Harry Styles Answers the Web's Most Searched Questions | WIRED

"Hi I'm Harry Styles and this is the Wired Autocomplete Interview."

Harry introduced himself to the camera and you smiled, you were currently at WIRED Studios for Harry's long awaited autocomplete interview that he finally agreed to do thanks to yours and his fans persistence.

You were sitting behind the camera with the rest of the crew, watching him with a small smile.

A crew member passed the first board to him, he looked at it confusedly for a minute before speaking.

"Okay so. I'm answering what I think or what?"

Everyone in the studio laughed and the director quickly explained to him how the game worked once again, you rolled your eyes with affection and he sent a wink your way.

"Alright, how is Harry Styles?" he said after taking the little piece of paper off the board, "I'm good, I'm really enjoying being home in London, I was away for a while on tour and I'm going to stay here for a bit so that's exciting."

"How did Harry Styles," he paused to rip the next paper and reveal the rest of the question, "Become famous? Well, when I was sixteen years old I auditioned for a singing show called The X Factor, I got put in a band with four lads and we didn't win but we put out a song called What Makes You Beautiful," he smiled for a second, "that one put us on the map, we released a bunch of albums and now I'm here."

"How did Harry Styles meet his wife?" at this, he turned his gaze to you to give you a big smile, you immediately mirrored his and nodded your head, signaling that you were okay with him talking about it.

"We could say that it was basically a blind date, we had a friend in common who thought we would be a good match and set us up, we had an amazing first date but then I had to travel to Los Angeles for work so we couldn't really see each other after that but once I was back in London we hung out all the time, and now we're married."

He smiled at you again and you couldn't help but feel your heart melt, you had been married for 6 months now but the married life was still new for the both of you, and everything he called you his wife butterflies made its way to your stomach.

"How is Harry Styles still alive?" his eyes widened in surprise and he looked around the room, making a few present laugh, "Um, that's a weird thing to search on the internet, but I guess, I don't know if I can answer that, I don't think anyone can answer that we're just lucky to still be around and enjoy life."

He gave the camera one of his infamous "frog smiles" and handed the board to a crew member who was ready with the next one.

"Does Harry Styles have tattoos?" he revealed the first question of the new board, "Yes, he does. I have a lot of tattoos actually, they're basically all over my body. The most recent one is right here," he pointed at the back of his right arm, "It's my wedding date, actually, everyone might call me a sap but I was reserving this arm for tattoos about my wife a and future kids, so I guess it's finally time to fill it."

It was safe to say that fans watching at home and everyone in the studio absolutely melted, especially you.

"Does Harry Styles have siblings? I do I have a sister, she's older than me and her name is Gemma. A lot of people claim she's cooler than me for some reason but I don't thing that's true," he shrugged and revealed the next question, "Does Harry Styles speak Italian? I would like to think that I do, I spend a lot of time there and I've learned how to communicate pretty decently."

"Is Harry Styles an actor?" he said after peeling the first sticker of the new board, "He tries to be an actor that's for sure," he laughed and everyone in the room did as well, "I mean, I've been in a couple of movies, I've auditioned for a bunch of roles and my agent has sent me scripts to go through," he shrugged "So I can say that makes me an actor."

"Is Harry Styles american?" he shook his head at that one, "He is not! He's Britain, born and raised okay? He's very proud of it."

"What's Harry Styles BeReal? I don't have a BeReal, but if I did I wouldn't tell you," he pointed to the camera jokingly, "What are Harry Styles fans called? I think they are referred to as Harries, but I don't like to speak on behalf of them, you should ask them."

"What was Harry Styles first song? My first song was Sign Of The Times, I wrote it with friends that I love, and that is my wife's favorite song I've ever written, right love?"

"That's correct." you said from your spot, pretty audible so you know it would make it to the final cut of the interview.

"What are Harry Styles songs about?" he peeled the last sticker of the board, "They're about a lot of things, life, friends, love, my wife," he shrugged, "I even have one about the female orgasm."

You quietly giggled, knowing that his fans would go crazy over that last sentence.

"Did Harry Styles go to college? He did not, he became a singer."

"Did Harry Styles win a Grammy? He somehow won Album Of The Year last year, which is absolutely insane if you ask him."

"Did Harry Styles finish high school? Oh I'm glad the internet asks," he laughed, "Contrary to popular belief I did finish high school, I completed my GCES and I graduated, I don't know why there's a rumor there that I didn't finish high school tho."

"Anyway, last one!" he comically threw the board to the floor and grabbed the final board a crew member was handling him, "Who is Harry Styles best friend? Um, I have a ton of best friends. Jeff who's also my manager, Mitch who plays in my band, my childhood best friend's name is Johnny, so yeah, I'm very lucky in the friends department, I love my friends."

"Who does Harry Styles look like? My mom, I would say. A lot of people point out that we have the same smile," he shrugged, "My mom is a beautiful woman so I'm flattered."

"Who did Harry Styles write Love Of My Life about? My wife and London."

"And final question," he slowly peeled off the sticker for dramatic effect, "Who does Harry Styles love? Okay, that's cute that people search for that on the internet, um, I love my family and friends, I love my wife that's for sure, I love making music and performing," he listed with his fingers, "And love love, yeah, love is great."

He smiled to the camera and put the board aside to say his goodbyes.

"I thought my Google searches were much more appropriate that I expected. I was fun to see what people wonder about me, so yeah thank you WIRED for having me."

Flatmate! / Dad! Matty universe. The band accepting an award. Matty doing the speech. After he has done all of the formalities, he says (and IMAGINE this in his voice)

“and lastly, but most importantly to me, I want to thank my family. Everything I do is for you. Thank you. I love you so so much, my darlings’.

And you’re wiping a tear away, sat at the band’s table in the venue. Your children are at home, watching with Denise, cheering because ‘daddy is on telly’.

oh my god... ok, your little one is three and your eldest is five or six, and denise is over at yours watching them while you and matty are at the brits. obsessed with the idea that the two of them were proper curious while mummy and daddy were getting ready, and that they've put their own party clothes on to celebrate the evening too, despite not actually going to the ceremony :')) matty's like to you "honestly, if you didn't look so stunning tonight i'd literally suggest we just skip the whole thing and stay here to have a party with the girls", and you're like "if i didn't look so good? what about the prestigious 'outstanding contribution to music' award you and the boys are being presented with tonight?". and matty's like "no yeah of course that's great, but the real important thing for tonight is me getting to show off how hot my wife is on national tv" and he calls the girls over like "isn't mummy extra beautiful tonight?", and they're like mesmerised by your sparkly dress giving it "you look like a princess, mummy!" which sets them off on a "let's go and watch the little mermaid" moment lol. and matty's like "can't believe they'd rather watch the little mermaid than their own parents and uncles on tv smh", and you laugh when denise responds "you've got some cheek saying that, matthew, you were exactly the same when you were their age" - while matty cringes, she promises you that she'll make sure they see the boys get their award and then kicks you out of the house like "you're going to be late, go on!"

anyway, the ceremony is all chill - the boys do their red carpet pics, the significant others join them for a couple, then each pair gets a little individual shot, and then i think charli corrals the girls into a professional red carpet pic together too so you four can "break the internet" lol. you have some drinks and watch various artists you like (and some you don't, let's be real here) perform, cuddling into matty's side and just enjoying being close to him, you giggle at your friends ducking under the table to smoke cigs... just fun vibes, really, as you wait for the boys to be presented with their award. speaking of, i think it would be someone really cool that they got in to present it - in my ideal world, because she knows them already, it would be stevie nicks (which frankly you're freaking the fuck out about). and she introduces the boys, who go up onstage to rapturous applause and each do a little thank-you speech and talk about different parts of their career - idk who goes first and whatnot, but matty definitely goes last and discusses their more recent stuff. after thanking the people he has to, he'd definitely say something like "my incredible, gorgeous wife, my favourite person in the world, has inspired songs from every album and EP that the 1975 have ever released; i want to thank you, sweetheart, for loving me as much as you do - it's reciprocated, believe me - and for giving me not just inspiration, but our two beautiful daughters as well. this most recent album is a result of being around my three girls, my family, my whole world and reason for being, and it's all for them, as is everything i do. my wife is here, and i think our daughters are watching from home with nana, so i just want to say - my darlings, i love you so so much. thank you for everything you do for me. this award is yours, really". and you're just fucking SOBBING at the table, clinging onto carly (also sobbing. actually, all the girls are, and so are the boys), and when matty gets back to his seat the two of you have a big hug and a(n arguably damp) kiss. then your phone buzzes with a text from denise - a video of the girls standing in front of the tv in your living room, your eldest like "look! daddy's on the telly" and jumping up and down excitedly, and your little one going "mummy and auntie carly too!" when it cuts to a shot of the two of you during matty's speech, and the two of them getting even more hyped when they realise daddy is talking about them lol. and you show matty, giggling like "well, your mum's never getting them to bed on time tonight with them that hyper; he tears up a bit again when he sees them, but laughs too and says "fuck it. let's go home and party with them tonight, instead of staying out", and you're like "honestly great idea". and you do - you and matty skip the afterparties and go home to your babas instead, staying up drinking tea and eating cookies with them until they conk out on the sofa, then carry them to their beds and fall sleepily into your own, content with the lovely night you had <3

it goes so fucking hard i just love it thank god for youtube for archiving this absolute gem (in fact im forever thankful for youtube for defying the entire purpose of sarah records, i know they wanted to be ephemeral etc but i was Not born early enough to enjoy them in real time so yeah sorry not sorry LOL)

also you have to know, it was my husband who introduced me to the field mice back in like 2016 and in the early stages of our relationship we played guitar together a Lot so we put together the chords for many field mice songs and now they exist peacefully on the internet forever (on Ultimate Guitar)... we feel so blessed to have had contributed to the fandom

out of everything in my digital footprint these are probably the things im most proud of bc i know what it feels like to run into something special and see that other people enjoy it too! i hadn't thought abt them in a while to be honest but i can see how many people accessed them/saved them to their favorite tabs and it just makes me smile to think i helped build a bridge between them and the songs they like... yeah if im gonna be a part of a thing forever this is it, this is my favorite sort-of anonymous contribution i've ever made to anything and im so happy to share this with you bc i know you understand why this means so much

well since the coup thing here just kinda sorta ended i guess i think this is as good time as ever to tell yall about my silly little modern au because why the hell not. i had this au for a while as a source for jokes but it just kept growing and growing untill. well I'm actually writing fic about (parts of) this but again it's in russian so i just want to outline the ideas. this is totally went off the rails but i like it that way

so

the catalyst of all is regurein of course

i have several variations of why the hell are they dating but one of my favourites is the one where they engage in passionate fight about twilight saga on the internet

joke about twilight saga belongs to koa. thanks koa.

the second favourite is about coffeeshop au set in two rivaling coffeeshops with questionable work practices and with money laundering probably happening in the background (or something worse?) of one of them

but anyway

reinhard's friends are taking the news very well

which means they are not, in fact, taking the news very well

julius is heartbroken

he has that wlw experience where your infinitely pretty incredibly smart unimaginably cool friend (homoerotic undertone) starts dating a guy who can be characterized only as Human Garbage

out of Friendly Concerns he and the others start the secret operation of Breaking Your Best Friend Relationships

they are not very successful

observing disgustingly sweet and/or horrifying dates with binoculars from the bushes does not bring any results

reinhard informs him that he has a boyfriend and plans to introduce him at the family dinner. in the desparate attempt to repair their broken relationships wilhelm decides that it's time to be An Ally

i'm giving him a lot of credit here but that's also a bit of copium for Me Personally so it's okay

so wilhelm googles "who are.gay people"

accidentally ends up on gay dating app

as an ally

matches with petelgeuse there

as an ally

has sex with him

as an ally

tries to think how exactly he is gonna tell reinhard that he has a new grandma now so he is forgiven

(that was a joke)

so reinhard comes to the manor/apartment/penthouse with regulus

and regulus and petelgeuse recognise each other because of course they do! they are colleagues! (or were something more? who know)

well now this is awkward

you introduced me to car seat headrest wich is one of my favorite bands ever, it also made me discover a whole new world in what the indie rock scene is. I thank you so much for that cause lo-fi indie music is my strongest passion now.

your videos are also a big comfort to me, sometimes I like to watch them and just cry cause they just have this vibe that reaches deep into my heart like nothing else does.

and don't get me started in your art because HOLY SHIT DO THEY INSPIRE ME TO KEEP MAKING STUFF MYSELF.

im curious, how does being punk affect your feeling of religion? are you still a practicing catholic/go to church?

Hahahahahaha oh boy, buckle in cause this is gonna be a fun ride. I’ll put a cut cause this is gonna be long simply due to the amount of context that is needed to understand how I’ve managed to mash these two things together in my life. I hope this answers your question anon! (And thank you for asking nicely, that usually isn’t the reaction I get).

So, for reference, I am Catholic born and raised. My mom is Catholic, my dad is only recently exploring being religious. My brother has remained a Catholic good boy throughout his life, my sister has denounced religion. I’m somewhere between them. I don’t go to church often, but I still feel at home there when I do (most of the time). So technically, I’m not a ‘Practicing Catholic’ because of that, but I’m following my faith to the best of my ability (explained below).

I 100% believe there is a god, and because of that my faith has had some rough intersections with other parts of my life, such as being punk, the communities Im a part of, and being heavily involved in STEM. And those are things that took me years to figure out for myself. When just looking at being punk though, I think where it really clicked that punk wasn’t against my religion, but actually supports it, was in my freshman year of college. Like I’ve said before, I go to a Protestant school so every class has to somehow have at least one connection to religion (as a chemistry major this can get extremely annoying). But that year, I had a history class as a gen ed, Western Civ to 1450, and an absolutely kick ass professor to go with it.

This class was the game changer for 18 year old me (oh my god that was 5 years ago). We spent a lot of time in this class talking about religions of ancient civilizations, and of course we talked about Christianity. And this man went absolutely feral. He was the man that introduced me to the concept of ‘Jesus was a punk’. And when you ignore all the random bull shit that comes out of people’s mouths at church and just look at the bible... yeah, he was right. Jesus flipped tables, he ate with societal outcasts like prostitutes and the homeless, and god did he hate the Roman government that controlled so much of the world at that time.

And I think that’s when I really felt free to embrace the punk culture. The one thing that was holding me back was gone. I also later learned that professor had a metal band (I’m now going to have to try to find his youtube again lol - its been years).

But yeah, being punk and religious in 2022 is hard. Its hard because the people who claim to be Christians are ignorant, refuse to learn, don’t know the context of the book they call holy, refuse to understand where Christianity stems from and our roots in Judaism, and keep trying to interpret the bible in a modern world (the bible can’t tell you shit about the evils of the internet man). I don’t particularly like going to church because I often find that its a snake pit disguised as a hospital. Though, that’s nothing new, if you ever take the time to read Romans (my favorite part of the bible), its full of Paul just absolutely loosing his ever loving shit because of how corrupt the churches are.

So instead of going to church once every seven days and conforming to the rest of the vipers there, I try to live my life by Jesus’ standards for interacting with others. Be kind and forgiving, try to understand other points of view, don’t discriminate based on job, color, socioeconomic status, gender, how many kids, ect. Moral of the story, in my opinion, to be a good Christian, you need to treat people as people, and welcome them with open arms. You need to give back to your community. You need to fight for a better world. You need to push back against oppressive and authoritarian governments. And those are all punk values as well.

i was tagged by @trampledundercas to talk about 8 shows to get to know me, thank you for the tag!

i’ll be talking about the shows in the chronological order in which i started to watch them, to make it easier for myself lmao.

1. buffy the vampire slayer: listen. if there is just one show. one piece of media on this earth, that you need to know about in order to understand me, it’s buffy. this show came out when i was a kid, and i watched it even though i hardly grasped what it was about back then. all i knew was that david boreanaz was hella hot and also buffy + angel forevah. obviously, as i grew up, my opinions changed, and they continue to evolve even now. (for example: season 2 was my favorite season for the longest time, but the last couple of years, season 5 sneaked up on me and is now my favorite season). every time i rewatch it, i get something new out of the experience. the way i talk, my humor, my taste in media and ships, my very being has been influenced by this show. i know in my heart that this will always be my favorite show.

2. dawson’s creek: listen. i can’t really explain this one, except for the fact that it definitely solidified my love for the friends to lovers trope, and the enemies to friends to lovers trope. it is just *chefs kiss* and yes i also watched this way too young but ehh i survived.

3. the o.c.: i was old enough to browse the internet when this show came out, thus i finally stumbled upon livejournal, and by extension, fanfiction. this was the first show i ever read fanfic for, and also m/m fanfic that i wasn’t looking for but that definitely rewired my brain for good. so. yeah. ever since, i have been permanently online. so there is that! plus - and this is a big factor too - it literally shaped my music taste to this day. next to the national, my favorite artists/bands are death cab and rachael yamagata, who i was introduced to by the o.c.

4. the office u.s.: next to the o.c., the office u.s. was a show i read a LOT of fanfic for at a formative time in life. jim/pam was my jam (hah. the ones who know, know). again: friends to lovers.... cannot get enough of it. i will say this though: once they get together, unfortunately the show did lose it’s spark for me. but alas. season 1-3 will always have a special place in my heart.

5. how i met your mother: i have a very complicated relationship with this show. a love/hate relationship, if you will. those who are familiar with it, undoubtedly know why. but this WAS a great show imo, at least when it went with the flow. again, the enemies to friends to lovers of it all.... yeah. that plus nonlinear storytelling? hellooo. sign me tf up.

6. the wire: this show was just so good. SO GOOD. it was like watching a novel come to life. it definitely changed the way i look at tv, and made me appreciate long form storytelling.

7. breaking bad: this is purely a case of excellent television. it didn’t change me as a person, perse, but i cannot picture my life withouth this experience. i binged the first 3 seasons when i was sick, in the hiatus before season 4, and watched the last two seasons live. my friends and i had a watch party for the series finale, we baked a cake and made fake blue crystal meth, it was a whole thing lmao. good times indeed.

8. supernatural. need i say more?

With Sept 1 practically around the corner I have (more) thoughts!

*I don’t actually want to know real spoilers about the season because I want to be surprised by what they come up with. But playing around with it will help pass the time!

1. No Gaul

Gaul is a cool character. I love Gaul. I’d love to see him on screen. But he doesn’t have what you’d call a dynamic character arch. He’s a good guy! He has a cute romance plotline! He’s such a loyal friend to Perrin! But if he wasn’t there the story really wouldn’t change much.

But Perrin does have another sidekick with a dramatic, tragic, more tv-friendly storyline. And Aram has already been introduced. So he’ll get the screen time. Maybe Bain and Chiad are dedicated Maidens and have no interest in letting a lover get between them and the spear?

2. No Gareth Bryne

Do I also like Bryne? Sure, he’s a pretty stand up guy with a good head on his shoulders. But what are his important points?

Thom is already here, so we don’t really need a repeat of Morgase’s jilted lover who gets chased out of Caemlyn by the headman’s axe. I’m assuming we don’t need Bryne to give Siuan a love interest (that appears to have been adequately covered). Egwene will need an army, but maybe Talmanes/the Band could do that for her? And how many great generals do you need for the Last Battle? It’ll be a big battle, but you’ve got Matt, presumably we’ll get Davram Bashere because of his relationship with Faile. We may not have quite as many fronts requiring a general (or Lan/Elayne may take more of a general role) and I doubt we need Bryne too.

3. Sammael takes Rahvin’s role

My theory is Sammael, who has a more interesting relationship with LTT, will have the screen time. Whether he’s actually splitting his time between Caemlyn and Ilian, or if the story gets combined somehow, I think he’ll be the one seducing Morgase (although how he would do that and run Ilian I’m not sure—probably why no one pays me to write anything!). Rahvin’s death is way more visually interesting than Sammael’s, so I hope he goes out in a blaze of glory.

Thank god for the internet—my family has no interest in hashing out my theories!

9. favorite smell in the summer?

If we're about June, it's lilac, for sure, had lots of them near my house... And the freshely moved loans after the rainy days... You can guess I miss my homecity, I don't like any summer smells I smell where I live now lol

12. name of your favorite playlist?

I don't like conventionally streaming music, I liked the playlist that my friend showed me with her liked 2022 songs and more and I absolutely adore Jon's (Jonny Buckland's) playlists that he made during quarantine, you can't imagine how much of a gift it is to know and have anything about this man fghjk They're all showing immaculate taste (you can find there The Stone Roses, Funkadelic, Bjork, Talking Heads, Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band, Massive Attack, to name a few) so just listing:

I messily leave notes anywhere I can reach to, I've never been good with keeping notebooks even though I always wanted to... So my options are notes apps, pieces of paper lying around, back of my lecture notebooks, some flyers I picked, anywhere lol

oh, I didn't have internet access or computer until I turned 16, so it's all not about my childhood... There used to be a great website-music-review-blog called Indiebirdie that I read and which influenced my music taste MASSIVELY: this is where I first heard about Everythign Everything with the release of Arc being reviewed just after the release, and that is why I was like "hm, bookmarking" (hecking procrastination) until the release of A Fever Dream with which I finally decided to introduce myself to the band in general, this is where I found London Grammar as the admins there were among the very first discoverers of their music... Lots to remember...

in honour of stray kids’ 5th anniversary

i would like to say that in may of 2022, i was introduced to these eight korean men in an attempt to finally get me into kpop. needless to say, it worked. my friend showed me the thunderous studio choom and i was WHIPPED. it all started with the boy with long hair…

the following week, i fell ill with the flu and decided that my time would be best spent looking up stray kids funny moments on youtube. that’s when i did some research, finding that they were a group of eight men from JYP entertainment called bang chan, lee know, changbin, hyunjin, han, felix, seungmin, and I.N. back then, i found it difficult to differentiate between seungmin and I.N, so i opted for my first ever bias, lee minho.

gradually, i got more and more invested in this group, learning that felix and bang chan were australian, lee know likes cats, han grew up in malaysia and so on. my first ever stray kids mv premiere was circus. i remember distinctly staying up until 12:30am on a school night just to see it. by then my bias had turned out to be bang chan.

soon enough, i had learnt all there is to learn, seen all there is to see, and had gotten my friends into them. i was on cloud (district) 9. by the time they announced their second mini-album MAXIDENT, i had the NOEASY album, bang chan as my wallpaper, astronaut as my favourite song, and a crippling addiction. that’s when i started questioning my bias again… the savage kim seungmin threw himself towards me with full force and his oreo hair. i was officially done for.

now, i consider myself a full-fledged kpop stan with photo cards galore. i had this vision that myself and my two best friends would get tickets to see them in sydney. i bought the tickets, not realising that my parents would have an opinion on my well-being. although i had enough money to pay for the two-day trip myself, they selfishly denied us of going. to say i spiralled into a depressive state is an understatement. i cried for hours at the fact that i wouldn’t see my saviours live and in the flesh.

i sold those tickets reluctantly. although i was lucky enough to see harry styles in sydney the day after my birthday this year, my mum posed the question: “was it worth missing out on stray kids?” and the simple answer is no. absolutely not. although i’ve been a fan of harry for much longer, he will never make me feel the same security and happiness that stray kids do. through stray kids, i have met so many new friends both irl and on the internet and i’ve never been happier.

they’re not just some silly boy band, they’re a source of light. they have taught me so much about myself and have been there for me when i needed it the most. and the funny part is, they have no idea who i am. and i’m ok with that. i can’t wait for the day they come back to australia so i can show them my love and support.

i’m also immensely proud of how far they’ve come. they are the top 4th gen boy group, gained billions of streams, and are performing at lolipalooza. something bts didn’t quite do so early in their career.

and now for a personal thank you to the members.

thank you for your endless guardianship for both stays and your members. channie’s room is always the part of my week i look forward to, no matter what language you choose to speak in. you have sacrificed so much, and i’m so proud of the leader you are today. i really wish you could see yourself through our eyes.

oh my god, well, there are quite a bit of you reading these silly little stories i'm posting and following me so i should probably introduce myself so you know what's going on with this blog, i guess!

hi, first of all. thanks for following and being here. it's nice to meet you. i'm caitlin. that's pretty much what this hell site knows me by. if you've come from my other blog, hello again. i'm in my twenties. i've been a fan for about a decade, i guess (i vividly remember hearing sex and asking who sang it, and now look at us) and have just finally started talking about it pretty vocally on the internet. i love to write, i've been writing for years and years on here, and now i feel like i have ideas beyond one artist, so i made this blog.

i have a few rules with my writing, so please listen!

a) if you're a minor, please do not read my writing, especially if it's mature or has sexual content. you do not need to engage with that! b) ALWAYS interact with the writing! whether that's a like, a reblog (highly encouraged), or sending an ask (the most encouraged thing ever), i literally thrive on it. it makes me feel so happy. c) if you have ideas or something, you can always send them to me and i will try to write it, but if it's something heavy or triggering, definitely ask first.

I have sent many asks to you before filled with honest yet corny-as-hell sentimental bullshit about how much your blog, and you by extension, means to me— even if we don’t even really know each other. But if this isn’t a better time to actually buckle down and give you a proper “thank you,” than I don’t know what is.

I found your blog a while back, sometime early last summer if I remember correctly, through your Guilty Gear scans. It was around the time I first started actively hunting down whatever remnants of a Guilty Gear fandom were scattered across the internet, and luckily I hit the jackpot with Tumblr (amongst other sites.) God bless whatever made you make this blog, cause the things it has done for me since then have been tremendous. From small things like your discussions about music and your random posts about vintage technology that inevitably prompt me to do deep-dives on the subject, or bigger things like your entire translation or scanning projects that open me to an entire new world of Guilty Gear media, your blog has taught me about so many new things that have molded me into the person I am today, and suffice to say, I’m proud of that person. You have introduced me to new singers, bands, books, movies, games, shows; so many goddamn things and the majority of them have turned out to be things I simply enamor. Beyond that, your art has helped me improve on my own art and has inspired me to make so much more work and work even harder. Plus, you also brought back my obsession with dragons! I used to be enthralled by dragons; collecting paintings, statues, plushies, books, you name it and I probably have it. And just to like them once more due to my exposure with the content you churn out (wether original or reblogged) is something I can also say I am grateful for. Even just ranting about personal interests in your asks or asking if you perhaps enjoy the same things that I do is something that makes me happy.

I don’t want to make you uncomfortable by saying this, but I seriously do see you as a sort of “big brother” figure in my life. It’s a parasocial relationship, sure, but I have found solitude and comfort in your blog, and even a sort of aspiration to be like you. Either way, the truth is your blog has helped me so much this year and has brought me so much more happiness than what I had before. You have seriously helped me become a better person, better in loving myself and finding something to love in the world around me as well.

So, thank you. Thank you for this blog and for everything you post on here. Thank you, and happy new years. I hope next year gives you nothing but unadulterated love. You deserve it.

Ok so, for an uncountable amount of times this has happened now, I typed a really lengthy reply to this and then cut a section of text to move it and Tumblr decided that meant "delete the whole post except the cut text and then close the post editor, deleting everything forever." It is 3:30am. I'm going to summarize what I wrote as I type it for the second time. The last two paragraphs are the only sections from the first draft that got saved.

First off, I apologize for taking so long to reply to this. Your message is extremely heartfelt and sincere and, when I got it (around noon), I wanted to think on it for a little and reread it a few times before replying.

I'm... not great... at accepting compliments. For a lot of my life I've been picked on for my physical appearance and interests so I learned how to take advantage of my size and how to project a pissed off aura to get people to leave me alone. It works very well. Online that doesn't work, and I wouldn't want it to, but offline I think I can be kind of a grumpy asshole. I try really hard to only appear to be that way. After making kids/babies cry just from being in the same space as them though, it can be difficult to think otherwise. I'm not used to people being this kind to me, let alone even admiring or looking up to me.

But the online format is nice; people just see me as an icon and if they don't like my posts/interests they can close the tab or filter it instead of making it my problem. Being able to talk about whatever on here and finding other people that also think it's interesting has helped me a lot too. Before getting into Guilty Gear around August 2021, this blog was mostly just an art reference blog with a very, very, small amount of personal posts scattered in-between when it was something I wanted to archive (like when I started HRT).

I started doing scans because I wanted to send a specific illustration to someone but could only find it in a low resolution. Since I had the GGX '07 art book and a scanner, I figured I might as well just scan it myself and it all sort of snowballed from there. The GG community has been incredibly motivating and I don't see myself quitting doing these scans/translations until there's nothing left to scanlate. Guilty Gear has done so much for me and I love the games and its setting probably more than any other series I've ever been into.

Know that I really, truly, appreciate you sending me this message. I have a little folder of nice messages like yours that I keep to look through on bad days. They genuinely mean a lot to me.

It's such an honor that the things I've posted about have inspired you and lead you to new interests, too, and I hope that I can keep motivating and inspiring you. 2023's gonna be a good year, I think, and I hope you get some of that unadulterated love too.

I listen to a lot of music, so I like to do themes for these sorts of things. This time the theme is introductions, the songs that got me into a particular band/singer. (All links are to youtube videos)

Basket Case by Greenday

An older cousin I was very close to had just gotten a copy of Dookie and was very excited to play it for me. I think he played Basket Case first because that was the hit at the time. It's also possible I'm misremembering and he played Burnout first, but Basket Case was the song my brain grabbed onto. Our music taste was mostly very different, but that album we both loved.

Happytown by Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer

A significant amount of music I listen to was introduced to me by my dad. He's a big music guy, with varied tastes, and when he likes something, he wants to share it. At the time this song came out, he and I had a regular 45 minute-ish drive weekday mornings, so we ended up hearing Happytown for the first time together.

First Love by Utada Hikaru (dance remix)

One of the first mixed CDs I got was from my high school best friend. This was around 2000, and she had a good internet connection, so she'd made good use of Napster to find a ton of weird remixes, including a dance version of First Love. She and I have since fallen out of touch, but I think of her whenever I listen to Utada Hikaru. (I linked the remix, because I heard that one first, but here's the original version)

Ghost of a Rose by Blackmore's Night

I hung out with a lot of Ren Faire people in college. One of them was a huge evangelist for the band Blackmore's Night. He pretty much forced us all to listen to Ghost of a Rose, and it was for the best. And if you were wondering, yes Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple decided to form a Ren Faire style band with his wife as a retirement project. They are awesome (musically; I know nothing about them as people).

Unmarked Helicopters by Soul Coughing

Back when it was on TV, I was an X-Files fan. And so my dad, who didn't get television at all, bought me the tie-in cd, Songs in the Key of X. The album was mostly just fine, but I was obsessed with this one song, which led to me becoming a Soul Coughing fan, a Mike Doughty (lead singer and songwriter for Soul Coughing) fan, and a Ghosts of Vroom (Mike Doughty's current project) fan.

I hope things get well for you guys and your hosts mom! I had some health stuff affect a family member not to long ago and we're still in the midst of dealing with the changes its brought. Just know your strong and will overcome what life throws at you. And thank you for letting me ramble about my little Dema/TOP fixation, I don't have anyone outside the internet to talk to about my love of this band lol. This is gunna be a tad long, and I still didn't put all the headcanons and AUs I have.

Its hard putting all my thoughts/headcanons/AUs or whatever you want to call them into words, so apologies in advance for any incoherent ramblings! Im also typing this out between breaks at work so that's also why it took so long to respond. I'm sure they aren't 100% original as a lot of my worldbuilding of this story comes from theories and AUs I've read and just took bits and pieces from so if you see something here that looks familiar to someone elses just know I don't claim these as completely original thoughts.

-I'll start with my favorite AU headcanon, which is that I think the world of Trench came to be via some sort of apocalyptic tradegy that befell the world. Possibly wiped out a massive chunk of the human population, led to the development of a walled off city(Dema), and is used as an excuse by the bishops(who I believe possibly manifested from this horrible tragedy) to enact an authoritarian type control over the city to prevent anyone from leaving. It explains why its not common for escapes to happen because everyone is conditioned to believe the world outside of Dema is uninhabitable.

I like to think the first Banditos were possibly a group of people who didn't fall for the lie that Dema was a safe haven and chose to stay in the wilderness of Trench where they chose to take in those who successfully escaped from Dema. Over time the majority of people who make up the Banditos are Dema escapees who made their goal be to saving everyone from the city.

Its also ties in the gas masks we see from Lane Boy. Whatever cause the end to happen, probably required gas masks. Possibly a nuclear war of sorts.

-On the topic of the Bishops. I don't know whether they are canonically human or semi human or what have you, but I headcanon them as non-human. Maybe some form of demon, idk, I haven't gotten that specific, all I know as I can't see them as human. I know in terms of themes they're supposed to be manifestations of mental illness, mostly depression and anxiety, but in terms of lore, I expanded on that concept and made it a part of their characters rather than just a metaphor. They feed off of misery/suffering, so things like vialism is a perfect way for them to feed. Its why their so adamant on keeping everyone in the city. Its easier to manipulate a certain amount of people in a small confined space. I have more about this using The Outside music video but it take up this entire ask if I went into more detail here.

- I see Blurryface as both a part of the bishops and their own separate being. The best comparison is that of the Holy Trinity in Christianity. God makes up The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit, yet all figures can be viewed as separate entities. All the circles of the Blurryface album(i.e, Blurry's face) are the representations of the Bishops. I know a lot of people now equate Blurry with Nico due to the song Stressed Out being Nicos song and the song that formally introduced us to Blurry, but I got so used to seeing Blurry as separate from the bishops that I can't possibly view Nico and Blurry as 100% the same. A lot of my Blurry headcanons go out the window if Nico and Blurry are just one being. It also completely negates the other bishops from the picture too. I just think Nico is more responsible for the creation of Blurryface rather than IS Blurryface. Plus the Holy Trinity comparison goes well with TOPs tendency to use Christian themes in their music.
