Fight with grace 💪❤️
I have been reflecting a lot about what it means to truly be a graceful, strong, kind & assertive advocate. It means to live my life my way & not to take sh!t from anyone.
Like recently someone called me a b!tch but you know what I have since embraced the term b!tch to mean a lot more than a hollow, strong word used to undermine & insult me. I am not insulted because I took a vulgar & rude sound to flip it around to re-contextualise it so that I am a b!itch if I am:
strong in my beliefs
strong enough to fight for myself
being an advocate for others
not being affected by negativity
trying to sh!t in my life & using it as fuel to light my fire
making the most of my existence my way even if it means doing things that make others unhappy because they do not approve
maybe most importantly, fighting with grace however it suits me
but also realising if I do something that of audacity then I will need to deal with the consequences (good, bad, or neutral)

Autora de libros como Thinking in Pictures e Interpretar a los animales. Es una de las primeras personas diagnosticadas con Síndrome de #Asperger que compartió públicamente su experiencia personal. #Inventora de la máquina de dar abrazos, un dispositivo para calmar a personas que sufren de sobreestimulación y ansiedad ante el abrazo de otra persona, cosa común entre las personas con Asperger. Gran defensora del bienestar de los animales, sobre todo de los animales explotados por la industria ganadera. Ha reformado mataderos y ranchos a lo largo de EEUU en defensa de una vida y una muerte menos dolorosa. Debido al trastorno del espectro autista, considera que el pensamiento de una persona con esta condición es una especie de apeadero entre el pensamiento animal y el humano. Esto la ha llevado a realizar experimentación y a profundizar no solo en la etología sino también en la neuropsicología. A los 6 meses de edad, su madre percibió que rechazaba sus abrazos pero hasta su adultez no fue diagnosticada formalmente como parte del espectro autista. A los 16 años fue a pasar unos días a la granja de ganado de su tío. Allí se fijó en una máquina usada para tranquilizar al ganado cuando venía el veterinario a explorarlos: dos placas metálicas que comprimían a las reses por los lados. La presión suave las relajaba. Pensó en hacer algo semejante para ella: una máquina de dar abrazos, lo que le proporcionaría el estímulo táctil que tanto necesitaba, pero que no podía obtener porque no soportaba el contacto físico con las personas. Hoy hay clínicas para tratamiento de criaturas autistas que usan la máquina de Temple. Estudió psicología y se especializó en comportamiento animal. En la adolescencia, parte de la terapia pasaba por montar y cuidar a caballos. Pronto descubrió que éstos también tenían problemas emocionales, lo que la inspiró a dedicar su vida a la mejora del bienestar animal.
