A bright smile adorned your face as you ran through the flower field with your cousins, Lucy Gray & Maude Ivory.
You and the Covey were showing your boyfriend, Coryo, the secret spots of paradise you had found during your time in District 12. Since the Seam wasn’t the most peaceful place, you and your family opted to find your own sanctuary.
You always had, specially when you were kids, before you got rounded up by the peacekeepers. You all moved where the wind took you, never staying in one spot for long.
You missed it.
But, this was okay, you thought to yourself. You still had some of the people you cherished most, some you had lost along the way.
You were grateful regardless, enjoying the time you spent with your loved ones.
Lucy Gray’s laugh rang in your ears as Maude began to sing another one of her tunes she had came up with.
Out of breath, the three of you slowed down, walking at a normal place.
“Lord, that kid. She’ll be singing until she goes to the grave.” You joked, your thick accent smiling with your features.
Lucy laughed with you, locking your elbow with hers. “Sounds like a good way to go if you ask me.”
You nodded.
Lucy Gray sent a smile your way before breaking off to catch up to Maude Ivory, who was bent down ahead of you, looking at some swamp potato, or Katniss, as Lucy liked to call it.
You shook your head with a smile as you heard Lucy tell her for the 10th time that it was too early for it to be ripe. Sighing softly, you enjoyed the flowers surrounding you, the sunshine on your skin, and the wind in your hair.
That was until you felt the grip of your lover on your hips, your heart immediately soaring in your chest.
He walked with you, his hands still on you as he came to walk beside you now.
“It’s beautiful out here,” You murmured.
He looked to you with a smile, the hand that was around your waist now going to grip your hand. “Where did you say we were going again?”
“To the lake.” You smiled. “Maude Ivory found it a couple months ago when we were explorin’.”
He hummed in delight. “Haven’t swam in ages.”
“Well, I’m sure you’ll love it,” You linked your arm with his, leaning your head on his shoulder with a smile. “It’s almost as gorgeous as you, darlin’.” You teased.
He shook his head, breaking eye contact with you. “I doubt that.”
“You’ll see, Snow.”
After more walking and chasing after Maude, you and the Covey finally arrived.
Maude immediately took off, running into the water, the others following suit.
You turned to Coryo with a grin as you slipped off your sundress, leaving you in your cyan swimsuit. With a wink, you turned on your heel and ran for the water, diving in.
When you resurfaced, you were met with a splash of water and saw white hair emerging from the water.
You felt his hands creep up your back before you saw him, a smile gracing your face. He gripped your waist, pulling you into his chest as he kissed your head.
You sat in his embrace for a while, simply enjoying your time with the boy.
“Thank you for this,” He whispered into your hair. “I mean it.”
You turned around in his arms. “What do you mean?”
“For taking me out here, showing me your space. And taking me away from that god awful district.” He joked with a smile.
You laughed. “You’re right. It’s wretched. If it wasn’t for the Covey, I would’ve made a run for it a while ago.”
He stopped for a moment at your words, his eyebrows furrowing. “You would?”
You nodded. “Yes. I hate it here. The peacekeepers rounded us up a year or two ago. Killed my and Lucy Gray’s mama in the process. A lot more too.” You sighed, looking down at the water. “Before, it was so nice. We had our own family. Since we been here… It’s been a struggle, I’ll tell you that much.”
His hand came up to cup your cheek. “I’m sorry. I’ll make sure that’ll never happen again.”
“You can’t promise that, Coryo. And that’s okay.” You sadly smiled, taking his hand and kissing it before swimming to your family.
The white-haired boy stood still in the water, watching you swim away as he processed your words.
He’d prove you wrong.
He was sure of it.
After all, Snow lands on top, and he was surely taking you with him. No matter what.

The Valley Song
Tumblr media
Requested: nope, I just wanted to write this
TW: just Coriolanus’ being himself.
Pairing: possible Coriolanus x reader, Sejanus x reader, Lucy gray x platonic!reader
Authors note: Listen to this for the story. I imagine this is what the reader sounds like when singing <3, I’m also changing the lore a little to the reader wrote the valley song to fit the story :)
The Valley Song Series: Part 2 -> Part 3
The Hob was filled with people as usual. The crowd of people made the heat even more unbearable, but everyone arrived to hear the Covey preform as always. The summer heat caused sweat to drip down everyone’s faces, but no one seemed to mind as they awaited the Covery to preform.
Drinks were being passed sound eagerly as the members of the district awaited the sound of the music and voices that allowed them to escape just for a few hours.
Coriolanus Snow stood towards the back of the Hob, Sejanus by his side as they spoke to his bunkmates, what were their names? Smiley and Bug. Such stupid names, Coriolanus thought he to himself as he leaned against the back, unsecured wall of the hob.
It wasn’t always his first idea of what to do in their night off, but then again they were in District Twelve…there wasn’t much to do to begin with.
Coriolanus’ attention was turned back to the stage as eager whoops and applause filled the Hob as Lucy Gray and the rest of the Covey made their way on stage.
With their clothes and make up, the girls had flowers entangled in their hair. It made it seem like they had rolled around in a field before coming up on stage. It was intriguing, but very much district, and it made Coriolanus internally scowl.
The covey continued to play for a few hours, rotating songs and singers. Giving each other a break, Maude Ivory sang for a while before Lucy Gray returned. Of course she held the audience in a captivated gaze at the sound of her voice.
Coriolanus and the other off duty peacekeepers were no exception as she twirled around the stage with her black guitar in hand. It was a sight, certainly one that would make her plenty of money if she came with him back to the capital. She would make a pretty capital girl, once she was cleaned up and better fed at least, Coriolanus thought.
The end of the night was winding down, and everyone was exhausted from the dancing over the last few hours. Lucy Gray panted softly before approaching the microphone once more.
“District Twelve ya’ll have been amazing as always,” she said with the biggest grin, like it was a privilege to be preforming at the Hob in the lowest district in Panem.
“And just before we go for the night we got a special treat. My cousin Y/N Rose Baird! She got an awful special song for y’all tonight to finish us off.. y/n!” Lucy gray turned and beckoned her cousin up front.
A girl, maybe not much older than Lucy Gray, maybe a year or two stepped up wearing a pink blouse and off white skirt, her hair was done half up, help of what looked like baby’s breath through her hair.
Coriolanus’ eyes widened a bit at the side of her, the soft rouge on her cheeks and pink on her lips. It was soft. Not harsh make up like Lucy gray had worn, but very little.
“Oh wow…” he heard Sejanus’ voice beside him, and for a moment he had completely forgotten he was there, “she’s beautiful,”
Sejanus was right though. This Y/N Rose was beautiful. Even from the way that she held the old brown guitar in her hands, everything about her intrigued him. The softness in her eyes and expression. Glancing around the room, he felt a hot jealously spring through him as he saw many of the other men looking at her the same way.
They didn’t deserve to look at you that way. You were too gentle, too soft and vulnerable. He could tell by just looking at you. The shy way you were glancing around the room. You preferred the background, and he liked that.
Lucy gray was always upfront, bold. Abrasive. But that wasn’t you. You weren’t like your cousin, who had killed in the games, you would never hurt anyone. And you needed protecting. He could do that.
“Thank y’all for comin’” Y/N’s voice rang into the microphone and he couldn’t help but stare. In the corner of his eye he could see Sejanus almost making heart eyes.
“This is a song I wrote a little while ago. Lost someone as we all have. Hope y’all like it,” she said nervously before she gently began to strum the guitar in her hands. One note after another. Then she began to sing.
“Down in the valley, valley so low,
Late in the evening, hear the train blow.
The train, love, hear the train blow.
Late in the evening, hear the train blow.”
Coriolanus felt like he was in a trance as she began to sing. Her voice was soft and airy, almost shy. It was so different to Lucy Gray. Though his mind snapped out of his thoughts as Lucy Gray found her way over to him with a grin.
“Hi! Good ain’t she?” She asked happily, rather proud of her cousin.
“Good isn’t the word for it,” Sejanus said, his cheek flushing a bit as he looked from Lucy Gray back to the stage.
Coriolanus cleared his throat, “yes, she’s quite good. But most of the Covey is,” he said, listening as Y/N continued.
“Go build me a mansion, build it so high,
So I can see my true love go by.
See him go by, love, see him go by.
So I can see my true love go by.”
“She was always shyer than most,” Lucy Gray said, “prefers the background. But I couldn’t let her not sing this one,” she said, and it make Coriolanus think….who was it about? Was this recent?
“Go write a letter, send it by mail.
Bake it and stamp it to the Capitol jail.
Capitol jail, love, to the Capitol jail.”
“Who is it about?” Coriolanus asked, he couldn’t help himself.
Lucy gray let out a small sigh, “someone she was with about a year ago. He was the bakers son. Honestly I never seen someone so smitten before,” she said fondly, remembering how Y/N was with the boy before shaking her head,
“but he got himself into some bad trouble with the peacekeepers. Attempted to bribe one of the commanders. They thought he was all involved with the rebels and then he was sent off to the capital jail. Never seen someone so heart broken before.” Lucy gray shook her head, her messy black curls moving as she did so.
“But anyway, she wrote this a while ago. But just finished coming up with the music. I think it’s a hit with the district. Many people lost a lot of loved ones. For things like stealing and illegal trading,” she finished explaining.
“Roses are red, love; violets are blue.
Birds in the heavens know I love you.
Know I love you, oh, know I love you,
Birds in the heavens know I love you.”
Coriolanus’ head snapped back as she continued to sing the last verses of her song. It reminded him of his mother, she would sing those same lines to him. And it made his stomach flutter. Nerves? Anxiety? He couldn’t tell.
Sejanus cleared his throat, “Lucy Gray….do you think you could introduce us?” He asked hopefully, and Lucy Gray gave a knowing grin.
“Why of course. Once the crowd clears,” Lucy Gray said.
Coriolanus couldn’t help but internally scoff at Sejanus. What could he do for a sweet shy girl like you? Sejanus was just as weak. You needed someone to protect you, who knew better. Sejanus couldn’t do that to you. But Coriolanus could. And he wouldn’t lose to someone like Sejanus.
His pale eyes moved from Sejanus as the crowd erupted into applause, and watched as Y/N gave a bashful smile and a cute little bow.
Yes.
He couldn’t lose you to anyone.

my personal theory is that lucy gray died in the woods. snow shot her, and she bled out among the flowers and snakes she loved. the covey found her wagon, they put together that she was leaving to go North, and they decided that, as their own goodbye to Lucy, they’d go to the lake for a picnic. They found her there, not Maude, but one of the older kids. they said their goodbyes and they buried her right next to the lake bed, a few meters away from the katniss.
the covey swore they’d never speak of what became of lucy gray. she was one of them, and her story didn’t belong to anyone else. but they never forgot her, or her music.

whatever you do, don't think about how heartbroken the covey would have been when lucy gray disappeared. how they just got her back and just as quickly, she was gone.
don't think about how sad maude ivory would have been to lose both lucy gray and coriolanus, her older sister and older brother figure both gone at once.
how they all would've thought that she left them behind for the north, and how none of them would have suspected coriolanus being the reason why she never came back.

Thinking about! young Katniss Everdeen going on about her life, finding ways to secure a meal for the night. Numb to the pain and grief and responsibility, then being hit out of nowhere and doubling over, sobs racking her body, thoughts clouded and painful as Prim tries to soothe her, her pleads falling on deaf ears.
Thinking about! Katniss's mother falling into a depression when the love of her life died. Paralyzed. Only being able to watch her children suffer as she couldn't bring herself to help.
Thinking about! Peeta Mellark who will never be the same as he was, who will never reclaim his identity to the fullest extent. Peeta Mellark who still isn't certain about what's real and what's not real.
Thinking about! Annie who had to plan a funeral only weeks after planning her wedding, having to raise and take care of her son on her own.
Thinking about! Katniss watching her children play in the meadow that was once a graveyard.
Thinking about! Katniss and her father finding comfort and solace in the meadow, and survival. Not knowing it was also the place of their ancestors, the sanctuary of the covey people, of Lucy Gray.

Loverboys on Our Hands (s.p x covey!reader)
Tumblr media
pairing: sejanus plinth x covey!reader
word count: 1.4k
warnings: none, unless you count coriolanus as a warning lol
a/n: i have been obsessed with covey!reader and sejanus for a hot second now so i thought i'd finally write about it! heavily influenced by @alwritey-aphrodite to write said duo (so if you haven't read their work you absolutely should!). anyway, hope you enjoy!
The sound of coal miner boots stomping in rhythm against the creaky floors of the Hob would always be your favourite sound. Performances hadn’t been as frequent with Lucy Gray fighting in the arena and everything, but now the Covey were back in full swing and you couldn’t be happier. All it took was one look at Maude Ivory, her smile shining brighter than the sun in the meadow, for your stage fright to turn into excitement, and your fingers were ready to join Clerk Carmine in your shared moments of fiddle harmony. Barb started the backstage line up, urging the rest of you to follow suit before your performance was to officially begin. There were people clapping in anticipation behind the curtain, surrounded by the sound of glasses clinking together at the bar and men laughing at each other. You gave a nod to Maude Ivory before she headed out to announce the evening, and hearing her receive a round of applause only widened the smile on your face.
“I hope everyone’s ready ‘cause we’ve got a great show lined up for you tonight!” She paused for people to clap before announcing you all one by one, the audience’s excitement growing with each name that got called. Once everyone was on, Maude Ivory tapped her drum a few times to count everyone in before Clerk Carmine began playing the introductory melody. He made his way over to you, nudging you with his body weight before you leaned back to back as your harmony part began and you laughed, pushing back off each other as Lucy Gray started strumming, stepping closer to the microphone. Tam Amber took a break from his mandolin to get the audience clapping in rhythm, getting a few shouts and hollers out of them as well.
This was your happy place, the thing you wouldn’t trade for anything, and the audience’s energy only made it better. You travelled across the stage to Barb Azure as Lucy Gray did a twirl with her guitar. Barb Azure gave you a look and nodded her head towards Lucy Gray as you could tell she was focused on something in the back of the Hob. A familiar blonde head had made his way through the crowd to see tonight’s performance, and his Peacekeeper buddies had come with him. You shook your head, letting out a small chuckle as you separated from Barb Azure, but you couldn’t help yourself from also looking in that same direction, hoping another buzzed head would be in attendance.
Sure enough, Sejanus was sitting on one of the barrales next to the table Coriolanus had secured, and you twirled yourself around to hide the large smile you were starting to sport. Lucy Gray looked over at you and gave you a knowing nod, but you just shook your head, hoping she wasn’t getting any ideas. The girl may have wandered the Earth with the best intentions, but you didn’t need her meddling in your lacking love life. You allowed yourself one look over, just enough time to catch him smiling and lightly bobbing his head along to the music, before turning back away in fear that you would get too distracted. The last thing you needed was Clerk Carmine making fun of you for playing a wrong note again.
After the performance was over, and Maude Ivory was going around collecting whatever tips people were willing to give, Lucy Gray grabbed your hand and marched you straight over to the Peacekeeper boys. Trying not to object too loudly, in fear that a certain someone would hear and get the wrong idea, you were quick to shut up once you reached the table, choosing to brush some dust off the front of your top instead.
“You remember Coriolanus don’t you?” She asked you, never dropping your hand.
“Hard to forget when you won’t stop talking about him,” you teased Lucy Gray, looking quickly over at the blonde boy and noticing a content smirk on his face.
Rolling her eyes, Lucy Gray added, “and his friend,” as she gestured to Sejanus with your connected hands.
Your cheeks were hot, and you would’ve found more interest in your laced up boots had you not noticed Sejanus was already looking at you. “It was awfully nice of you both to come tonight”.
“Oh it’s not a problem, really. You guys are so good, it would be a shame to miss such a performance,” Sejanus smiled, and you missed Coriolanus sticking his foot out and kicking his friend in the shin.
“Well, I think some celebratory drinks are in order,” Lucy Gray started, “Coriolanus, won’t you come help me carry some?” He nodded, quickly hopping off his stool and following after her.
“But you don’t-” you tried to object, but they were already weaving their way through the crowd, leaving you and Sejanus awkwardly taking in each other’s presence. “That was odd”.
“They sure are in love aren’t they?” Sejanus asked, leaning in closer to you to avoid yelling over the crowds who now had to entertain themselves.
“Yeah, but..” you trailed off, your eyes focused on where the couple had just run off to.
“But what?” Sejanus urged you to continue.
“I don’t know. Her last relationship was real rough for her- you remember when Billy Taupe came in here the other night- and I just don’t want to see her hurt again. Especially not after what she just went through”. You paused. “But she’s a tough girl”. You looked back to make eye contact with Sejanus, realising he hadn’t looked away from you the entire time.
“I wasn’t being sarcastic or anything earlier, by the way. With what I said about us coming to see you tonight. You guys are really good, and it was nice to see you happy”.
“Well thank you,” you smiled, trying your hardest not to look at the floor. “That’s awfully sweet of you to say,” you finished as your nerves got the better of you and you looked down, kicking some piece of paper around.
In what seemed to be a rush of confidence, Sejanus tipped your chin up with his finger, forcing you to look at him once again. “There’s that pretty smile”. His smile grew wider, as did the heat on your cheeks, before he dropped his hand. Lucy Gray and Coriolanus were quick to return to the table at that moment, and you knew she must have seen that little interaction go down just by the way she was smiling at you.
“You know, I was just telling Coriolanus that we were all thinking of heading up to the lake tomorrow if y’all wanted to come,” she looked between Sejanus and Coriolanus, who were both nodding their heads in piqued interest.
“Yeah, that sounds great. We have the day off too so it would work out perfectly,” Sejanus added a verbal confirmation to the conversation.
“Oh! That would be so much fun!” If performing was your ultimate happy place, the lake was definitely a close second. “Does anyone have a pen or something?” You shouted a little louder into the remaining crowd. Someone was quick to toss one over to you and you looked at Sejanus with an excited expression on your face. “Give me your arm”.
With no hesitation, albeit a confused look on his face, Sejanus rolled up his sleeve, leaning his arm out to you in the process. You quickly scribbled down ‘The Seam’ with some broken directions on how to get there and a time before capping the pen and throwing it back into the crowd.
“Now, you two meet us there at that exact time and we’ll all head over together alright?” Lucy Gray looked between the two boys, “And don’t you dare be late, or we’ll be just fine leaving without you,” she teased with a mischievous smile on her face as she grabbed your hand again.
“I guess we’re heading back, but we’ll see you both tomorrow yeah?” You looked first at your combined hands and then at the boys.
“Yeah, it sounds like a great time,” Sejanus nodded at the two of you before Lucy Gray was pulling you back to join the rest of the Covey. You turned awkwardly over your open shoulder, waving goodbye to them with your free hand.
“Anything would sound like a great time to you if you got to see them again,” you caught Coriolanus muttering to his friend as the two of them stood up to leave.
Lucy Gray laughed at the intense blush creeping its way onto your face, nudging your body with her shoulder before you met up with the rest of the Covey backstage. “Looks like we’ve got a couple of loverboys on our hands”.

okay, i finally saw tbosas and here are my thoughts
1. i personally think it would have benefited from being split into two movies, one in the capitol, one in twelve
2. i feel like sejanus wasn’t fleshed out as well as he could have been. i absolutely adore him but in the movie he came across as more reckless as opposed to filled with righteous fury, and his death wasn’t as painful as i was expecting (let’s be honest i wanted to fall to my knees sobbing at his death and instead i was just ‘ahhh noooo ☹️’)
3. ma deserved to be better featured in the movie + she would have helped flesh sejanus out (also to show snow’s relationship with the plinths in general would have really hammered in HOW evil he is)
4. i wish we had been able to spend more time in 12, seen snows HATRED for mockingjays spelt out clearer and spent more time with the covey and see how close they all are and how much they genuinely did trust snow
5. changing the ending of the games with everyone dying from the snakes was a little disappointing but i did laugh when the students started chanting “get her out!” (also when dr gaul said she didn’t care if there wasn’t a victor vs snow demanding there has to be a victor, which 64 years later comes to bite him in the ass was MWUH chefs kiss)
6. critiques aside, every single actor was PHENOMENAL. not a single weak or subpar performance in sight, even characters without any/much dialogue were incredible and scene stealers (shoutout to irene böhm as lamina)
7. the sets and costumes were EVERYTHING, almost everything was exactly how i pictured and if it wasn’t plucked straight from my brain it was even better than i could have imagined
8. rachel zegler and tom blyth please marry me please
9. the part where marcus comes over and tells lucy gray that she can run and get out KILLED me, oh i could just feel my heart shatter in my chest
10. OH MY GOD lucky flickerman being an absolute scene stealer, what an ICON, i laughed at everything he said
okay that’s all i can think of at this moment. overall i did love it but i do find myself being all “the book was better 🤓” but very rarely do movies come close to being as good, and as far as adaptations go i loved it and could make peace with most of their changes

“The Valley Song” might be different in the books, but Francis Lawrence was WILD FOR THIS 💀
Tumblr media
With his OCD and generally Disastrous™️ mental state, the seed of his destruction was planted from the moment Katniss uttered her name on Reaping Day.
But some moments are EXTRA 🤣
Think about it. The games were going on, Katniss & Peeta had already gotten already under his skin more than he liked, he was pissed at Seneca— both for the rule change and for not just killing the girl already, especially after the fires in Eleven. But no great matter. They’re children. They’ll be dead soon. Let them squirm for the crowd a little, put something besides riots on the air.
The doughboy was lying there, blood oozing out of that disgusting leg. The girl tended him—clumsily. He shouldn’t have even had it on, could have just waited for a missive from the Gamemakers—but he told himself, it’s better this way, to watch them die, and kept it on in the background. Besides, if he watched, he could break the news gently to his granddaughter.
The boy chattered, delirious. The girl was trying to shush him. At least she quit that dreadful singing. “I remember when you, you sang in music assembly,” the boy rambled. Snow heavy-sighed.
Then, “The teacher said, ‘Who knows the Valley Song?’”
Snow’s jaw clenched. His keyboard fell silent. He slowly faced the holo.
“And your hand shot straight up.”
He wished he could set that little snake on fire. He’d gladly light the match himself.

The bright blue sky had faded into orange and pink, you and the Covey all now scattered around the land. Maude and Lucy Gray sat on the dock, feet in the water as they sang random melodies they came up with, Issac sitting behind them drumming along with a beat.
That left you and Coryo, who were laid together on a blanket under a tree, in each other’s arms. You laid in his lap, his arms wrapped around you, a warm feeling in the both of you chest’s. You softly sang a song to him— one you had recently came up with.
In the time of the harvest, the leaves fallin’ down.
I held what my true love could reap from the ground.
But the bounty of a garden can all rot away,
Without love and protection and a hard will to stay.
I’ll never have a garden again.
Where I fall to my knees and work with the land.
Now I’m just prayin’ with two dirty hands.
I’ll never, no, never have a garden again.
You finished the song with a breath, your hands going to nervously fidget.
“Your singing is beautiful.” Coryo whispered. “Did you write that?”
“Yeah, I did.” You softly smiled. “It’s not done, but I came up with it the other night.” You looked up, hearing the mockingjay’s repeat the melody you had sang.
Coryo followed your gaze. “I’ve never seen those type of birds before.”
“Mockingjays, as we call ‘em, or as Lucy Gray does.” You explained, smiling at the thought of your beloved cousin.
“Well, I like it so far. Your songs are always beautiful.” He smiled, leaning down to kiss your nose.
You giggled, your hand going up to grab him to connect your lips. You exchanged a passionate kiss, the boy always kissing you like you were his air. He slowly broke apart, leaving small pecks on your lips before he pulled you closer.
“I wish it could be like this all the time,” You sighed.
“Me too, baby.” He brushed some hair out of your eyes, studying you for a moment. “It could be… if you came to the Capitol—”
“No, Coryo.” You cut him off with a wave of your hand. “I mean out here. In nature, away from it all. I don’t want to go back to the Capitol ever again. I don’t belong there.”
He deflated, shaking his head. “Y/N, you know I have to go back eventually..”
A breath of air left your lips, his words leaving you frowning. “I know,” your eyes casted downwards, away from his.
He bent down slightly, leaving a kiss on your lips. “I’m not gone yet, my songbird. I’m still here,”
His actions brought a small smile to your face, as your hands came up to grip his lovingly. “I.. I’m sorry I make things difficult. I’m torn, Coryo. I don’t want to be without you, but I refuse to live that life in the Capitol.”
“You don’t make things difficult, my love. I understand. You were brought up out here, it‘s your home.” He muttered, staring into your eyes with a loving gaze. “I will figure it out— We will. Don’t worry, baby.” He left another kiss on your lips, this one longer and washing all of your worries away. When you pulled back for air, the boy turned to dig in his bag, turning back to you with an orange shawl in his hand.
“What’s this?” You asked, sitting up and turning to him.
He swallowed the lump in his throat, passing it to you. “It was my mother’s, and I’d like for you to have it.”
“Oh, Coryo,” You smiled, clutching it. “Thank you, really.” You brought up to your nose, inhaling deeply. “Mm, still smells like roses.”
He smiled down at you with adoration.
“I’ll take good care of it, I promise. Thank you, sweetheart.” You said, your accent showing. “You must miss your family so much out here.”
“I do.” He answered. “I worry about them all the time.”
“…Would you really go back, though?” You met his eye again. “If you could,”
“I have to, it’s where I belong. Like how you belong out here.”
You nodded, breaking your eye contact. “Yeah, I get it. I’m sorry.” Your gaze turned back to the water in front of you.
“Hey..” He scooted closer to you.
You shook your head. “What if this was our life, Coriolanus?” You asked, and his attention was immediately on you with the use of his actual name. “Out here, waking up whenever. Catching our own food, living out by the lake— I mean, would you still feel the need for the Capitol even then?” You further went on, urging him to listen to you.
“Hey, lovebirds!” Lucy Gray called with a giggle, causing the pair of you to break apart. “C’mere! CeCe and Issac caught dinner!” She waved, as Issac held up some fish they had caught.
You sighed, shaking your head once again at Coryo before you stood up to join them, Coriolanus on your tail.
As the night went on, the previous worries were now in the back of your mind as you sang a song with Lucy Gray, a smile on your face.
However, as Coriolanus watched you, the same worries were front and present in his mind. In fact, he couldn’t think of anything else. He knew somehow, someway he had to convince you to come with him. He couldn’t leave you behind, not again.
He didn’t know if you’d still be here when he got back.
‘What if this was our life, Coriolanus? Would you still feel the need for the Capitol, even then?’ Your past words ringing in his ears as his smile dropped. If he didn’t lure you in soon, you’d fly away with the mockingjays into the wind, never to be his again.
He couldn’t have that.

I know the popular fan theory is that Maude Ivory is Katniss's grandmother, but my theory is that Snow got the rest of the Covey killed. They were the only living group that would really have a reason to remember him in 12 and they certainly remembered Lucy Gray, and his goal was to erase her from memory.
They had enough time to pass on some songs, but that was it. I'm not convinced any of them had kids before Snow eradicated them.

'Keep on the sunny side' is a song by the Carter family originally released in 1964, and is sung by Maude Ivory and the Covey band in the ballad of songbirds and snakes. This means that at least some existing songs survived the war and continued to be sung in the districts, so therefore it is perfectly reasonable to assume that finnick odair has heard call me maybe. In this essay I will

can i call you rose?
⤷ peacekeeper!coriolanus snow x district!reader: coriolanus and you celebrate your anniversary, slow dancing as you reminisce about the time you met.

The Covey sang softly, a sweet ballad that Coriolanus had written for your anniversary with Coriolanus. It had been a year since you’d met here in the hub, and every moment since then had felt like a dream.
You met Coryo on a drunken night and remember dancing wildly and letting loose on a hot Saturday night. Not a care in a world, as the music moved you. Amid your festivities, a body crashed into you, causing moonshine to spill on your shirt and the stranger who stood before you. Despite the mishap, his eyes captivated you like a bright pool of water, drawing you in. It was the first thing that caught your attention, even before you noticed his distinct accent, unlike any you had heard from District 12.
"Watch your step, pretty lady," he said with a charming smile, his voice conveying mystery and allure. Coriolanus didn’t have the twang in his voice that the locals had. Your palms began to sweat at the realization that you had spilled your drink on a Peacekeeper. But Coriolanus kept his hands steady on your waist with his alluring smile.
“Shit! I didn’t mean to-. I’m so sorry, sir,” you stuttered.
Coriolanus had been nothing but a gentleman and laughed softly at how quickly you transformed into such a timid thing.
He ignored your apology and replied, “May I have this dance?”
Coriolanus pulled you out of your trance when he peppered small kisses along your jawline down to your neck as he swayed with you along with the melody.
“Coryo-“
“Shhh, listen to the lyrics. I wrote them special for you.” Coryo held you close to him, and you could feel his steady heartbeat against your chest. Remaining in the moment, you focused on the words that The Covey sang.
“Can I call you Rose?
Cause you're sweet like a flower in blue
Can I call you Rose?
Cause your fragrance takes over the room
Darling, I wanna plant you in my heart, oh
So love can grow
Can I call you Rose?
Cause your thorns won't let blood in too soon
Can I call you Rose?
Cause your roots have the power to consume me.”
Tears welled in your eyes as the euphemism within the song hit its poignant note. Speechless, you watched as Coriolanus gingerly pulled away, his piercing crystal blue eyes locking with yours—two souls connected in a wordless exchange, foreheads pressed in a tender moment of silent understanding.
“I love you,” he whispered. Coriolanus slid down onto one knee and took out the silver compact with an engraved rose on it. Revealing the prettiest ring that you had ever seen.
“Will you marry me?”
