. However, my confidence with dealing with resin came back to bite me in the ass. Severl years ago, i tried to start a project where i would make large plushes (like Erasii’s size with a wildly different pattern) or all the remnants and i started with Azur. I didn’t get past sewing the arms and legs, and thats because i started on the eyes right away. I used the exact same methode as this time: sculpt an eye from polymer clay, make a mold, cast the eye dome, attach a photo of the eye behind it. Simple. easy. Lmao. Nope. I recall casting three eyes and every one of the had bubbles. every one of them was cloudy. one was very sticky. I gave up back then, and the project was since abandoned.

Until two weeks ago, where I thought i’d done enough research to know how to do it right. Except i forgot that resin has a fuckin vendetta against me i swear to god.

The first eye attempt developed holes at the dome, aka: the front of the eye. This irritated me because when i poured the resin, it was super clear for two hours before i checked it and suddenly: a fuckton of bubbles. I havn’t no idea where they came from. So i tried again (also tried to cover the first attempt in more resin after pokeing holes to the bubbles, which.....ended poorly.) and poured another cast. i watched this version religiously, and it was amazeingly clear! I thought it went perfect.....until i went to check if i could remove it after four days of letting it cure and it was still completely liquid. two extra days did nothing. Evidently, I did not stir it properly enough (i call bullshit, i stirred for three minutes. i timed it.) and i had to scoop the resin into the trash and clean the mold. by far the most agaonizeing part of this one was that it was still completely bubbleless like w h y must u hurt me.

By this point, I’m incredibly irritated. Whenever I get the measureing and stirring correct, my cast developes bubbles for no damn reason. whenever my cast doesn’t develope bubbles, it doesn’t cure. I have browsed forum after forum, video after video, did every trick i could find, fallowed the instructions to the T. and still, my resin has failed to turn out.

I am torn, honestly. I am so pissed at my inability to cast resin properly that i’m determined to keep trying to get it right. but at the same time, i’m wasteing resin and not making any imporvments. on the other side, My mom has a coworker who owns a jewlery buiseness with her husband and most of their peices use a really nice clear casting material. I’m wondering if I could ask them if they’d be willing to make me a complete eye as a commission. I havn’t any idea how they make their casts, however (i assume molds, but not sure) so i’m not sure. i’m also unsure if their casting material is a type of glass. I’ll ask about the durability of the material, and keep it as an option if everything else fails.

I currently have a third eye in the mold. i havn’t checked it since i poured it. i’m scared to, thb. i don’t want to be dissapointed.

Dragon:

On a more lighthearted note, If yall rememeber my dragon pattern from a while ago, i started on that plush. Originally i was just going to work on it until i got the rest of the stuff to finish erasii, but since his eye is taking forever and i havn’t been able to get the yarn to the correct length for his hair, i’ve gotten a lot of it done. the wings and batting inside are completely done (witht he exception of turning and sewing the finger details+stuffing) which was the largest part of the project. I started working ont he gold tail decor but i need to pull out an entire side since the peice didn’t match up properly. i was going to leave it, but i dont want her to look ugly int he end so about two hours of sewing earlier are down the drain Lol.

Hair:

Returning to Erasii, for more bad news, I’ve decided I can’t use yarn for his hair. i can’t get it long enough. I also can’t make a wig for him like i wanted to try, because i forgot his horns existed. Instead, i’ve decided to order saran hair. This....doesn’t sit well with me. I was going to try wefts this time, but i dont feel comfortable attching them dirrectly to his head. but i havn’t any idea how else to attach them either. i was thinking maybe glueing? or somehow sewing the hair directly into the head? the bangs and sides are the main ones i want to look nice since the back of erasii’s head is litterally just A Mess of short hair. I dunno. i’m ordering a crapton of hair, so we’ll see what i can do when i have it in my hands.

Dolls:

I’ve made the mistake of watching doll customizations. and i wanted to do one. except i couldnt make up my mind, and now i have three planned whoOPS

The first one is Pumpkin Pie, a pumpkin themed girl I want to make arund halloween. I have an orange body thats faceless and lacking hair bc it was from a create your own monster kit. she’s the perfect starter.

The second one was the original one i wanted to make, Nyoul. My little girly boy with a taste for cupcakes and human flesh. He was the reason i first went through the way-too-big box of dolls my mom and i bought years ago (over 500 dollars worth like srsly.) to find a duplicate to tear apart. but surpriseingly, we didn’t have any duplicates. We have three frankies, yeah, but they were all different versions, so i didn’t feel comfortable tearing any of them apart. Most unfortunately, this conundrum gave me time to lament, during which time i keep peeking at my Gooliope. She’s 17 inchs high, and i loved that size. I didn’t dare ruin her (she’s by far my favorite) so i kept an eye out for other 17 inchers. And as luck would have it, while stopping by toys r’ us the other day, I noticed one in the clearence bin. orignally 30bucks, dropped down to 15. not bad. the reason for this was because the doll (a clawdeen) was a little bit damaged. both her ears have broken bits and theres a lots of weird plastic at the seems. not so good for a child, a miracle gift from the doll gods for me. i expected to feel a little guilty buying a doll away from a potential kid, but because this one is damaged, i don’t. parents would have told a little girl to put this one back and grab another one anyway, so no harm in giving this little misfit a home x3

There are some....drawbacks, however.

Nyoul already requided heavy modification (ie: tiddy-be-gone) and now he needs even more. I was originally aiming for a frankie, since she has a lighter skin tone and no ears, since my concept for Nyoul has him as very pale. this is because his outfit will have a lot of color and having his skin be near-white would allow them to pop like on a canvase. he’s also aupposed to look like a doll, but also sickly. Cute, but not quite right. I’m going to have to cut off the ears (and boobs), and then repaint the entire body. I do feel.....gross, about doing that. it feels insulting and wrong. But if i’m going to put all this effort into makeing him, why shouldn’t i make him completely what I want?

on the upside of workin on him, I get to make a prop eventually! I love doing that! he carries a big-ass axe and long scissors.

Nyoul’s going to be a very long project. This is why I want to finish both Erasii AND the dragon before i even start him. So Clawdeen’s just chilling with her deformities for a couple of weeks Lol.

And lastly.....my ball joint doll.

Years ago, i purched a ball joint doll from someone used. I’ve always loved ball joints, but they were all too expensive. I was so excited to have a BJD at last, i developed an entire design for her that sadly failed to come to be. I had a lot of trouble as a newbie seamstress back then that i eventually gave up, and tossed her into my closet for a few....years.

and then i took her out of the closet and put her in the attic for several more years. I rescued her afew days ago, and i feel super guilty. I never even put her pants or shirt back on!

I dislike the original design i had for her, so i’ve been trying to think of what to transform her into. I was thinking about a demon popstar, so i could make horns and wings and a tail, but....her face doesn’t fit. she has a very serene sad face, lidded eyes. I’m not sure if i could paint her face to make her look more evil or mischevious or a diva. I really want to try tho. I might have to save it for another 17 incher monster high tho. i keep seeing the popstar design with highheels and my BJD has flat feet. and I can’t order new ones because they’re expensive and also i have no idea what modle doll i even have so whoops.

if i do move ahead with that idea tho, i’ve taken inspiration from Sia and Lady Gaga (and Billy Joe Cobra if i’m being embarisingly honest) especially witht he hair idea. a boxy neck length thats pure white on top, but each later under is a different color of the rainbow with some rainbow bangs. She’d also have sunglasses, piercings, tattoos, long fake nails....just so much stuff.
