do you have any thoughts about any of the characters being suicidal? i'm thinking specifically brennan being passively suicidal which gets her pulled from the field on multiple occasions because she genuinely just does not care if she ends up dead.

I HAVE A LOT OF THOUGHTS AND I'M GLAD YOU ASKED BC I'M ALWAYS SCARED OF BRINGING IT UP . obvious tw for suicidal ideation / suicide attempts under the cut

brennan being passively suicidal in her adult life, ESPECIALLY in the early seasons, makes so much sense. she doesn't exactly WANT to die but she doesn't have any urge to keep herself safe and alive either. angela is actually the one who gets her pulled from work-- nobody else seems to realize what's going on, but ange knows from seeing her at her worst before.

early in their friendship, brennan had a really bad episode around the anniversary of her parents leaving-- she was so depressed she couldn't leave her bed for days, which turned out to be a benefit, because if she were any more energized/motivated, she would have ended up seriously hurt. angela stayed with her the whole time (brennan refused to go to the hospital or anything of the like) and even years later, can tell in an instant when brennan starts to swing down like that again.

i think angela experiences passive suicidiality as well-- we see her experience episodes which are coded as depression in canon (any time she becomes disillusioned with her work and life in the series), and i think there's more than that. she doesn't even recognize it as SI, because its mostly thoughts of feeling useless/unimportant/just generally empty, and ideations of things like "disappearing" or "sleeping forever". her loved ones usually reel her back in when she starts to spiral, which for her looks like more frequent dissociation, less social energy, and personality changes (lack of her usual excitement/silliness/sass).

one more character i have Thoughts abt is booth-- he was canonically suicidal when he was young, and i hc he actually attempted twice. once when he was a teenager (16-17)-- he'd been living with his grandfather for years, but the trauma felt so fresh and he just... broke one day. pops made him get help after that, and even though he was embarrassed, it saved his life. he didn't try again until he got back from serbia, where ge killed radik-- the trauma of killing him in front of his kid was eating him alive until he couldn't live with it anymore. obviously he survived again, and even thoygh he still struggles with those thoughts sometimes, he has a vow to never attempt again, because he can't leave parker (and further on, christine and hank) fatherless.

Bones is never diagnosed on the show, even though she has significant problems with social interactions and displays repetitive or obsessive behaviors—the main characteristics of ASD. In an interview, Hart Hansen, the creator of the show, admitted that he based Bones on a friend with Asperger’s syndrome (which is now diagnosed as ASD). But, according to him, Fox never came out and said this because the broadcast network was hoping the show would appeal to a larger audience. Deschanel has also said that her “character almost has Asperger’s syndrome.” - I'm an Autistic Woman, and Bones Is the Only Character Like Me on TV

Comedy short: who broke the coffee pot?(Bones)

Paring: reader x jeffersonian staff

Summary: cam wants to know who broke the coffee pot.

A/n: bones requests are open!

Cam called a staff meeting today... No one would have ever predicted that it would be about a broken coffee pot. Not a corpse, not a piece of broken bone, but a broken pot.

They all stood around the broken coffee pot confused, in the coffee maker it's self was large beaker from the lab in place of the pot. All of us minus Bones, she was aggravated she was taken away from her work for this.

“So...” Cam said crossing her arms “Who broke it? I'm not mad, I just wanna know.” she said softly looking at everyone.

Everyone stayed silent as Seeley and Lance walked in confused. Lance walked up next to y/n looking at the broken glass. Before he could ask what happened y/n sighed when she saw everyone's silent panic and spoke up.

“...I did. I broke it.” y/n said trying to save who's ever ass broke it.

Cam shook her head and sighed “No. No you didn't, you don't even drink coffee. Dr. Hodgins?”

Jack looked insulted that she would even mention him, did he not relize how many beakers he's broken in the Lab? “Don't look at me. Look at Wendell”

The blond look bewildered and gave Jack a dirty look before turning to Cam. “What?! I didn't break it.”

Jack hummed and looked at Cam like he cracked the case “Huh, that's weird. How'd you even know it was broken?”

Wendell started to get annoyed, he rubbed his fave then pointed to the broken glass “Because it's sitting right in front of us and it's broken.”

Jack shrugged “Suspicious.”

“No, it's not!” Wendell said shaking his head. Cam, who just wanted an answer sighed right back and looked towards Seeley who interjected.

“If it matters, probably not, but Lance was the last one to use it.” y/n and Lance both looked at him shocked.

“Liar! I don't even work here!” Lance said stepping away from the group.

“Oh really? Then what were you doing by the coffee cart last night?” Seeley asked in joking matter, he wasn't really trying to blame him.

“Because Brennan asked me to get her a cup of coffee while I got y/n her tea. They were both working late last Everyone knows that, Booth” Lance quickly said and his story check out.

Angela sighed and put her hands up “Okay let's not fight. I broke it. Let me pay for it, Cam”

Cam stoped her and held up the lose handle “No! Who broke it!?”

Everyone stayed quiet, they all shared glances just waiting for someone to crack. Jack's eyes fell on Bones who was now checking her watch.

Jack glanced at Cam “Cam Brennan's been awfully quiet.”

Bones gasped, shocked anyone would accuse her of such accusations “really Dr. Hodgins?!”

Everyone starts arguing after that, the squints and the scientists that is. Lance and Seeley stared, still confused on what just happened. Cam just snickered and walked over to the boys. “I broke it by accident. It burned my hand so I punched it.”

Seeley and Lance started chuckling when they saw y/n throw a hand full of coffee stirrers at Wendell and Jack.

Seeley chuckled. “I predict 10 minutes from now they'll be at each other's throats with warpaint on their faces and a skull on a stick.”

*Later at the Bureau*

“crap!” James sighed as the sound of glass shattering filled his ears, he quickly looked around for witness hoping no one saw him break the coffee pot in the break room.

Caroline sighed and pulled out her phone from a distance, James didn't see her dialing Cam's number. “Cam, tell me how you handled the coffee pot situation at the jeffersonian”

She’s against pets in general but if she had to pick one she’d choose a monkey

But after researching it and realizing she doesn’t have the adequate amount of time to care for one she lets booth get a dog

Has to be one that’s known for its intelligence tho

Booth

A dog man through and through

Specifically a high energy breed he can take for runs

Also likes to play fetch with it

Teaches it tricks

Constantly gets lectures from Brennen every time he says they have the smartest dog

Wants to let it lay in the bed but Brennen says no

He sneaks the dog up after she goes to sleep sometimes

Wendell

I bet you’re thinking dog huh?

Yeah you’re right

He has a American pitbull terrier he adores

Buys her sweaters for the winter

Takes her out to those dog friendly restaurants to play with Booth’s dog while they hang out

Either a Siamese or a hairless cat

Spoils it with toys and treats, but makes sure it stays at a healthy weight

When no one is around she speaks to it in a baby voice

A cat he found at his local shelter

He doesn’t know what kind of cat it is

Has to take allergy pills because he developed an allergy after he already was attached

A hermit crab he keeps in his office

Gets an artist friend to paint new shells based on sci fi movies he likes

Before he picked a name he was calling it buddy, which just kinda stuck

Angela

Likes many animals, but not keeping them

Only got one after Michael-Vincent kept begging

Ended up getting a hedge hog

It curls up in her lap while she paints or draws

Has the hedgehog with Angela obviously

He lets sit on his shoulder when relaxing

Built it a fucking MASSIVE enclosure in their house

This lil thing has so much to play with it’s insane

After a year or two of owning the hedgehog, he convinces Angela to get a tortoise

Who he also spoils

Zack

He bought a beta fish one day bc he thought a pet would make him less lonely but he was scared of all the other species at the pet store

He named it Archimedes

Originally just had it in a glass bowl

Bought it a proper tank after Hodgins explained how bad that is

Hodgins also went with him to pick out things it could hide in

Honestly I’m not really sure

Maybe a hamster when she was young

But never got another pet after it died bc she was so sad

Says hi to it every time she stops by his office

He has two ferrets and and a set of Guinea pigs

should i be sleeping? yes i have to leave for work in exactly 8 hours (i said when i started this . as im finishing it we are looking at 7 hrs 15 min lol) . but i Have to Talk ! also just letting you know you almost made me CRY with this ask you guys are all genuinely so sweet and kind to me i cannot believe it 💗💐☀ i love you all :-((

OKAY gonna put this under a cut so anyone who doesn't wanna see ed related content can SCROLL AWAY ! gonna avoid being triggering but . protect ur peace and all that <3 also i wanna put out there that this is mostly based on my own experiences with seven years of various eating disorders so if you are reading this and it doesn't fit your idea or perception of ed's that may be why !

ok so the three main characters i have ed-related headcanons for are brennan, angela, and cam (before anyone comments that it's only the women . there is no correlation i promise . i am projecting and these are my Projection Characters .)

i hc brennan as having arfid and orthorexia-- arfid developed for her from a combination of sensory issues with food as well as food-related anxiety from foster care (not always having enough to eat, rarely having any choice in what she ate, food-related punishments within abusive homes). being avoidant is an easy way to ignore the anxiety and stress that comes along with eating, between her sensory issues and the fact that she wasn't given an opportunity to develop much of a healthy relationship with food. orthorexia also developed as a control mechanism, but later in life (around college age). it was the first time since her parents left that she had control over her life, and that included food-- she became very obsessive about what she was putting in her body, because it gave her some of that sense of control back. her obsession with being "healthy" allowed her to feel like she was the one in charge of her body for the first time since she was fifteen.

in regards to recovery, she really didn't realize she had a problem for ages. since she wasn't medically unstable or engaging in super obvious behaviours, she didn't see herself as suffering from an eating disorder at all. it wasn't until sweets pointed out her disordered eating habits that she realized there was anything wrong with what she was doing-- she brought it up to booth, who agreed, which culminated in a fairly major argument as she didn't see anything she was doing as "bad" or disordered, just "healthy" and "in control". after a Real Conversation though, she eventually accepted that she might have some sort of problem and started looking into it more. she is definitely still in recovery, as it is a very slow process after so many years of disordered eating, but she makes an effort to engage in things that scare the disordered part of her brain. her favourite memory in regards to this was getting *real* ice cream for the first time in god knows how long when her and angela were out with the kids <33

my headcanons in regard to angela's ed are very connected to my headcanon that she has bipolar disorder-- many of us with bipolar really struggle with disordered eating and i specifically hc angela as having bulimia. it started when she was a teenager and first starting to experience bipolar episodes-- when manic or depressed, it's incredibly easy to fall into b/p cycles. when she was manic, it was like a form of thrill seeking, and she didn't have the capacity to care for the destruction it was causing, and when depressed, it felt like she was putting her awful feelings into something physical. it was hard to express her emotions through words, so she used her body instead.

i think she entered recovery for the first time in her late teens (around 17) when her mental health hit like . rock bottom and her dad decided that they needed to do something about it. she got the treatment she needed, and also took time away from school to tour with her dad-- exploring the country and having so much time to just sit with her thoughts (especially now that they were a little easier to manage with medication) is what made her start doing art really seriously-- if she couldn't express her hurt with her body anymore, she was going to do it on a page, and she created some of her most beautiful paintings during that time that she is still very proud of to this day. she still has slip ups to this day when she is struggling with her episodes, but with hodgins and brennan she is much more capable of talking through it before it gets to a dangerous point of relapse.

as for cam's ed, i feel this is the one i've talked about the most before bc she is my comfort character in this aspect? i headcanon her to have anorexia, specifically restrictive subtype. for her it's a control and perfectionism thing, as well as a "growing up masking autism" thing. cam has a very perfectionist and obsessive personality type, and it's mostly directed toward herself. everything she does needs to be perfect to be enough, and she needs to feel in control at all times. food is one of the easiest ways to do this-- if she can control her body and the food she consumes, obsess over numbers and physical changes and symptoms, it makes her feel a little more at ease in her life because she feels she has *something* under her control. as for the masking thing, she often masked with hyperfemininity growing up-- she was praised frequently for being a "good girl", and part of keeping up that image was looking the "right" way (aka, thin). if she could keep up this image, people wouldn't notice the things that made her odd or how unnatural everything felt to her. it's another control thing, but with another layer to it.

cam took a *long* time to start real recovery. she had phases where it got less severe, even some to the point where she barely thought about it, but restriction and denial was always still a part of her mentality and routine. it wasn't until arastoo came along that she felt comfortable enough to explain her pain and her thoughts to another person-- she was always too scared to unload on anyone else, so she kept it a secret essentially her entire life. arastoo was the first person she trusted to listen without judgement, and he encouraged her to talk to her other friends and loved ones about it (all of whom were incredibly understanding and supportive). in a similar sense to brennan, recovery is really difficult for her, having struggled for so incredibly long and having her disorder be a part of her daily routine for the majority of her life. however, she tries incredibly hard-- arastoo is teaching her how to cook (she never learned) and she's learning to find the joy in food through that, and allowing herself to relax around it a little more <333

Headcannon: Brennan originally rationalized the decision to publish her books for the purpose of bringing forensic anthropology more into the public eye.

She knew she was gonna get some backlash from the academic community because it’s fiction. Of course.

But she fell for forensic anthropology through a movie she watched when she was younger, it makes sense that she’d like putting it out there in some way.

The way when that journalist comes in and she’s continues claiming, “no, the science, what about the science?”

Writing the books, a definite love letter to a guy she barely knew at the time but made a ridiculously strong impression.

But publishing them? A love letter to her field.

So you work at the Jeffersonian, I just feel Seeley is just attracted to badass smart girls, and that's what you are.

He can't help but love your nerdyness and you never sees to amaze him.

So you guys would be through Cam, she was your best friend and she thought you two would hit it off. That was true but what she didn't realize the age gap.

It's not bad and there's no reason to go into too much detail, but I feel like Seeley would indeed go for you the second he got the chance but I think he'd be insecure about his age.

We know he doesn't really talk about his feelings, but the thoughts about being too old would cross his mind. He's probably only like five years old so it's not a big deal, but when he sees you laughing with Lance he can't help but feel you deserve someone your age.

You got that thought out of his head quickly and reassured you wanted him and only him.

Of course it's now a joke to you two, now you can joke about it and your Friends do to.

“Hodgins, you call it daddy issues, I call it taking care of the elderly” you joked. Seeley spit his beer out not prepared for your response.

Now this would be a friends to lovers, at first he was your best friend and your shoulder to cry on, but it didn't take long for you to fall head over heals for him.

You tried to ignore it and didn't want to really ruin your friendship, but you quickly found out he felt exactly the same.

He has no problem opening up to you, in fact if he wasn't to talk about the war or maybe a rough case he'd go to you. Your his 'Shrink' and it annoys Lance like crazy.

You wear his dog tags for luck, one time when he was off in another state for a case you wore them because you missed him. The it kinda turned into a good luck charm.

It made his heart swell with love when he found out, you didn't really think he'd be mad but you didn't know what his response would be.

“they look better on you anyways”

Being with and FBI/army man means you have a designated bodyguard, you never felt so safe than you do when your with him.

One of your first dates was a hockey game, that peaked your interest and you asked him to teach you how to play.

He's always there to catch you when your about to fall on the ice, and if he can't get you in time he'll fall too so you don't get embarrassed.

After awhile you guy just ended up sword fighting with the hockey sticks, he also kept the Puck you guys played with and he keeps it in his office.

Speaking of office, you can go in his when ever you want cuz he made a key for you.

If your cold you'll steal his goofy socks or his jackets, he had theses black socks with cute little aliens on them that he now only sees if your wearing them.

He gives the best bear hugs, you just feel so safe and warm in his muscular arms.

You love just being in his arms, there's no feeling better than that.

His arms or hands will he around your waist any chance he gets, he loves your curves and your body... He just wants to hold you all the time.

There's a lot of neck and forehead kisses being handed out by this man. He loves wrapping his arms around you from behind and just trail soft kisses down your neck.

This man need physical contact a lot too. He's a big cuddler and just needs you in his arms, he's really just a big ol' teddy bear.

You joke about that, he can be so mean looking and tough but he's really just a big teddy bear.

“I'm not a teddy bear” he said trying to not to smile. You shook your head and held him tighter. “Yes you are, my big teddy bear”

He loves it when you curl up on his lap when he's working, he can't get enough of you running your fingers run through his hair.

He's a rough kisser, he's way taller than you so usually he hold your chin between his fingers and lift for head up to kiss you.

He also loves forehead kisses, it's just such a soft and gentle gesture he loving doing. But I think he likes it when you do it more.

He likes laying his head in your lap while your on the couch, he finds it soothing when you run your fingers though his hair too.

He loves cuddles, if your in bed or on the couch he needs to be holding you. He loves it when he's laying in bed and your lying on top of his chest.

He also thinks it's cute when you just kidda space out and play with his tie while your in his lab waring for him to get his work done.

Seeley refuses to sleep unless you have fallen asleep first, he just needs to know your okay before he can have a good night sleep.

Most of the time he'll wake in the middle of the night and need to hear you breathe, or just make sure you’re safe beside him and unharmed.

your entire relationship is based on natural and domestic intimacy, you guys don't care where you are if you want to touch or kiss you will.

So like, I said he's super over protective, so that includes his driving habits changed drastically, he once drived like a maniac, but the first time he had you in the car he drove safer than he did when he took his divers test.

But when you guys got comfortable with each other his old habits came back.

He either drives like a maniac or a grandpa. There’s no in between.

“Jesus Christ, Seeley, we Are Not on a race track, why Are You Going so Fast?!!?!?”

You guys don't really fight, the only thing you fight about is when one of you is being reckless in your line of work. You hate how Seeley thinks he's Bulletproof and don't really care about the danger he's running into.

“You don't always need to be a fucking hero, Seeley.”

“I know what I'm doing, can you just trust me on that?"

More shameless original characters b/c I have nothing better to do.

In season 11 of Bones, Hodgins is paralyzed & becomes a jerk (misplaced anger), but still, a cynical jerk. I want him to get an intern (kinda like Brennan’s interns) & slowly grow more comfortable with his wheelchair.

The intern literally pops out from a corner where she was organizing the case files & waves like the socially inept intern she is.

Hodgins is like “who tf are u & get out of my lab”

She said “Dr. Saroyan said I’m ur new intern & u have the coolest machines so ✨no✨”

Hodgins goes to complain when Cam says “no, she’s qualified & I promised that u would not be overdoing it”

Hodgins tried his overly cynical rude words to make her leave on her own, but jokes on him. Her sense of humor was dark, if not more so.

He, then, tried to gross her out with his bugs, but she just took it in stride (she doesn’t acc like bugs, but she wasn’t gonna pass up the opportunity to be a master of telling time of death).

Once, he figured out that he wasn’t gonna get rid of her—he slowly let her do more things like swabbing for particulates when he got too tired to wheel himself to the bone room.

He once let her use the mass spectrometer & was impressed that she could rattle off the uses for the different chemicals (she likes reading labels off everything)

It wasn’t until the two of them did a rather messy experiment when Hodgins gave a laugh for the first time—Angela nearly cried & hugged the two on the spot (if they weren’t covered in soot & god knows what)

Anyways, I want Hodgins to have an intern too. I want someone who’ll geek out about bugs and forensic chemistry as much as Brennan does with her interns!!!
