14: How do their personalities compliment each other? How do they clash?

other than that they’re both fun-loving idiots, ven not caring about almost anything lets regongar get away with a lot of terrible shit. they’ll probably have fun during it! i said before, but i have an image in my head of reg brutally killing someone with a lightning bolt and makes one of his stupid jokes during it and ven laughs heartily. she’ll thank him profusely! regongar is super overprotective, like kills people if they look at her wrong overprotective. with ven that’s actually not as bad as it usually would be, because she does get into super dangerous situations for funsies, with reg’s persistent “help” she becomes a lot less self destructive.

they don’t clash or fight much, but ven in the beginning is extremely avoidant and scared of her feelings for him, while reg is extremely loving, clingy and basically wants to never be separated from her like ever. he really doesn’t like when she goes out on her own, or is always stealing her away from her responsibilities, which ven doesn’t mind too much though. ven also has a hard time at first trying to reassure him when he has one of his breakdowns about her not loving him anymore, leaving him, and not needing him anymore. she usually just lays down with him and lets him hold her so tight that breathing becomes hard, so that he knows that despite her not really knowing how to be an emotional support, she won’t leave his side.

28: What are their thoughts on pet names? Do they have any?

yessss!!! reg calls her “my ven” most times, but also “my girl/babygirl”, “my heart” and “baby” quite often. (a bit cringe and more than a bit possessive, but ven does not mind. kind of a continuation of the first question, but the feeling of belonging to someone, being “his” weirdly helps her accept herself more. it’s not entirely healthy honestly but i always said they were fucked up. also reg always saying that he’s gonna kill himself/die if she leaves him? like she’s his actual heart and if you’d remove that he’d obviously die. that’s how he feels)

ven is not a pet names person though, she calls him reg or regongar, or jokingly some variation of pervert.

The best piece of advice I ever got was not meant as advice, but as an edict. If I was going to threaten people as a joke, it had to be so far out of proportion with what happened that it would be obvious I was joking. This changed how I expressed frustration with others. It then changed how I expressed frustration with myself.

Not “I’m going to hit you” but “I am going to buy a tuna sub from the gas station and hide it under the seat of your car”

Not “I’m going to kill myself” but “I am going to walk into the desert and let the scarabs take me”

The other side then happened. When I mess something up, instead of saying it’s bad and perpetuating negative thoughts, swing hard the other way.

Not “this art is terrible” but “this shall be framed and mounted on the wall in my museum exhibition as testament to the suffering I had to overcome”

Have been doing this since high school. It was my drama teacher who asked me to please stop scaring the actors. The other half of the edict was that I had to say it in a polite tone, and end it with either please or thank you.

hbomberguy’s latest video on plagiarism has made me completely rethink literature and writing. I have never once so much as considered intentionally plagiarizing anyone or anything, but I think there’s something more that has come out of this: the names of the people who created the works Somerton (and others) ripped off.

Plagiarism isn’t only bad because it is lazy and disrespectful, it’s bad because it buries the truth. If you can’t find a source, the conversation is over. Somerton’s sources are fairly easy to find by simply searching his plagiarized lines, but that isn’t true in most cases. Most of the time, the line from statement to source is a lot less clear.

Today, I was writing a report on English Ivy, which is an invasive species here in the US. I wanted to know when it was introduced and I at last found a source claiming it was introduced to the Americas “as early as 1727” on a .net website that seems quite reputable (it has multiple major universities credited in its home page), but there is no citation for where this date came from. I dug deeper and found a pamphlet created by a city government in Virginia that made the same claim, only to discover the first source linked in their bibliography. Another website (a botanical garden’s page) gave the same date with the same source hyperlinked. Of course, I have classes to attend and things to do and probably not enough time to follow the lines back to where this 1727 date came from, but if I had not just watched this video, I wouldn’t have given that date a second thought.

Of course, it doesn’t matter in the long run exactly what year hedera helix was introduced to the Americas, but it makes you wonder how many facts have been so vaguely attributed that it becomes completely impossible to figure out where they originated (and further, whether or not they’re true at all).

🌿 What way does your OC show that they care without using words? What way do others show your that they’re cared about without using speech?

hm this is a difficult question for oleander, if this question is specifically referring to wanting to show someone that he cares, and not something like “oh these are nice things he’s willing to do for the people he loves” he’s very forward and vocal if he likes someone. if he cares about you you’ll definitely know immediately because he doesn’t shut up!!! he doesn’t do subtlety when it comes to that. or just in general tbh. he does also like cooking for his dear ones. he’s one of those people that makes you something you mentioned being interested in trying once every day until you get sick of it.

others don’t really have to do anything specific to show that they care, he knows already from a glance most definitely. (50 wis! fucking high perception!)

uhm. nothing. queen of repressing shit! she just ignores all the bad feelings and goes on like nothing happened. at first, a person noticing that something’s wrong, trying to be there for her and trying to comfort makes her even more avoidant, she wants to hide all of her feelings and traces of personhood after all. i think regongar is someone who can’t bring himself to leave her alone though, no matter how much she wants it. admittedly a bit toxic, but she does eventually let him in and doesn’t regret it. ven has an easier time calming down with regongar; she feels safe and protected with him. anyone else though? still gets yelled at when they see her being distressed.

god I'm so fucking furious at the removal of Te Reo Māori names from organisations around Aotearoa. it's a complete non-issue, every organisation has the English name directly underneath the Māori name. I have never once as an English speaker been unable to understand what an organisation is for. Winston Peters, the Deputy Prime Minister, who is literally Māori himself, said “Te Papa is a historic name but tell me this waka kotahi, how many boats have you seen going down the road?”. Waka does not just mean canoe. it means vessel, and waka kotahi (the transport agency of Aotearoa) explains this VERY SIMPLY on their official website. waka kotahi means to travel together as one. Can you see how fucking upsetting this is. A Māori person in power who is in agreement about banning his own language, being so cocky about something that he does not even understand due to the suppression of the language of his people. It makes me sick. I've seen reports from Māori people all over Aotearoa speaking out about how upset and furious they are, how decades of progress have been undone in the fight to restore the rights of their people who have for so long been oppressed and have suffered the effects of colonisation. Please share this if you can, I hate knowing how few people will hear about this, I know there is so much injustice in the world right now and it is so exhausting, I know.
