Reasons Why I Think TFP Jack is Underrated:

Welcome to my organized bullet list of why I think Jack is cool. I used to think he was boring too, but now I think he's the goat and here's why:

-He has Main Character Energy, but he's more snarky than most cliche main characters

In fact, he is a petty king:

-He doesn't wanna be on Team Prime at first, but eventually accepts it...

...He then proceeds to BURN Airachnid's ship to the GROUND with a stupid survival kit for babies

-HE DEFEATED THE ALIEN SPIDER QUEEN WITH NOTHING BUT A LIGHTER AND A POCKET KNIFE, BRO

-HE WAS DONE WITH HER BULLSHIT LOL

-Plus he tricked Silas by pretending to beg for mercy, when really, he was stealing his walkie talkie.

-Jack is boring, BUT the fact that Jack has nothing special about him IS his superpower; Miko has the Apex Armor and her brave personality, Raf has genius level computer smarts, and Jack has PURE SPITE. It's beautiful.

-He has zero skills, but he'll figure out how to defeat his enemies anyway, SOLEY because he's tired and doesn't get paid enough for this shit.

-For example, in one of the Titan Magazine comics, Jack literally kicks Silus in the balls

Evidence:

-A true legend

-He's also a mess though, and I relate so hard

-He's so petty he talked two aliens into helping him cheat at street racing to piss off his classmate

-His romantic subplot is treated like a complete joke, and I love that. Normally, the Main Character✨ is awkward, but gets the girl in the end. Not Jack, though. Nope. He just constantly looks stupid in front of Sierra, nothing ever happens between them, and Arcee is just watching with popcorn as his life falls apart. It's hilarious.

Also, if I'm correct, isn't the last time we see Sierra when she sees Arcee's homoform, and thinks Jack has a girlfriend, and then Jack is like "She's my mom😅." And Sierra's all like: "Your mom looks good in leather😐...on your bike😐😐😐😐..." Maybe I'm wrong, but if that's the case, it's funny. Jack is a simp and it gets him nowhere.

-His sarcasm works perfectly with Arcee's sarcastic attitude.

-Also Tailgate is voiced by Josh Keaton (Jack's voice actor) in the flashbacks, so I headcanon that Jack reminds Arcee of Tailgate, and that's why she has such a soft spot for him.

Tailgate and Arcee's dialogue had the same vibe as her and Jack's

Also, it gives more context to why she was so scared to lose him when Airachnid showed up. It would've literally been like losing Tailgate all over again.

-Jack is Team Prime's designated Good Ideas Guy

It was Jack's idea to hijack the spacebridge to send him to Cybertron

It was also his idea to drain the dark energon out of The Nemesis when it came alive and froze everyone

-I'm probably just projecting, he has generalized anxiety disorder vibes

-I feel like he prefers a comfortable, predictable life because he gets nervous easily

-He's always the first to freak out, and overthink, and Arcee always has to calm him down

-And she's so patient with him it's so sweet😱

-I agree the writing behind his existence is meh, and a lot of the cool stuff about him is probably unintentional, but I don't care, so take that!

Anyway, the moral of the story is:

Jack is just an angry little harmonica boy. Leave him alone. He's trying his best😭

THAAAAAT’S RIIIIGHT! It’s everyone’s favourite time! Keef watches TFP and you just get the notes!

This is for season 1, episode 9: Convoy.

I write down the timestamps, but I watch Transformers Prime on Stan (an Australian streaming service) so they may be slightly off.

Also, I’ll warn, I don’t have a lot to say. (Not compared to other episodes)

00:16 - good. (I don’t like Fowler, he’s unnecessarily rude.)

00:21 - hehe Dingus.

00:49 - Raf’s got his priorities straight.

00:52 - Miko’s reaction

01:14 - you already know that a bunch of children had to ask their parents what Propagate means.

01:28 - Optimus knows Fowler would be a reckless driver. But I can also imagine that it’s just generally very uncomfortable and unnecessary stressful for the boys whenever someone else is driving. If not, then I’m making it a hc.

02:53 - WOOOOW FOWLER. JUST WOW.

03:07 - Optimus uses that T.H.I.N.K acronym and I will not hear otherwise.

03:18 - if the yellow dot is where the D.N.G.S is, why is it placed between two orange dots? Bee hadn’t moved in front of Optimus yet.

03:22 - I mean.. the truck’s obviously being escorted by two other cars. Why would they assume that all three are unarmed?

03:42 - that’s rich.

03:48 - damn right, Optimus! Shut him dooown! Also Bee, Get back in the lane.

03:55 - translation, ‘a worse evil’

04:15 - Bulkhead said that, but Stan decided Ratchet did.

04:29 - From what we know, most of the cons are greys, black and purples. These are green. The decepticons have a colour scheme going, why would there all of a sudden be a bunch of green cons??

04:54 - that was what Bee did in the first episode.

05:09 - why.. why was his window open?

06:33 - someone that knows transformers lore, could you tell me.. would Optimus be able to feel that?? At the end of the day, that’s still apart of his body.

07:04 - that made me laugh, ngl.

08:23 - Bee really ain’t doing anything, huh? Like they’re breaking in from behind and Bulkhead can’t do anything.

08:41 - oh yeah, forgot about Arcee.

09:03 - makes the whole thing a lot more twisted.

10:44 - FOWLER. WHEN WOULD THE BOTS HAVE GOTTEN AIR SUPPORT?!

10:51 - that’s what it’s like rocking up at school wearing your uniform.

12:23 - Transformers Running well never not be funny.

12:26 - they look like frogs on two feet.

12:37 - specifically watching Bee fight is so entertaining (not just because he’s a favourite, also because he’s really bouncy during his fight scenes.)

12:42 - Optimus moving as though the punch was a minor inconvenience.

12:43 - then he just destroys the con.

13:25 - the big eyes and the cute wave, I caaaan’t!!

14:01 - “I understand-” d o n k

14:12 - Isn’t Fowler able to.. see the fight? Wouldn’t he have seen Optimus get dinked off the cliff.

14:16 - he was taken down by some wood. If you know, you know.

14:25 - Arcee and Bee jumping is the strangest visuals ever.

14:27 - that’s just a group hug in a buttshell.

14:34 - I would love to hear the bloopers for this. How did the VAs manage to say ‘DNGS’ without dying of laughter.

14:37 - you’re telling me that they didn’t have a backup plan??

14:53 - It’s strange hearing ‘suicide’ in a show that probably has a large child audience.

15:00 - How Ratchet pronounced ‘yours’ sounds so out of character that it made me cry. He cares so much he forgot to be an old man.

15:01 - When you watch this scene, watch how Ratchet moves. Like it’s so appealing the way he doesn’t stop moving.

15:54 - did they seriously only have one person in the cart with the D.N.G.S? Seems very flawed.

16:58 - to be fair… yes. He’s right.

17:14 - I’m so confused as to why they went on the train in the first place. Yes it was a bad idea- OF COURSE IT WAS A BAD IDEA AND IT DID NOTHING!

17:15 - BIG TALK, MIKO! Raf was working remotely and managed to give them more time. (I don’t understand how, though, because it seems that they went a different route)

17:32 - quick shoutout to character design. Look at the detail on Optimus’s helm here.

17:55 - I’m pretty sure that the using a fire extinguisher the normal way is going to prove more useful than whatever Jack is planning on doing.

19:38 - Excuse me, but… what?. Just… what??? Also does anyone else see any parallel between Miko and Jack and Optimus and Arcee? Where Miko’s trying to think of different ideas of how to get out while Jack’s like ‘we may die, but I’m just gonna accept that’. And in Scrap heap Arcee was trying to think of different ways to stay alive and Optimus is just like ‘if I stay here and relax there will be an outcome. The outcome may be death, but I’m alright with that.’

20:09 - Optiman, Optiman, does whatever an Optimus can. Can he swing from a web? No he can’t, but he can stop a fraggin train. Look oooooout, Optimus aboooout.

20:28 - I may have laughed loudly when I noticed the unconscious guy.

20:49 - Silas really went ‘GG but-’

20:53 - no. What. The. Actual. Fuck?. When and where did he get that??

So that was Convoy. Because the episode was more focused around the humans than the bots I always found the episode kind of boring.

But considering the episode is mainly about introducing MECH, it’s one that I would watch in a binge, but not one that stands out.

Although being a human focused episode, I thought that they came off either annoying, dumb and/or punchable (with the exception of Raf, he did a good job), particularly Agent Fowler. I hate him in this.

Tfp head cannon

So I have read a fanfic recently (mainly part 1) about what if Megatron meet Nemesis Prime. ("Know Thy Enemy" by YunaYamiMouto on AO3) And it got me thinking. Like here are some quotes from this:

"The mech before him turned around, something ... not quite right in his movement. In fact, he held himself all wrong. Even as a data archivist, Orion had held himself more regally than that fake Prime, Sentinel, ever could. The shape of the body in front of him was right, but the motions were all wrong. Yes, Optimus had always held himself as a fighter: proud back straight, shoulders bravely squared, helm held high as he regarded any enemy that might oppose him, [...] Whether he knew it or not, both as Orion Pax and as Optimus Prime, he had a very sensual motion to his hips, whether he was standing still, charging into battle or strolling into a verbal sparring match. It could be quite distracting, if one was not used to it or of a weak processor and resolve. Gladiators and soldiers both had ran into things when the red and blue mech used to pass them by on his way to Megatron, whether it be in the streets of Kaon or the battlefield. The shape before him was right and held itself halfway decently, [...].

Seen or unseen, heard or unheard, Optimus Prime's presence was always felt. It wasn't even just Megatron. Every bot felt it when Optimus Prime set foot on the battlefield. The Autobots started fighting harder, the Decepticons found it far more difficult to hold the line but they didn't give up ground easily, either, though most of their fields sang with the need to run and Megatron always felt his spark skip a few harmonics. Optimus could be on the other side of the battlefield entirely, miles upon miles separating them so not even their sharp optics could pick each other up and yet he'd always know Optimus was there." And here is what got most of my attention:

""I must admit, I'm impressed. It took the other robots a lot longer to figure that out," the imposter said in sub-vocals that were distinctly human despite the robotic drawl of the vocalizer it was using. Megatron growled, optics narrowed, EM field lashing out in anger. The other didn't react, only straightening Megatron's suspicions about this fake being a drone. Created by the fleshlings of this pathetic, cursed planet, no doubt. [...]

"I am Silas, but more importantly, we are MECH," 'Silas' responded in a proud, arrogant tone [...] It only made him hate the human and the impersonator of his rival even more. "I was honestly expecting Optimus Prime here, but instead I got you. And just who might you be?"

"Megatron of Kaon, the Lord of the Decepticons. Why are you impersonating Optimus Prime, filth?"[...]

"MECH is always searching for new technology. As soon as we learned of your species' presence on Earth, we started studying you until we finally managed to build you. Optimus Prime was the strongest, sturdiest robot we knew of, so we made a copy of him. Only we made him better."

Megatron couldn't help it. He laughed in the human's face. The mere notion of someone thinking they could create a better Optimus Prime than the bot himself was so ridiculous it was bordering on mad. "You are so delusional, human, that I actually pity you. You can't make a better Optimus Prime!"

"And why is that?"[...]

"Because Optimus Prime is perfect," replied the gray mech instantly, feeling no shame in admitting something that he had thought even before the Matrix had reformatted his enemy. "From spark to mind to frame, Optimus Prime is the pinnacle of perfection in a Cybertronian. A little too naively idealistic and optimistic, perhaps, but even Primes aren't flawless." [...] "What made it so easy to tell you apart from the real Optimus Prime is that you've chosen to replicate the closest thing to perfection itself and you've failed miserably."

"I find myself doubting your words, Megatron of Kaon, as I am quite confident this perfect mend of man and machine can defeat you." Megatron only grinned more at that. A fight is what he had been invited to, so a fight is what he will get, though he will have to find the real Optimus after he's finished with this pathetic fool. This stunt he's pulled is quite sneaky for Optimus' standards. [...] Luring Megatron out to fight his fake would keep his Autobots safe without worrying himself at the consequences of meeting the weak copy in close combat." There is also this moments, that absolutely is my favourite: "Even if he hadn't known this wasn't Optimus already, the stance the other picked would have told him everything, as would the fact that he attacked first. They had locked themselves in an unconscious dance throughout the centuries, taking turns in who's leading with the first attack. The last time they faced off was Optimus' turn, which meant this time it should have been Megatron's. Even though it wasn't a conscious decision on their part, it repeated itself like a general law of dynamics. They never strayed from the pattern. The fact that this fake Optimus engaged first in servo-to-servo combat was also completely un-Optimus-like, as the Prime always first engaged him in a firefight to discourage close combat, as it usually led to longer battles, higher risks, more casualties and more energon lost in the process." _____________ " After the long millennia of fighting with his dearest rival and the centuries before that of them being as close as brothers, Megatron knew every minute shift of Optimus' every nut and bolt and screw. To most of the universe, Optimus was as stoic as they come, especially if he engages his battlemask. In truth, he was very expressive, if only one knew where to look. Not only the optics gave him away. Megatron could see the direction his opponent might be going or on just what Optimus was focused on by tracking the movement of those ridiculously endearing audio finials of his. They were as telling as seeker wings or door-wings, particularly in Praxians." ___________ ""You are a special kind of fool, flesh bag. I know the body of Optimus Prime better than his medic! I know best how to both bring him pain as well as pleasure. Perhaps you would have been a better challenge had you picked anyone else for your little experiment. It would have at least held an element of surprise! As it was, this was rather disappointing.""

I thought I was going to fall and not get up when I read this. The dynamic between them both in this fic is incredible. I sincerely recommend reading it, specialy if you ship them togeher (if you do not then read scenario 2, it won't disapoint). ;)

Ah mmmm well

You know how in mermaid stories, the mermaid is typically the dumber one? I present to you the "and they were both scientists" plot.

Basically the concept is that mermechs and regular mechs can't talk to each other. But luckily even if they speak different languages they still use the same math~

I discovered a bunch of simpatico mer-fics. So. I wanted to do something with this concept too haha. If some physicist happens to read this - feel free to laugh at me. I know nothing about science👍

Lowkey, I think one of my favorite little things about Rescue Bots is how we get to learn a little more about Optimus when he shows up. Like, not war stuff or Orion Pax stuff, but just little things about Optimus.

One of his favorite Earth stories is The Little Engine That Could. Does he read in his spare time and if so, how did he find Little Engine?

He tells Heatwave that he has also been learning from humans. What has he learned? The phrase "Nothing much, double dutch." Who the fuck taught him that? My money's on Miko. Jack would not have the audacity to add that to Prime's vernacular.

He has a motherfuckin' rocket powered car carrier capable of hauling four bots. And since Team Prime had four four-wheelers on the team prior to Darkness Rising, you could reasonably assume that he has used it with Cliff, Bee, Bulk, and Ratch

Optimus knows what a pogo stick is. That isn't anything noteworthy, I just think it's funny.

This is for season 1, episode 16: Operation: Breakdown

I write down the timestamps, but I watch Transformers Prime on Stan (an Australian streaming service) so they may be slightly off.

ALSO! I try my best to note points for every character, but tend to get a little caught up by Bee (although I think I do a pretty good job with the notes regardless) so do be warned.

These notes are really critical and may give you whiplash + not many screenshots for this episode, sorry.

~~~~Transition~~~~

00:07 - first up, this visuals, the audio, really makes the place seem eerie. It’s perfect.

00:23 - Breakdown manages to keep it creepy.

00:38 - All things considered, decepticons calling humans ‘pets’ is not so much an insult as it is an interpretation.

00:47 - Once again, not so much an insult as it is a statement. Miko is a soft spot for Bulkhead (she’s also a weakness and a strength.).

00:51 - A ‘damn right’ would’ve been more suited, but go off

00:55 - beautiful spin. + I much prefer the rivalry between Breakdown and Bulkhead to Arcee and Airachnid. On paper both rivalries are the same. The decepticon is physically stronger, but also talks a lot during fights to get in the Autobot’s head and it totally works. It’s just that Bulkhead responds less to Breakdown’s taunts and doesn’t get as heavily affected by them (compared to Arcee).

01:10 - I may have laughed a bit too hard. + It feels like Breakdown has more respect for Bulkhead than Airachnid does for Arcee. One thing that makes an amazing rivalry is when there’s a level of respect.

01:46 - Aside from plot, why would they take Breakdown? As much as it increases their chances of dealing with the autobots, he’s in worse condition than Breakdown and they have an understanding of how much Bulkhead can endure.

02:37 - I had the same reaction as Bulkhead.

02:46 - Not liking the theme of ‘charge not recognising when something’s wrong with their guardian and what they’re doing is not the solution’. I can’t quite remember if it happened in Predatory, but I do know it happened in Out of His Head.

03:04 - Bee’s doing it again.. + For anyone else the phrasing Optimus used would be putting it nicely, for Optimus it’s harsh. Bulkhead has a very different dynamic with Optimus compared to the others so I think it’s more caused by Optimus not knowing how he’s supposed to talk to Bulkhead.

03:08 - now what Optimus said makes it feel victim blame-y. It isn’t, but it comes off that way.

03:12 - Something about the ‘stay still’ felt so.. correct. It was firm and assertive, but in the way instructions should be given.

03:14 - Miko’s probably got something that means she can’t pick up on cues, probably ADHD (this is an observation, not an insult.), with that in mind, I will still say it’s frustrating to see her hyping him up while he’s injured and in trouble.

03:16 - One of the reasons I don’t like Miko and Bulkhead’s dynamic is the same reason as to why I hated the way Raf was acting when Bee was being controlled by Megatron, but to a worse extent. Miko, on purpose or by accident, puts pressure on Bulkhead to act a certain way for her. You can see he’s upset because he didn’t do it and that’s heartbreaking.

03:23 - Bulkhead woke up alone, why would the others have come, dealt with Breakdown, but left Bulkhead behind?

03:33 - I understand that it was a guess and that Bulkhead ain’t the smartest, but why would it be Fowler?

04:20 - big talk from someone that was tricked into saving Optimus.

04:46 - that shot was confusing. It implied that it was from Breakdown’s perspective but quickly changes.

05:08 - Kinda vibing with that description of a human.

05:10 - That was weirdly passive.

05:22 - breakdown deserves better.

05:30 - do they though? I thought they only wanted parts.

05:46 - Agent Fowler really stepping up rn.

06:00 - I have no clue what he could’ve possibly said.

06:07 - Seeking Validation from Miko.. Not how the dynamic should roll and really hurts to witness.

06:09 - Prime holding onto his values. Finally someone’s got their head screwed on. Throughout the delivery of his command, he was jolting slightly. Not heavily-animated, but certainly not ordinary.

06:15 - ‘h-what??’

06:17 - has everyone just forgotten their Values?? (Maybe- I seriously am in the dark on what Bee’s saying) Their whole thing is about rights and freedom. + They know MECH is smart and dangerous. Obviously they’re going to use Breakdown as a reference for Cybertronian Technology.

06:37 - This scene is so weird.. Why is there so much pushback??

07:02 - Fowler really showing change rn by admitting that MECH is dangerous to humans too, clearly in contrast to how he acted during Convoy.

07:11 - Glad that was addressed too.

07:14 - MECH’s location really ain’t impressive in the slightest.

08:05 - Breakdown’s reactions are making me cry. Since he works with (and dates-) Knockout, you can imagine that he’s heard some of these lines before, but it’s a whole different thing to have them told to him.

08:18 - This is heartbreaking. I thought the scene would’ve ended sooner, but it didn’t and that makes it so much worse.

08:29 - there’s something so.. perfect about this shot.

08:32 - deary dear de I’m gonna loose my mind with the way Optimus (aka Peter Cullen) pronounces each character’s name.

08:33 - There’s something so unbelievably confusing about Bulkhead’s relationship with Optimus.

08:40 - My school should learn a thing or two from Optimus rn. History with people can make things complicated. Optimus is making the right call, for Breakdown, for Bulkhead and for everything else that’s at stake.

09:18 - Go off, Fowler. Really behaved this episode and proved useful… Miko’s giving me whiplash.

09:30 - cover poster potential.

09:43 - Why would that be the right call? Tracks are clues in a situation with vehicles involved.

09:47 - I feel like that isn’t actually a direction.

09:52 - Height difference- also colour palettes got me laughing fr. Like Arcee and Optimus have darker colours, better for blending in. Ratchet’s white and orange, but because of the blue hue he blends in a bit, meanwhile Bee’s just neon. He looks like a highlighter.

09:55 - that’s an unfortunate concept. There’s a little part of me that wants to say that it’s a ploy (honestly cannot remember much of this episode) as it could be the same energon signal Bulkhead and Breakdown were responding to at the start and that’s why there was a focus on the tracks.

09:56 - Kongs vs Godzilla

10:12 - TFP didn’t have the rights to ‘Godzilla vs King Kong’

10:31 - translation: we’re exes. But in all seriousness, rivalries are always looked on in some sort of light but this is a prime (Hehe) example of what they can also be like.

10:45 - heavily animated Bulkhead

10:46 - Miko really just used ‘bromance’ and decided not to explain.

11:17 - Bee running like a child while Optimus just walks is an incredible visual despite the darkness of the episode.

11:21 - Arcee and Bee aren’t in sync but their movements are clearly practiced.

11:33 - Bee’s wings are sticking out. SERIOUSLY HOW DOES THIS BOT HIDE??

11:38 - They’re like dogs when you take them on a walk with the leash more relaxed.

11:41 - wouldn’t they benefit more from Optimus being behind Ratchet? Incase they’re attacked from behind and all.

11:52 - Horrifying and gross.

12:41 - under appreciated line right here.

12:47 - Optimus didn’t move, while everyone else reacted.

12:50 - Wouldn’t Silas have seen Ratchet first? Granted he wouldn’t know Ratchet.. or any other bots’ names, but he should’ve waited a moment to spot Optimus before addressing him.

12:57 - Optics- not eyes.

13:01 - all bots acting very calm.

13:16 - if Optimus had finished that line with ‘a lil bitch.’ I’m certain the show would’ve won thousands of awards.

13:19 - they’re not like other girls.

13:39 - it’s very heavily implied that there’s bomb. Why aren’t they moving??

14:15 - poor baby’s so confused.

14:27 - except that he warned the bots so odds are they are safe. (I know we know they are, but he doesn’t)

16:08 - proper rivals know when their differences must be put aside.

17:05 - incredible aim.

18:36 - That was awesome. Points to Starscream, amazing trick and amazing execution.

18:54 - Some points taken away. They’ve got an unspoken truce going and until they both walk away, it’s still in play.

19:18 - That was beautiful.

20:05 - Damn Optimus, couldn’t even wait until you got home, huh?

20:11 - Nevermind- still do not understand their relationship though. + heavily animated Optimus.

20:18 - that’s the way a child explains how they one tip/tag at school

21:17 - Why would they use Breakdown as a reference for Optimus?? There are so many differences by physical structure alone.

And that was Operation: Breakdown.

Ignoring the fact that this episode would’ve gone very differently if Ratchet hadn’t dismissed Bee after he pointed out the tire tracks it’s a pretty good episode. Not a favourite, but still a good watch. Fowler really stepped up this episode, which was good. I liked the focus on Bulkhead, even when it came at the price of Miko.

I liked the way it portrayed Bulkhead and Breakdown’s relationship. Got thoroughly confused by Optimus and Bulkhead’s though.

Not much else to say.
