There was an interaction that justified my decision to bring them back home early. Also, plot holes needed to be addressed but I can’t say which ones. Basically, this was yet another roller coaster of emotions. (Note: this chapter has a trigger warning for mention of suicidal thoughts.)
The Ghost Council are the main antagonists of Season 1. They are the rulers of the Ghost World and Scratch’s bosses. The Ghost Council is controlled by four ¨normal¨ ghosts and the Chairman. The four ghost members are: Lucretia, Sir Alister, Grimbella, Bartholomew. The Chairman lacks a proper name unlike the rest of the members.
Cruel and merciless, the Ghost Council are in charge of the ghosts. They have little patience for those who fail to follow their very strict standards regardless of their situation. They think that ghosts can be easily remplaced and they usually sent those they don’t approve of to the Flow of Failed Phantoms, which it’s treated as some kind of neverending hell for ghosts.
The Chairman is the leader of them. He is usually the one that has the final word when it comes to taking decisions. He is an dark mysterious entity that feeds off the misery of both humans and ghosts (The Jig is Up). Because of this, the Ghost Council keeps the Ghost World miserable. Any sign of joy is banned and it’s haunted down. (Molly vs The Ghost World).
They are abusive bosses. There are times they call Scratch only to make fun of him (A Very Hungry Ghost). They seem to enjoy treating those beneath them poorly. They don’t care about the well-being of ghosts they consider lower status.
Another aspect is that they really disapprove of a ghost and human being friends. According to Jinx, the Ghost Council considers this ¨unnatural¨ and that the ¨dead belong with the dead and the living belong with the living¨. This very likely comes from how ghosts who work in the human world are expected to make humans miserable, not be friendly to them. (Molly vs the Ghost World).
A ghost being friends with a human can result in the ghost being sent to the Flow of Failed Phantoms as punishment.
In comparison to antagonists from other shows, they lack a real goal. They are usually too busy ruling the Ghost World to care about Scratch breaking the rules. However, this doesn’t mean that they are unaware of the situation since they send Jinx to investigate Brighton in ¨The Jig is Up¨.
After Molly destroyed the Chairman and the Flow in ¨Molly vs The Ghost World¨ they left Molly and Scratch alone, fearing Molly’s joy power as ghost.
Based on the sneak peek from Season 2, they don’t know what to do since they aren’t longer in charge of the Ghost World. They feel lost without purpose to drive them. They seem to like Scratch’s idea of ¨Enjoy their afterlives¨, their own motivations aren’t still totally clear though.
For those who'd want to know how the big confrontation would go in the TGAMM werewolf au, here it is (TW for blood, eye scream/injury, body horror, and injuries)
In case you forgot, it's established in this au that if you kill the werewolf who cursed you, you have to kill him in order to lift said curse. And as hoped for, that extends to anyone else you bit, be it intentional or an accident.
Also yes, that suspiciously familiar shadow around Scratch/Todd's eyes WAS intentional.
I wonder why Scratch is now getting an intern, even though it is 100% a temporary thing. It might just be another mandatory thing like the scare seminar, like teaching new ghosts the ropes, or it might have something to do with Scratch's "new scaring method" or something. I wanna see what this Reggie dude is about.
Theory: The Ghost Council sends him the news that he is getting an intern because of his ¨new scaring method¨ from Scare Tactics but in reality Reggie is spying on Scratch to check his relationship with the Mcgees.
I think they are going to be interested to see how Scratch was able to ¨scare¨ Molly like that and the Chairman starts getting more suspicious about him too
One last TGAMM post for now: My design for Chairman Ollie! It’ll be a while before my fic with him comes out but I had the urge to do the design now.
I still think one of the biggest tragedies of ‘Robe Knows Best’ not getting animated is we don’t get to see the ghost hair swoop!
The bottom right is how I imagine Mollie once they are both real ghosts. Ollie returns to being chairman and he gifts Molly a matching white robe. It doesn’t have any powers but it makes her taller so she doesn’t have to float up to kiss her husband. I had to draw Scratch somewhere, whenever I draw for this show he has to show up at least in the corner of the page.
