Look at this cool new t-shirt I made for fans of Abraham Lincoln! I made it on my own time, with my own resources, and without any affiliation to existing public or private institutions concerned with history, education, hospitality, culture or retail. You can find it at my new Threadless shop or directly at bit.ly/imissabe

Marilyn Monroe holding a photograph of Abraham Lincoln, her hero and father figure (1954). Photo by Milton Greene.
“The truth was that I was afraid everybody would laugh themselves to death at the thought of me having a crush on such a famous President. But I truly adored Abraham Lincoln. I used to have dreams that I was his illegitimate great-granddaughter. Before it was over, I let him (Milton Greene) talk me into taking a picture with my great-grandfather in my Cadillac car.” — Marilyn about this portrait.

Letter from a citizen to President-elect Abraham Lincoln, November 25, 1860.
I can't prove it, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that this citizen didn't vote for Lincoln.

I dressed up as Abraham Lincoln for Halloween. I couldn't get the beard off for a week and nobody commented on it causing me to develop an irrational fear I was turning into Abraham Lincoln.

i learned that not only was Abraham Lincoln the tallest American president at 6′4″ but he was the president with the largest hands. Probably the largest of any world leader in history since Maximinus Thrax. I’m talking some serious NBA level paws. Like how Marilyn had legs for days, Abe had fingers for days.
Lincoln’s mitts were, in fact, so terrifyingly enormous that he would often hide them in his coat when meeting with people or slide them into his custom-made pockets to avoid frightening women and small children. Still, a few photographs have managed to capture their likeness for posterity.
I never knew this about Abraham Lincoln but it’s the reason why some historians have later speculated he may have suffered from Marfan’s syndrome, a genetic disease that can increase height and hand size significantly. I believe also included in the list of symptoms may be low muscle tone, which is why I doubt he had it — though slender, Lincoln was a physically strong man who wrestled as a youth and was quite good.
Honest Abe’s Shaq-sized claws are one of the lesser known facts of the late great emancipator and theatre enthusiast. Another would be his voice, which was rather high-pitched and did not seem to match his imposing frame.
