Buddy wouldn't attack unless provoked to an extreme level.

On the other hand...

If one of their grandbabies got hurt...

Set during the time Buddy was stuck in the Beast Wars universe.

The longer Buddy stayed with the Maximals, the more they noticed Buddy’s patience.

They had tons of it.

It was almost impossible for them to truly get angry.

Cheetor and Rattrap have tried, no luck.

It wasn’t until Waspinator and Silverbolt came back to the base injured and literally carrying their own parts.

After making sure Buddy wasn’t going to fall into the Cybertronian equivalent of ‘cardiac arrest’, Buddy demands to know who did this.

The Maximals never saw Buddy fly so fast after they said Megatron did it.

Optimus and Airazor follow behind Buddy, but they severely underestimate Buddy’s fast flying abilities.

They hid behind some rock as they saw a Buddy shaped hole in the roof of the Predacon’s base.

Just as they are planning a way to get in to rescue Buddy, Buddy themselves flies out through the hole with a thrashing Megatron in their grasp.

Buddy slammed the Predacon leader down outside the base and demanded to fight him.

This wasn’t a fair fight. Not even close.

Buddy was the obvious victor after tearing the leader into spare parts.

They weren’t too worried about it anymore, bots in this universe were easy to fix in parts.

But this was only a small glimpse of what power Buddy had in store.

Team that is slightly watching and cheering on Buddy

This team is for the ones who are secretly cheering on Buddy to win this fight. They are extremely surprised seeing how Buddy fights. They almost have the same energy as a spry young bot. which leads to other questions, they plan on asking later. For example: If this is how they fight when they are this old, how did they fight in the prime of their youth? They silently shudder seeing Buddy tear into the enemy.

All the Predacons are staring in horror at this beast tearing into their leader. They have enough common sense not to even think about confronting this beast. Many are wondering where this bot came from. They can’t be a Maximal… right? They are silently praying that they aren’t next on this apex predator’s hit list after they get Megatron’s parts into the CR chamber.

So I was rewatching Rise of the Beasts (again) and in my mind I kept thinking about that really good article that discussed the lack of female characters, especially bots in the live action movies. I spoke about this last week, but watching the movie again made me sad that the author of the article completely skipped over the importance of not just Elena but also the female bots (nightbird, airazor and arcee) themselves. I think that it’s very understandable that more could have been done with the female bots, but I also think that OP just did not understand the importance of having the two main bots voiced by black women and the main woman being a black human.

The article again, went on and on to discuss the lack of female bots in the live action shows and also went into detail discussing the misogyny that bay perpetrated in the early live action films in regards to the specific women he portrayed. They were very sexualized and mistreated, whereas there were absolutely no fembots to be seen.

When the author discussed ROTB, they completely brushed over both Elena and the important impact that Arcee and Nightbird had to at least, black people especially black women. Could more have been done with nightbird and arcee, yes—but they were still very much characters in their own right, especially arcee. Arcee was not just someone who did flips and fought, she was also good with intel and a scientist to an extent. On top of that, she was voiced by a black woman and that is not something that we’ve really ever had in live action. We had in TFP airachnid voiced by a black woman but everyone was misognystic toward her and hated her. Next we have Nightbird who was voiced by a black trans woman  (M.J Rodriguez) which is a huge, revolutionary and important step and the article just…did not mention that at all.

We even have Airazor, who was voiced by a Malaysian woman (Michelle Yeoh). Which again, is a huge step.

More importantly there is Elena Wallace, who completlely subverted the idea of what a human woman had to be in the live action films. She is Black, she is a scientist, she isn’t super and unhealthily skinny but she is still beautiful and integral to the plot. On top of that, she was allowed to exist without being a caricature of black women, which is most certainly something that the bay films would’ve done because of how poorly black culture was handled.

LOOK I’m not saying that ROTB was perfect with its female rep, especially its fembot rep. but I also think that if you are completely discrediting the cultural impact of having all the fembots voiced by woc, and a queer one at that and the main human female being a black woman that was treated with respect…then you’re just being super unfair.

Number 10 for the Salty Asks?

This ask game

I was definitely not a fan of the last season of Beast Wars, since they were essentially cramming two different arcs into the very last season.

You could argue that Transformers Prime did the exact same thing, but Season 3 still had an overarching plot of the Predacons while Season 2 had the overarching plot of the Iacon Hall of Records. Season 1 felt more of day to day building character with the Unicron prophecy coming out in the season finale. Season 3 for TFP did get shortened, which ultimately hurt the writing and the build up of the Predacons which ended up getting shunted aside. If TFP Season 3 had 26 episodes like Season 1 and 2, the Predacons would have stayed for longer. I can guarantee you that much.

But Season 3 of Beast Wars was doing way too much. There was the arc about those ancient aliens, which was talked about in previous seasons, but there was no real satisfying pay off with them. Not to mention they create a fusion of Tigatron and Airazor only to have them killed off in the next episode. Not to mention they also bring in the Covenant of Primus and start talking about prophecies immediately after those aliens are defeated. And the Covenant of Primus felt out of nowhere. Why didn't they just stick with the Disks? They were already well established within the lore of Beast Wars.

Not to mention the characters are such a downgrade. Rattrap and Rhinox don't get the same amount of screen time as they used to. I grew to hate Cheetor and his puberty stage. They bring back Dinobot as a clone. Don't even get me started on Silverbolt and Blackarachnia. We're gonna be here all day.

I really enjoyed seasons 1 and 2 of Beast Wars, but Season 3 was definitely doing way to much with two different arcs and it shows.

First of all: great movie, will watch again when it hits streaming

BEE FUCKING DIED FOR HALF THE MOVIE OR WAS AT LEAST FUNCTIONALLY DEAD

And then killed Nightbird who could fly in root mode and transformed into a car so is she like half a triple changer. Is Bee 2.5 for 2.5 on triple changers.

Nightbird was really cool though I liked her a lot

Airazor was very cool, rip Airazor

On the subject of her death. The rust/corruption was extremely fucking cool that has Potential even with Scourge dead

Scourge and Unicron in general greatly excited me. When was the last time Unicron was a planet eater, was he one in the Unicron Trilogy? Scourge was cool, v. intimidating. Unicron was also really well-designed and I really like the power-control stuff. Also off-brand Force choke

I don't want to call him Wheeljack he's a fine character but he's not Wheeljack he's Pablo. I have no other complaints

Arcee is a fucking badass she has been so good in the recent continuities she kicks ass and I love her

Mirage was fun, I liked him a lot character-wise. Him being able to do the actual mirage/hologram was really fun. The mass-shifty stuff with being a garbage truck or whatever is interesting. And then he becomes a mech suit for Noah and that has heavy fic potential. Also another temporary death.

I really don't have anything to say about the Maximals beyond Airazor

OPTIMUS PRIME ON THE OTHER HAND. God he was written really really well. He so strongly regrets leaving Cybertron (which makes me wonder what the fate of the war is if it's still going on are the remaining Bots holding their ground or are the Cons on the up) and cares so much for his home and Bee. And he has no reason to trust humans, not really, even if Bee had a good experience with one. He's really well-written and Peter Cullen is fantastic as ever. Also I think Optimus was mentioned as Primus' chosen or something

Noah's younger brother was really good, I liked him, I'm really glad he's going to be okay

Other minor humans. At the start of the movie I swear the guy who canceled Noah's interview had the last name Bishop. That is such a specific surname it has to be a TFP reference. Mid-credits scene, why is it GI Joe. Are they doing a GI Joe movie. My amica and I were like 'is it sector 7' but no it's other Hasbro property

Noah and Elena! I've seen Noah's actor in another movie so I'm not surprised he did a really good job. Noah was really well-written, he was accurately compared to Optimus at one point and it was good vibes. He cares about his family and also just has some good funny lines early on. Elena was also really good, I don't have specific character thoughts other than I'm glad she gets a happy ending.

The movie was really fun, I do recommend it, I can't wait for more people to see it for the fic concepts and theories it will spawn

Rise of the beasts rant!

Just got home from watching rise of the beasts and I love that movie so much.

The parallels to the netflix series were interesting (op‘s character, his dynamic with primal, the multiple skorponoks who looked a lot like their bayverse counterpart)

That whole warehouse scene just screamed tfa op sari bee interaction at the start of the show

Nightbirds design being an interesting interpretation of her g1 counterpart

The whole scourge/unicron paralels to g1 movie galvatron/unicron

My girl arcee

And there’s also that weird frenzy and rumble thing (they used the basic design from the bayverse movies and made it creepier)

Stratospheres design reminded me a lot of anode (idw comics) -probably her grandfather or something lol

Mirage was very interesting with all the mass shifting, the brief scene with his g1 altmode and the whole omni-former whatever thing going on that I only remember happening once in idw as well as the armour part that reminded me of last stand of the wreckers where verity had an armour

The whole bumblebee situation reminded me a lot of the final battle in tfp and we got to see primes axe again

And I almost cried at the airazor scene

And then there’s pablo… I don’t know if he sounds anything better in the inflight version but in German he is just terrible
