Explore Busan - Korea's Beautiful Coastal City!
The Busan Cooperative Fish Market
The beautiful blue waters of Korea's largest portside city, Busan! At the Busan Cooperative Fish Market, located near the Jagalchi Market, the day begins at early dawn as merchants gather for the fish auction. Here, we were able to experience a very different scene from your typical city. The morning was gorgeously bright in Busan.
Gwangbok-dong & The PIFF Plaza
The coastal city of Busan is now growing internationally. The very first place we visited was the crowded Gwangbok-dong and the PIFF Plaza. There were many movie posters and handprints of popular stars at the PIFF Plaza. If you think about movies, you think Busan. And if you think about Busan, you think movies. When I visited the PIFF Plaza, there were hand-shaped prints everywhere.
That's right. Every fall, Busan opens an international film festival with attendances by all the top stars, both national and international, making it a fun night of entertainment. This film festival continuously grows year after year to present the largest venue for moviegoers. Every street that stretched out from the plaza was filled with places to eat.
I'd also like an order of Odari please. Like this, fried cuttlefish is prepared on the spot, and all the shops here offer deliciously prepared food that will make your taste buds tingle. Wow. This looks great. Do you see this? First of all, I'd like to say that I'm sorry, but I'm going to dive in and have a bite. Ah! delicious. You can all come visit the PIFF Plaza to taste the amazingly chewy Odari. But Busan is still another world for most. If you are worried about getting around in Busan, the Busan subway system connects you to all the popular tourist attractions including the PIFF Plaza.
Haeundae Beach
This is the first place that comes to mind for most when you mention Busan. Escape from the sweltering heat of the summer and take a visit to see the refreshing blue ocean waters! This is Haeundae Beach. The Haeundae Beach is Busan's most popular summer spot, and it seems like waves of vacationers have already started showing up. The ocean waters blow away the summer heat and the smiles on the faces of summer vacationer seem exceptionally brighter than ever while playing in the refreshingly cool waters. This is also true for foreign tourists as well.
Leisure Experiences
Let's go~!! Wouldn't you like to experience what it feels like to take a ride on a motorboat and speed your way around Haeundae's ocean waters? Not only that, but you can also cut through the cool ocean winds on Haeundae's oceans while surfing, Or take a cruise on a luxury yacht tour, along with other various unique leisure experiences that are prepared for you.
Taejongdae
Among all the venues that are available here, I chose to take a ride on the ferry to take a closer look at the jade colored waters of the ocean while touring the Taejongdae regions.
Here, the vast ocean waters meet the beautiful cliffs of Taejongdae, Where the Yeongdo Lighthouse now stands tall, painting a magnificent picture.

BTS Hometowns
Rm - Ilsan
Tumblr media
RM was born in Ilsan, the home of the largest artificial lake in Asia, Lake Park. Lake Park features beautiful wildflowers and plants, as well as a musical fountain, and it has been used as the setting for a number of Korean shows. Lake Park hosts the Goyang Korea Flower Show, so book your trip in the spring to see it in full bloom.
Tumblr media
If parks aren’t your thing, no worries. Ilsan is home to an impressive commercial district with hundreds of places to shop and dine at. You’ll also find the production studios for MBC and SBS here.
Jin - Gwacheon
Tumblr media
Jin’s hometown is close to Seoul, in the Seoul National Capital Area. It is home to Seoul Grand Park Zoo, the first zoo in the Korean peninsula. It was founded in 1909 and is still a popular tourist destination today.
Tumblr media
Once you’ve visited the exotic animals at Seoul Grand Park Zoo and explored all of Seoul Grand Park’s hiking trails, why not stop by Seoul Land? This amusement park has approximately 40 rides, movie theatres, and hosts festivals throughout the year.
Tumblr media
Gwacheon also has something for intellectuals. Here you’ll find the National Museum of Contemporary Art and Gwacheon National Science Museum.
Suga and V - Daegu
Tumblr media
The birthplace of Suga and V is the fourth-largest city in South Korea, after Seoul, Busan, and Incheon, and it has plenty of things to entertain you. In addition to beautiful parks and mountains, you can also go back in time while exploring preserved villages like Otgol Village and Inheung Village.
Tumblr media
There is also plenty of shopping, museums, theatres, sports events, and festivals to check out throughout the year.
J - Hope - Gwangju
Tumblr media
J-Hope’s birthplace is located in the heart of the agricultural Jeolla region, and it’s famous for its diverse cuisine. If you visit, be sure to book a table at Cheongwon Momil. This restaurant has been a staple of Gwangju’s cuisine scene the 1960s.
Tumblr media
You can also visit the Gwangju Asia Culture Center in downtown Gwangju, which celebrates the city’s art, culture, and history.
Jimin and Jungkook - Busan
Tumblr media
If you want to get a feel for the place that raised Jimin and Jungkook, you’ll need to travel to Busan, the second-most populous city in South Korea. This seaside town is an ocean lover’s dream and the perfect getaway.
Tumblr media
Want to relax? Visit Hur Shim Chung Spa, one of the oldest spas in Korea. Want to eat? Fill your belly with seafood from Busan’s famous Jagalchi Fish Market.
Tumblr media
Don’t forget to take some photos at the colorful Gamcheon Culture Village. You can also stop by the cliffside Taejongdae Resort Park, the idyllic Gwangalli Beach, and temples such as Haedong Yonggungsa.

Day 19, Busan 30th Sept
This was the bus stop near my hotel which ended up being in a fairly central location with plenty of bus routes. The buses come whizzing through so you have to be watching for your number.
Tumblr media
Today was a pretty chilled day. I had intended on walking along the Hynyeoul mural walk around the coastline but after getting there and walking down all the steps to the start I found that it was closed. There was a nice cafe close by so it wasn’t all a waste. Korea has the nicest cafes.
Tumblr media
View from the cafe looking over to the point where I caught the gondola from the other day.
Tumblr media
Another bus got me to my next stop which was the Taejongdae Recreation Area. Even though everyone seems to live in massive high rises they have some lovely recreational areas very close by and make good use of them. You would have no idea you were only about 10 mins from the centre. The drive to the park was very scenic as it was along the water.
Tumblr media
They have what they call Danub trains that take you around the 5k track with places you can get off and discover further. It saves you walking up quite a few steep hills. There were a number of people walking the track, though. I opted for the train as it was a pretty hot today.
Tumblr media
The first stop was the observatory which sits on a cliff face.
Tumblr media
The observatory. From here I walked to the next point of interest which was to a lighthouse.
Tumblr media
From the track there were steps that lead down to the lighthouse. Always steps everywhere. I must admit they are becoming easier the more I do.
Tumblr media
The lighthouse. This is a busy shipping area. Busan has the biggest container port in Korea and is the 6th biggest in the world.
Tumblr media
These busts were of accomplished sea captains from Korea’s past.
Tumblr media
It was pleasant strolling through the greenery. A bit of city and bush is always nice.
Tumblr media
A temple was down one of the tracks tucked away.
Tumblr media
Inside the temple.
Tumblr media
These are burial sites near the temple.
Tumblr media
I thought I caught the same bus number from the park that took me there so I don’t know whether I missed my stop or what but I quickly realised I wasn’t going where I had planned. I don’t have wifi on my phone but somehow you can always see the blue dot moving on Google Maps so I knew where I was. I got to go over this great bridge as a consequence. Eventually I would get back on track and soon realised the bus stops had joined the 138 route which I knew went to Magnate, the cafe, and then my hotel. I got off and waited 5 mins for a 138 bus.
Tumblr media
Now this person might seem to be an ordinary guy but he was the highlight of my day. I found myself back at Jimin’s Father’s cafe due to the bus route. I was sitting minding my own business when I noticed this guy who was wiping down a few tables. I had seen photos of Jimin’s father and I knew he came to the cafe, at times. Anyway, I thought to myself it had to be him so I was on my phone and took some photos. This one is zoomed in. A bit later he came and sat on the lounge next to me only separated by a pot plant. No one was near me. He had his mask off then so when I left I spoke to him. He got up and shock my hand but I can’t remember what I said and I don’t think he can speak much English. He just said thank you for coming. It was very quick and I got flustered. A bit of a thrill, though.
Tumblr media
Next stop back to my hotel. The area around the hotel is full of restaurants and at night little stalls fill in the gaps so there is always something going on and people around. This row of cooking wagons are pulled into place each night and they are directly behind the huge Lotte Department store which seems to only sell high end designer items.
Tumblr media
This is the street my hotel was on which you can see in the distance, the Arban Hotel. People are out late at night but don’t start very early in the morning.

Exactly a year ago, my goal which seemed nothing more than a wish or a pipe dream became my reality. April 7, 2019, after more than a decade of fangirling, I was finally on a flight to Seoul. I will never forget the day I landed in Korea and stepped out of the airport - it felt liberating. You know that feeling when you desire somethin’ deeply in your heart, and then all those rational voices in your head tell you many reasons it’s not going to happen, but then it did - all those steps, processes, and frustrations melted away. In that singular moment, I was seeing and feeling my dream come to life.
South Korea captivated me! I love the balance of ancient and hyper modern - from the tranquil mountains, temples and tree-lined roads to skyscrapers, bright lights and whimsical architecture. It is a country of beautiful contradictions. Seoul capital area was cutting edge, futuristic, and squeaky clean while Busan and Gapyeong swelled with nature’s marvels. My existence seemed tiny as an envelope of calm waves surrounded me in Songdo, Taejongdae and Oryukdo. I saw picturesque landscapes and could sit there for hours admiring everything and still could never get enough of it. The travel aspect was made even more enjoyable because I was with my best buddies who basically laughed at my failed attempt to play with Spring fashion trends. They were bundled up in the chilly mornings and I was there looking like a complete idiot, shivering from the brisk air (served me right for sacrificing comfort over style). My favorite bits are not the famous landmarks though, not the visual elements, but the small and surprising moments that happened along the way. South Korea definitely bestowed me awe-inspiring experiences and a whole heap of treasured memories (&& a kick-ass idol encounter to top it all).
2019 was fulfilling and I thank God for the amazing opportunities I’ve had in my life. Everyday feels like “living the dream” and I don’t say this out of blind optimism. I claim it because it’s a constant reminder of how blessed I am.
P.S. HAPPY 8th ANNIVERSARY EXO (4.8.2012)
