i've already dyed my hair purple, blue, orange, red and black. blonde had been on my list for years and i finally did it in october- my hair has been blonde ever since! (it looks a lot like azi's haircolour btw!)

38. What’s one show you watch or musician you listen to that your friends know nothing about?

it has to be something star wars. most of my friends irl do not watch star wars. it's a bit odd, i know. they've seen the prequels and originals (we do not talk about the sequels) but they are not interested in the clone wars, rebels or any other sw show.

3. What is your writing ritual and why is it cursed?

Okay, so I used to write on Google Docs for the longest time and then a few months I told myself that maybe it wasn't the best privacy-wise. So I've switched to using Open Office, which I think helps me focus better because having it on a separate window away from my web browser reduces the temptation to stop mid-sentence to check another tab, you know? But at the same time, this feels VERY cursed because my version doesn't have any kind of spelling check, plus my WIPs are now saved on my internal drive, and since I don't make backups of them that often, I live in fear or my laptop dying on me and making me lose weeks of progress

Oh also, there's basically no word count lololol

Am I gonna do anything about any of this though? No, we're raw-dogging life over here 😎

15. Do you write in the margins of your books? Dog-ear your pages? Read in the bath? Why or why not? Do you judge people who do these things? Can we still be friends?

I already answered this earlier but the short answer is I currently don't, but I don't judge people who do (unless it's a library book or something)

17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.

I guess I'll talk about my fic for the Zouis Fest (although it might not even be part of it in the end, because I keep writing for the Dream Team fandom instead rip)

Anyway, I'm still not sure exactly what I'm doing with it. Like the main idea is that it's a Zayn-POV, canon-compliant(ish), present day fic where they run into each other in Hong Kong and are kinda forced to acknowledge what happened all those years ago, and figure out how to move forward. So like, lots of angst and feelings of betrayal and conflict and serious conversations because that's basically all I know how to (and all I want to) write lol

At the moment I'm not sure whether to keep it focused on their friendship or introduce some kind of romance aspect to it (toying with the idea that they had some kind FWB situation going while they were in the band). But since it's canon-compliant I'd feel kinda iffy doing that. I've never actually written canon-compliant before, and I have to admit that it scares me a bit, also because I've been extremely removed from the 1d fandom lately

Anyway one thing I'm sure about is that I want a scene to be inspired by the following verse from Blur's My Terracotta Heart:

And when we fly tomorrow over the Java seas And my younger maps will be there with me 'Cause they remind me of swimming out too far one day Then the coral was gone, but I didn't care anyway

Something about Zayn going too far to swim and Louis watching him almost drown but not realizing what's happening, as a metaphor for what went wrong between them

Yeah, that's pretty much all I can share at the moment. I should really get back to it

18. Choose a passage from your writing. Tell me about the backstory of this moment. How you came up with it, how it changed from start to end.

Zayn Malik is, without a doubt, the most beautiful person Louis has ever had the privilege to lay his eyes on. To the point that if he were to explain aesthetic attraction to someone, he’d probably say something like: “The feeling I get when I look at that gorgeous guy in my English 586 class.”

That's the opening line from Situations Like These, my aro/ace Zouis fic from the first Zouis fest.

It's one of those stories that really started out with just a scene rather than an idea/concept, which I think is the case for a lot of my fics actually. I mean, I did have a prompt for this fic, which was something like "they're both ace but don't tell the other for fear of driving him away", so it was pretty vague in terms of setting and everything else, really.

I remember coming up with that opening scene and the bits of dialogues at my grandparents' place right before getting on the road back home with my parents, and since I'd rather die than write in front of them, I just had to make sure to commit everything to my memory by repeating it all in my head throughout the day, until we were finally home and I could write it down. But that's something I do a lot, I think, just come up with stuff (typically dialogue) at inconvenient times and praying that I remember it by the time I can write it down 😬 And then of course when you actually settle in front of your computer, you feel like all your inspiration is gone

Anyway, I think this might be one of my favourite opening scenes I've written, I feel like it's pretty fun while setting the tone and dynamics for the whole fic

What made you pick up this character?

Shoutout to my besties Marth, Maes, and Nico for convincing me to join! I RP'ed Deuce on a TWST RP group I made for friends, and had been for a good chunk of time! I've had Deuce...as long as I've been in Isola - over a year! - now thanks to them convincing me to join with him. I think I was one of the only TWST characters with them back then lol. Musing Deuce specifically was kinda funny, how it happened. I thought I'd go in and come out writing Azul, Vil, and/or Ruggie. And while I have written at least Azul before in a Discord group; Deuce quickly became my favorite character. He won me over with his heart of gold...he's just such a good kid.

2. How did you get into this franchise/fandom?

This like never happens but. I actually got into TWST sometime around the game's JPN launch, so I've been here almost the whole time! I think I got into it...two months after it came out? A friend and I saw some of the Heartslabyul SSRs floating around on Twitter and thought it looked interesting - so we read up on a ton of the translations and I fell in love with the characters and the world!

20. If you could sum up your character with one sentence, what would it be?

Imagine if your local high school jock had the most pure of heart, dumb of ass personality in the world.

The best piece of advice I ever got was not meant as advice, but as an edict. If I was going to threaten people as a joke, it had to be so far out of proportion with what happened that it would be obvious I was joking. This changed how I expressed frustration with others. It then changed how I expressed frustration with myself.

Not “I’m going to hit you” but “I am going to buy a tuna sub from the gas station and hide it under the seat of your car”

Not “I’m going to kill myself” but “I am going to walk into the desert and let the scarabs take me”

The other side then happened. When I mess something up, instead of saying it’s bad and perpetuating negative thoughts, swing hard the other way.

Not “this art is terrible” but “this shall be framed and mounted on the wall in my museum exhibition as testament to the suffering I had to overcome”

Have been doing this since high school. It was my drama teacher who asked me to please stop scaring the actors. The other half of the edict was that I had to say it in a polite tone, and end it with either please or thank you.

Life changing. 10/10 Mr Muëller. Highly reccomend.

hbomberguy’s latest video on plagiarism has made me completely rethink literature and writing. I have never once so much as considered intentionally plagiarizing anyone or anything, but I think there’s something more that has come out of this: the names of the people who created the works Somerton (and others) ripped off.

Plagiarism isn’t only bad because it is lazy and disrespectful, it’s bad because it buries the truth. If you can’t find a source, the conversation is over. Somerton’s sources are fairly easy to find by simply searching his plagiarized lines, but that isn’t true in most cases. Most of the time, the line from statement to source is a lot less clear.

Today, I was writing a report on English Ivy, which is an invasive species here in the US. I wanted to know when it was introduced and I at last found a source claiming it was introduced to the Americas “as early as 1727” on a .net website that seems quite reputable (it has multiple major universities credited in its home page), but there is no citation for where this date came from. I dug deeper and found a pamphlet created by a city government in Virginia that made the same claim, only to discover the first source linked in their bibliography. Another website (a botanical garden’s page) gave the same date with the same source hyperlinked. Of course, I have classes to attend and things to do and probably not enough time to follow the lines back to where this 1727 date came from, but if I had not just watched this video, I wouldn’t have given that date a second thought.

Of course, it doesn’t matter in the long run exactly what year hedera helix was introduced to the Americas, but it makes you wonder how many facts have been so vaguely attributed that it becomes completely impossible to figure out where they originated (and further, whether or not they’re true at all).

143,748 words for the 2023 year so far! Which is less than what I normally get in a year, but considering all the stuff that went on in my life, I’m okay with this. XD

3.) What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?

From a writing/technical standpoint, probably Beneath the Moonlight or Something to Dream of. However, I’m also really proud of my fic, Dark Flower, and while it’s not finished, I am really content with how Songbirds in Winter is turning out. ^^

12.) How many WIP’s do you have in your docs for next year?

Right now, Songbirds in Winter is my top priority! (I’ve spent too long on it already. XD) I have some ideas for possible stories after, but it’s going to depend on what I’m feeling after completing this story. (I’m still thinking of another Yulma fairytale AU for Cinderella, or a single parent omegaverse fic. I also have some ideas for House of the Dragon.) I didn’t get to write the mermaid AU I wanted for DGM Rare Pair Week 2023 for Tyki and Alma, so I might try to work on that. ;3

19.) What’s one pairing you want to explore next year?

I’m such a creature of habit, that I feel like I’ll keep gravitating to Tyki and Alma or Yulma. XD However, I would like to write more for Lucemond from House of the Dragon! If I move forward with a Yulma Cinderella AU, I am thinking of a subplot for Tyki x Miranda, so that might be on my mind. >.>

Fairytale and mythology retellings are my go-to! I love my slowburn romances, drama, and pining. X3

He turned returning Horatio to one of the cages, before returning to Tyki, gently taking the other dove. “Here — sometimes they just want to be together.”] It’s from chapter 22, so it has yet to be posted in full. But this little exchange makes my heart both flutter and ache when thinking about the rest of the story and what awaits for Tyki and Alma.
