Rewatched Lockwood & Co. so I can be mad at Netflix for cancelling it

"We can look out for each other." + QPR JatP?

Reggie hummed as he scaled the ladder of Alex's treehouse, hoping he'd find his friend in there. That's where his mom said he'd find him anyhow. Only when his head popped through the opening, he saw Alex in a huddle, clinging to his knees.

"Lexie?"

Alex looked up, his eyes red-rimmed, and his bottom lip bitten raw. "Hey Reg," he said in a small voice.

"What's wrong?" Reggie said, scrambling over to his side. Alex shook his head. "You want me to call the others over?" Alex nodded. "Alrighty."

Reggie leant over, squeezing an arm around Alex, a tiny reassurance before he reached for the walkie-talkie. They all had one, using them to talk late into the night, to summon the others to their side at problems or just to let the group know where the ice cream truck was.

He pressed the button, wincing at the loud squawk it let out. "Y'all we got an upset Alex, can you hustle over here pronto? Over."

"Ten four good buddy, hopping on my bike now," Luke replied. "Over."

"Sorry, trapped doing chores," Bobby grumbled. "Alex you can keep me on the channel or tell me later, over."

Alex shook his head subtly, and Reggie nodded. "He'll call you later Bobbers. Stay strong, over."

"Papi is going to walk me over in a few, and mami is giving me cookies to share. Chocolate chip, Alex's favourite," Julie said. "Over."

"I hope you're bringing enough for everyone, because you're crazy if you don't like chocolate chip," Reggie replied. "See you all soon, over and out."

Reggie sat there, softly rubbing Alex's back, breathing deep in hopes his friend would copy the rhythm, instead of the stuttered, rattling thing he was doing now. Humming a Whitney Houston song, grinning when Alex slowly started to sing along, his voice shaky and unsure.

They were still going when they heard Luke's bike hit the ground under the tree, and Julie's dad calling out to be home for supper-and that they were all welcome, as always.

"Alrighty, what's the problem?" Luke asked as he sat criss cross on an apple box he had claimed as a chair.

"Is it your parents?" Julie asked quietly as she handed Alex a cookie, then one to each of the other boys. "Are they being awful again?"

Alex waved his hand back and forth in a so-so motion, taking a bite of the cookie. "They started going on about high school starting next week, about the clubs I need to join, the girls I need to meet up with. They made it sound terrifying and horrible."

"Did you ask Livvie?" Luke asked around a mouthful of cookie.

Alex shook his head. "She's away with friends out of town, at some cabin or another. I don't know how to get in touch."

"Will she be home before she heads back to school?" Reggie asked, taking smaller bites of his treat, wanting to savour each bite.

"For a few days, mom insisted," Alex replied. "I'll talk to her then, but that's ages away."

"We're all in the same boat you know," Julie said quietly, nibbling her cookie. "None of us know what high school will be like. What the teachers are like, or the classes. I'm nervous."

"I'm not," Luke said with a shrug. "School is school. Same boring subjects, same awful food."

"You can front all you want, I know you aren't that brave," Reggie said, playfully shoving him. "But it'll be alright. We can look out for each other."

"We always have each other right?" Julie asked with a wide grin.

Alex finally managed a smile at that. "And we always will." He reached for another cookie. "Do you think the school has a set of drums I can use?"

"I bet they do," Luke mused. "Maybe we can see about us all taking the same music class, start up that band we always talked about."

"You're never giving up on that are you?" Julie asked with an eye roll.

"Nope!" Luke replied jubilantly. "We all rock, we all play instruments. Julie's dad knows all those club owners to help us get gigs, and can film us."

"Bobby's lola has the van, and she'd drive us around, until we can," Alex added.

"I can design a super cool logo for us, if we ever decide on a name," Reggie piped up.

"Well let's get to high school first and we can figure the rest out later," Julie said. "For now let's get out of this tree house, I can hear it creaking every time one of us moves and I'm terrified it'll collapse under us."

At that the wood gave an ominous groan and they all shared a look, scrambling out of the tree house, which was still standing when they were on the ground, but Alex silently thought if any of them tried to go in it again they would be coming down with it.

"So, what's for supper?" he asked Julie. "It's not your dad's spaghetti is it?"

"Come on, Ray's spaghetti isn't that bad," Reggie argued.

"Yes it is," Alex and Luke chorused.

Julie giggled at that. "It's mami's night to cook, so it's probably going to be tamales and pork adobo bowls."

"Yum!" Reggie exclaimed. Then he picked up the walkie. "Hey Bobbers, you up for Rose's cooking for dinner? Over."

"Anything beats leftover meatloaf," Bobby's voice came down the line. "I'll be there in thirty, then you can tell me what I missed at the meeting. Over."

"You're supposed to say over and out Robert," Luke teased. "Over."

Alex grinned as he listened to his friends squabble, laughing and joking with each other. Knowing that despite their arguing, he knew he could count on them-no matter what. And he always would.

sorry 2 keep ruminating on jatp's movie habits except that i'm not <3

reggie has a star wars in there... i've never seen a star wars but i can see him liking the one with the darth vader reveal (empire strikes back?) the most. i also think he'd like rogue one enough to put it in his top 4. as for the other two, i'm thinking kiki's delivery service... and once julie shows them some modern classics, reggie adds shrek. it just feels right.

luke goes hard for romeo + juliet (1996). i'm RIGHT. i'm correct. i think after the trials and tribulations of suffering a starcrossed romance he simply relates way too hard. beyond that... he gets really into 10tihay and heartily approves of patrick's gift to kat at the end. he gets really into thg as well... especially catching fire, and then pacific rim. everyone gets on his ass about his top 4 they all call him a "wife guy" and he's kind of offended they needed to see his top 4 movies in order to make that deduction

alex's top 4 are clueless, but i'm a cheerleader, brokeback mountain, and all things KNIVES OUT. alex didn't think he'd love the murder mystery thing either but he ends up getting really into it and guesses who did it.

julie's top 4 are dirty dancing, raise your voice, princess mononoke, and coraline... i think she'd really appreciate coraline as a horror film bc she has such a good relationship to her mother and has a lot of thoughts on the subject. also Raise Your Voice isn't, like, a great movie by any means but it means a lot to her bc she watched it with her mom and then after rose died it meant Even More.

A while back I threatened to post my outline of a hypothetical season two of JATP. This is that outline (seasons 3-5 will be longer coming but they're also gonna happen because I said so). I'm using what I know Kenny said about how the show would have gone, which means I'm not letting myself do ships other than Juke and Willex since those are the only ones we know would have been canon in the rest of the show, and I'm also trying to achieve the ending Kenny planned (even though I have. No idea if I'd make the same calls? Anyway)

So this season in my head would have three major Subjects: developing the backstory of Trevor/Bobby and beginning overt Carrie development via her interactions with him, an Alex family arc (letting us develop not only Willex but also his relationship with Julie, as well as looking into his past with the guys), and of course the Nick possession plotline (sorry Nick you're last but most pressing I swear). Externally, the framework for this is a school show where Julie and Nick have to work together (think the dance thing but as a season long arc whoops. We have to get them in the same room often. For dramatic irony)

Episode Thoughts below

Episode 1:

As a teaser we would get a flashback to Julie and Carlos talking about the ghosts, helping recap the previous season while establishing what Carlos knows and how he feels about it.

The main plot of this episode would be Nick/Caleb trying to get closer to Julie and Luke pouting, for which Julie calls him out since it's just Nick trying to be friends as far as she knows.

Because the guys are able to touch Julie and have been revealed to Carlos, Luke is like "what if we revealed ourselves to other ppl, like our parents" and Alex talks him out of it - at the time it all seems very face value but this is obviously foreshadowing his feelings on the family stuff

Bobby/Trevor is panicking and trying everything to learn more about the band, including attending a JATP show

The featured song for this would be the show Trevor attends, which would either tie into Luke's jealousy over Nick or poke at Trevor's issues by referencing the guys' pasts. Possibly if it's cleverly written we can get both, and Luke apologises to Julie about the Nick thing afterwards while Trevor falls into a guilt spiral

Episode 2

Teaser: Trevor shows up to the Molina house while Julie is out to talk to Ray, looking super frazzled (directly following guilt spiral above)

The main plot would be Alex and Luke having another issue while talking about their families, resulting in Alex going to find Willie but being unable to talk to him and eventually ending up at Julie's house as Luke and Reggie look for him; he opens up to Julie about his relationship with his parents and why Luke going from "screw family!" To "man I love my parents" is so hurtful in particular

Carlos and Flynn work together trying to divert Trevor and Ray's questions about the band. This is the comedic relief but can also be used to plant some seeds of a Flynn insecurity arc

Carrie decides to admit she liked Julie's show to Nick, because in her mind that'll put them "on" again, only to find that he's reacting strangely to her in a way that's not normal annoyed Nick

Featured songs include a Carrie rehearsal where we see her distracted by how badly her conversation with Nick went and a Hollywood Ghost Club show that Alex sees when he goes looking for Willie, which ends up making him more upset when he sees Willie dancing in it

Episode 3

After Alex saw the HGC they're like clearly we need to get Willie out of there so both the teaser and the main plot are this; Willie is under Caleb's control and there are a series of near-misses with Caleb!Nick just out of sight

Carlos is upset about being left out and complains to Flynn, who is also deeply upset but tries to distract him

Trevor tries to ask Carrie about Julie's band but she is only interested in complaining about how weird Nick has been

Featured songs include a rap by Flynn designed to distract Carlos and make him laugh, which gets cut off partway through, and a Willex duet that's also kind of a battle of the bands between jatp and the hgc

Episode 4

Willie knows Caleb is coming back and the freeing wasn't successful so he begs them to go as the teaser

Julie can't give Alex Willie so she decides she wants to give him closure with his family - while Luke was ok with this last season Alex is not and they finally have a conversation about how they all have overstepped with that stuff, keeping Julie from actually making contact

Carrie realises her dad is severely messed up over jatp and decides she has to investigate this (because if she is a Good Person then she can make people like her!) and attempts to ingratiate herself again with Julie and Flynn (yes this goes terribly)

Caleb!Nick and Julie continue to hang out, which is mostly just ominous and also showcases Luke's development since episode one bc he's annoyed but doing much better

Featured song here is a Caleb!Nick and Julie duet they're thinking about doing for the school show

Episode 5

Willie finds out that Caleb is possessing Nick in the teaser

Julie enlists the others to do something nice for Alex, and they write a song with an Alex feature while struggling to dance around the whole "your boyfriend is being held captive by an evil jazz ghost" thing

Flynn confronts Carrie about her sudden niceness, leading Carrie to snap back and pick at Flynn's insecurities - Carrie walks away knowing she's failed at her original plan but also Flynn walks away deeply upset

Carlos becomes convinced, between Trevor's weirdness and Carrie's, that the Wilsons are part of some grand ghost conspiracy, and attempts to investigate accordingly, ending up sneaking into the Wilson house

The featured song for this episode is the Alex song they write

Episode 6

In the teaser, Alex's family sees JATP on Youtube

The main plot here is Julie and Alex navigating the fuckery that the Mercer family brings, partly them being "how dare you use his image!!!" on a legal level and partly them saying shit Alex Knows isn't true about who Alex was to them

Willie is trying to escape the HGC to warn the others about Caleb!Nick

Trevor finds Carlos who decides to confront him and realises as he's explaining his elaborate conspiracy theory that Trevor probably stole "my name is Luke" from Luke

Featured songs are a Trevor song he plays while explaining himself to Carlos and a song that JATP plays when they realise they can't get rid of the Mercers or call them out any other way

Episode 7

Willie appears post-"yes this is actually Alex" song and warns them about Nick/Caleb before getting yanked away

Alex gets to properly have it out with the family members who are present (some family members reconcile and some remain assholes that Alex gets to call out at the end) and ends up being like "all I care about is Willie, Im dead so we don't need to matter to each other" or something I don't know how I'd have him say it yet or who gets that speech (his dad? Probably?)

Julie and the guys try to figure out what to do, struggling to act normal around Caleb!Nick as they try to come up with a plan to help Willie; this takes them to the night of the school show

Carrie and Carlos both want to ask Julie questions about what's up with Trevor and get brushed off bc of the stress of everything else; Flynn runs interference but is visibly upset at being left out of the planning again

The only song in this is one from the school show rehearsal, maybe a Dirty Candi number or a Flynn song so we can keep the JATP with Nick song for the finale

Episode 8

In the teaser, Caleb knows Julie knows who he is and threatens her to stay away from his club, including Willie

Julie apologises to Carlos for brushing him off and then scolds him for all the stuff with Trevor, who she avoids like the plague; she thanks Flynn for everything she's done lately

The few Mercers who reconciled with Alex come to the show

Using the power of love, friendship, and aggressively singing, Julie and the guys push Caleb out of Nick (everyone thinks they upped their hologram light show game when the purple smoke appears) - Nick is bewildered but deeply grateful and gets some non-Caleb singing in at the finale of the song

FAQ/Info

What is the JatP Feb Fan Fest?

As stated elsewhere the JatP Feb Fan Fest is to provide an opportunity for all fans to show their support for each other and participate in a sort of “Secret Santa’ inspired gift exchange.

Why February?

Why not? But in all seriousness, admin decided ridiculously late in the year they wanted to do a gift exchange and had friends point out that a gift exchange in Jan/Feb could be nice since those months tend to be gloomier (especially for the more Northern Hemisphere folks)

Will this be a recurring event?

Admin does not want to make promises they cannot keep; however it will be nice if this could turn into an annual or semi-annual event. We will have to see what life holds in store for all of us, and how successful this one is.

Will there be a Discord server?

As of right now there is no Discord server, if there is enough interest as well as volunteers to act as moderators this is subject to change.

Why are there no minimums set to the gifts?

In an effort to make it so anyone can participate and to account for varying life circumstances there will be a wide variety of gifts accepted.  As such it is difficult to gauge what good minimums would be. However, admin is open to feedback and if you have any suggestions, please submit them through the askbox!

2. if you could have saved one TV show from cancellation, which one would it be?

On the one hand, the answer is JatP for obvious reasons. But honestly, aside from the Caleb cliffhanger which I always forget about because I never rewatch that scene because why would i subject myself to 1) nick 2) nick dropping by julie's house uninvited 3) nick's ridiculous head twist I'm satisfied with JatP as is. I would have loved more, but we can read the final hug scene as the boys coming back to life, like they were going to eventually anyways, and given how deus ex machina the magic hug is already, Willie also comes back to life because why not? Power of friendship! HEA!

So my actual answer has to be Pitch, because it was cut off after only ten amazing episodes on a horrible cliffhanger and there was so much story and character development left untold.

4. are there any shows you wish could just be cancelled already?

Not really, because if I think a show should be cancelled already, I'm probably not watching it anymore and its continued existence doesn't impact me. That being said, I always do a double take when I see how many seasons Grey's Anatomy has been running for because how.

9. what’s one show you thought you’d hate but turned out to really enjoy?

Normal People. I didn't like the first episode, and if my partner hadn't been into it, I would have stopped watching. I'm really glad I pushed through because it's such a beautiful love and character story, has one of my favorite ships of all time, and has some of my favorite episodes of television of all time.

So shoutout to my partner for seeing what I didn't in that first episode!

I'm gonna be cantankerous and say House of the Dragon. I'm just not a fan of GoT. Granted, I will probably eat my words if/when I ever get around to reading the books, but until then I find the discussion about it quite irritating, especially because of how inescapable it feels lmao

10. what’s one show you thought you’d love but turned out to really hate?

I think probably Chainsaw Man? I do like some aspects of it, and I really wanted to like it more, but it just feels almost boring how teenage angsty it is, it conforms too much to the genre to be interesting. I stopped watching after episode 8.

35. who are your top 5 TV characters right now?

1. Anthony Lockwood, Lucy Carlyle, George Karim (Lockwood & Co.) - I'm obsessed with Lockwood & Co. to the point where I'm procrastinating finishing the last book. I can't pick a favourite of the main trio, they're all so great in their own ways. I just love how truly found family they are, the actors are all spectacular, they just fill my heart with joy.

2. Scanlan Shorthalt (The Legend of Vox Machina) - It's so hard to pick a favourite in TLoVM and this is definitely subject to change, but Scanlan is my favourite at the moment. I love me a comic relief character who is much more than just comic relief and I was so impressed with his arc in the second season.

3. August of Arnäs (Young Royals) - deeply problematic/unpopular opinion, I know, but I will die on this hill. Young Royals is an incredible show with genuinely clever writing and complex characters, it's nowhere near as tropey as it appears from the outside, and while I love Wille & Simon I think the character writing really shines when it comes to August. It helps that he has Leo levels of self-hatred that manifest as egotism. They're surprisingly similar characters, actually.

4. Kendall Roy (Succession) - I think Kendall is the character I'm most interested in seeing genuinely change, either for the better (fucking over Logan) or for the worse (becoming Logan). Maybe he'll end up doing both. Either way, I'm rooting for him.

5. Geordi La Forge (Star Trek: TNG) - I've been actually watching TNG after years of catching episodes every now and then, and have come to realise that my favourite of the TNG crew is Geordi. I always thought it'd be Picard or Data, but I think Geordi is a great all-rounder, he's funny, he's kind, he's clever, he's approachable. I love him!

38. do you prefer hour long episodes, or 30 minute?

Hour long episodes are the best. Proper ones, too, without ads.

38. do you prefer 22 episode seasons, or 13?

I prefer 13 episode seasons I think. It generally makes for a better quality show. That said, there is also definitely space in my life for longer seasons when I want something less taxing.

46. do you prefer to watch TV alone or with friends?

Alone. I don't watch TV with friends that often, but even when I do more often than not I'd still rather watch it alone. I like forming my own opinions on things, I always care too much about what the person I'm watching it with is thinking.

Mostly the kid's/teen shows like JatP, Lockwood, Young Royals, Heartbreak High.

ahh! the dreaded favorite question! i love the hard work i've put into every fic. i love the bits of myself littered throughout these stories, like mile markers for my life. so i can't possibly pick an unqualified favorite.

but right now i think i'd say birds do it, bees do it, even educated fleas do it for the way i balance so many characters that have bit parts in nhie's voices and make them sound genuine + offer a generally sex-positive message + i just have a huge soft spot for how shira feels like a real teenage girl in this one?? idk i just think it's nice

D. what’s the most personal fanfic you’ve written?

mm, that distinction probably goes to life is a tightrope. really drew on my own period of estrangement from my mother and feeling absolutely alone to get into the mood of that one.

K. do you have a guilty pleasures in fic (reading or writing)?

sometimes i'm like 'oh no, am i evil for engaging with the sex lives of teenagers in my writing?' but then i'm like 'you know what? fanfiction gave me a healthy outlet for exploring my sexuality when i was an awkward teenager and providing others the opportunity to do the same with a realistic and kind portrayal of female sexuality is radical actually, keep the cycle alive, girl!'

Y. what are your thoughts on your personal satisfaction with something you’ve written vs. the popularity of your stories? do you tend to be most satisfied with your most popular stories?

well, my most popular stories are my clexa ones and ????? *internal shrieking*

but i've already talked plenty about how i needed clexa at that stage in my biness and not needing it anymore doesn't make the time spent on those fics/in that fandom valueless.

as for the rest of my stories, i do feel like i'm low-key a big name in the nhie fic-writing community, so most of my stories gain a certain amount of traction. and i am by-and-large very pleased with the fics i've written there.

i'm kinda in the vast middle-ground of jatp popularity, but i like it there. feels good, feels organic.

crazy ex was such a small community, but engagement was so high. bless y'all

1. Who is/are your comfort characters?

Definitely Reggie from JATP and Steve from Stranger Things. Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man. Basically good at heart but often goofy on the surface dudes who find themselves in situations way beyond their understanding of reality make me soft and happy.

14. Do you love the smell of earth after it rains?

Definitely! Though my main sense memory is walking across pavement after it rains and you can smell it in the air and you’re avoiding little puddles and everything seems weirdly quiet.

33. The last adventure you’ve been on?

Does teaching kids how to make their own stuffies with less than 24 hour notice of needing that skill count lol? I would say honestly it was last year when I went to New Orleans, LA and Anaheim all in two weeks (none of which are close to where I live or had I been before). The California portion I was by myself and managed to see two concerts and live my best life at Disneyland. To me that was an adventure and I miss it!

38. A soap bar that smells good?

It’s not a bar but the soap in the employee bathroom at work smells like cherry pop tarts (not on purpose lol) and I’m obsessed with it.

43. What’s your take on spicy foods?

I love them but what I consider spicy I know is subjective. Basically I like a low to medium level of spice on just about everything and will always choose the “spicy” option if it’s available as long as I don’t have reason to believe it will destroy my body. 😂 I have been known to be that person who asks for hot sauce to put on everything.

2: Flesh by Simon Curtis (Honestly 90ish% of what I listened to when writing Sink your Teeth was this song. So in a way THAT is the fic I would write for this song. XD)

But let's come up with another one! Considering the subject matter of the song. This would probably end up being another Mature fic. We could really lean into the "This is just my way of unleashing the feelings deep inside of me" line.

Explore some of the consequences of unhealthy emotional management. Honestly almost any of our JatP cast can fit into the "slips into unhealthy emotional coping mechanisms" territory. . .

I think with this particular song and angle though we could go with Bobby and dealing with trying to feel anything in those first few years after losing his band.

It would not be a happy fic.

This is a major to minor cover of the song from a Little Mermaid.

Every time I hear this song the story that plays in my mind is definitely one of a Siren(or siren-esque creature) drowning someone. We could probably go abstract and make it about any slow tempting to a fate that isn't exactly what the protagonist wants/expects.

BUT let's go in a completely different direction. Disregarding ALL pronouns in the song what if willex or flarrie meet at a club, and just get lost in the energy and moment. Losing themselves in each other.

Like if it was willex, it would be Alex trying to get over his anxiety, and enjoy the time with the cute guy flirting with him.

If it was flarrie it'd be some bizarre flirty game of chicken. Where they are both into each other and can clearly see the other is but being too stubborn about it until the tension just gets to be too much.
