So, remember that part when Oneiros fuses with his siblings? and he (they?) become this... thing?
Tumblr media
The fandom sometimes refer to this form as a “centaur”, because you know, upper half of a man + lower half of a quadruped, it’s impossible to miss it.
However if you look closely at his design...
Tumblr media
... you can see that the front legs have claws like those of a feline, while the hind legs are more hooved-like.
This means that Oneiros’ fused form isn’t like a “centaur” but more like a chimera, because it’s an amalgamate of different animals (souls) in a single body, just like the Greek mythological chimera.
However do you know what else is a * chimera * ?
Tumblr media
I have always wondered what was going on with the whole “human/animal mix” with Oneiros’ fused form, and why would Teshirogi do something so weird and random. But now I understand, and I gotta say that I love Teshirogi’s attention to details like this one, because THIS^ is actually brilliant.

I have been playing around calculating the BMI (body mass index) of various Saint Seiya characters, and while most of them are healthy and have a good relation between height-weight, to my surprise, Icelus is overweight with his 91kg :o
On the onther hand, fem!Phantasos is underweight and both Pandoras (from TLC and the classic series) are almost underweight too (they are on the frontier between normal weight and underweight) D:
I was using this calculator in case any of you want to try out.

headcanon meme: do ALL of them for Kanon. I can't choose just a few, OK??
1.  What does their bedroom look like?I always envisioned Kanon as a man that doesn’t own many things, least of allown a lot of stuff. I see his bedroom as a very usual one: A big bed (bc he’s abig guy and he likes his feet to be comfy on the bed as well), drawers, wardrobe, a desk, some books, an old player, a TV and that’s that. Even thoughthe room may seem impersonal to anyone who gets in (there will be nothing onthe room shouting ‘Kanon!’ at you, just like his brother’s room), Saga’s room would be significantly neater than Kanon’s.
2.  Do they have any daily rituals? Not really, besides combing his hair and other daily care routines.
3. Do they exercise, and if so, what do they do? How often?Yes, he does everyday, it’s part of his job.
4. What would they do if they needed to make dinner but the kitchen was busy?Kanon only makes dinner on cases of EXTREME necessity. Like, there’s no one else to fix dinner for him. And in the very odd event described above, he’d coax the current occupier to fix something for him as well.
5.  Cleanliness habits (personal, workspace, etc.) Kanon’s not as organized as his brother, that’s a fact, but in his ‘organized mess’ he can find anything he wants. And if you want to get him real mad, you go and move his stuff out of place in order to ‘clean’his room. On his appearance, Kanon likes baths almost just as his brother - which can bea problem if they share a single bathroom in the house (and they do).
6.  Eating habits and sample daily menuThen again, there’s the ‘job’ factor here. On my HC, Saints have an increased metabolism and an enhanced body consumption,so they need to eat much, and well. Also, they need to keep their body in sharp shape, and like most of the Saints Saga and Kanon do eat like bodybuilders on a specific diet of bulking - much protein, not that much carbo,a lot of liquids and so on. And boy, they eat A LOT. I mean, not like Alderaban(the Schwarzenegger of the Saints), but they could easily amaze a current civilian with their daily food intake.
7.  Favorite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting timeAaaand here you have the differences between the Gemini brothers!!! Saga literally HATES wasting time, like any authentic workaholic overachiever. However, Kanon has no problems whatsoever on wasting time doing nothing relevant (or nothing at all, or something plainly wrong or even illegal) with the time he finds to waste. Better yet (or worse yet, it depends on the point of view), Kanon may rejoice on wasting the time he does NOT have to waste. Even more so if that makes people mad.
8.  Favorite indulgence and feelings surrounding indulging Kanon is an indulgence-prone man, and has extreme difficulty on understanding the ‘delayed reward’ concept, and that’s on the core of his recklessness. He likes it good, he likes it now, and he’ll do anything to get what he wants, no matter what. And what’s that what he wants? Anything that can give him the thrill he wants: alcohol, drugs, sex, power, egotrips, you name it.
9.  Makeup? No.
10.  Neuroses? Do they recognize themas such?OOOOOooooo, man, a HELLUVA THEM. I went through this in here and here, but I’ll highlight some things: Kanon has (or used to have) a lot of difficulty on empathizing with people. I mean, he can be (andhe generally is) extremely egocentric, and has some good trouble on considering the weight of his actions on people’s lives. Which takes us to the second big issue of him - accountability. Kanon has (or used to have) some big issues about accepting accountability for his deeds, since he ALWAYS blamed the shit he did on someone else than him.  And at some point of his life Kanon was a friggin’ trouble machine, a true specialist on screwing things up either inadvertedly or just for fun. And that CAN be funny, if you go by Homer Simpson’s famous line “Fault is mine, I’ll put it wherever I want!” So long story short: Yes, Kanon has a LOT of serious issues, and NO, he does NOT recognize the problem on them. Most of the times, he doesn’t even recognize his issues as his own.
11. Intellectual pursuits?Kanon is very intelligent, I’d even say bright, but he’s not one tohave ‘intellectual pursuits’. His intelligence is more like a ‘streetsmart’ one.Say, he’s at college: He’s the guy who’d study and so, but if he needed a grade, he’d put up a rather brilliant strategy… to cheat the test.
12. Favorite book genre? He likes reading alright, but he’s not a bookworm. Also, there’s not a ‘fave book genre’ - it’s more like a story that captures his attention.
13. Sexual Orientation? And, regardless of own orientation, thoughts on sexual orientation in general?Thing is, I also don’t see Kanon wasting his time thinking about ‘sexual orientation’. Say, he’s bi or gay or straight, he won’t mop over that. He’ll just find someone attractive enough and there he goes (and if there’s substance abuse involved, his discretion can fly out through the window).
14. Physical abnormalities?  (Both visible and not, includinginjuries/disabilities, long-term illnesses, food-intolerances, etc.) None. He’s absolutely healthy, even regardless his rather reckless life. Blame it on the cosmo!
15. Biggest and smallest short term goal?Get some of the troubles he got yesterday on someone else’s back. If it’s bigor small, it depends on the trouble he’s running from!
16. Biggest and smallest long term goal? He’d say ‘rule the world’ at a certain point of his life. And he’d work for that, amidst the havoc he can create on his life (and on the people surrounding him as well).
17. Preferred mode of dress and rituals surrounding dressKanon like to keep it simple, except on special occasions.
18. Favorite beverage?Anything with alcohol, the bigger the concentration of it, the better.
19. What do they think about beforefalling asleep at night? There was a time he’d pass out rather than ‘think about shit before falling asleep’, he’d say this is Saga’s thing, not his.
20.  Childhood illnesses? Anyinteresting stories behind them?OOOoookay, there it goes. On my HCs, Saga and Kanon were two univiteline twins orphaned at birth – alabor that took his mother’s life and brought them to the world too early andtoo small, both of them. But it’s rather common between univiteline twins that one is bigger than the other, and the bigger one is born first, gravity will push the heavier head down and accommodate the bigger one into birthing position. That one was Saga, so Kanon was the second to be born, smaller than his brother. Smaller and more disease-prone both on the immediate after-birth and on infancy/childhood, like usual on med literature on those cases. I can envision them both spending months on an NICU (Neonatal IntensiveCare Unit), fighting day after day to complete the development they didn’t have on their mother’s womb, and most of the times the ill one would be Kanon. And, after they got out of the hospital and were sent to an orphanage, both of them would have some trouble with respiratory allergies, asthma and pneumonias –which is usual on children that were prematures and not breastfed.
21.  Turn-ons? Turn-offs?Kanon lusts after power and domination. He can’t quite understand an equal and fair relationship yet.
22. Given a blank piece of paper, apencil, and nothing to do, what would happen? He’d look at them, then look at you and say ‘what the fuck is that’?
23.  How organized are they? Howdoes this organization/disorganization manifest in their everyday life? That’s an issue a bit developed on #5, and on the other topics regarding Kanon’s psychological issues. Fact is, someone as egoistical and egocentric as Kanon can be very disorganized on a myriad of matters/situations, hence he’snever accountable for the negative consequences of his way of life.
24.  Is there one subject of studythat they excel at? Or do they even care about intellectual pursuits at all?Like I said on #11, Kanon is a ‘street-smart’ genius.
25.How do they see themselves 5 yearsfrom today?Kanon can’t consciously plan things this far. Like, he’s not going to sit his ass down and plan ‘how he will be/won’t be in five yrs from now’, but he somewhat envisions he’ll be ‘fantastic’ because he’ll work things out just fine. By ‘work things out’, you may understand he’ll put someone/other people into doing things to work fine for him.
26.  Do they have any plans for the future? Any contingency plans if things don’t work out?Like I said above, Kanon isn’t much of a detailed planner. He can plan things out, and most of his plans *do* work fine because A) He can have good (or awfully bad) ideas and put them into motion with ease due to his sorta lack of morals on doing things his way regardless of other people and B) He is very smart and very savvy, thus he’s an expert on adapting to a hostile environment/situation (and here, again, his lack of morals can show).
27. What is their biggest regret?Kanon is NOT the kind of man who ‘regret things’. He literally said it: He regrets nothing.
28.  Who do they see as their best friend? Their worst enemy? At some point of his life, Saga. And, at other point of his life, Saga.
29. Reaction to sudden extrapersonal disaster (eg The house is on fire! What do they do?)There are two valid options on a scenario like this: A) House’s on fire because of him; and B) If there’s someone who can find a way to take advantageof a burning house, that’s Kanon.
30.  Reaction to sudden intrapersonal disaster (eg close family member suddenly dies)Close family member dies (aka Saga) and Kanon coaxes himself into believing it’sno big deal (but it is, and there’s no way in Hell he’ll give it in). But, after his ‘epiphany’, he’ll blame it ALL on himself.
31. Most prized possession?His wits.
32. Thoughts on material possessions in general?Stuff isn’t what Kanon lusts for, it’s power.
33. Concept of home and family? His concepts of ‘home’ and ‘family’ are quite contradictory, dichotomic I’d say, because they relate to Saga – His brother, his ‘role-model-to-be’, his nemesis, everything he *knew* he should be and he’d never be because he’s not Saga and never will be.
34.  Thoughts on privacy? (Are theya private person, or are they prone to ‘TMI’?)Kanon may seem someone prone to ‘TMI’ a bit too much, but his ‘TMI’ moments arejust ‘noise’. Nothing that will jeopardize his privacy. Actually, most of his issues are so private he’ll not address them even to himself.
35.  What activities do they enjoy, but consider to be a waste of time?Kanon is quite fond of activities he considers to be a ‘waste of time’,actually.
36.  What makes them feel guilty?Guilt is something Kanon has recently been introduced to. On his ‘Seadragon’ days, however, he didn’t feel any guilt whatsoever. And we’re talking about the man who got the Asgard God Warriors dead, his fellow Marine Generals dead, who “fooled”Poseidon and ordered the Nibelungen Ring on Hilda’s fingers.
37.  Are they more analytical or more emotional in their decision-making?Both. But Kanon’s emotions are not a good counselor.
38.  Would they consider themselves a Type A or Type B personality? Type A, but he’ll put the hard work on someone else’s back.
39.  What recharges them when they’re feeling drained?Kanon, when feeling bad, cannot fully recognize why he feels bad. Actually, he feels bad ALL THE TIME, but can’t pinpoint exactly what he’s feeling, or why. So he takes out his frustrations by either denying their very existence, or numbing himself on something to make him feel ‘good’ again. By feeling good, he understands the thrill he feels with powertrips, scamming people, substance abuse, whatever.
40.  Would you say that they have asuperiority-complex? Inferiority-complex? Neither? He unconsciously disguises his massive inferiority complexes into a superiority complex that makes him think of himself as better than anyone else, and entitled to a ‘special treatment’. It’s the very core of his accountability issues.
41.  How misanthropic are they? Kanon despises people, and thinks to deserve better than this petty world (see above). However, he needs to interact with people to make them grant him what he wants.
42.  Hobbies?Scamming people? He’s good at it. Very good.
43.  How far did they get in formaleducation? What are their views on formal education vs self-education?He, as other saints, has nothing like a ‘formal education’.
44.  Religion?Well. This is a complicated one. At the very beginning, Kanon was a cynical non-believer. Like, it’s not that he doesn’t believe. He needed to show off his *despise* for Athena, his brother’s beliefs, the Sanctuary tradition. Of course he would not weigh his words or his blasphemies, so that’s why he’d go far as suggesting his brother to off the Grand Pope, Aiolos, Athena herself. And even after Cape Sounion, if you asked him about any regrets on saying that, he’d see absolutely no problem on what he said, and would blame Saga for betraying *him* (of course he’d not take into account the countless times he’d offended his brother, he’d scammed his brother, he’d put Saga down with words or actions). So that’s no surprise at all he, given the opportunity, would fool a god to get what he wanted. So he planned to take on the world, as much as a plan like that would seem ill-fated and flawed to anyone. But he kept his pile of lies going and going, until he met Athena herself. And he found out that the only being in this world that actually loved him deep enough to forgive his flaws and give him an actual chance to redeem himself was Athena, from the very beginning. That changed EVERYTHING.
45.  Superstitions or views on the occult?Kanon is not the kind of person to believe in the ‘occult’.
46.  Do they express their thoughtsthrough words or deeds? On his path to redemption, he expressed his thoughts through deeds.
47. If they were to fall in love, who(or what) is their ideal?Kanon hasn´t the psychosocial equipment to fully understand and experience ‘love’.
48. How do they express love? That’s the point of #47. Kanon can’t fully understand what Love is about, hence he cannot express it on a rather healthy way. However, he knows a lot about obsession, coercion, mental and sentimental games.
49. If this person were to get into a fist fight, what is their fighting style like?Whatever it takes to win, to the Hell the rules and any moral code.
50. Is this person afraid of dying? Whyor why not? He’s never been afraid of ‘dying’, but he used to be terrified of being held accountable for his errors. That, on his mind, equaled ‘suffering’. However, at the end he *was* able to do it. Saga preferred death.

Twelve Temples 72 //Hades 11
Even if the scene where Ikki throws Shaka’ ashes is not on the original manga. I find it interesting. Shaka brought him back from the dimension they both ended, but it was mostly in Shaka’s fight when Ikki grew. If it were not for that fight Ikki wouldn’t be as fearless and powerful as he became. Shaka made Ikki gone through true despair, made him doubt for the first time he could ever win and broke the over powered image he ha of himself. He made him experience true hell not once but twice, Ikki was the only person Shaka had ever allow to survive and the irony came back making Ikki the only one to defeat him. To use his technique of suppressing senses against him. Ikki remove Shaka’s blindfold to a twisted idea of justice and help him return to his original path.   And these two scenes, the mutual respect, recognising someone as your equal and a gesture of grief over someone who helped him before in more than one way. It is the raise of the phoenix and the fall of Virgo.

About Shaka as a teacher
I know it’s filler, but while playing Galaxy Spirits I remembered I that Shiva's thousand arms technique was like Shaka’s combo in the game. In Galaxy Spirits right before throwing Tenbu Horin, Shaka moves his arms making the illusions of having multiple arms like a Bodhisattva, (this is not the first time a game shows us Shaka doing this, it appeared for first time in a Pachinko short cutscene, I sadly was not able to find that video however) so I thought, Shiva’s technique is able to exists because it's a variation of what Shaka does with his arms.
The filler presents  us this idea of Shaka having disciples, and if Shaka is these guys teacher, it means he probably can perfectly do their techniques as well since he was the one who teaches them. In fact, their techniques are born from Shaka’s own, some just have a different use and Shaka’s are more polished and bigger.

Lets talk about headcanons. Lets talk about Varanasi, Sarnath.
It is a fact that Shaka was born in India and thanks to the Hades Arc, Chapter Sanctuary, episode 9, we have this flashback of Shaka having conversations with Buddha, the Ganges river is mentioned and we have an image of an Statue of standing Lord Buddha. With all this I couldn’t help but to picture the sacred city of Sarnath, located near Varanasi in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Sarnath is one of the four most important places for Buddhism, for it is here where The Buddha gave his first sermon. I guess the part I’m taking an stretch on the headcanon department versus what is canon, is that statue of Budha we saw on the flashback. Sarnath does have a giant statue of Buddha, in fact, it is only here where you can find the tallest statue of an standing Buddha in all of India. Let is be known that, even if it is India where Buddhism was born, you can’t find many Buddhism temples, in fact, Buddhist is one of the smallest religions in India, even smaller than Christianity, the problem is that, while this statue started its construction back in the 70′s, it was not only in 2011 that it was finished and inaugurated, and again, you don’t find many statues like this on India.
The city of Varanasi is algo a great factor to on this, it is considered one of the holiest city and it is as well one of the most populated ones, not only this but Varanasi is as well one of the most ancients cities, not only in India but in the entire world, it is a city of the city of spiritual light at the banks of the Ganges. It is in  Varanasi where you can find the Ghat, a revered funeral place for the Hindus. Despise all these, it is not only Hindus who travel to the Gnashes to be purified or to die. Many Buddhist locals and pilgrims from all over the world, for it was a placed where Budha lived and Buddha himself used the river as a metaphor for many lessons. When he wanted to give the idea of an incalculable amount of something he would say that it was as numerous as the grains of sand in the Ganges, when he wanted to emphasize the effectiveness of his teachings for attaining nirvana he used the inevitable, unstoppable eastward flow of the Ganges to illustrate this idea.  When the Buddha left Patna during his last journey, he had to cross the Ganges in order to get to Vesàli, and so, many pilgrims cross the river like he did.
Last but not least, let it be clear I am not an expert on either Indian or Buddhism.  If you want to add up anything or correct me you are free to do so. Also, I apologize if it came across more of a lesson of history and religion rather than a headcanon.

Did I heard someone asking for advice about the Specters naming scheme? ┴┬┴┤( ͡° ͜ʖ├┬┴┬ @teary-eyed-circle-of-friendship
I think I can help you a bit, or at least tell you how I did it.
First of all, the 108 masei are inspired in a traditional Chinese novel, and as you know, divided into Celestial/Heavenly stars and Earthly stars. The first group has a total of 36 stars and the second one a total of 72 stars. In Saint Seiya (classic and TLC) there are 21 Specters with a Heavenly Star and 14 with a Earthly Star (and even some of them weren’t named at all and Kurumada didn’t assign them a specific star).
Here’s a list with all the stars.
Secondly, when choosing a Star, I tried to chose one that could define Seika, for example, the Guardian star because she always took care/protected Seiya when they were kids.
I am afraid I am not sure what’s the difference between the Heavenly stars and the Earthly ones, since Kurumuda showed both strong and weak Specters in each group. It’s seems more like a fancy title than an actual rank. So you just have to choose a star and make sure Kurumada or Teshirogi didn’t use it already.
As for the animal, you are right. The Surplices seem to be named after all kind of myhtological creatures from various cultures, and choosing the Kelpie as Jabu’s Surplice it’s really awesome! It totally fits him!

OK, ok, someone please explain this to me.
We have the pairing RhadaKanon, because Rhadamanthys and Kanon fought against each other and... well, Kanon fought without his Cloth etc etc (Foe Yay ensues)... And there are LOTS of fics and fanarts of this pairing.
And I want to know, WHERE THE HECK ARE THE PHANTASOSxEL CID FICS? I am not even asking about fanarts but, seriously? We have a villain downright flirting with a Gold Saint and nobody ever thought about writing a fic about this pairing???? 。゚・ (>﹏<) ・゚。
*cries eternally*

Tags for my SS animal versions
-English- (En español más abajo)
Until now I used the following tags; #goldiemals (proposed by crappycornus ^^), #animal!Goldies or #animal!Gold saints to tag all my fanarts related to my animal versions of Saint Seiya. The problem is, yes, you guessed it, these tags were all about the Gold Saints, so whenever I submited a pic featuring the Bronze Saints or the God Warriors.... the tags weren’t very accurate.
That’s why, from now on, I will be using #SSanimalverse and #Sanimal Seiya to tag ALL my drawings of SS’s characters as animals, whether if it features Bronzes, Marinas or Specters from whichever spin-off.
Finally, I would like to invite all Saint Seiya fans that have drawn the characters as animals, to use the tags #SSanimalverse and #Sanimal Seiya if you wish, so we can arrange this kind of fanworks \^o^/

On Saga, Kanon, personality disorders and codependency - some cracked up (and adult) headcanons:
- I totally see Kanon as a classic counterdependent (and rather narcissistic prick) that does nasty shit with the sole purpose of pissing other people off - like, Saga. Why? Because it works every time. Also, the secrecy over his identity among other saints gave him much more free time and much little things to do: Kanon was a bored troublemaker.
- That said, I can totally see Kanon as an addict, or at least as someone with a extensive story of heavy substance abuse. Like getting drunk or high to get his brother into trouble, then getting drunk/high became a reason on its own. And, as Seadragon, I see Kanon being a classic narcissist (from narcissistic personality disorder) out of lots drugs and alcohol (which don’t harm his body due to cosmoenergy - he’s not a gold saint for nothing). Like most addicts, he holds accountability on absolutely nothing he does to people, or to himself - it’s always someone/something else’s fault. Hence, his life is a havoc and he creates havoc on other people’s lives, and he’s quick to blame that havoc on anything but him. That, sure, makes him hate: He doesn’t think he deserves the shit he’s neck-deep in, but since he totally fails to understand where the chaos come from, he can’t do shit to make things actually better. Usually, he makes shit usually much worse.
- I totally see Saga as a classic heavy codependent, though: Lacks self-esteem, is highly dependant on other people’s opinion of himself, needs outer validation more than the air he breathes. And takes the responsibility of keeping his troublesome brother under his control to the core. Which fails miserably - each and every time Saga tries to make Kanon ‘behave’, all he ends up doing is triggering Kanon to behave even worse than before.
- Like all codependents, Saga has a poor boundary function: he can’t effectively say ‘no’ and is used to negotiate with his personal limits to feel loved and accepted. “If I do that for you, you will love me”; and when people abuse him emotionally (like Kanon does) he feels ‘cheated’, frustrated and angry. Because of that, he created a vast repertoire of concealing, sublimating, shrugging off anger. Good boys don’t feel angry, so does not Saga. However, there *is* that burning frustration he feels time and again; when Aiolos bests him, when Kanon misbehaves, when Kanon dumps his troubles onto him, when his training gets way too heavy. Then Saga bounces between suppressing the whole shit inside or letting it all out in a explosion of entitled anger. Like, ‘after all I’ve done that’s the shit I have’ and so on.
- Like many codependents, Saga can be manipulative as fuck. He’s no stranger to the ‘Drama-Triangle’ Savior/Persecutor/Victim, and he *can* use his good behavior to get people to do what he want. If it doesn’t work (and it often doesn’t), his docility may turn to covert manipulation, overt manipulation and even threats of emotional/physical violence; it depends on how ‘serious’ he perceives your misconduct to be.
- Kanon is also no stranger to that ‘drama-triangle’, and usually will antagonize his brother on the roles they play on this ‘mind-game’. If Saga’s the saviour, he’s the victim; if Saga’s the victim, he’s the persecutor, if Saga’s the persecutor, maybe he’ll persecute back. However, he counts on Saga to get him out of the trouble he creates, and also will blame Saga for ‘making him create’ said problems.
- Saga locks Kanon in Cape Sounion out of anger, and desperation. Like a last attempt to make his brother ‘behave’, when everything else had failed. He’d rather see his brother dead than utterly and completely lost to his evil, that I can get. But easier said than done: Just as much Kanon blamed Saga for all things gone wrong in his life, Saga also blamed Kanon for all the shit he endured and felt for years. So Kanon would not only be Saga’s personal troublemaker, he was mainly his escape valve to push out his anger in furious gushes that culminated on Saga’s attempted fratricide. When that escape valve was gone, the anger wasn’t, and it started to build up. When it comes out... It comes out almost like an entity on its own: Evil Saga.
- How Kanon redeems himself: If he’s an addict, he *can* repent when he’s sober or clean, or between recurrences. So I assume that after Poseidon Arc, he would have the ways and the motivation to get, at least, momentarily clean. That’s why, also, he was hellbent on finishing his mission on the Hades Arc: He had a debt to pay, and he was afraid to survive. If he did, he would have to live with the consequences of his acts, and face the everyday struggle to stay clean.

L’Étranger (On Camus - Some parallels between the Classic series and SoG)
Okay then, I am, again, a bit late on the whole SoG!Camus bandwagon, but I wanted to see it to the very end and then, only then, put out my impressions on that.
Tumblr media
There WILL be spoilers ahead, so proceed with caution.
- Camus, Milo and Eikþyrnir Surtr:
The Stseiya fandom (and the Camus/Milo shippers) have been, understandably so, revolving around Camus reactions about Milo and Surtr. Many will say ‘This is all wrong’ because Camus seemed to not give a shit about Milo, and teamed up with the enemy to aid his old friend Surtr, whose sister died due to a snowslide caused by him in his youth. The thing is, how come Camus is said to be the best friend of Milo and then just bond to Surtr and, worse yet, help him to injure his said best friend? Wouldn’t it be an incongruence with the classic series?
I think not.
Now, on the long run, I even think the SoG writers had a rather interesting take on Camus’ feelings and how those feelings shape his decisions as well.
My point is, Camus is *not* as aloof and emotionally detached as he wanted to be. He surely *wants* so bad not to care, but fact is he does. He feels too much. He would like not to, because feeling that much would compromise his judgement, so he tries not to feel, he thinks those feelings will make him weaker, vulnerable. In a conscious choice, he doesn’t let them out like, say, Milo, and here I can see *why* Camus would bond with Milo and make the impulsive and emotionally transparent boy as his best friend - he somewhat envies his ability to unleash his emotions out when he, himself, cannot help but trap them in.
Once inside, those feelings don’t disappear, much the other way around - they ultimately shape his most important decisions, for the good and for the bad. And which feeling is more powerful (and torturing) than guilt?
It was guilt who drove Camus to his old friend Surtr, whose ability to adequately feel seems to have died along with his sister. Ironically, a distorted version of what Camus could be, had he actually succeeded on his attempt to not to feel at all.
- Camus and Shura:
Behind the action scene, maybe the most emotional of the SoG fights we had to this day. Shura fought Camus and knew he was going to die while forsaking his personal defense to attack the Statue, but at the end Shura could understand Camus.
He is/was also someone plagued by guilt, and he could understand how strong such a bond could be. Surtr wouldn’t understand it, since it was beyond his current emotional abilities, but Shura would, and did. How torturing would it be, to see Surtr show plainly how irrevocably scarred he was, if you knew you were the one to blame?
That’s why Camus also took it to himself - end his quarrel, pay his debt.
That’s why he held hands with the enemy, a cold-blood assassin, and said he knew.
And why didn’t he do it to Milo?
Because Milo never asked him anything, he owed him nothing. Milo would never bond himself to Camus through guilt. He died because he chose it, that was how Milo worked. Emotion would drive his actions, emotions would get him dead.
