You absolutely adored your girlfriend. A little too much, according to your friends. They'd constantly tease you whenever they caught you staring at her or holding her hand, but that never stopped you from doing those things. It wasn't your fault that she was amazing in every single way and you wanted her to know it. Even when you two were doing pretty much nothing, just sitting on the tiled floor with each other, the sound of the fan blowing filling the room, you couldn't help but just think of her, how amazing she was.

"Y/N what are you doing?"

"Huh?" you hummed, realising you had gotten lost in thought.

You couldn't see her face, but you could tell she was smiling when she spoke, "I asked what you were doing. Cause it definitely doesn't feel like you're braiding my hair."

Your eyes trailed down to the knotted mess of red hair in front of you, eyes widening in shock, your chest tightening with guilt, "Oh shit Max, I broke your hair."

She laughed, immediately making the guilt you felt fade into nothingness, "I doubt that." she spun around to face you, pulling her hair over her shoulder to inspect it. "Hand me that brush."

You handed her the hairbrush you would've used if you were actually paying attention, and watched as she brushed out the knots in her hair.

"How'd you even get it this bad?" she asked, smiling so you knew she wasn't mad.

You shrugged, "I was thinking and got distracted."

"What were you thinking about?" she asked.

"You'll make fun of me." you said, feeling your cheeks heat up.

"When has that ever stopped you before?"

"I was thinking about you. Cause you're really pretty and shit." you mumbled, rolling your eyes at the sound of her laugh.

"You're such a fucking dork." she said, shaking her head with a smile.

"That was established many years ago."

She shrugged, before placing the brush in your hand and jabbing her finger at your chest, "Use it this time. And don't get distracted."

You smiled, "No promises."

With a smile, she gave you a quick kiss on the cheek before spinning back around for you to re-braid her hair.

If your cheeks weren't burning before they definitely were now.

You and Max probably met through Eleven. You had escaped Hawkins Lab a little earlier than Eleven did and she quickly found you and introduced you to her friends.

Max immediately thought you were so cool. You had powers, like El did, and could even play the guitar.

She would totally teach you how to skateboard, telling you how cool it would be if you could skate and play guitar.

She becomes really protective over you, especially during the bad times in Hawkins. She knows how dangerous it can be for you and El, so she’s really determined to keep you safe.

Max would love to just lay in bed with you and read comic books or something. It’s really soothing for her and she loves to just be able to relax with you.

She’ll read aloud to you as she lays on your chest. She really likes when you play with her hair, as well.

She loves to listen to you play guitar, especially when she’s upset or overwhelmed.

When you’re feeling anxious about the lab, she’ll remind you that nobody is ever going to hurt you again as long as she’s around.

God forbid Dr. Brenner ever meets Max Mayfield because she’ll beat his ass.

She likes to hear stories from the lab, but only the ones you’re comfortable telling. She likes to hear about the friendly nurses and orderlies and the friends you made while you were there.

She loves complimenting you, especially because she feels like nobody really ever showed you a lot of love in the lab.

She’s not a very affectionate person but she tries really hard to become one because she just wants to show you so much love that you’ve been missing out on.

She’ll also show you all the things you’ve missed out on. Whether it’s tv shows, movies, music, etc. She keeps you up to date with everything pop culture.

She loves having movie nights with you !! She makes sure that you get to watch all the classic movies.

She just adores you so much and she really wants to protect you and show you so much love !!

…She finds him again in front of a candy display, singing to himself as always, apparently debating the merits of Red Vines versus Twizzlers. When he notices her he grins and starts singing to her, flourishing the package of Twizzlers as an imaginary microphone. So don't you ever be ashamed, when you're only lonely… And oh you can call out my name... when you're only lonely...

Max feels herself blushing a little; those lyrics are a bit too on the nose today. “You’re such a nerd. How the hell do you know every single song that’s been on?”

“Uh, hello? You can thank your best friend for that.” She giggles at his fake sarcasm. “El and Hopper love all this corny shit, and when my little Ella-bella wants me to play something for her, I play it. It gets stuck in my head.” Unexpectedly he grabs her hand and twirls her, as if they’re doing a fancy waltz. No, there's nothing wrong with you… Darling, I get lonely, too… He crescendoes up to hit the high note perfectly, and an older woman behind them smiles.

“You’re adorable,” the woman says fondly. “I wish my son and daughter got along as well as you two.” She beams at them, and Eddie grins back. “Yeah, my sister’s pretty awesome,” he tells her, pride and admiration in his voice. “She hates my taste in music, though. Can’t imagine why.” The woman bursts out laughing, Max laughing right along with her. Eddie simply resumes picking out candy, as if he hasn’t done anything out of the ordinary.
