Saw an incredible, sexy, haunting performance of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, thank you @essaychant for taking me along for the adventure in FRONT ROW SEATS fucking WOW
If anyone can tell me who was standing in for MC this weekend I'd appreciate it, they were brilliant!
(and thank you to the character Frenchie for calling our table phone when I was alone to seduce me in German, 1000/10 thirsty immersion)

Ok, haven’t seen anyone else do this and goodness knows people need it so…
TIPS FOR THEATRE/THE PERFORMING ARTS IF YOU’RE TRANS (by a trans theatre kid.)
First off.. changing rooms. If you can talk to a teacher, if you can’t or don’t feel safe using either and need to change quickly then you can do what I call the “clothing shimmy” where you put on clothes under other clothes so the most you will have to do is swap pants or something. If you can’t do that then try getting to the bathrooms or a small closet if they have one. Theatre is historically an LGBTQ space and you should have more than every right to participate in it.
FtM:
Binders: for singing/dancing you can still wear a binder if you think it’s safe, just know you’ll have to find almost twice as many breathing spots in songs
Voice: as my choir teacher told me, the center of power for your voice will not change (it won’t really get deeper) but that’s fine, because not all voice masculinization has to make your voice deeper. There’s a whole science about it and some really great videos, but I would recommend the small dog/big dog exercise for making you sound more masculine and also keep your natural singing voice.
HIP DYSPHORIA: auuugh we all hate it, but I never see anything about it. One solution I have if your costume sucks and is being a bitch around the pants is wearing them lower down on your hips and getting a belt if you can.
Makeup: if you already do this wear masculine contour with your stage makeup I promise no one will notice.
MtF: (I’m not mtf but I do still have some tips :)
Voice: same thing I said up there. Don’t try and make your voice higher, but make it softer.
Dancing: if you wear and sort of fake boobas or a bra with stiff in it it might jostle around a bit, so get a tighter shirt to wear under your costume if you can to keep all that in place
Tucking: honestly, I can see compression shorts or something like that working in your favor, since it’s good to wear something under your costume anyways.
Makeup: stage makeup is all about defining your lips, brows, eyes, etc. Really go for your lips and eyes but don’t overdo your brows. Light feminine contours as well. Get some mascara if you can. Go for it!

I will be the cause of my entire drama club's death
when i join my high school's drama club and if they ask me if i know anything about theatre, i will instinctively go
"only what not to do"
and then sprint onto the stage and yell "MACBETH", instantly crushing everyone by the falling rafters. thus ending my theater career before it ever began

50 Years Ago Today: The Collapse of the University Hotel and The Mercer Arts Center
The New York Daily News photo above was taken at the moment the building that housed the Mercer Arts Center collapsed on August 3rd, 1973. I first heard of the incident from researching my obit for George Ferencz a couple of years ago. Amazingly George had cheated death that day a half century ago, had been in the building earlier in the day and was due to return that evening for a…
