could u imagine if gabriel chose to create adrien instead of emilie and then he died via peacock disease and emilie lived. but then emilie STILL figured out some way to also die in very quick succession in a way that was somehow also adrien's fault

"ohh botw was so PEACEFUL everything in totk wants to kill you--" so you're telling me you don't remember the sheer terror you felt the first time a guardian stalker started hunting you? or when a skywatcher caught sight of you? the fucking billion turrets in hyrule castle that hated you? how you couldn't dillydally around the center of the map without catching the eye of at least three giant laser pottery spiders? it's all ohhh guardian theme song instant anxiety haha until the sequel comes out and you completely forget She exists?! for shame! for shame!!

You guys talk about The Terror so much that James Fitzjames showed up in my dream last night. Could my subconscious come up with the name “James Fitzjames?” Somehow, no. But he was there. I want to say playing with Calico Critters.

Control be like:
Start of the game: A gun? Okay. Should be useful against the Horrors.
Later: The Horrors are kicking my ass but I’ll get through this one way of another.
Ashtray Maze: I CAN’T BE FUCKING STOPPED!!!!! *SMASHES A MONSTER’S HEAD IN WITH A STEEL CHAIR!!!!!*

There's this moment at the end of "Go For Broke" where the rest of the men disperse to start putting up the tarps and Fitzjames and Franklin just look at each other and it really feels like what is being communicated between them is that Fitzjames is angry and disappointed because he's backed Franklin's decisions to the men and that decision did not have the results Franklin had promised. There are so many little moments in this first episode where various people look to Fitzjames for confirmation of stuff even though he is third in line in charge here. He's aware he has this social power that neither of his superiors do and he chooses to back Franklin and dismiss Crozier and it seems like his only reason for doing so is that Franklin's attitude more closely aligns with his than Crozier's. His antagonism of Crozier comes down to the way he talks-- his warnings of doom are "melodrama", his unwillingness to be cheerful is some kind of personal slight that causes Fitzjames to give that little "there's nothing worse than a man who has lost his joy" speech to Franklin about him.
And it comes down to this tension between civility and nature, the veneer of civilization scraped over their colonial purpose here. Franklin acts like he can will the path clear and the way safe just because he wants it to be so and calls that unfounded self-assurance god; Crozier knows this is dangerous nonsense, and yet Fitzjames backs Franklin because there is more social power in Franklin's way of communicating and he does not have the experience to know that the world as they jointly pretend it to be is not the world they are moving through. If Hickey is repeatedly naively surprised when things don't go his way, Fitzjames is disappointed that things don't go the way Franklin expects.

I watched The Terror and I won't lie. Calling your two vessels The Terror and [God of Darkness] sounded like a recipe for disaster on day one. They couldn't have called it The Joy and The Friendship?
