I found this fic when it was at chapter 3 I believe, and I literally was checking it every day until it was finished. The clinical way Tim handles his own deaths until he can’t anymore, the fact that he is an unreliable narrator and the way that is handled by the author, the plot and writing style- look, there’s a reason this fic is in like 40 different collections on AO3.

In a world without superheroes and instead magical powers and supernatural beings Batman still came to exist, if slightly different. Four boys and one girl were still adopted and taught how to protect the world from those that stalk the night, groups were still formed, lines still made in the sand, and the world still turned just the same.
When Dick returned to the manor acting different and calling his family together no one questioned it. It only becomes apparent that something had gone terribly wrong when it becomes far to late to fix it.

Not if he's the one that has to correct it, anyway. Of course, the universe pretty much seems to enjoy screwing him over every chance it gets. Why would this be any different?

There's a specific kind of silence when you walk into a room and people have just stopped talking about you. Side-long looks, a certain kind of tension in how people stare at you while trying to look like they're not staring, as if actually locking eyes will somehow transfer the entire content of their just-ended conversation telepathically.
Jason's particularly familiar with that silence; he gets it pretty equally from both the criminal element and his family. It's still the same mix of awkwardness and fear, though it spawns from different places. The Bats just don't like to admit that they still talk behind his back as much as they do, and remain wary about what his reaction might be if he catches them at it. Like he doesn't know. The lieutenants of Jason's organization, on the other hand, are just afraid that the Red Hood might hear something he's not supposed to and decide they've crossed a line.
Fair enough, really.

Jason turned the TV off. It was starting to distract him. It would be hard to track down Dick or find out what happened to him if he hadn’t been seen since his ‘death’. Someone had to know something. That was always the case when it came to anything. Someone knew something.
