there needs to be more research papers published on fandom behaviors, like, this NEEDS to be studied under a microscope.

multiple things about it need to be explained????

I've definitely seen more female fans* (than male fans) engage in online fandom spaces (and also in person fandom spaces like conventions for shows). Why are women more likely to spend time and create content for non-monetary purposes? Why are women more loyal and attached to fictional characters???

People who are part of online fandoms are more likely to develop a (false) sense of friendship and loyalty with celebrities. So has this kind of parasocial behaviour drastically increased in the last decade??

Not to mention the shipping culture. This is applicable to both: real life shipping and fictional shipping (basically, shipping actors vs shipping characters. A lot of people do both, while the other majority vehemently supports that shipping actors crosses a moral line). What I need to study is if/how this sort of shipping has affected actors? Has it changed their understanding of the characters? In negative or positive way? Has this sort shipping changed their relationship with the actors they're being shipped with??

The last brainrot topic for the day: Fandom identity. Now, most fans online are "multi fandom" (again, this information is based on personal experience) and they do not tend to restrict their content to one particular character or show at a time. That being said, there are still significant number of fans that give more value to one particular show than others, so they would "belong" to one fandom but might also engage in other content. And it is so fascinating when you think how this has transitioned into a "real community" and people hold the same values or loyalty to it. For example: you have xy fandom and ab fandom, you see a lot of scenarios where it'd be "oh the xy community always treats us badly, we're being bullied/marginalized and this is why we, the ab community, do not like anyone who identifies as xy."

Disclaimer: *these are just my observations from being on tumblr/twitter etc. I don't have an actual stats on what gender engages more with fandom as a whole. The demographic numbers released are usually by networks or by shows, not a central study that looks at fandom behaviours.

Guys, guys, guys. I'm so excited about the upcoming season for the Pens. I can't even articulate the joy I feel, sure, there is a component of "THIS COULD THE FUNNIEST HOT MESS" to ever happen, but mostly it is giddy excitement bcos we are going ALL-IN. I JUST WANT TO BE ENTERTAINED. And the Pens will for sure deliver. But will the rest of the NHL & it's fandoms UNDERSTAND out INSANE FERAL JOY AT THE POSSIBILITY OF MANY AJ EXPLOSION?!
