#sylvie deserved a better development this season

It still irritates the hell out of me how well Sylvie seems to have accepted Loki's absence. I mean, come on, Loki SACRIFICED himself so that in the end she could come back and live her happy life the way she wanted. But in this scene she seems to be talking about the fucking wind, they ruined her so much in this second season.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While Mobius seems SAD AS HELL. ALONE in a new life that he still doesn't know how to deal with and that he didn't ask for, without the presence of the person he liked most. He looks so devastated, like someone came and destroyed his favorite jetski, when in fact the only thing destroyed was his and Loki's chance to ride that damn jetski TOGETHER.

You know what i consider the saddest part about the finale the people loki sacrificed himself for weren't even his friends maybe mobius had his moments but sylvie? Absolutely not
And it's just horrible Loki deserved way better than this conclusion and this series as a whole can't believe how many posts here calling this the best character development for loki and calling him the god of stories do the writers even understand the title or just think the name is cool?
literally. i know i previously called them his "loved ones" but that post was largeley about how i only like this ending in *theory.* i would have enjoyed this ending if they did his character decently, leading up to it.
it is DEFINITELY a stretch to say it's the best character development in the mcu (or in "cinema" period, as i saw one post say). that award goes to miss romanov, please and thank you. everything in the show is incredibly rushed.
if you watch season 1 episode 1 back to back with thor 1 and avengers 1, you'll see EXACTLY what i mean. rounding down his rough edges because they thought his characterization was a problem, and trying to force him into a role that he doesn't fit into by having shallow echoes of his character and hoping people don't notice. he lies poorly one time in the first season, "backstabbing" mobius (even though it wasn't really backstabbing), etc

Okay I finally watched the episode and I have several feelings so here we go...
If you haven't watched the show, stop reading. (Though I hope you have blocked the spoilers tag, if not it's your own fault..don't come at me)
Tumblr media
Am I dying every second thinking about him being alone there for eternity? Obviously 😭
But am i stupid or delusional enough to think he won't make a comeback in the next Avengers movie? No.
I don't think those people can fight kang without loki, they would at some point need his help because he's literally the most powerful god out there now.
Coming back to the episode there's not much I cared about, I probably wouldn't have blinked if ob, b15 or Casey would have died..didn't care about them at all if I was being honest and it's not the character's fault.
As much I hated the ship (because god forbid two male characters are friends in any show these days because they have to be lovers otherwise it's homophobia.. remember when bromance existed? Good times)
Mobius had a good character development that began in season 5 and continued this season unlike Sylvie who started as such a badly written selfish character that the only way they could have fixed it this season was to completely sideline her, which thankfully they did. The smirk and smile at the end even knowing that she may never get to see Loki again? (Yeah just die already).
Hopefully I'll never have to see her again.
Coming back to Loki (my precious baby love) i know his arc ended on a bittersweet note (that smile at the end just warmed my heart like never before) and it's more bitter for me than sweet because I can't handle the thought of him being so lonely because this is not what he wanted or deserved but then I think about Loki who died via strangulation and I'm like fuck everything, this is definitely much better than that ending.
Personally I think with time he's going to grow and learn to control this new power (or he could just clone himself and use him in a way? Idk Marvel can do anything) but I can feel it in my bones that this is not the end of him (unless ofcourse Tom is done with him and won't return for future projects)
That being said, Loki is alive and sure he is alone at the moment but he's a hero now, he has more than redeemed himself and he can finally forgive himself for everything that he didn't do right, perhaps this is what he needed to find that sense of purpose he has been looking for all his life. Hopefully he'd see himself as the god that he always was.
A man that was always ridiculed for his selfishness and narcissism chose to save the multiverse by sacrificing his freedom, by giving up his own free will. He chose everything he didn't want, a throne and what seemed like eternal solitude (but hopefully not)..a man of actions indeed. His arc reminds me of Tony in a way and that's beautiful.
Wherever you go, it's just death, destruction, the literal ends of worlds!
Uhhhhhuh? Look what my boy just did for the whole fucking multiverse.
I'm just trying to see the silver lining here that he's alive and he's the moment..he's everything, he literally became the most powerful being to ever exist in mcu and that gives me hope for him…he'd come back. Kang's arc started with him and they'd need him when the time comes. If not I got my fanfiction powers 🤣 (He deserves to find the sort of love that would stay by his side even if he's all that person would ever get)
Thank God they changed the writers this season and fixed somewhat of the mess they had made of this majestic, ethereal god last time.
Overall yeah my heart is breaking for him but look at him..he's the moment, he's the king of the multiverse, he's everything.

Loki S2E1 Review: A Triumphant Return? Or Just More Smoke and Mirrors?
A review by Lena, because I promised.
**SPOILERS FOR THE EPISODE BELOW THE CUT!** **READ AFTER WATCHING THE EPISODE OR AT YOUR PERIL!**
Tumblr media
Everyone knows my opinion on Season 1 of Loki, and how I find it an insult to character who went through over a decade of progress, only to be featured as the whipping boy in the show that bears his name, while a cipher of a Sue takes the spotlight in all of her brashness to such an extent that I kept wishing she’d be stuck in a goddamn elevator.
Lol, dreams do come true (kinda).
My rolling internal conflicts with the show made it a very difficult decision for me to even choose to give Season 2 a chance. Do I suck it up and try to see what most viewers seem to with a repeat watch of S1? Or do I stand by my (admittedly, annoyingly negative and isolating) opinions and just wait for the onslaught of delicious gif-fitry of Hiddleston’s ass the SAS Sisterhood would soon bring forth?
The only thing tipping the scales was the promise in the early release reviews that Sylvie would be scaled back, if not in screentime, at least in level of abusiveness and misery that we’re supposed to identify with. So, onward I went.
THE STORY I was expecting S2’s overall plot to be “ The Cunt Hunt for Sylvie” from the get go, but surprised to see how little they chose to use her in the first episode.
So almost immediately after Sylvie was a giant butt and risked the entirety of creation itself for the sake of personal revenge, Loki starts Apparating zapping across time and space seemingly randomly. Kang the Wifebeater Conqueror is taking over and has a giant Mount Rushmore monument in the middle of the TVA to remind everyone that it really doesn’t matter how terrible of as person you are, Disney will continue to hire you if they’ve already hired you enough times.
We find Loki running from the TVA and Mobius, proving once again that his hair alone deserves an Emmy, before yeeting himself off a balcony and casually watching as an innocent hovertruck driver falls to her death at the 4:08 timestamp.
We’re off to a banger start?
In a scene with more ridiculous accents than a Long Islander remake of Braveheart, B-15 and Mobius try to convince Professor McGonagall’s Nazi Sister that the new timelines shouldn’t be closed, as now there are people living in those timelines, and closing the loop would essentially be genocide. B-15 is pretty great. I forget about them.
The scene with OB is the best in the episode, and it does a good job at being funny and expository without getting difficult to follow. My eyes were also thankful for the brief change in the color filters to something with more contrast and light.
**HAIRWHIPHAIRWHIPHAIRWHIPHAIRWHIP** Ten points to Gryffindor.
I had to go back and re-watch the scenes leading up to the episode’s climax because I didn’t catch what they were doing at first. I hope they don’t make this a pattern again. We need less complication, more character development.
2.75 out of 5 Sexy Leather Holsters for being engaging and Sylvie-minimal, but hard to follow in parts, and while I smelled it coming a mile away, I’m not going to be at all impressed by the “Where in the World is Sylvie Sandiego?” thing.
Tumblr media
THE CHARACTERS/ACTING It’s a little off-putting to watch the characters themselves through some inconsistent writing, but the acting shines through regardless, which I expected from Frame 1.
At times I swear Mobius is autistic or ADHD-coded, at least somewhat, in the way he stops what he’s doing to express his special interests whenever they’re brought up. I’m sure he isn’t supposed to be, but as someone who has two sisters with autism, I still get some neurodivergent vibes off of Mobius, but that’s more of a personal note.
Tom and Owen still have infinitely better chemistry than Tom and Sophia. The banter between them is pretty fun, although in a few spots it gets kind of Mac-and-Dennis-y from Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and the talking over one another once in a while goes on for a second or two too long.
Rando girl in the elevator is the champion of the episode.
Ke Huy Quan is going to be a fan favorite on the level of Wandavision’s Randall Park (who we NEVER got our show about, btw). His Q-like character (Ourboros, but called OB) is always the highlight of his featured scenes, and a lot of it is just because Ke Huy Quan just exudes excitement and enthusiasm the whole time. I want to hug him. I hope this wasn’t his one episode and that he’s a recurring character. I just want to see his Pinchers of Peril save the day again.
Tumblr media
3.75 out of 5 Sexy Leather Holsters for wonderful acting and a memorable new character, but I had to take a few points off for those stupid accents in the board room scene and not really doing much otherwise with Fascism Braveheart.
Tumblr media
THE PRODUCTION My theory is that Loki is the most successful of the MCU shows for two reasons: 1- Tom Hiddleston’s incredible appeal as the title character, and 2- the production values are both higher and more cinematic overall than many of the other MCU shows, most of which take place on Present Day Earth and try to rely more on special effects and savvy camerawork than environment to wow the audience (Wandavision aside). Undeniably, Loki resembles a film more than any of them, and therefore, it easier to appeal to a broader audience…
…but is it?
S1 of Loki was creative in terms of setting, but the screen itself was often so dark I thought I was watching Season 3 of A Handmaid’s Tale, so how does one enjoy the talent behind the scenes if the scenes themselves are hard to make out? The filters are still a little overused so far, but I’d call S2 an upgrade, if only because I can see more of what’s going on.
I’ll admit that the 70s aesthetic wasn’t my favorite in the beginning (esp because I’m not particularly fond of the soupy colors and odd designs of the decade), but it’s growing on me a bit more here. The haziness gives the TVA a musty, claustrophobic feel, like it would smell vaguely of sawdust and cleaning fluid if you breathed it in.
The animation at the climax was quite pretty to look at, and the soundtrack continues to be the show’s boon.
4.25 out of 5 Sexy Leather Holsters
Tumblr media
MY THOUGHTS AND FINAL GRADE This episode’s purpose was to examine the consequences of Sylvie’s actions at the end of S1, and for some reason, it chose to do so without her present for most of it. Not once was it suggested that she should face punishment, and in fact, she is seen in her few scenes as even more of a victim than S1, quickly becoming Loki’s purpose and motivation yet again without doing anything but stumbling into an Oklahoma McDonalds and asking for one of everything like a stoner on payday.
So much of this episode was Tom Hiddleston running around full tilt, and to that I say…brilliant. I could watch those cheeks clap for days.  Also, I’ll give the creative team credit, they finally seemed to understand that Tom’s hair is an actor unto itself and deserves some spotlight (I wish it was longer though…Ragnarok Hair Supremacy!). Nine out of ten mangos for thirst-quenching.
I'll give it props, I was engaged until the somewhat-muddled climactic activities (I needed a few rewinds to understand what Mobius was doing in the Sontaran costume). It certainly reads like Disney banked everything on this season doing well, with S2E1 still showing off the higher budget and more cinematic feel that the other MCU shows generally lack. I have no doubt it will pull in enough views for them to re-consider a S3. I'm still clenching a bit on what comes next, though.
I I'll go on to episode 2, but I reserve the right to stop at any time.
My theory: The Mysterious Pruner was OB.
3 out of 5 Sexy Leather Holsters overall for the episode.

hey mary, do you like Loki? Did you watch the finale?
Tumblr media
(this ask has spoilers)
Before the show, no. I didn't like Loki at all. This is funny because MCU Loki was the only version of the character I couldn't stand, while in Assassins Creed, Loki easily became one of my favorite video-game characters. Of course, that's on Disney and the way they poorly wrote the characters as this sociopath genocide who envies his brother and never tried to reconnect with his original race or anything. Even after Ragnarok, with Loki stealing the Stone, he was just off for me. And then the first season came, and he was still showing dictator behaviors, acting like he had the right to control everybody else, and I was like "Ugh white man" - Yes, MCU Loki is a white cisgender dude, and this is from a critical point of view. Disney never worked with the possibility of him being genderfluid, and a fucking 1-inch note on the side of the screen during the credits doesn't change the way Tom Hiddleston has portrayed the character as a cisgender man. And don't get me started on how problematic the whole Sylvie Female Loki is okay- Do you wanna see a true genderfluid Loki? Go watch the Netflix "Ragnarok" Show. That said, I obv pretend Disney never wrote shit and Loki has always been explicitly genderfluid, and try to write him like that as well.
Anyway, I really liked the finale, especially if you compare the overall quality of this season with the first one; The show got better. Really better. it's way funnier, the rhythm is finer, and the dynamics between the characters work well. Even the photography is prettier. Of course, nothing is perfect. They got rid of the self-incest part (thank god) but somehow brought misogyny back on. Where did Sylvie's development go? Renslayer's? B-15's? Every female character is either evil or unimportant. Sylvie was literally the main in the first season but we barely got to see her now, only for her to be left with no ending. And the fact that even Kang's new variant got more screen time than Renslayer is a crime. At least we got a lot of Mobius, he's such a sweetheart.
But yes, I do like Loki. I didn't adore the finale, but I liked it a lot. Excluding the issues I mentioned before, Loki finally got his well-deserved development and GLORIOUS PURPOSE. I was so happy I got the reference and then I got so sad. He's alone, that poor soul. And I was left speechless, for a good moment I literally had to pause the show, when we got the "centuries later" logo. His willpower and determination to do the right thing after so long? Amazing. Two words to show the most unique and incredible growth a character ever had in the MCU before. Loki really became the master of time to save his friends, only in the end for his purpose to be alone without them. I AM NOT OKAY
btw, I would love to know what you guys thought about the ending, the whole god of stories being a thing now; did you guys like the show, I think it had one of the best endings for Marvel, just behind Wandavision (both shared the same problems, open holes in the narrative for future projects probably).
Good news for anyone who actually read to the end, this means I finally get to write my TVA!Reader x Wanda series, the most slow burn, enemies to lovers, ride-or-die couple ever wrote it; yay!

So... I have a few thoughts regarding Sylvie. In spite of my love for Lokius, I feel really bad for Sylvie's character development in this season cause I really kinda wanted her to flourish as well cause last season we didn't get to see her backstory apart from that one scene in Ep4, S1. Just me?
Tumblr media
Warning: Contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 5 so do not read if you haven't watched the episode!
Cause there was a lot of potential for Sylvie to become Enchantress!Sylvie. And even though the whole McDonalds thing is funny, I kind of wish they had found a better way for her to become who she is.
Perhaps in Season 3 (I think there will be one considering the high ratings Season 2 is getting), we will see her able to develop as a character. Still, right now it's hard to see too much character development from Sylvie, cause the season is prioritizing the plot and Loki's character development, as well as Mobius's (and a few bits and pieces of B15, Casey, OB, Brandon/X-5 - which granted didn't need to be that long, although I am not complaining so much cause we got some hella great scenes of Loki using his magic).
I really want to see the badass Sylvie again we saw in Season 1. And while I do love her development scenes like that moment with Timely in episode 3, or those small moments when she realizes she needs to go back to the gang, I find that these are small developments and not quite enough to shape her character more richly. I kind of actually wish Marvel would release a limited series of Sylvie (three episodes or so) just to give her story breathing space because right now the only person in her life that seems to really matter is the people in her lives (like that kid in McDonalds or that guy at the record store) and we don't know them so much, so it's hard to feel invested in her life because it feels so separated from Loki's current situation.
So this is not really about Sylki or Lokius (in spite of my love for Loki/Mobius, I dislike the ship wars that start between these two), but mainly focused on my thoughts & concern for Sylvie's character moving forward. Hopefully, we will get some great character development for her soon (Season 1 was rather lacking in that dept, to be honest, and I had been hoping to see more of her getting fleshed out in this season, maybe even going back to her Asgardian roots possibly?), and she will be able to be her own magnificent kickass self after our amazing Loki gets a chance to ascend to the throne he was always supposed to have in the (most likely) form of God of Stories <3!
I mean, come on... if she went back to Asgard right after killing He Who Remains, that would have made more sense right? I know she probably has another double version of her in that timeline, but I just think it sort of makes sense... I almost wanted her to be curious about that life she could have had in the 'original' timeline.
Still, all these not-so-great thoughts about Sylvie's character development aside, I'm personally loving the effin' heck out of this season for the suspense and thrills this show is giving us with the grand twists and turns it's giving us, so apart from this little qualm, I am SO here for Episode 6! <3
I just want the show to treat Sylvie better I guess, that's all <3 Especially caused Sophia Di Martino is SUCH a great actress, she deserves to have great character development for Sylvie! <3 And hopefully a great origin story moment for Sylvie later on in the future for the Multiverse storylines in the coming future!

It's been a while since a piece of media let me down quite this much, but I guess I was overdue for it.
That Loki season finale (and the whole season really) was a major letdown.
I think on some level I get what they were trying to do, but it did not land for me. I'm glad Loki gets to level up as a hero. I am! He deserves it! But at what cost? No one will ever know what he's done. He'll probably never see his brother again, or his best friend, or the love of his life. He didn't get a chance to say a proper goodbye to anyone. After all the time this season spent spinning its wheels, the ending felt rushed.
The whole season just felt off for me. Season 1 set a high bar. I don't even know what this is.
I mean yeah, maybe I didn't manage my expectations. Maybe I've got my shipping goggles on too tight. But it's not just that. I was a Sylvie stan as much as I was a shipper and while I'm relieved they didn't kill her off, it didn't feel like a satisfying end to her story. She's such a compelling character and they didn't do enough with her. We got the beginnings of some character development, but it really feels like they benched one of their MVPs. And for what? Because they couldn't handle an angry female character?
Of course it wouldn't be the first time this franchise has wasted a compelling character or a capable actor. They didn't do nearly enough with Gugu either. (At least we got that gorgeous 1890s Victorian outfit though!) I liked that we got to see B-15 come into her own as a leader. OB was a fun addition. If I could only keep one thing from this season, it would be him.
But what was the whole point of Brad? Of Dox? Why all the fuckery with Miss Minutes? They'd better recast that creep Majors if they intend to keep Kang as the next big bad. (Seriously. Get Aldis Hodge in there! Or David Ajala! Instant upgrade!) Ugh. So much screentime that could have been spent elsewhere.
You could tell there was turnover on the creative team too. It felt the the two seasons weren't even in conversation with each other. Why the hell was Eric Martin going around liking tweets about Sylki? What an absolute troll. The queer baiting was just plain mean. Now the shippers on both sides are in the same shitty leaking boat. So much for you go, I go.
This whole season was a waste of time. But I'll look forward to how the fanfic writers write their way out of this one.
Onward and upward, fans. Take it from a millennial fangirl who's been through several major fandom disappointments: At the end of the day, these characters belong to us now. They're finally free and so are we.

I agree with almost everything you said about Brett and adoption storyline but one thing bothers me - the rush. They don’t plan the finale week before shooting. If she decided to leave the show they knew way before. They could make better story arc than this. She deserves better, we deserve better. I assume it’s not the same situation like when TK decided to take LOA - but maybe I’m wrong and they were surprised (because I still believe Kara leaves - just got this vibes… like when everyone didn’t want to believe they were writing Casey out but I wasn’t surprised when certain episode was out) remember when back in the end of season 7 Sev had this big arson arc? It was only 3 episodes but it wasn’t as life changing as adoption is - that’s why I’m really disappointed in writers :( it should have more screen time!
Love hearing your thoughts! 💜
I agree, I definitely think they should've given more time to this. I mean there is a possibility that they didn't know Kara would want to leave (if she is) until half way through the season or after they had already decided on how they wanted Sylvie's arc to be this season. And I honestly do not have much faith in the writer's abilities to actually do justice to an exit, no matter how much time they know. That ship sailed the moment they knew Jesse was leaving and had ample of time and still yanked brettsey around. Because I truly do think once they have an idea about how they want an arc to go, they stick to it even if there's new developments that means they should change it up.
So yeah, I am disappointed at the writers. But I guess why I'm not too fussed is because I'm always disappointed at the writers and the executives decisions. And I don't expect much from them, especially about exits.
Now if Kara is staying and this is just Sylvie's new arc for the next season, I am more disappointed in them and more fussed, as there is absolutely no need to rush this so much when they could have time.
Although why I do think the storyline is so crammed right at the end is one, because as I just said, I think the writers try and have their cake and eat it too when it comes to planned storylines and two because Casey coming back briefly needed to spark something in Sylvie's life, just knocking her out of sorts to some degree. So while I definitely wish they spaced it out more, I do think that there's probably more complicated matters at play which alongside disappointing writing has equalled this.
Still obviously not setting my opinion in stone until we know if this is an exit for Sylvie or even a possible way of reintroducing Casey to make occasional guest appearances. But largely I agree it deserved more time, especially for something as big and life changing as this.
Thank you for asking! And thank you for saying you love hearing my thoughts, that makes me super happy and glad to hear!! It makes answering these asks even more worthwhile! 💖💖💖

just finished the third season of emily in paris and i have some opinions:
- this show is one of the FEW things i've watched that would make me think (some) men deserve better
- emily and gabriel have more chemistry, even as friends, than camille and gabriel
- alfie had one hell of a character development this season and you can see how much he cared about emily here and didn't want to lose her. deserved better
- i get that the wedding itself is probably what made camille realise how bad the situation was but girl did you really have to do that in front of everyone? the situation goes beyond your own couple like- and she's the one who proposed to gabriel!
- weird as fuck to cheat on your boyfriend after making a pact with emily so you could have him all to yourself only to end up cheating on him but okay,,
- mindy sweetie?? you had a boyfriend that obviously cared about you and wanted to make you happy and you chose a rich douchebag over him just because you had a teenage crush on him?? there's literally no chemistry between mindy and nico it's so funny. of course benoît felt threatened considering that nicolas was actually chasing mindy?
- how did we lose mindy and benoît when we were this close to having them back AND emily and alfie? two couples that had actual chemistry?
- and somehow sylvie is back with her husband after only meeting up with him to sleep with him for god knows how many years? her lover deserved better too 😭
- i found it so weird that luc and marianne spoke english together, aren't they both french?!
- french acting is so bad, this is why i never liked french films. french actors are only tolerable when they speak english and i'll die on this hill, they sound SO unnatural when acting in french.

Who are your favourite CF/OC ships and characters? Why?
Chicago Fire Characters
Matt Casey - Jesse Spencer bought me to this show and i love everything about Matt - he is caring and loving. he cares about the people in his life in such a profound way
Sylvie Brett - i have loved her character development on the show - she went from such a shy character to being this badass paramedic PIC and it is amazing
Stella Kidd - love seeing the female firefighter thing explored. i wish we got to see more of Stella's history as she sounds like she has been through a lot of difficult things
Violet Makami - such good addition to the cast. I think the actress as proven that she can act her ass off in the last few episodes.
Evan Hawkins - MY LOVE. just a good soul who deserved better
Peter Mills - the way he treats everyone is just so heartwarming. he was one of the only ones that went and comforted Casey after Hallie died. The way he treats Gabby after they break up with so much respect and love. He deserved better storylines
Wallace Boden - the heart and soul of the firehouse. there is no Chicago fire without Boden
Leslie Shay - provided so much humor to the show and i wish they did more with her character. i wish she had more serious relationships on the show
Gabby Dawson (until like her last couple of seasons) - i loved her badassness. the way she took control of a scene. this was also her downfall. but she had so much fight in her and i loved that
Ships
Brettsey - i think these two are so perfectly matched. they are both good people that have been through hell and back and deserve to be loved and happy. i hope they work things out.
Hawkami - oh what could have been. the whole sort of forbidden love thing i liked. the way evan looked at Violet and supported her made me fucking melt.
Stellaride - Stella bought out the best in Severide. he was a dickhead up to her coming onto the show. loved everything about their relationship
Dawsey - very cute from the beginning. the whole friends who are really in love with one another was good. they complemented each other in some ways but were the worse in others
Cruz and Chloe - they are just cute
Hallie and Matt - didn't really see much of their relationship but i loved what i saw. they had fire and they were cute
Chicago Med Characters:
Daniel Charles - the only sane one of the whole hospital. can he fucking run the show
Crockett Marcel - the next sane one i think. he is still reckless but better than others. i also like his backstory. it is tragic but it brings more to his character
Maggie Lockwood - another sane one - she has got a lot of fight to her and i enjoy this
Ships
Natalie and Crockett - the one and only ship i was here for. i liked their chemistry. i wasn't expecting to like it but i just wanted Natalie far away from Will that i was gonna take anything i could. But Crockett gave her so much love and i wish we got to see more of them.
I dont watch Chicago PD

I hate to say it because Sylvie is my fave, but she came off desperate and so extremely cringe this episode. I have just stopped liking Sylvie this season and it reminds me of when she annoyed me for most of season 9, but at least then, I had hope. This episode actually convinced me to finally stop watching and scrub my socials for purely CF/OC accounts.
Everyone has every right to stop watching a show when it no longer excites them. Especially when you see a show begin to make questionable choices.
Sylvie is still one of my favorite characters in the OC world. My problem is the way the writing is headed this season. I feel like AN has these ideas in her head that don't necessarily translate well on paper. For example, she is convinced that everyone likes OFI storylines, and maybe some people do, but it is so overdone this season. Even when Severide, King of OFI, is no longer on the show we still get another OFI storyline. I'm not even going to touch up on what happened to Gallo last season and how badly they handled his character development.
With Sylvie, the writing has been flip flopping these past few episodes that it is very frustrating to watch. Do I wish they kept her with Matt? Abso-freakin-lutely! Do I wish her storylines focused on her career instead of her romance? A thousand times yes.
But knowing that Jesse is no longer on the show, I was prepared for a moving on storyline but not like this. I'm still mad they didn't give her a proper wallowing period. There is nothing wrong with showing emotion and sadness and she deserved the time to honor her and Matt's love. For this new storyline, I wouldn't have liked it but I would have been okay if they gradually moved slowly into the dating territory after their first coffee date but the writing after that is giving me whiplash. The writers need to figure out what they want and stick with it. In my opinion, Sylvie shouldn't be the one to do the chasing, she should be pursued because she deserves it. She needs to say, I'm 'a freakin eleven' and I deserve nothing but the best and not settle!
And you are right, the writing and dialogue this season is very bad (I'm still cringing at Violet and the floater's interactions last episode).
This season has been very frustrating to watch because we know that the writing and storylines can and should be better.

Sylvie Brett Appreciation Week
Day 7 - Free choice
I think one of the greatest things about procedural is the opportunity to have characters grow. At the start Sylvie Brett, was a small town farm girl; who showed up in season 3 as a naive, peppy, curious young woman who was leaving behind a toxic town and emotionally manipulative runaway groom.
Tumblr media
Now Sylvie Brett (two TT’s) has grown into a confident, skilful, brave yet vulnerable, Chicagoan who as never lost her goodness or ability to care for people. She is doing a job she loves, with people she loves and is now in love and the fact we’ve been able to see how much Brett has matured and earned her place as PIC and is finally in a relationship with someone who is worthy, is just so satisfying.
Tumblr media
For my free choice, I guess it’s just a bit of a ramble about what would be good to see next for Sylvie Brett’s arc.
1. Obviously, it would be great to see Brett in a happy, stable relationship and see what that will bring in terms of storylines. (I really, really want to see a house renovations and more commitments in Brettsey’s near future!)
Tumblr media
2. Family. Even though we’ve seen so much about Sylvie’s adoption and we got to meet Julie, it feels like we’ve barely scratched the surface of Sylvie’s family, her past and what those relationships are like. It would also be nice to see how she interacts with Matt’s sister and to get an insider look at how Brettsey develop as a familial unit as well how as a couple fit with their 51 family.
Tumblr media
3. Stella and Sylvie deserve more friendship time. I hope we get to see some sisterly bonding through wedding planning shenanigans and more in season 10. It’s also going to be fun to see their bond with Violet Mikami grow. I also hope we get mentions of Foster if we can’t see her.
Tumblr media
4. More recognition of Brett’s skills and ability as a leader needs to happen in Season 10 and if it’s linked to Sylvie going above and beyond to help people outside of the job, even better.
Tumblr media
5. Understanding the toll of the job would be an interesting theme with a couple of the characters. However, with Ambo, they’re often busier than the others in Firehouse 51, they interact and deal with people in pretty traumatic situations on every shift nevermind working in a pandemic so that must take just a general toll. Then there’s the gruesome cases or the pulling at the heartstring moments, which usually we get to see snippets of but I’d love to see more of that at the centre of episodes and get insight into how 2021 Sylvie Brett deals with it. Now that she has a Casey and hopefully a pretty solid future ahead of them, how will she deal with traumatic or dangerous situations will be interesting to see. In season 10, I’d love a big action, potential crossover, significant episode with Ambo at the heart of it.
Tumblr media
To sum up, Sylvie Brett is an awesome character. She’s incredibly relatable and clearly a comfort character for so many people. Season 10 better be a great season for her otherwise we riot!
Thank you to @pic-brett for arranging this week and too all the amazing gif creators… I am in awe.

I need spoilers for episodes 5 and 6. They've got to be out there. I can't take two more weeks of this.
I think what's giving me this vaguely ill feeling, right now, is the sinking realization that there was no grander plan behind Loki's getting drunk, breaking the Timepad, just general kinda incompetent behavior. There were theories and there were hints and subtext and it amounted to nothing.
Cut for spoilers/negativity, sorry.
Basically I'm getting major "that opening scene in IW was just too full of holes, the-sun-will-shine-on-us-again, one little dagger, Loki has to have something up his sleeve - oh .... no, no he's really dead, there was no greater plan" flashbacks.
It's so incredibly frustrating for Loki's narrative to come so close to something profound, again and again, only to swing and miss at the last second. The pieces are there. The threads are there. And tptb keep choosing to just ... sit on them, bc idk, it's easier for Loki's complexity to remain unexplored?
Tom says that episodes 4 and 5 are where the series takes off and I'm just like, you can't wait until the second to last episodes to have something happen! You've been dropping breadcrumbs since episode 1 - episodes 4 and 5 are where you start to sweep them up! You've only got 6 total!
Also, I was really interpreting Loki having confused friendship with romance, bc that's what makes the most sense for his character but then there was this, and the aforementioned 'oh so this really is just surface-level material and I shouldn't even waste my time examining the subtext and context clues' feeling occurs. (Note - this article isn't overly flattering to Loki, bc of course it isn't, so just be aware of that before reading.)
So, yeah, it's just - it's not exactly the content of this episode that has me so upset. I can live with bad plots and dangling threads. Lord knows I tolerate other, arguably much more terrible tv shows for the sake of the parts I like (Reign, Once Upon a Time, a few seasons of Pretty Little Liars, just to name a few).
It's not the content. It's the refusal of tptb to take Loki's character to the depths he deserves, especially since they promised us that this series would really explore his identity and his gender and all of these things that the fandom mostly has wanted. It's frustration in the overall way the surface-level plot makes Loki's characterization suffer. And it's definitely the trigger of those feelings of heartbreak and fury and denial and grief that followed IW. I practically have ptsd from that death scene.
(I realize that these are hefty words to use to describe one's reaction to fiction, especially in the sense that an emotional downward spiral is being legitimately triggered by a tv show, but - look, everyone already knew I was cringe, okay, so leave me alone with my feelings.)
I think that if the show had more episodes, there would have been hope for it? Like all the breadcrumbs that have been dropped implied lots of fascinating things to be explored, but they just didn't have room to explore them as thoroughly as they'd need to in order for all of it to have an impact. Loki/Sylvie does not feel earned. Mobius turned on the TVA super quickly (so did B-15, for that matter). Ravonna went from kinda sus to outright villain in, like, ten minutes. And Loki and Mobius's friendship didn't exactly come out of nowhere, bc it was set up as the outcome from the first episode (in my opinion) but it did happen much too quickly. It wasn't earned, either. And the reason I'm harping on this is because these are all really good character journeys that could have been done so much better - yeah, even Loki/Sylvie - if they had just paced them better, used more of their own subtext, and had a few more episodes in which to develop the characters alongside the complicated plot.
(Yeah, there may be a season 2, but I'm not here for waiting a whole nother year or so for it to be filmed, produced, and released only for it to continue to ultimately not meet my expectations.)
So, yes. I'm sorry for the negativity; I realize I went from "hey I mostly liked this! It wasn't that bad!" to "I will ragequit and kill everyone in this story and then myself" in, like, a few hours but - well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'll most likely rewatch it again tonight. I may or may not cry it out and then do my best to enjoy the remaining two episodes for what they are, not for what they could or might be. Once the rawness of all of this fades, I'll focus on the things I liked and come up with my own headcanons, I suppose. Or maybe I'll overall change my mind again. Idk. Whatever. I just need a glass of wine and a few more xanax tbh. (Great. Now fiction is going to give me a drug problem as well lmfao.)
Also - it is actualy really, really funny that, if you think about it, it turns out that a fanfic by Tom isn't actually all that good. (I'm being facetious, but the general sentiment is true.) I'm sorry, Tom. I know you're excited about this and you said this episode was your favorite, so I hope you don't see some of these reactions (either here, or on twitter, or reddit, or wherever he may end up) and feel bad about yourself/your project. I guess there's just no universal cup of tea for everybody.

I was just rewatched season 7 to 10x05 for Brettsey, and honestly, despite the slow burn, angst and miscommunication, it is such a joy to watch Matt and Sylvie not only fall in love with each other but also become best friends and learn to trust each other fully. These two have been through so much and have so much trauma, especially Matt, that it was amazing to see them be loved and love unconditionally even now with long distance.
Also, I don't know if the writers did this on purpose, but I feel like we got back a full version of Sylvie and Matt, versions of them that I don't think we've seen since before season 6 or even earlier for Matt due to all the heartache.
They were goofier, more open, more vulnerable, laughed more, and it's like they were finally unafraid to be themselves even if there was a slight chance of being left behind because now Matt Casey and Sylvie Brett know they deserve better. They deserve each other.
Like I just fell in love with Matt, Sylvie and Brettsey all over again. Also, Jesse and Kara were FLAWLESS despite the huge amounts of hate they've received especially Kara.
Oh yeah, I couldn’t agree more! Their development is so beautiful to watch because even though season 9 was a pile of rough angst, their journey together in general is very much about them bringing out the brighter, happiest parts of themselves. And I guess that’s part of why I love them so much in the first place. Even when things get tough with them, there’s nothing heavy about their relationship. It’s very light and supportive and they really just show up for each other in every way possible!! They’ve been bogged down by a lot of serious stuff and uncertainty in their past relationships so seeing them now being so confident in the fact that they belong together forever eben through the LDR is beautiful to see <3
