Random thoughts II (because like my art I have nowhere else to post them)

I find it so interesting how canonically, in tgs, there are scenes where jekyll and hyde kind of “take over” eachother’s bodies, this effect becoming apparent when they’re eyes swap color (Interestingly enough Jekyll’s eyes are red while Hyde’s are green, kind of opposite when it comes to the stereotype of green=good and red=bad, but thats off topic). But theres also a seperate AU that people have made (I mostly see art by the youtuber Spac3_em0 but it might be other people too) where they’re personalities are just naturally the opposite, with hyde being the “good one” and jekyll being the “bad one”. I have to wonder which one came first? Either way I think its cool how they both exist.

ANYWAYS, apart from that, the au also calls jekyll “Mr. Jekyll” and Hyde “Dr. Hyde”. I thought this was so funny (probably moreso than intended, Idk why but I just thought it was so charming and such a cool detail) because Ive seen someone say before that although Jekyll and Hyde are the same person and share the same body, its Jekyll who has a medical degree, and in this au it would be Hyde, thus being Dr. Hyde instead.

First Day

A/N: Yet more of my Tokyo Ghoul Future AU, which is not quite "post-canon" in that past events (as in, during the time of TG and RE) happened differently, but that doesn't pop very often because the kids don't know much about it. Also this was fun to write, scent is a fun sense to dig into, and it's so important to ghouls!

Onwards to Ichika's first day at a new school!

The warmth of Mom's hand fades from her shoulder, and the building's shadow makes her shiver even though it's warm and sunny out today. She looks up at the school building, back down, and takes a deep breath of fresh, outside air before she steps inside. The inside air hits her as she walks in, too warm and weird-smelling, kind of like old cardboard on top of everything else. Everything else, like human, ghoul, sweat, fabric, soap, shoe rubber, the awful fake-grape smell from the girl next to her. The girl shakes out her hair, and Ichika feels her nose scrunch as she gets another whiff of it. Dad always says "don't judge people", but I'm gonna judge her just a bit. That's an awful shampoo choice. Who wants to smell like grape cold medicine? The other crowd in the entrance hall gets her attention this time. Mixing with the people coming in from the front doors, but like water and oil together, little blobs of people among each other's crowd, without really mixing. Her mom said this school is an... experiment, that's the word. Ghouls from the 24th ward come here, not just ghouls from above ground who blend in with humans. She's busy watching them spill out of the doors to the stairway that goes underground, because 24th ward clothes are always interesting to look at. The loose pants and open-sided shirts look very comfy. So, she's not looking where she walking. In front of her, a sudden strong scent, right in her face - salty, tangy sweat and the wet-pavement scent that everyone from the 24th smells like. It makes her imagine old concrete buildings covered in moss and vines, for a moment. But only for a moment. She pretty much bounces off someone a lot bigger than her, knocking the picture out of her head. A strong, very warm grip on her shoulder is keeping her on her feet. Ichika looks up at a girl and thinks of - Mutsuki-chan, brown skin and light hair. Saiko-chan, wide and solid and soft, but taller. Ichika knows she's not very big, but wow. Is this girl an older student? "Hey! Uh, are you okay?" "Yep! Thanks to your big, strong hands," and Ichika can't resist adding, "you're big and strong and I'm a fragile princess~" The other girl - and Ichika doesn't know her name - laughs loudly, and Ichika can't help but start giggling. "You're not fragile, I felt your shoulder. But you're funny," she says, grinning. The other girl pats her on the shoulder as they split up, and Ichika fishes in her pocket for the paper with her locker number on it. 208. She looks around the gigantic entrance hall full of lockers as she slowly walks - 2... 20... 208. She smiles as she swaps her outdoor shoes for indoor shoes. We didn't even learn each others' names, but maybe... maybe I already made a friend.

Hello! I'm the scar anon from before. I found your response to be quite enjoyable! Thank you for your input and for showing your unique view on my question, it was very enjoyable to read. I also appreciate the effort you put into writing so much, it was quite a welcome surprise to see.

I am here to ask another question! I am utmost curious to see what your view on body swapping is, more specifically body-swapping within the tgs version of jekyll and hyde. Not just jekyll and hyde swapping but jekyll and hyde body swapping with somebody else. I have seen a few fan-fictions, even a more recent one posted today which i definitely suggest others reading this post to check out, and I see many posts on this topic so I do know it isn't a less popular one than the discussion of shared scars but i still wanted to see your opinion on the matter. Personally I quite like the head-canon that when jekyll and hyde body swap with somebody else they swap over mentally but not physically. Meaning they still have the two minds but instead just have one body and the person they swapped with has the two bodies, being jekyll and hydes bodies, and one mind. I don't think it's something i've ever seen done before which is a bit sad, but i suppose they say if you want something done you should do it yourself so perhaps one day i shall write something on the subject.

Getting off-topic here, my bad. Back to the main subject of this question, I ask what your personal preference and overall view on body swap aus is?

Ah! Body swapping! I love that trope a lot in TGS for the unique takes you can get on it! I've seen it a few times and every time has been different and I can't wait to see what @aliens-took-my-iwa-chan's current fic (Called "That was NOT an aspirin" *cough cough for anyone who's interested in reading it*) on AO3 chooses to do! And Alien's fics have always been bangers in the past so it's certain to be good!

Your idea is very cool! Whoever swaps with them would certainly have a strange time with having two bodies suddenly! I wonder if they would change mentally at all between the two bodies - either just because of the adrenaline that Hyde's body comes with or just because of the freedom to do anything that Hyde's reputation offers?

And I wonder what it would be like for Jekyll and Hyde to be smooshed together into a single body? Would they switch mentally between each other or would it be more like an awkward mental fusion? If you do ever write that, I would love to read it, I would be very interested to see how that ends up working and what it's like for everyone involved!!!

which is an incredibly fun concept where Lanyon specifically body swaps with Hyde. Not specifically the body but literally Hyde's place in Jekyll's mind which is a very fun idea indeed because Lanyon's now the ghostly voice haunting Jekyll. It's a good demonstration of how unique you can get with body swaps in TGS given that there's two physical bodies but three people. Any body swap that makes use of that fact is always an instant favourite for me.

In a less public place, an RP I'm in with the wonderful @mediaeoflycan has been planning a sort-of body swap (more like mind swap) arc for a while now where Hyde gets swapped to Lanyon's head but, because he's Jekyll's internal bad thoughts and all that, he switches personalities a bit to become Lanyon's internal voice instead. His mockeries start to hit a little closer to Lanyon's insecurities instead of Jekyll's. Meanwhile, Jekyll who is lacking a whole half of himself, ends up a lot more numb and empty until the problem can be fixed.

One can also have a body swap where Jekyll swaps bodies with someone but Hyde stays with the body, meaning the other person now gets Hyde's voice in their head (probably much to their bewilderment and terror) and Jekyll gets his freedom for a while. Jekyll will definitely need to explain to the other person why they're now hallucinating Hyde (and probably a dozen other horrifying monsters too), why they're suddenly so sleep deprived, and maybe why Hyde can take over their body sometimes or, worse, literally make them change shape into Hyde himself.

Speaking of shapeshifting, I've seen people question several times what a transformation might look like if people swap bodies and whether it would be different at all or not. For example, if Hyde is in someone else's body, would they have a full transformation or some sort of half transformation where they get blonde curls and green eyes? Or would they get a completely new transformation to reflect their own 'inner evil'?

Anyway, for personal preferences, as I said, I love anything that makes use of the three minds so body swaps where someone else either lands as unhappy roommates with Hyde or where that person ends up becoming the ghostly figure in either Jekyll or Hyde's head. Besides making use of the medium very well, I just love imagining the reaction of that person when they find that their body swap has come with bonus unwanted side effects and the reaction from Jekyll when he realises that someone else is in the middle of experiencing his deepest darkest secret in full high definition. No lying your way out of that one.

Akira is really cool and her character evolution feels quite fitting as the daughter of Kureo. I like the way she fights and the way she has such a strong grip on her feelings and how she learns to show these more a little at a time but still staying quite reserved.

N - Name three things you wish you saw more of in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).

1- [Tenkuu Shinpan] I'd love to see more of literally anything that isn't Sniper. Yuri independantly of Nise, Nise independantly of Yuri, Kuon as a destructive force, RIKA AS A WHOLE, literally anyone else. It's not fair how everyone just looks at Sniper and ignores absolutely everything else about this series.

2- [Tokyo Ghoul] CLOWNS POSITIVITY. i'm including kanou in this. Still bitter they got excluded from the tgzine (if there are tg zines going on at twitter or whatever feel free to inform me any time btw)

3- arranged weddings and body swaps, not necessarily at once but they are things i love to see dealt with :3

Mmmm... Shirazu lives and gets more dads AU.. This got out of hands. Warning for long post bc I don't want to put it under a readmore

After Nutcracker and Hayashimura left all the rights to the quinque to him + after the haircut, Shirazu and Hayashimura become a bit closer, and like Mucchan training with Suzuya, Shiragin sometimes trains with Hayashimura. Hayashimura and Fura help him get over his thing with Nutcracker and so he trains better with the quinque and thanks to that (partially), he survives Noro (also like. Urie thinks to fucking feed him after he's injured. he thought to do that in literally the first arc. come on.).

And so after Rose, he ends up with the Noro quinque and he doesn't give Nut to Hayashimura but like. he lends it to him and stuff and idk he takes smoke breaks with Fura and Fura invite him to dinner with his family sometimes and Hayashimua also adopts him and Shirazu improves rapidly and becomes a great leader for the Quinx, even after Haise distances himself from them.

And Urie isn't, like, happy about all that but he accepts it somewhat because of how scared he got to lose Shirazu in the end. And Saiko begins to take things seriously. And Shirazu is the one to visit Hinami in prison and he starts advocating not to kill her because she's Sassan's little sister and he gets it, you know?

And Urie still got closer to Matsuri but in a, like, diminished measure since he isn't squad leader. Matsuri's still crushing on him and inviting him to dinner but he has to invite the rest of the Quinx with him because otherwise it's weird. And therefore the Quinx get closer to the Washuu Clan and Yoshitoki just loves Shiragin and he's glad his son's making some friends. Iyo and Saiko become friends too, Saiko teaches her to play Mario Kart or something.

And the Quinx begin to smell something weird about the Washuu thanks to their super senses, even if they're not really sure to identify it (think the way Hide hid from ghouls but the other way around?)

And Shirazu takes the Robed Giant case seriously and so they meet on Rushima after finding Mutsuki all messed up, and Saiko manages to get the rights to him because Shirazu's the leader and not traumatized Urie. And I guess Yoshitoki either dies (i don't want him to but. for plot) or manages to fake his death and flees with Marude.

Cue Koutarou in Cochlea when his dad finally got out :) Cue Saiko visiting Koutarou all the time, sometimes accompanied by Shirazu. And Shirazu just doesn't believe what he's told about Sasaki, and when Koutarou gets closer to Saiko (they were made to be besties fight me), he starts telling her stuff off the record and so she asks Hsiao, which never confirms or denies anything. So Saiko takes Shiragin and has Koutarou tell him all he told her.

And Shirazu who has felt icky about his job since Nutcracker becomes extremely wary of the CCG politics. But Matsuri, who was their sorta friend clearly needs support so they stay close to him and therefore he gets a bit better and poses a real problem in terms of succession. Iyo takes the destroying of the Washuu clan as an opportunity to ask for divorce. Matsuri takes the divorce as an opportunity to be a little honest with Urie (not about his crush but about him being gay and Urie's like #same.) and they get closer bc they both have unrequited feelings for some guy and dead daddy issues.

And then the Clowns Raid happens. And it's Shirazu with Urie when they get to Donato. And while Urie is crucified on the ceiling Shirazu manages to talk to him like wait aren't you Amon Koutarou's dad? A-Owl? Floppy? And idk how it leads to that but after a bit, the Quinx, like, desert the CCG and help Koutarou get out of Cochlea with Donato (shhhh this is pure self indulgence), and it doesn't go exactly well because the Clowns are awful and welp they can't really go with them, but Amon stays with the Quinx that he decided to adopt while Donato goes back to the background where people forget about him until the next strike like he does so well

AND Amon has connection to Hide so they go find him which means they also find Matsuri, who they thought died in the raid, and there they learn everything about the CCG and the Washuu and they get Haru treated after getting her out of the CCG hospitals bc they feared they'd let her die after the Quinx' defection.

This and that happen but in the end the Quinx end up becoming the bridge between ghouls and humans they were meant to be and therefore Souta's plan doesn't need to be implemented anymore and Shirazu goes to talk to Goat and stuff and Kaneki's being a bitch but Haise in his brain beats him up and ta-dah Goat returns to society and slowly ghouls become actually accepted and are furnished human flesh instead of disgusting fake meat and humans don't turn to ghouls out of nowhere and Tokyo isn't destroyed and Kaneki gets therapy and when he's all better and Touka got some classes on domestic violence, then and only then does she ask him to date her. And it doesn't work out anyway but they tried.

Kaneki and Hide talk a lot and start a friendship again. Kaneki apologizes to Shuu properly. And now that the death threats have subsided, Shuu realizes he can't forgive him after all, going back to his Rose arc mentality. Kaneki tries to make amends. Suzuya suggests that he stays with him with his squad or something and at first it doesn't work well but it ends up becoming a safe place where Kaneki can heal. Touka gets together with Nishikimi and it works out a lot better than it ever would have with Kaneki.

Eto is dead dead after Cochlea btw but all the remaining half-ghouls and quinx and half-humans stick together and become one big family and Amon's their dad and Takizawa is the weird uncle. And Kurona becomes besties with Urie because I said so. Mutsuki takes a while to heal. He has sparring matches with Takizawa and Suzuya and none of them feels pain so it gets very horrible very quickly but it works out for them. Urie gets over his crush on Mutsuki as he finds more and more people to care about and rely on. Mutsuki still obsess over Haise but in a more healthy way.

And Roma didn't die since Souta's plan didn't go through. She flees to find somewhere more fun. Shiko alternates with staying with Takizawa and staying with her. No one manages to follow him to find her. No one has heard about Souta or Donato but they're actually sticking pretty close to keep an eye on things (Souta on Rize, Donato on his son). They're good at staying stealthy and somehow never get found out even when they're not even really trying anymore. Souta dies at 30 of old age and only Donato, Roma and Nico are there for him in his last moments.

Yomo's taking care of Rize but after her last trip to V's labs she never quite heals. I want to talk about other characters but my head is drawing a blank so idk I think Tomoe would do something similar as what she does in 179, but through Takizawa she meets the Quinx and doesn't exactly forgive Amon but tolerates him. Saiko loves her to bits. Talking about Saiko, her brother left their mom too and lives with the Quinx as well. Yeah it's giving 2012 Avengers Tower vibes shush

And to end this, Matsuri and Urie get married and Shirazu gets also adopted by Marude and Iwaccho and now has *counting* well. a lot of dads.

I haven't reread this and made it up as i went so i hope it's at least slightly coherent.

Well, I prefer happier endings, but I'll admit that bittersweet spice is in my cabinet. Maybe i am writing graffiti on your body or i fall in love whenever we meet.

I have, on occasion.

I do! I write lots of flavors, lots of pairings... I've written a lot for fic swaps and requests, so I have (and will) tried a lot of different stuff I may or may not have any personal interest in. I write a considerable amount of BDSM or D/s-flavored stuff.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Sure. At first, I was thinking the craziest was my Gay-Perry-is-Danny-Parker Kiss Kiss Bang Bang/The Salton Sea crossover, but then I remembered I wrote a Thunderheart/MCU crossover for Carla, so. (I did also write a Captain Marvel/Top Gun xover, but canon was BEGGING for it.)

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yes! Several. In various ways, in various fandoms, over the past two decades. In fact, a fairly well-known author has ripped off several of my works, but they're not full copy-and-paste jobs, so I cannot report them and am just, as the French say,

I think that's the shit that makes me the maddest. The straight up copy-and-paste plagiarizers are just kind of sad.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! I have eight translations on AO3, into Russian, Mandarin, and Korean. I also have eight podfics and some number of remixes.

Yes. My latest is upcoming next year, the story @topgunreacts and I wrote for @topgunzine

Decapolice X Master Detective Archives: Rain Code

Contain spoilers for MDA. If you haven’t played or watched a playthrough of the game, I suggest you don’t look at this post.

Harvard’s Book of Death and Yuma in Decasim

In Rain Code, the reason why the main protagonist of MDA Yuma has amnesia is because he made a pact with Shinigami to have her powers. With her, he can go to a Mystery Labyrinth to solve the mystery and find out how did it. When he finds the culprit, Shinigami reaps their soul and kills them.

In Decapolice, the protagonist and his team use a virtual reality called Decasim. When a mysterious company has a hacker disrupt the system, it changes the avatars from normal humans to animal plushies.

Now what if you take the two core mechanics and protagonists and swap them both from their settings?

Yuma with Decasim would possible work out a lot better for him than it did in his canon game.

In the game, Yuma really hates using Shinigami’s powers because every time they use it it takes the life of a criminal. It gets worse in both Chapter 2 and Chapter 4 where he has to kill three people at once and a person who is very close to. Poor guy is going to have so much trauma after this.

Here with Decasim, there doesn’t seems to be any killing the criminals they caught. (Althrough in the TGS demo, Carl mentioned being hurt by the Crime Beast and the punch from the security robot so it still hurts, so maybe if the Crime Beasts get way worse later in the game…..) As for Harvard with the Book of Death……. Well it would be the opposite. I mean with how the person views it.

Harvard views the book as a perfect way to stop criminals. After all, most criminals get out of jail sometime in their life. This would lead to the same thing happening over again and with more people suffering. But with him, it would more possible to stop. He would actually enjoy using the book to takedown every criminal he finds with Shinigami delightfully encouraging him. So, people like him won’t have to lose their loved ones.

As for how Harvard interacts with Shinigami, he would play along with her, going with the ‘master and servant’ role. Making her bow down to him and giving her cute nicknames.

For instance, when they do their ‘thing’, Harvard would have a more confident and smug look on his face and would probably make flirty comments towards her to make a certain detective feel jealous.

But like Yuma, he would freak out at the sight of her ghost form and demand instantly to know who she is. In this au, Harvard would have make a deal with Shinigami in order to find the Clown to avenge his mother’s death like his original game. But in order to prove his worth, he goes to Kanai Ward to find out their ‘Ultimate Secret’.

If Shinigami was in Decapolice, she would be a AI assistant from the hacking that came along for the ride. She would still have the same personality traits except put away the obsession with death and put in a new crime obsession. She would hassled Yuma and his team for a few chapters but eventually would turn around and try to help them find the criminals and the people behind the hack.

I’ve seen a lot of different posts going around about a Jekyll/Hyde swap AU, so I thought I’d give my two cents with this little blurb! I’m sorry for the formatting I wrote this in my notes app in 10 minutes and am posting it from my phone

This is mostly just because I like the idea of an evil!Jekyll being a silver-tongued master manipulator. He’ll worm his way into your social circle, and before you know it he’ll have them under his thumb and thirsty for your blood. I also like the idea of Hyde being an almost Robotnik type, where he loves his work and he loves helping people but he also fucking hates everybody

Ooo very interesting! Amazing response as always, very enjoyable read! I do admit at first I wasn't quite big on the idea of playing around with the 3 minds getting swapped around rather than just the bodies swapping, but I think you're starting to drag me into the concept a little bit hah! I can definitely see why you like it. I think a body-swap au with hyde staying in the body of jekyll as the usual shadow would be quite interesting to play with. A possible twist and to speed up the plot overtime could be that overtime jekyll and hyde start decaying both physically and mentally as they are both half a soul or person from the split, at least from my perspective that is, and having one half be removed fully would probably have pretty bad effects overtime. I know others have their different ways of interpreting the jekyll and hyde potion and its effect on things but thats just my personal view on it and I always enjoy hearing others opinions on the matter!

I wasn't originally going to write a response as per usual with my asks but it seems that i've gotten a bit dragged in and invested in this discussion! All credit due to the great responses from you as always.

Ah, thank you! Yeah, different people will probably have their different tastes when it comes to the different kinds of body swaps but, the good thing about TGS is there are lot of varieties to choose from! Something for everyone!

Damn, the two of them decaying! That makes a lot of sense and is certainly an angsty idea! Certainly multiple ways to go about that too, whether it's a physical decay or a mental decay - though a physical decay might not be good depending on who is in whose body and exactly which body is decaying. RIP that person, being stuck in Jekyll's body as it rots with them in it because it's physically unstable without its other half.

I wonder in terms of a mental decay what would happen if they decayed all the way? Would the body be empty? Can they swap back if there's no longer anyone to swap with? Would the decay stop if they got back to their regular body and would the damage be reversable?

If both happen at the same time, everyone involved is truly in for a bad time. One person physically struggling while another is mentally struggling and they have to work together to try to fix the situation before it's too late

Many many possibilities, all of them with great angst potential >:)
